Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay guide

Erica Silverstein

What's your perfect day in port on a cruise? For some cruisers, it's relaxing on the beach, umbrella drink in hand. For others, it's all the water sports. Your kids might vote for an epic amusement park, while young professionals might be looking to let loose and party.

Royal Caribbean 's private Bahamian island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, aims to create the ideal vacation day for nearly everyone with its plethora of attractions. It features multiple beaches, a giant pool, water play areas and thrill rides for kids and adults of all ages. Plus, there's plenty of dining areas and bars to keep you fueled up for all the fun.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

A visit to the island can seem overwhelming at first. Which beach do you choose — or should you head straight for the pool? Should you book an excursion, or is there no need? Can you enjoy the island without paying extra or do you need to cough up hundreds of dollars to have fun?

In this guide, I'll take you on a comprehensive tour, so you can get a better sense of how to plan your perfect day the next time you visit Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day.

Note: Prices for activities and rentals can vary based on sail date and whether they're booked pre-cruise, on board or on shore.

Where is Perfect Day at CocoCay?

Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay is located in the Bahamas. It's part of the Berry Islands, northwest of Nassau and southeast of Freeport, both popular cruise ports in the Bahamas. It's roughly 140 miles east of Miami.

The island sits just to the west of Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line 's private island, and you'll be able to see that island and visiting NCL ships from Perfect Day.

The island is smaller than 1 mile long and 1/3 mile wide.

Which cruise ships go there?

cococay jet tour

Nearly every Royal Caribbean ship in the fleet will visit Perfect Day at CocoCay at some point, either during a season of Caribbean or Bahamas cruises or during a repositioning voyage from one cruise destination to another.

It's easier to list the ships that won't be visiting the island. Through April 2025, ships that won't ever dock at Royal Caribbean's private island include:

  • Brilliance of the Seas
  • Navigator of the Seas
  • Ovation of the Seas
  • Quantum of the Seas
  • Spectrum of the Seas

It used to be that only Royal Caribbean ships regularly called at Perfect Day, but now sister cruise line Celebrity Cruises is getting into the action. Beginning in April 2024, Celebrity Reflection will sail three- and four-night cruises from Fort Lauderdale that will visit the private island. Other Celebrity ships that will call on the island a handful of times in 2024 and 2025 include:

  • Celebrity Beyond
  • Celebrity Apex
  • Celebrity Equinox

How do you get to and around Perfect Day at CocoCay?

cococay jet tour

Two cruise ships at a time can dock at the long pier jutting out from Perfect Day at CocoCay. Passengers can walk off the ship via the gangway instead of taking a tender boat, as they might have to on other cruise lines' private islands.

Once on the island, pathways lead to the various beaches and attractions. It's not actually that far to get anywhere around the island, but when the Bahamian sun is beating down on you, it can feel a lot longer. According to the map, it's 14 minutes from the arrivals plaza to the farthest beach, Cove Beach. But you can have your feet in the sand within three minutes of stepping foot on the island.

For those who can't or don't want to walk the long pier from the ship to the island and from the arrivals plaza to the beach, Royal Caribbean runs a fleet of electric trams that run every 15 minutes. Stops include Thrill Waterpark, South Beach, Coco Beach Club, Oasis Lagoon, Chill Island and Up, Up and Away. Wait at the tram stations for a pickup.

What are the Perfect Day beaches?

cococay jet tour

Perfect Day at CocoCay has six beaches and the Coco Beach Club. It can be overwhelming trying to decide where to go first when you step foot on the island. But you really can't go wrong — and if you do, just get up and go somewhere else!

The beaches have different vibes, and some are closer to or farther from the arrivals plaza or other amenities such as dining and beach sports. Let that combination decide your first destination. All have complimentary lounge chairs with beach umbrellas (so nice not to have to pay for shade!) and lifeguards.

CocoCay's seven beaches are:

Chill Island

cococay jet tour

The closest main beach on Perfect Day is Chill Island, a 5- to 10-minute walk from the arrivals plaza. Here you'll find two big and one small sheltered bays with calm water. One end has daybeds and the other cabanas to rent, and in the middle are the open-to-all lounge chairs. In the middle is the Island Market for shopping and the Chill Grill, one of the two main complimentary barbecue lunch venues on Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Breezy Bay at Chill Island

Beyond the rocky breakwaters of Chill Island is Breezy Bay at Chill Island, a smaller, less protected beach. The shore excursions and kayak rental huts are at the corner where the two beaches meet, and your jet ski tours will depart from this beach, as well. Daybeds are available to rent.

There's a Snack Shack between Breezy Bay and the Oasis Lagoon pool, but otherwise you're not so close to food on this beach.

Harbor Beach

cococay jet tour

Harbor Beach surrounds the Harbor Lagoon, the calmest waters on the island as the lagoon only has one narrow outlet to the sea. This beach is ideal for families with young kids as it's close to both main lunch spots, the Splashaway Bay water play area and the Oasis Lagoon pool. And it's not far from the ship.

Seaside Point

cococay jet tour

This tiny beach area on the other side of the bridge from the arrivals plaza is Perfect Day's event venue. Weddings are held here, and you can rent out the area for other private functions as well. There's no swimming outlet here, so you'll need to make the short trek to Chill Beach to get wet.

Coco Beach Club

If your idea of a perfect day is living the VIP lifestyle, you'll want to buy access to Perfect Day at CocoCay's exclusive Coco Beach Club. Your pass gets you access to the private beach, infinity pool and upscale beachside restaurant and bar.

Pricing for a Coco Beach Club day pass can vary wildly. Folks online say they're a deal at $89 per person but can run more than $200 per person. Keep an eye out for sales. Cabanas and daybeds in the beach club cost extra, but the price to rent one includes the day pass.

South Beach

cococay jet tour

South Beach, like its namesake, is the party beach, mainly due to the floating bar just offshore and the sports courts behind. You will be dared to jump off the bar's platform with your beer or "chug, chug, chug" with your friends. Once you get here, via tram or nature trail, everything is at your fingertips. There's a Snack Shack for lunch, Coconut Willie's bar if you prefer not to swim to your cocktail, bathrooms, rentals and the aforementioned sports areas.

Past the exclusive-access cabana and daybed area of South Beach is Cove Beach, the farthest stretch of sand from the ship. No roads lead here; you have to hoof it down the beach from the South Beach tram stop.

What are the best Perfect Day at CocoCay things to do?

If you don't love the feeling of sand between your toes, you've got plenty of other ways to keep busy and get wet on Perfect Day at CocoCay. After all, not everyone's ideal day out looks the same.

The one thing that some other private islands have, but Perfect Day does not, is a spa.

Thrill Waterpark

cococay jet tour

The first thing you will notice about Royal Caribbean's private island, including from the ship, is its giant multicolored waterslide tower rising above the tree line. This iconic landmark is the 135-foot-tall Daredevil's Peak (the tallest waterslide in North America, according to the line) and it's the signature attraction at Thrill Waterpark.

The park, accessed just off the arrivals plaza, is not included in your cruise fare and you will need to purchase entry via the shore excursions desk on your ship (or online before your cruise). Once you're paid up, just scan your SeaPass card for entry.

The thrill zone is divided into several sections. You'll find a wave pool, an Adventure Pool with watery obstacle courses, Daredevil's Peak with its seven slides (including drop slides, a nearly vertical slide and racing slides) and Splash Summit, the more family-focused slide area. Here, you can try a one- or two-person raft slide, a four-person raft slide that races up a wall before splashing back down and four-way racing slides.

You must be a minimum of 48 inches tall to ride most Devil's Tower waterslides (40 inches for the twin racing slides). The minimum height for the Splash Summit slides is 42 inches, though for the raft slides, you must be 48 inches to ride without a life jacket or adult supervision. Prepare to step on a scale before being allowed to climb the stairs up the slide towers.

cococay jet tour

Amenities in the water park include plenty of lounge chairs, cabanas for rent, lockers, a Snack Shack and a bar to give mom and dad some liquid courage.

Note: There's little natural shade in this area, and it can get hot walking between the slides or from the splashdown pool back up to the top of the slide to ride again. For maximum enjoyment, visit the water park first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon when the lines have died down. No one wants to wait 45 minutes in the hot sun for a ride.

Cruisers looking for some high-flying adventure with excellent island views can sign up to ride Perfect Day at CocoCay's zip line (for a fee). The 1,600-foot course has three segments that go over the Thrill Waterpark and the Harbor Lagoon.

You'll need to purchase zip line access as you would any shore excursion, and then check in on the island near the Thrill Waterpark entrance. Lockers are available to store your valuables while you ride. You must be at least 4 feet tall and between 75 and 275 pounds to ride.

Captain Jill's Galleon and Splashaway Bay

Little kids have their own water play spaces on Perfect Day at CocoCay, and unlike the main water park, they're free to use.

Captain Jill's Galleon is a pirate ship-shaped play structure with slides, water cannons and fountains. It's perfect for the littlest cruisers, but grownups can enjoy the views from the top.

Splashaway Bay on the island is similar to the onboard versions with a climbing structure, water sprayers, dump bucket and tame waterslides for younger visitors. Get there early if you want to snag a seat in the shade.

Children in swim diapers are allowed in all pools, beaches and water play areas on the island.

cococay jet tour

Oasis Lagoon

Tired of the beach? Perfect Day at CocoCay also has a huge pool called the Oasis Lagoon for those who prefer a more chlorinated, less wavy dip.

Families tend to stick to the far end of the pool with its sloping entry and gentle fountains. The party crowd gathers around the swim-up bar and its blaring DJ beats. (Seriously, it's the spring break I never had, and a mecca for all the bachelor, bachelorette and birthday groups.) Wandering bartenders will sell you crazy cocktails in souvenir glasses, so you won't go thirsty when you climb out of the pool to dry off.

A nice hybrid area is the section of pool on the other side of the bridge, where you can hear the music but aren't in the bar fray.

The pool has numerous little nooks where you can find in-the-water seats and tables for your drinks or undulating loungers in the shallows. The pool is surrounded by plenty of loungers, rinse-off showers, bathrooms, racks of swim vests and rental cabanas.

The closest lunch options to the pool are the Breezy Bay Snack Shack and Skipper's Grill.

Up, Up and Away balloon ride

I've visited Perfect Day at CocoCay twice, and I've never seen the Up, Up and Away tethered balloon ride in action. A spokesperson for the line tells me it "is temporarily closed for maintenance until further notice."

The colorful helium balloon can be seen around the island, and when it's operational, guests can book 10-minute rides to soar 450 feet into the air. The balloon is tethered, so you only go up and down rather than circling the island.

cococay jet tour

Beach rentals

You can rent floating mats from three stations, one on South Beach and two on Chill Island. You can pick up snorkel gear for personal use at the snorkel shack on Chill Island near Seaside Point.

Sports and games

If you need a free adrenaline boost on the island, you can get your competitive spirit going at two sports pavilions on Perfect Day at CocoCay. One is located at Breezy Bay and the other on South Beach.

cococay jet tour

At the pavilions, you'll find hard and sand courts for basketball, volleyball, cornhole/baggo and other games. All are free to use.

You will not find any crew-led games for kids on the island.

What are the excursions at Perfect Day?

In addition to the major activities and attractions on island, you can book several excursions that will take you off the island — or at least out into the water. Personally, I'd save my excursion budget for a different island since the complimentary pools and beaches are so nice (or for the water park), but you've got a few nice options if you're interested in water sports.

cococay jet tour

Tours include:

  • Certified scuba dive with or without equipment
  • One-hour glass bottom boat ride
  • Guided kayak adventure in two-person kayaks
  • Kayak and snorkel adventure combo (guided kayak plus independent snorkeling)
  • Guided Wave Jet tour on a Sea-Doo jet ski
  • Reef snorkeling by boat
  • Sandbar getaway with snorkeling and water toys
  • Swiming pigs tour in the northern Berry Islands

Does Perfect Day at CocoCay offer cabanas to rent?

cococay jet tour

If you want to reserve a private space on the island, you have options ranging from beach beds to overwater cabanas. You'll need to decide what type of exclusive hangout you desire, as well as where on the island you'd like it be.

