The Searchers 'Thank You' Tour
Packed with their chart hits and more, The Searchers are back on tour one final last time.
When The Searchers announced the end of their touring years in 2018, they left behind a legion of devoted fans and supporters who were shocked and saddened that they would no longer be able to enjoy the concerts and the music that over six decades had become such an important part of their lives.
The Searchers are proud and grateful to all their followers and fans who have supported them over the years for a wonderful and successful career and they have now agreed to go back for one final last time.
Their concerts are packed with their chart hits and more, which have made them a major attraction in theatres across the UK: Sweets For My Sweet , Needles & Pins , When You Walk In The Room , Goodbye My Love , Don’t Throw Your Love Away , Sugar & Spice , What Have They Done To The Rain . Just a selection of their thirteen entries into the British charts. Songs that are the soundtrack to our lives.
Don’t miss your very last chance to catch the final appearance of a truly legendary band. Appropriately the tour, at the request of The Searchers themselves, has been given a title. THANK YOU.

The Searchers interview: '60s band reflect on nearly 70 years as a band ahead of UK tour
14 March 2024, 11:56
By Tom Eames
The Searchers are the longest-running band in pop history, with nearly 70 years on the road.
Listen to this article
The legendary band who scored several massive hits in the 1960s are still performing today, and will embark on yet another UK tour this April.
Founded as a skiffle group in Liverpool in 1957 by John McNally, the band later recruited Mike Pender, Frank Allen, Tony Jackson and Chris Curtis as their most famous members at the height of their fame.
- QUIZ: How much do you know about 1960s music?
Frank and John are still performing as The Searchers today, alongside Spencer James and Richie Burns, and will be heading out on their Thank You tour from April to June.
Gold's David Andrews caught up with Frank and John to look back at their incredible career, including performing alongside The Beatles at the Cavern Club, and scoring massive hits with songs like 'Sweets for My Sweet' and 'Needles and Pins'.
In 2018, The Searchers announced that the band would be retiring, and they ended their farewell tour in March 2019. However, the group have since gone on to put on two more farewell tours.
Speaking about their decision, Frank said: "We actually decided to retire in 2019. We've been touring consistently for over 60 years and the fun was beginning to go out of it, so we had the rest, then COVID hit, so we stopped at the right time because there was a lot of things to organise to halt the whole process and you couldn't do anything anyway, so that was great.
"But then we got the pressure to maybe do one last tour to thank the people and we said, 'okay, we'll do that'. And that was a 48 day tour, which is just a walk in the park for us because we did 200 shows every year and that was just normal.
The Searchers "Needles And Pins" on The Ed Sullivan Show
"But it turned out to be incredible fun. I think it shocked all of us at how well we got on and what fun the whole thing was. And it was a huge success.
"And the last night in Liverpool at the Philharmonic was epic. I don't think there's any other way to describe it was the most, probably most memorable concert in our career.
"That was supposed to be it, end in Liverpool. Now we've gone on to this other thing. So we've done our ending in Liverpool, but now we've still gone on. Maybe we should have stopped there, but there were places we didn't do.
"Scotland went on about, 'you don't come up to Scotland'. So anyway, we're doing it and we're going to have fun and it's going to be a huge success."

