Boutros Boutros, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand,  said: “Emirates aims to provide innovative and outstanding customer experiences whether onboard, on the ground, or in the digital space. In 2018, we were the world’s first airline to introduce advanced web VR technology on our digital platforms, offering our customers an immersive opportunity to learn about the fantastic Emirates experience that awaited them before they stepped on board. We’ve continued to invest and develop that experience, and today we are delighted to be the first airline to launch a fully-fledged Oculus VR app.

“This initiative expands our global reach and ability to engage with our audiences across digital platforms. It is also particularly relevant right now, as many people have not travelled for a while due to the pandemic, and are seeking inspiration and researching and rediscovering their flight options.”

Created in partnership with technology company Renacen, Emirates’ customers can navigate through Economy, Business and First Class cabins, explore their seats, as well as the iconic Onboard Lounge and Shower Spa on the Emirates A380 using navigational hotspots. Emirates is working on an updated version featuring its Premium Economy cabin and latest A380 aircraft interiors.

In future developments, Emirates plans to offer customers the ability to explore destinations, select a cabin, and book and pay for their Emirates flight from within the Emirates Oculus VR app.

Currently, users can explore the following Emirates’ VR experiences via:

  • Emirates Oculus VR app on the Oculus Store:  offering users accurate, life size and interactive cabin interior experiences onboard Emirates’ flagship A380 aircraft and Boeing 777-300ER Gamechanger aircraft. For instance, users can “pick up” items from the Onboard Lounge, “turn on” the Shower in the Shower Spa, or close the private suite doors behind them. They can even explore the cockpit.
  • Emirates.com on PCs, mobile devices or the Emirates app for iOS and Android:  An  immersive 3D, web VR and 360 degree view  of Emirates’ Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft cabin interiors (all 20 different configurations across the airline’s fleet). Customers can explore their seats before checking in online with the 3D seat map. The tool allows customers to navigate from one seat to another, and even allows would-be customers to book their preferred seats from within the 3D environment. Users can also enjoy hands-free cabin navigation and seat selection by using any VR headset like Google Cardboard. This award-winning technology is compatible with all devices without the need for external applications or plugins.

Emirates gives passengers immersive 3D 360 degree view of aircraft interiors

Emirates has become the first airline to introduce web virtual reality (VR) technology on its digital platform, emirates.com, letting customers navigate from one seat to another, as well as allowing would-be customers to book their preferred seats from within the 3D environment.

The 3D seat model is a visualisation engine that displays an immersive 3D 360 degree view of the interior of the Emirates A380 and the Emirates Boeing 777, giving customers a chance to explore their seats, the spacious cabin and the Emirates on-board product.

This new feature allows users to navigate through the economy, business and first class cabins, as well as the Onboard Lounge and Shower Spa on the Emirates A380 using navigational hotspots.

Alex Knigge, Emirates’ senior vice president, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand (Digital), said, “As we continually invest to provide our customers with an unmatched travel experience on-board and on the ground, we also work very hard to give our customers a world-class digital experience. We are pleased to be the world’s first airline to introduce this cutting edge web VR technology, which offers our customers an immersive opportunity to learn more about the fantastic Emirates experience before they step on board. In our usability tests with customers, we found that they particularly appreciated the 3D seat and cabin models when selecting their seats.”

The immersive experience is now available for the three class Emirates A380 but will soon include renderings of Emirates’ entire fleet including all configurations of the A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.

The 3D 360 degree views of the cabins also feature a virtual reality element for a more immersive experience. Users can enjoy hands-free cabin navigation and seat selection by using any VR headset like Google Cardboard. This award-winning technology is compatible with all devices without the need for external applications or plugins. The 3D seat models were created in partnership with Renacen who were awarded the Crystal Cabin for the best visionary concept for this project at the recent Crystal Cabin Awards.

In addition to the new 3D cabin models, new product videos are available on emirates.com which illustrate the end to end travel experience across all cabins. The videos serve as a guide, giving new customers a clear idea of all the features of the Emirates travel experience.

Here’s a tour around emirates’ newest boeing 777 first-class cabin, hershey neri.

