I Travel 5 Times a Year—These Easy Outfits Have Never Once Failed Me

Lauren Adhav

As a semi-recent  Los Angeles transplant, I've made so many travel plans over the past two years to take advantage of my new West Coast life, whether it's an international flight to  Tokyo or multiday road trip to Sea Ranch, just north of San Francisco. And when I was living in New York City, a quick four-day trip across the Atlantic to  London or  Paris felt like a breeze. Then there are the long-haul flights I've done from L.A. to Monte Carlo and from Orlando to Hong Kong that take up to a full day of travel. And I've done all this with just a carry-on , mind you, so it's safe to say that I'm kind of a travel and packing expert. This is why I rounded up 20 of the best travel outfits if you're sitting on a plane, in a car, or walking 10 miles in a day to explore your vacation destination.

In theory, your vacations are filled with a never-ending supply of chic new outfits that are more than deserving of a few Instagrams, but the reality is that your  travel outfits need to be equal parts stylish  and  comfortable. Yes, achieving that balance is possible, and we have the stylish looks of the below fashion girls to prove that looking good and dressing functionally can coexist.

From roomy jeans and breezy dresses to versatile boots and bold sneakers that can withstand any mileage, scroll down for 20 travel outfits you'll want to copy for any upcoming out-of-office dates.

Coat + White Tee + Jeans

travel-outfits-225762-1705552171314-main

Ogling this Rimowa suitcase situation. But a shaggy jacket and unique jeans will dress up any white tee.

Shop the key pieces:

Ena Pelly + April Faux Fur Teddy Jacket

Jacket + Bold Sneakers + Comfy Pants

travel-outfits-225762-1705552164628-main

Comfortable pants and shoes are key whether you're on a plane or walking 10,000+ steps, but they don't have to feel drab. Add pops of color with your accessories.

Onitsuka Tiger + Mexico 66

Matching Sweatsuit + Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552177349-main

A matching sweatsuit is a must in any wardrobe. With a fashionable pair of sneakers, you can wear it both on and off the plane.

Reformation + Classic Crew Sweatshirt

Quarter-Zip Sweater + Long Coat

travel-outfits-225762-1705552184462-main

Bundle up in a monochrome 'fit like this cream quarter-zip and coordinating coat. Finish it off by adding bottoms with stretch and a trusty pair of shoes.

Zara + Soft Hooded Coat

Bomber Jacket + Jeans + Shoulder Bag

travel-outfits-225762-1705552190005-main

For a day in a new city where you're constantly moving, it's best to stick to the basics like a roomy shoulder bag, your go-to pair of jeans, and a zip-up jacket for transitional temps.

Lioness + Bomber Jacket

Leggings + Oversize Sweater

travel-outfits-225762-1705552194005-main

There's something about gray that makes any outfit look so much more comfortable. Throw on a cream sweater with your gray leggings for some contrast. Then put on your headphones so no one bothers you while you're waiting to board.

Nordstrom + Oversize Wool & Cashmere Sweater

Track Pants + Statement Coat + Flats

travel-outfits-225762-1705552198244-main

Track pants are a staple that can look dressy given the right styling. Take a cue from Helena and add the one statement coat you packed this trip with a pair of sporty bottoms.

BDG + Melanie Faux Fur Denim Jacket

Jumpsuit + Big Tote

travel-outfits-225762-1705552203040-main

A one-and-done kind of outfit is ideal for travel. When you have a jam-packed day that starts when the sun rises, you don't want to waste any time picking out what to wear. This is where a jumpsuit or boilersuit comes in handy.

Amo + Skip Jumpsuit

Midi Skirt + Crossbody Bag + Sweater

travel-outfits-225762-1705552207053-main

A crossbody you can keep close to you will ensure your belongings are secure on public transportation. An A-line skirt, a sweater, and statement kicks complete the look.

Cos + Ripple Crossbody

Flowy Top + Wide-Leg Jeans + Flats

travel-outfits-225762-1705552216115-main

I tend to turn to less-fitted silhouettes on vacay to keep things easy and effortless. A flowy top and wide-leg jeans are just the solution.

Levi's + Ribcage Wide Leg Jeans

Maxi Skirt + Knit Polo

travel-outfits-225762-1705552233832-main

For an ensemble that looks pulled together but actually takes five minutes to put on, a knit polo and maxi skirt are all you need. Add your crossbody or top-handle bag to really level things up.

Mango + Long Knitted Skirt

Breezy Pants + White Button-Down

travel-outfits-225762-1705552237648-main

Don't deny yourself roomy silhouettes! This is the kind of outfit that can take you off the plane and straight to lunch if you don't have time to decompress and change outfits at your hotel.

H&M + Oxford Shirt

Quilted Coat + Shoulder Bag + Chunky Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552245134-main

A coat that doubles as a blanket and/or a pillow on the plane and one you can wear on the daily is a great travel piece if you're heading somewhere chilly. Pack a pair of chunky dad sneakers and a shoulder bag, and you're ready for a day of exploring.

Everlane + The ReNew Long Liner

Jacket + Plaid Skirt + Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552248705-main

Going somewhere with pretty mild weather? Opt for plaid skirt and sneakers. You can add a bomber in this rich brown shade if the temperature fluctuates.

Mango + 100% Leather Bomber Jacket

Knit Sweater + Jeans + Bold Accessories

travel-outfits-225762-1705552252561-main

A cozy sweater, straight-leg jeans, and red accessories are an outfit formula you'll want to remember. And definitely make sure to stop by a café while you're out to fuel up before you hit the pavement again.

RE/DONE + Crewneck Cable Pullover

Wrap Coat + Comfortable Boots

travel-outfits-225762-1705552259889-main

Rainy weather won't get you down if you have a fab coat to stay dry in. A trench or raincoat is a must if it's a rainy forecast during your travels, but you can liven it up with bright footwear.

Good American + Chino Trench Coat

Coat + Sneakers + Baggy Jeans

travel-outfits-225762-1705552265647-main

Layer up with a scarf and beanie if your long coat isn't enough to keep you warm. Layering pieces that can go with several outfits are always great to pack, and as someone who lives in sunny Los Angeles, I now relish the trips where I can finally pack my versatile winter clothes.

New Balance x Ganni + 1906R

Track Jacket + Comfy Jeans

travel-outfits-225762-1705552269688-main

I've worn Adidas shorts on so many trips now, and I've found that sporty pieces are the best to pack. They are durable, made to withstand the elements, and come in handy when you start sweating from all those steps you're getting in. A track jacket is a great piece to wear over a T-shirt or tank. Simply add some fun jeans and a colorful bag, and you'll feel like a street style star wherever you are.

Lacoste + Logo Monogram Stripe Track Jacket

White Blouse + Black Maxi + Sneakers

travel-outfits-225762-1705552433277-main

A sheer white top is a godsend for those extremely hot travel days. Also, I've worn this black cotton maxi skirt on countless trips. It's one of the best travel items I own thanks to the breezy fit and elastic waist.

Doen + The Jane Blouse

Cutout Dress + Sandals + Net Bag

travel-outfits-225762-1705552407610-main

If it's more of a beach vacation, you definitely want to travel with some comfortable sandals and a larger tote that can fit all your beach-day belongings. I find that these net bags fold very flat in a suitcase, but they can fit a seemingly endless amount.

SIR. + Lupita Shaped Midi Dress

After finally getting an internship at Town & Country in 2015, she moved to New York City and continued to get her footing in the industry with stints at Cosmopolitan , W magazine, Harper's Bazaar , and Moda Operandi. In 2017, she returned to Cosmo full time, starting off as the beauty and fashion editorial assistant and working her way to fashion editor. She contributed to both the website and print issues, pitching new ideas, forecasting trends, covering red carpet events, and informing the overall coverage and brand voice. After five years in NYC, she moved to the West Coast for the sunshine and the change of pace. As a freelance fashion editor, she still contributes to Cosmo and now Who What Wear. She's always trying to get ahead of the next big trend before it goes mainstream and loves discovering fashion brands with a unique point of view (Chopova Lowena, Sandy Liang, and Bode being some of her current favorites). She also spends an unhealthy amount of time online shopping for the perfect piece, and now that she's in L.A., she's rediscovering her soft spot for malls. On the weekends, you can find her walking around the Silver Lake Reservoir, trying to catch up on her tan at Venice Beach, and probably ordering a Chinese chicken salad at Joan's on Third.

