Just like peeling an onion, this movie had so many different layers: in content and in impact. Every layer deeper than the next and without ever loosing that reality aspect.

The Visit tells the story of two couples that are neighbors in one building. The downstairs couple, The Nebos, consist of Chidi and Eugenia (played by Femi Jacobs and Bayray McNwizu). They are a couple out of a prim and proper magazine and their home is the true model for “there’s a place for everything and everything in its place”. Meanwhile the upstairs couple is the complete antecedent, The Shagayas ( note that word play though lol ). The Shagayas, Lanre and Ajiri (played by Blossom Chukwujekwu and Nse Ikpe-Etim) are a disorderly bunch. Their home is less like a home and more like a parking garage to filth. They are noisy and unkempt to the n-th degree and this bugs Eugenia completely. One day, they have a sit down and secrets begin to unravel.

The first 20 to 30 minutes of this movie is wasted time. If I was not aware of the greatness that was coming in this movie ( based on fate in the actors, fore knowledge of the movie and word of mouth from other viewers ), I would have given up in those minutes. It took too long for the characters to be set up and it was dragging and point blank boring.

But then the visit happens and it really blows your mind. The intense and fabulous chemistry between all the actors in this movie is unparalleled. While watching the making video for this movie, one of the actors mention that they all helped each other. They all helped to build their fellow actors up when they needed that push in a scene and you see that. One does not rise in spite of the other, each of them elevate each other.

On the one side we have the waffi blowing Ajiri. Nse pulls out all stops and flows effortlessly from the queen’s English to gutter slinging waffi in seconds without missing a beat. Yet her mannerisms still manage to be to die for regardless of what face she’s putting on. Next, Femi just owns every version of Chidi there is. From when he is the innocent and tamed shrew of a husband to when he transforms and tries to hide his deepest darkest secrets from his wife.

Then we have Blossom whose character we really truly watch crumble in stature from a macho man to just another man, and he embodies that from stage to stage. Finally there is Bayray who manages to evoke something that the script never truly says explicitly:  which is that Bayray’s character is cray-cray and might actually need a shrink.

From female mutilation to drug trafficking and cultism to alcoholism and deep psychological disorders (I mean what else do you call a spirit that causes you to redesign your life and live a completely false one). The movie even touches on marital support and marital partnership, the importance of openness and the realities of openness. It delves into individual psyches and the concept of building up a false life to build ones own image: for self? Or for society? ( or I might just be a nerd overthinking things ). I even see some underlying tones of marital roles when Lanre sends his wife places and she is bargaining with him. It’s interesting. Is this a psychologically abusive relationship or are wife and husband just on cue as to when one needs to step back for the other.

The movie is funny yet enlightening. Simple yet with overwhelming depth. Light but so heavy and I dare you to forget this movie tomorrow morning.

Regardless of all that, it’s not without its flaws ( lol… I know you saw this one coming ). If there’s one aspect of this movie that I would really love to resurrect it would be the audio. And ‘yes’, it is clear that the makers caught on to this early and therefore decided to subtitle this entire movie with extreme detail ( for which we are grateful ). Another not so great quality of the movie is the video quality. It is clear that the movie could have been much clearer, a bit more vivid and used better lighting.

But the flaws, asides from the overstretched beginning, are not deterrents enough. I can say this now, I will probably be watching this movie again sooner than later.

Seven & A Half Dates

The movie entirely too long. The director or editor is an amateur and did not know the shots needed to make certain points made by the writer. Nse could not stay in character long enough. This was just a series of reveals cheaply done with talk talk talk. I would have loved to see some flashbacks.

How this writer would regard the first 30 minutes of this film as “a waste of time’ is beyond me. Without those first few minutes, the entire story falls apart. We will fail to understand and appreciate the world of difference these two family existed in. Nse-Ekpe Etim’s character would loose all credibility as a knowledgeable person with an “I don’t care attitude.” The first 30 minutes provided the stage for the willing suspension of disbelief that this was just acting when the “visit” actually happened. But, yueah, I agree, it’s indeed a 9/10 and an example for other movies to emulate.

The Visit, which is produced by Biodun Stephens , directed by Funke Fayoyin , and executive produced by Koga Entertainment will be in cinemas across Nigeria from October 16.

Spanning one day, with different events that make up A Wedding Party showcasing themselves, the already married couple, “Banky W and Adesua Etomi,” brings this comedy movie to life. 

Bringing to life an intercultural marriage of two tribes that do not see eye to eye. This movie shows how two younglings in love navigate their way to get married despite their tribal differences. You should see it too; it is worth the watch.

Released in 2019, Sugar Rush is an action comedy movie starring the Sugar sisters (Bimbo Ademoye, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, and Bisola Aiyeola). The movie shows the Sugar sisters claiming some money in the apartment of a chief who had invited them earlier for a party at his.

Problems begin when the mafia claims the money, as well as the head of EFCC, Anikulapo’s wife, and Anikulapo himself (the most feared man in the land). It is a must-watch, so you should add it to your watchlist.

Phone Swap aired in 2012 and starred Nse Ekpe-Etim and Wale Ojo as its lead. It is a romance comedy movie that portrays the disturbances and struggles when a struggling fashion designer and an arrogant businessman’s phones are swapped at the airport.