Have you ever wondered what a 5-star hotel looks like suspended in the sky?

Virtual tours inside Emirates’ newest Boeing 777 luxury cabin are making rounds on the internet, and it’s no surprise why. The first-class section, which features six fully enclosed private suites inspired by Mercedes-Benz, resembles a hotel, with each room measuring 40 square feet wide, laid out in a 1-1-1 alignment.

A suite includes floor-to-ceiling walls and doors, a NASA-inspired zero-gravity seat, luxury bedding, and even virtual windows that flash real-time high-definition videos taken by exterior cameras—now even people seated along the middle aisle get a window seat!

With amazing inflight entertainment (which includes a 32-inch touch screen TV that features 2,500 channels), guests can enjoy long flights on this one-of-a-kind cabin. They will also have  a customizable mood lighting system with 10 different functions, a luxury vanity kit, a large dining table, a closet, and a mini fridge filled with gourmet snacks. They can even adjust the room’s temperature so that the cabin will not be too cold or too warm.

Flight review: emirates boeing 777-300er business class london heathrow to dubai.

While the carrier operates 6 Airbus A380s daily on this route, it also deploys a seventh service operated by the Boeing 777-300ER.

  • The Emirates experience extends beyond the flight and offers several amenities on the ground too.
  • The new Boeing 777-300ER business-class cabins offer a more luxurious ambiance and features such as personal minibars.
  • The cabin crew was friendly, attentive to details, and went above and beyond to accommodate passenger requests.

Last week, I flew back home from London to Dubai for the holidays with Emirates and decided to check out the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER which features the newest cabins. This was one of the seven services operated by Emirates on this route, with one service operated by the 777 and the remaining six operated by Airbus A380s.

I was flying from London Heathrow International Airport (LHR) to Dubai International Airport (DXB) on service EK-042, operated by one of Emirates’ six-year-old Boeing 777-300ERs sporting the newest business and first-class cabins (the 'gamechanger').

Emirates Plans Record London Heathrow Schedule With Added Boeing 777 Flights

At heathrow airport.

With the flight scheduled to depart at 20:15, I got to the airport at around half past five at Terminal 3, out of which Emirates operates. Emirates maintains a large number of check-in counters at the terminal considering the number of flights they operate to Heathrow, and separate counters are allocated for each class of travel.

Apart from the airline’s standard Economy, Business, and First Class services, Heathrow is one of the airline’s growing number of destinations that sees the premium economy cabin with the seats being available on four of its six daily Airbus A380 services. Yes, they have a separate queue for checking in as well.

The queue for business class passengers was not as crowded at the time and was fast-moving. The whole check-in process was smooth and took less than five minutes for my documents to be checked, bag to be tagged and my boarding pass to be issued.

Passengers also have the option of having electronic boarding passes when flying with Emirates. The pass can be accessed on the Emirates app, where passengers can pre-order meals, select seats, and even create a playlist of movies, TV shows and music to enjoy on the flight.

From the counter, it was a short walk towards emigration and security. There is a separate area for business and first-class passengers to use for this, which is less crowded. However, the security check in this section is much faster because of the newer body and bag scanners.

This means, that passengers passing through this area are no longer required to take their electronic items out of their bags, and instead of being frisked and manually scanned by a security agent, passengers now need only stand on a scanning platform before proceeding to collect their bags.

Despite the evening rush, the whole process from checking in to clearing emigration and security only took around 15 minutes. While the landside experience was relatively quiet and calm, once airside, I was hit with the typical Heathrow rush and buzz of passengers flocking around the terminal.

Boarding at the gate began an hour before departure, which was good considering the flight was almost full. However, the gate was well staffed, and a separate section was provided for First and business class passengers along with Silver, Gold, and Platinum members of Emirates Skywards .

The boarding process was efficient, and I was walking down the jet bridge in no time heading toward my aircraft. On the aircraft, the cabin crew greeted me with winning smiles and gave me directions to my seat, 10E.

Since the flight was heavily booked by the time I decided to travel, the choices of seats available were limited, which made me go for 10E, located in the middle column of the cabin with a layout of 2-3-2. While this is an unusual configuration for business class within the industry, having flown the product numerous times on their older 777s, I have always had a comfortable flight. Thus, I was excited to try out their new 777 business-class cabin.

