16 Bruges photography locations – BEST viewpoints
Welcome to Bruges, the charming town where the houses seem to be made out of gingerbread, the chocolate is too good to be true, and the beer is delicious. Bruges is like a fairy tale, one that never ends.
Take your time to explore the cobbled streets, the hidden alleys, and winding canals and you’ll discover some pretty fascinating photography locations in Bruges. The city is full of incredible places, waiting to be discovered and photographed.
I’ve visited the city twice and each time I just couldn’t stop taking photos. I took thousands of photos and now I want to share with you the best Bruges viewpoints.
But before that, let’s talk about some important tips & tricks you need to know.
Bruges photography tips & tricks
These tips & tricks will make your life easier when it comes to taking photos in Bruges.
- Bring all the gear you need (chargers, batteries, lenses) – Bruges is a small town, with few electronics shops.
- Avoid visiting Bruges during summer or Christmas – Bruges is a very popular tourist destination and it can get pretty crowded during the summer and Christmas holidays. If you don’t want to worry about having dozens of people in your shot, visit Bruges in autumn or spring.
- Explore the city at night – When all the tourists go back to their hotels, it’s time to get out and explore Bruges. The lights reflecting on the canals create the perfect backdrop for photos!
No time to read now? Pin it for later!
1. Rozenhoedkaai
Are you looking for the best view in Bruges? Rozenhoedkaai or the Quay of the Rosary is the place to be! This place looks like a postcard – this is why it’s also called “the Bruges postcard view”. Rozenhoedkaai is also the starting point for many boat tours.
With the Belfry of Bruges and other historic houses in the background, this place is the most popular photography location in Bruges. All around the year you’ll find many tourists here trying to take the perfect photo. Just sit for a while and enjoy the views!
-> Are you planning a day trip to Bruges? Read this itinerary .
2. Belfry of Bruges
This medieval bell tower situated in the center of the city offers the best panoramic view over Bruges. To get to the top you’ll have to climb 366 stairs but trust me, the view is worth it. I recommend bringing a zoom lens.
3. Brasserie Raymond
I discovered this place while randomly walking around Bruges and absolutely loved the facade of these houses. The architecture of Bruges never ceases to amaze me but these 3 houses are truly special.
The first facade has straight lines, the second one has curved lines (more similar to the houses in Amsterdam) and the third smaller house, home to Chocolatier Dumon, is a typical Belgian house.
4. Minnewaterpark
In the southern part of the city, you’ll find a hidden oasis. Minnewaterpark is home to a bank of beautiful swans. However, keep in mind that you can’t get too close to these beautiful animals!
I recommend crossing the Beginhof bridge for the perfect view towards the Church of Our Lady and the canals. There is also a beautiful building right near this bridge that is worth photographing. You can’t miss it!
The beautiful Sashuis building regulates the level of the canals in the city center and it’s also a great place to photograph. Its reflection on the lake is truly beautiful.
5. Gruuthuse Hof
This picturesque house situated between two adjacent buildings has an incredibly beautiful facade. The Gruuthuse Hof restaurant is located right near the Church of Our Lady and Sint Janshospitaal.
This is one of the best photo spots in Bruges and a great place to eat some traditional food if you’re feeling hungry.
6. Sint Janshospitaal
Built in the 12th century, Sint Janshospitaal is Europe’s oldest hospital. Now a museum, the hospital was opened until 1977. Both the exterior and the courtyard are beautiful and worth photographing.
7. Bonifacius Bridge
Bonifacius Bridge is one of the Instagram spots in Bruges. Situated in the shadow of the tower of the Church of Our Lady, this bridge has an interesting legend. It is said that you’ll marry the first person you see after crossing the bridge.
Given this legend and the romantic feel of this place, Bonifacius Bridge is a popular place for marriage proposals. If you plan on taking a boat tour in Bruges, you’ll pass beneath the bridge.
-> Are you also planning to visit Ghent? Read everything about it here .
