Voyage never seems to disappoint! great food, great service and always has an upbeat atmosphere, I don't come here too often as it isn't too close (but my girlfriend is a regular) and i can't recall a time i've been disappointed coming here! love their food and coffee, everything tastes and looks fresh! we all ordered the gourmet beef burger last time! It was 22.5 for the burger and chips which is a great price for Perth, and it was yummy! The service is top notch here, they mixed up one of our drinks, and quickly replaced it for us! Would definitely be coming back in the near future!

Can't believe it's taken me so long to visit Voyage! Our server was lovely and very helpful. The coffee was good and the food was tasty. We had a great time only a couple of things to work on to make this place 5 star - The entry and getting a seat was a bit hectic, there were people coming in from 4 directions trying to get a seat or pay the bill, maybe they should keep these two things separate. The toilets were in need of an update.

Used to be good, now the food is bad and way overpriced- shame as it's a great spot. Ordered calamari as they claim everything is fresh and got frozen squid rings.

Fresh, seasonal menu offerings, great coffee and hard to resist cakes, this modern coastal café is my favorite spot for lunch in Perth. The café itself isn't huge and always busy with people, so you may find you'll have to perch on the center communal table before swooping on a private one. The attractive lady who owns this light-filled cafe, runs a tight ship, ensuring every service is a snappy and friendly one. Daily specials are written on the chalkboard above the kitchen window. There is always something from the sea, a gourmet wrap and three exciting salads for the day. Gourmet burgers, grilled haloumi cheese and marinated olives, are some of the more permanent menu items. I have a good feeling the owner is vegetarian because she sure knows how to make tasty vegetable dish! The salads are my favorite and plated in generous servings. Stepping away from the savory, the sweets are fabulous too. Most are gluten free and all baked from the Voyage Kitchen. It took all my strength to resist a Banana Split cupcake last week. My god it looked good. Breakfast doesn't disappoint either and the most popular dish is 'Norma's Salsa'; poached eggs, a half avocado, vine tomatoes, wilted spinach and soft goats cheese on ciabatta. A meal at Voyage is always a nourishing start to a day.

Having heard so much about this place and being situated right across from sorrento beach I had high expectations. Despite having a queue with Five couples ahead of us we were seated within fifteen minutes by a lovely waitress. The cafe has an open noisy Kitchen, a covered courtyard decked in interesting art, and lots and lOts of tables. I ordered an extra hot cappucino in a mug and my friend ordered a hot chocolate. We got the vego breakfast to share. The coffee was warm and tasted like instant coffee. My friends hot chocolate tasted worse than the one from seven eleven. We were very disappointed. The toast was tough and crunchy. The eggs were average. The homemade hash brown lacked flavour. The best thing about the meal were the pesto mushrooms. The pesto was great. The waitress accidentally charged us for two additional coffees and didn't know how to subtract the overcharged value. Sigh.

Fast, friendly, and scrumptious Was having a bad cooked breakfast craving on Sunday morning, and was looking for somewhere different and slightly further a field. Ended up at Voyage Kitchen, and was enticed by the look of their menu, and the fact they did and All Day Breakfast - not stopping at 11:30 or some weird hour like most other places in the Northern Suburbs. Small hassle with parking dispensed with, it was barely a wait of 10min before a table came free. Seated quickly, menus perused, and orders made within about 5-6min after that. Voyage has been around for over 11yrs now, and that shines through. A keen observer can tell that they've continued to build up experience year on year, and the result of this is a pretty well oiled and finely tuned operation, which translates in everything they do. The quality of the meal was impressive, especially the home made hash browns - which had I known were that good before hand, I would have ordered at least four extra of them. Everything tasted wonderful, flavoursome, and each shone through in their own right. And, the highlight for me - perfectly poached eggs. This is something I find that a lot of breakfast places stuggle to do well. Voyage hit it, with the eggs perfectly cooked, and the entire yolk was runny, not a single part that had solidified and gone pale yellow. If it wasn't for the fact I had four hours ahead of me fixing a friends computing equipment, there's a Lamb Ragu Pappardelle which I would have happily stuck around for to have for lunch. Absolutely worth a visit if you're up Sorrento way and looking for a great place to eat. Good to know: Website states they don't accept reservations on the weekend, but it was obvious there are some people who'd reserved tables. Best to give them a call and try your luck if planning ahead.