Note that pricing will vary by cruise and cabana location. Royal Caribbean lists prices per daybed or cabana, not per person.

Royal Caribbean rents beach beds on Breezy Bay, Chill Island and South Beach. The double beds sit atop a wooden platform with a full roof and open sides, with curtains for some measure of privacy. Your rental comes with two lounge chairs with an umbrella, two floating mats, a cooler with four complimentary bottles of water and towels.

The price you'll pay is per bed, not per person, and each bed can accommodate four people.

If you're looking for a more substantial retreat, you also have several options for cabana rentals on Perfect Day.

cococay jet tour

Chill Island cabanas

The Chill Island Cabanas are located at the end of Chill Island by Breezy Bay, farthest from the ship. The attendant noted that while they're situated on a lovely protected bay, the cabanas are far from the island's amenities. If you want to hide away in your cabana all day, they're a great choice, but if you want a more interactive or social beach day, South Beach might be a better bet.

Each cabana is a wooden hut with an open front, thatched roof and front patio area. The interior is furnished with a sectional sofa, cooler stocked with complimentary water and a storage chest. Four lounge chairs sit out front.

A cabana attendant will bring you drinks (at going rates) and food from the Snack Shack menu, as well as towels during your stay.

Each cabana can hold eight people for the same price. You can add two more (for a total of 10) for $50 per person more.

Oasis Lagoon cabanas

The Oasis Lagoon cabanas are identical to the Chill Island versions, except they're nestled in the greenery on the outskirts of Perfect Day at CocoCay's gigantic pool. They're a great place to crash after some hard partying by the swim-up bar, or for parents to relax with kids tuckered out from playing in the pool's shallow area.

These cabanas have a hard limit of eight people.

cococay jet tour

South Beach cabanas

The South Beach cabanas are the same thatched-roof hideouts that you'll find on Chill Island or by the Oasis Lagoon, but they're located on the middle of South Beach between Coco Beach Club and the South Beach daybed area.

The cabana base rate is for eight occupants, but you can pay $50 extra per person to add another two guests (for a total of 10).

cococay jet tour

Thrill Waterpark cabanas

The Thrill Waterpark cabanas are the perfect places for parents to relax while their offspring get wet and wild on the slides and in the active pools.

The brightly colored cabanas are scattered throughout the water park. They're more of a basic design than the thatched-roof cabanas — simply a platform with four wooden posts holding up privacy curtains and an umbrella-style roof. The cabanas are outfitted with a sectional sofa, resort chairs, two outlets and a cooler and a couple of lounge chairs with a shade umbrella in front.

Cabana attendants will bring you food and extra-fee drinks. Your fee includes passes for up to six people to the water park. You can invite two more guests for $50 per person, but they will also need to purchase water park day passes individually.

cococay jet tour

Coco Beach Club is the exclusive, restricted-access area of Perfect Day. You have three options for how to gain entrance to this private beach area with its infinity pool and upscale restaurant.

cococay jet tour

The most affordable option (though it's not cheap by any means) is to purchase a day pass to the beach club. This will give you access to the pool, restaurant and bar, and the loungers and umbrellas on the private beach area.

Or, you can upgrade with a beach cabana, located along the exclusive beachfront. These are a more upscale version of the cabanas found throughout the island.

The thatched roof huts are open on all four sides with privacy curtains, and feature a deck with four wooden loungers and a shade umbrella. Inside, relax on a chic sectional sofa or padded resort chairs. There's locked storage, a minifridge, charging outlets and complimentary snorkel gear.

If you really want to live it up, go all out with a floating cabana, which Royal Caribbean claims are the first overwater bungalows in the Bahamas. They're set on a dock jutting out from the beach and have similar furnishings to the beach cabanas with the addition of a circular dining table for four and a wet bar. Each also has its own slide into the sea, a two-person overwater hammock and a freshwater shower.

cococay jet tour

Each of the 10 beach cabanas and 20 overwater bungalows accommodates eight people and comes with the services of a cabana attendant. For the overwater cabanas, if you wish to add one or two guests, you'll need to pay $50 per person extra plus the cost of a Beach Club pass. Even in this extra-free enclave, you'll need to pay extra for all drinks you order (unless you previously purchased a beverage package).

Is food included on Perfect Day at CocoCay?

Yes, multiple venues serve a complimentary barbecue lunch on Perfect Day at CocoCay.

cococay jet tour

The two main venues are Skipper's Grill (overlooking the Harbor Lagoon, just past Splashaway Bay on the main path) and Chill Grill (between Harbor Beach and Chill Island). They serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with stations for burgers and hot dogs, grilled chicken, tacos, salads, fruit and desserts (don't miss the caramel brownies). Both have drinks stations, soft-serve ice cream machines and a bar.

Seating is at colorful picnic tables with shade umbrellas.

cococay jet tour

You don't have to trek across the island for lunch if you've chosen lounge chairs away from the grills. Three Snack Shack outposts — one inside Thrill Waterpark, one on South Beach and one between the Oasis Lagoon and Breezy Bay — ensure you're never far from a meal.

The Snack Shacks are huts with multiple order-up windows where you can access a more limited menu than at Skipper's or Chill Grill. You can choose from sandwiches (burgers, hot dogs, crispy chicken), various salads, mozzarella sticks, french fries and dessert (including funnel cakes). You'll find drinks and fruit, too.

Take your selections back to your lounge chair or grab a spot at a nearby picnic table. Snack Shacks are open longer hours, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

cococay jet tour

If you've paid for access to the Coco Beach Club, you will dine at its upscale restaurant and can order dishes such as lobster and steak unavailable at the island's grill venues.

Unlike the other restaurants on the island, Beach Club passholders still need to make reservations for lunch times at the restaurant. Make them on board on embarkation day; if you wait until you're on the island, the earlier dining times will likely be taken.

Captain Jack's, the large bar located at the entrance of the park, has a food counter serving chicken wings and steak fries for an extra fee from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It seems silly to me to pay for food at the bar when the complimentary Skipper's Grill is a short walk away, but if you're buzzing and don't want to leave the bar, know you have snacks close at hand.

cococay jet tour

Does my drink package work on Perfect Day at CocoCay?

You are never far from a beer or frozen cocktail on Perfect Day at CocoCay. Even better, unlike at some other cruise line private islands, your onboard drink package is accepted on the island. Just show your SeaPass with its special sticker and you won't have to pay another cent for your pina coladas or White Claws.

cococay jet tour

The island has eight named bars and five nameless bar stands. Roving waiters will take orders and bring drinks to your lounge chair, as well.

The bars on Perfect Day at CocoCay include:

Captain Jack's Bar: The first bar you'll see, right by the arrivals plaza, has covered and uncovered seating, a row of swing seats and a stage for live music.

Oasis Lagoon Bar: The pool's swim-up bar is usually packed, but if you get out and walk around to the land-based side, you'll find hardly any customers.

cococay jet tour

Wacky Seagull and Wacky Seagull Jr. Bars: These bars service either end of Chill Island. You'll find one by the beach rentals kiosk and the other by the shore excursions kiosk. The signature drink here is the Coco Loco.

The Cracked Coconut Bar: This bar serves the Harbor Beach crowd and is a fun place to watch the zip liners come flying by.

Floating Bar: Its name tells you all you need to know. This bar on a raft just off South Beach quickly gets loud and rowdy with the party crowd. It's surrounded by palapa-covered tables in the water and circular floating mats.

South Beach Bar: This is the closest watering hole to the South Beach cabanas and daybeds and Cove Beach.

Coconut Willie's Bar: The land-based bar on South Beach is close to the sports courts.

Is there shopping on Perfect Day at CocoCay?

cococay jet tour

Whether you're looking for souvenirs or need to pick up the sunscreen or swim goggles you forgot to pack, you can find what you're looking for at the shops of the CocoCay Island Market between the central portion of Chill Island and Harbor Beach. You can also get your hair braided.

There's also a CocoCay Logo Shop across from Splashaway Bay, by the back exit of the water park.

All shops will accept U.S. dollars or your SeaPass card as payment.

What additional amenities will I find?

cococay jet tour

Restrooms and beach showers are scattered throughout the island and are well marked on the maps. You'll also find towel exchange kiosks, designated smoking areas, lockers and first aid stations.

You can check out towels from the ship or once on shore, but you must return to the ship with the same number of towels you took with you and check back in with the towel station just after the security screening. You cannot return wet towels on the island unless you initially checked them out from an onshore kiosk.

The island is Wi-Fi-enabled with Royal Caribbean's Voom internet. Your onboard Wi-Fi package will get you access on the island as well.

Beach wheelchairs and beach strollers with extra-thick tires for navigating Perfect Day at CocoCay's sandy shores are available to borrow throughout the island.

Can you stay overnight on Perfect Day at CocoCay?

You can only have a perfect day and not a perfect night on CocoCay.

You'll see plenty of beds on the island, but they're daybeds for rent. Your cruise ship will leave the island in the afternoon, and the only people who spend the night are a handful of staff members who live on the island.

What's the typical weather like ?

The Bahamas has great weather year-round. Expect highs in the low 80s during the winter and low 90s during the summer. You won't find a ton of natural shade when walking around Perfect Day at CocoCay, and the sun is incredibly strong. Reapply sunscreen more often than you think you need to, to avoid burning!

The rainiest months here are June, August and September. Hurricane season runs June through November, with the peak time for storms August through October. Your ship will not call on Perfect Day if conditions are unsafe.

Don't let a rainy forecast get you down. Like in other tropical destinations, rain showers tend to pass quickly and you can see them coming. I got caught in a downpour for about an hour on my most recent visit, so I hid under an umbrella and ate lunch. Before and after the shower, I enjoyed the beach, pool and attractions with no problem.

Note that if lightning is seen, the lifeguards are required to send everyone out of the water until they get the all-clear.

Perfect Day at CocoCay may not show up on major weather websites, but you can search on the Berry Islands or Great Harbour Cay in the Bahamas to come close.

Can I see a Perfect Day at CocoCay map?

Sure! Here is a map of the island to help you plan your day. You can also find a map in your Royal Caribbean app, but it's awkward because you have to zoom in too much to see anything clearly. Your best bet is to pick up a paper map at your ship's shore excursions desk before you head out to the island.

It is about 140 miles from Miami!

What are the Best Cococay Excursions?

However, you will have to book directly with Royal Caribbean.  You can do this by logging into your Royal Caribbean account or booking these Coco Cay shore excursions through the app.

Cococay Excursions

This image above is what is offered for Coco cay shore excursions when you actually arrive at Perfect Day at Coco Cay.  There are not as many options compared to what you will find online.

If you know you want to experience Perfect Day at Coco Cay,  make sure to book a cruise itinerary that includes this stop!

Let's get started with the best Cococay Excursions.

1. Thrill Water Park

Thrill Water Park is one of the best Caribbean water parks! It has the tallest slide tower in North America and the largest wave pool in the Caribbean.

There are 13 slides and two main pools: Adventure Pool and the Wave Pool.

Admission Cost

The cost of a Thrill Water Park full-day pass depends on what time of year you are going and what ship you are on.  It can range from $55 to over $100.  We went during Spring Break and it was around $100 per person.

Coco Cay Water Park

Thrill water park is designed for older kids and teens.  If your kids are under 40 inches this Coco Cay shore excursion is not for you.  There are other areas on Coco Cay that are free and more fun for little ones.

All of the rides on Devils Tower require you to be 48″.  There are some family rides on the Splash Summit Tower with a height minimum requirement of 40″ if they wear a lifejacket.

Great For Older Kids and Teens

We took a 9, 13, and 15 year old and it was perfect. They loved this Cococay excursion! We played at Thrill Water Park most of the day and then checked out the other free options on the island.

