After you have entered UAE, the file under your UID will be marked as used, signifying that you have entered the country.

This should be done during the grace period of your visit visa before it expires, or else you will be fined for overstaying. If you are going to stay with your husband, he should act as the sponsor and apply for your residence visa.

If you are a passport holder of the below country or territory, no advance visa arrangements are required to visit the UAE. Simply disembark your flight at Dubai International and proceed to immigration, where your passport will be stamped with a 30-day visit visa free of charge.

90-day visit eligibility

If you are a passport holder of one of the below countries or territories, your passport will be stamped with a multiple entry 90-day visit visa that's valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and for a stay of 90 days in total. Citizens of the below European countries are also entitled to apply for a pre-arranged visit visa if their 90-day visa on arrival has been fully utilized.

180-day visit eligibility

If you hold a Mexican passport you’re eligible for a multiple entry 180-day visit visa that's valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and for a stay of 180 days in total.

Dubai immigration procedures

As an added security measure, Immigration Authorities at Dubai International are now conducting random eye screening for visitors to Dubai.

Visitors asked to proceed for eye screening are required to present a hard copy of their visa or a printed version of the visa number confirmation page at the screening counter. If you do not have a copy with you, a charge of AED 30 per copy applies - payable only in AED.

Important information

Before you travel to the UAE, please check your visa requirements and make sure you have a valid visa if needed, or if your passport needs to be valid for a minimum period. Holders of non-standard passports and travel documents may also have different entry requirements: find out if you need to apply for a visa and other passport requirements.

As of 29 April 2016, GCC residence permit holders will need to apply for a UAE visa before arriving in Dubai.

New visit entry permit to the UAE for Indian nationals

From 7 January 2024, eligible Indian nationals with a normal passport valid for a minimum of six months can obtain a single entry, 14-day visa on arrival. A fee of USD 63 applies.

• Indian passport holder with USA visa valid for a minimum of six months
• Indian passport holder with USA green card valid for a minimum of six months
• Indian passport holder with UK residence card valid for a minimum of six months
• Indian passport holder with EU residence card from the following countries valid for a minimum of six months

The online visa application service is available for residents and nationals of many countries around the world. Find out if you can apply for a UAE visa. Applicants' passports must have at least six months' validity as of their date of travel to Dubai, and must be machine readable passports – handwritten passports are not accepted.

This service is only available to passengers with a confirmed Emirates booking where an Emirates ticket has already been issued and the flight itinerary already includes the desired time in Dubai. The itinerary into and out of Dubai should be on one ticket (PNR), and these flights must be Emirates flights. The UAE has introduced several changes in its visa procedures as part of the sweeping reforms known as the Advanced Visa System, which came into effect in October 2022. Introduced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), it was one of the largest residency and entry permit reforms in the UAE.

Since then, several developments have happened in the visit visa system of the country. In the latest move today, the fees for issuing Emirates ID, visit, and residency visas in the UAE have been increased.

Khaleej Times puts together a list of 6 changes that have occurred in the visit visa system since the reforms came into effect.

No visit visa extensions from within the country: Visit visa holders do not have the option to extend their visas beyond its stipulated term from within the country. Those with a visiting visa but wanting to continue staying in the country must exit the UAE and then reenter on a new visit visa. “Visitors have the option of extending their visas for one month at a cost,” said Afi Ahmed, Managing Director, Smart Travels. “After that they must exit the country either through air or land and can re-enter.”

Increase in fee: The fees for issuing Emirates IDs and visas increased . The new costs apply to all services rendered by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), as confirmed by a representative. As per the new rules, Emirates ID will now cost Dh370 instead of Dh270; and the fee to issue a one-month visit visa is Dh370 instead of Dh270.

5-year multiple entry visa: With the visa, tourists can enter the UAE multiple times on self-sponsorship and remain in the country for 90 days during each visit. Holders can extend the visas for 90 days in addition to the initial 90 days without leaving the country. According to authorities, the visa allows families outside the country to spend more time with their loved ones in the UAE. People applying for the multiple entry visa need to provide supporting documents including bank statement for the last six months with a balance of $4,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies, proof of UAE health insurance, copy of the flight ticket and proof of residence, like an invitation letter from friends and family in the UAE.

