Renaissance , the concert film, is coming to the Philippines.

In an announcement made on November 10, Beyoncé unveiled the global trailer for Renaissance: A Film , which opens with the singer’s silhouette as she recites, “I close my eyes and travel through realms of space and time. Reality holds no power or control of my state of mind on my voyage.”

The trailer release was then followed by the ticketing details for theater screenings across the world, including the Philippines.

The concert film will start its screening on December 1 at SM Cinemas, Ayala Malls Cinema, Robinsons Movie World, and Vista Mall Cinemas. Tickets are available for purchase now via smtickets.com, physical SM Tickets outlets nationwide, or the SM Cinema app, as well as Robinsons Movie World’s website and Sure Seats.

Directed by Beyoncé herself, Renaissance: A Film sees theatric performances from the iconic singer’s famed Renaissance tour which kicked off last May in Europe. The film was first announced last October and will feature highlights from the tour’s entire run so far, as well as the tour’s highly raved-about visual components and behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the album and tour.

The tour comes in support of Beyoncé’s 7th studio album of the same name and features chart-topping hits like “Break My Soul”, “Cuff It”, and “Alien Superstar”. Renaissance , the album, comes as Beyoncé’s latest release since 2016’s Lemonade and is said to be the first installment of a trilogy project. The record was pieced together during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and seeks to inspire joy to those struggling with isolation while also celebrating club and dance culture.

This comes as the latest concert film to hit theaters in the Philippines, most recently following Taylor Swift ‘s The Eras Tour Concert Film .

Beyoncé Reveals Renaissance The Film Is Coming

Beyoncé’s billion dollar tour may have ended yesterday in New Orleans, but  Renaissance  will live forever.

After a year of fans clamouring for visuals, Beyoncé has finally snapped. Always one to overdeliver, she is not just releasing a music video, but rather a full concert film coming to a cinema near you:  Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé . The feature will capture her  record-breaking sell-out world tour  for her  Act 1: Renaissance  album. Posted to her Instagram, she captioned the trailer with a winking lyric from “All Up In Your Mind”: “Be careful what you ask for, ’cause I just might comply.”’

With performance clips from the concert going viral pretty much every single day over this summer, you’d be forgiven for thinking you had seen it all already – even if you didn’t snag a ticket. But the trailer indicates the film will reveal a glimpse of what was happening behind the scenes of the live sensation, which was at its heart, it seems, a wholesome family affair. Alongside the ecstatic audience reactions and  fabulous fashion bonanza , the clip teases footage of the mother-of-three with her twins  Rumi and Sir , Blue Ivy putting her game face on as she gets ready join her mother on stage, and Jay-Z watching in awe from the audience.

“When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” the 42-year-old superstar says in the voiceover. “My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged.” This is Beyoncé at her most self-assured, the tour a transformative moment. “I feel liberated,” she tells her husband. “I have transitioned into a new animal.” Sources tell  Variety  that, along with the highlights and prep for the tour, the film will also include the highly-anticipated visuals for the album, plus a “docu-style account” of its recording.

If Beyoncé’s last concert film,  Homecoming  – which revealed the meticulous training that went into her historic Coachella performance and earned her a Grammy – is any indication, we know we’re in for a treat. But we also just know that anyway. Because one thing about Beyoncé? She knows how to put on a show.

As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Popular on Variety

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

Beyoncé announces Renaissance world tour concert film

A new trailer teases footage from behind the scenes of her stunning sellout spectacle, live performances and time with Jay-Z and their children, including rehearsals with daughter Blue Ivy

Beyoncé has announced a new concert film based on this year’s massive tour for her 2022 album Renaissance .

“When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” the musician, 42, says in the trailer for Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé . “My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged.”

In a review of the first night in Stockholm in May, Guardian critic Malcolm Jack described the tour as “sheer, unfettered, mildly chaotic indulgence” and said: “By rewiring dance music past in a sensory overload of truly stunning ambition and stamina, Beyoncé is writing some history of her own.” The 57-date run recently concluded in New Orleans.

The trailer teases behind the scenes footage, showing Beyoncé rehearsing with her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, 11, who has been dancing on the tour, as well as interactions with her husband Jay-Z and their twins Rumi and Sir. Sources told Variety that the film would incorporate highlights from the world tour, documentary footage of the album’s recording and the tour’s conception – and the long-awaited music videos for the rumoured accompanying visual album.

As with Taylor Swift ’s upcoming Eras tour movie , the Renaissance film will be distributed direct via the AMC Theatres cinema chain in the US, bypassing traditional distributors. Variety reported that as with Swift’s self-financed film, Beyoncé will receive in excess of 50% of box office grosses.