2. Zip Line at Coco Cay

Perfect Day at Cococay has a 1600 ft zipline that soars above the island.  If you like a thrill zip-lining is the perfect Cococay excursion to try out.

We loved watching the participants soar over the Thrill Water Park.  It was really cool!

Admission:  $79 – $139

Prices will be higher during peak season.  You can also buy a combo ticket that includes the zip line and Thrill Water Park.  This ticket is $99 -$179.

Height Requirement : 48 inches

Minimum/Maximum weight: 75lbs to 275lbs

Duration: 45 minutes

3. Swim with Pigs Cococay Excursions

Have you ever wanted to swim with pigs? It's a thing in the Bahamas! Swimming with pigs is a Cococay excursion that you can book ahead of time.  There is also a booth located on Cococay where you can check to see if they have any open spots for the tour.

Duration: 1.5 hours

Treasure Island

If you decide to do this Cococay excursion you will take a speedboat to Treasure Island.  The island hosts the swimming pigs.  One important thing to know is that the pigs do most of the swimming (not you).  You will enter the water no more than waist deep and feed the pigs.

Prices vary depending on the time of year. This is one of the top Cococay Bahamas excursions.

4. Jet Ski Cococay Royal Caribbean Excursion

A jet ski excursion is a fun Cococay excursion! Prices vary depending on the time of year however one thing that holds true is that the driver pays a higher price and the passenger pays a much lower price.

Bahamas Jet Ski

The jet ski adventure is a tour.  There will be about 10 jet skis following a leader.  The water is so wonderful and calm around the island on most days.

5. Up Up and Away Helium Balloon

The helium balloon is an awesome Cococay excursion to consider.  The balloon actually goes 450 ft in the air.  This is the highest vantage point in all of the Bahamas.

Duration: 20 minutes

Admission : $39-$99 depending on the season

Unfortunately, when we went it was too windy.  The balloon was not operating! Weather conditions determine if this option will be available.

6. Kayak Adventure

A Cococay excursion to consider is a Kayak Adventure.  This is a guided tour.  The guide will teach you how to paddle and will show you sea life as you explore around the island.

Duration : 1.5 Hours

Admission : $43

You can also combine a Kayak Adventure with Snorkel Gear Package for $72.

7. Glass Bottom Boat Tour

The Glass Bottom Boat Tour is a great Cococay excursion.  It is perfect for those of you who do not want to swim in the ocean but still want to see all the coral reefs and tropical fish.

Duration : 1.5 hours

Admission: Starting at $42

8. Parasail Cococay Excursion

When we went to Cococay, parasailing was not an option.  You will have to check and see if this is offered during your stop at Perfect Day.

Duration : 1 Hour Total with 5-6 minutes in the air

9. Scuba Dive with or without Equipment

Scuba Diving is an option for a Cococay Excursion.  This is a one-tank dive in shallow water around the island.  The maximum depth is 40ft.  There are a lot of coral reefs and tropical fish.  There are no shipwrecks or swim-throughs.  It is a pretty basic dive.

To do this excursion you will need to be certified and have completed at least one open dive within the past year.

10. Sting Ray City

Sting Ray City is probably one of the best Bahamas excursions.  It is amazing to be so close to the sting rays.  You will get to spend 45 full minutes swimming with the sting rays.  The water can be a little chilly in the winter months.

This Cococay excursion is not always available.  You will have to look on your app when you book your cruise to see.

Oh Wow! This looks like so much fun. I’m already booking.

We want to book another one too!

I had no idea they owned an island! It looks like a really fun place to go for the day though.

It is such a cool place!

This looks exciting! Haven’t been to the Caribbean or on a cruise yes. And I had no idea they owned the island. From those I would bee keen to try Zip line, but only after my sting ray and pig swim 🙂 After I would also fo for kayaking. Such a cool place to spend your day.

It is a really cool place to spend the day!

I knew about Castaway Cay – Disney’s private island – but I had no idea Royal Caribbean had one too! Wouldn’t mind trying some of those activities, especially swimming with pigs, the water park, and scuba diving.

We did the water park and it was really fun!

Wow!! This looks like so much fun! I would definitely love to swim with the pigs and the stingrays. But also the diving experience looks amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Perfect Day is such a fun place!

How do you book the Stingray tour – it isn’t an option on the Royal Caribbean website?

There is a booth on Perfect Day, where you can book any excursion they have available. Sting Ray City may only be available from the other Bahamas stop.

Everything You Should Know About Royal Caribbean's Private Island, Perfect Day at CocoCay

Here’s what you need to know about Perfect Day at CocoCay before your next Royal Caribbean voyage.

Getting There

Things to do on perfect day at cococay, dining on perfect day at cococay, family-friendly activities, adults-only activities, tips for visiting.

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean

Private islands aren't only for billionaires — they're for cruise lines, too. Many Royal Caribbean cruises include a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas. Spanning 125 acres, Perfect Day at CocoCay has a little bit of everything for everyone, whether you're seeking some laid-back beach time, family fun at a water park, or a Vegas-style pool party.

The island underwent a $250 million overhaul in 2019, and its list of attractions includes the tallest waterslide in North America (one of 13 waterslides in total), overwater cabanas, a 1,600-foot zip line, and an adults-only zone. The renovation also added a two-ship-capacity pier to the island, so guests can simply walk off their ship and onto the island rather than take a tender.

If you want to book excursions or private cabanas for Perfect Day at CocoCay, do so as early as possible. Excursions are bookable online before your cruise's departure — although Royal Caribbean tends to periodically unlock excursions rather than open all bookings at once. Check around six months prior to departure to see what's available. Anything that's left at the time of departure can be booked onboard.

Ready to plan your adventure at Perfect Day at CocoCay? I recently visited during a sailing on the new Icon of the Seas , so here's everything you need to know about Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas.

Royal Caribbean's fleet is enormous, with a whopping 26 ships — and counting. Many of them spend the entire year in the Caribbean, and that means you can visit Perfect Day at CocoCay any month of the year. Of course, not every single sailing calls at this port, so be sure to check the itinerary before booking.

Once your ship pulls alongside the pier at Perfect Day at CocoCay, you'll have anywhere from eight to 10 hours to explore the island. Depending on the day, your ship might be the only one at the pier, or you might be sharing it with another Royal vessel. In the latter case, there might be more than 10,000 guests on the island at once.

After you make your way down the pier, you're greeted by island staff, who can guide you to the attractions. At this point, you can hop on a free tram to bring you to some of the more distant areas, like the adults-only Hideaway Beach or the family-friendly Breezy Bay at Chill Island. But the whole island is also walkable, and it takes about 15 minutes to get from one end to the other. Beach-access wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis, too — ask a crew member to point you in the right direction.

The only things you need to bring onto Perfect Day at CocoCay are your SeaPass Card and a towel — towels are handed out onboard before heading to the island unless you've booked a cabana, where towels are provided. There are a few towel-swapping stations on the island if you need a fresh one.

While general admission to Perfect Day at CocoCay is free, certain zones and attractions do require a fee. As such, I'll be sharing things to do on the island in two sections: complimentary activities and ones that come at an extra cost.

Free Things to Do

For zero charge, guests have access to Splashaway Bay and Captain Jill's Galleon (two splash pads for kids); Oasis Lagoon (the Caribbean's largest freshwater pool, spanning three-quarters of an acre); and the beaches Breezy Bay at Chill Island and South Beach (loungers are free, but daybeds and cabanas must be rented for a fee).

Options Available for a Fee

For an extra charge, the fun really kicks in. Thrill Waterpark, with 13 slides and a wave pool; the 1,600-foot zip line; and Up, Up, and Away (a helium balloon ride) all cost extra. You must also pay to enter the exclusive Coco Beach Club and Hideaway Beach zones — the former is where you'll find the overwater cabanas, while the latter is the adults-only beach club. Other extra activities include snorkel and kayak rentals, as well as formal excursions, such as jet skiing and scuba diving.

Dining is included at Skipper's Grill, Chill Grill, and Snack Shacks on Perfect Day at CocoCay; here, you can find burgers, tacos, sandwiches, salads, and even soft-serve ice cream. Then there's the restaurant Captain Jack’s, which is known for its chicken wings, where you have to pay per dish. If you pay to enter Coco Beach Club, your admission includes dining at a Mediterranean restaurant. Similarly, Hideaway Beach admission covers food at its Snack Shack and Slice of Paradise pizza bar.

The food at Hideaway Beach was a highlight of my afternoon ashore. At the Snack Shack, the ceviche was a stunner, with a touch of spiciness that was perfect with a sweet piña colada. And the mozzarella sticks hit the spot, too. At Slice of Paradise, I was impressed that the menu included Bahamian seafood escabeche pizza, a nod to a favorite local dish.

Royal Caribbean is a family-friendly cruise line , and pretty much all of Perfect Day at CocoCay is family-friendly — except for Hideaway Beach, which is a designated adults-only zone.

If your kids are looking for some action, there's plenty to keep them entertained. Toddlers might enjoy the splash pads at Captain Jill's Galleon or Splashaway Bay, while older kids might want to head straight for Thrill Waterpark with towering waterslides and a wave pool. Then there are the "dry" activities like the 1,600-foot zip line and the helium-filled balloon ride.

For a more relaxing island day, consider visiting one of the three family-friendly beaches, where you'll find free loungers and free beach strollers on a first-come, first-served basis. If you'd prefer a pool, Oasis Lagoon has a zero-entry cove. And if you'd like to maximize privacy, consider booking a cabana for the whole family. The Coco Beach overwater cabanas are the star of the show, each with a two-person overwater hammock, a slide into the sea, a private shower, and concierge service.

Interestingly, there's no dedicated daycare or kids club on the island, so sorry parents — you'll have to bring your kids with you. That said, Adventure Ocean will remain open onboard your ship, so you can drop off the kids if you want to slip out to Hideaway Beach for a few hours.

As I visited Perfect Day at CocoCay without kids, I made a beeline for Hideaway Beach, the adults-only area of the island. Admission comes at a cost — anywhere from $39 to $89, depending on the day. But if you're looking for a Vegas-style pool party — with club music blasting throughout the majority of the horseshoe-shaped cove — this is where you'll find it. There's a DJ in the middle of the lagoon-style pool, where you'll find a swim-up bar, too. (That's just one of four bars here, mind you.) Island staff were even walking around with Champagne water guns, shooting right into the mouths of thirsty guests. Find a little more peace over on the far side of the beach, where the cabanas with semi-private pools are located. The music drifts over here, but no speakers are pumping it in. I spent the majority of my afternoon in a hammock on this calmer side of the beach.

  • Use the app to book activities and excursions, like a ride down the zip line and entrance to the beach clubs and water park.
  • Speaking of the zip line, closed-toe shoes are a requirement, so bring a pair ashore if you plan on riding it.
  • The crowds are usually largest in the morning, as many guests head back to the ship in the afternoon. Consider heading ashore later in the day for less congestion.
  • If you've paid for Wi-Fi on the ship, you'll also have access to Wi-Fi on the island. Similarly, drink packages extend to all the bars on Perfect Day at CocoCay.
  • Don't forget to bring your towel back onboard. If you don't return your towel, you'll be charged $25.
  • The slides do have height requirements and weight limits. Minimum height requirements are usually 42 or 48 inches tall, while maximum weight limits top out at 300 pounds per person.
  • If you plan on shopping at the straw market, bring some cash — vendors can't charge purchases to your SeaPass.
  • Lockers and showers are available on the island, though you can return to the ship and come back ashore as many times as you want.

Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay: The Complete Guide

A number of cruise lines have private islands, most of which are located in the Caribbean. While a few of these tropical oases feature modest splash pads and a couple of small water slides, Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay boasts a full-fledged water park packed with an incredible array of slides—including one of the tallest in the world.