35 Best Women's Loungewear Sets to Pack on Your Next Trip

By Madison Flager and Paris Wilson

35 Best Women's Loungewear Sets to Pack on Your Next Trip

All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.

Read on for 35 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .

This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date. Additional reporting by Meaghan Kenny.

The Aerie LumberJane collection has been one of the brand's more popular releases. The collection features breathable, lightweight waffle fabric in shirts, shorts, and now polos. The LumberJane polo and short set are perfect for lazy vacation days spent shuffling around in your slippers . Each piece has raw seams along the sleeves, sides, and back that gives it a more lived-in look.

Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.

We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. This set is made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.

Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Fleece, Knitwear, Sweater, and Sweatshirt

This chic pullover and sweat shorts both don the recognizable Alexander Wang logo. While the set is one of the trendiest pieces on our list, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how soft the heavy brushed cotton terry is. Style the set with a small crossbody bag and pair of chunky dad sneakers for quick errands or walks around the city.

Image may contain: Clothing, Pants, Home Decor, Linen, Adult, Person, Accessories, Jewelry, Necklace, and Pajamas

You can never go wrong with a simple high-waisted pant and tank top combo. The Anrabess sleeveless set is lightweight and thin, making it supremely packable in any weekender bag or carry-on. At just $30, it is one of the most affordable loungewear sets on our list.

Image may contain: Clothing, Pants, Adult, Person, Dress, Formal Wear, and Fashion

Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit? Spanx AirEssentials jumpsuit is one of the brand's bestsellers—and it's just been restocked in more colors. We love the drawstring tie at the waist that gives the jumpsuit a more fitted and flattering look.

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Knitwear, Sweater, Sweatshirt, and Pants

Traveler 's commerce producer, Paris Wilson , swears by Roots' loungewear. “I've been raving about Roots for years. It's hard to find a brand that doesn't skimp on quality,” she says. The Luxe Crew and Pintuck pant are made from a cotton and cashmere blend. While the material gives it a more chic look, the fit of the set is more relaxed and loose. This can easily be dressed up or down, and would look great with a sleek pair of white sneakers .

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Adult, Person, Shorts, Knitwear, Sweater, and Sweatshirt

The loose fit of the Ramona sweatshirt compliments the brand's drawstring waist Jane shorts. The rouched terry fabric on the inside of each garment keeps you warm and cozy without overheating. As warmer days approach, the yellow dip-dye design is a must-have for your spring and summer wardrobe .

Image may contain: Fashion

If you're looking for a more polished look, the Malibu set is for you. The set is made up of the Frank & Eileen Audrey Capelet and the Catherine Sweatpant . Each piece is made from 100 percent cotton triple fleece, making it incredibly soft. It's the perfect set for a long road trip or a chilly plane.

Image may contain: Clothing, Shorts, Tank Top, and Vest

The Cool Stretch collection from Pact is made from breathable organic cotton. The soft, thin layers are a go-to summer fit when temperatures are high and you just want to chill inside. The tank top and shorts set comes in seven colorways and can be paired with Pact's Airplane cardigan or a cozy hoodie .

easy travel fashion

If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.

easy travel fashion

This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .

easy travel fashion

The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.

easy travel fashion

You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .

easy travel fashion

The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.

easy travel fashion

Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.

easy travel fashion

There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.

easy travel fashion

A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .

easy travel fashion

Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.

San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.

Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.

Image may contain: Suit, Coat, Clothing, Overcoat, Apparel, Standing, Human, and Person

While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Shorts, Human, and Person

Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pants, Khaki, Home Decor, and Linen

Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, and Person

Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.

easy travel fashion

We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.

easy travel fashion

Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.

Image may contain: Clothing, Suit, Overcoat, Apparel, Coat, Human, and Person

This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, Person, Standing, and Pants

Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Dress, Human, Person, and Pants

Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, and Pants

Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pajamas, Human, and Person

Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Footwear, Shoe, Human, Person, Suit, Coat, Overcoat, Sleeve, and Long Sleeve

You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.

easy travel fashion

Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

The Best Travel Clothing for Women in 2020

The Best Travel Clothing for Women in 2023

Ladies, if you’ve looked for the perfect travel dress or a pair of go-with-anything pants you can pack for every adventure, you know what a struggle it can be to find the best women’s travel clothes.

We want clothes that look good, but also perform—and usually it’s a one-or-the-other game. Fashion brands might look good on the ‘gram, but use unbreathable fabrics that pill, wrinkle, or take forever to dry. On the other end, athletic and outdoor clothing have high-performance technical features, but may lack in style (or, at least, the right style for the occasion).

Fortunately, women have access to a growing number of options for fashionable and functional travel clothes. Larger brands have been adapting their lines to the rising popularity of travel, alongside the increase in smaller companies focused on technical, travel-friendly women’s clothes. Gone are the days when travel means wearing your yoga pants for three days straight. Instead, find the best travel clothes for women among these brands.

VacayStyle

The best wrinkle-free travel clothes for women

No one wants their clothes to dissolve into a wrinkled mess in their luggage. And while pro packing techniques can help, clothes made out of wrinkle-resistant materials are an even better solution to the problem.

ADAY : Leggings and pullover

Everything from ADAY’s line of travel-friendly clothing is virtually impossible to wrinkle, odor-resistant, and pill-resistant. Specializing in technical clothing for women, ADAY offers something most women’s clothing brands don’t: timeless fashion pieces with ultra-practical features. But if your mind immediately flipped to zip-off hiking pants at the thought of “technical clothing”, worry not. ADAY’s clothes are fashionable enough for chic city streets and polished enough for out of town business meetings.

If you’re new to the brand, start with their best-selling Throw and Roll Leggings and Like a Boss Pullover , and the Dream Harder Tank to toss on underneath. All three are breathable, sleek, and ultra-comfortable—like a fashion-forward upgrade to your athleisure airplane outfit.

Lunya leggings Aday jacket

Everlane : Japanese GoWeave

Everlane has a cult-like following from fans who love their stylish—but not overly trendy—modern basics. When it comes to travel, their dresses, tops, and pants from the Japanese GoWeave collection come out on top.

This fabric is lightweight and breathable, yet has enough weight to provide structure and durability. It’s also a surprisingly wrinkle-resistant material (which I can’t say about their cotton), and holds its shape well while wearing it. After a full day in one of their GoWeave dresses , it still looked just as fresh as when I had put it on in the morning.

For business travelers , their dresses and pants have an added superpower: they’re simple enough that you can dress them up or down, and magically transform your outfit from workday to day off.

Everlane Japanese GoWeave Dress, Cuyana bodysuit

The best women’s travel clothes for long flights

While you might get away with jeans on a quick two-hour flight, long flights require a different— and cozier—kind of attire. The best travel clothes for long flights are comfortable, stretchy, and versatile enough to keep you cool in a hot plane or airport, but warm when it gets inexplicably cold the next minute.

ThirdLove : WonderKnit Pajama Jogger set

While we’d all love to rock our favorite pair of sweatpants on a 12-hour flight to Asia, they’re not the most fashionable or easiest to pack. However, a lightweight pair of joggers, like Third Love’s WonderKnit Pajama Jogger is a more polished and flattering alternative that also packs down small in your luggage. Made from an ultra-soft and easy-to-wash cotton jersey blend fabric, this jogger feels like you’re being hugged by a cloud. The tapered and fitted legs also help keep the joggers from riding up if you move around a lot.

Ringing in at $54 for the jogger (with a matching WonderKnit Pajama Tee available for $45), it’s a solid mid-range choice for in-flight outfits, especially considering that it’s well made enough to last a while.

ThirdLove WonderKnit™ Pajama Jogger

Lunya : Restore Leggings

The best part about Lunya’s Restore Travel Set ($298) are their Restore Leggings. Made from a soft and breathable pima-polyester blend, these leggings feel more like a cozy pair of sweatpants than athletic yoga pants. However, their fitted cut means they have a far more stylish appearance than sweatpants, giving travelers that incognito comfort you want from an airplane outfit. Plus, they have generous pockets that you can *actually* fit your phone in.

