Al-Bidyah Mosque

Al-Bidyah Mosque , also known as the Ottoman Mosque , holds the distinction of being the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates , dating back to the 15th century. Situated in a quaint village approximately 40 km from the city of Fujairah, the Al-Bidyah Mosque remains an active place of prayer to this day. Constructed from mud bricks, it features a small prayer room and a mihrab , which is the prayer niche oriented towards Mecca.

Visitors, including non-Muslims, are welcome to come in and have a look, and explore the mosque’s historical significance . However, it is essential to dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered, and women must also cover their hair. Shoes should be removed upon entry, and during prayer times, visitors are not allowed, so as to not disturb the worshippers.

The surrounding area is characterized by ancient watchtowers and archaeological excavations that bear witness to the region’s earliest settlements dating back to the Iron Age. For a captivating experience, climb the hill of Al-Bidiyah Fort , offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding valley. Embracing the ancient atmosphere of this site is undeniably one of the most rewarding things to do in Fujairah.

Al Bidyah Mosque Fujairah

Fujairah Fort

Fujairah Fort stands as one of the oldest and most beautiful forts in the UAE. Dating back to 1670, it served as the primary defense fortress of Fujairah for centuries, and it also housed the ruling family. Comprising three main sections with numerous rooms and two round towers, the fort boasts an impressive architectural design.

Unfortunately, during the early 1900s, the fort suffered significant damage due to a British attack. However, in recent years, extensive restoration efforts have brought it back to its original splendor.

Today, around Fujairah Fort , you’ll find the captivating Heritage Village . Here, visitors can explore ancient traditional houses and enjoy exhibitions on traditional local life, providing a glimpse into the region’s rich history and culture.

Fujairah Museum

The Fujairah Museum is located near the Fujairah Fort and houses a collection of artifacts, weapons, and utensils dating back to the Bronze Age, as well as an exhibition on the traditions of local life.

Al Aqah Beach is particularly popular with families who take advantage of it for swimming and sunbathing. But what makes Al Aqah Beach truly unique is the fact that in front of the beach there is an islet, renowned for being one of the best spots for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.

The rocky islet, called Snoopy Island , attracts people from all over the world for its coral reef , and for excellent scuba diving opportunities .

Bithnah Fort

Approaching Bithnah Fort you will feel just like an explorer in the desert: this wonderful oasis surrounded by palm trees is located just 13 km from the city of Fujairah and houses one of the most important castles in the area.

Built in 1735 the Bithnah Fort is located between the Hajar Mountains and Wadi Ham , and is characterized by its mighty stone walls and circular towers.

The area is particularly photogenic, the fort is located in the middle of a palm grove with the rugged Hajar Mountains in the background.

Fujairah Oasis Bithnah Fort

The mountain village of Masafi, about 33 km northwest of Fujairah, is a good place to take a look at the peaceful inland life.

This village is located in the Hajar Mountains , on the road leading to Ras al-Khaimah. The border between the two emirates, that of Fujairah and that of Ras al-Khaimah, passes right in the middle of the village.

Before the construction of modern highways in the 1970s, Masafi was a trading post and refueling stop for caravans traveling between the coasts . Today it is famous for its natural springs (it is one of the largest producers of mineral water in the Gulf) and for the remains of its past, including a small fort.

Along the main road, just before arriving in Masafi (coming from Sharjah or Dubai), there is a traditional local market called Friday Market (but despite its name it is open every day), which is a great place to get something to eat or to bargain for local rugs and handicrafts.

Al-Hayl Castle

Al-Hayl Castle is located in a remote village in the mountains (it is better to go there with a 4WD car) and in past centuries it was one of the most important defensive forts in Fujairah.

Built around 250 years ago, Al-Hayl Castle was one of the residences of Fujairah’s ruling family. Today there is not much of the castle left, except for a complex of buildings and two towers.

However the trip to Al-Hayl Castle deserves, the place is still little visited and little known to mass tourism, so you can still get an idea of the rural life of these areas.

Hajar Mountain Wadis

The Fujairah region is the wildest in the UAE, between a desert of sand and stones and rugged and remote mountains. One of the best things to do in Fujairah is undoubtedly an experience in the Hajar Mountains .

The whole area is crossed by the so-called Wadis : a wadi is a dry river bed, but often the term indicates the oases of the valley. Expert guides accompany visitors through these arid and rocky areas on 4×4 excursions (wadi-bashing).

The most popular areas are Wadi Maidaq (characterized by the presence of hieroglyphics visible on the rocks), and Wadi Siji .

Wadis are very important for the ecosystem, which is why the government has begun to prohibit access to some of them (for example, the spectacular Wadi al-Wurayah is now closed to the public) to protect the nature and delicate wildlife of the place.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah

Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah is the second largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates, after the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque of Abu Dhabi.

This mosque is really huge, it can accommodate 32,000 worshipers and has 6 minarets 100 meters high each. Its white facade, domes and rich decorations make it one of Fujairah’s most iconic landmarks.

Unfortunately, non-Muslims are not allowed inside the mosque, but it is possible to admire and photograph it from the outside.

Ain al-Madhab Hot Springs

The areas at the foothills of the Hajar Mountains are known for the presence of sulphurous thermal springs , one of which is that of Ain al-Madhab Hot Springs, which is located just outside Fujairah city.

Ain al-Madhab Hot Springs park is particularly popular with locals, who come here to relax, have a picnic or BBQ with the family, and bathe in the thermal pools.

The Ain al-Madhab Hot Springs are characterized by several pools of hot sulphurous mineral water, with separate bathing areas for males and females.

If you want to spend time like the locals would do, this is the place for you. The Ain al-Madhab Hot Springs park is family-friendly and, especially on weekends, very popular, also because of its rather cheap entrance fees: 5 AED for the pools + 2 AED for the entrance to the park.

Wahlah Fort

Wahlah Fort (sometimes referred to as Awhala Fort or Ohala Fort ) is a small fortress located in a remote village near the border with Oman, situated over 30 km from Fujairah city.

The village of Wahlah is one of Fujairah’s lesser-known hidden gems, offering a unique and off-the-beaten-path destination for visitors. The well-preserved fort is strategically positioned, boasting watchtowers and typical defensive walls, which add to its historical significance and charm.

