- WestJet Vacations: Attraction Tickets & Unique Itineraries
Summary: WestJet dollars (WJD) can be redeemed for WestJet Vacation packages, which bundle WestJet flights and hotels (from a variety of brands). Meal plans are included for some destinations (all-inclusive). The cost of vacation packages in WJD is consistently lower than the dollar cost of booking the same flight and hotel separately. To book, you can either book online, call WestJet, or via your travel agent.
An interesting realization came to me as I was recently contemplating how to spend the hoards of WestJet dollars (WJD) I’d accumulated in my WestJet Rewards account over the past years. Numerous times upon looking at WestJet’s website I’ve seen adverts for vacation packages, but for some reason, I’d never stopped to think: “I wonder if one can use WestJet dollars to pay for vacation packages”?
As it turns out, I found the answer to my question buried at the bottom of the FAQ page for WestJet Dollars:
This was an exciting realization for me (albeit maybe obvious for other experienced WestJet fans). So in this post I’ll try to cover everything I’ve learned about WestJet Vacations and WJD since. Importantly it was worth considering whether these vacation packages actually offer decent value, along with the logistics of making a booking, which is not as straightforward as using WJD for flights.
What are WestJet Vacations?
WestJet Vacations is a travel agency-like subsidiary of WestJet that offers packages for WestJet flights with hotel partners to offer a ‘packaged vacation’. It’s similar to the concept of an all-inclusive vacation, although not all WestJet vacation packages are all-inclusive (in fact most are just flight+hotel packages).
The nice thing about these vacation packages is that they offer flexibility. This is not something I would have imagined in an all inclusive type package. But in fact, going through the booking process you are able to select from a variety of hotel options and customize your flight itinerary quite extensively as well.
How to Book a Vacation Package using WJD: Three Avenues
Recently, WestJet enabled the ability to redeem WJD for vacation packages when making an online booking. This is a positive change since previously it was required that rewards members either call the WestJet Vacations team or go through their travel agent to book.
However, if you would rather still talk to someone when you make your booking, the other two options are still available. You can contact the WestJet Vacations team by phone at 1-877-737-7001 for assistance in building and booking your vacation package.
I went through making a booking myself using this line recently and noted that it was a fairly straightforward process. Everything I could see online was able to be booked over the phone and I fed them the dates and information.
There is also another way to redeem WJD for vacations: through a travel agent.
Searching for WestJet Vacation Packages
There are two ways to browse for vacation packages. The first is using the default ‘vacation’ search, which is very similar to searching for flights.
You must input your exact Departure and Destination cities, along with exact Depart and Return dates. This isn’t the best because it makes it somewhat challenging to compare how much choosing a different date affects the price, without going through the whole search process again using multiple browser tabs.
One little trick if you know a little about ‘http’ protocol: you can actually generate additional searches much faster by copying the URL of a search result and modifying the URL parameters (these are variables that appear after the ‘?’ in the URL. Let me demonstrate.
Let’s say I’ve just searched for Hawaii for the dates January 3 – January 10. The URL for this search appears as:
https://vacationbookings.westjet.com/cgi-bin/resultspackage-plus.cgi?sid=c3607ed6df6c890c829c7eec184211c8&gateway_dep=YEG&child_1_age=&CA_PreviousDomain=&occupancy=S&price_max=& date_dep=20210103 &isMobile=false&rooms=1&track_link=&child_3_age=&child_2_age=&sv_query=1&star=& date_ret=20210110 &language=en&no_hotel=&Engines=S&nb_adult=1&dest_dep=Honolulu%2C+Oahuxxx79&code_ag=wes&child_4_age=&searchtype=PA&child_5_age=&nb_child=0&alias=wes&first_result=
You can see the two bolded variables, ‘date_dep’ and ‘date_ret’. Obviously, these are the Departure and Return dates. So let’s say I want to see how departing on Monday instead of Sunday will affect pricing. I can quickly replace the date_dep=20210103 and date_ret=20210110 to date_dep=20210104 and date_ret=20210111, respectively.
Anyways, if this is too much of an inconvenience, you can also use the other search method: ‘Vacation Finder’:
This allows you to be a bit vaguer with your search, you can instead specify broader destinations like ‘Beach escape’, Caribbean, or Mexico. You can also leave the duration blank or specify 3-5, 5-10, or 10-14 day durations.