Boasting a price tag of $250 million, the refuge is quite impressive and has proven so popular, the cruise line offers 80 itineraries that include stops there. The water park makes the biggest splash, but there are many other things to experience on the island. Let’s run down what you could expect when you spend a “perfect day” at CocoCay.

Getting to and Around Perfect Day at CocoCay

There’s only one way to visit the Bahamian island, and that’s by booking a cruise aboard Royal Caribbean . There are a number of ships that stop at the getaway, including ones that originate from ports in Florida and elsewhere with itineraries ranging from two to nine nights. The ships dock at the island, so there is no need to transfer using a tender.

CocoCay is large enough to offer a wide variety of activities spread among a number of areas, but small enough to easily get around on foot. Nothing is more than about a 10-minute walk away. For guests that prefer hitching a ride, there is a tram that winds its way around the island.

How to Experience the Water Park Areas

There are three water park areas at CocoCay, all located adjacent to one another. Two of them are complimentary, while the third, which Royal Caribbean refers to as “Thrill Waterpark,” requires an additional fee. The cost varies from $54 to $99 per person depending on the season. Passes can be purchased onboard at the ship’s excursions desk.

Thrill Waterpark has two water slide towers. The one that pierces the skyline is the 135-foot-tall Daredevil’s Tower. At the top of the tower is Daredevil’s Peak , which earned Royal Caribbean bragging rights as the tallest water slide in North America. (While that was true when it opened in 2019, it’s since been eclipsed by a 142-foot-tall slide at DreamWorks Water Park, part of the American Dream complex in New Jersey .) Daredevil’s Peak is undeniably tall, but it may not be as thrilling as you might expect. Because the slide winds around the tower instead of heading straight down, sliders don’t accelerate to especially fast speeds.

If you're looking for bigger thrills, you'll get them on two of the other slides down Daredevil’s Tower. For Dueling Demons , which starts at the 75-foot-level, passengers get into one of two launch chambers . After a countdown, a trap door opens and you'll drop, in a near-vertical position, into the slide. Between the anticipation of the launch and the zippy ride down the slide, Dueling Demons is plenty nerve wracking (in a good way). Likewise, Screeching Serpent will get your adrenaline pumping; the speed slide, which starts at a nearly 90-degree angle, is a straight shot 50 feet down. The tower’s other two slides are fairly mild: Green Mamba , a typical enclosed body slide, includes some twists and turns, while the two open flume slides on Manta Racers only have a 40-inch height requirement and are especially tame.

The park’s other tower, Splash Summit, has three water slides. On the most extreme one, Sling Shot , four passengers board a cloverleaf raft, drop down an enclosed tube, and soar up and down a halfpipe element before being deposited in a splash pool. Splash Speedway is a multi-lane mat racing slide, and Twister sends sliders down an enclosed tube on two-person rafts. Rounding out Thrill Waterpark is a wave pool—billed as the largest in the Caribbean—and an activity pool with swing ropes, lily pad walks, and a climbing wall.

Just outside the park is Splashaway Bay and Captain Jill’s Galleon, two interactive water play areas with tipping buckets, fountains, water cannons, and small slides. Both areas are geared to younger children.

By the way, the water park fun doesn’t end when the ships pull away from CocoCay. Onboard slides and attractions vary by ship. Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas, for example, offers an uphill water coaster, a single rider mat slide, and a FlowRider that generates waves for boogie board surfing.

Top Activities at CocoCay

Thrill Waterpark notwithstanding, it should be noted that most of the activities (including most of the food served) at CocoCay are complimentary. Cruise line passengers who don’t want to test their mettle on the wacky slides can still enjoy the island without spending an extra dime. There are, however, a couple of intriguing extra-charge attractions they might want to consider.

If the summit of Daredevil’s Tower doesn't get you high enough, you could soar some 450 feet above CocoCay aboard Up, Up, and Away , a tethered helium balloon. The 10-minute experience offers commanding views of the island, the docked cruise ship, and the Bahamian waters. The ride is gentle and should be accessible and enjoyable for nearly everyone, except those who have a crippling fear of heights or vertigo. Fees, which vary seasonally, are approximately $39 for adults and $24 for children 4 to 12.

Guests can also get a bird’s-eye view of CocoCay by giving its zip line a whirl. The 1,600-foot course traverses the water park and the island’s harbor. Prices are about $79.

Other upcharge excursion activities at CocoCay include wave jet tours on Sea-Doo personal boats as either a driver or passenger, parasailing, reef snorkeling, kayaking, a glass-bottom boat tour, and an opportunity to hop into the water with swimming pigs .

Spend a Perfect Day by (and in) the Water

There are plenty of places throughout the island to stake out a lounge chair and enjoy the water. Wrapping around the eastern side of CocoCay is the largest beach, Chill Island, which includes a series of coves with breakers to keep the surf from anything more than “chill.” Other places to catch some rays and dips into the ocean are Harbor Beach and South Beach.

For those who would prefer to avoid salt water, Oasis Lagoon offers an enormous pool—the largest in the Caribbean, according to the cruise line—with a large swim-up bar.

The chairs and umbrellas are complimentary, but guests could opt to rent a floating beach mat, a beach bed, or, for beaucoup bucks, a cabana that accommodates either six or eight people. For even more pampering, the island offers Coco Beach Club. To access the exclusive area, visitors have to rent either a beach or an overwater cabana that accommodates eight, with prices starting at $999. Coco Beach Club includes an infinity pool, a private clubhouse, and dining with more upscale fare than is offered at the island’s other restaurants.

Where to Eat, Drink, and Shop

There are four dining locations around the island that serve up complimentary fare—including sandwiches, BBQ, and salads—sourced and prepared by the ship's culinary crew. The bars and dining spots at CocoCay honor Royal Caribbean’s beverage packages. Note that the eateries only serve lunch (breakfast and dinner are available on the ship).

There are a surprising number of shops at the island’s Straw Market and other locations. Items include CocoCay-branded T-shirts, hats, and other merchandise, as well as Bahamian crafts and beach gear.

Tips for Perfect Day at CocoCay

  • The lines for the major slides at Thrill Waterpark, especially Daredevil’s Peak, can get long; try to avoid the mid-morning crowds by disembarking as soon as the ship's crew allows you to, typically at 9 a.m.
  • There aren’t a ton of hammocks on the island, but there are a few, and there is no additional charge to use them. You can find some behind the Snorkel Shack on Chill Island as well as behind Oasis Lagoon at Chill Beach.
  • Chill Beach is also where you can find a volleyball court, cornhole, and other games. There are also a bunch of beanbag chairs for lounging.
  • Be sure to bring footwear. Some of the beach sand is coarse and contains small rocks and shells. There are bins to stow shoes at the water slides.
  • Some of the the shops only accept cash, so you might want to bring money.
  • If you are planning to experience the zip line, bring closed-toe shoes. They are required to ride.
  • Consider purchasing Thrill Waterpark passes and other extra-charge activities in advance. You might be able to score deals prior to your cruise. Check to see if Royal Caribbean has any special offers, including discounted packages that combine water park passes with other on-island activities such as its zip line or helium balloon experience.

CocoCay - Wave Jet Tour - for beginners?

Is this activity truly for beginners, as mentioned in the description?

Is it possible to tip it over? (Serious question) What happens if you were to fall off?

I'd love to try to it but that concerns me, as a beginner.

Thank you for your help.

Pretty impossible to tip it over unless you're really trying to -- they're like a snowmobile, short and wide. If you somehow manage to fall off, you're wearing a life jacket, so you float around.  You also have a lanyard that connects you to the machine... when the lanyard gets yanked out (when you fall off), the machine turns off, so it can't drive away without you. They also have an employee at the front of the line and the back of the line, so you can't get left behind. You can go at your own pace, just putt-putt-putt along, if you want.

Thanks for posting this. I was actually looking at this excursion. Done a lot of ATV tours, but havn't tried wave runners before.

lazydayz

This tour is really fun.  If you want to go fast, they let you go near the front.  It is follow the leader, and when others get too far behind, the ones in front have to stop and wait.  Communication is good, and with staff in the front and back, I felt safe.  And I agree, it would be difficult to tip one over or fall off.

matj2000

You are better off renting a jet ski from one of the vender on any public beach.

That way you can ride at your own leisure and don't have to play follow the leader with a group.

And you will most likely be less expensive..

I do NOT recommend a beginner rent on their own... you need someone to show you what to do and ensure you're doing okay before going off on your own.

Oh please. My boys were 15&16 on our last cruise and rented a jet ski in st Martin. It was their first time and they did just fine. It’s really not that hard

No, it's not that hard, but the OP sounds quite timid about the whole thing, whereas I'm going to hazard a guess that your teenage boys didn't have even the slightest niggling of a qualm over jumping on a machine and taking off.  (I know mine wouldn't have at an even younger age.) Some people don't have the same confidence as others, and someone who feels insecure in the whole idea would be better off in a more controlled situation where they have attentive instructors nearby.

SRF

I agree that this it is fine for beginners.  They give you a safety briefing and go over the operation of the machine.

While it is follow the leader, the leader runs pretty much flat out.  And they try to put people in a slot based on their experience and how fast they say they will go.  The beginners are put at the back.  I have done it several times, and run at full throttle the entire ride most every time.

Everyone is allowed to run at their own pace.  As said, there is a leader and a person at the back to assist and keep track of the slower riders.   The group stops every so often to allow the group to get back together.  And do things like check out star fish and such.  They will also re-order the group if someone near the front is running slower or someone at the back is running faster.  If you are being held up by the rider in front of you, tell the leader at the first stop and they will move you up the line.

If you fall off, the motor stops (kill lanyard), and you swim over (lifejackets are worn) and climb back on.  And the trail rider will stop and help if needed.  I don't think I have every seen someone fall off.  They are pretty stable.

If you rest from an private operator on the beach, watch the scams.  Search Thailand Wave Runner or Jet Ski Scams.

Except they do train you, give you a safety lesson, and show you what to do.  How does a beginner start, without first starting?  You are not on your own, but a group of people, with at least 2 guides with you at all times.  Just let them know your skill level, and you will be placed in the back of the line.....until figure it out.

Yes you can fall off, but the jet ski won't tip over, but it does lean, and you can catch some waves.  However, not very likely, and you do have a kill switch and life jacket.

He was replying to someone who suggested just renting one from a operator at some beach.

NOT the Royal excursion.

A beach operator may not give you any instruction and there will be no guides.  And if you damage the vessel, you will have to pay for it.

Did you even read this thread?   🙄 My comment was referring to a timid beginner being told to go rent a machine from some random beach dude at another port rather than take the supervised Royal excursion at Coco Cay.    If you had bothered to read my first post, I also mentioned everything you said, including the two guides, the kill switch, and the life jacket.

Please note......I am replying to you specific......see how it shows up?  The poster is talking about a RCCL excursion at Coco Cay, and I responded to that.....but you seem not to know how these boards work.  By the way, you can't rent a jet ski at Coco Cay from someone else outside of RCCL.

How would I know that?  You see I'm replying to your answer by quoting you.  Your response, not be quoted, is replying to the original post, and some after it.  No need to question my reading ability.  But this is a Coco Cay question, not anything else.

Wave Runners are very easy to ride.

You don't lessons, education, or long instruction

Basically get on and go.

I recommend renting your own at any beach every...

Hello! I've read all of the answers here, which includes very good info! However, I will explain my personal experience as a first-timer to riding a jet ski. First off, I am in my late 60's and weigh 250#. My bucket list included riding a jet ski! Our ship docked at Labadee (not CocoCay) and hubby and I booked the ship's excursion. I, too, had some anxiety about it, mainly because, if I fell off, I was sure that I would be unable to get back on!

The instructors were great!! We watched the safety video and listened to our instructors carefully. They asked about our previous experience and placed ones who had ridden a jet ski before at the front of the pack. With no experience, we were placed somewhere in the middle.