8. Burg Square
Many architectural styles are present in Burg Square. The buildings here are some of the most beautiful in Bruges and the perfect background for some photos.
My favorite buildings are the Gothic Town Hall, dating from 1376 and the Basilica of the Holy Blood. The basilica is a popular place among pilgrims due to a relic with Jesus’ blood from his crucifixion.
9. Historium Bruges
Even if you don’t want to visit the Historium Bruges museum, you can still enjoy the views towards the Bruges Market Square. Head to the first floor at Bier Cafe’s terrace and enjoy the best view over the Market Square.
If you want to photograph the Belfry of Bruges, the light is better in the morning. If you want to photograph the colorful houses, head there in the evening.
10. Jan Van Eyck Square
This is my favorite place in the entire city. Why? Because there are almost no tourists here. If you’ve already been to Bruges, you know how busy it can get but somehow the tourists overlook the Jan Van Eyck Square.
For the best view towards the square head to the Koningstraat Bridge.
11. Serendipity Store
Well, this photography location in Burges is located near the Serendipity Store. It doesn’t have an official name. I discovered it while walking randomly around the city.
What I liked about this place were the houses and the small fountain. I love discovering beautiful, off-the-beaten path locations.
12. The Windmills
Take a walk outside the city center and you’ll discover a few beautiful windmills. There were 25 windmills originally but only 4 of them stand today. Some of the windmills are open to the public from April to September but you can admire them from the outside all year round.
13. Begijnhof
With the white-colored house facades and a tranquil garden, the Begijnhof was founded in 1245. Today the houses are inhabited by nuns and a few local women who decided to remain unmarried.
Begijnhof is one of my favorite photography places in Bruges. If you have the time, you can explore one of the shops located here, selling church objects.
14. The cute balcony on Blinde Ezelstraat
On the way to Burg Square, on Blinde Ezelstraat, you’ll see a beautiful white balcony with golden details. I’ve tried to find its name but unfortunately, I wasn’t successful.
However, this balcony is pretty easy to find. it’s right on Blinde Ezelstraat Street, before reaching Burg Square.
15. Church of Our Lady Bruges
The tower of the Church of Our Lady can be seen from all around the city but the best view is from the Bonifacius Bridge. This Catholic Church, built in Gothic style is a true wonder of architecture and the perfect Instagram location for tourists in Bruges.
Its exterior is as impressive as its interior. I could stand and look at it for hours!
16. Get lost on the streets
Just walk around the old city center and you’ll find many places worth photographing. Bruges is so beautiful that I ended up taking thousands of photos in just a few days. Every corner of the city is a photo opportunity.
Where to stay in Bruges
I’ve been looking for the best hotels in Bruges, for each budget. I recommend choosing a hotel close to the city center. Below are my recommendations.
- Budget – Novotel Centrum – great location, spacious and clean rooms, good facilities, friendly staff
- Mid Budget – Hotel Fevery – great location, modern and spacious rooms, breakfast included
- Luxury – Relais & Chateaux Hotel – excellent location, luxurious rooms, extra-comfortable beds, historic building
I’m sure that you’ll love Bruges. There are so many photography locations that you’ll probably need at least one week to shoot them all. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments section below.

Xscape and SWV are hitting the road together!
The legendary groups are combining their talents for The Queens of R&B Tour, a new co-headling concert that will hit 30 cities across the country this summer.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that fellow greats MÝA , Total, and 702 will join the lineup as supporting acts.
News of the tour dropped Monday on Sherri Shepherd's self-titled talk show, Sherri. It came after a hilarious video went viral showing Xscape (featuring Kandi Burruss , Tameka “Tiny” Harris and Tamika Scott ) and SWV ( Cheryl “Coko” Gamble , Tamara “Taj” George and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons ) in a makeshift therapy session with television personality Mona Scott-Young.
Scott-Young's Monami Entertainment will produce the tour along with Live Nation.