Voyage Kitchen in Sorrento is one of the best spots is the area. Full, bright and a bit fun, it is a great spot for breakfast or coffee then a beach walk. The food is alright, menu is pretty standard, with decent sized meals and an average Perth price. It gets VERY busy and is clearly a local favourite. We did go for dinner once, but I didn't like the meal so ate a few bites, soon felt unwell and left. The menu for dinner is very different, but my partner liked his meal. They make good coffee and have a range of pre-made cakes so it is a good spot for afternoon tea.

My boyfriend Steve surprised me with.. Come on.. lets go out for breaky !! :) This lovely open restaurant, sit in or outside. The view of the ocean is best outside, as you watch on peeps drive by showing off there well spent revamped classic n modern vehicle's, while on the other side of the road keep fit peeps pounding the pavement running n walking by. Inside we sat and greeted with constant friendly service. Steve enjoyed a traditional full cooked breaky as l had a yumee muesli fruit yogurt. Juices, Tea, Coffee to your hearts content. I loved the outside nook.. Part of the front counter restaurant for the public outside walking by or sit out. From toasties to croissants and more. Cues are constant and busy. Parking is also available across the road as there are only a few selected Parking bays around the restaurant. If not Breaky maybe Lunch !!

Gorgous start to the morning with a muesli fruits yogurt with... my honey :)

Great place I keep coming back to and never write a review. Finding a table and selecting the cake you want are the only two hard things you have to do while here. I had the pumpkin hazelnut cake this time and it was up there with the carrot cake. Amazeballs - soo yummy. Plus the kids meringues in Mouse or Rabbit are to die for. Bring on summer time when I will be here more oftern

That's great to hear Shannon, we appreciate your great review!

Famous figures who had Titanic tickets but didn't make it on board

  • As the Titanic was the height of luxury in 1912, some celebrities had tickets for its maiden voyage.
  • But not all of them ended up boarding the ship.
  • J. Pierpont Morgan and Milton Hershey were among those who missed the disaster.

Insider Today

The sinking of the Titanic in April 1912 still captivates us today, with numerous books, a multibillion-dollar movie , museums , and, controversially, expensive tours of the wreckage available.

Interest in the ship led to another maritime tragedy last year when an OceanGate submersible went missing on the way to the wreckage and was eventually confirmed to have imploded , killing all five people on board.

In the aftermath, stories emerged about people invited to participate in one of OceanGate's trips but decided against it — much like, more than 100 years ago, how people were fascinated with those who had almost been on the Titanic.

Here are seven notable figures, some of whom were among the richest people in the world, who were supposed to sail on the Titanic's maiden voyage but didn't — and four well-known people who were booked to go on a future journey with the ship.

Milton Hershey, the founder of Hershey's, sent the White Star Line a $300 check to reserve a spot on the Titanic, but he ended up sailing home on the SS Amerika instead.

voyage kitchen menu

As they aged, Hershey and his wife, Catherine, spent their winters on the French Riviera. In December 1911, the couple left for another extended European vacation. For their return journey, Hershey wrote a $300 check from the Hershey Trust Company to the White Star Line to reserve places on the maiden voyage of the company's brand-new ship, the Titanic.

According to Lancaster History , pressing business matters forced Hershey to cut his vacation short, and he left Europe just days before the Titanic would set sail, instead heading home on a German liner called the Amerika, which would later warn the Titanic about the dangerous amount of ice.

Hershey's canceled check is still in the possession of the Hershey Community Archives , and you can view it online.

J. Pierpont Morgan — yes, J. P. Morgan himself — had a personal suite on the Titanic and had attended its launch party in 1911. But he extended his French vacation and missed the sinking.

voyage kitchen menu

"I've never been able to find an authoritative 1912 source explaining the exact reason why J. P. Morgan canceled his passage on the Titanic," the Titanic expert George Behe told Reuters in 2021. Some speculated that the reasons were that he was in bad health or having issues with customs because of his art collection.

