• Page 30 1-1. Hybrid system Hybrid system Your vehicle is a hybrid vehicle. It has characteristics different from conventional vehicles. Be sure you are closely familiar with the char- acteristics of your vehicle, and operate with care. The hybrid system combines a gasoline engine and an electric motor (traction motor) according to driving conditions, improving fuel efficiency and reducing exhaust emissions.

The PRECISION CRUISE CONTROL TOYOTA AURIS is an Original Equipment quality, retrofit Cruise Control System. This particular system is compatible with the following vehicles:

          Toyota Auris Petrol, Diesel & Hybrid Models   2007 - 2018

PRECISION CRUISE is a retrofit electronic cruise control system that provides all the functionality and convenience of Original Equipment systems, along with many enhanced features. This unit comes pre-programed for your specific vehicle and the full vehicle compatibility list can be found under the compatibility tab above.

Luxury and Convenience

Our PRECISION CRUISE Control Systems take all the stress and frustration out of long distance travelling. Simply activate the Cruise Control and remove your foot from the accelerator pedal for a much smoother and more comfortable driving experience. Should you wish to increase or decrease your speed to suit driving conditions or traffic flow speeds, the cruise control provides the option to increase or decrease your speed by pressing the respective button on the cruise control arm.

Dual Memory Settings

The PRECISION CRUISE Control System features the ability to preset two Cruise speeds in the Cruise memory. This enables you to drive at your most commonly used cruise speeds at the touch of a button, without having to drive to the desired speed first.

Original Equipment Quality Equipment

All of our Cruise Contol Equipment is OE Quality and comes complete with a 'Plug n Play' Pedal Harness to reduce Installation time and cost. Our Universal Cruise Arm (pictured) is an OE Quality Cruise Arm with all the required functionality and performance of original equipment systems. However, there is also the option on certain vehicles to incorporate the Original Equipment Cruise Control Switch for an even more professional installation.

Independent Speed Limiting

The Cruise Control also features the option of setting an Independent Speed Limit. This is controlled via the Universal Cruise Arm and can be activated to prevent the driver from speeding in areas where speed limit restrictions are enforced. The Cruise control can still be used independently below this limit. Please note that this facility is not available on vehicles where the Original Equipment Cruise Switch has been installed.

Reduces the Risk of Speeding Fines

Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of speed cameras and police surveillance equipment on the roads. Using the PRECISION CRUISE enables the driver to mainatain a safe (and legal) speed limit without the worry of being penalised.

Driving Optimisation and Fuel Saving

When the Cruise Control is activated, the vehicle speed is regulated more than 50 times per second, optimising driving performance. This in turn can also reduce fuel and transportation costs without comprimising vehicle performance.

DIY: Aftermarket cruise control install

Excellent DIY! So this mod except for disconnecting the pos (+) side of the battery, moving the green wire does not involve any fuses or electrical work and should be a plug in to an CE, LE, etc? What about danger of activating the airbag even with the battery disconnected? Thank you.  

jkg065 - No fuses. Transfering the green wire is the only electrical work. It is plug and play on the CE (that is what I have). I am 99% sure it is plug and play on the LE too. As far as the airbag is concerned, I am pretty certain that disconnecting the battery eliminates the danger of the airbag activating - but not 100% sure. Maybe someone else on TN with more knowledge can chime in on this point. To be certain, you could call your local Toyota dealership and ask them. I think the LE comes equipt with Cruise on it already (the XRS does). But I bet it will work on the S if it's not equipt with it. It's wierd how you couldn't change the speed with the stalk...  

Exage - Do you have OEM cruise? If so, is it equipped with the Accel/Decel feature. I actually use that a feature a lot on the Camry and it would be nice to have on the Corolla too. EDIT: I discovered today the Rock Auto cruise control switch does have the Accel/Decel feature. It is just not marked on the stalk.

DO NOT work on the airbag until 90 seconds after disconnecting the battery!  

I found the Toyota cruise control switch priced from $93.60-$98.73 + shipping on the web. So RockAuto IS a deal with the included discount. Thanks to dz63, Slaander, and any others for the DIY's.  

As far as I recall, the cruise control switch used as part of this DIY is the same as the switch that came from the factory on my '07 LE. It doesn't say "RES / ACC", it just says "+ RES" and "- SET". I don't know when they changed, but that switch is the same as the OE switch for the 2007 model year.  

So the RockAuto one does not have to be "turned on" after initially tapping your brakes, say cruising at 70 mph? The factory one has the automatic resume where you just accelerate without touching the switch stalk, Thanks JasonA.  