The only downside is that the colored versions of Lunya’s Restore leggings look like lounge/sleepwear—the black version less so. Unless you don’t mind roaming the airport in a pair of (albeit, elevated) PJs, I’d recommend pairing the leggings with a lightweight top and sweater/jacket in a contrasting color instead of rocking the full Restore ensemble.

Travel Tube Blankets : Classic charcoal wrap

I’m a firm believer that no long flight packing list is complete without a blanket scarf—especially on flights that want to charge us broke economy folks to rent a blanket. For this, Travel Tube Blankets’ knit classic charcoal scarf ($65) is my go-to.

True to the name, the scarf is basically a giant tube that can be worn several ways. While out and about, you can bunch it up to wear as an infinity scarf. On long flights, extend it fully and step into the tube so it wraps around your entire body—and stays there, even during fidgety in-flight naps. Plus, the knit fabric feels like a soft, well-loved t-shirt. My only complaint is that it doesn’t pack down super small, so I usually end up wearing it in transit.

Travel Tube Blankets

White and Warren : Travel Wrap

A favorite of the editors at Conde Nast Traveler, White and Warren’s luxuriously soft cashmere travel wraps ($350) will make you feel like you’ve just gotten a travel upgrade, even if you’re not sitting in first class. Unlike Travel Tube Blankets, these wraps are open-ended, square scarves, so they’ll function more like a blanket than a sleeping bag. Even so, these wraps, which come in a regular and mini size, are cozy, stylish, and most importantly, multi-purpose alternatives to a travel blanket.

The best easy-care travel clothes for women

No one’s got time for a dry-cleaner on vacation. Whether you’re traveling to a more rugged destination or one-bagging it and need a set of easy-to-wash travel clothes, these clothes are both durable and easy to wash en route.

prAna : Halle and Briann pant

Light packers love prAna. Their clothes are technical and easy to care for, and particularly popular among adventure travelers who want a durable yet comfortable pair of pants that can withstand rugged hikes, climbs, and changes in temperature.

Of all of their pants, the Halle Pant ($95) is a crowd favorite thanks to its durable, water-resistant fabric and comfortable boot-cut fit. For Anna of Travel Like Anna , it’s her go-to for cold and warm-weather travels alike, since they can easily convert into capris.

Personally, I have a more curvy figure and the cut of the Halle Pant doesn’t look great. However, their more fitted Briann Pant ($40 on sale) is made from the same fabric and still as durable and water-resistant as the Halle. The only downside is that they don’t convert to capris (if that’s a feature you want) but it’s a good second option if you or your curves don’t love the Halle.

For a full outfit, pair your Halle or Briann pants with prAna’s Cozy Up Tank ($45) which is a soft, wrinkle-free, odor-resistant tank just made for travel. Bonus: the white version isn’t see-through.

prAna Halle Pant and Briann Pant

DUER : Denim shorts and jeans

Yes, you read it right, DUER makes travel-friendly jeans . Although technical synthetic materials and merino wool tend to top the lists for best travel fabrics, DUER’s cotton-polyester blend can hang with the best of them. Born from a mission to combine fashion and function, DUER designed a fashionable line of jeans which are also antimicrobial, stretchy, and temperature-regulating.

IRL, these jeans lived up to my expectations. They’re stretchy enough to bike, hike, and move around in, and (the jean shorts at least) were still breathable in hot climates—not like traditional denim. When it comes to jeans, “perfect fit” means something different for everyone. So check out DUER’s line of women’s pants and jeans for your next wear-everywhere pair.

The best quick-dry women’s clothing for travel

Quick-drying fabrics are great for travel. Not only do they dry fast after a wash, but they also wick sweat away—clear advantage whether you’re working up a sweat hiking a trail or exploring a new city. For quick-drying women’s travel clothes, you’ll find a lot of options in outdoor and athletic brands, but also among those specializing in merino wool.

Uniqlo : AIRism underwear and tops

Uniqlo is one of the best budget brands for women’s travel clothes. While their affordable, packable light down jacket gets most of the attention, their underwear and basic tops from the AIRism collection are also worth considering for your travel wardrobe.

Although the AIRism tops and underwear use a fabric made from a synthetic nylon blend, it functions similarly to merino wool—at a fraction of the price. It’s breathable, adapts to different weather and temperatures, and, of course, dries quickly.

The only downside is that the AIRism collection tends to be a bit thinner and less durable than more expensive clothes from other, similarly functioning brands (i.e. it won’t last or retain its shape for as long). But, for the price point, it’s hard to beat.

Uniqlo AIRism

Woolly : merino wool tanks and t-shirts

Merino wool is a fabric so jam-packed with travel-friendly features, it’s hard to believe it’s also 100% natural. Made from a specific breed of sheep’s wool, merino is sweat-wicking, temperature regulating, breathable, odor-resistant, and wrinkle-resistant. Unlike other types of wool, it’s soft, not itchy. Even for folks like me, who are sensitive to itchy wools, it’s a really comfortable and easy-to-wear material.

Unfortunately, merino wool can be a bit pricey—but not Woolly. Seattle-based Woolly makes basic merino wool tees and tanks that are just as good as those at higher price points.

Woolly Tank Top and Crew Neck Tee

Athleta : Merino Wool Turtleneck & Wander Slim Ankle Pants

Quick-dry fabrics are more prominent in athletic and outdoor clothes, so it’s no surprise that Gap’s athletic line, Athleta, has a wide selection of sweat-wicking and quick-drying tops, pants, jackets, and underwear. However, they have some surprisingly street-style ready pieces in their collection which work for travelers who want the function of an athletic piece, but not the style. And, in true Gap fashion, these styles tend to be more timeless than other athletic brands, lending them a versatility and easy-to-match quality you want in travel gear.

Within their travel and resort collection , I recommend their Ascent Seamless Turtleneck , which at $89 is a decent price for a merino wool blend top, as well as their Brooklyn Mid Rise Ankle Pant ($99). These simple black pants (which come in petite and tall sizes) can be styled for any situation, whether it’s a day of sightseeing, hiking, or even work.

Athleta Ascent Seamless Turtleneck and Brooklyn Mid Rise Ankle Pant

lululemon : Wunder Under High-Rise Tights

Over the years, I’ve tested a lot of travel clothes. But despite it all, my trusty, simple, all-black lululemon leggings are still one of my favorite and most versatile pieces in my travel wardrobe.

They have the perfect amount of stretch, softness, and breathability for long flights, yet are discreetly athletic enough to look appropriate off the mat paired with boots or sneakers and a light sweater. They’re also versatile, working well for hikes, yoga, underlayers, and even casual days in urban destinations. On top of all of this, they’re quick-drying and sweat-wicking.

We all already know they’re not the cheapest, but they’re durable and will last through years of adventures.

The best chic and stylish travel clothes for women

Whether it’s your honeymoon or an Instagram-heavy trip to Paris, some trips demand a more chic and stylish set of travel clothes. These brands provide styles you’ll look damn good in, while standing up to your travel needs.

Londre : The Multiway swimsuit

The swimsuits made by the Vancouver-based bodysuit brand, Londre, are nothing if not sexy. From backless one-pieces to flattering high-waist bikinis, Londre’s swimsuits are chic in a timeless, French-girl sort of way.

It’s not style alone that makes them one of our top picks for women’s travel clothes. The fabric Londre uses for their swimsuits is odor-resistant, quick dry, and (get ready for this) has a matte finish designed to let their one-pieces double as a body suit. Not to mention, each suit is made from recycled plastic. Yes, they’re stylish, but they also have technical, travel-friendly features, and an eco-friendly mission that makes them stand out from other swimsuits.

Although you can’t go wrong with any of their suits, The Multiway ($169) allows you to get multiple styles in one suit. However, the long strap means it doesn’t pack down super small. If you’re okay forfeiting some flexibility in style for packability, I’d recommend The Minimalist ($149) in matte black or white instead—it’ll still be able to double as a body suit.

Londre bodysuit

Cuyana : Luxury Maxi Wrap and Bodysuit

Although Cuyana originally launched as a bag brand, they’ve since added an ever-expanding clothing line to their catalog. True to their “fewer, better things” mission, it’s full of well-made, timeless, go-with-anything pieces that don’t just allow you to own less— but pack less as well. After all, why bring three sweaters when you have one that fits perfectly and matches everything?