However, we know that Morgan, the cofounder of General Electric, International Harvester, and US Steel, was also the founder of the International Mercantile Marine, which in turn owned White Star Line. According to The Washington Post , he was even on hand to witness its 1911 launch.

"Monetary losses amount to nothing in life," Morgan told a New York Times reporter after the sinking. "It is the loss of life that counts. It is that frightful death."

Guglielmo Marconi, the Nobel Prize winner who invented the radio, opted to head to the US three days earlier on the Lusitania, forgoing a free ticket on the Titanic.

voyage kitchen menu

You might know that Marconi was considered a hero after the sinking of the Titanic because his invention, the wireless radio, helped ships in the surrounding area find where to look for the lifeboats.

But did you know he was almost on board the ship himself?

His daughter Degna wrote in her 1926 book, "My Father, Marconi," that he was offered a free ticket aboard the Titanic. But because his stenographer got seasick, Marconi opted to sail to the US on the Lusitania because he trusted that ship's stenographer more than Titanic's, Degna wrote.

Henry Clay Frick, the chairman of the Carnegie Steel Company, missed the sailing of the Titanic because his wife sprained her ankle in Italy and needed to be hospitalized.

voyage kitchen menu

Visitors to New York City might recognize Frick's name from the Frick Collection or the Henry Clay Frick House. He was an important industrialist and a patron of the arts — and he was close to sailing on the doomed voyage.

"The Fricks booked the suite first, and then Mrs. Frick sprained her ankle while they were in Europe buying art and touring and things; so, they stayed behind to get medical attention," the historian Melanie Linn Gutowski told CBS News Pittsburgh in 2012.

"The suite that they booked, that some historians think that they booked, was some kind of savior suite in a way," she continued. "Everybody who booked it managed to survive either by not being on the ship, or jumping into a lifeboat at the last minute."

Eventually, the tickets made their way to J. Bruce Ismay, the chairman and managing director of the White Star Line. Controversially, he was one of the few men who made their way onto a lifeboat and survived. He was criticized for this for the rest of his life.

Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt canceled his ticket on the Titanic at the last minute. He was on board the Lusitania when a German U-boat sank it in May 1915.

voyage kitchen menu

As a member of the prominent Vanderbilt family, Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt was a well-known member of New York society, so there was media coverage when it was revealed he'd narrowly escaped the Titanic.

Unfortunately, just a few years later, he was aboard the Lusitania , a British ocean liner that was sunk by German U-boats in 1915. He was one of the 1,200 passengers who did not survive the attack.

The American journalist Theodore Dreiser was persuaded by his publisher to take a cheaper ship home across the Atlantic.

voyage kitchen menu

Dreiser wrote about his brush with disaster in a chapter of his 1913 memoir, "A Traveler at Forty." Slate said the section about the Titanic, "The Voyage Home," was "one of the most gripping chapters in the memoir."

Dreiser wrote that he wanted to sail home with the rich and powerful people aboard the Titanic to get a peek at how the other half lived, but added that his publisher convinced him to sail home on the Kroonland, a cheaper ship, two days before Titanic sank.

"The terror of the sea had come swiftly and directly home to all," Dreiser wrote, according to Slate. "To think of a ship as immense as the Titanic, new and bright, sinking in endless fathoms of water. And the two thousand passengers routed like rats from their berths only to float helplessly in miles of water, praying and crying!"

John Mott, another Nobel Prize winner, was also offered a free ticket on the ship, but he chose a smaller ship, the Lapland, instead.

voyage kitchen menu

Mott, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who was the longtime leader of the YMCA, was another near-miss. Gorden R. Doss , a professor at Andrews University, said that Mott came close to death a few times.

First, he skipped the Titanic and opted for the Lapland. Three decades later, in 1943, he narrowly avoided a train crash.

Mott said, "The Good Lord must have more work for us to do" upon hearing about the sinking, according to Sotheby's .