Bull Butting

Okay, this is definitely a show one would not expect in the UAE. But it is actually quite popular in neighboring Oman.

In the winter months, the traditional bull fight takes place every Friday in Fujairah. The place where Bull Butting takes place is a dusty and muddy area south of the Fujairah Corniche , well recognizable by the huge number of SUVs parked along the street during the show.

The fight takes place between dozens of bulls. The bulls take turns fighting against each other. The first who runs away loses. No cash prizes are won, but a bull that wins a lot is synonymous with prestige and honor for its owner.

14 Top-Rated Attractions & Things to Do in Fujairah

Written by Jess Lee Updated Dec 27, 2023 We may earn a commission from affiliate links ( )

The Emirate of Fujairah incorporates much of the eastern coast of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and a swath of the country's Hajar Mountain region. Its main center is the modern industrial town of Fujairah city, which itself has few tourist attractions.

Although you maybe won't want to linger long in town itself, away from Fujairah city's grid pattern of high-rise office blocks, the emirate offers plenty of things to do.

Fujairah Emirate's beaches to the north attract a steady stream of visitors looking for a quieter sun-and-sand vacation than offered in Dubai. This slice of coastline is also one of the best places to visit in the UAE for scuba diving.

Although the main sightseeing attraction is the sand, for adventurous travelers, the Emirate of Fujairah's section of the Hajar Mountains offers hiking within the rugged desert mountain heartland, and scenery-laden road-tripping opportunities.

For ideas on what this lesser-visited emirate can offer, use our list of the top attractions and things to do in Fujairah.

Snoopy Island

For sun-and-sand in the Emirate of Fujairah, most people head straight to Al Aqah , with its long beach rimming the shore and the rocky outcrop of Snoopy Island dominating the view of the Gulf of Oman from the sun-loungers.

Just 45 kilometers north of Fujairah city, Al Aqah is one of the UAE's lesser-developed resort areas, with only a scatter of five-star hotels lining the beachfront, though a lot more development is planned for the future.

For now, this is still the place to escape the crowded beaches of Dubai for a quieter beach vacation.

The beach resort hotels studding the coast here cater both for visitors seeking easygoing days of sunbathing and water sports enthusiasts, with facilities on-site for divers, snorkelers, and paddleboarders.

Al Aqah is the center of the UAE's scuba diving scene, and although the reefs just offshore in the Gulf of Oman are not on par with the Middle East's famed Red Sea , there is plenty of fish life to see.

The main dive sites include two wrecks that were purposely sunk to create an artificial reef for divers and the car cemetery site (created during the 1980s when a series of cars and trucks were sunk to create an artificial reef for local fishermen).

Marine life is abundant for divers, with turtles and black tip sharks regularly seen at some sites, as well as large shoals of fish ranging from trevally to parrotfish.

Hajar Mountain Scenery in Fujairah

The Hajar Mountains slice through the inland northern region of the UAE. The scenery of jagged mountain peaks is a world away from what most people associate with the country and is prime road-trip territory.

Officially different sections of the Hajar belong to Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, and Sharjah emirates and even on a short drive trip between the west coast and the east, you'll be able to take in a sliver of the majestic mountain views.

The main connecting roads running inland, such as the E18 and E87 running from Ras Al-Khaimah to the east coast, and the particularly beautiful E89 running north from Masafi to Dibba Al-Fujairah , offer a feast of panoramas.

Al-Bidyah Mosque

About 35 kilometers north of Fujairah city, the mud-brick Al-Bidyah Mosque is the oldest in the United Arab Emirates and was named after the town that once surrounded it.

The engineering features are a major accomplishment for the period of construction.

The mosque consists of a prayer hall, decorated with arches and featuring ventilation openings and a mihrab (prayer niche pointing to Mecca ). A central pillar divides the internal space into four squares of similar dimensions, covered by domed ceilings.

The site surrounding the mosque has been excavated to reveal that it has been inhabited for 4,000 years.

A large Islamic graveyard just to the north contains a massive tomb dating back to the Iron Age, which when unearthed revealed fragments of pottery, metal arrowheads, and other artifacts dating back to at least 1000 BCE.

Wadi Maidaq

For hikers and climbers, exploring Fujairah's Hajar Mountain wadis (a wadi is essentially a dry riverbed that can contain water after a heavy rain but can also refer to any valley oasis) is one of the main things to do in Fujairah.

Among the most beautiful wadis in the area are Wadi Siji , Wadi Saham , and Wadi Maidaq .

Wadi Ham , with its northern section in Ras Al-Khaimah running down to its southern tip in Fujairah, is the longest valley, and Wadi Al Taiwan is a fun place to visit just as much for the stunning mountainous route it takes to reach it.

North of Fujairah, Wadi al-Wurayah is the UAE's most famous wadi and is a UNESCO biosphere reserve, though it has been closed to the public by the authorities to preserve its sensitive and unique ecology for the past few years.

Fujairah Fort

Built in 1670, Fujairah Fort was badly damaged by a British attack in the early 20th century.

Considered the oldest fort in the United Arab Emirates , it has served previously as both a defensive building and a home for the ruling family. For many centuries, it was the only stone building along the Fujairah coast.

The fort has three major sections, several halls, one square tower, and two round towers. In recent years, it has been fully restored to its former glory.

The area surrounding the fort is part of a small Heritage Village set up by Fujairah's Department of Archaeology and Heritage.

Here, you can see restored old houses, exhibits about traditional life, and a display of the Al Yazrah irrigation system that Emirati farmers used in their fields.

Khor Fakkan Waterfall

Khor Fakkan is one of Sharjah Emirate's three exclaves on the eastern coast (along with Dibba and Kalba ), but most people will visit as part of a trip through the Emirate of Fujairah, as the town of Khor Fakkan is just 30 kilometers north from Fujairah city.

Right on the eastern coast's main north-south highway overlooking the beach, in central Khor Fakkan town, is an artificial 43-meter-high waterfall, cascading down a purpose-built rocky cliff face, and a large modern theater built in Classical-Roman-era style.

Opened in 2020, this has become a popular place for tourists to stop off to stretch their legs and take a few photos on the journey between Al Aqah and Fujairah. Both offer great panoramic views across to the sea and are slightly surreal attractions to snap a few pics of, themselves.