The tour will kick off on June 27 in Concord, California, at the Toyota Pavilion. Among the 30 stops will be a prestigious venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York City and the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
Fans will remember that Xscape and SWV last collaborated on a 2023 Bravo series called SWV & XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B , which followed the female musicians — including Scott's sister LaTocha Scott-Bivens) as they attempted to get this tour off the ground. But internal conflicts and a debate over which group would headline prevented the tour from ever manifesting.
Now, the Queens of R&B Tour is finally happening — something the press release calls "a testament to the power of what can be accomplished when women come together with respect, admiration and undeniable talent," as well as "a celebration of passion, power, resilience and unstoppable ability to exceed expectations."
"I’m incredibly honored to be part of this HERstory making moment in R&B music, and to announce this tour during Women’s History Month makes it much more impactful," Scott-Young, 57, tells PEOPLE. "What started as a television series turned into something much greater and I’m proud to be producing this tour, alongside Live Nation, as Xscape and SWV, along with incredible talents 702, TOTAL and MYA, embark on this journey together."
"These ladies have all given their all to R&B music, despite experiencing the ups and downs of life and career, and it is with great pride and excitement that we bring this highly anticipated concert experience to the fans," she added.

Tickets for The Queens of R&B tour go on sale Tuesday, March 26 with a Citi presale. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on sale staring March 29 (at 10 a.m. local time) on Ticketmaster.
XSCAPE have sold more than 9 million records worldwide, and notched six top-10 songs hitting the Billboard 100. SWV (Sisters With Voices) have sold more than 30 million records worldwide and been nominated for three Grammy Awards.

- Here are 15 of the coolest things about the office that stood out to her.
Google welcomed employees to its brand new $2.1 billion office in February in the Hudson Square neighborhood of New York City.
Called St. John's Terminal, the building is 12 stories high and was built on top of a rail terminal from the 1930s.
My friend, who works at Google, invited me to check out the new building as their guest during opening week.
Here are the coolest amenities I saw that make this office feel almost like an all-inclusive wellness resort.
1. The Great Hall
Once I got past security, I was shocked by the sheer amount of space in The Great Hall work lounge.
The lounge has super tall ceilings, cozy furniture, and a café where you can grab drinks like espresso, matcha, coffee, and chai with breakfast — all for free.
Related stories
I got an Americano, a mini egg salad sandwich, a mini ham and Swiss sandwich, and a smoked lake trout tartine.
2. The fun furniture
The chairs, in particular, caught my eye. They were super vibrant and playful.
I did a quick Google Image search and discovered that the furniture might be a mix of designer and retail. There's a nearly identical-looking bulldog stool online that goes for under $90, and the yellow chair looks like a piece called "Klara," made by Spanish designer and architect Patricia Urquiola.
3. The fully-equipped gym
An entire section of the building is dedicated to the Recreation Center. It has amenities like a spin studio, yoga room, martial arts studio, a separate space for personal training, and even a coach's office for instructors.
4. The spin studio
Google offers weekly spin classes in the private spin studio.
5. The yoga studio
The natural wood yoga studio is right around the corner from the gym and has a calming glow of light.
6. This foot-washing station
The foot-washing station has a little bench you can sit down on, along with fresh towels.
7. The martial arts studio
Next to the yoga studio, there is a fully padded and matted martial arts studio.
8. The massage room and recharge room
The rooms have various percussive and compression therapy devices.
9. "The Shop" of Google merch
Next to the lobby café, there's a dedicated shop full of Google, Android, and YouTube merch. The fitting room alone is larger than the size of my college dorm room.
The items at the store ranged from T-shirts ($30), jackets (~$100), tumblers ($15), and children's books.
10. Google-branded pet accessories
There were even pet accessories branded with the Google logo.
11. The micro kitchens
Google's snack stations come equipped with a $20,000 La Marzocco espresso machine for coffee snobs, a $6,000 digital coffee brewer for the non-coffee snobs, a pile of fresh fruit, and drawers full of snacks.
12. The cafeterias and free food
The actual cafeterias at Google's new office are the ultimate benefit and charm of working here. This cafeteria, which is one of many, is a fully vegan kitchen with a beautiful interior and unlimited, sophisticated vegan dishes.
