Deal alert: Fly to Miami, Fort Lauderdale for as low as $79 nonstop

Miami Beach from the Beachwalk

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

We don't really need to hard-sell you on reasons to visit Miami during winter, do we? The weather is amazing, and the food and nightlife can't be beaten. This new deal gives you a chance to enjoy everything Magic City has to offer while saving you significant dollars. Let's not overlook Fort Lauderdale, either, which is loaded with appealing evening activities to keep you entertained.

Flights are available through November, but we found the best availability in February and March. There were lots of nonstop flights too, from many cities. The best prices we saw were for American flights, which makes sense since Miami International Airport is a hub. Oh, and this deal works in reverse if you live in Miami.

The JetBlue, United, and most of the American fares are in the main cabin, which includes a carry-on and seat assignment. You'll have to pay for better coach seats. Other flights are basic economy.

Thanks to the fine folks at Thrifty Traveler for alerting us to this great deal, which they gave out first to their premium subscribers . Their premium service is available for $7.99 monthly or $49.99 annually. This membership fee can easily pay for itself since you'll get notified of cheap flights, award flight sales and business-class deals straight to your email.

Nonmembers can find sale prices by using Google Flights to search for desired routes and dates.

Deal basics

Airlines: Air Canada, Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, United. Routes: ATL/AUS/BOS/DFW/DTW/EWR/JFK/LAX/MIA/MSP/MSY/STL and others to MIA and FLL. Cost: Flights available from $80; many nonstop routes available. Dates: February-November 2022; availability varies by city.

Pay with: The Platinum Card® from American Express for 5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year); the Citi Prestige® Card for 5 points per dollar on airfare; the Citi Premier® Card (see rates and fees) for 3 points per dollar on air travel; Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on air travel); the American Express® Gold Card for 3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card for 2 points per dollar on travel.

Minneapolis (MSP) to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is just $108 nonstop on Delta. That's a great price for this time of year.

american express travel miami

Dallas (DFW) to Miami (MIA) in February is another bargain-basement fare we found. American has Main Cabin seats for just $98 round-trip, more than 50% off the normal price for this ticket.

american express travel miami

The best deal we found in this sale was from Newark-Liberty Airport (EWR) to Miami for just $80 nonstop on American. That's an incredible discount for this route. The best availability we saw was for late January, but we also some similar fares available in February.

american express travel miami

Detroit (DTW) to Miami can be booked on American in February for the low price of $119 nonstop.

american express travel miami

One more incredible deal we found was from St. Louis (STL) to Miami. A nonstop ticket in February on American costs just $138 right now.

Maximize your purchase

Don't forget to use a card that earns points on airfare purchases, like The Platinum Card® from American Express for 5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year); the Citi Prestige® Card for 5 points per dollar on airfare; the Citi Premier® Card (3 points per dollar on air travel); Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on air travel); the American Express® Gold Card for 3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card for 2 points per dollar on travel.

Bottom line

Pro tip: There is much more to Miami than South Beach. Walk Ocean Drive and get lunch at Joe's Stone Crabs, but then head to Wynwood or Coconut Grove for dinner and drinks. And take some time to visit Little Havana. Enjoy a cafecito and a pastelito de guayaba at "la ventanita" at Versailles to get a taste of 'real' Miami.

Priority Pass lounge access includes 4 locations at MIA and over 1,400 other airport lounges worldwide. Our top credit card option for Priority Pass access is the Chase Sapphire Reserve ® . With the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you don’t just receive access to Priority Pass lounge locations — you also receive a dining credit at all Priority Pass restaurant locations. So, for example, when you visit Corona Beach House at MIA you’ll receive a $28 dining credit if you’re by yourself or a $56 credit if you’re dining with another person.

Another great option that is perhaps the best lounge credit card on the market, is the Amex Platinum card . While the Amex Platinum card does not offer access to Priority Pass restaurants, you will get access to top-notch Amex Centurion lounges ,  Plaza Premium lounges ,  Delta Sky Clubs (when flying Delta), and Escape Lounges .

Here are some other great credit card options that allow cardholders to visit Priority Pass lounges:

  • Amex Business Platinum card
  • Citi Prestige ® Card
  • Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant ® American Express ® Card
  • U.S. Bank Altitude™ Reserve Visa Infinite ® Card

Miami International Airport has a pretty good selection of lounges for eligible premium passengers, frequent flyers, and credit cardholders. Priority Pass members will be pleasantly surprised with the facilities on offer in the Turkish Airlines Lounge, which has been highly reviewed by travelers.

Passengers that aren’t eligible to access The Centurion Lounge or airline lounges may consider purchasing a day pass to the Club America Lounge with a same-day boarding card for any airline.

The information regarding the U.S. Bank Altitude™ Reserve Visa Infinite ® Card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.