In general, Cuyana is more focused on elevating wardrobe basics than engineering the ultimate wrinkle/odor/water-proof clothes, but a pima-modal blend, which they use for a number of pieces, is good for travel. It’s stronger (i.e. less likely to wrinkle) than 100% cotton, breathable, and more resistant to shrinkage. Similarly, their micromodal fabric is incredibly soft, moisture-wicking, and also breathable.

If you’re looking at pieces from Cuyana for your travel wardrobe , skip the silks (though they pack light, they wrinkle easily). Instead, look for their pima cotton and modal blend staples, like their Scoop Neck Dress ($178), or their micromodal Stretch Long Sleeve Tee ($78).

Cuyana

The best women’s travel clothing for hot climates

For warm weather adventure travel, prAna (mentioned above) and Smartwool (next up) are two of the best brands for clothes. But, for cute honeymoon, vacation, or post-adventure lounging outfits, our next picks take the spotlight.

Toad&Co : Windmere, Rosemarie

I’m not sure if we should be this excited for pockets, but I’m legitimately this excited for pockets. On dresses. Made from eco-friendly materials. With the exception of a few sweater dresses, pretty much every one of Toad&Co’s travel-ready dresses has pockets, which is reason enough to love them.

But it’s not just pockets that make Toad&Co’s crowd favorites, like the Windmere and Rosemarie dresses excellent additions to your packing list. They’re also made from travel-friendly fabrics, like a sturdy, hard-to-shrink organic cotton and Tencel blend (Windmere and Rosemarie). The designs are simple and mostly come in solid colors, making them easy to style up or down depending on the occasion.

When buying a dress, pay attention to seasonality. Toad&Co sometimes rolls out seasonal variants of old favorites, like a thicker fabric for their fall/winter collection.

Toad&Co

Women’s travel clothing for cold climates

When traveling to colder destinations, don’t mess with bulky pea coats and sweaters. To avoid surrendering half of your luggage space to your outerwear, travel with a down jacket and layerable pieces.

Arc’teryx : Patera Parka & Cerium

For cool but wet destinations (hey, Dublin) Arc’teryx’s Patera Parka is a stylish yet high-performance pick. Made from a lightweight GORE-TEX fabric, the Patera is a high-quality jacket that effortlessly resists and protects against the elements—seriously, the raindrops just roll off, keeping you dry and happy.

Except, it doesn’t look like it’s meant for the outdoors. With a sleek, mid-thigh cut and soft, muted colors, and discreet side pockets, the Patera has a much more urban look than most rain jackets from both Arc’teryx and other outdoor brands. For urban and adventure travelers alike, this versatile, high-performance jacket meets the best of fashion and function.

For even colder destinations, Arc’teryx’s Cerium down jacket will give you more warmth, while also packing down into a small and lightweight—under 10 ounces (255 grams)—package. It’s lightweight enough to be worn on its own over a t-shirt in cool fall weather, or over a warmer base layer if temperatures drop below freezing. Made from high-quality 850 fill-power down, it’s both warm for its weight and super compressible, so it won’t take up much room in your bag when you’re not wearing it. However, it’s not waterproof and may need a shell over it for wet, winter weather.

Arc'teryx Patera Parka and Cerium Jacket

Patagonia : Down Sweater Hoody

A high-quality and high-performing down jacket doesn’t come cheap, but Patagonia’s Down Sweater Hoody , at $329, is one of the more affordable jackets in its category. It’s slightly less water resistant and weighs 3.2 ounces (88 grams) more than the Cerium, but is still overall warm and compact. It packs down small, and keeps you warm with an ethically-sourced down lining— which is in line with Patagonia’s broader mission to produce sustainable gear. For most travelers, especially those who mostly stick to urban destinations, it’s more than you’ll need for your adventures.

Patagonia Women's Down Sweater Hoody

Smartwool : Base layers

The secret to packing light in cold weather? Layers.

Well, layers and a smaller bag.

But seriously, easy-to-layer pieces are a frequent traveler’s secret to keeping their winter packing list light and avoiding bulky, hard-to-pack sweaters and jackets. For cold climate base layers , Smartwool has your back. Made from merino wool (hands down the best travel fabric for many, many reasons), Smartwool’s base layers are naturally temperature-regulating, sweat-wicking, and odor-resistant.

For cold-weather travel, throw on a pair of Smartwool’s base layer bottoms and long sleeve underneath your favorite travel outfit to transform it into a winter-ready ensemble.

Best business travel clothes brands for women

Not every trip is fun and adventure. Us hustling ladies have to work, too. While traditional women’s business clothing is perhaps the worst example of form over function, there are a few standout brands changing that. These brands have designed business-ready apparel for women (blazers, work pants, blouses, and skirts) with technical, travel-ready features.

Ministry of Supply : Kinetic Blazer, Dress, and Pants

When it comes to finding the perfect women’s blazer for travel, Ministry of Supply has perhaps the best option out there. At $288, the Kinetic Blazer is definitely an investment piece, but if you often travel for work, it’s worth it.

The blazer is made from Ministry of Supply’s synthetic, polyester “Kinetic” fabric, which is moisture-wicking, breathable, wrinkle-resistant, and (yes!) machine washable. Its four-way stretch also makes it incredibly comfortable to wear, while still maintaining the polished structure of a more traditional wool blazer. Last but certainly not least, it comes with two outside pockets and one inner pocket—all of which are actually, truly, really functional pockets.

To complete your work travel wardrobe, Ministry of Supply also has a line of professional pants , blouses and dresses . With Ministry of Supply, gone are evenings spent ironing your blazer with a tiny hotel iron or end-of-day conference sessions in a blouse that’s turned into a rumpled mess.

Ministry of Supply Kinetic Blazer and Kinetic Sheath Dress

Betabrand : Dress yoga pants

Not all of us have the luxury of working in our yoga pants (#FreelancerLife) but Betabrand’s popular dress yoga pants bring that perk to the business casual world. As the name implies, these pants look business but are covertly asana-ready.

If you need to go straight from boarding gate to board room, these pants are quite possibly the best accomplice for the job. They’re comfortable and breathable enough for flights but professional in style. They will seamlessly glide through the transition—and spare you from pulling a Clark Kent in a tiny airplane bathroom.

Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants

Wool& : Dresses

Wool& is the sister brand to Portland-based merino wool company, Wool&Prince . While Wool& has several different dress styles and cuts available, the one thing they all have in common is the material: merino wool (some are 100% while others are a blend of merino and nylon). Like anything made from this travel super-fabric, they’re breathable, moisture-wicking, odor-resistant, wrinkle-resistant, and quick to dry.

For cooler weather or transitional seasons, their Rowena dress is a simple piece you can easily dress up for business meetings, or down for a casual day on the town. No matter which dress you select, you might find yourself getting rid of every other dress you’ve ever owned and simply living in Wool&’s do-everything dresses.

Get ready to fly in style with the best travel clothes for women

The best women’s travel clothing doesn’t sacrifice fashion for function—or vice versa. Brands that truly excel at women’s travel clothes do both. For function, look for fabrics with stretch that are sweat-wicking, breathable, odor-resistant, and wrinkle-resistant (like merino wool). Bonus points for anything that’s quick-dry or has pockets. For fashion, focus on timeless, well-tailored basics that can go with everything—so you can build more outfits with fewer articles of clothing.

Whether you’re a frequent business traveler, or prepping for an outdoor adventure in some far-flung corner of the globe, these brands will have you covered (literally) for your next trip.

best travel outfit ideas for women on oprah daily

Our editors handpick the products that we feature. We may earn commission from the links on this page.

When it comes to travel, we know you need to find the perfect balance between comfort and style. After all, it’s great to look put together while hopping on a flight, but not at the cost of your comfort—especially on long-haul trips. Rest assured, we've curated a list of wardrobe essentials to achieve flawless travel and airport outfits, whether you are exploring a new destination for business or pleasure.

When it comes to the best travel outfits for women, accessories play a critical role in keeping you comfy and organized. All you have to do is remember a comfortable pair of shoes , compression socks to keep things moving, an eye mask that's an upgrade from the one the airline provides, and a chic shawl that doubles as a blanket. And of course, no travel outfit would be complete without a fashionable (and functional!) carry-on bag on your arm or atop your luggage . This bag should house all of your essentials and still level up your airport outfit. Keep reading for some of the best travel and airport outfit ideas your next trip.