Overstay fine: Visitors who overstay their visit visa duration must pay their overstay fine and obtain an out pass or leave permit at an additional cost before exiting the country. “This is applicable to visitors who are exiting through Dubai,” said a spokesperson for Deira travels. “The out pass is not required by visitors you are leaving from other emirates.”

60 days visas resumed: The issuing of 60 days visit visas was resumed in the UAE after the reforms. Currently, 30-day visit visas and 60-day visit visas are being issued for those wanting to visit the country.

Entry permit to visit relatives or friends: As per the current amendment, a visitor can apply for this entry permit if he/she is a relative or friend of a UAE citizen or resident. It does not require them to go through a travel agency. “The friend or relative can sponsor the visitor by paying a refundable deposit of Dhs. 1000,” said Praveen Chowdhary from Saffron Travels and Tourism.

UAE visa residency rules: all you need to know

People with visas that expire from july 12 onwards have a 30-day grace period and those whose visa expired from march 1 until july 11 have a three-month window to finalise visa under new guidelines.

UAE residents whose visas expire on or after July 12 will have a month to renew their document or will face fines.

A senior official said regular pre-coronavirus visa rules have resumed as services reopened across the country on Sunday.

At the weekend, the UAE Cabinet announced a three-month grace period for GCC passport holders and UAE residents to renew their visa and residency documents. This applies to people with residency visas or Emirates ID cards that expired after March 1 and before July 12.

For Emiratis and GCC nationals, who do not require residence visas, the documents refer to the validity of their Emirates identity cards.

“The purpose of the amendments was for things to gradually return to normal,” Brig Gen Khamis Al Kaabi, spokesman for the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, said in a radio interview on Monday.

He said the new expiry dates for visas have yet to be updated on the ICA portal but will be soon.

The ICA resumed charging administrative fees for visa services on Sunday.

The announcement on Friday also covered residents outside the UAE who have not been able to return within 180 days.

The National  spoke to Haider Hussain, a partner at Fragomen, an immigration services company, to explain some of the changes.

Who is affected by this new update?

This covers people with existing UAE residence permits whose visas have expired after March 1 and those with visas expected to expire in the coming months.

For GCC nationals, it refers to non-sponsored GCC identity and emirates identity card.

For Emiratis it applies to their Emirates identity cards.

What does the new three-month grace period mean?

For people inside the UAE  whose residence permit expires from  March 1 until July 11, they now have a three-month grace period starting from Saturday. They must renew their visas by October 10.

All residence permit holders whose residency permits expires from July 12 onward will have a 30-day grace period to renew their documents.

Earlier residence permits expiring post March 1 were automatically renewed until the end of December to mitigate for the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. As of July 11, the residency extensions until the end of the year are no longer applicable.

This covers everybody who holds a UAE residence permit that expired after March 1. It covers dependents, employees and maids.

What do I need to do and will I be fined?

Dubai residence visa holders with permits that expired between March 1 to July 11 should begin their renewal. The residency visas should be renewed prior to October 10 to avoid any overstay fines.

For residence permit holders of other emirates, the submission schedule has been announced by ICA.

All residence permit holders whose residence permit expires from July 12 will face overstay fines if they do not renew their documents within the 30-day grace period.

Once government portals are updated, residents can log in and enter their visa details to check the updated expiry date.

To verify visa validity on the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship portal or ICA, visit this website .

Dubai residents can check on the General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs  portal .

For those in the country, breaking the residency visa rules incurs a fine of Dh25 a day. When leaving the country, the fine is Dh250 plus Dh25 a day.

There is also a daily Dh20 fine for failing to renew an Emirates identity card. This can go up to Dh1,000.

Those sponsoring dependents or housemaids should check the portals for the new expiry dates and renew before the grace period ends.

What about UAE residents outside the country?

If they have not  been out of UAE for more than 180 days, they have one month after they enter to renew their residency visa.

What happens to residents who have been out of the country for more than six months?

The implementation will be clear in the coming weeks for residents whose visas expired after March 1 and have been out of the country for more than 180 days. A specific grace period will be determined by the ICA.