Riding around the port area where the water was smooth was great and I was having a blast! Once we rode farther away from port, the water became pretty choppy and the jet ski was a little harder to handle. However, like our guides said, it is a fact that the ski is easier to control at a faster speed vs a slower speed. So, I drove as fast as I felt that I could without falling off! At one stop, I only demoted back one spot, so I was still in the middle of the line. After we finished our ride, the rider behind me exclaimed how well I did! She said, "Man, your butt was flying way up off of your seat but you hung in there a done a great job!" I believe she was surprised that I did that well, given my age/weight!

In summary, the instructors are great and I do not regret doing it! Would I do it again? Maybe on a smooth lake somewhere but never, ever again in the open ocean!! Been there, done that!! Go ahead and challenge yourself or you may always wonder, "what if?"

Have a great cruise!! Cheers!!

If you are not "boat people" and have not had much experience on small craft I agree doing the excursion with RCCL is a great way to get the buck list item checked off and learn if you enjoy the sport. To the person who said "they aren't hard to ride" you are correct, they aren't hard to "ride" but knowing the ins and outs of boater safety might be something someone doesn't know about. My husband and I have owned boats since we were in our early 20's (almost 40 years now) and started boating on Lake Michigan- so you can bet we took a boaters safety course. This past year we have seen an explosion in boat sales. In Wisconsin you don't need to take a course if born before 1989. It shows. Some of the worst offenders are those on personal water craft. They are often "pulled over" as well by local law enforcement.

Please do not give anyone a hard time for wanting to go with a ship sponsored excursion to learn the basics. Who care's if it "follow the leader"- I bet you do "follow the leader" types of horseback riding excursions and not just say go rent a horse from the guy down the road and go do what you want.

Haha

As a beginner who had never been on one before I did the tour in Labadee and will never do it again!  They basically went as fast as humanly possible, told me since I was small and it was a bit rough I was going to get thrown around, and then nearly lost me because we had a bunch of experience people in our group going super fast and I didn't want to go as fast because I was getting really thrown around.  I actually agree with others in this thread that I would have felt more comfortable renting on my own, getting the basics, and then just doing my own thing.

I totally agree with the need for boater safety knowledge, as well as horse safety knowledge! I am in my late 60's and have owned and ridden many horses for half of my years, and now live on a nice lake and have owned and driven many boats. It's a shame that many do not know or care to learn a darn thing about safety! Anyway, your comparison prompted to add one thought - at least, if you fall off of a jet ski, you'd land in water (unless you beach it), and not on hard ground or off of a cliff somewhere! Ouch! Haha!

Teens have no fear!!  The rest of us maybe a bit more!   Glad they had a great time.  But accidents do happen.  In the case of a machine on water, pound wise is better than penny foolish.

SilkySal- true, but those on the water my fear is people running into us! We had a cluster yesterday just trying to get off the inland lake we live near now (we are trailer boaters). It went like this- 3:30 in the afternoon people like us ready to get off for the day, people wanting to get on, 3 lanes at the state park available. Dude with a $125,000 + MasterCraft launches- then decides to move his wakeboards off his tower and open the sunshade- in front of me who was waiting to dock. Group swimming, yes, swimming in one of the launch ramps (which my husband could have used to put the trailer in) when I said something about not swimming there I got a bunch of "we're looking for our car keys"- no joke. The MasterCraft then came and picked them up. I could go on about the stuff I have seen this summer- but most of it has been new boat owners just not paying any attention on the water. I haven't been on a horse for years, but my boss does 3 day eventing and I have been out on her farm and even if she would let me on her horses I would say no. Her and her husband have had some very interesting injuries!

This isn't any beach.  It's at Coco Cay. RCL's private island.  I doubt you can self rent. Or if so probably not a lot of savings .  Also the water around Coco Cay can get choppy.  Lots of wind in the area. They cancel hot air ballooning often.

I am fully aware it is CocaCay and the way it is operated.

The advice I was given was to rent a waverunner at any other Caribbean beach.

That way you can ride as you please instead of being tied down to some group..

You would know that by actually reading the thread.  And reading what BrilloHead quoted in his message.

Why You Should Absolutely Visit Perfect Day At Cococay In 2024!

By: Author Elaine Warren

Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy quality time with your loved ones. It provides a great stop for any Caribbean cruise, and it’s one of the best of the cruise private islands .

With an abundance of pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, and a range of activities to satisfy all ages and thrillseekers, Perfect Day at CocoCay provides a memorable day of fun. You can visit the thrilling water park, engage in exciting water sports with kayaking or jet skiing, or get your heart pumping with some competitive beach volleyball or basketball. Or, you can just lounge around on the beach, soaking up some sun.

Perfect Day at CocoCay | Entrance to island

After a rebranding and massive upgrade, Perfect Day at CocoCay opened in May 2019. We have now made five visits to Cococay and have had a fabulous time on every trip. This is a don’t-miss experience. And, if your debating itineraries that do and do not include a stop at Cococay – choose the one with the Perfect Day visit.

Cococay offers something for everyone. Keep reading for an overview of what you can expect when you visit, as well as some highlights that make it memorable and delightful for folks of all ages. (Also, be sure to check out what you can do at CocoCay for free! )

Perfect Day at Cococay: A Quick Overview

The island has five main sections (neighborhoods) for guests to enjoy.  Thrill Waterpark, Oasis Lagoon (a massive pool), Chill Island, South Beach, and Coco Beach Club.  Both Thrill Waterpark and Coco Beach Club have admission charges. The other three are complimentary.

The entire island spans about 125 acres. It’s relatively easy to get around with wide pathways and great signage. There’s also a great tram system that runs continuously throughout the day. There are a sufficient number of vehicles running at anyone time such that the wait for a tram is not very long.

The first time we visited Cococay was during a cruise on Odyssey of the Seas shortly after the long Covid disruption. Our ship was less than half full, and we were the only ship visiting that day. The entire island was occupied by 1500 guests.

On our most recent visits to the island, we sailed on Symphony of the Seas . The ship was near capacity, and we weren’t the only ship in port. I don’t know the exact numbers, but there were easily 4,000 – 5,000 guests visiting the island that day. We could definitely tell the difference, but it was still loads of fun.

Thrill Waterpark

I have previously written about visiting Thrill Waterpark during our Odyssey cruise . A few points to highlight here.

cococay jet tour

Thrill Waterpark features 13 water slides of varying levels of intensity. Ranging from group rides with modest to moderate thrills to intense waterslides to challenge your bravest daredevil. In most pictures of Perfect Day of Cococay, the extremely tall Daredevil’s Peak dominates the skyline, and it’s been described as the tallest waterslide in North America at 135 feet. ( Currently, the tallest waterslide in the world is in South America — Brazil’s Kilimanjaro and stands over 163 feet . ).

Admission to the waterpark requires a fee for full-day admission. The exact price varies by sailing, but generally falls between $50 to $90 per person. However, you can usually get discounted tickets through advanced online purchases. Keep your eyes open for sales. The best discount we have seen thus far was 50% -off during Black Friday. Also, if you purchase one of the Waterpark cabanas (which are generally priced at the same rates as all of the other cabanas on the island except for the more expensive ones at the Coco Beach Club), the price includes waterpark admission for up to 6 people.

The waterpark includes other activities besides the waterslides. And, there are plenty of loungers and umbrellas throughout this neighborhood when you’re ready for some simple sun.

The Wave Pool

When we visited the wave pool on our first visit, it was not remotely packed. Not so the last few times. It was well visited. Yet still, it never felt overly crowded, and the increased visitors added to the exuberancy and overall festiveness.

Warning, the waves can be surprisingly strong, quite large, and roll much faster than you initially think. On two separate occasions, I was knocked over and dragged fully under the water despite my best efforts. To be clear, I was standing in the shallower end of the pool where the water was literally below the knee.

The Adventure Pool

This pool is integrated with an obstacle course. It’s open to guests of all ages and does not require that much time to complete. The obstacles include hopping across a trail of floating lily pads, scaling a rock wall, and two swing ropes.

The Beach Experience on Perfect Day at Cococay

cococay jet tour

The island has several beautiful beaches for you to enjoy. Two beaches have complimentary access (Chill Island and South Beach), and one is associated with the premium Coco Beach Club. We enjoyed both Chill Island and South Beach, but they each have their own distinct vibe.

During our visits, Chill Island has had more of a rest and relaxation air compared to South Beach. South Beach has lots of activity, many comings and goings, and more of an active, high-energy vibe. It hosts a very active sports pavilion featuring volleyball and basketball and has a very busy beach.

cococay jet tour

You will find an abundance of complimentary lounge chairs and umbrellas throughout the island. You also have the option to rent beach daybeds or different types of cabanas. This is true for all of the neighborhoods. If you rent a Thrill Waterpark cabana that includes admission to the waterpark (for up to 6 people).

Likewise, if you rent a Coco Beach cabana, that procures admission to the Beach Club (for up to 8 people). Coco Beach cabana guests also have access to 2 sets of complimentary snorkel gear.

cococay jet tour

Note Coco Beach has two different types of cabanas. Regular beach cabanas are similar to those found in other neighborhoods. It also has beautiful overwater cabanas. The overwater cabanas are more than twice the size of the beach cabanas and provide a luxurious 675 square feet. Each overwater cabana also includes a wet bar, a two-person hammock, and a private slide that directly accesses the ocean.

Since our first visit to Perfect Day at Cococay, the pricing on upcharge items and excursions has increased significantly. Previously, we had booked a discounted cabana by the water park. We had no trouble reserving it, and it was reasonably priced for our group.

On our most recent cruise, cabanas sold out quickly. We were doing a back-to-back, and none were available for either sailing. Moreover, the price had doubled.

cococay jet tour

But, being shut out of the cabanas introduced us to the delightful option of the beach daybed. It was an excellent substitute. A fraction of the cost and much more affordable. While it did not have all the bells and whistles of a private cabana, it was good enough for what we needed.

For example, there wasn’t a private cabana attendant or a call button for quickly requesting service. But, there were service people who would stop by periodically for drink orders. We were relatively close to the food areas and could go and bring plates back. There was no safe. But there was a towel stand at the entrance to the beach bed area.

Beach Beds include two floating beach mats and a stocked water cooler.

The pricing for cabanas and beach beds varies by sailing and also fluctuates over time. Currently, the starting price for December sailings: Beach Beds are $199 (for 4 people); regular cabanas are $999 (6 people); Coco Beach Club beach cabanas are $1,499; Overwater cabanas are $1,799 (8 people).

The Oasis Lagoon

Roya Caribbean bills the Oasis Lagoon as the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean. It features three swim-up islands and an array of seating – some that is partially submerged in the water. There are also multiple coves to explore.

Access to the Oasis Lagoon is complimentary. While there is no charge for any of the loungers or water seating, this area also has adjacent cabanas which have a rental fee.

Other Activities and Attractions Available on Perfect Day at Cococay

Many activities on Cococay are free. Such as the actual beach, beach games, Splashaway Bay, and Galleon Pirate Ship. Floating beach mats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

cococay jet tour

Splashaway Bay

Although it shares a name with the children’s waterplay area found on many of Royal Caribbean’s ships, the Splashaway Bay found on Cococay rises to an entirely different level. It has five waterslides instead of two, two drench buckets instead of one, and many other stations of water toys. Everything is bigger and wetter. There is also plenty of lounge seating along the periphery for observers who want to stay dry. This area is complimentary.

Some of the most exciting activities have a fee. These are booked as excursions.

  • Certified Scuba Dive Without Equipment — You must be a certified diver. This excursion includes a tank and weight belt. You can dive at a maximum depth of 40 feet.
  • Snorkeling — This is essentially a rental of snorkeling equipment. You may keep the equipment for the duration of your stay on the island and play at your leisure. Note that you are permitted to bring your own snorkeling equipment and snorkel without any added charges.
  • Wave Jet Tour — You drive your own assigned vehicle and follow a guide as part of a 75-minute tour. You can add a second passenger for a reduced fee.
  • Kayak & Snorkel Adventure Combo — This combines the 90-minute kayak tour with all-day snorkeling.
  • Kayak Adventure — Ride in a 2-person kayak for 90 minutes following a local guide.
  • Cococay Zipline — This activity has height (minimum 4 feet) and weight restrictions (maximum 275 pounds) and requires closed-toe shoes. The zipline crisscrosses the island and spans 1600 feet. The entire ride lasts about 45 minutes.
  • Up, Up & Away Helium Balloon Ride — The balloon holds up to 30 passengers, and it can soar up to 450 feet above the island. The ride is approximately 10 minutes.