It shouldn't. Whether the switch is a Rockauto switch or an OEM Toyota switch, shouldn't make any difference. The brains of the operation are performed by the car's ECU. The switch should have an "on/off" button at the end of the stalk. You should be able to pull it towards you, for "cancel". And you should be able to push it up or down. The up/down activity will depend on the situation. If your cruise is already engaged, pressing it up will tap you up one MPH. Pressing it down will tap you down one MPH. If your cruise is not already engaged, pressing up should have no effect, but pressing down will set the cruise speed. Again, all the switch does is tell the computer what input you're requesting. The functionality is controlled by the ECU. You could replace the stalk end with a piece of PVC pipe, and all the functionality would still exist (well, except for the on/off button).

aftermarket cruise control hey, do you think this will work on a european corolla as well? i drive a corolla e12 1.4 d4d hatchback from 2005. (facelift model)  

Hello andyke, I suspect that it might not work on a European Corolla. Here's what I would recommend... If you have "drive by wire" throttle on your 2005 Corolla, ask at your local Toyota dealership for the Toyota OEM part number for the cruise control stalk and also ask them if it is a simple "plug and play" installation. If so, let me know the OEM part number for the cruise control stalk for your car, I will call my local Toyota dealership and ask for the Toyota OEM number for my 2008 Corolla cruise control stalk. If my local dealership gives me the exact same OEM part number as you receive from your Toyota dealership, then you can be certain that this procedure will work and you can use the $38 cruise control stalk. My 2008 Corolla was made in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. dz63  

I inquired with the Toyota Parts dept in Honolulu with what I was told was the Toyota part #84630-02041 and was told that has been superseded by #84630-20151 at $151.35. This was for my '08 Corolla CE but is on hold right now as I am awaiting arrival of other items out of Michigan. I will likely be purchasing from RockAuto at a later date if their switch will work as described by JasonA. Thanks also, Slaander!

Yes, you'll need a clutch switch. It mounts to the top of the clutch pedal, and is apparently plug-and-play (like the cruise control switch). I think Rock Auto sells it also, but I'm not positive.  

They are two switches. The brake switch will turn on the brake lights. On an automatic car, I'm sure the cruise uses the same switch to disengage the cruise. On a manual car, the brake switch is probably also used to disengage the cruise (I don't know, I never tried that), but there also needs to be a clutch switch to disengage it.  

Probably the same thing. My '93 manual had the dealer/port added option which looks like the Rostra aftermarket one There are 2 clutch switches but only one is for the cruise. The factory switch is by the floor which is the clutch interlock for starting the car and the cruise one sits just like the brake light switch but is only 2 wires. It threads in and has a lock nut so you can adjust it. Sorry no part numbers were listed on it. The brake would disengage the cruise as well as just by tapping the clutch pedal (as if you were going to shift gears would do that. My '07 Hyundai Sonata 5 speed, same operations.

Order #1868947 from RockAuto, Cedar Rapids IA. Shipped 6/17/2009 arrived via USPS 6/19/2009. I won't be installing DD1 D1919E until after 7/4/2009. Corolla is on loan until then to family members vacationing from Fresno/Sanger, CA!  

Cruise control completed! Airbag screws took about 40 mins to remove due to 3 plastic internal tabs that are used as screw guides for R & R. Found it easier to work on the side of the steering wheel where the cutout will be made if it is facing up, 12 O'clock. I used a Dremel tool w/cutoff wheel to rough cut the required opening on the steering wheel cover while standing at the open driver side door looking down through the windshield. I had an assistant sit in the drivers seat to prevent the steering wheel from moving. If interested, Lowe's had "HILLMAN Self Drill Screws, Stainless HWH, #10 x 1/2". 10 in a bag, 2 required for mounting the switch. The hex head is 5/16", Lot # HO 1540575, H#881836, Bar Code 0 08236 72227 7 (all numbers no letters). No need for a tap & die set! Thanks to all for leading the way!

Yeah, JasonA, your breakdown on the functions of the switch was the icing on the cake! I really thought the stalk itself was supposed to be more descriptive! The past month has been productive with the DIY intermittent windshield wiper switch & Visual Garage Shark Fin Antenna to replace the vandalized OEM one. Adaptive cruise control supplements conventional cruise control with an active vehicle-to-vehicle distance control feature. Designed for use on freeways and express ways, in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, your car automatically accelerates or decelerates in order to maintain a preset following distance from the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you.

To activate the system, press the "ON/OFF" button at the end of the stalk on the lower end of the right side of the steering wheel. The radar-ready indicator will appear in the Multi Information Display.