Residents will be permitted to enter the UAE. Once flights resume between the country they are currently in and the UAE, they need to get ICA or GDRFA approval prior to their return.

The understanding is the grace period will be 30 days on entry to the UAE.

Do I need to take a medical test?

For those who renew their residency visas, the earlier renewal process remains. During stay home restrictions, residents received an electronic sticker online to show the visa was extended.

From now on, the renewed residency visa will be stamped on their passport.

When can you begin filing renewal applications?

Authorities have released a schedule for filling renewal applications. Dubai residence visa holders can begin submission of applications. People with residence visas in other emirates need to follow the submission schedule given by the ICA.

For residency visas and emirates identity cards that expired in March and April 2020, the date to resume acceptance of renewal requests is from July 12, 2020, as per the ICA.

For expirations in May, the date is August 11, 2020.

For documents that expired in June and until July 11, the date is September 10, 2020.

I’m leaving on holiday for a few weeks, what should I do?

Residents should renew their residency visa before they travel out of the UAE. Despite the grace period, there could be issues at the airport if updates are not reflected in the system.

Before travelling, people leaving Dubai should also get General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs approval. This works as an entry permit for residents that they need to secure before they exit the UAE.

I have a residency visa, study in a college overseas but now I need to stay in the UAE because my college is closed. What are my options?

If your residency visa expires after March 1, you fall in the same category as those with residency visas and can follow the same process of renewal.

I’m a student of a college overseas. I have been living on a tourist visa with my family in the UAE since March just before international travel shut down. Can I remain in the UAE?

There is a provision to amend a tourist visa to a local residency visa. For children above 18 years and studying abroad, certain criteria must be met and it will be judged on a humanitarian, case by case basis. If the case is genuine and the person cannot exit the UAE, approval may be given by authorities.

This will require a local sponsor that includes a parent or legal guardian.

Students who came into the UAE on tourist visas because universities overseas shut down due to the coronavirus will need to renew if the renewal option exits on their visa.

There is a possibility to renew the tourist visa while remaining in the UAE.

In addition, based on their nationality, certain students can get visa on arrival and stay for 30, 60 or 90 days.

What about newborns of mothers who have delivered overseas?

If the main sponsor is in Dubai and the mother and newborn are overseas, they can file for an ‘out of country’ permit online through the Amer centre.

For Abu Dhabi and other emirates, they can file on the ICA portal for a newborn return, even if the child does not have a residency permit. They can then get a permit when in the country.

What about people who lost jobs or had visas cancelled after March 1?

They have 30 days to find an employer or find a new job. Failing this, they should exit the UAE within 30 days. They can also apply for an in-country 30 or 90-day tourist visa.

The overstay fines payable per day after one month grace is Dh225 for the first day and Dh25 for each subsequent day.

How about people whose visas were cancelled or expired before March 1?

As per the earlier guidance, they have until August 18 to leave. The updated notification does not cover people whose permits were cancelled before March.

What about people entering the UAE for fresh employment?

This applies to Dubai since it has opened up to international flights.

A company based inside a free zone can apply for an entry permit for people outside the UAE.

Such ‘out of country’ entry permits are being filed and approved so people can come into the UAE for a new relocation. 'Out of country' entry permits for dependents have also been reinstated.

The person will need to complete medical fitness tests as part of their residence application when inside Dubai.

What if I receive a fine although my residency visa falls under the grace period?

As you complete the renewal process, during the filing if there is an issue, you can check with the Tadbeer centres or Amer service centres to address such cases. People an also visit the GDRFA customer service centres.

Categories Exempt from Tourist Visa

How to Get a UAE Residence Visa in Six Steps

Relocating foreign talent to the UAE usually involves applying for a standard work visa. As the employer, this task falls on your shoulders. You can either manage the visa process yourself or outsource to an immigration service provider like Deel. If you’re choosing to handle the visa yourself, our guide will walk you through the essential steps involved.