Miami International Airport has a sizable collection of lounges, and is a major hub for American Airlines and a connecting point for international travelers (especially those bound for the Caribbean and Latin America).

MIA’s roster includes an AmEx Centurion Lounge , Delta Sky Club and an Admirals Club , but these are restricted to passengers with eligible access. For this reason, cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express can be the golden ticket for certain travelers thanks to their complimentary Priority Pass membership perk. Enrollment is required. Terms apply.

Priority Pass members have several lounge options to choose from in Miami regardless of which airline they fly. Whether they purchase a subscription to the program or take advantage of the many credit cards that come with membership access , there are five lounges to visit for a bite to eat and drink or a connected spot to catch up on work.

Here's a closer look at the Priority Pass lounges in Miami.

Priority Pass network options at MIA

Turkish airlines lounge (concourse e).

Location: Central Terminal, Concourse E

Hours: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Conditions: Maximum stay is limited to four hours. Children younger than 2 are admitted free. Access may be restricted due to space constraints.

More info: Priority Pass website

Priority Pass members can access this lounge from Concourse D via a connecting walkway. The lounge is small but features several seating areas with a central buffet and self-service drink area. Visitors have views of planes parked at Concourse E. The cuisine features Turkish and international choices with a separate menu for breakfast.

Turkish Airlines flies to Istanbul out of the South Terminal’s Concourse H, where it operates a second lounge, which is also part of Priority Pass.

Turkish Airlines Lounge (Concourse H)

Location: South Terminal, Concourse H

Hours: Vary according to flight schedules.

Conditions: Access permitted up to four hours prior to departure; international flights only. Children younger than 2 are admitted free.

This is the second Turkish Airlines lounge at the airport, and it is available to eligible Turkish Airlines passengers as well as Priority Pass members. It features a similar design to other Turkish-branded lounges around the world, as well as a Mediterranean-themed food selection. Wine, beer and cocktails are available at the bar plus the option for Turkish coffee or Turkey’s popular (and strong) alcoholic beverage, Raki.

Visitors can relax on daybeds, refresh with a shower and work at computer stations with printers. Aviation fans will find great views of planes parked at their gates through large windows.

Corona Beach House

Location: Central Terminal, Concourse D between Gates D23 and D24

Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Corona Beach House is a restaurant that participates in the Priority Pass network. Priority Pass members with restaurant access get $30 per person off their bill for food and drinks. If a member registers a guest, an additional $30 credit is applied to the bill. To-go or grab-and-go orders aren’t eligible for the credit.

To use the perk, present your Priority Pass card and a boarding pass when getting seated. If the bill exceeds the maximum allowance, you must pay the remainder. An 18% gratuity is automatically applied to the bill, and it is covered by the credit if you do not exceed the $30 allowance.

The menu includes salads, burgers and sandwiches, seafood dishes and tacos, plus a long bar list.

Concourse D is the primary hub facility for American Airlines in Miami, so if you're flying American, this restaurant option is a nice choice for the variety of food available.

» Learn more: Credit cards that offer airport lounge access

Club America F

Visitors will find a self-serve bar and buffet, plus lounge and work areas with great views of planes parked at nearby gates.

How can I access these lounges?

Priority Pass sells memberships starting at $99 per year, but the best option is to get Priority Pass lounge access for free as a credit card perk . Premium cards that come with a complimentary Priority Pass membership include:

Chase Sapphire Reserve® .

Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card *. Enrollment required.

The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card (10 visits per cardmember year). Enrollment required. Terms apply.

Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card (10 visits per cardmember year*). Enrollment required. Terms apply.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card . Enrollment required.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express . Enrollment required.

The Platinum Card® from American Express . Enrollment required.

U.S. Bank Altitude™ Reserve Visa Infinite® Card .

*Existing cardholders who enrolled in Priority Pass on or before Jan. 31, 2023, will no longer have a membership as of Feb. 1, 2024. Cardholders who enroll between Feb. 1, 2023, and Jan. 31, 2024, will continue to have membership through Oct. 31, 2024. Terms apply.

Most of these cards offer Priority Pass Select membership , which includes unlimited visits to any of the 1,300+ lounges within the network. Up to two guests can enter free of charge, but terms vary and you should pay attention to entry conditions. Additional guests are $35 per person.

For travelers with access provided by an American Express card, such as The Platinum Card® from American Express or the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card , restaurants are excluded. This means that American Express cardholders with Priority Pass Select membership don’t receive any allowance toward their bill at participating restaurants. Terms apply.

The bottom line

There are five Priority Pass locations in Miami, and access depends on the terminal you're flying from and time of day. Of the options, one is a restaurant where membership will cover part of the check. The lounge nearest your departure gate (or in your departing concourse) may have reduced hours or have limited access for Priority Pass members, so check the program's website before you head to the airport.