Kayaks on Al-Rafisah Dam

Part of Sharjah's east coast exclave of Khor Fakkan, the Al-Rafisah Dam is six kilometers inland from Khor Fakkan town and 30 kilometers north from Fujairah city.

The Dam, surrounded by a landscape of jagged, dusky mountain peaks and home to plenty of birdlife, is a popular destination for families who want to enjoy an easygoing day out of the city surrounded by nature.

On the shorefront there are good facilities including a restaurant, café, a couple of shops, and a large children's playground, as well as plenty of space for picnicking. If you want to get out onto the water itself, there are kayaks and pedal-boats for hire.

Note that it can get very busy here on weekend afternoons so if you're looking for a quieter experience, try to come on a weekday.

Bithnah Fort

If you're heading into the Hajar Mountains to explore, make sure to stop off at Bithnah.

This small settlement in Wadi Ham , just 13 kilometers west from Fujairah city, was a strategic stop on the trade routes between the west and east coast for centuries.

The main tourist attraction here is Bithnah Fort , built in 1735, which was considered of vital importance to the defense of this section of the Arabian Peninsula's eastern coastline.

The fort's bulky frame of thick golden-stoned walls, edged by a chunky circular watch tower, makes it particularly photogenic, while the views from the ramparts over the countryside of palm groves and jagged mountains behind are spectacular.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque

Fujairah's modern Sheikh Zayed Mosque covers a site the size of three football pitches and boasts six minarets which are 100 meters high. The mammoth prayer hall has space for 32,000 worshipers.

Since its opening in 2015, the traditional Ottoman-style mosque has become one of Fujairah city's major landmarks, and it ranks as the second biggest mosque in the United Arab Emirates after the more famous Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi .

Non-Muslim visitors can enter the mosque to view the ornate interior, which features grand chandeliers and Moorish-style arches, between 9am and noon Saturday to Thursday. The mosque offers free tours to visitors during this time.

If you would like to visit make sure to dress appropriately, wearing long-sleeved tops and long trousers or skirts, and female visitors should bring a head scarf.

Address: Al Ittihad Road, Fujairah City

Fujairah Museum

Just south of Fujairah Fort, the Fujairah Museum has an excellent collection of artifacts, dating from the early Bronze Age, that were unearthed during archaeological digs at Qidfa and Bithnah .

Exhibits include Bronze and Iron Age weaponry, painted pottery, carved soapstone vessels, and pre-Islamic silver coins.

One of the museum's prized pieces, discovered at Qidfa, is a bowl made from ostrich egg dating back 2,200 years.

There is also a good ethnography section, with displays of traditional Emirati daily life and craft work.

Address: Madhab Road, Fujairah City

Al-Hayl Castle

The UAE's east is home to a handful of forts that make for good stop-off points on a road trip heading south from Fujairah city.

Al-Hayl Castle , 11 kilometers west of Fujairah City, was once used as the headquarters for Fujairah's ruling family.

Built approximately 250 years ago, it has played an important role in the area's defense, used as a base for surveillance and patrolling to guard Fujairah from attack.

Not much remains today – the original fortifications have long since been demolished – except one two-level tower, which sits on the hill as a reminder of the days when these forts were scattered all across strategic hillsides in what is now the United Arab Emirates.

From Al-Hayl, turn south and drive 30 kilometers on the minor inland roads heading for the village of Wahlah (also spelt Aouhlah ).

Here, you'll find the distinctive Awhlah Fort (also spelt Wahlah Fort ), which, with its thick high walls, is one of the best preserved examples of defensive architecture in the emirate.

It lacks the over-restored "new" look of many of the other forts in the United Arab Emirates and so is a great place for history buffs to come and capture a sense of Emirati heritage.

Inside, the circular watch tower is 20 meters high and has narrow windows built into the walls for archers and excellent views.

On the northwestern edge of Fujairah city, the hot springs of Madhab Springs Park are a popular local retreat.

The Ain al-Madhab mineral springs here produce warm sulfuric water that is pumped into two swimming pools (separated by gender).

The pools are surrounded by a large park, which is where Fujairah families come for barbecues, picnics, and games. There is also a well-maintained dedicated children's playground area. Unsurprisingly, the Madhab Springs Park area gets packed on weekends.

If you've been traveling and need a soak to soothe out niggly pains, the mineral-rich waters of the pool here are a good option.

Masafi

About 33 kilometers northwest from Fujairah, the village of Masafi is on the edge of the Hajar Mountains, on the crossroads of the main inland routes north to Dibba and west to Dubai . It was originally a trading post and refueling stop before the region's modern highways were built in the 1970s.

Masafi sits on the border between two emirates, with the larger section of town part of Fujairah, and the smaller section belonging to the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah .

Masafi is famous in the United Arab Emirates for its natural springs, and the Gulf's leading mineral water producer (named after the town) is nearby.

For travelers, though, it's mostly known for its local market, with stalls lining the main Dubai-Fujairah Road on the edge of town.

The market sells local produce, earthenware pottery, local handicrafts, and carpets and is a popular place to visit on a road trip to stretch your legs while browsing the stores.

Bull butting

The sport of bull butting is thought to have been introduced to this region of the Arabian Peninsula by the Portuguese. Today Fujairah is one of the few places in the UAE where the tradition still survives.

In Fujairah , bull butting is a popular family event. It takes place every Friday evening during the winter months at a field along the city's coastal road.

The event begins with 20 bulls battling each other by going head-to-head and pushing each other until one gives up. Numbers slowly dwindle as winners move on to the next round. There's no prize for the ultimate winner except for the value of the winning bull being increased.

Address: Corniche Road, Fujairah City

Most tourists visiting Fujairah stay at the coast's beach resorts rather than in the city itself. Most of the resorts are in the luxury category while Fujairah city offers more business-style hotels.

  • The InterContinental Fujairah Resort is a sprawling five-star resort known for its exceptional service and plenty of children's activities on offer. The architecture and interiors are chic and contemporary, and the pool area and beach are exceptional.
  • The Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort has an on-site PADI dive center and sports an eclectic Middle Eastern style throughout its interiors. There is an immaculately kept slice of beach.

  • North of Al Aqah, at Dibba Al Fujairah, the Radisson Blu Resort Fujairah offers a swag of facilities, including a spa, swimming pools, a private beach, and bright modern rooms with balconies overlooking the sea.