Accelerate or decelerate to your intended speed, then press the stalk down to set it. If you want to go faster, push the stalk upward and hold until you've reached the desired speed and then release it. Or, if you want to slow down, push the stalk down and hold as you decelerate, then release it once you've reached the desired speed.

To cancel cruise control, tap the brakes, pull the stalk towards you or turn the system off with the ON/OFF button.

Adaptive Cruise Control was designed to maintain the preset distance between your car and the car driving in the same lane directly ahead of you.

When it’s active, it automatically adjusts for changes in the speed of the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you in order to maintain the vehicle-to-vehicle distance you set.

In the event that you would like to change the preset distance between vehicles, you can do so by using the radar range button located on the lower right side of the steering wheel. Simply press the button repeatedly to cycle through the ranges available. You'll find them displayed on the Multi Information Display. And finally, you can disable the distance holding feature by pushing the cruise control stalk away and holding it until the indicator disappears and the conventional cruise control indicator lights up.

The toyota auris is a solid and sensible family runaround, that's practical, reliable and offers competitive running costs.

The  Toyota Auris may not be the most exciting family hatchback that money can buy, but it is a practical and dependable choice. Solidly built, generously equipped and backed by a five-year warranty, the Auris appeals to the head rather than heart - buyers wanting upmarket glamour or the ultimate driving thrills should look to the VW Golf and Ford Focus instead. A limited engine line-up also restricts the Toyota’s appeal, although the petrol/electric hybrid version promises supermini-rivaling running costs.

Our choice: 1.4 D-4D TR 5dr

Engines, performance and drive

Light controls and decent visibility make the Auris easy to drive, but it lacks the flair and fun of the Ford Focus. The Toyota also suffers from a limited engine line-up, with only the smooth 1.33-litre and 1.6-litre petrols, plus an economical but slow 1.4-litre diesel to choose from. All units are mated to a slick six-speed manual, with the option of six-speed auto on the larger petrol and diesel. There’s also the HSD hybrid, which uses the same 1.8-litre petrol and electric motor combination as Toyota’s bigger Prius. It’s relaxing to drive and runs near-silent in electric mode at low speeds, but lacks the punchy performance and excellent fuel returns of the VW Golf Bluemotion.

MPG, CO2 and Running Costs

Even the diesel-engined Auris fails to shine in the fuel economy stakes. Despite its small size and lowly 89bhp power output, the D-4D unit returns only 58.9mpg and emits a surprisingly high 128g/km of CO2 – figures that are easily beaten by a VW Golf 1.6 TDI. Still, the Auris HSD hybrid dips well below the 100g/km threshold, meaning you won’t pay for an annual tax disc and will be exempt from the London congestion charge. All versions benefit from the brand’s five-year warranty, although weak residuals means the Auris won’t be worth much by the time the guarantee expires.

Interior, design and technology

Conservative styling means that both three and five-door versions of the Toyota Auris means it lacks kerb appeal and fails to stand out from the crowd. Still, all versions benefit from standard fit alloy wheels, while the range-topping SR gets a racy tailgate-mounted spoiler and menacing black surrounds for the headlamps. Distinctive blue badges mark out the petrol/electric HSD hybrid. The cabin is well built, although some of the plastics look and feel a little cheap. There’s plenty of equipment, though. Air-conditioning and remote locking feature throughout, while desirable additions such as Bluetooth and cruise control are fitted to TR models and above.

Practicality, comfort and boot space

It’s clear Toyota has put some thought into the Auris’s family friendly layout. The cabin is surprisingly roomy and benefits from a completely flat floor in the rear. Access to the rear is tight on three-door cars, so the five-door is a better bet for growing families. However, all versions benefit from plenty of cubby space littered around the cabin, including a neat double decker glovebox arrangement. There’s also a class competitive 354-litre boot, plus a split/fold rear bench that can be folded flat at the touch of a button.

Reliability and Safety

A five-star EuroNCAP safety rating is taken for granted in this sector, and the Auris is no exception. Seven airbag, ISOFIX child seat mountings and anti-whiplash head restraints feature throughout the range. However, you’ll have to pay extra for ESP, which comes as standard on the VW Golf and Ford Focus. Toyota has a hard won reputation for reliability, so the Auris should provide years of trouble-free motoring. But for added peace of mind, there’s also the reassurance of the brand’s five-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

Hi, can anyone point me to the part number for a replacement cover for the cruise control stalk where it passes through the steering wheel cowl? I’ve ordered a cruise control stalk but don’t want to drill the existing cover. It’s for a 2018 hybrid. Thanks.

For the 2013-2015 model it is his one below, but the C1 denotes trim colour/shade apparently.  Could your shade be different to mine?