For lunch, I ate a whipped ricotta and beet tartine, a celeriac schnitzel with sauce Gribiche, and sweet potato kimbap with a side of berries. It was all vegan and very delicious.
13. The bathrooms
The bathrooms are an amenity in itself. Google's 12th-floor all-gender bathroom has a view of the NYC skyline with floor-to-ceiling windows.
Each stall is equipped with feminine product dispensers and full-length mirrors (but alas, no bidet).
14. The coworking spaces
The best part of the office was looking into all the coworking spaces.
Google says it designed the office so that teams are assigned to different "neighborhoods" or spaces in the office — employees don't have assigned desks, so there are a lot of communal and coworking spaces.
Each coworking space is decorated with a theme. I can see how the expansive ceilings and beautifully designed spaces inspire employees to leave their homes and come into the office.
15. The view of the Hudson River
And finally, the view of the Hudson River from the building is breathtaking.
The Google office at St. John's Terminal is so big that I didn't get to explore all of it.
It was opening week, and already the office was bustling with employees and visitors like me.
Although there were a lot of people, Google seemed to have created enough space dedicated for just about everything to bring up the collaborative energy, efficiency, and even good mood of the employees.
If I worked here, I would want to show up every day.

Taylor Swift's father will not face charges for allegedly punching Australian photographer
By Caitlin O'Kane
Updated on: March 27, 2024 / 4:45 PM EDT / CBS News
Taylor Swift's father, Scott Swift, will not face charges for allegedly punching a photographer in Australia, New South Wales Police Force confirmed to CBS News.
The incident occurred in February when Swift was in Melbourne for her Eras Tour . The pop star and her father, then 71, were coming off a yacht at the Neutral Bay Wharf, where veteran paparazzi photographer Ben McDonald was taking photos of them, the Associated Press reported at the time.
In a statement to CBS News at the time, a representative for Taylor Swift told CBS News that "two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water."
McDonald told police Swift assaulted him. "There were about four or five security there and at one point, one of the American security started shoving his umbrella into me and my camera and then Taylor got in her car," McDonald then told the AP.
"Someone else came running at me and punched me in the left side of my face. Initially, I thought it was an Australian security that was trying to be the hero of the moment in front of the Americans, but as it turned out it was her father," McDonald added.
McDonald reported the alleged incident to police but was not seriously injured, AFP reports.
The New South Wales Police Force did not release the names of the parties involved but confirmed they were investigating a 71-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at 2:30 a.m.
McDonald later identified Scott Swift from an online picture. "In 23 years, I haven't been assaulted and punched in the chops, particularly by the talent's dad," he told the AP.
Scott Swift soon left Australia, police said. Taylor Swift also left via private jet after seven sold-out stadium concerts in the country.
Fans, who dubbed the star's dad "Papa Swift," defended Scott in social media posts.
The police told CBS News that after investigating the incident, they decided they "will take no further action in relation to the matter."

SYDNEY (AP) — Taylor Swift’s father will not be charged over a paparazzi photographer’s claim that Scott Swift assaulted him on the Sydney waterfront hours after the pop star’s Australian tour ended last month.
Photographer Ben McDonald had alleged that one of Swift’s security guards forced an umbrella into his face and camera and that Scott Swift then punched him at the Neutral Bay Wharf, where the father and daughter had just come ashore from a yacht Feb. 27.
Taylor Swift’s representatives responded by accusing members of the media of aggression during the interaction.
Police began investigating the incident at the time and announced Wednesday that “no further police action” would be taken.
“No offences were detected, and the investigation was concluded with no further police action required,” said the statement from the New South Wales Police Force.
More than 600,000 fans saw the Australian leg of her Eras Tour at seven Australian stadium concerts.
Her tour shattered records when it reportedly surpassed $1 billion last year , and her film adaptation of the tour quickly took No. 1 at the box office and became the highest-grossing concert film to date.