Compression Socks with Enhanced Cushioning (3 Pack)

In black, olive green, or dark blue, the jacket will be your go-to for travel. Keep in mind, it runs slightly big in order to allow for comfortable layering of hoodies or sweaters underneath. There's a reason why Oprah tapped it on her Favorite Things list .

Up your travel game with a comfortable, yet stylish travel dress that will take your jet set look to new heights.

Before settling on a frock, make sure that it’s easy to pack, wrinkle-free, and can take you from day to night in an instant. Remember, these basic elements are fundamental to finding the perfect travel dress for your trip. Plus, they’re a godsend for those who are prone to overpacking. A fashion writer’s secret to travel style? It’s black and blue.

Breaking this primary rule of fashion is an easy way to stand out.

easy travel fashion

Welcome to The Upgrade, By The Way’s series on travel hacks and hot takes. See how to submit here.

I have spent nearly a decade traveling twice and sometimes three or four times a year to Europe for work, which entails watching extravagant clothes appear in fashion shows for weeks at a time .

This sounds like an absolute dream, and it is, except for one thing: You have to look amazing every single day. The usual packing pragmatism — layering on the plane, cramming loose cotton separates into compression bags and sticking to a small wardrobe of basics — for the sake of getting it all into a carry-on is basically impossible.

You have not felt the true sting of inadequacy until you are sitting in your second-row seat wearing your little vintage 1980s dress (that felt very Sloane Ranger when you were leaving your hotel!) when a fashion editor walks in wearing something effortlessly awesome. Suddenly, you feel like Diana beholding Camilla. There’s a stylist in an outrageous vinyl dress held together with metal rings, paired with Birkenstock sandals. Or an editor in just the most perfectly crisp black blazer and white trousers with beat-up driving moccasins. Or a writer in a floor-length rainbow striped coat that makes staying warm look like an act of decadence.

It is not the celebrities that make you feel insecure — it’s the other people who are there to work. These are not people sitting in front of hair and makeup chairs, with stylists greasing them into designer duds. They have, to paraphrase the ol’ quote about Beyoncé's productivity, just as many hours in the day as you, and just as many emails to write and deadlines to deliver on.

Besides, refusing to play the game even just a little bit makes you look like a snob. Clothes are supposed to be fun! So a few years ago, I developed a hack for chic: black and navy . It works in a context that demands style because, well, it breaks one of the primary rules of fashion, which is that black and navy are not to be seen together.

But all black was too much for me; color lifts your mood, after all, even if it’s a color (blue) that shares its name with the saddest music genre. And I liked the idea that what felt like ease to me could also read like a daring choice.

Most importantly, it allowed me to boil down my suitcase to a formula, rather than something that felt like the small, terrifying type that appears in the corners of fashion magazine spreads, mostly to inform you that you cannot afford what appears to be a plain white T-shirt. I have a lot of nifty things in my wardrobe, sure, but who wants to cart three suitcases (and hat boxes) around Europe for three weeks just to prove how many Dries Van Noten coats they have? The goal of packing stylishly is to feel like yourself, well-presented.

The first few times I did this, I would pull a navy or black item out of the closet, look at the other items assembled thus far, and ensure that it went with at least three of the other pieces. But I quickly realized that even a slightly quirky pairing looked cool. So I work from a recipe of, roughly:

  • Two skirts: something that flows and something that hugs.
  • Three jackets: a classic blazer, something weird and an open-front wool jacket (like this by House of Dagmar , which can be belted and layered into myriad shapes, from 1950s couture to German techno DJ).
  • One pair of trousers.
  • One black dress.
  • Three T-shirts (I like Uniqlo’s AIRism shirts , which breathe nicely and have a boxy shape that, again, makes them look and feel like a real “style choice”).
  • Black shoes, because shiny black adds texture that helps your rule-breaking combination look very intentional. I bring a low heel, a brogue without a heel and a fancy shoe, because just swapping a casual shoe for a dress shoe changes the direction of your whole thing.

Then you add your small bag of tricks. Scarves of all different colors, tights with polka dot or lace prints, and, the piece de resistance, splashes of red, like crimson cotton dress socks or something with a bit of cashmere. People will notice your cute little red gloves, thus forgetting that you wore that jacket yesterday and that skirt the day before. Because this is true in fashion as much as it is anywhere else: No one is paying as much attention to what you’re wearing as you.

Do you tend to reach for one outfit all the time in your closet? The same can be said for travel outfits. Our readers share their recommendations for the all time best travel outfits so you can feel comfortable and chic wherever you go. Find out what they said!

The Best Travel Outfits

As you can guess from our name, we’re all about traveling fashionably while still staying comfortable and weather-appropriate. We’re also big on capsule wardrobes and packing minimally.

With this in mind, we asked our readers the ultimate question:

If you could only wear one outfit every single day for an entire trip, what would it be?

Here’s what our readers say are the best travel outfits:

easy travel fashion

Cardigan | Top | Bag | Sunglasses | Earrings | Skirt | Lipstick | Flats

Feminine Chic

“ A sleeveless top, cardigan, black skirt, and ballet flats . I think that could be dressed up or down for most of my activities.”

If you prefer dresses and skirts to pants, this is a great travel outfit idea for summer or warmer spring and fall seasons. This type of outfit can easily be dressed up or down, so you can take it from day or night.

For cooler seasons, swap the sleeveless top for a sweater and add tights. Another reader recommended adding a scarf to this look for a pop of color or warmth.

easy travel fashion

Backpack | Boots | Dress | Lipstick | Leggings | Necklace | Palette

Winter Romance

“ Merino wool dress or tunic, black leggings, necklace, and ankle boots. ”

When we envision strolling down the old cobblestone streets of Europe, we think of this outfit. There’s nothing more comfy and cozy yet chic and sophisticated as a dress with tights and boots.

Even if you don’t normally wear dresses, a merino tunic with leggings is a nice alternative, and is comfy enough for plane rides while stylish enough for a dinner at a nice restaurant.

For ankle boots, go for a flat heel if you plan on walking a lot, or a short heel for dressier occasions.

You can still pack your light  in a small suitcase even when you travel in winter by using packing cubes to compress your clothing as shown in this video !

easy travel fashion

Hat | Jeans | Sunglasses | Bag | Top | Earrings | Sandals | Lipstick | Sunscreen | Cardigan

Beachside Casual

“ My distressed girlfriend jeans, a white or black tee, long open cardigan, and my flip flops !”

As much as dressing up is fun, there’s nothing better than jeans and a tee. Girlfriend jeans are the most comfortable jeans style. To keep from looking sloppy, go for a slimmer fitting tee.

When you’re by the beach or in locations like Florida or Southern California, take along a duster cardigan for warmth and flip flops for shoes.

And if you aren’t a fan of jeans, another reader recommended swapping denim pants for a maxi skirt.

easy travel fashion

Top  | Scarf | Longsleeve | Bag | Earrings |  Leggings  | Spray |  Boots

Airplane Comfort

“ Comfy leggings, a soft material t-shirt, ankle boots, and my Icebreaker long-sleeve shirt layered over the t-shirt in case it gets cold.”

Planes are notoriously horrible in terms of temperature. Sometimes it’s freezing, while other times it’s stuffy and hot. This outfit is the perfect solution.

We recommend workout-type leggings, which help you keep a steadier body temperature. The t-shirt will keep you comfy if it gets warm. If it’s cold, layer with the long-sleeve shirt.

Ankle boots will keep your feet warm, too. For an easier trip through security, go for a slip-on or zip style bootie so you can quickly slip them on or off. Or, pull on some compression socks for comfort.

easy travel fashion

Cardigan  | Watch |  Top  |  Earrings  | Sunglasses | Shoes |  Bag  |  Jeans

Sporty and Stylish

“ Jeans, a tee, a boyfriend cardigan, and Superga tennis shoes .”

So many readers recommended the ultimate three-piece outfit formula: jeans, a tee, and sneakers. One recommended black jeans with a white v-neck tee for classic sophistication. Or, go for more colorful options if you’re traveling to South America, Spain, or another location known for color.

When it gets cool, layer with a boyfriend cardigan or an open chambray button down top.