Waiting for me at the seat was a comfortable pillow, blanket, and noise-canceling headphones. Mattresses were handed out shortly after taking off.

Despite the highly dense seat layout, the seats still offer plenty of privacy with dividers for passengers, so you don’t necessarily feel that other people are sitting next to you.

A significant change in the new cabin is that personal mini bars are now in each seat stocked with a glass cup, two Evian water bottles, a bottle of Perrier, and two cans of soft drinks. This is a feature that already exists in the business class seats of the airline’s A380s. However, the most significant change is the look of the seats. With the new design, the seat and the surroundings look sleeker, more comfortable, and more luxurious.

The seats can all be converted into lie-flat beds and now offer more storage space than the older cabins. The seats, lights, and privacy dividers can be controlled by the control buttons on the side console, but also with the remote, the detachable control tablet, or the massive IFE screen itself.

Each seat has its own overhead temperature control nozzle and reading lights. However, there is also a reading light to the side on each seat.

The seat also offers a wide variety of power output options ranging from a universal power port to USB-B and USB-C ports and an HDMI port as well, which allows for charging of personal devices or streaming content from your device onto the IFE screen.

If there is one thing you are guaranteed on an Emirates flight, it's that you will never be bored. Emirates’ ICE entertainment system is widely regarded as the best in the world and has enough content choices for all its travelers. Whether on a 35-minute flight to Muscat or a 16-hour flight to Los Angeles, ICE has got you covered with enough content from around the world.

The system has a user-friendly interface and can be controlled by either the huge touchscreen display in front of you, or you can navigate the content using the touch screen remote or the detachable tablet you can find in the side console.

Apart from an impressive range of old and new movies, TV shows and music, Emirates ICE also has award-winning content from HBO Max, BBC, and Shahid streaming services. Furthermore, passengers can also view the airshow channels, which display impressive details regarding the flight and its progress. Additionally, passengers can enjoy external sights using high-definition downward and forward cameras.

The airline offers free onboard WiFi to its Skywards customers, with the connectivity package depending on class of travel and Skywards status. The WiFi became accessible shortly after taking off and was easy to connect to. The network was fast and remained stable throughout the flight.

Before the flight, passengers flying on the Boeing 777 can curate a playlist of movies, music, and TV shows to watch inflight via the Emirates app and have it synchronized to their seat upon boarding.

Furthermore, from the IFE screen, passengers can view information about Emirates, its route network, its services, and its home in Dubai. Passengers flying into DXB can also view flight connection information before arriving, which is a handy service considering Emirates operates a hub and spoke model. Information such as baggage carousel numbers is also provided.

Emirates has gone above and beyond to make information easy to access for its guests, and the ability to multitask with three different screens makes the journey seamless. You can, for example, watch a movie on the main screen while streaming the external camera on the tablet and have the air show channel with the information regarding your flight displayed on the seat-side remote screen.

Amenity kits

Emirates has long partnered with the luxury brand BVLGARI for the amenity kits provided for business and first-class passengers. The kits are constantly updated with new BVLGARI scents made exclusively for Emirates passengers.

Within the kit, you can find a lot of useful products that are helpful when flying overnight. The kit includes BVLGARI Eau De Toilette, body lotion, aftershave balm, and lip balm, which are made exclusively for Emirates. Additionally, you can find a roll-on deodorant, shaving foam, shaving blades, a hair comb, a dental kit, and a pack of facial tissues.

Additional amenities such as dental kits, hair combs, hand creams, and sanitary products can be found in the inflight lavatory on all flights. All passengers also receive a pouch with an eye mask and slippers (previously, instead of slippers, passengers were provided with a pair of comfortable woolen socks).

Meal service

Straight after settling into the seat, I was offered a choice of pre-departure drinks consisting of Champagne or freshly squeezed apple or orange juice. In my case, I had a nice cup of apple juice and, upon request, I was also served a glass of orange juice.