I personally don’t find the Vacation Finder as useful to search. I generally know which return date I have in mind and am more flexible on departure. Although pricing is still a little trickier here because longer durations will necessarily be more expensive which isn’t the case with booking flights.
WestJet Vacation Package Pricing: Is it Fair?
To answer this question, I did a series of ‘trials’ using the following methodology:
- Create a package with a given flight and hotel combination on WestJetVacations.com
- Lookup flight price separately on WestJet.com (including taxes) – subtract from WJV total price to get ~ hotel price.
- Aggregator website: Trivago.ca –> Hotels.com
- Hotel’s website directly
Here, we’re basically trying to determine what is the average price markup by WestJet vacations. I chose to do three trials with different hotel chains for three destinations: Hawaii (HNL), Los Cabos (SJD), and Disneyland Resort (SNA/MCO). All searches were done with 1 adult, 1 room, except for Disney searches which were 2 adults, 1 room.
Hawaii (HNL) (via YEG)
Departure Date: January 4, 2020; Return Date: January 10, 2020
Hotel Check-in date: Tue. Jan. 05, 2021 ; Hotel Check-out date: Sun. Jan. 10, 2021
Individual Flights Costs (searched Nov. 30, 2020):
Hotel Costs (searched Nov. 30, 2020):
Los Cabos (SJD) (via YVR)
Departure Date: February 12, 2021; Return Date: February 20, 2021
Hotel Check-in date: Fri. Feb. 12, 2021; Hotel Check-out date: Sat. Feb. 20, 2021
Flights and Costs (searched Dec. 2, 2020):
Hotel Costs (searched Dec. 2, 2020):
Disneyland Resort Vacations (SNA and MCO via YEG)
For this search, I used the ‘Vacation Finder’ searching ‘Disney vacations’. I also searched using 2 adults, and 1 room.
Departure Date: June 7, 2021; Return Date: June 12, 2021
Hotel Check-in date: Mon. June. 7, 2021; Hotel Check-out date: Sat. June. 12, 2021
Costs (searched Dec. 3, 2020):
It also looks like you can book your Disneyland/Resort tickets through WestJet Vacations as part of the package. If this intrigues you, we cover how to use WestJet dollars for attraction costs and unique itineraries in our next article of this series.
The Verdict?
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised to see that WestJet Vacations actually offer quite good value within the rewards program. Consistently across all my searches, the total price of these packages works out to mild-to-moderate cost-savings, when compared to booking the flights and hotels separately, including via the hotel’s website directly or third-party booking sites.
Related: How to Get Free WiFi on WestJet Flights
There are several assumptions at play. For one, I’m assuming you’ll be flying with WestJet. For certain destinations, you might find cheaper flights with other airlines. Furthermore, I’m not considering other savings you could get on your WestJet flights by applying a WestJet companion voucher if you’re flying with two people. For example, the Disneyland Resort (SNA) search shows you’d likely pay a lower total dollar cost by booking the flights with a companion fare and paying cash for the hotel.
Regardless, I’m confident in saying that you aren’t getting a bad deal by booking a WestJet Vacation using your WestJet dollars. At this point, I see no need to reserve the use of WestJet dollars solely for flights, and I’ll definitely be using mine going forward for both, especially when I’m traveling solo. This applies doubly for those of you who’ve figured out some of the crafty ways to earn large sums of WJD 🙂
Frequently Asked Questions
Travel Bank credits cannot be used to pay for WestJet Vacation packages.
No, you cannot use WestJet dollars to pay for taxes and fees on a WestJet Vacation package booking.
The WestJet Companion Voucher can only be used towards flights; it can’t be used towards a WestJet Vacations package booking.
That’s your call. You’ll pay the same price regardless.
WestJet Vacations flights are a special fare class called ‘Z’. It’s really a hybrid but you can think of it like economy class. If you have a specific question about cancelation, extras, checked baggage, etc, it is best to ask an agent. Cancellation policies for WJ vacations generally apply to the entire package, which is why the flight class isn’t really relevant.
Yes, you can upgrade your fare to Premium or Business.
Yes, you can.

I am a travel agent and on hold with WJV…pax wants to pay for a last minute trip with their dollars… they leave this Feb. 19 for Aruba on what they want booked…. i am on my Transat distribution agent phone number for WJV. I am afraid of the space selling out. (is it possible to confirm the package with a cheque number, while i am on hold?) and then change the FOP to their westjet dollars? Please advise Michelle Hunt Transat Travel London Ont. (519-542-3424 EXT 671227)
Thank you Reed! You answered my question after spending a ton of time on the WJ site and on hold.