And for sneakers, we can’t get enough of Superga . White is perfect for a preppy style, while black or grey is great if you’re worried about getting them dirty.

easy travel fashion

Bracelet | Sunglasses | Sandals | Dress | Lip Balm | Necklace |  Bag

Fashion Meets Function

“If I had to choose just one outfit, I’d go for a simple black dress and Birkenstocks with my favorite leather fringe necklace .”

A black dress is the perfect combination of fashion and function. Black never goes out of style, and you can go longer without washing it. You can easily transform it with jewelry and scarves.

As for shoes, we love Birkenstocks! They’re the comfiest sandals with amazing support. There are so many styles, too, so there’s something for everyone.

easy travel fashion

Blouse | Coat | Scarf | Lipstick |  Bag  | Flats | Pants

Classic Sophistication

“ Black ankle-length pants, a white button down blouse, ballet flats, a trench coat and silk scarf .”

When you’re traveling to France or Italy, what better than to take a styling cue from Audrey Hepburn! A white-button down is always a classic option, and there are a number of non-ironing styles, too.

Another reader recommended this same outfit but swapped the flats for loafers and the black pants for dark skinny jeans.

Eunice

I find it almost impossible to withstand the cold (-2-10), specifically in England, by wearing tights under a dress. I’ve tried thermal with jeans, freezing cold still. I’ve tried fleece lined pants, still very cold. I pair them with tall leather boots. I’m allergic to wool, so wool base layer is out. What can I do to keep my legs warm if I choose to wear tights? I was thinking thermal under the dress, but then I’ll bulk up and the “look” isn’t quite going to be there. ?

Alex

Hi Eunice, thanks for your question! For other options please take a look at these posts for some ideas: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/tights-for-women/ https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/how-to-pack-for-cold-weather/ https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/how-to-pack-for-cold-weather/ Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you, Alex. I’ve been following your page for sometime now and have benefitted greatly from the articles I’ve read. This is still very tricky for me. What I meant is that if I still choose to wear a woollen dress, yet still feel freezing cold with fleece lined tights, do you think it’ll work if I wear another layer of thermal under the tights? Wouldn’t that bulk up, hence less attractive looking? I don’t have ultra slim legs to begin with ?

Hi Eunice, If you’re wearing a dress I’d wear a pair of regular black tights under a pair of fleece or warm leggings. It’s warmer than you’d think :). Hope this helps!

Sue martin

I’m going premium flight to Barbados and I want to wear a dress with 3” wedges, I’ll change my footwear for the flight. I’m 5’1 and size 16. I’m aware that I’m limited but I’m going to find a creaseless fabric probably navy spot or tan. I fancy midi length. Have you any ideas please? I’m 61 years of age but still like to dress trendy.

Hi Sue, thank you for your question. Have a look at this article for some different options for dresses: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/cute-summer-dresses-for-women/ I would highly recommend that you join our TFG facebook group and post your question there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/travelfashiongirls/ Its a fabulous community of helpful female travelers of all ages that have the best advice and recommendations to share. The 7 Very Best Alarm Clocks

Portrait of Jordan McMahon

In this article

  • Best overall
  • Best sunrise
  • Best smart display
  • Best smart speaker
  • Best analog

As convenient as it might be to use your phone as an alarm clock, standalone alarm clocks come with all kinds of features that can make waking up — or even going to sleep — a little less painful. Some have lights that simulate a gentle sunrise, while others can play bedtime stories or relaxing nature sounds to help you drift off. There are models that charge your phone overnight without taking up an extra spot on your power strip and still others with accompanying apps that let you choose from dozens of alarm sounds (just like your phone!) or sync to smart lights. A few even double as Bluetooth speakers .

The best-known newer brands in the space are Hatch and Loftie, with their feature-packed models, but you’ll still find a wide range of options from legacy electronics-makers Sharp and Braun. To find the best alarm clocks, I tested eight models by setting each atop my nightstand and dresser for at least a couple nights, trying each feature and taking notes on how effective each was at waking me up. I also spoke with Strategist writers about their favorites.

What we’re looking for

Alarm clocks can be either digital or analog, meaning they’ll either display the digits of the actual time or they’ll have a clock face with hands indicating the time. Digital clocks may be easier for some people to read at a glance (especially first thing in the morning), but analog clocks may be less distracting for someone trying to fall asleep.

Adjustable brightness

Displays with adjustable brightness allow you to see the time during the day but prevent the light from keeping you up at night when it’s time for bed.

Multiple alarms

Whether you prefer to set several alarms as an insurance measure, or want to share a clock with someone who wakes up at a different time than you, a clock with the ability to set multiple alarms will make things significantly easier.

Extra features

Some clocks have adjustable lights that simulate sunrise to help you wake up, or speakers that can play soothing sounds or guided meditations to help you get ready for bed. Others, like Amazon’s Echo Dot and Google’s Nest Hub, plug into other services to expand their capabilities and let you control other devices and services with your voice.

Sound options

Some people prefer to be roused with gentle tones, while others need a piercing siren to get them out of bed. I made sure to include both types on this list, as well as models with multiple sound options.

Best alarm clock overall

Sharp AccuSet Jumbo Mirror Display Alarm Clock

Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: Yes | Extra features: None | Sound options: None

For a basic alarm clock, Sharp’s AccuSet Jumbo impressed me with its thoughtful design, big display, and low price. You can adjust the brightness to three levels, and even the lowest setting can be seen in a well-lit room, but is still faint enough to not be disruptive at night. You can only set two alarms on this one, but it’s easy to do so, and changing them doesn’t take more than a minute or two.

You won’t be able to change the mildly sharp beeping of the alarm, but the sound works well without sounding too unpleasant first thing in the morning. On the back of this alarm, there’s a USB-A port you can use for charging your phone overnight. In 30 minutes, I was able to charge my iPhone 15 Pro Max from 54 percent up to 72 percent, which isn’t quite as much as you would get with fast charging, but that rate for overnight charging is fine.

You won’t get any of the features (like ambient noise, sunrise light, etc.) that come with smart clocks like the Loftie and Hatch Restore 2, but its simple setup and easy-to-see display make it an affordable and convenient option that had no trouble waking me up during my testing.

Best (less-expensive) alarm clock

DreamSky Compact Digital Alarm Clock

Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: No | Smart features: None | Sound options: One

DreamSky’s barebones model is quick to set up and shows the time in an easy-to-read, large display; it also shows the time of your next scheduled alarm.

Strategist editor Hilary Reid says she bought hers to reduce her overall screen time and that it’s been helpful in that pursuit. She likes that the clock’s numbers are big and easy to read — they’re significantly larger than the numbers on the Sharp AccuSet — but aren’t so vivid that they’ll keep you awake. “The numbers are orange, which I find to be less shockingly bright than red or blue numbers, and they are fully dimmable so I can keep them very low when I sleep and then turn them up to their brightest setting in the morning,” she says.

Unlike the other alarm clocks we recommend, this one uses two AAA batteries to store the time and settings on the clock in case of an outage, though you can’t power the clock on batteries alone. Like the Sharp, there’s a built-in USB-A port you can use to charge your phone overnight.  It only comes with one beeping alarm, while the other clocks we recommend have multiple, so you’ll have to be okay with the beeps it emits. Reid says it’s not horrible, but not particularly pleasant, either.

Best smart alarm clock

Loftie Clock

Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: Yes | Smart features: App-controlled, ambient noise, sunrise light, guided meditations | Sound options: 14

I ended up using the Loftie far longer than the allotted testing time, thanks to how successful it was at waking me up. It combines a classic, understated LCD alarm clock lozenge-shaped design with a subtle light that can simulate a sunrise to ease you into the day. The light glows just enough to grab your attention as you wake up; it’s gentle, and adds a warm touch to the room, both in sunrise mode and when turned on manually from the buttons on the top. Using the app, you can have it light up and play a nice tune to let you know it’s time to wind down and get ready for bed, and another when it’s time to actually get in bed.

The Loftie’s display shows both the current time and, in much smaller, dimmer numerals, the time of the next alarm. It’ll also tell you when Bluetooth (which you can use to stream stuff from your phone or tablet) is enabled. The display is smaller than on other alarm clocks like the Sharp and Hatch, but I still didn’t have any trouble seeing it from across the room while in bed. The top of the Loftie has four buttons: snooze, two arrow buttons for navigating the menu, and the main button for selection or play/pause.