There were other celebrities who had tickets to sail the Titanic in the future, had it not sank. J.C. Penney was set to sail on the ship's next trip from England to New York.

voyage kitchen menu

According to the Smithsonian Magazine , the founder of JCPenney was set to sail on the Titanic's second  voyage from England to the US.

Frank Seiberling, the cofounder of Goodyear Tires, was booked to return to Southampton on the Titanic's next voyage.

voyage kitchen menu

The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Seiberling, the cofounder of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and his wife frequently traveled to England and were huge admirers of English architecture. But one of their trips was postponed when their ship out of the States, the Titanic, sank.

So was John Alden Dix, the governor of New York.

voyage kitchen menu

Smithsonian Magazine also reported that Dix, the governor of New York from 1911 to 1913, was on the passenger list of the Titanic's return trip to England.

Henry Adams, a historian who was a descendant of President John Adams and President John Quincy Adams, was also booked on this trip.

voyage kitchen menu

"My ship, the Titanic, is on her way," Adams wrote in a letter on April 12, 1912, "and unless she drops me somewhere else, I should get to Cherbourg in a fortnight." As history tells, Adams was never able to board the ship and was forced to book passage elsewhere, The New Republic's Timothy Noah wrote.

Test Kitchen Virgin Voyages Menu

What to expect with the test kitchen on virgin voyages – our experience.

The Test Kitchen on Virgin Voyages ships is quite possibly the most unique restaurant many people will have ever experienced. But ‘unique’ doesn’t necessarily mean good for some people. The restaurant is set up to have a laboratory feel and the concept is designed around unique creations crafted by the chefs in small tasting menu portions. Think – Elegant Tapas.

The menu is a bit of a mystery. Each table is presented with a simple card that highlights the main ingredient in each course, however, how that ingredient is presented is exceptionally unusual. For example, on one visit to The Test Kitchen, the ingredient highlighted was “Mushrooms”. The course was presented as a mushroom paté molded in the shape of an actual mushroom. A funky and interesting presentation will exist for most of the courses.

What Virgin Voyages says about the Test Kitchen

Inspired by Escoffier’s Ma Cuisine, this laboratory-like eatery is part cooking school and part restaurant. It’s educational, experiential and social. With classes and evolving tasting menus, this is for the curious, boundary-pushing tastebuds on board. Virgin Voyages

Enjoy an exciting dining experience in the Test Kitchen

Entering into the Test Kitchen , you notice an almost sterile environment that is meant to replicate a lab where things are being, well, tested. It’s a great idea but isn’t very “cozy”.

The menu is presented with a list of components that will be the primary ingredient in each course. There are alternatives to some courses in the event that a particular ingredient isn’t terribly appealing. However, I recommend going ahead with something even if it doesn’t seem appealing (barring a food allergy) since the chefs are making a great effort to transform the ingredients.

The courses are extremely small, but no one in our travel group was left feeling hungry at the end of the meal, surprisingly.

There is an option to do a drink pairing with each course and we found this to be quite interesting and worth the $35. The Test Kitchen staff made great choices pairing wines and not only did it add to the experience, but it was also a learning opportunity to understand better what wines go with what types of foods.

Important Tip: There are TWO menus

The Test Kitchen has two menus. Menus are rotated throughout each week, but only one is available in a given night. Before committing to a reservation, you may want to speak to the host/hostess first and review each menu and inquire when it will be served. There is a big difference between each menu (A or B)!

Discover Unique Flavors and Experimental Recipes

In The Test Kitchen, explore the art of cooking with unprecedented curiosity as chefs churn out creative dishes. Every plate is carefully crafted to bring you the ultimate gastronomic experience – discover everything from tantalizingly exotic flavors to experimental recipes and beautiful presentations! Something good to know: there is a twice-changing menu, so when on board, be sure to check for menu “A” or “B” and plan your reservation accordingly (The host/hostess will be able to tell you when the menus change). There’s going to be something new and exciting awaiting your palate on one of these menus. Savor the unique flavors at The Test Kitchen aboard Virgin Voyages & prepare your taste buds for a unique foodie adventure!
