first off, disconnect your battery for at least 30 min before touching any plugs or harnesses. next, bleed your A/C and disconnect the quick connects that go inside the firewall. drain your coolant, and disconnect hoses from firewall. note a certain bolt with nut on it that is going to the inside of the firewall, you'll need to take that off when you get to the airbox inside the truck which houses your heater core. next, take off the pillar handles next to the windshield, then pop off the plastic dash panel with defroster vents. there are a few bolts up there that need to be taken out all the way across. next, take off your glove box. remove plastic below the drink carrier. there are 2 bolts there on left and right once you remove the plastic. there's a yellow or red AirBag plug which you may or may not need to disconnect later. next, drop down the whole steering wheel column. 4 bolts I believe. look up under there on both sides, you will see a 2inch piece of tubing that goes from each side of the truck. your dash and everything you see in front of you is connected to that tube. find on each side of the truck where that tube is mounted to the body with brackets. There are 2-3 bolts on each side I think. When you get those out, and the steering wheel is sitting in the seat or on the floor, the whole dash and panel should tilt and lay on the seats. there are wires from your a/c controls and radio which you'll have to disconnect and some various other wires as well. I also think you'll have to disconnect a harness plug with bolt in it on the drivers side. (white) after you've done all that and don't have the dash and panel in a bind with wire hangups you can now get to the air box. I don't remember how many bolts, but don't forget the one in the engine bay going to it also. get the box unbolted, then roll it up, remove 2 clips holding the heater core in, replace heater core and do this whole process backwards. Hopefully you didn't lose any screws or bolts. charge your a/c, replace coolant, make sure all plugs are connected before connecting power. Should save you $400-$500 in labor.

It's a big job. Drain the coolant down, recover the freon in the ac system and disconnect the lines and heater hoses. Lower the steering column, remove the instrument panel assembly, remove the heater housing. Split the case halves on the housing and there you are. Usually around 500 to 700 dollars at a dealership.

SOURCE: How to get at the

First, you will need to jack up the driver side front wheel. Then, remove the wheel. With the wheel off, you can remove the plastic fasteners holding the battery access panel (bottom front section of inner wheel well). After you remove the cover you can reach in and disconnect the cables, then remove the battery. Hope this helps!

Fix your 1st gen Dodge Journey yourself with quality auto parts at 1aauto.com

Top 5 Issues with the 1st Gen Dodge Journey (2009 to 2020)

1. heater core problems, symptoms of heater core problems.

  • No heat when the heat is turned on
  • Heat temperature is lower than normal

Causes of a Bad Heater Core

The heater core can clog on the 1st gen Journey from sediment in the coolant.

How to Fix a Bad Heater Core

As a temporary fix you can flush out the heater core by disconnecting the coolant hoses that lead into the firewall and connect to the heater core.

Replacing the heater core includes removing the dash, the steering wheel, and electronics like the radio. The A/C evaporative core is also part of the heater box, so the A/C system will need to be recovered and recharged.

2. Throttle Body Problems

Symptoms of throttle body problems on the 2009 to 2020 dodge journey.

  • High RPMs at idle
  • Rough running engine at idle
  • Check engine light for code P2112 or P2110

How to Fix Throttle Body Problems

Cleaning the throttle body will not fix these problems on the 2009 to 2020 Dodge Journey. The problem is an issue with the internal sensors and motor, so the throttle body will need to be replaced.

3. Key Fob Failure

Symptoms of a bad key fob.

  • Vehicle won’t start
  • Door locks don’t work

How to Fix a Key Fob

If there is another remote, see if it works. If it doesn’t, replacing the key fob battery usually fixes this issue.

4. Thermostat Failure

Symptoms of a bad thermostat.

  • Check engine light for code P0652

How to Fix a Bad Thermostat

Low temperature gauge is a sign of thermostat problems on the 2009 to 2020 Dodge Journey

To replace the thermostat, the thermostat needs to be replaced with the housing as one piece. Since a bad heater core can also cause the symptom of no heat, if the temperature gauge is not in its usual position, the thermostat likely has an issue.

5. Wiper Relay

Symptoms of wiper problems.

  • Wiper speeds not working
  • Windshield wipers not working

Causes of Windshield Wiper Problems

Windshield wiper problems on the 1st gen Dodge Journey tend to stem from issues with the wiper relay. If the wipers won’t turn on, it could be the motor relay, and if the wipers have issues with the settings, it could be the wiper speed relay.

How to Fix Wiper Problems

Pointing to the speed control relay placed next to the identical wiper motor relay

Remove the fuse box cover from the fuses in the engine bay.

Since the relays are the same part number, they could be swapped, so if the wipers are not turning on, try swapping them to see if it’s causing the issue.

If there is an issue with the wipers’ speed, the wiper speed relay will need to be swapped with a new relay to test it.

Symptoms of a failing Heater Core

Leaks inside the car.

Cars use a lot of liquid, so leaks aren’t that uncommon. The heater core, however, is the one component in your car that will leak inside of the car. You’ll likely notice it as a puddle underneath the dashboard, though you might see it slowly dripping from the dash as well. Either way, that’s a sign that your heater core is having a tough time. Similarly, you may not notice the sight of the liquid, but you might notice the smell of it. If you smell coolant in your car, it’s probably the heater core.