There are 14 alarm sounds to choose from, including jungle animals chirping alongside a flute and gentle, repetitive strikes of a gong. If you have a Loftie+ membership ($5/month, with a trial month for free), you can also play relaxing music to fall asleep to, listen to guided meditations, and get horoscope readings. They’re all nice add-ons, and I did find they helped my anxious mind wind down before dozing off, but the Loftie has plenty to offer without the subscription. You also don’t need to pay the subscription to use the Loftie like a Bluetooth speaker to stream podcasts or playlists from your phone. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth setting disables itself after a period of inactivity, so you’ll have to turn it back on from the device whenever you want to use it.

The accompanying app is surprisingly feature-packed for an alarm-clock app. You can add multiple alarms, each with different sounds from Loftie’s library, and adjust the brightness of the clock’s bottom light via an adjustable slider. You can also choose from 14 alarm sounds, all of which have pleasant tones, though if you need a sharper, more attention-grabbing sound to get you out of bed, these options probably won’t work. The app also supports multiple clocks, so you can control several devices from one phone.

The company also sells a Wi-Fi connected lamp , which is my new favorite lamp after a week of testing. It pairs with the clock to coordinate wakeup routines, like dimming your light before bed or using a soft light to help wake you up. Every time it lit up along with my alarm, I felt like I was waking up in a room pulled straight out of the brightly colored yet softly lit future of Spike Jonze’s Her . At $250, it’s rather expensive, and you can only control it from within Loftie’s app, but the light does look great. Rather than using a bulb, the entire base of the lamp lights up, and you can set it to one of over 30 color options, including solid colors and gradients. All of the color options are relaxing, never too intense, and can work for anything from providing some light for reading or just helping you wake up in the morning.

The Loftie Clock, showing the time and emitting a yellow light from the bottom, as well as the Loftie Lamp, glowing with a blue-to-yellow gradient, atop the writer's wooden nightstand. There is also an iPhone, face-down, charging in front of the clock.

Best sunrise alarm clock

Hatch Restore 2 Sunrise Alarm Clock

While I like the Loftie’s design, the Hatch Restore 2 is the one I wanted to keep on my nightstand after I tested it. I prefer its more subtle look and I like its sunrise light more — though the Loftie Lamp gives that model an edge if you’re willing to splurge on it. The Restore 2’s light has a softer glow thanks to the fabric surrounding it and compared to the effect created by Loftie’s transparent casing. Unlike the Loftie’s single-color light, the Hatch has 18 possible colors, and they can all be changed from within the app. My room doesn’t get much light in the mornings, and the Hatch’s vibrant but not overbearing light serves as a gentle nudge to help wake me up.

Like the Loftie, the Restore 2 has 14 built-in alarm sounds to choose from; I prefer the soothing chords of “Joyful Morning.” You can even play white noise to fall asleep to. Unlike with the Loftie, some of these ambient tracks are available for free, though others are available only with a subscription ($5/month). That subscription also unlocks guided meditations and fun things like the series “i’ll scroll 4 u,” where a host narrates what they’re doing on their phone in every episode; it’s sort of like a podcast version of someone’s hushed internal monologue. In one episode they comment on the question prompts their Hinge suggestions have on their profiles, and in another the narrator talks us through their hunt for a new couch on Facebook Marketplace. On its own, the Restore 2 offers more than enough to help make sleep a little easier, but I’ll admit, I’ve enjoyed trying out some of Hatch’s subscription content, so it’s worth checking out at least for the free trial.

Atop the Restore 2 are two buttons: one for activating your morning routine, and one for your evening routine. The morning button is convex, while the evening button is concave, making it easy to distinguish them by feel alone. The buttons are easier to differentiate this way than on the Sharp, but the Loftie’s different-size buttons are even easier to tell apart. The front of the clock also has four touch controls, though there are no icons to show where they are: Tapping on the top or bottom of the display toggles the light’s brightness, while tapping the left or right side adjusts the volume of the speaker.

Strategist writer Arielle Avila has been using the Restore 2 for about four months, and says it’s totally replaced her phone as an alarm. “It’s the only thing that can get me fully up when it’s still dark out because of the sunrise option,” she says. “I set mine to gradually brighten 30 minutes prior to my actual alarm, which is a morning bird sound — it’s calming but really effective.”

Avila also notes that only one person can control the Restore 2, so setting multiple alarms for multiple people isn’t convenient. You can also mute the alarm using a switch on the side, but it’s not easy to flip when you’re half-awake, which may disturb your bedmate if they wake up later than you.

The Hatch Restore 2, displaying the time and lit-up in an orange glow, sitting atop the writer's wooden dresser. There is also an iPhone charging in front of the clock, and to the clock's left is a small clay vase.

Best smart display alarm clock

Google Nest Hub (2nd Generation)

Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: Yes | Smart features: App-controlled, ambient noise, third-party app integration, smart home controls | Sound options: 20

I used to watch TV before bed, but since removing mine from my room last year, I’ve started relying on a tablet version of Google’s Nest Hub as a mini-TV , and it works well as an alarm I can control completely hands free. The Nest Hub, which I’ve had in my home for over a year, has a large display — basically a tablet —that can show everything from the weather to whatever playlist you have on its built-in speaker. At night, the display will automatically dim when you’re going to bed. The Hub can run multiple timers, and even show two onscreen at the same time. It also makes a pretty great digital picture frame .

Google Assistant is built right into the Nest Hub, which means that in addition to controlling all your on-device timers, alarms, and Google queries, you can also sync it to third-party smart home gear and services like Spotify or Netflix (I have mine set up to control my home alarm system and robot vacuum ). All that’s done from Google’s Assistant app, but once you’ve done it for one Hub, it’ll be good to go with future devices as well.

Like nearly everything else you can do on the Nest Hub, you can set alarms with your voice, though you’ll have to use the touch screen to change the alarm wakeup sounds. There are 20 sounds to choose from, and they’re broken down into four categories (natural, light, medium, heavy), based on their tone and theme. They’re all nice to hear in the morning — I like the music-based ones — and I like that the options are broken down into their tones, rather than elements like the forest or ocean.

Since it’s meant to play music and videos too, the Nest Hub has a better speaker than the Loftie: It’s louder and clearer. You can sync it with your Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube Music account to stream your favorite playlists or albums directly from the display, or even have it play a YouTube or Netflix video before bed. It doesn’t work as a Bluetooth speaker like the Loftie, but since the streaming functionality is all built in and doesn’t shut down on its own, it’s far more convenient.

Best smart speaker alarm clock

Amazon Echo Dot with Clock (5th-generation)

Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: No | Multiple alarms: Yes | Smart features: App-controlled, ambient noise, guided meditations, third-party app integration, smart home controls | Sound options: 24

Of Amazon’s Alexa-integrated speakers, Amazon’s Echo Dot is my favorite. It’s small enough to fit on a nightstand without taking up a ton of space, and its smart-speaker capabilities are just as good as those on the Google Nest Hub. It also has an LED ring at the bottom that lights up when an alarm is going off, but the light itself is not as pleasant as the Hatch or Loftie. To turn the alarm off, you can say, “Alexa, stop” or tap the top, which is far easier than having to reach for a specific button, as you would with the Hatch and Loftie.

Like the Nest Hub, there’s a smart assistant built into the Echo Dot, though of course it’s Alexa instead of Google’s Assistant. You can connect it to just as many smart home devices and third-party services. Its display will only show the time (no indicators to tell you whether an alarm is active or not), but the numbers are easy to read. The sound is quite good for the speaker’s size (it’s about the size of a softball), and works for playing music, podcasts, and audiobooks, all without having to use your phone. It doesn’t produce sound with the same clarity as the Nest Hub, but it’s also significantly smaller.

The Echo Dot’s most frustrating issue is found within its alarm settings: There are ads and cross-promotions involved. In addition to standard alarm tones with nature sounds or chimes, there are branded ones like “Sharknado: Tara Reid” and “Blake Shelton: Day’s Work.” If that’s your jam, fine, but I’d imagine a lot of people wouldn’t enjoy waking up to Tara Reid shouting, “Get up now! There’s a Sharknado coming! Stay away from the windows and stick with me if you want to live, this is not my first time.” That said, the alarms that aren’t associated with a brand or celebrity sound pretty good and were on par with the alarms found in my iPhone’s Sleep section (and better than the standard alarms in the Clock app).