Beyoncé has previously released a number of concert films, most notably the Netflix documentary Homecoming, which revealed the making of her staggering 2018 Coachella headlining set. It is the latest in a trend of lucrative films by musicians documenting their own careers, from Lewis Capaldi to Billie Eilish .

The Guardian named Renaissance the No 1 album of 2022, with critic Jenessa Williams describing it as “a tribute to the influence and endurance of the Black LGBTQ+ community, made in collaboration with producers and samples whose lived experiences and historical weight bring gravity to the sound”.

All The Things That Happened During Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour

renaissance world tour philippines

Still holding out for a Philippine leg (or legs) of the Renaissance World Tour

Perhaps one of the biggest saving graces of the year is Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour, which just kicked off at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. In the coming months, the pop icon of the century will promote her beloved seventh studio album, Renaissance (as if she needs to) . Despite a certain institution not giving her flowers due, Renaissance has garnered achievements and love—regardless of the lack of a certain Grammy award—especially as it celebrates and reveres the queer community and ballroom culture. Safe to say that this love and respect, coupled with impeccable artistry and a whole load of production value, translated into the first leg of Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour.

Up ahead, we recap all the worthwhile moments that make up an amazing concert. Yes, with moments like the face she made during Love On Top. And who knows, maybe this article will also manifest a couple of Philippine legs into existence. *Please!*

Shooting down stans (and haters)

Beyoncé on the Renaissance visuals: “The queen moves at her own pace b*tch. The queen decides she wants to give you a f*cking taste.” pic.twitter.com/qM7FloHmW3 — Rap Alert (@rapalert6) May 10, 2023

I’m one of the throngs of people patiently waiting for Renaissance visuals to drop—even if the wait has been extremely long. During the first leg of her tour, Beyoncé addressed the lack of music videos through the spiel. And while people believe that the Queen herself roasted her fans, we now have some reminders to hold on to when the world is rushing us, amirite?

The queen moves at her own pace, bitch.

The queen decides she wants to give you a fucking taste.

Performing in top-tier fashion

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by LOEWE (@loewe)

It’s no secret that Beyoncé never misses when it comes to fashion and all the ‘fits off the Renaissance Tour stage cement that further, with custom pieces from Courrèges and Balmain. Our favorite standouts? The custom Loewe body suit for Virgo’s Groove , not to mention the chrome breastplate and jumpsuit for Black Parade . A dazzling McQueen outfit that gives disco balls a run for their money. The color-changing ANREALAGE robe for Church Girl —everything was a spectacle from the dance numbers to the costumes. Mother went all out and we are not complaining.

An ode to vintage Thierry Mugler

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by MUGLER (@muglerofficial)

Speaking of fashion, one of the most outlandish but on-brand ‘fits was from Mugler. For America Has A Problem , Beyoncé emerged onstage in a bee-themed body suit with a matching antennae headpiece. The custom Mugler fit drew inspiration from its archives, specifically a piece that dropped back in Spring 1997 . Obviously, she’s leaning heavily into the label we’ve given her throughout the years of continuous slayage in the form of all her music and content. So you know what? She deserves to embrace it.

For Cozy , Beyoncé brought backup dancers from the future. Two robot arms holding frames move in synchronization with the beat and her moves, giving a peek into concerts 10, 20 maybe 30 years later. But perhaps the best work of stage production is her closing number of Summer Renaissance, where Queen Bey brings the album cover to life. Safe to say that budget was abundant to make this happen.

Paying tribute to the communities that inspired Renaissance

fun fact Beyoncé got inspired by Gustaph to include a ball dancer in pink in her number at her renaissance tour #Eurovision pic.twitter.com/pzQT9pj9X6 — rasmus (@rasmusbravado) May 11, 2023

Apart from actually singing on a disco ball , Queen Bey brought in a couple of dancers to vogue and hold their own ball onstage. Her tour dancers, which includes vogueing prodigy Honey Balenciaga , took the stage and danced their hearts out while Beyoncé went to change costumes. The screen also flashed a reworked Progress Pride Flag and ended with a photo of her Uncle Johnny , the person who introduced her to queer culture and music.

While the chance to see Queen Bey IRL is an honor I will cherish forever, watching Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour already shows me why it’s a highly celebrated affair. The best thing about the tour is the icon’s continuous effort to uplift the communities that made Renaissance the album that it is: the LGBTQIA+, the Black and Latino queer folks that established ballroom culture and the houses that keep these alive.

Experience some semblance of the joy of being there by listening to the setlist .