I wish there was an option to do this online.

WestJet Rewards Elite Tiers: Guide to Qualifying and Privileges
WestJet Rewards is the loyalty program of Canada’s second-largest carrier. Part of the program are its elite status tiers, which allow its most loyal members to advance progressively and enjoy the associated privileges at each tier.
In This Post
How to qualify for westjet rewards elite tiers, westjet rewards tier benefits, milestone awards.
As a revenue-based status program, WestJet Rewards bases elite tier qualification solely on how much you spend on WestJet-marketed flights and vacation packages.
For WestJet-marketed flights, 100% of the base fare counts towards tier qualification. WestJet-marketed flights include codeshare flights operated by partner airlines with a WS flight code.
If another airline, such as Delta, issues your ticket, despite the flights being operated by WestJet, it won’t count towards tier qualification.
Also, Basic fares, Member Exclusive Fares, contracted fares, tour operator fares, and tickets paid for with WestJet Dollars are excluded from tier qualification.
Keep in mind that the base fare eligible for tier qualification excludes taxes, fees, and charges. In the fare breakdown, this is anything aside from the base fare.
It’s worth noting that many discounted tickets base fares that are lower than the cost of “Other Air Transportation Charges (ATC)”, so those tickets would count less towards tier qualification than, say, a premium cabin fare.
Meanwhile, for WestJet Vacations packages, 20% of the base package price counts towards tier qualification. WestJet divides the cost of a package into “flights and hotel” and “taxes and fees” , so only 20% of the former counts towards tier qualification.
Furthermore, you’ll only be awarded 20% of the proportionate share of the base package price, if there’s more than one passenger on the booking.
Status Lift
Status Lift accelerates your tier qualification by contributing up to $1,500 (all figures in CAD) towards your qualifying spend. To be eligible, you must hold the WestJet RBC ® World Elite Mastercard .
- Earn 250 WestJet dollars upon making your first purchase†
- Plus, earn 200 WestJet dollars upon spending $5,000 in the first three months†
- Plus, receive an annual companion voucher for discounted travel on WestJet flights, with a co-pay starting at $119 plus taxes and fees†
- Minimum income: $80,000 personal or $150,000 household
- Annual fee: $119
How Status Lift works is that you’ll receive $500 in WestJet Rewards tier qualifying spend for every $15,000 in eligible expenses charged to your WestJet RBC ® World Elite Mastercard.
You may earn up to three Status Lifts per calendar year. In other words, you may receive up to $1,500 in qualifying spend if you charge $45,000 or more to your card. This would get you halfway towards the lowest tier, Silver, without ever having set foot in a plane.
Tier Requirements
There are four tiers under WestJet Rewards: Teal, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
All members start at the Teal tier. To advance to the higher tiers, you must satisfy the following annual spending requirement in a qualifying year:
- Silver: $3,000–4,999
- Gold: $5,000–7,999
- Platinum: $8,000+
For example, to qualify for the Gold tier, your tier qualifying spend must be between $5,000 and $7,999 from January 1 to December 31, since WestJet defines a “qualifying year” as a calendar year.
Once you advance to the next tier, you’ll stay on that tier for the remainder of the calendar year and the succeeding calendar year. For clarity, this means if you reach Platinum by, say, August 25, 2024, you’ll hold Platinum for the remainder of 2024 and through to the end of 2025.
Once you’ve satisfied the spending required for the one of the elite tiers, it’s time to enjoy its associated privileges, which we’ll detail below.
General Benefits for Elite Tier Members
There are general benefits applicable to all WestJet Rewards elite tier members, though elite members may receive them at varying degrees, depending on their tier.
Upgrades: As a higher-tier member, you may receive complimentary upgrades at the gate, when available.
You may receive upgrades from Economy to Premium, or from Premium to Business Class, except when flying on Basic and Member Exclusive Fares.
Complimentary upgrades at the gate from Economy to Premium aren’t available on flights to or from Europe and Asia, and gate upgrades from Premium to Business Class are only available for domestic flights.
You may also receive complimentary upgrades from Economy to Premium prior to check-in, excluding flights to/from Europe and Asia.