Their lives take different turners as each begins to navigate the other person’s life. All these they navigate as it brings them closer to one another, and they eventually fall in love. It’s a must-watch that you should add to your list for a relaxed evening.

Released in 2018, Kasala revolves around a young boy (Tunji – Emeka Nwagbaraocha) growing up in a slum alongside his friends. They have a party to attend and Tunji decides to borrow a car his uncle (a mechanic) is working on to attend the party.

Things quickly go south when one of his friends bashes the car, and they have five hours to raise the money to repair the vehicle before he gets back. They navigate fights, harassment, and jungle justice all in one day. 

Tired? This is the perfect movie to unwind.

Chief daddy

This popular blockbuster was aired in 2018, starring amazing actresses such as Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Joke Silva, Shaffy Bello, and the late veteran actress Racheal Oniga.

Chief Daddy shows the death of a billionaire industrialist and philanthropist who had many mistresses and suddenly passed on, leaving his family to fight and cause a stir as regards the splitting of his properties and inheritance. 

This fight spills into the burial arrangement as different attires from different parties. It’s a must-watch that deserves a place on your watch list.

My village people

Famous comedian Bovi Ugboma starred in this comedy movie that aired in 2021. With Charles Inojie, Bovi Ugboma, and Amaechi Muonagor as lead roles.

My Village People shows the life of Prince (Bovi Ugboma), who has a weakness for women; it eventually lands him in trouble as he finds himself entangled with marine spirits and witches. A love triangle?

He struggles to break free as he runs helter-skelter to find help and let loose the marine spirit after him. A thriller comedy movie! A must-watch!

Your excellency

Your Excellency was released in 2019, a political comedy genre that stars Akin Lewis (Olalekan Ajadi), a political aspirant with Donald Trump, as his role model. His wife, Funke Akindele, proudly supports her husband as his backbone and would do anything for him, so far, it is legal and get him in the seat of power.

Although he was a failed presidential candidate, just as his political career was on another flop way, he was appointed by a majority political party, where he became a notable contender with the assistance of social media.

Regardless of its airing date, a must-watch still raking in numbers in the movie industry.

The razz guy

Released in 2021, Razz Guy tells the story of a condescending executive and boss (Lasisi Elenu) who is eloquent and comported. But when an international business merger approaches, he is faced with a crisis when a cleaner at his place of work places a curse on him, causing him to lose his eloquence. 

The movie shows the arrogant and high-handed senior executive who earns himself a curse because he was condescending just as he was about to close a major deal that would benefit his firm. 

He must either find a way to lift the curse and secure the deal or resign from his job with immediate effect. Color your weekend with this comedy movie!

A naija christmas

Starring the late veteran actress Racheal Oniga and her three sons Kunle Remi, Abayomi Alvin, and Efa Iwara. A Naija Christmas was released in 2021 and belongs to the comedy genre. It explains a mother’s dying wish to her sons to bring home a wife and grandchildren. She later offers her Ikoyi residence as an inheritance as a reward for the first son who can fulfill her wishes. 

This new development pushes the sons to reconnect with their lost loves, meet new ones, and create new bonds that eventually set them up for love and beautiful journeys ahead of them. 

You should take some time this weekend to watch as they navigate the storm of love, friendship, and brotherhood.

The merry men

Set in Abuja and released in 2018, The Merry Men is a Nigerian action comedy movie that shows four wealthy businessmen (Ramsey Noah, Ayo Makun, Jim Iyke, and Folarin Falana “Falz”) who look out for rich businesswomen to seduce and steal from the wealthy elite and give to the poor and have sex with the hottest women in town.

They face their biggest accomplishment when they face a political guru who plans to demolish an entire village to build a mall. These four men plan and scheme to save the poor villagers from the plans of the political guru.

This is a popular movie that has raked in numbers and has two sequels that were released after it. You should check it out.

"It's Against The Law": Nigerian Lady Downloads Movie in Germany, Her Husband Pays Fine of €1200

• She said she used her husband's phone to download one movie on a website, and her husband was fined €1200
• Some people in her comment section said a similar thing happened to someone they know in Germany

A Nigerian lady resident in Germany said she saw a random movie online, and she decided to download it.

However, she said she was not aware that it was illegal for one to randomly download copyrighted movies from websites in Germany.

The lady, Priceless Munachimso , said she used her husband's phone to download the movie.

Days later, she said that her husband was contacted, and he was asked to pay a fine of €1200 (over N1.5 million).

Munachimso shared her story on TikTok, where some people said a similar thing happened to someone they know.

She captioned the video:

"Downloading movies, games, books and music in Germany is against the law. Just avoid torrent downloads."

Is it illegal to download movies in Germany?

Legit.ng checked online to see if the law exists in Germany, and there are snippets of information that suggest it does.

"When you torrent movies, your IP address is visible to others. Some law firms monitor torrents of famous movies, and collect the IP addresses of people who download them. If they see your IP address, they can ask your ISP to give them your real address. They can send you an Abmahnung: a formal request to pay them between €500 and €1,500."

"German laws concerning file-sharing are pretty strict and clearly condemn any kind of file sharing activity related to copyrighted content. Those German law firms sending warning letters usually hire specialized third-party services that are scanning P2P nodes and clients, recording IP adresses that are currently downloading illegally in Germany. They are then authorized by law to ask your internet provider in Germany to disclose any information linked to that IP adress. This is how they obtained your private details."