Budget Hotels:

  • If you're looking for affordable accommodation, hotels in Fujairah city tend to be cheaper than the larger resorts along the coast. Ibis Fujairah offers excellent value in the city center, with a swimming pool, mountain views from rooms, and a restaurant.
  • Next door, Novotel Fujairah is one of the central city's most popular choices for its good-sized contemporary-styled rooms, including breakfast, a restaurant, and rooftop pool.
  • Across the road is the Nour Arjaan by Rotana - Fujairah , with contemporary rooms and suites, which are ideal for families or longer stays. It offers a pool, spa, and included breakfast.

Major Settlements in Fujairah

Fujairah city is the capital of Fujairah Emirate . Whilst Fujairah is known for its beauty, it is also an industrial hub with a major port and a large number of oil storage facilities. The city itself is a hotchpotch of strip-malls and flashier steel and glass office buildings emanating from the busy main street of Hamad Bin Abdullah Road.

Apart from Fujairah city, there are several other large settlements along the coast including Dibba & Khorfakkan .

Khor Fakkan Port is also a busy industrial port on the UAE's East Coast

Dibba, Fujairah

Famous for a rebellion fought in 633AD, the town of Dibba falls partly in Fujairah, partly in Sharjah and partly in the Sultanate of Oman . This large natural harbour has been an important centre of maritime trade since ancient times.

Today Dibba is home to a number of resort hotels and is an interesting place to visit because of the diversity between the three different regions of the city. It is also a launchpad for trips to the ruggedly beautiful Musandam Peninsula ; Known as ‘the Norway of the Middle East’ the cooler climate, fjords and abundance of wildlife make Musandam a much-loved weekend retreat but note you will need your passport and visas are required – you can learn more about planning a Musadam road trip and border crossing here.

The Musandam Peninsula north of Diibba

Khorfakkan (Khor Fakkan)

Khorfakkan, technically an exclave of Sharjah, is home to one of the UAE’s largest container ports as well as a long sandy beach. As a visitor it is important to remember that whilst there is free-flowing alcohol in the resort hotels of Fujairah, Sharjah is a ‘dry’ state and alcohol is strictly forbidden. Even carrying booze in the car can technically result in a fine and/or time in prison.

Fujairah beaches, swimming, snorkelling and other water sports

Whilst there are many sandy beaches in Fujairah arguably the best is at Al ‘Aqah around an hour’s drive from Fujairah City via the E99. The water is shallow and clear and the beach is clean with no shortage of amenities. Due to the nature of the beach, this stretch is home to many large family resort hotels, our pick of the best you’ll find here.

Most of the resort hotels offer sunbeds and umbrellas to their guests and there are lifeguards employed by the hotels along their respective sections of the beach. Whilst the sand is great for building sandcastles and the water safe for swimming, do watch out for jellyfish as there are occasional sightings of some particularly venomous species!

fujairah free places to visit

If resort hotels aren’t your thing, it is also possible to camp on some sections of the beach in Al Aqah. Campsites are usually clearly marked and often have bins and picnic table facilities but don’t think you’ll find any sanitary blocks!

Diving & Snorkelling in Fujairah

From Al ‘Aqah beach and nearby Sandy Beach, it is possible to hire all sorts of sporting equipment. It’s definitely worth borrowing masks and snorkels to explore the marine life around Snoopy Island . You can swim to the island or take a small boat to within a few meters of the rock; here you are able to see turtles and squid as well as an array of fish and crustaceans!

Snoopy Island snorkelling and diving Al Aqah

For more experienced divers, there are plenty of excursions to the surrounding islands and reefs available. Al Boom Diving Centre based at Le Meridien offers guided dives and equipment hire as do a number of the other beach hotels. Khor Fakkan and Dibba a little further along the coast also offer excellent diving and snorkelling.

You can check out these diving tour options if you are looking to day trip from Dubai to Fujairah with a guided group.

Fishing in Fujairah

For people that prefer catching fish rather than swimming with them, Fujairah International Marine Club organises fishing trips and will cater to families. The fishing along Fujairah’s coast is considered the best in the UAE with an abundance of tuna, dorado and even marlin in the area.

Parasailing in Fujairah

Not many beaches in the UAE offer parasailing, but if this is your thing Khorfakkan Beach is the place to do it. Here you can also hire boats to take you to Coral Island for excellent diving and snorkelling or let the kids enjoy the many playgrounds and green spaces flanking the beach.

Other Fujairah Beaches

Other nice family beaches include;

  • Umbrella Beach –  less crowded than the resort hotel beaches near Snoopy Island, umbrella beach is the perfect place for peace and quiet and to work on that tan;
  • Sambraid Beach – a family beach with umbrellas and picnic tables, swings and slides; and
  • Dibba/Dadna Beach with shallow water, picnic areas, playgrounds and lots of seashells make this a great family beach!

Aqua Bounce at Fairmont Fujairah

Also located in Dibba is Aqua Bounce Fujairah , an inflatable waterpark offering an obstacle course with slides, bridges and a floating trampoline – great fun for those who don’t mind getting very wet! Access is complimentary for Fairmont hotel guests and payable at a rate of 75 AED per child and 150 AED for the general public. For more details click here .

Note that not all beaches have lifeguards so do exercise caution when swimming in these areas.

Of course, Fujairah has much more to offer than beaches, here’s the lowdown on cultural sites and educational opportunities for families visiting Fujairah:

Fujairah Fort

Fujairah Fort sits impressively on a hilltop overlooking the city with incredible views of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque (the second largest mosque in the UAE) and the city skyline behind. The fort was originally constructed in the 16 th Century as both a defensive fortress and family home for the ruler of the time.

The whole family will enjoy exploring the battlements and towers. There are, however, a lot of steps so perhaps leave the stroller in the car!

Al Hayl Fort (Castle)

The Al Hayl Fort is one of the best-preserved in the UAE and for the views alone – access is via a dirt track about 13 km southwest of the city and a 4×4 is definitely recommended!

Al Bithnah Fort

It is also worth visiting Al Bithnah Fort, once considered vital to the defence of the UAE’s eastern region and now a lovely spot for photos with the fort nestling between a date palm oasis and the mountains behind.

fujairah free places to visit

It’s always best to phone in advance to check that the forts are open to visitors and avoid any disappointment. In general hours of operation are from 9.30am until 6.30pm Saturday to Thursday and from 2pm until 6.30pm on Fridays, although they may be closed for long lunch breaks.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque

The second-largest mosque in the UAE is an architectural gem. Covering an area the size of three football pictures, the mosque has six minarets each 100 meters high and the great prayer hall has space for 32,000 worshippers.