With these upgrades, members are prioritized by tier, meaning you’ll have a better chance as a Platinum member than a Gold member. In addition, you, as the elite member, must be the only one on the ticket; you won’t qualify if someone else is listed on the same ticket.
To be eligible for an upgrade, make sure to attach your WestJet Rewards ID to your booking. Furthermore, if you want to be considered for a last-minute gate upgrade, you must check-in at least 75 minutes before the flight.
Advance seat selection vouchers: You may use advanced seat selection vouchers to select seats that you’d otherwise be charged for. However, you may not use them to upgrade to a higher cabin.
One voucher is valid per one-way bound, including connections, so if you’re travelling round-trip, you need two vouchers. You may use the vouchers for yourself and/or your guests.
Note that seat selection vouchers must be used prior to check-in.
Member lounge vouchers: You may use lounge vouchers only for yourself, as the elite member, and they’re valid throughout your qualifying year and the following qualifying year.
Access with these vouchers isn’t limited to the Elevation Lounge in Calgary. You may use them on partner lounges, including the Air France Lounge in Montreal and the Plaza Premium Lounge in London.
A full list of partner lounges can be found on the WestJet website .
Guest lounge vouchers: You’ll also receive a smaller number of vouchers that your guests can use to access WestJet’s partner lounges.
Free checked bags: You’ll receive free checked bags weighing up to 23kg or 50lbs. The number of free bags depends on your tier, which we’ll explore below.
The free checked bags apply to the elite member, as well as up to eight other passengers travelling on the same reservation, regardless of tier.
You must be travelling on an itinerary with flights marketed and operated by WestJet. The free baggage allowance doesn’t apply to codeshare flights.
Priority boarding: As an elite member, you’ll get to board with premium cabin customers, even if you’re flying economy. Your priority boarding zone depends on your tier.
Priority handling: Priority check-in applies to the three higher elite tiers, while priority security screening, baggage, and support hotlines are applicable to Gold and Platinum members only.
No fee for same-day flight changes: As a Gold or Platinum member, you may change your flight for an earlier or later departure on the same calendar day for free, except when travelling on a Basic fare.
To change your flight, you must do so starting 24 hours before your scheduled departure. The new flight must have the same origin and destination, and the change will only apply if there are available seats in the same cabin on the flight of your choice.
Early access to purchase an upgrade: Gold and Platinum members may purchase an upgrade to premium or business 24–48 hours prior to departure, except when flying on a Basic ticket.
Upgrades may be purchased for the elite member and up to 8 passengers travelling on the same reservation, subject to availability. Regular upgrade fees apply.
Let’s now summarize the privileges of each elite tier. Silver, the first among the three elite tiers, is achieved upon reaching $3,000 in tier-qualifying spend – up to half of which can be achieved with Status Lift. It comes with the following benefits:
- Eligible for complimentary upgrades prior to check-in
- Eligible for complimentary upgrades at the gate
- Two free checked bags of 23kg/50lbs each
- Four advanced seat selection vouchers
- Four airport lounge access vouchers
- Two guest airport lounge access vouchers
- Zone 2 priority boarding
- Priority check-in
In addition to the benefits above, the Silver tier earns WestJet Dollars as follows:
- 3% in WestJet Dollars on WestJet flights
- 1% in WestJet Dollars on WestJet Vacations packages
- 1% in WestJet Dollars on car rentals, hotel stays, meal plans, attractions, and transfers booked through WestJet Vacations
Gold is achieved upon reaching $5,000 in tier-qualifying spend, and it comes with the following benefits:
- Higher priority for complimentary upgrades prior to check-in
- Higher priority for complimentary upgrades at the gate
- Six advanced seat selection vouchers
- Unlimited airport lounge access for member and immediate family
- Zone 1 priority boarding
- Priority check-in, baggage, security screening, and support hotline
- No fee for same-day flight changes
- Early access to purchase an upgrade
In addition to the benefits above, the Gold tier earns WestJet Dollars as follows:
- 5% in WestJet Dollars on WestJet flights
- 1.5% in WestJet Dollars on WestJet Vacations packages
Platinum, the highest elite tier, is achieved upon reaching $8,000 in tier-qualifying spend, and it comes with the following benefits:
- Highest priority for complimentary upgrades prior to check-in
- Highest priority for complimentary upgrades at the gate
- Three free checked bags of 23kg/50lbs each
- Unlimited advanced seat selection plus six vouchers for guests
In addition to the benefits above, the Platinum tier earns WestJet Dollars as follows:
- 8% in WestJet Dollars on WestJet flights
- 2% in WestJet Dollars on WestJet Vacations packages
Elite Tier Benefits on Delta Air Lines
Since 2021, WestJet Rewards and Delta SkyMiles Medallion Elite members have enjoyed reciprocal privileges on both airlines.