1. Check the worker’s eligibility and visa category

There are two main types of residence visa for employees in the UAE: the standard work visa and the Golden visa. Most foreign nationals apply for the standard work visa, which lasts two years. Applicants must be between 18 and 60 years old. They also need the relevant academic qualifications: a degree certificate for skilled jobs and a high school diploma or their country’s equivalent for unskilled ones. As their sponsor, you should have a valid license for your company and proof of a formal job offer. With a residence permit, expats can then sponsor their family members, namely their spouses and any dependents. However, they’ll need a minimum salary of 4,000 AED ($1080 USD) per month. Note that companies operating within one of the UAE’s 46 free zones have a visa quota. They can only sponsor a certain number of foreign workers at one time and have to secure approval.

2. Prepare the supporting documents

You will require various paperwork at different stages during the visa application process. Here’s a list of all the documentation you should prepare or request from your worker:

• A passport with at least six months at the time of submission and two spare pages
• A colored copy of a passport
• A digital passport-sized photo on a white background
• A copy of the work contract
• Legalized academic certificates
• A financial guarantor document

UAE Immigration requires you to attest all documentation and translate it into Arabic using a professional service. If your employee is applying from outside the country, you can arrange counter-attestation through the UAE ministry of affairs. You can obtain translations through the worker’s nearest embassy.

3. Obtain an entry visa

Before your worker can enter the UAE, they may need you to apply for an entry visa on their behalf. Workers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are exempt as long as they can secure and present a government ID on arrival into the UAE. That means you don’t need to procure an entry visa for citizens from the following countries:

• Saudi Arabia

You can apply for the entry permit via the UAE immigration website portal . There are three main stages to this process:

• Registration : Create an account on the website if you haven’t already got one. You can use this to manage all future work visa and residence applications
• Application : Upload supporting documents to the system and pay the 1350 AED ($370) visa fees
• Collection : Receive the entry permit within 48 hours of making the application

4. Arrange a medical examination

Visa applicants need a certificate of good health from a Dubai Health Authority (DHA) accredited hospital for the residence permit application. They have to arrange an appointment at a center to get X-rays and blood tests for communicable diseases.  You can download the forms and pay the 260 AED ($70) fees on the Emirates Health Service (EHS) website . After the medical check, the hospital will send the results directly to Emirati immigration officials within two days.

5. Apply for an Emirates ID

Before you can file for the residence permit, the worker has to get their Emirati ID card. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) is responsible for issuing them. They’ll send you an ID application form within one to three days of your medical appointment.  Once you’ve applied for an ID, you’re ready to enroll your worker in health insurance. Medical coverage is mandatory in the UAE, and many emirates make it compulsory for employers to add their employees to a company plan. Check the minimum requirements for your company’s location to see whether the benefits you offer are compliant. Within 15 days of your ID form issuance, your worker can visit one of the ICP’s accredited testing centers for their biometric appointment. If and when they renew, they can use the ICP website portal instead . The ID application costs 180 AED ($50)  but there’s also the option to pay an extra 150 AED ($40) for urgent services.

6. File for residency

Once you’ve taken these steps, you can apply for the residence permit on the UAE government portal . You can upload any supporting documents and pay the filing fees of up to 750 AED ($205). The immigration office will take up to 48 hours to process your application. If you are approved, the worker should receive their Emirates ID card within two weeks.  Your worker’s residence status lasts up to two years with the option for renewal. If they have the Golden Visa, it’s up to ten years. Upon renewal, they’ll have to repeat some steps of the visa process, including the medical checks and residency application forms.

Here's a breakdown of the process for applying for an e-visa in each Gulf nation:

UAE citizens enjoy visa-free travel to Saudi Arabia for tourism purposes. However, residents have the option to apply for e-visa, which grants a validity period of 1 year and permits stays of up to 90 days per visit. The e-visa is available in two types, single entry e-visa, and multiple entry e-visa; fees are Dh452 for a single entry visa.

UAE citizens can travel to Oman visa-free, while residents can opt for e-visa. Visitors can apply for this visa online through the Royal Oman Police website, allowing a stay of 28 days. Visitors can extend their visas for an extra week if necessary. The visa costs OMR 5.

You need a scanned copy of your valid passport. Your passport must be valid for 6 months from your date of entry.

The photo must be recent with a white background.

You need a copy of your residence permit. Your permit must be valid when you enter Oman.