Shiekh Zayed Mosque Fujairah

The mosque is not open to non-muslims but all visitors should make an effort to marvel at its beauty from afar.

Bidyah Mosque

Dating back to 1446 AD, this is quite possibly the oldest mosque in the UAE. The mosque, constructed of mud and stone, is tiny and whilst non-muslims are not allowed to enter it is possible to catch a peep of the interior through the doors. The mosque still hosts daily prayers and all visitors should dress modestly (women should cover their hair as well as their arms and legs) when entering the surrounding plaza.

ujairah Old Mosque and Fort

Within the mosque courtyard, there is a traditional well and a short hike up the hillside takes you to a watchtower – note that the route is not suitable for strollers or people with mobility issues. A large iron age tomb can also be found within the Islamic Graveyard just to the north of the mosque.

Bait Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamad Al Qasim

Technically in Sharjah, the former home of Sheikh Saeed and his family, built between 1998 and 1901, opened its doors as a museum in 1999. Here you can reflect on a number of Emirati architectural styles as well as viewing a beautiful collection of Islamic artefacts. Further details can be found here .

Bull Butting

Every Friday evening (around 5pm) you can catch a bull butting match towards the Kalba end of Fujairah’s corniche. Introduced to the region by Portuguese colonists in the 16 th Century. These matches are intended to show the strength of the animals rather than a fight to the death, but you might want to think twice about taking kids or animal lovers.

Hiking and wildlife spotting opportunities in Fujairah

Hiking in the mountains.

The dramatically craggy Hajar Mountains offer some of the country’s best hiking opportunities. The mountains are filled with wadis and waterfalls and offer a very different perspective of the UAE – as well as a physical challenge!

After building up a sweat, you might like to go for a refreshing dip at one of the spring-fed pools of Wadi Shees – some climbing is required so again this may not be suitable for very young children but great fun for older kids and teenagers.

True history lovers might also enjoy a trip to Wadi Saham to spot the ancient petroglyphs which date back more than 3000 years.

fujairah free places to visit

Using an organised tour provider is advisable as routes are occasionally closed; such closures have recently included Wadi Wurayah, one of the most popular wadis to hike. Tour providers can also assess individual family requirements as many of the routes are not suitable for small children and visitors with health issues. Guides can also offer advice during bad weather as it is prudent to remember that the flash flooding of wadis is the desert’s greatest killer!

Wildlife in the Mountains of Fujairah

Whilst you might spot some wildlife in the mountains for a guaranteed encounter with some of the UAE’s fluffier and more feathery residents if you visit the Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre and the Kalba Bird of Prey Centre (both technically in Sharjah).

Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre

The conservation centre is committed to preserving the flora and fauna of the region and currently houses more than thirty species, including Arabian Leopards and numerous snakes. Spread over a 12km site there are indoor exhibits along with outdoor enclosures.

There are golf carts available for families with small children and guests with mobility problems. Entry for adults 25 AED, closed on Mondays.  For more information and opening hours, click here .

Kalba Bird of Prey Centre

The Kalba Bird of Prey centre celebrates the Bedouin tradition of falconry which is still very popular today. The centre has free-flying demonstrations as well as aviaries housing owls, eagles, buzzards, vultures and falcons. Entry for adults 15AED, kids under 12 free. For further details click here .

You can learn more about the highlights of Kalba here.

Al Rafisah Dam

Also situated in the Hajar Mountains is Al Rafisah Dam, another beauty spot where you can spot wildlife, hire kayaks and pedal boats and enjoy a family picnic.

Al Rafisah Dam Sharjah - Fujairah enclave

Shopping & Other Family Entertainment in Fujairah

Shopping & indoor entertainment.

Should the weather force you inside there are a few malls in Fujairah City, the most notable of which is City Centre . Here you can find a Magic Planet entertainment centre with various amusements for the kids and an 11-screen cinema amongst a wide variety of shops and food outlets. Alternatively, you can try your hand at Go-Karting or Laser Tag at Kart & Shoot in Fujairah Mall .  You might also like to visit the Central Souk or Safeer Market for a full-on assault on the senses!

Parks in Fujairah

The Fujairah Fort with a mountainous backdrop

1. Visit the Fujairah Fort

Fujairah Fort is a must-visit historic site for anyone interested in the culture and heritage of the United Arab Emirates. Located just two minutes away from the Fujairah Museum, this impressive fort dates back to the 16th century and is the oldest and largest castle in the UAE.

Much of the rectangular fort is constructed from rock, gravel and mortar and its four towers are connected by inside doors and corridors. Mangrove poles provide support for the rest of the structure, while the roof is constructed from a combination of palm fronds and trunks.

Originally built to protect the city from invaders and colonial masters, Fujairah Fort stands as a symbol of the city’s resilience and strength. Between 1808 and 1810, the fort was seized by Wahabbists. Then,  the British navy demolished three of the fort's towers in 1925, leading to the abandonment of the structure. The fort was restored in the late 20th Century and opened to visitors in 2000.

Today, it serves as a proud heritage site that attracts tourists and locals alike. Exploring the four walls of the fort is a great activity for families, as the site is open to kids and offers an immersive experience that brings history to life.

Fujairah has some of the best snorkelling spots in the UAE, so get out into the water if you can. Snoopy Island and Reef Oasis are just a couple of places where you can see vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life.

The natural reefs have some impressive marine life. During our snorkelling trip, we saw magnificent sea turtles, graceful rays, various colourful fish species, and even some prickly sea urchins. It was one of the best snorkelling experiences of my life!

To make the most of your snorkelling experience, you need a sea scooter. This nifty piece of equipment will help you effortlessly navigate through the water and dive deeper than ever before.

Other popular snorkelling spots are Martini Rock, Sharm Rocks and Shark Island. Fujairah is also a great place for scuba diving with wrecks, healthy soft and hard corals and artificial reefs in addition to the tropical marine life.