Helium Balloon on Perfect Day at Cococay

Some of the written material regarding Cococay has also at various times stated that parasailing, paddle boards, and glass-bottom boat rides are available. However, we have not seen anything along those lines recently. And, for the excursions currently listed for some of the 2023 sailings, those activities are not listed.

Dining Options on the Island

Here’s a short take on the food on CocoCay: It’s fine, but it’s not a reason to visit. Generally, the food on the ship was uniformly better.

You’ll find numerous complimentary dining venues throughout the island. With the exception of alcoholic beverages, Captain Jack’s Grill, and Coco Beach Club, all food is included.

Both Chill Grill and Skipper’s Grill serve similar food. Food is served buffet style with several different stations offering different types of cuisine such as tacos and fajitas, burgers, and barbeque. The food is nothing to rave about, but it is generally okay.

Snack Shacks – You’ll find three of these smaller walk-up venues strategically stationed across the island. They serve basic fare like burgers and fries. You can also find funnel cakes.

Coco Beach Club has its own restaurant that serves Mediterranean fare which is included in the price of admission.

Captain Jack’s Grill & Bar is essentially a pirate-themed pub that serves food priced ala cart. The advertised signature dish is chicken wings and fries.

Tips for Planning Your Visit to Perfect Day at Cococay

  • Make advance reservations for key activities and make them early.

In theory, you can book the premium options when you arrive on the island, but it’s not a good idea. We were unable to get into Thrillpark on one visit because they had reached capacity via advance reservations. Plus, be on the lookout for sales. We scored some half-price items during a Black Friday promotion (we were able to refund the original and rebook at the reduced price).

  • Bring plenty of sun protection.

The sun is very bright here. Bring sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.

  • No need to cart towels off the ship.

There are several towel stations located on the island, including at the entrance to all of the daybed areas. If you rent a cabana, towels will be waiting for you. Note that if you do bring towels from the ship, you must remember to take them back, so you don’t get charged.

  • Bring some cash.

To be used for tips and at the small shopping market.

cococay jet tour

  • Be prepared for weather interruptions.

Adverse weather conditions may cause the shutdown of some activities. For instance, if the winds are too high, no balloon rides will be offered. If it rains, the water slides are suspended. If there is lightning seen or anticipated, ocean swimmers may be called back to shore temporarily.

If an activity that you paid for is completely shut down, you will receive an automatic refund. However, if there was an intermittent suspension of service, that’s a different story. If you feel like the length or frequency of suspensions prevented you from getting full enjoyment of a particular attraction (e.g. the waterpark), you should go to the shore excursion desk onboard to request a full or partial refund. It will not be automatic.

Closing Thoughts

No matter what your age or activity preferences are, you’re sure to find something to love at Perfect Day at CocoCay. So, if you’re undecided on which cruise itinerary to choose – we say go with Cococay. It’s worth it!

Top Ten CocoCay Excursions

Royal Caribbean’s first private island, CocoCay, is located about 50 miles north of Nassau in the Bahamas. Although the island is less than a mile wide, its 140 acres are jam packed with plenty of

Top 10 cococay excursions.

10. Explore the Island – While not an “excursion”, one of our favorite things to do in CocoCay, Bahamas is to take a walk around the resort. There are some really well marked walking paths and maybe a few trails that leave you wandering the island a bit. But either way, it is nice to escape the crowds and go on your own little island safari. You may be surprised what you find.

Where will your explorations of CocoCay take you?

9.  Splash in the Caylana’s Castle Cove – One of the larger water parks in the Bahamas, Caylana’s Castle Cove is an inflatable water park with large water trampolines, a floating water slide, and a log roll. It offers attractions for swimmers of all ages and is definitely a wet and wild CocoCay excursion. The section is roped off near the beach so you will be safe from other watercrafts. For those travelers who want even more thrills, you can combine this attraction with a ride on the inflatable waterslide located on land.

6. Nature Walk – If you want to stay on land during your trip, then a guided tour of the Nature Walk should be on your list of CocoCay excursions. This 90 minute tour will allow you to see the natural beauty of the island while you discover animals and plants in their native habitat. A few surprises might be in store during your walk, so have your camera ready. You can also explore the trail on your own if you would rather go at your own pace.

5.  Visit the Straw Market – Looking for the perfect souvenir or gift to take home with you? Then a stop at the Straw Market, right near the docks on CocoCay, Bahamas, is in order. The vendors there do not accept Sea Pass cards, so you should bring cash. T-shirts, jewelry, arts and crafts, and plenty of other goods are available from various vendors.

4. CocoCay Wave Jet Tour – Looking for a little more excitement during your stay on the island? Then you should pre-book an exhilarating Wave Jet Tour . This is a guided tour, and the wave jets do accommodate two passengers. So, hold on tight as you zoom by your fellow cruisers in this fast paced, heart pumping island tour.

3.  Snorkel Adventure and Underwater Treasure Hunt – The rocky coastline of CocoCay is prime real estate for diverse aquatic life. What better way to explore these waters than by snorkeling . During this tour, you may come across submerged planes or schools of fish, all while you are on the lookout for some buried treasure. A prize awaits those who find one of the hidden pieces of gold scattered throughout the waters adjacent to the island.

2.  Stingray City Bahamas  – Venture beyond the confines of the island in this CocoCay Excursion to Stingray Cay . After a short speedboat ride, you will be swimming in the crystal clear waters alongside some friendly Southern Stingrays. You will be able to interact and feed these charming creatures under the supervision of staff in this hour and a half long tour. And the best part is that there will still be plenty of time to enjoy all the private island has to offer upon your return.

1.  Relax on the beach – When in doubt, our favorite CocoCay excursion consists of finding a nice spot in the sun, or shade, for some rest and relaxation. Perhaps an upgrade to a beach bungalow or cabana is just what the doctor ordered. When things get too hot, you can always take a dip in the water or swim out to the Floating Bar to enjoy the island’s favorite cocktail, the Coco Loco. This frozen mix of juice, rum, and ice is reason enough to stay on the island for the day. Hey, you are not driving the ship!

Coco cay is my favorite of all the islands..can we renew our wedding vows there?

Hi Sherri, thanks for reading. Coco Cay is a great island. We suggest contacting Royal Caribbean Customer Service at 866-562-7625 to speak with someone about renewing your vows. There are private areas of the resort you can rent out, but they would be able to give you all the details and costs of doing so. Congrats on your anniversary. When do you plan on sailing?

Is it possible to just visit the island without booking an excursion through RC?

Hi Tiffany, Great question. Yes, you can just explore the island free of charge. The beaches are all free to use. and the lunch provided is also part of your cruise fare. On our last trip we spent the day lounging around in the sun and did not spend a dime. Also, if you have a drink package onboard, it works on Coco Cay, so you can enjoy the beverages on the island too, including the Coco Loco signature drink. When is your next cruise?

Do they have beach volleyball nets set up on the island?

Are there beach items to rent other then the mats?

Hi Judith, there are some additional items you can rent. Snorkel gear is available, and you can also rent water noodles. We don’t believe there is anything else available. You can bring your own water gear too, if it fits in your luggage. Great question. Thanks for the comment.

Just wondering how much has changed since this was originally posted. Any thoughts?

Which beach is best for snorkeling on your own?

ARE THERE CHICKENS WALKING AROUND ON COCOCAY /???

Is the nature trail still there? I’ve not seen any mention of it.

Perfect Day at CocoCay, Coco Beach Club

CocoCay – The Perfect Day On Royal Caribbean’s Private Island

The Caribbean is an excellent place to vacation, especially if you are cruising with Royal Caribbean and are going to experience The Perfect Day at CocoCay. If you’re looking for a relaxing or action-packed day, CocoCay has it all. It’s ranked number one in TripAdvisor’s list of the top ten beaches in the world. Even more tantalizing is Royal Caribbean International CocoCay is exclusively for those who cruise with them.

Why do so many people visit CocoCay? There are many reasons why people enjoy CocoCay. The weather is one of the reasons. It’s a tropical island that’s very warm year-round. The water is warm, the weather is perfect, and the beaches are beautiful. Plus, while some of the most popular sections are busy, there are plenty of places to escape the crowds. You can find a hidden space to relax if you know where to look.

In this article, we share some of our favorite tips and tricks to take advantage of all CocoCay offers.

Where Is CocoCay?

Located on the northwestern part of the Out Islands of the Bahamas, the Berry Islands are a chain of islands and a district of the Bahamas. This group of islands is also known as the Fish Bowl of the Bahamas, as there are over one hundred small islands and cays. The Berry Islands have a population of 807, most of whom live on Great Harbour Cay.

Little Stirrup Cay is the official name. However, Royal Caribbean International calls it CocoCay.

What Is The Perfect Day at CocoCay?

CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, so only Royal Caribbean cruise ships can dock here. It’s an exclusive! Unless you are on a Royal Caribbean Ship, you can not visit CocoCay.

A visit to the island is often part of most Caribbean itineraries. For the most part, it’s all free. For example, the beaches, the pools, and the food are complementary. There is something for everyone here—waterslides, shopping, dining, swimming, sightseeing, walking tours, and relaxation. If you want to splurge, there are overwater bungalows you can rent for the day.

You might wonder why you would want to visit a cruise line-operated island instead of a Caribbean country. The answer is that CocoCay is designed for all tastes and interests. Everyone who visits will have a “Perfect Day.”

The Perfect Day at CocoCay

A $250 million investment by Royal Caribbean transformed the cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas. “Perfect Day at CocoCay” replaced the once tranquil CocoCay.

Unlike other private islands, there is much to do once you arrive. Check out Royal Caribbean’s family vacation packages if you love water sports . You will find swimming pools, restaurants, activities, and fun for the whole family to enjoy. Perfect Day at CocoCay is almost an extension of the cruise ship experience, making it easy for cruise ship passengers to enjoy without the “middle man” of shore excursions and outside vendors.

What’s New at Perfect Day at CocoCay?

If you haven’t visited “the old” CocoCay, then you might wonder what the difference between Perfect Day at CocoCay and the “old” CocoCay is.

At the end of 2019, Royal Caribbean renovated and expanded the island. It’s a great place to visit and has many new attractions.

When guests arrive at CocoCay, they can select from many choices, including:

  • Multiple beaches
  • CocoCay water park
  • Freshwater pool
  • Private beach club
  • Various dining options

In 2023 Royal Caribbean will add an adults-only area at Hideaway Beach.

CocoCay Zones

While small, this island packs a punch. It’s divided into separate areas.

  • Chill Island

Chill Island is probably the most tranquil spot on Perfect Day at CocoCay. However, the north end is more secluded and calm, making it a popular choice among couples.

Snorkel Shack and Jet Ski rentals and tours are found at the south end, so there is more activity there. Reserve a Chill Island cabana if you’re visiting with friends or your extended family – or if you want to upgrade your romantic getaway – if you’re visiting with a group. The cabanas can accommodate up to eight guests and are serviced by attendants. The beaches have complimentary lounge chairs, hammocks, and bean bag chairs.

Chill Island

  • Coco Beach Club

Royal Caribbean built the Coco Beach Club for those who want seclusion. You’ll find this part of CocoCay behind a winding path through lush tropical vegetation.