Nationalities from 102 countries can enter Qatar visa-free, and all others can apply for an e-visa using the Hayya platform online.

Depending on the passports they hold, residents have the option to obtain either a 90-day or a 30-day visit visa for Qatar. UAE residents who require the Qatar e-visa will have to pay QAR 100.

The Qatar e-Visa application is straightforward and uncomplicated. It consists of 3 easy steps - fill in the application form with your personal data and travel details, upload the essential documentation in PDF format, and make the payment for the processing of your application.

Bahrain offers various types of visit visas tailored to the residency status and duration of stay for GCC residents and visitors. These include a two-week single-entry visa for GCC residents, a one-month multiple-entry visa for GCC visitors, a three-month multiple-entry visa for GCC residents, and a one-year multiple-entry visa for GCC residents. Each visa type has its conditions and validity period. Additionally, Bahrain also provides on-arrival visa services for eligible individuals. Visa fees differ as per the length of the visit.

Travellers holding a valid UAE passport will not require visa to enter Kuwait. If you hold a foreign passport and a GCC residency card, you must obtain an e-visa before you can travel to Kuwait. This applies to all foreigners living in the UAE. The e-visa issued by the Kuwait portal is valid for up to 30 days.

The application process for the Kuwait online visa for UAE residents is quick, and it involves submitting a few basic personal details, passport information, and answering some security questions.

Individuals applying for a Kuwait visa from Dubai and the UAE must be either of the following: A resident of the UAE with a GCC residency permit that will be valid for at least 6 months. A national of one of the eligible countries listed below.

The applicant must have a passport that will be valid for at least 6 months from the date of application.

There must be no security restrictions imposed on the applicant that would prevent them from entering Kuwait.

Visitors must comply with all conditions of their visa when in Kuwait. Those who have breached the terms of their visa on previous occasions (such as staying in the country longer than permitted) may be denied a new visa.

The Kuwait e-visa processing time is within 24 hours (except Friday, Saturday & holidays in Kuwait). However, some applications may take longer, up to three (3) business days, upon completion of the Kuwait e-visa application form.

Dubai: If you want to travel to Europe for the upcoming Eid Al Fitr  holiday or the summer break later, but do not want to face the long delays and application process for a Schengen visa, you can apply for an eVisa to Albania.

The eVisa is for all nationalities, and it allows holders to stay for up to 90 days in the country. The application process is entirely online, which means you do not have to visit the consulate in person or apply through a third-party agent.

A 2023 report on travel trends among UAE residents found that  Albania is the only trending European destination in the top 10 travel choices for UAE residents.

UAE residents must apply for the visa online through Albania’s official eVisa platform - e-visa.al, and fill out the application form for a ‘Short Stay Visa’ or ‘Type C’ visa.

Visa-free entry to Albania for UAE Golden Visa holders

As per e-visa.al, visa free entry is available to “foreign citizens who have a 10 year residence permit issued by the competent authority of the United Arab Emirates, valid not less than one year from the moment of entry.”

Other visa exemptions for Albania

Also, if you have a Schengen visa, or an entry permit from US or UK, you are exempt from applying for a visa. If you do not meet the criteria for visa exemption, you can apply for an ‘eVisa for short stay’ or type ‘C’.

Required documents

As per Albania’s official eVisa platform, these are the required documents:

• The completed visa application form • A valid UAE residence permit of more than 12 months, issued from the country of residence, with a validity period of at least three months than the duration period of the required visa. • Proof of employment. In case of this criteria not being met, the foreign citizen has to provide sufficient evidence that they will return to their country of birth or country of residence. • Round-trip ticket. • Photograph of the applicant, with dimensions 47 mm x 36 mm. The passport photo must have a white background, and be taken within six months. The photo must must be uploaded in the following format – JPEG, JPG, and PNG. • Documents showing a booking in an accommodation facility or invitation from the person or place where they will be accommodated. • Documents that prove the applicant has sufficient financial means for living, both for the duration of the stay and for returning to a third country. • The full bank statement for the last 12 months. As per the eVisa platform, the funds should be listed on your bank statement before applying for the visa. According to Albania’s eVisa platform – the funds in the account must meet the financial guarantee criteria for the duration of your stay in Albania: o 5,000 ALL (Albanian Lek) (Dh178.26) equivalent to 44 Euros and 44 cents per day for adults 18 years old and above. o 2,500 ALL (Albanian Lek) (Dh89.50) equivalent to 22 Euros and 22 cents per day for children up to 17 years old.