Top 13 Places To Visit in Fujairah + Things To Do

places to visit in fujairah

After I traveled from Dubai to Ajman and wrote the article “ Places to visit in ajman for free “, I didn’t want to go back to Dubai, so I decided to go to Fujairah, which is 114 km from Ajman, to gather information for you.

The population of Fujairah is less than Ajman; it also has fewer facilities than Dubai; that’s why I couldn’t stay in this city for more than a week because after a week everything will be repetitive.

  • Places to visit in Fujairah

Ain al-Madhab hot spring

Al-bidya mosque, the beaches of fujairah, kalba corniche park, the hidden gem of fujairah, fujairah castle, other tourist places in fujairah, in conclusion.

Places to visit in Fujairah

During my trip to Fujairah, I tried to go to the most famous tourist places in this city. In the following, I intend to introduce the places to visit in Fujairah to tempt you to visit this city.

Ain al-Madhab hot spring

This spring is more like a physical therapy device than it is like a spring! At first, I could not believe it, but after sitting in this hot spring, I realized the secret of curing all back pains, knee pains, and others is this spring.

Ain al-Madhab hot springs are one of the interesting places in Fujairah, located on the slopes of the Hajar Mountains. This tourist attraction has separate bathrooms for men and women and is very suitable for relaxing and relieving pain in different parts of the body. Therefore, if you are in the city of Fujairah, I recommend you go to the hot springs of Ain al-Madhab to experience a relaxing break.

Al-Bidya Mosque

After you get out of the hot water, visit Al-Bidya Mosque, which is located on the same mountain as Hajar.

This name is known as this mosque because it is located in the village of Al-Bidya. This mosque is also known as the Ottoman Mosque, although it should not be confused with the Ottoman Empire that existed in Turkey.

Some experts there estimate the age of this building to be a thousand years before Islam. This historical site was investigated by the Fujairah Archaeological Center and the collaboration of the University of Sydney, Australia, from 1997 to 1998. The results of the archaeological research showed that the Al-Bidya Mosque was built in 1446.

Most people know the city of Fujairah for its historical places, and most of the travelers of this city are people who are interested in history. Still, next to these historical places, there are beaches that can take away all the tiredness of the trip.

Fujairah is the only city in the United Arab Emirates that does not have a beach along the Persian Gulf. The beaches of Fujairah are located in the east of the UAE and along the Gulf of Oman, which is known as one of the most places to visitin Fujairah.

The sandy beaches of this recreational attraction, along with the peaceful environment, extremely attractive and spectacular landscape, various water sports such as jet skiing and diving, cafes, lounges, pavilions, and stylish restaurants, have made many travelers spend long hours on the beaches of Fujairah.

If you like to see an amazing view from the beach of this city, I recommend going there at sunset.

The beaches of Fujairah location

Another famous place in Fujairah is the Kalba Corniche Park, which is known as the hidden gem of Fujairah.

When I heard this name, I was very curious to see what this park has that is called a hidden gem.

This park has every facility you can think of, and it is no less than Musharraf Park in Dubai . It is just a little smaller, and you cannot feel this difference at first glance.

It is good to know that the cafe, bicycle, camping area, etc., are among the important facilities of this park.

Kalba Corniche Park location

Fujairah Castle

Fujairah Castle was built in 1670 and was severely damaged after the British attack in the early 20th century. This castle is considered the oldest castle in the United Arab Emirates.

In the past, this castle was sometimes used as a defense building and sometimes as a residence of the ruling family.

For centuries, Fujairah Castle was the only stone building located on the beach of Fujairah. This castle included three main parts, several halls, a rectangular tower, and two towers. Fujairah Castle has been completely renovated in recent years.

Today, the area around this fort is part of the Fujairah Heritage Village, which the Fujairah Archeology and Heritage Organization built.

Fujairah Castle location

Snoopy Island

One of the last places to visit in Fujairah that I am going to introduce is Snoopy Island. First of all, the name of this island attracts a lot of attention.

Snoopy Island is located in the Indian Ocean near Oman. Because this island is very similar to the cartoon character named Snoopy, it is called Snoopy.

The area around Snoopy Island has a unique view of rocks, beaches, and luxury residences. You can gain new experiences and engage in water sports on this island. You can also visit shipwrecks, natural caves, etc., while diving.

If you are interested in this island, it is better to read the article “ Snoopy island entry fee “.

Other tourist places in Fujairah

The number of tourist places in Fujairah is large, so I will only list their names below so that you can research them if you are interested, and if you have any information about them, share it with other users in the comments section.

  • Bithnah Fort
  • Hajar mountain valley
  • Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Fujairah
  • Fujairah Museum
  • Awhala Fort
  • Al Aqah Beach, Fujairah

Another important feature of this city was the travel costs. I realized on my trip to Fujairah that Dubai is more expensive than other small cities in the UAE. The reason is quite clear: the high number of tourists.

Therefore, don’t worry about the costs during your trip to Fujairah because you can use the best facilities in this city with the lowest cost.

The last thing I want to say at the end of this article is that, since this city is less touristy than Dubai, the people of this city are a bit more traditional, so try to dress appropriately and follow the local people’s opinions and don’t insult Islam.

Places To Visit In Fujairah For Free

fujairah free places to visit

Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates is a modern industrial town with little to see and do for tourists.

Fujairah is a key hub for trade, business, and industry, making it one of the best locations to visit in the UAE without spending a dime.

Its natural beauty and distinctive architecture make it a favorite vacation spot. Fujairah’s beaches provide a low-cost way to unwind, soak up some rays, and become acquainted with the local region.

Visiting one of Fujairah’s many beaches or wandering the city on foot are the two top ways to get a feel for the city.

In this post, we will acknowledge the places to visit in Fujairah for free.

Table of Contents

For those seeking some rays in the Emirate of Fujairah, Al Aqah is the place to go, with its expansive beach along the coast and its views of the Gulf of Oman dominated by the rocky outcrop of Snoopy Island.

Al Aqah, located 45 kilometers north of Fujairah city, is one of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) less-developed resort locations, with just a scattering of five-star hotels bordering the beachfront; however, far more development is planned for the future.

It’s still the best option for a peaceful beach getaway away from the hustle and bustle of Dubai.

The beach resort hotels that dot the coast here are perfect for sunbathers and those interested in water activities since many have their diving centers, snorkeling areas, and paddleboard rentals.