The Searchers 'Thank You Tour 2024'
The Searchers are the longest running band in pop history
Fans Won't Let Them Retire
67 years on the road…. and still loving it
The Searchers are THE LONGEST RUNNING BAND IN POP HISTORY. Formed by John McNally in 1957, the Merseybeat mega-stars have been going longer than every other band in the world, even the Rolling Stones (by five years - the Stones formed in 1962).
Last year the band tried to hang up their famous Rickenbacker guitars with a final 'Thank You' tour of the UK.
But their sold-out 43 date tour was so successful, The Searchers have announced a second 'Thank You' tour in 2024.
Guitarist John McNally said "The fans don't want us to stop… and nor do we! The reception we had on the last tour was just amazing – fans singing along to our songs as if they were recent hits. It was such a tremendous experience, we're going to do it all over again!"
Bassist Frank Allen said "This musical journey is now in its sixty eighth year… we can't get our heads around it. Like so many of our contemporaries, we thought our careers wouldn't last more than a few years but here we are, nearly seven decades on. We've realised that The Searchers are for life, not just for Christmas! Another major factor in wanting to do it again is that the last tour was just so much fun. We can't wait to get back out there."
The 2024 'Thank You' tour – titled as a mark of respect and appreciation for their legions of fans – will take in towns and cities where The Searchers didn't manage to play in 2023. The tour starts on Saturday 6th April at the Alveston Hall, Nantwich and covers 28 dates, culminating at the Town Hall, Dudley on Thursday 13th June.
Fans will be treated to a full set of The Searchers' best-loved songs, including 'When You Walk In The Room', 'Goodbye My Love', 'Sugar & Spice', 'What Have They Done To The Rain' as well as their three UK No.1 hits 'Sweets for my Sweet' (1963), 'Needles and Pins' (1964) and 'Don't Throw Your Love Away' (1964). Also included will be material from the 70s and 80s, when the Searchers were signed to Sire Records, becoming label-mates with some of the hippest acts around including Talking Heads, The Cure, Madonna and The Ramones – who covered 'Needles and Pins'. This was one of the band's favorite creative periods and saw them recording at Rockfield Studios in Wales (famous for Queen's recording of Bohemian Rhapsody). Keep an ear out for gems including 'Hearts in Her Eyes', 'Love's Melody', 'Infatuation' and 'It's Too Late'. THE SEARCHERS have sold over 50 million records and scored thirteen UK chart hits - including three No.1's - and a sound that inspired some of the greatest artists of all time, including The Byrds, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen.
The band line-up includes original members John McNally (guitar, vocals) and Frank Allen (bass, vocals) and Spencer James (guitar, vocals – Spencer has been part of the line-up for 38 years) and Richie Burns (drums).
The Searchers Thank You Tour runs 6th Apr – 13th June 2024, with 28 dates across England. Tickets, dates and info: www.the-searchers.co.uk

The Searchers, 2023 Tour
Statement released on Thursday 7th October 2021.
You've probably now heard that John, Frank & Spencer are bringing The Searchers back for a solo tour in 2023.
I have had the honour of being a custodian of the Searchers drum throne for over 9 years & it was a wonderful experience, one I will never forget.
I was informed on Friday 1st October 2021, that I would not be involved in the 2023 tour, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank the band, & most importantly, you, the fans, for the spectacular memories. We play for you, to bring you the sounds that you love, & the music you hold so dear to your heart.
Enjoy the shows & thank you for making me so welcome & for taking me into your hearts & homes.
Lots of love.
Scott Ottaway.

The Searchers ‘Thank You’ – 2024
May 21, 2024
DATE / TIME: Tuesday, May 21, 2024 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
When the Searchers announced the end of their touring years in 2018, they left behind a legion of devoted fans and supporters who were shocked and saddened that they would no longer be able to enjoy the concerts and the music that over six decades had become such an important part of their lives.
They returned in 2023 for what was to have been one last tour, but such was the success of that tour, they have now agreed to go back for one final last time and appear at some of the many venues they weren’t able to visit on that tour. The Searchers are proud and grateful to all their followers and fans who have supported them over the years for a wonderful and successful career.
Their concerts are packed with their chart hits and more, which have made them a major attraction in theatres across the U.K. Sweets For My Sweet, Needles & Pins, When You Walk In The Room, Goodbye My Love, Don`t Throw Your Love Away, Sugar & Spice, What Have They Done To The Rain. Just a selection of their thirteen entries into the British charts. Songs that are the soundtrack to our lives.
Don’t miss your very last chance to catch the final appearance of a truly legendary band. Appropriately the tour, at the request of The Searchers themselves, has been given a title. THANK YOU.

The Searchers’ formation year is similar to my parents’ birth years. Hailing from Liverpool, making them some of the pioneers of the genre, English beat rock, they have had a huge string of hits throughout their fruitful career, and they are still doing what they’re doing fifty years after their formation! They are one of those bands that have definitely stayed in their ways, playing exactly the same as they did all those years ago. Transcending just wasn’t for them. However, their harmonies are quite simply a force to be reckoned with. “Sweets for my Sweet” is one of those fantastic songs that opens this set, with tight locking ‘threw the key away 50 years ago’ kind of harmonies, also I must say, they are so incredibly dressed! “Young Girl” is one of those songs that listening to it, I realize how before it’s time it was, with it’s modulations and octave bass line. It could have come out yesterday and been a hit!