Through the partnership, WestJet Rewards members may earn and redeem WestJet Dollars on Delta flights, and elite members may also expect the following perks when flying with Delta:
Note that Delta Sky Club access only applies when flying on an itinerary involving a US/Canada transborder flight operated by WestJet or Delta. Itineraries wholly within the US don’t qualify.
To receive benefits with Delta, make sure to attach your WestJet Rewards ID to your booking.
In addition to the WestJet Dollars and privileges you’ll receive as an elite member, you’ll also be given Milestone Awards upon reaching qualifying spend thresholds.
Milestone qualifying spend is tracked separately from tier qualifying spend, but what counts under both categories is the same:
- 100% of the base fare for WestJet-marketed flights
- 20% of the base package price for WestJet Vacations
You’ll receive Milestone Awards as follows:
WestJet Companion Vouchers are used such that the second passenger on the same reservation pays only taxes, fees, and Other ATC (air transportation charges), making their base fare effectively free.
On the other hand, Gift of Gold vouchers may be used by a guest, so that they’ll receive Gold tier perks on their next round-trip flight, even if they’re not travelling with you.
The top status tiers under WestJet Rewards incentivize the airline’s most loyal customers with a range of benefits, as well as accelerated WestJet Dollars earning rates.
To qualify for a higher tier, you must meet qualifying spend requirements.
To help you reach those thresholds, you may take advantage of Status Lift, a benefit exclusive to holders of the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard.
The card also comes with a range of other meaningful benefits for WestJet travellers, including an annual companion voucher, so it’s a must-have for any frequent WestJet flyer.
Top-tier privileges include upgrade eligibility, free bags, and priority handling. In addition, higher-tier members receive benefits when flying with Delta Air Lines, such as free bags and Sky Club access.
Aside from these privileges, higher-tier members also receive Milestone Awards upon reaching certain spend thresholds. Among the perks you may receive are companion vouchers and gifting of Gold status to a guest for them to use on a round-trip flight.
If you fly with WestJet frequently, be sure to quote your WestJet Rewards ID, so that you can reach its top status tiers and enjoy the privileges that follow.
ATC the biggest scam of WestJet and Air Transat. Did not realize they also are excluded amounts for going up tier levels. Another reason not to book with WestJet.

Newly created Sunwing Vacations Group is WestJet Group’s vacation division
Post date: Oct 13 2023
Date: Oct 13 2023
By: Travelweek
TORONTO — The newly created Sunwing Vacations Group, the vacation division of the WestJet Group, now includes five vacation and retail travel brands: Sunwing Vacations and WestJet Vacations, U.S. tour operator Vacation Express, and travel retailers SellOffVacations.com and Luxe Destination Weddings.
The creation of Sunwing Vacations Group comes on the heels of the WestJet Group’s acquisition of Sunwing, which was completed in May 2023 .
Each brand within Sunwing Vacations Group will continue to be marketed as a unique standalone brand. Together they form the largest vacations brands in North America, says Andrew Dawson, President of Tour Operations for Sunwing Vacations Group.
“Our longstanding success at Sunwing has been centred on providing innovative vacation packages to Canadians. With the establishment of Sunwing Vacations Group, we are furthering our commitment and providing Canadians with even greater value and choice on sun travel,” says Dawson. “We are very excited to bring all of these brands together under Sunwing Vacations Group, and unite in our collective purpose of passionate people making vacation dreams come true.”
WestJet Group CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech says Sunwing Vacations Group, as a division of the WestJet Group, “simplifies the complementary nature of WestJet Airlines and Sunwing Vacations. As the largest packaged vacations provider in Canada, Sunwing Vacations Group will be instrumental in fulfilling the WestJet Group’s strategy to provide affordable, year-round leisure travel for Canadians from coast to coast.”
The new vacation division was recently unveiled to leaders across all brands within Sunwing Vacations Group.