Although the reefs immediately offshore in the Gulf of Oman are not as spectacular as those in the Middle East’s famous Red Sea, there is still enough marine life to view.

Al Aqah is the diving epicenter of the United Arab Emirates.

Al-Bidyah Mosque

The mud-brick structure is located around 35 kilometers north of Fujairah city.

The village of Al-Bidyah gave its name to the earliest mosque in what is now the United Arab Emirates.

Significant for their time, the engineering details are impressive.

The mosque has an arched prayer hall with ventilation slots and a mihrab for worship.

The interior is divided into four equal-sized squares by a central pillar and topped with domes.

Excavations in the area immediately adjacent to the mosque have uncovered evidence of human habitation dating back at least four thousand years.

A gigantic tomb from the Iron Age was discovered in a major Islamic cemetery to the north, revealing pottery shards, metal arrowheads, or other artifacts from at least 1000 BCE.

The Lulu Mall, conveniently located in the middle of Fujairah, is another place to go that doesn’t cost anything.

People from all over the area and beyond go here to do some serious retail therapy.

Rapid service for food orders is also offered. Visitors looking for quick and tasty meals can choose from various pizza, Indian, and Shawarma alternatives.

There is a specialty ice cream shop at the mall that offers over twenty different varieties.

The retail establishments offering fashionable and reasonably priced apparel and accessories are second to none.

Fujairah Fort

The British severely attacked Fujairah Fort, which had been standing since its construction in 1670, in the early 20th century.

The oldest fort in the UAE has been used as a stronghold and a residence for the royal dynasty.

There hadn’t been any other stone structures on the shore of Fujairah for generations.

The fort’s structure consists of three main wings, multiple halls, a square tower, & two circular towers.

Its original splendor has been entirely restored in recent years.

Fujairah’s Directorate of Archaeology and Heritage has established a modest Heritage Village in the area immediately surrounding the fort.

The Al Yazrah irrigation system, utilized by Emirati farmers, is on display here, along with reconstructed traditional dwellings and displays depicting traditional life.

Friday market

Both tourists and residents go to the Fujairah Friday market each week.

It is between the Hajar Mountains and the major road leading to Fujairah town.

Clothing, spices, and even food are just some of the customary products on sale at the market.

Anytime tourists go to a destination with a genuine Arabian flair for shopping or leisure, they are guaranteed a warm welcome.

It’s a great spot to spend a Saturday or Sunday looking for something to brighten your day.

Snoopy Island

It’s no surprise that Snoopy Island is now a popular destination for gatherings of all kinds.

The distinctive rock on the island, which resembles the cartoon figure Snoopy while he lies on his back, inspires the island’s name.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are two of the most common water sports here. Gorgeous reefs teaming with shoals of marine life encircle the region, and visitors may even occasionally see turtles and small sharks.

The island hosts an advanced PADI diving course that lasts for four days.

In addition to water sports, guests at Sandy Beach Resort may also enjoy relaxing in one of the numerous beachfront villas or pitching a tent and grilling out.

Snorkeling is an activity that may be done in any body of water and does not need any prior experience.

Snorkeling among the reefs and corals at Snoopy Island is a fun experience, even for a novice swimmer.

Take a bike ride past the resort to the beach, rent a kayak if you can locate one, or borrow some snorkel gear and swim to Snoopy Island.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque

The contemporary Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah is the size of 3 football fields and features six minarets that rise 100 meters into the air.

This massive prayer hall can accommodate up to 32,000 people.

The classic Ottoman-style mosque opened in 2015 and has become one of Fujairah’s most recognizable landmarks.

It is the second largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates, behind only Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

From 9 AM and 12 PM, Saturday through Thursday, non-Muslims are welcome to enter the mosque and take in its gorgeous interior, which has huge chandeliers and Moorish-style arches. At this time, tours of the mosque are provided at no cost.

Overall, Fujairah is an undiscovered treasure in the United Arab Emirates, offering many activities and sights that won’t break the bank for visitors.

The Al Badiyah Mosque, Fujairah Fort, Wadi Wurayah, and the Hajar Mountains are just a few of the free or low-cost attractions available to tourists interested in exploring the region’s rich history and vibrant culture.

Everyone may find what they’re looking for in Fujairah, whether it’s a place to go on exciting excursions, learn about the local culture, or relax on a stunning beach.

15 must-see metro Detroit attractions everyone should visit once

So you're looking to explore Detroit. You've heard about us. Bad things. Good things. You want to see for yourself.

Whether you're visiting from out of town or seeking new experiences in your own backyard, the region has a lot to offer. Some of it is concentrated right in downtown Detroit, but most of it is not.

We've got world-class museums, historic landmarks, architectural gems — and some wonderfully weird destinations.

Here's a sampling of favorites, compiled by Detroit Free Press entertainment writers:

Motown Museum

The birthplace of Motown isn't just one of Detroit's most identifiable landmarks — it's one of the most iconic music sites on the globe. Berry Gordy was confident and farsighted in 1959 when he named his home office and studio Hitsville, U.S.A., launching a musical empire that turned young homegrown talent into superstars: Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops, the Jackson 5 and many more. These days, the site at 2648 West Grand Blvd. is preserved in its '60s charm as the Motown Museum, including the famed Studio A, where Motown's artists and musicians made music that transformed American culture. Tickets often sell out well in advance, but even if you can't book an official tour, a trip is worthwhile. Visitors descend daily onto the Hitsville grounds, where a new public plaza is part of the museum's ongoing $65 million expansion. More at motownmuseum.org .

Belle Isle State Park

Belle Isle State Park, a 982-acre island park accessible via the MacArthur Bridge about 4 miles east of downtown Detroit, offers scenic views of the Detroit skyline and the Canadian city of Windsor across the Detroit River. The park is home to several attractions, including the Belle Isle Aquarium , the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory , the Dossin Great Lakes Museum , the James Scott Memorial Fountain, and the Belle Isle Nature Center . Visitors can also enjoy a golf course , picnicking, hiking, biking, fishing, birdwatching, playgrounds and a beach.