Among the amenities in the club are…

  • Coco Beach Club Restaurant: The open-air restaurant serves high-end dishes like filet mignon and lobster.
  • Infinity Pool: Want to take a dip? A pool is an essential part of every beach club. Guests can enjoy the sweeping infinity pool here.
  • Private Beach: It’s no secret that CocoCay is known for its beaches, but this spot takes it to the next level. Guests of the club have access to a beach with loungers and umbrellas.
  • Poolside Bar: The club’s bar is between the restaurant and the pool. Your drink package will extend to the island if it is on the ship.
  • Cabanas:  Cabanas are one of the club’s biggest attractions. Floating ones and ones on the beach are two types.

The overwater cabanas at Coco Beach Club accommodate up to eight guests and come with attendant service, a private hammock, a minibar, and your slide into the sea. If you reserve a cabana at Coco Beach Club (including the overwater cabanas), you’ll enjoy complimentary access to the club for up to eight guests.

CocoCay Beach Club Over Water Bungalows

An overwater cabana for eight, including full admission to the attractions, can run as high as $3,799 during peak season. The price of a Coco Beach Club overwater cabana also includes access to the beach club with its complimentary restaurant, an exclusive beach, clubhouse, and other amenities.

How Much Does Admission Cost to Coco Beach Club?

The cost of entering the Coco Beach Club differs based on your trip. The cruise line uses dynamic pricing, meaning prices aren’t set and can vary from trip to trip. You can expect to pay anywhere from $99 to $199 per person.

  • Oasis Lagoon

Oasis Lagoon is free and has several attractions!

  • Captain Jill’s Galleon: There are plenty of water cannons on Captain Jill’s Galleon for squirting people and getting sprayed. Those who board Captain Jill’s Galleon should beware…they might get soaked. Captain Jill’s Galleon is a pirate -themed aqua park with slides and water cannons.
  • Splashaway Bay is a smaller water park.
  • The largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, with a swim-up bar.
  • Harbor Bay: The beach that surrounds Oasis Lagoon.

Oasis Lagoon

Thrill Water Park

Home to North America’s highest waterslide – Daredevil’s Peak, which is 135 feet tall.  The entry cost includes the other twelve waterslides, a wave pool, and an adventure pool.

Note: You cannot wear rash guards on the water slides. Why? Because rash guards (or shirts) cause drag on the decline and can slow you down to the point that you could stop.

Not zones per se, but additional attractions:

  • Up, Up and Away – Rise 450 feet above the island to enjoy the highest vantage point in the Caribbean
  • Zip Line – Slide along a 1,600-foot zipline and splash land in the lagoon

Note: If you have your heart set on Up, Up, and Away, book it long before you board. There is a limited time, and the weather can change significantly at CocoCay.  The balloon will only go up when the winds are calmer, which is often in the morning. Book the helium balloon ride early in the day and book it as soon as possible – it sells out!

First Visit To CocoCay S trategy

If you can, get up and go to the island as early as possible. Beat the crowds and get your perfect spot!

There is so much to see and do on the island that it may make sense to explore a few different sections instead of committing to just one.

It’s impossible to do everything in one visit; there’s too much to see and do. Don’t try to visit every inch of the island in a single visit; you will spend your time running around and won’t enjoy what it offers. You can certainly knock out a few significant parts of the island. However, you will need to visit to see it more than once.

Where To Start?

It’s a good idea to start with the Oasis Lagoon pool and then hit the beaches afterward. You can enjoy more space if you go to Oasis Lagoon earlier in the day because the collection tends to get more crowded as the day progresses.

If you’ve already got a plan for your day, choose a location, whether it’s the pool, a beach, or something in between. Two of the most popular beaches are Chill Island and South Beach. If mobility is an issue, it may be better to go to Chill Island because it is closer to more activities.

CocoCay Perfect Day

How Big Is CocoCay?

The island is less than a mile wide from west to east, and from north to south, it is less than 200 meters wide. It takes six minutes to walk from the ship to the Arrivals Plaza. Three minutes will get you to the waterpark, while five to ten minutes will get you to Chill Island.

Is CocoCay A Tender Port?

Not anymore. Since the pier was built in May 2019, ships can dock at CocoCay without requiring tender boats.

What’s Included At CocoCay

  • Splashaway Bay
  • Captain Jill Galleon
  • Skipper’s Grill
  • Chill Grill
  • Snack Shack
  • Beach Chairs and Umbrellas
  • South Beach

  • Tram Service

CocoCay - The Prefect Day

  • Up, Up and Away (The Helium Balloon)
  • Captain Jacks Restaurant
  • Cabana Rentals
  • Water Sports & Rentals (Paddle Boards, Kayaks, Snorkeling Equipment)
  • Over Water Bungalows- which, if you rent one, includes entry to Coco Beach Club

  • The island has 6000 lounge chairs.
  • There are 1,200 umbrellas on the island.
  • The giant wave pool in the Caribbean can be found at Thrill Waterpark.
  • There are 13 waterslides in Thrill Waterpark, which is the most anywhere in the Caribbean.
  • Royal Caribbean spent over 250 million dollars upgrading the island to Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Everything You Need To Know About To Take Advantage Of All CocoCay Offers

Now that you have a feel for the layout of CocoCay let’s get into how to maximize your time and answer some of the common questions people ask.

Will My Drink Package Work At CocoCay?

Purchase a Royal Caribbean drink package for your cruise, and you’ll get the package benefits at Perfect Day at CocoCay. This package includes unlimited alcohol, bottled water, soda, ice, and snacks. It’s a great way to relax at the beach and have fun with your friends and family. This includes the Royal Refreshment and Soda package, which is excellent for Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Like on the ship, souvenir cups or drinks served in pineapples or coconuts are not included with your Deluxe Beverage Package. You can receive a discount on the souvenir cup if you have the Deluxe beverage package. You can get the drink in a regular cup for no extra cost.

Drink Package

Get your daily drink voucher for Diamond, Diamond Plus, or Pinnacle Club members. Just show your SeaPass card and redeem it at the poolside bar or restaurant.

Will Internet (Voom) Package Will Work At CocoCay?

If you have a Voom internet package, you will be able to use the internet at Perfect Day at CocoCay. Wi-Fi coverage extends across the island, meaning you’ll stay connected while sharing photos or videos with friends back home.

And don’t forget that you may already have international coverage on your phone. I do, so even though I had the Voom package, it was not needed on the island.

What Should You Bring to CocoCay?

What you need will vary depending on the activities you plan to participate in. For example, if you plan to sunbathe, you only need sunscreen. However, you will need closed-toed shoes if you go to the zipline.

The most important things you should bring with you to CocoCay are:

  • SeaPass Card
  • Cash: Only cash is accepted in the artisan market, and tipping cabana attendants also requires cash
  • Closed-toe shoes: It is essential to wear them for your zipline experience
  • Beach towels: You can get the beach towels from the ship
  • GoPro or underwater camera
  • An underwater case for your cell phone if you plan to take pictures in the water
  • Water shoes if you don’t like things touching your feet or don’t like to walk around barefoot at water parks

You’ll also want to bring sunscreen and hats and wear a rashguard to protect yourself from the sun. One of the best ways to protect yourself from sunburn is to wear clothing that covers as much skin as possible.

Snorkeling Gear

While the cruise line rents snorkeling sets, why rent when you can bring your own? There is a great reef to explore at CocoCay; it will cost you nothing if you get your own snorkel set.

I brought my own with me, so there is no need to rent anything!

CocoCay Reef

Should I Purchase Thrill Waterpark Admission Pre-Departure?

If you know that you want to spend time at the waterpark, the best thing to do is buy it in advance – pre-departure. Pricing fluctuates. It can be as little as $55 per person up to $139 per person.

Regardless of the price, it will be cheaper if you purchase long before you get on board your ship.

Royal Caribbean sells its water park passes via the Cruise Planner site, but they regularly put the tickets on sale. If you want to save money, buy your tickets before you board the ship.

Should I Book A Cabana For Thrill Waterpark?

If you should or shouldn’t book a cabana for the day is a tricky question. It depends on your needs and budget.  If you have at least 3 or 4 people going to Thrill Waterpark, the Thrill Waterpark cabanas might be a good investment.

A Thrill Waterpark cabana offers relaxation, privacy, and the opportunity to spend time together as a family while having some fun in the sun. A cabana includes admission for up to six guests.

What Is The Best Times For Shorts Lines For Waterslides at CocoCay?

Thrill Waterpark is popular, and it sells out; as such, you should expect lines. These are the best times to avoid queues for slides:

  • Before 11 a.m.
  • After 3 p.m.

Are There Any Free Water Slides?

CocoCay has two accessible splash areas with unlimited hours of fun for your whole family: Captain Jill’s and Splashaway Bay, both located right at the entrance to the island from the pier.

If you have younger children (elementary school age or younger), this is a good fit for them.  Splash Zone includes small slides, water cannons, geysers, and more.

What Food Does The Snack Shack Serve?

They serve delicious snacks and meals but also have menu items you can’t find on the printed menu – all you need to do is ask!

Is the Tram Service Around CocoCay Island Free?

Yes, the tram is complimentary! Walking down the pier, you’ll find the tram service to take you around the island. Many of the trams are solar-powered!

Where’s The Least Crowded Spot On CocoCay?

Chill Island is the perfect place for quiet time. You can get to Chill Island by following the green pathway on the left side.

When you get to Chill Island, stay on the left side of the area, and you’ll have pristine ocean views that are entirely free of the sounds of people at the pool.

Chill Island Beach

Is There Wild Life On The Island?

This is a fun fact, but Perfect Day at CocoCay is a lot more than just a gorgeous view.  You are bound to see some birds or reptiles while walking. Seagulls are usually found around the ocean shoreline and on land. If you’re at the beach, be careful when you eat because seagulls are known to scavenge leftovers from your picnic. Keep an eye out for chickens and iguanas. And remember, no feeding the wildlife!

Please do not give any of them any food.

What Do Chairs & Umbrellas Cost On CocoCay?

First of all, they are free! Secondly, you don’t need to worry about hustling to get a spot at CocoCay.You will find umbrellas in all the different regions of the island. Royal Caribbean has taken its popular CocoCay beach area and expanded it. They’ve added tons of new seats, umbrellas, and other amenities to enjoy on your next trip.

Is There Breakfast At CocoCay?

No, there’s no breakfast on the island. Before you depart and head to the island, grab something to eat.  Food doesn’t start opening up until lunchtime. Coco Beach Club is an exception to the rule and is the only place on CocoCay that offers coffee and pastries to its guests.

Cruise Breakfast

Will My SeaPass Card Work On The Island?

Royal Caribbean is the perfect cruise line for people who want to experience cashless vacations without having to deal with paying in cash or with a credit card .

Royal Caribbean’s new cruise experience, “Perfect Day,” relies on the SeaPass card instead of cash. You can use your SeaPass card for everything except the Artisan Market, so bring some cash just in case.

Is It Too Cold To Visit In December, January, or February?

The tropics generally don’t experience the same winter temperature swings found in farther north areas. The weather tends to be much warmer year-round, but it does cool down in winter.

Indeed, it’s not unheard of for temperatures in the 70s during the winter. The good news is that the ocean temperature doesn’t change much and remains warm for longer after the air temperature drops.

One thing is for sure: the beach is a much better place to vacation in winter than in summer. CocoCay is the perfect tropical getaway year-round. It’s more than enjoyable in the winter, and the water activities are plentiful. If you’re coming from somewhere that gets snow during winter, CocoCay in December through February will feel divine.

Are Cabana Rentals Worth It ?

A cabana rental is a great way to make your day unique and memorable. However, cabanas have an extra cost. They offer privacy, shade, and exceptional server service. Your cabana attendant will serve beverages and take drink orders throughout the day.

Can I Get Beach or Pool Towels On The Island?

Towels are a must to have when you visit CocoCay. There are towel stations strategically placed throughout the island for you to go and exchange your wet towel for a fresh one.

Beach Towel

Where Is The Best Place To Eat On CocoCay?