Shortly after taking off, the crew members walked around taking orders for the dinner service and noting down passengers’ preferred after-take-off drink, which can be served on its own, with a plate of olives or assorted mixed nuts.

Emirates has always excelled with its meal services. Catering to a wide range of dietary restrictions, passengers flying with Emirates have various choices available regarding inflight meal services. Passengers can pre-select their main course meal or reserve special meals (such as vegan or gluten-free and more) online to ensure their preferred choice of meal is available.

For the after-take-off drink, I had a glass of virgin mojito along with mixed nuts. For the three-course dinner meal, I chose the Traditional Arabic Mezze for the Appetizer, Seared Beef Fillet for the main course, and White Chocolate Cheesecake for dessert. The dinner is served with a bowl of fresh salad and a selection of warm breads.

The food was delicious and was served with excellent presentation and metal cutlery. Another thing that stands out about Emirates' inflight catering is that the meal portions are always the right size. The portion is not so small that it leaves the passengers wanting more, but is also not so big that the passengers struggle to finish the meal.

While there is no breakfast meal service on flight EK-042, upon asking the crew, they were more than happy to set aside a fruit plate for me, which was served shortly before landing. However, passengers, at any point during the flight, can order drinks of their choice from the extensive list of hot beverages, juices, mocktails, cocktails, and wines, some of which are exclusive to Emirates passengers.

Crew and service

The cabin crew members provided spectacular service throughout the flight, from boarding to disembarking the aircraft. The crew were friendly and introduced themselves to the passengers personally.

As a frequent flyer with Emirates, the crew already had passenger details on the system, so I was greeted by name during the introductions. I was also asked if I would like a tour of the seat and its features, which was not necessary in my case. Soon after that, I was served with a scented hot towel, the amenity kit, the menu, and the wine list.

The crew members were also very proactive and ensured everything flowed with clockwork precision. From answering passenger calls within seconds to ensuring plates were cleared within minutes of passengers completing every course of the dinner service, the attention to detail was immaculate.

Also, the fact that the crew member was willing to set aside a makeshift fruit plate just for me to be served as a mini-breakfast before landing goes to show the excellence in service of the Emirates cabin crew teams and shows they are willing to go above and beyond to accommodate passenger requests.

As is my tradition when flying with Emirates, I had to get some Polaroid pictures, an Emirates specialty that is complimentary to all passengers across all travel classes. Little things like these make the flight even more memorable, as these pictures are then put into cute frames that passengers can take home as souvenirs.

Hot towels were handed out again to passengers shortly before landing.

Arrival and disembarking

After a flight of over six hours, the aircraft had a smooth arrival back in Dubai, and after a short taxi, the aircraft stopped at a remote stand. While this might be considered an inconvenience to some passengers, for an avgeek such as myself, getting to ride around the airport in a bus and see various aircraft on the ground is more of a treat than an inconvenience.

Despite the flight being almost full, the deplaning process was quick as the first and business-class passengers were disembarking through a different exit. The crew bid each passenger farewell, and there were additional airport staff at the top of the stairs to help passengers requiring extra assistance.

Passengers traveling in business class and first get two separate transfer buses, while economy passengers had multiple buses for them positioned at the exit they were disembarking from. After a short ride around the airport, we were dropped off at the main terminal building, where there were more Emirates ground staff positioned to help transfer passengers and airport staff with wheelchairs for passengers who requested assistance beforehand.

Business and first class passengers arriving in Dubai (and several other destinations worldwide) can use the airline’s complimentary chauffeur service to travel to and from the airport.

The overall verdict

The Emirates experience, both on the ground and in the air, is exceptionally comfortable and hassle-free. While the 777 business class hard product has an unconventional seating layout compared to the norm in the industry, the product is still luxurious and solid and delivers a highly comfortable flight. Paired with the soft product delivered by great crew members, it becomes an incredible flying experience.

Now, is it as good as the business class onboard the Emirates A380? From previous experience, the soft product is consistent (another sign of great crew service). However, because of the space available onboard the A380, the seats offer more space and amenities, such as extra storage spaces, direct aisle access, and the onboard lounge. Plus, flying the A380 is always a special occasion, regardless of the class of travel.