Heater isn’t working

Your car’s cabin heater depends on the heater core in order to work. Without the heater core, there’s no way for the climate controls to actually get hot air. So, if the heater core fails, your car won’t have any hot air, or perhaps will have only a tiny amount of hot air. Fine in July. Not so much in January.

Windows are fogging up

Your windows may fog up for two reasons if your heater core fails. First, the car often relies on hot air when defrosting the windows, so it will struggle without that air. And second, the leaking coolant can cause a slight steam that will fog the windows to the point where you may not be able to see out of the windshield.

Coolant levels are low

Look, I’m not going to tell you how to spend your time. I’m just going to tell you that it wouldn't hurt to take a few minutes to check the fluid levels in your car. You might spot small issues before they become big issues. If you notice that your coolant level is low, you probably have a leak somewhere. That leak may be from the heater core.

Engine is overheating

Or, you can just do it the less responsible way, by not monitoring your coolant level, and just waiting for your engine to overheat. Your choice.

How urgent is a heater core replacement?

That entirely depends on whether or not you like having a properly functioning coolant system and interior heating system.

If you shivering in your car while the engine overheats, and coolant puddles on the floor mat, then there’s no urgency at all! Otherwise, yeah. You’ll want to get it fixed asap.

Heater core sediment

Just finished a heater core replacement after no heat on the passenger side. It’s a 2012 r/t, I’ve had it for 3 years. I did four 4 litre jug flushes last week after seeing a bit of sediment at the bottom of the containers. I flushed the old heater core once it was out of the car and got this out if it. If that was in the heater core what’s left in the radiator?

We nearly overheated on a road trip this summer going over a mountain pass, would it be possible the radiator to be partially clogged with this crud?

yes it could be possible after all it's a 12 yr old car,,, do a complete flush of the system then add new coolant  and I would change out the thermostat as well,,which eng do you have? 3.6 is real easy and make sure you bleed the air out of the system as well. good luck

It’s the 3.6, new thermostat last year and bled the system with the bleeder screw, checked it this morning after getting up to temp to open the thermostat. No more bubbles coming out. Fingers crossed

I always try to replace thermostat anything I am messing with the coolant system, it's a inexpensive preventative maintenance at that point even if it's a year old. Rather spend the extra $20 and extra few minutes all at once then possibly regret it later.

@2late4u  hello hello! I have a 2010 dodge journey with the 3.5L.

I did have the no heat passenger side, long story short I did replace the thermostat, ruled out actuators and then one day I smelt coolant in the cab so made the call for heater core.

Here's where I hope I didn't mess up too bad though - I saw a guy on YouTube cut his new heater core lines and use heater hose and hose clamps to connect old lines from firewall to new at heater core(save labor time and swearing amount). So that is how I did ours. Immediate improvement, blowing heat better than ever! No leaks.

My problem comes a month later though, when driving yesterday I smeled coolant in the cab again ? had a peek at the heater core and noticed the aluminum fitting directly at the heater core must not be sealed correctly as there is definitely a small amount of coolant there. I'm pretty sure I should just be able to tap it in with a chisel and hammer lightly until it seals but what are your thoughts? Should I remove heater core and replace o-ring or gasket at the aluminum lines? It's-51 with the windchill here in sk so a coolant leak, even if small,is the last thing we need!

TIA for any and all help!

Having done the heater core the same way as you posted.

YES one needs to be VERY GENTLE with vibrations of cutting the lines on the new heater core, or damage will happen as you post.

I also knew that when using heater hose and screw clamps that you also need to go back to them after a little while and RECHECK the clamps tightness. My son who drives the vehicle I post of did not give me a chance to do such UNTIL he complained of a wet drivers side floor and lack of heat. The time period involved was also right about a month.

If you are sure it's from tube to core body, whatever you decide to do, make sure you recheck the rubber hoses and clamp tightness.

I'd also recommend checking the clamps first. Sometimes just a half turn is all you need to do to seal it up. Not saying tighten that bad boy until a vain pops cause that can create leaks too.

Otherwise worst case if the leak is not bad wait until a warmer day that is not in the negative temperatures. Just make sure to keep an eye on your coolant level and keeps some rags and plastic bags in case it worsen.

I would def try to tighten the alum ridges that clamp around the tubes just be carefully,as mentioned above the tubes are sensitive to any movement, I wouldn't try to replace the o rings as they should still be ok

@Locosiete   @2late4u  awesome thanks for the tips! I will be bringing it into my shop later this week when the extreme cold warning is done. Will be sure to post how it goes!

  • 2late4u and Locosiete

@Locosiete   @2late4u  it was definitely (so far) just the hose clamps needing a little tightening! What a relief, thank you guys so much!!

Most common mistake people do is start with the worst case scenario. Start small then work up frim there. Otherwise you'll end up replacing the engine each time the air filter gets clogged.

The smallest things sometimes cause the biggest problems.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

!{Model.Description}

2010 journey heater core replacement

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.
