We start the approximately 6-hour northern tour with a visit to the Monumento al Campesino, the work of César Manrique and a tribute to the work in the fields of the people of Lanzarote. The volcanic nature of Lanzarote, always present in the works of César Manrique, can be discovered in all its splendor during a visit to the Cueva de los Verdes, the longest lava tunnel in the world. This work by César Manrique gives the feeling of entering the interior of Mother Earth, leaving unique and unforgettable impressions on all who enter the cave. The curious thing about this tunnel is its natural origin, the result of lava (eruptions of the Corona volcano). Leaving the great jameo, we enter a space where we can admire a long crystal clear pool surrounded by palm trees and cacti that offer us an impressive image to photograph. Just behind it is the auditorium: a magical place where concerts and performances take place.

Lanzarote round trip in the north of the island

At the north tour in Lanzarote, you will first visit the monument " Monumento al Campesino " in the heart of Lanzarote. This monument in the municipality of San Bartolomé was created in honor of the stricken farm workers in Lanzarote and is a tribute to the hard working farmers. It is a sculpture made of white blocks representing different forms, which looks particularly beautiful in connection with the beautiful natural surroundings. After visiting the Monumento, we head to the north of Lanzarote: to the Cueva de los Verdes and the Jameos del Agua. We will visit the Cueva de los Verdes: the longest lava tube in the world, where we will discover the volcanic nature that has always been present in the works of César Manrique. This work of César Manrique gives the feeling of entering the bowels of Mother Earth, leaving a unique and unforgettable impression. A peculiarity of this tunnel is its natural origin, the result of lava flows created during the eruption of the Corona volcano.

Our next visit is to the Jameos del Agua, the first work of César Manrique, which inspired the Lanzarote-born artist to create much of his later work on the island. Jameos del Agua* is a unique enclave in the world after the lava of the Corona volcano caused the roof of the volcanic tube to collapse. The tunnel is 6 km long, of which at least 1.5 km run under the Atlantic Ocean, as it is close to the sea. Upon entering, you will be greeted by a small jameo with large ferns. This unique jameo has a charming cafeteria that blends in with the surroundings.  In Jameos del Agua there is an endemic crab (Munidopsis Polimorpha), characterized by being blind and albino, measuring less than 1 cm.

Great tour! Really fantastic tour to learn about Cesar Manrique and the impact he had on the island. Roland, our guide, and Charlie, our driver, were a fantastic team. Especially Roland, who was a wealth of information and seemed to always have something interesting to say wherever we were on the route. His language skills were most impressive and his sense of humour kept us smiling throughout. The tour felt planned out to perfection, with an excellent amout of time at each stop; we never felt rushed nor did we feel bored.

Departures from Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero, Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife and Costa Teguise towards Teguise , old capital of the island, where we will have a brief stop.

We will continue to Guatiza having a look to the prickly pears plantations where the the cochineal used as natural dye was cultivated. It inspired the last land art work of the famous artist César Manrique, the Cactus Garden. This garden is impressive for its originality and for the thousands of cacti and succulent plants from all over the world that it houses inside. During the trip we will also stop at the Aloe Vera Museum.

From there we will go to the Cueva de los Verdes* a cave of undoubted beauty that includes an indescribable and totally different landscape, formed by volcanic eruptions. We will have lunch in Haría, where we can enjoy a wonderful view of a beautiful palm grove, known as “The Valley of a Thousand Palms”. S top for lunch in Haría. From there, we approach Tahiche, to visit the César Manrique Foundation** , which was the original home of the great artist from Lanzarote built on five volcanic bubbles, and that today, houses the foundation that bears his name and houses different temporary exhibitions inside and where you can also admire his work.

Return to the picking-up points between 16.00 and 18.00 depending of the tourist resort.