The documents must show that the applicant has sufficient financial means for living, both for the duration of the stay and for returning to a third country.

How to apply for Albania eVisa for UAE residents

Important note: The eVisa platform advises applicants to apply for the visa within 90 days of the intended date of travel. The application will be refused if your intended date of travel is longer than 90 days from the date of your visa application.

Visit this link - e-visa.al/apply , and click on ‘Electronic Visa’ under the ‘Select the desired visa type’ category, and choose ‘Visa Type C - Short stay visa’.

During the application, it is mandatory to fill in the required information, which is marked with an asterisk (*).

Step 1: Fill in personal information:

• Select your country or place of residence. Once you select ‘United Arab Emirates’, the consular office in Abu Dhabi will approve and issue the visa • Enter your full name and date of birth. • Enter your personal ID number, which is your Emirates ID. • Enter your place of birth. • Select you current and original nationality. If you have not changed your citizenship or do not have dual nationality, enter the same country for both the options. • Select your gender. • Enter your father’s name. • Select, if you have a valid residence permit – ‘yes’ or ‘no’. • Click the ‘Next’ button.

Step 2: Fill in passport details

• Select passport type • Enter passport number • Enter the issuing authority • Date of issue and expiry • Next, answer this question with a yes or no: ‘If you reside in a country other than your country of origin, do you have permission to return to that country?’ • Select if the passport is valid.

Click the ‘Next’ button.

Step 3: Enter information for Albania eVisa

• For this section, the visa type and purpose of visit will be automatically filled in by the eVisa system. • Select whether it is an individual visa • Select of date of arrival and departure. • Select the number of entries – single of multiple. • Enter the means of transport. • Select the entry point from the drop-down menu. • Enter your occupation. • Select whether you have an entry permit for your final destination, and enter the authority of issue. • If you have had other visas issued in the past three years, select yes or no. Additionally, if you have travelled to Albania previously, enter ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Step 4: Family members’ application.

This is not a mandatory step if you are applying for an individual visa. If you are travelling, with family or children, then you must fill this section with their names and dates of birth.

Step 5: Host information

For the eVisa for Albania, applicants must have booked accommodation, or an invitation from an Albanian citizen or foreign resident in the country.

If you are staying in a hotel, you must provide the address, email and phone number. If you have been invited by someone, enter the host’s contact details and address.

You must also state who will finance your trip in Albania - if it is you, select, ‘myself’. If it is being sponsored by someone else, you can select ‘host’. Additionally, you must enter how you will support yourself, for example, cash, credit card, etc.

Once that’s done, you must state if you have insurance, and it’s validity date.

Step 6: Additional information

Enter your home address, email address and telephone number.

Click ‘Next’.

Step 7: Upload documents.

Next, upload the required documents and passport photograph, as per the requirements.

Step 8: Pre-approval and eVisa fee payment

According to Albania’s eVisa platform the application is pre-verified by the consul. If the details, and documents are correct, then the form will be accepted and a visa fee payment is requested.

Cost : Depending on the type of visa, and duration, the cost can come to Dh300 to Dh700 . The cost can differentiate as per the application details.

eVisa evaluation phase

According to e-visa.al, after the applicant pays the visa fee, the following steps are undertaken:

The applicant is notified via email that the application is being evaluated. This process can take up to 15 working days and in some cases it can take up to 30 working days.

Step 9: Receive the eVisa via email

Once the eVisa has passed the evaluation phase and the visa is approved, the applicant will receive the eVisa via email.

According to e-visa.al, “if the visa is rejected, the applicant is informed via email with the legal arguments for the visa rejection.”

How long does the process take?

The visa application can take up to takes 15 working days from the day when the payment for the visa is made. For exceptional cases, the verification process can take up to 30 working days , according to e-visa.al.