Beyoncé Announces Renaissance World Tour

The singer's record-breaking album is set to make history at this weekend's Grammys.

preview for What to Know About the 2023 Grammys

The superstar dropped the news this Wednesday morning on Instagram. In a post, she shared a photo of herself wearing a bejeweled armor-like bodysuit and silver mirrored cowboy hat while sitting atop a holographic horse.

"RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR 2023," she simply wrote in the caption.

Beyoncé released her seventh studio album on July 29, 2022, after recording it over three years during the COVID-19 pandemic. The singer wrote about the project in an open letter to fans.

"Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world," she shared. "It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration."

With Renaissance , Beyoncé has made Grammys history. For this year's ceremony —which takes place this coming Sunday—the star is nominated for nine awards, bringing her up to a total of 88 nominations to date. In a romantic turn, this ties her for the most-nominated artist in Grammys history with none other than her husband, Jay-Z.

Beyoncé's Renaissance smash "Break My Soul" is nominated for Record of the Year. This is her eighth nomination in the category and makes her the artist with the most ROTY nominations of all time. The track is also up for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, and the album is nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.

Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé's 'Renaissance' has arrived.: What we know, including the album leak, Kelis' sample

Beyoncé called out by Monica Lewinsky: over 'Partition' lyric after ableism controversy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets for the North American leg of the tour will be available through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 6, with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, according to a Live Nation press release.

Verified Fan registration is now open. Once you register, you'll be placed in a lottery system that determines which fans get invited to purchase tickets. Registration alone doesn't guarantee tickets. If you're selected, you'll get an access code the day before tickets go on sale. Everyone else will be placed on a waitlist. According to Live Nation, this process is intended to help Ticketmaster weed out the resellers and verify your account so that actual fans get priority to buy tickets.

Citi cardmembers will have a special Citi Presale after the Verified Fan process. Get more details here . Verizon will also offer an exclusive presale through their customer loyalty program Verizon Up .

Will Beyoncé be using Ticketmaster like Taylor Swift to sell tickets?

Yes, but given what happened with Taylor Swift's Eras tour (and the fact it led to Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster ’s practices), it seems very likely both Beyoncé and Ticketmaster would want to avoid repeating that mess. That most likely explains the usage of the Verified Fan system.

Where will Beyoncé be playing?

The Renaissance World Tour will hit 40 cities in North America and across Europe. Stops include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, and many more.

What has Beyoncé said about the Renaissance World Tour?

She just announced it was happening with a post on February 1. Her website didn't immediately contain any more details. But during the Wearable Art Gala in October 2022, she appeared to confirm it would start this summer, as a backstage tour with her mother Tina Lawson was up for auction at the event.

Will Beyoncé be performing at the Grammys (on February 5) and sharing more tour details there?

Not clear yet, but she is the most nominated artist at the ceremony . On January 21, Variety reported that “ talks with show producers are ongoing for a possible onstage appearance ” by Beyoncé.

What can we expect from the tour on stage?

Beyoncé hasn't shared that yet either, but given the artistry she put into her recent Dubai show , it's fair to say we can expect no less than excellence, elaborate costumes, and an incredible experience.

This post will be updated the moment more detail is released.

Is Beyonce coming to Manila? Promoter’s tweet has got the Beyhive buzzing

Images: @renaissanceworldtour_

Is Beyonce coming to the Philippines? The Filipino Beyhive seems to have been stirred up after this tweet by concert promoter Live Nation Philippines made the rounds online.

“SAY WHUUT?” the event company wrote, referencing a clip from Beyonce’s Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show they posted in which she performed alongside Bruno Mars and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

In the 29-second video, the pop star remarks, “Say, what?” about 18 seconds in as Bruno and Chris sing the chorus of Uptown Funk .

The tweet was picked up by @RenaissanceWT, the Twitter fan page run by the fan club @yoncecapital that posts regular updates on Beyonce’s latest world tour.

“What do you know, Live Nation Philippines?” It said.

Live Nation then posted a follow-up tweet about Bruno Mars’ upcoming two-day show in the Philippines in June, with tickets for Day 2 still up for grabs.

The Renaissance World Tour, Beyonce’s ninth concert tour, was announced in February and began in May. The show will run in 40 cities and features a three-hour concert.

Of course, it could be possible that the concert promoter simply wanted to make some noise for Bruno’s Day 2 show. After all, Asia isn’t on the list of stops for the Renaissance tour before it wraps up in September. That said, could we be looking at an extension?

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour Is the Spiritual Revival America Needs Right Now

The superstar's nearly three-hour tour de force couldn't have arrived at a more urgent time when her Black and queer muses are under attack.

“ America, America has a problem .”

Two weeks ago, when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down several laws that were intended to protect Black Americans and LGBTQIA individuals — Beyoncé was wrapping up the European leg of her highly anticipated Renaissance World Tour.