“We’re thrilled to introduce Sunwing Vacations Group, and overjoyed that we were able to bring 140-plus leaders across all of these brands together to celebrate the launch of our new vacation division,” says Samantha Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer for Sunwing Vacations Group. “Leaders across the business united in person to share brand-specific updates and discuss best practices to help inform the customer experience, and to help propel each of these brands further in pursuit of offering Canadians unparalleled choice wherever they’re at in their vacation journey.”
A new corporate website, sunwingvacationsgroup.com , provides more information on the brands that make up the new vacation division.

How to book WestJet flights using points and miles
While frequent travelers are most likely familiar with Air Canada and its loyalty program, Aeroplan , one under-the-radar carrier that you may want to become acquainted with is WestJet . Though WestJet is not affiliated with any airline alliance, Canada's second-largest airline currently has 20 codeshare partners. With WestJet's partnerships, you can easily earn the airline's currency, WestJet dollars (equivalent to 1 Canadian dollar), when flying on partner airlines. WestJet dollars can then be used to book flights or vacation packages through the airline.
So, why would you want to fly with this particular carrier?
As some may deem WestJet a "budget" Canadian airline, the carrier soars above U.S.-based carriers Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines. Operating routes within the U.S., Canada, South America and Europe, WestJet may be a good (and sometimes cheaper) airline alternative.
Aside from finding great deals — like the round-trip, nonstop flight I booked from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Calgary International Airport (YYC) in Alberta for just $292 — you can also use your points and miles to book WestJet flights. Keep reading to learn more about how you can book WestJet flights using your points and miles.
Book WestJet flights using a travel portal
Unlike other airline loyalty programs, you cannot transfer your transferable credit card rewards to your WestJet account and book flights using points and miles. However, there are a few ways to use your hard-earned rewards on WestJet flights.
Book WestJet flights using the Chase Travel portal
Though it will not get you the best redemption on your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you can book WestJet flights through the Chase Travel℠ portal . TPG values Chase points at 2.05 cents apiece when transferring to partner airline and hotel programs. When you redeem through the travel portal, you get a fixed value of 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point, depending on which Chase credit card you have.
Since I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® , I can book WestJet flights through the travel portal at 1.5 cents apiece.
For example, this round-trip flight from FLL to YYC is currently $593 in basic economy when booking through the Chase Travel portal. Since my Ultimate Rewards points can be redeemed at a fixed value of 1.5 cents per point, it will cost me 39,501 points.
With WestJet's dynamic pricing model and this trip being nonrefundable, I suggest you shop around and/or wait for a better redemption (i.e., the price of the ticket decreasing) if you want to save money.

Book WestJet flights using the American Express Travel portal
Similar to booking with the Chase Travel portal, you can book WestJet flights using the Amex Travel portal . TPG values Amex points at 2.0 cents per point when transferring the points to partner hotels and airlines. When you redeem your points through the Amex portal, you get a fixed value of 1 cent per point. Therefore, you may not be maximizing your Amex points by booking via the travel portal.
For example, if I wanted to book this round-trip WestJet flight, it would cost me $719.50 or 71,950 Membership Rewards points.

Book WestJet flights using Delta SkyMiles
One potentially valuable way to book WestJet flights using points and miles is through the Delta SkyMiles program . While most partner airlines booked with SkyMiles price dynamically, WestJet itineraries still follow a fixed price: 12,500 miles each way for flights from the U.S. to Canada (or vice versa).
Even better? Availability tends to be quite good.
For example, here's a one-way search for four passengers from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) from mid-July to mid-August.
And here's the same date range in the opposite direction.
These flights can be quite pricey, so you may see redemption values significantly higher than our current valuation of Delta miles at 1.2 cents apiece.
This weeklong trip from Orlando to Toronto in June would set you back 25,000 SkyMiles plus $62.18 per passenger. The same flights through WestJet would be $681.91, giving you a redemption value of nearly 2.5 cents per mile.
These prices even hold for connecting flights — like this one from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Kelowna International Airport (YLW) in British Columbia's wine country.
You can also use Delta miles on WestJet's international flights, but they're priced significantly higher than itineraries within North America. For example, round-trip flights from Toronto to the United Kingdom are priced at 84,000 miles plus $200, while round-trip, nonstop flights from Calgary International Airport (YYC) to Seoul, South Korea's Incheon International Airport (ICN) start at 140,000 miles.