The lively Greektown Historic District on the eastern edge of downtown Detroit is a bustling hub of entertainment and culture. Its Victorian-era commercial streetscape is adorned with a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bakeries serving authentic Greek cuisine alongside other dining options. Greektown is known for its vibrant nightlife scene with numerous bars and clubs where people gather for live music, dancing and socializing. The neighborhood is also home to the Hollywood Casino at Greektown , adding to its allure as an entertainment destination. Greektown preserves its historic charm with historic buildings, churches, and landmarks that reflect the neighborhood’s rich past and architectural heritage. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Mexicantown

Located in southwest Detroit near the Ambassador Bridge to Canada, Mexicantown is a lively neighborhood and business district known for its cuisine and tight-knit community spirit. Anchoring a vibrant Detroit Hispanic community, its primary strip of restaurants, bakeries, shops and cultural institutions along Bagley Street serves as a gateway into the broader southwest Detroit community, where authentic Mexican and Central American traditions, celebrations and cuisine abound.

Sanders Chocolate & Ice Cream Shop – Clinton Township

Experience a slice of Detroit’s history at this Michigan classic that will tantalize your taste buds with the sweet aroma of chocolate. This nostalgic haven filled with Sanders desserts will evoke memories of childhood days gone by. Indulge in Sanders’ iconic treats, including its traditional chocolate sauces, cookies, cakes and, of course, ice cream for those famous cream puffs. As you explore this nostalgic haven, stroll down a long hallway with a glass window where you can watch workers on the assembly line creating chocolate delights during select times. 23770 Hall Road in Clinton Township.

The Rosa Parks Bus

The Henry Ford Museum, 20900 Oakwood Blvd. in Dearborn, is packed with exhibits and objects that bring history to life, but one acquisition stands out as a key moment in the life of the civil rights icon who spent her later years in the Motor City. The Rosa Parks Bus is the public transportation vehicle where Parks, a Black seamstress and dedicated activist, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on Dec. 1, 1955. The resulting Montgomery Bus Boycott in Alabama was a key successful effort in the movement to end the South's segregation laws. Visitors can learn about the courage of Parks and sit inside the place where she became a global icon for freedom and equality.

Boston-Edison Historic District

Once you've soaked up the architecture of downtown Detroit, take a drive to the 36 blocks and over 900 homes that make up one of the biggest residential historic districts in the nation. With its spacious boulevards and magnificent houses, many constructed a century or more ago, the Boston-Edison District has been home to some of the biggest names in the city's history, from labor leader Walter Reuther to boxing champ Joe Louis and music mogul Berry Gordy Jr. Today, the neighborhood still represents the visual splendor and inclusivity of Detroit at its best.

Tour Detroit's Eastern Market

Detroit's Eastern Market is the oldest farmers market in Michigan, dating to 1891. At the long-standing market, you can enjoy some of the season's best fresh produce from area farmers and take in the many specialty shops and restaurants. Eastern Market is open Saturdays year-round, drawing large crowds for local produce and its annual Flower Day, which takes place in May. Be sure to check out DeVries & Co. 1887, a specialty cheese shop with plenty of other specialty food and retail items. From DeVries, you can buzz next door to Vivio’s and sip on one of its specialty Bloody Marys and order a dish of its famous mussels. For information, go to easternmarket.org .

Bar hop in Royal Oak

Despite the traffic, despite the crowds, there's a definite reason bar-hopping in suburban downtown Royal Oak remains popular, and it's the number of superior bars and restaurants located along the celebrated Main Street drag. Tom's Oyster Bar is a must, but don't skip any of the spots along the path, on either side of the street. And don't feel deterred if the crowd is much younger than you — Royal Oak tends to draw people in their 20s. Just vibe right alongside them.

Experience live jazz at Cliff Bell's

Dating to the 1930s, legendary jazz club Cliff Bell's, 2030 Park Ave., has hosted many of the world's most celebrated musicians, some even in the early phases of their careers. It now presents live music five nights a week in its gorgeous time capsule of an interior. A dedicated parking lot directly across the street makes for easy access, and no matter who's playing, the music is always top-notch.

Get a drink at the Highlands

Nestled on the 71st and 72nd floors of downtown Detroit's iconic Renaissance Center is a bar that gives the best and most complete view of the region: The Highlands, 400 Renaissance Center. Make special plans and take a special elevator that goes all the way to the top of the RenCen for a glamorous evening with the glittering backdrops of Detroit and Windsor, Ontario for your cocktail experience. It's an experience that must be had at least once.

Eat a coney dog downtown

One thing to know — Detroiters choose sides. Downtown, you're either a Lafayette Coney Island fan, or an American Coney Island regular. (It's made more confusing by the fact that they're both on Lafayette Boulevard, next door to each other.) While there are many, many coney dog locations throughout the region, these are the two downtown staples that have weathered the years to serve millions. 114 and 118 W. Lafayette Blvd.

The Grosse Pointes and the Nautical Mile

A drive along Lake Shore Road from the War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms to the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores is the quintessential Grosse Pointe experience. Heading east, you’ll encounter spectacular views of Lake St. Clair to your right, stately homes and mansions to your left and, ahead in the distance, the bell tower of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. Continue east past the Ford House and you’ll arrive in St. Clair Shores and its celebrated Nautical Mile, home to a bountiful catch of restaurants offering fish, seafood and tables overlooking the water.

Sindbad's Restaurant and Marina

This family-owned establishment at 100 St. Clair St. in Detroit is more than just a restaurant and bar. It’s a mainstay of the city’s east side — launched by a pair of brothers-in-law in 1949 and still in the hands of founding family members. Adding to its appeal is its location just off Jefferson Avenue at the site of a Prohibition-era speakeasy. With the Detroit River lapping at its back door, Sindbad’s set out to be a spot for boaters to eat and drink while on the water, and it continues to live up to its founders’ vision. Parties of hungry sailors regularly stop by and make use of its boat wells and marina during outings on the river and Lake St. Clair. For 75 years, the restaurant has been making good on its commitment to serve “good, basic food in generous quantity” via a menu that includes, scallops, pickerel, Great Lakes perch, steaks and sandwiches.

4 teams, 3 stadiums, all downtown

Detroit is the only city in the nation that has teams in all four major American sports that play within blocks of each other. The Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings keep sports fans engaged and cheering at Comerica Park, Ford Field and Little Caesars Arena, all downtown and all worth a visit whether or not a game is scheduled.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of metro Detroit's greatest attractions. Share your favorite destinations with arts and culture reporter Duante Beddingfield, [email protected], and stay tuned for Part 2.