When the self-proclaimed Queen Bey returned to her homeland on Wednesday night, the timing couldn’t have been better. For a massive tour that was inspired by Black and queer artists who lived on the fringe of society — only the most consequential figure in modern music could provide refuge. Unlike many of her contemporaries, Beyoncé understands the power of her platform and how inescapably political it is.

For her to launch her pro-Black, pro-Queer, and pro-feminist U.S. tour date in the birthplace of democracy is as intentional as her dedicating her critically acclaimed album Renaissance to her late great Uncle Jonny — a Black queer man who passed away from HIV complications when she was younger. While other megastars drop Easter eggs on their fans for pure entertainment, Mrs. Knowles-Carter is more deliberate in tapping into the social consciousness of the challenging world her diverse fans still have to navigate.

Those who are white and conservative might consider her intentions propaganda. For a Black queer millennial like myself who has followed Beyoncé’s career my entire life, this is salvation.

I’m 31 years old, and I can’t ever recall when Beyoncé was not the soundtrack of my life. Growing up in Houston, Texas (her birthplace), my first Beyoncé concert was in 2004 when she performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I would later find out that I attended the same high school she (and powerhouse musician Lizzo) did — Alief Elsik High School.  It was in that same school building that I danced to her hit single “Single Ladies” during a 2009 talent show competition (I would later do the iconic dance with my Man of Honor at my wedding in 2021 ).

So it came as a surprise to no one that my squad of Black queer friends and I got glammed up to see her in the City of Brotherly Love. Draped in mesh, sequins and leather — we were serving disco cowboy as we came ready to slay. We first attended Xfinity Live’s official Renaissance concert tour tailgate (better known as “BeyGate”) where nostalgia immediately kicked in as Beyoncé’s 25-year catalogue of hits shuffled in a room filled with fans from various backgrounds and generations.

By the time we hit our floor seats, it was clear that we were gearing up for an out-of-body experience. To maximize the moment, I did something that I’ve never done at a concert before: I turned off my phone and soaked in the memories. Philadelphia gave the reigning Queen of Music a royal sold-out welcome at Lincoln Financial Field as 67,000 screaming fans (more affectionately known as the BeyHive) rocked with her for nearly three hours.

Beyoncé was a musical impresario — singing her own contemporary hits then merging them into familiar classics. (She transitions her 2011 ballad “1+1” into a cover of Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Going Down” in the first act.) Her band is immaculate — taking us through the 1970s, ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and back again without losing the pulse of the audience. Her vocals are disciplined, effortless and powerful — she’s not just singing, she’s sangin’ with the mic actually on. With all that’s happened in the past few weeks, many of her past tracks took on a different meaning and proved to have aged remarkably well (her performances of “I Care” and “Flaws and All” felt notably more passionate).

Beyoncé Renaissance World Tour

The show’s choreography was a masterclass. Beyoncé and her flawless dancers grooved through modern hip-hop, crump, break-dance, ballroom voguing, and had the crowd on its feet the entire night. Surprisingly, she didn’t lean on fan-favorites such as “Single Ladies,” “Drunk in Love,” and “Deja Vu” to achieve this feat. The woman has such a huge discography that you almost forget what she chose to cut for this tour.

But what will perhaps stay with me the most are the thematic elements that drove the entire show. Beyoncé explores Afrofuturism — taking her fans to a high-tech, melanated universe that’s not scary, but beautiful and liberating. A world where women in all shades, sizes, and orientations can be as sexual as they choose. A world where Black people are self-empowered and unapologetic about it. A world where LGBTQIA people can exist without fear — being as fat, femme, and free as they please.

In the most heartwarming moment of the show, Beyoncé’s 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter performed alongside her. Blue, already a Grammy winner , is impressively comfortable on stage and delivers choreography as fierce and imaginative as her mother. Moved by this family exchange, I had an epiphany about what Beyoncé was trying to achieve with this tour: She’s envisioned a world in which those whom she cares for so dearly (her family and fans) can be their best selves.

beyonce Renaissance World Tour

In those nearly three hours, it felt like the world was at peace. A crowd of thousands of singing fans weren’t idolizing a celebrity, but sharing safe space with diverse people connected by a powerful force called music. This wasn’t a concert; it was a spiritual revival for a demographic of individuals who needed to feel heard, seen, and felt. It was the best damn musical experience I’ve ever had in my three decades on this earth, and I doubt anything else will make me feel as inspired from a mainstream artist for quite some time.

At a time when it feels like the rest of America has a problem — the America I was in on Wednesday night at Lincoln Financial Field didn’t.