Remember that, as of Jan. 1, partner award tickets booked with Delta SkyMiles count toward earning elite status . You'll receive 1 Medallion Qualification Dollar for every 100 miles redeemed — so a round-trip flight from the U.S. to Canada on WestJet would earn 250 MQDs. Sadly, these reservations aren't eligible for the TakeOff 15 discount for booking Delta-operated award flights if you have certain Delta credit cards .
If you already have Medallion status, you're eligible for several perks when traveling on WestJet, including priority check-in and extra baggage allowance. Gold, Platinum and Diamond Medallion members can even select preferred seats at no additional cost.
Use Capital One miles to cover your WestJet flight
Capital One has more than 15 airline and hotel partners, and one perk of holding a Capital One credit card is the option to redeem your miles to cover your recent travel purchases. Yes, you can book a flight with your Capital One credit card and then redeem your miles at a fixed value of 1 cent per mile.
If you want to redeem your Capital One miles for recent travel, click on "Cover travel purchases," and you'll be taken to a screen with all of your eligible travel purchases made within the last 90 days. Then, decide which travel expenses you would like to offset with your miles.
You can choose to either approve the redemption entirely or edit the amount of miles you would like to use to cover part of your travel.
Best credit cards to book WestJet flights
If you're not a Canadian citizen, you cannot open a cobranded WestJet credit card. However, there are transferable rewards credit cards that you can use to book a WestJet flight. Here are a few of our favorite cards:
Chase Sapphire Reserve® ($550 annual fee):
- Current offer: Earn 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 in the first three months of account opening.
- Receive a $300 annual travel credit.
- Earn 5 points per dollar spent on flights booked through Chase Travel℠.
- Redeem Ultimate Rewards points on the Chase Travel portal for 1.5 cents per point.
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card ($95 annual fee) :
- Earn 5 points per dollar spent on flights booked through Chase Travel.
- Redeem Ultimate Rewards points on the Chase Travel portal for 1.25 cents per point.
The Platinum Card® from American Express : ($695 annual fee; see rates and fees )
- Current offer: Earn 80,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $8,000 in purchases in the first six months of card membership.
- Earn 5 points per dollar spent on flights booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar).
- Redeem Membership Rewards points on the Amex Travel portal for 1 cent per point.
Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card : ($0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $150; see rates and fees )
- Current offer: Earn 40,000 SkyMiles after you spend $2,000 in purchases in the first six months of card membership.
- Receive a $200 Delta flight credit after spending $10,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year (terms apply).
- Redeem Delta SkyMiles for WestJet flights.
Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card : ( $395 annual fee; see rates and fees )
- Current offer: Earn 75,000 Capital One miles after you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening.
- Receive a $300 annual travel credit for bookings made through Capital One Travel.
- Receive 10,000 bonus miles each year on your account anniversary.
- Redeem miles as a statement credit at a rate of 1 cent per mile; therefore, you can pay for your WestJet flight using your miles.
Bottom line
WestJet may be a Canadian airline, but this carrier has routes across the U.S., Europe and even South America. Like most airlines, WestJet's prices can fluctuate and are sometimes borderline abysmal. Luckily, you can use your points and miles to help cut the cost of the flight and even find deals that can get you to an international location for a fraction of the cost.
Whether you're looking to head to a Canadian destination, such as Toronto or Calgary, or even fly to popular European cities like Dublin and Rome, WestJet is a carrier that should be on your radar. Plus, since you can redeem your Delta SkyMiles, reserve flights through a travel portal or redeem miles as a statement credit to cover your airfare, you can easily book your next travel adventure using your points and miles.

The packages on their website don’t specify that transfers are included but when you select your hotel it specifies you can ”upgrade to private” transfers on their extras page? Does that mean they still offer bus transfers going to multiple hotels but if you want private it cost extra
2 replies to this topic
They've always included shared transfers, private tranfers are extra.
Transfers are included ,but we always chose private transfer for many reasons, as you can read about on this forum.

WestJet returns to Fredericton with seasonal service to Calgary
Airline to offer a flight twice a week starting in june.
Social Sharing
WestJet is returning to the Fredericton International Airport to offer a single flight, twice a week, from Fredericton to Calgary.
The seasonal non-stop service will start June 20 and run until Oct. 28.