The days of burgers and hot dogs are long gone, but they are not your only choices.  A wide variety of complimentary foods are available:

  • Chill Grill is like Windjammer in the sense that there are lots of buffer options.  They also have shaded seats nearby. You can find many things, including salads, burgers, sandwiches, and more. Chill Grill also has soft-serve ice cream.
  • Skipper’s Grill is an excellent restaurant for people looking for fast-casual dining, as it’s centrally located and offers a menu.
  • The Snack Shack offers grab-and-go options, like chicken sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, burgers, and even a light Greek salad.
  • Captain Jack’s near the pier offers wings and fries.

The Coco Beach Club restaurant offers seafood options, from oysters to lobster, grilled fish, ceviche, and much more. You can order unlimited entrees at the Coco Beach Club Restaurant, so feel free to sample a few dishes while you are there. Just remember, you have to pay to enter Coco Beach Club.

What Excursions Are Available On CocoCay?

  • The Zipline
  • Up, Up & Away Helium Balloon
  • Glass bottom boat tour
  • Guided jet ski tour
  • Kayak adventure
  • Parasailing
  • Reef snorkeling
  • Scuba diving
  • Stingray City
  • Swimming pigs tour

Can You Snorkel For Free At CocoCay?

Whether you’ve got your snorkel equipment or rent gear from Royal Caribbean, there is a spot for snorkeling. If you have your gear, it’s free.  An underwater plane and artificial ship ruins attract all kinds of marine life.

*Note: We could not snorkel to the plane when we visited. The staff told me they had stopped access because it was not safe. Not sure if this is still the case or not.

Is Perfect Day at CocoCay Wheelchair Accessible?

Yes, most of the island is accessible. Some areas are not easily accessible, but with some planning and coordination.

What Is The Official Drink Of CocoCay?

The official drink of Perfect Day at CocoCay is called the Coco Loco, which is delicious. The kind of frozen dessert that is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face is called the Coco Loco. It comes with rum, but you can get a non-alcoholic version for the kids.

Hidden Gems

Here are some things few people know about!

Ice Cream Sandwiches

You will find self-serve, soft-serve ice cream machines near Skippers, then grab chocolate chip cookies! Combine the two for a fabulous dessert.

There Is A Floating Swim Up Bar At CocoCay

The island has a floating bar on the South Beach.

CocoCay Swim Up Bar

What You Need To Know

All islands have their share of challenges, and CocoCay is no exception. There are massive barracudas in the water, like six feet long. There are also jellyfish, and I saw giant-sized grouper.

Once upon a time, there was a sunken plane in the bay that you could explore. Sadly, you can no longer access it. This is not a deal breaker; I wish the staff told me before I took off on my epic swim to find it.

If you are planning to visit CocoCay, you should know the minimum height and maximum weight restrictions. The water slides have different sizes. If you are too short or heavy, you will not be able to ride them.

Lockers Are Free To Use

Locker keys can be found near the entrance to Thrill Waterpark and zip lines, Chill Island (north and south), and near the helium balloon. The locker room is located near the entrance to the park.

You Cannot Use A Drone

Royal Caribbean restricts the use of drones on the island. You can bring a drone on the ship, but drones are not allowed on any of Royal Caribbean’s private islands.

Use Signs To Navigate

While Royal Caribbean provides you with a nice map in your room before your visit, you don’t need it.

CocoCay is full of signs, and getting around is much easier than you might imagine. Just follow this color coding:

  • Light green: Chill Island
  • Orange: Oasis Lagoon, Coco Beach Club
  • Light blue: Thrill Waterpark

Can you go to CocoCay without a cruise?

No, CocoCay is leased by Royal Caribbean International for use exclusively by its visiting cruise ships.

Does Anyone Reside On The Island?

Royal Caribbean has had up to 375 employees living on CocoCay. There are dormitories on the island’s eastern end, where the crew returns after a day working on the island.

Closing Thoughts

For those who have never been to CocoCay, it is a beautiful island that offers a lot of things for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a party atmosphere, there is something for everyone at CocoCay. And now you know everything and them some about The Perfect Day At Cococay.

Don't visit without doing the jetski tour!!!

Just left Coco Cay on Sunday and it was beautiful! The weather was perfect and the activities were plentiful. We tried jet skiing for the first time and had an absolute blast! It was $79 for the driver and another $29 for the passenger, but we got to switch midway, so we could both drive. The tour is about and hour and a half. They ensure you have all the information beforehand and line you up according to how advanced you are. It is all organized and really safe. If that's not for you, they also have: paddleboats, kayaking, vollyball, basketball, paddle boards, and a fee based childrens area with slides and such...We didn't need to buy a cabana, we just laid out on the provided beach chairs and hamocks. There were plenty of trees to move the chairs under for a little nap in the shade. Some people even put their chairs in the water and laid out! The bbq was plentiful, so no one had to buy food or drink. They served pork ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, mac-n-cheese, salads, desserts, (which included RUM CAKE), water, tea and lemonade. We didn't purchase anything at the straw market since all the previous reviews said that the best deals were on Nassau, which was true. Try to only take what you need so you don't have to rent a locker and don't leave your towel, it's a $25 fee if you do. They use your room key to pay for all activities and alcohol drinks, so no need to take your money or credit cards if you are not purchasing at the straw market. It was a quick 'ferry' ride over to the island from the ship also. Try to get a spot on top by the railing for the best pictures, if not, you will be photographing everyones back. The ferries run all day back and forth, so some people left and came back a couple of times.

We stopped on Coco Cay on the second day of three day cruise on Royal Caribbean. It was just what my wife and I needed. Relaxation. We spent the $200 bucks for the new cabanas. They are open wooden structures with a coach and two very comfy lounge chairs. This is a private area of 14 cabanas on the island. You have access to restrooms, your own bar and buffet. They also provide four large water bottles and a bottle of champagne and fruit plate. There are other beach chairs we used to move around to grab as much sun as possible. The only negative is there is no beach in this area. it's all rocky. You need to walk about 100 yards or less to the beach. But the water is beautiful. The price also including snorkeling gear and we saw a lot of colorful fish. There are plenty of places to hang out on the private island. But we really enjoyed this private, quiet area.

We recently visited the island on the Majesty of Seas. This island is big so when you first enter the island you can walk around and find a quiet spot of a party spot. The beaches are beautiful and lots of space to enter the water. We spent a little time in the water but it was a little to cold for some in our group. We had a barbeque lunch that was okay, not great but all included. There are many activities that you can participate in such as snorkeling or renting wave runners. We returned to the ship around 2:30 to hang out near the pool due to the cold water.

This is a island used exclusively by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and cannot be accessed otherwise. All of the vendors live on the main island of Berry and commute daily when a ship is in. Except for lounging on the beach lunch and participating in the "audience" activities provided by Royal Caribbean, there is a charge for activities such as snorkeling, para-sailing, jet skis, kayaks and the glass bottom boat. We chose the boat ride and found it to be the best experience of the cruise. The guides are skilled in finding wild life, both plant and animal. We say a wide variety of coral, fish, a small shark and ray. One ray was swimming the other hidden in the sand. Besides that they have examples of a variety of conch, sea fan, star fish, & sea biscuit. The highlight of the trip was watching how a conch is opened, the animal taken out, cleaned and eaten. You have the opportunity to taste it, very sweet and firm, better than lobster. Friends who checked into para-sailing said it was over priced, for the price you only get 6 minutes in the air. Other activities appeared properly priced. The ribs and chicken were disappointing, they did offer burgers, hot dogs and salads. The beach is the real physical attraction. You have the option of wandering along most of the shore line, fine white sand with some outcroppings of coral, best to wear footware. The beaches close to the landing area have more than adequate beach chairs and staff pass through at regular intervals to get you any alcoholic beverages you want. I would highly suggest you take the opportunity to go ashore, even for a short time, rather than staying on the ship.

This is Royal Caribbean's private island. RC provides a great beach experience before the stop in Nassau. Tourist items from the vendors was overpriced, compared to Nassau.Otherwise RC offers a great day of either lounging in the sun or their optional activities, such as jet skiing, or paragliding.

I was a little apprehensive as to what to expect from the island. After spending a whole day on it, I was pleasantly impressed. The food was okay for BBQ and the haggling at the Straw Market was fun, but I'd wait till you get to Nassau's Straw Market where stuff is cheaper. There is also a fee for everything so don't be surprised. If you want peacefulness, quiet, no kids, and more privacy t I'd suggest renting a "cabanette" for $50 which comes with a personal attendant, battled water, floating mats, towels (which you normally have to get on the ship), and table for two people. It's a slight bit further away toward the back of the island away from the crowds on Barefoot Beach. The sand is less gritty and there is a clean private bathroom close by on a trail. You could also walk far out on the sand bars which made it look like you are walking on water. Some went out 1/4 a mile. Most people congregate toward the front of the island which felt to cramped for my gf and I. The $50 is worth it.

Drake and lil wayne spotted rapping lyrics from teleprompter on 'blur' tour, drake & lil wayne rappin' from teleprompter on tour ... janky or justified, 1k 3/26/2024 9:29 am pt.

Lil Wayne gave fans an extra treat by popping up at one of Drake 's recent shows, but onlookers in the audience noticed the dynamic duo getting an onstage assist ... from a teleprompter!

Weezy was Drake's surprise guest Sunday night in Sunrise, FL -- the same show where he barked back at Kendrick Lamar -- and some fans noticed a screen on the edge of the stage with the lyrics from "Right Above It" ... the song they were performing.

Actually, the entire stage of Amerant Bank Arena was fitted with teleprompters -- whichever direction Drake and Wayne ran, the lyrics were right there at their feet.

It was the perfect track to perform for the Florida crowd, considering it was the theme song for The Rock 's HBO sports series "Ballers," which was famously set in Miami.

It's a multi-platinum hit, so it would be surprising if they didn't know the song by heart. To be fair, there's not much evidence in this video they were relying on the prompters -- but, let's face it, forgetting lyrics could make for an awkward moment in a live show.

That's the question lots of people are asking ... is it really a true performance if the artist is taking cues from a screen???

Graphic artist Maha Sattva received thousands of comments questioning the validity of an artist's live show, dividing fan opinions.

Of course, Drake stole that particular show telling Kendrick he wasn't shaking in his boots regarding his "Like That" diss ... and the world is patiently on his comeback response.

Mel B channels Scary Spice in series of leopard-printed outfits on book tour

Leopard power.

Mel B hasn’t let go of her inner Scary Spice, with the pop star promoting her memoir, “Brutally Honest,” during a slew of recent media appearances wearing several leopard-printed clothing items in recent days.

Arriving at the “Tamron Hall Show” Tuesday morning, the former Spice Girl — whose real name is Melanie Brown — sported a halter top leopard-printed catsuit, paired with a long black fur coat and gold chrome heels.

Brown, 48, exited the “Drew Barrymore Show” later on the same day in a similar getup, this time sporting a floor-length leopard-printed trench coat and the same stilettos.

The ”Wannabe’ singer styled the second look with a black bodysuit and a pair of reflective sunglasses and wore big hoop earrings with her curls up in a high ponytail.

The former “X-Factor” judge has been fully embracing the leopard look, with her back-to-back outfits on Tuesday just the latest in a slew of cat-tastic finds of late.

On Monday, the pop sensation was spotted in New York City sporting another set of statement-making coats, the first shorter leopard-printed coat, which she wore over a long-sleeved blue turtleneck top and knee-high lace-up boots.

Mel B traversed the streets of NYC in a leopard print trench and multicolor white pants. She finished the look with big sunglasses and her hair in a high ponytail.

She also arrived on set of “The View” on March 25 in a different trench coat and matching Christian Louboutin heels.

Despite her dedication to the animal print, none of Brown’s travel outfits were featured during her March 25 appearance on “Today with Hoda and Jenna,” where she jokingly walked off set after being asked about the potential of a Spice Girls reunion tour.

However, she did spill that “us five” — meaning herself, Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) — are currently “working on something that’s going to be announced soon.”