I wouldn't expect the shape of the part to be different for 2015-2018.

All fitted and working perfectly. Just to confirm that cruise control stalk part number 84632-34011 works perfectly on a 2018 Auris HSD Tourer.

Do you need to update your profile? Profile showing Rav4 and post re Auris Touring Sport.

I have fitted this to a similar age of Auris (2013) and the all the wiring was already present, apart from a short 13cm piece of cable that fits between the cruise control switch and the steering wheel connector.  But this cable normally comes included with the cruise control switch - but not when you buy from a a Toyota dealer.

Is there any reason why you think you will need to connect a wire to the ECU for your car?

I have tested two different switches. Neither works. The car is from Holland...

Ah, OK, that sounds like a particularly good reason to want an ECU picture.  I wish I could help you.

Toyota Owners Club        is a UK based club, and has membership largely from the UK and Europe.

The Fortuner, despite being based on the Hilux, has never officially been sold in the UK or Europe, so the majority of our membership isn't familiar with    this    model  .

First of all I apologize for mistakes, English is not my language, I am from Romania.

Own a hybrid Toyota Auris, manufactured at the end of 2012 and finally yesterday I managed to make the cruise control function.

I will write here what it is about because I did not find the complete answer here.

After installing the cruise control command, the damage occurred p0571.

in my case I was missing a wire between the brake pedal switch and the ECM.

the ECU plug is A130, the pin 7 that connects to the A124(switch pedal) plug, pin 5.

I haven't been here for a long time. I had to sell my Auris due to financial difficulty and now I'm back on my feet I'm buying a new one of the same age mine would have been. (I miss that car so much). This is the new car . 

The only feature this doesn't have which mine had is the Cruise Control.

is there any way to tell if this car (before I commit to buying) will allow me to install it by just getting one of these ?

I can't believe how easy it is to find this part or how cheap it is and how easy it is to install.

I have fitted cruise control to exactly the same car, but 6 months older.  There were no problems.  Just so you know, the airbag can be very stiff/fiddly to remove due to the design of the locking clip - the clips don't have a very positive detent when attempting to remove the airbag.  It just takes you longer than it ought to.  There is a Toyota part number for the new section of trim that the control sticks out through, it's a bit further up this page if you've missed it.

Thanks for the heads up and confirmation, I'll check a video online of the removal process so I can understand it. I saw that part higher up as I scanned most pages in this thread! I'm not sure where that fits. I assume it fits where there is currently a blanking plate on the steering column. but I've also read that only some cars have this blanking plate, some do not have it at all... Any clarity on that?

Edit: Oh, It's this simple!  

Your car will definitely have the blanking plate.. You can drill this yourself to suit the CC,  but the factory part has a flexible rubber/plastic to finish off the hole.  It's about £6 iirc.

The spring you are trying to operate to remove the airbag is basically 'U' shaped.  The difficulty comes from you pressing the spring half way up the side of the 'U' to detach the wire from an alloy overhang that is near the end of the 'U' clip - the leverage is all wrong.  It is hard to get enough movement on the clip and you start wondering if you are pressing the right piece.  I doubt it will come off anything like as easily as the Yaris in your video.

As that video suggests, it becomes clearer if you remove the blanking plate (which you will not be re-using because you've bought the new, different part?) so you can see inside a bit more as to how the clip operates..

When you remove the blanking plate from the outside (as opposed to pushing it out from the inside if the airbag was already off) you will probably bend its securing tangs more than is ideal, but they won't actually break off.

You can see the (squared- off) U clip around the edge in this picture.  This is shown upside-down from how it sits on the steering wheel.  Once when I was removing it I used a clean tent peg as it was the right size to go through the access hole in the steering wheel.  A narrow flat-blade screwdriver works almost as well.  You might end up pushing the spring clip quite hard, it's a bit disconcerting.  And there is a completely different style of clip (so, a 3rd one) near the bottom of the air bag, this is just a plastic dowel with a bulbous head that has been pushed into a slightly undersized hole.  This just pulls out.

There is no real need to disconnect the airbag from its loom, as long as you are happy to delicately park it on top of the steering wheel.

Hello, i have got a Toyota Auris 2014 hybrid 1.8 benzine. I have got thé retro fit cruise control fitted, but it wont work is it possible der a cables missing from thé steering colum to thé bcm?

Hello, I have a 2007 Auris 1.6 petrol and I would like to install the CC. Searching on eBay after the parts no mentioned on page 1 ( 8463234011 ) shows many results, but when I use the ”compability function” none of them seem to fit my 1.6.

Could anybody please link me a fitting one? (I live in Sweden btw so one with low shipping cost please).