It's the first time the airline has operated out of Fredericton since it cancelled its flight from New Brunswick's capital to Toronto on Nov. 15, 2022.
"Today's an awesome day," said Johanne Gallant, president and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport.
"The goal is to grow with WestJet, to expand on more frequency, and maybe expand on the season. So, we're very optimistic that this flight will do well and from there we grow."
The plane and route are different from what WestJet offered in its previous Fredericton operations.
"The flight that was here previously was Toronto to Fredericton," said Andy Gibbons, vice-president external affairs for WestJet, who made the announcement at the airport on Tuesday. "That was operated on our Q400 turboprop, so that's an aircraft we no longer operate in this region."
WestJet announces new flights to Calgary from Fredericton
Instead, Gibbons said, the jet to Calgary will be from the company's fleet of Boeing 737s with capacity between 150 and 180 seats, split between business and economy options. This is part of a shift in the company's strategy, Gibbons said.
"That's where the demand is and that's what this market wants," Gibbons said. "WestJet is about east-west and north-south. So commuter flights and regional services are not in our business plan for Atlantic Canada."
Tuesday's announcement follows another by WestJet in February, when it said it would resume flights from Moncton to Toronto twice a week starting in May.
In Fredericton, the company said it's focused on leisure flights.
"A Q400 flight to Toronto relies on a lot of business travel and a lot of government travel, and that's not our business priority right now," Gibbons said. "Our business priority right now is to be the largest, and we are the largest, leisure airline in Canada. This fits with our strategy and it is what the community wants."
The return of WestJet flights coincides with an increase in air passenger traffic, nearing numbers seen prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gallant said.
"This year could be pretty close to what we saw in 2019 pre-pandemic," she said. "We're really growing at a fast pace. We're so excited about that."

Toronto Pearson Airport reveals multibillion-dollar plan and here's what's changing
Latest Videos
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has announced a multibillion-dollar plan aimed at modernizing and updating Toronto Pearson International Airport .
On Friday, Toronto's airport authority said it had initiated discussions with design and construction companies on Pearson LIFT (Long term Investment in Facilities and Terminals), regarding the program's procurement, planning, and vision.
The capital plan spans more than a decade and will invest billions of dollars into Pearson's facility through multiple construction programs aimed at preparing the travel hub for challenges and service demands.
"This is the very beginning of what will be a decade-long investment in our facilities and our terminals across the airport," said Deborah Flint, president and CEO of the GTAA.
Earlier today, Toronto Pearson executives launched the first phase of a procurement process for LIFT at an industry forum for 700 construction industry stakeholders. LIFT will focus on modernizing airport assets, including high-speed taxi lanes to improve airfield performance,… pic.twitter.com/KTUVVYMgGo — Toronto Pearson (@TorontoPearson) April 12, 2024
"After many, many years, where we have had tired and aged assets across the airport facility, we'll be systematically investing in those, investing in them to bring them up to not just a state of great repair, but positioning them for the future."
According to the GTAA, Pearson has been meeting passenger needs by "deploying extraordinary resources to many of its aged assets and facilities," which it says is "not a sustainable solution."
Passenger traffic at the travel hub is expected to grow to approximately 65 million annually by the early 2030s, well above the 45 million passengers it saw in 2023.
The first program of LIFT is set to focus on modernizing airport assets, including high-speed taxi lanes to improve airfield performance, modernized airfield electric lighting and control systems, interim terminal facilities, and investments in power generation to advance towards net-zero targets.

Canada advises against all travel to Israel, West Bank due to heightened risk
By The Canadian Press
Posted April 12, 2024 10:15 pm.
Last Updated April 12, 2024 10:57 pm.
OTTAWA — Canadians are being told to avoid all travel to Israel and the West Bank because of the “unpredictable security situation” in the region.
Global Affairs Canada says there is a heightened risk of attacks on Israeli territory, while tensions and violence are high in the West Bank.
Palestinian health officials say a Palestinian man was killed and 25 others were hurt today after dozens of angry Israeli settlers stormed into a village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, shooting and setting houses and cars on fire.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says the regional security situation remains highly volatile and could escalate without notice.
She says Canadians should consider leaving the area by commercial means.
The updated travel guidance comes less than two weeks after seven aid workers with the World Central Kitchen, including a dual Canadian-American citizen, were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit their convoy while they were delivering food in the Gaza Strip.