Best analog alarm clock

Braun BC22

Clock type: Analog | Adjustable brightness: No | Multiple alarms: No | Smart features: None | Sound options: 1

For those who prefer an analog clock, Braun’s can’t be beat. The BC22 is modeled on the brand’s discontinued AB 2, which was designed in 1984 by Dieter Rams. Rams’ clock designs are considered classics for a reason and have many fans.

Unlike every other clock we recommend, this one’s battery powered, though you’ll probably only have to replace it once per year at most. It only has one alarm and one alarm tone, which increases in volume until you shut it off. The quartz movement should be quiet enough that the ticking won’t keep you from dozing off.

You set the alarm manually on the back of the clock. On the right side of the Braun is a switch to disable the alarm. The clock’s face has a soft orange backlight that allows you to see it at night but won’t keep you awake, and the hands of the clock have illuminated tips for better visibility in the dark. Below the clock, there’s a green light that indicates when an alarm is active, which allows you to confirm at a glance whether you’ve set one or not.

Travel + Leisure / Kristin Kempa

Wrinkle-resistant clothing is ideal for making a travel experience easier and more streamlined. When your clothes don't crease, you can use compression organizers and ultimately pack more in your suitcase. And when it's time to get dressed, you won't need an iron or steamer.

The most low-maintenance pieces are made of at least somewhat stretchy fabrics with flexible weaves that hold their shape. This allows you to roll or fold your clothes and even wear some items multiple times without worrying about them looking, well… worn .

We've researched the best wrinkle-resistant clothing for travel, from versatile tops and bottoms to dresses, jumpsuits, and outerwear.

Best Button-down

Columbia women's boundless trek layering long sleeve shirt.

This stretchy, moisture-wicking, endlessly versatile button-down can be worn as-is, layered over another shirt, or used as a swimsuit cover-up.

It's technically a hiking shirt but can also work for travel days and most casual outings.

Columbia's Boundless Trek Shirt is the perfect button-down for travel — I was glad to have it with me on my last trip. It's made of a stretchy, wrinkle-resistant blend of polyester and elastane. Beyond that, the fabric draws sweat away from your body, repels stains, and even offers UPF 50 protection from the sun.

It's technically a hiking shirt, but I think it's ideal for travel days, sightseeing, shopping, and other casual outings as well. Thanks to the long length and relaxed fit, I was able to wear it both as-is and layer it over tanks and tees. You could even use it as a swimsuit cover-up. I also appreciate that there's a front chest pocket and a hidden internal pocket that fits an ID, credit card, or room key.

The Details: XS to 2X | Polyester, recycled nylon, elastane

Best Long-sleeve Shirt

Athleta ascent seamless top.

The Ascent Seamless Top is ultra-soft, lightweight, and breathable, with a close-to-body fit that makes it a great base layer.

It's 42 percent wool so it may be best for cooler temperatures.

Athleta's Ascent Seamless Top is just the thing for travel. This long-sleeve shirt is woven from a blend of nylon, merino wool, and spandex. The fabric is wrinkle-resistant, lightweight, and oh-so-soft, while the close-to-body fit makes for a great base layer.

Since the wool content adds warmth, it might be best for cooler weather — but merino wool is a temperature-regulating material , so you probably won't overheat. The mesh-like back panels and pointelle strip down the front offer breathability, too. Wool is also naturally antimicrobial, meaning it repels odor-causing bacteria.

The Details: XXS to XL | Nylon, merino wool, spandex

Best T-shirt

J.crew stretch linen-blend crewneck t-shirt.

This classic tee can be dressed up or down, worn as a base layer, and rocked with jeans, pleated shorts, athleisure wear — you name it.

It's a slim fit and runs slightly small, so consider ordering a size up.

Everyone's idea of the perfect T-shirt is different, but if you ask us, this one from J.Crew checks all the boxes. You get the lightweight, easy-breezy feel of linen (which, yes, is known for wrinkling) with the flexible crease resistance of polyester and elastane.

This crewneck tee can be worn with just about anything — we're talking jeans, trousers, shorts, or athleisure. You can rock the T-shirt on its own and dress it up or down by layering it under a flannel or blazer. Just a heads up, it runs a little small, and since it's a slim fit, you may want to order a size up from what you normally wear.

The Details: XXS to 3X | Linen, polyester, elastane

Best Versatile Top

Everlane the supima micro-rib scoop-neck tee.

The sleeve length, neckline, and silhouette make it easy to pair with laid-back, professional, and dressier attire.

Even though it's ribbed, the material is somewhat thin.

With elbow-length sleeves, a sophisticated scoop neck, and a slim (but not too tight) fit, this is the ideal in-between shirt for travel. The versatile design can be worn in transitional weather and dressed up with professional attire or down with jeans or linen shorts. You can also layer it under a blazer, cardigan, or button-down.

This shirt is primarily Supima cotton, a supremely breathable and naturally moisture-resistant fiber, with a small amount of elastane woven in for stretch and wrinkle resistance. Even though it's ribbed, the fabric is a bit thin. It's not sheer, though, and long-staple cotton like Supima is much more durable than regular cotton.

The Details: XS to 2X | Supima cotton, elastane

Best Blouse

Timeson chiffon v neck sleeveless blouse.

This crease-resistant, packable blouse works for professional ensembles and casual outfits alike.

It may arrive slightly wrinkled from the packaging but will relax after washing.

We're also big fans of this blouse. The fabric promises reliable wrinkle resistance, so you can fold it, roll it, or compress it into a packing cube without worrying about creases. It's also very accessibly priced and comes in nearly 30 colors and prints, ranging from neutrals to florals to bolder hues.

The sleeveless, slightly flowy design can be tucked into dress pants and layered under a blazer or cardigan. You could also wear it with jeans, either untucked or with a French tuck (just in the front).

The Details: S to 2X | Polyester

Best Sweater

Banana republic fern linen-blend raglan sweater.

Banana Republic

Banana Republic's low-maintenance yet luxurious Fern Sweater is breathable, lightweight, and packable with a modern silhouette.

The boxy cut may be hard to tuck into lower-rise pants.

Our favorite packable, low-maintenance travel sweater comes from Banana Republic. You'll get the lightweight breathability of linen, plus the wrinkle resistance of viscose rayon . The material is super soft and drapey with a luxurious feel.

This sweater has a classic crewneck, raglan-style shoulders, a relaxed fit, and a boxier cut. We love the modern silhouette, but bear in mind tucking it into low-rise pants might be tricky.

The Details: XXS to 2X | Linen, viscose rayon

Best Tank Top

L.l.bean women's bean's layering tank.

L.L.Bean

This tank makes an excellent undershirt or sleeveless top for warm weather, and you can count on the stretchy material to resist wrinkling in your suitcase.

It's on the longer side and falls past the hip.

This tank from L.L.Bean is the best of both worlds. It's 95 percent cotton, so you can bet it's breathable, moisture-wicking, soft, and gentle against the skin. Since cotton is known to wrinkle in the wash, the remaining 5 percent is spandex. The result? A stretchy sleeveless top you can roll as tightly as you want when packing your suitcase.

The cut is on the longer side for easy tucking and a little extra cover when wearing it with form-fitting bottoms, like yoga pants or bike shorts. Since this tank top is so reasonably priced, you might consider getting it in multiple colors.

The Details: XS to 3X | Cotton, spandex

Unbound Merino Travel Dress

It never needs ironing, repels funky smells, dries quickly, and can be worn in multiple seasons.

The brand suggests laying flat to dry rather than tossing it in the dryer.

Unbound Merino's aptly named Travel Dress is woven mostly from merino wool, with small amounts of nylon and spandex for durability, stretch, and extra wrinkle resistance that never needs ironing. I own one myself and can attest to these qualities. The sturdy yet soft and flexible material also repels odors and dries quickly.

Since it doesn't harbor funky smells, I've worn this dress multiple times while traveling without having to wash it — meaning I could pack fewer items. The sleeveless, midi style is great for warm locales, but you can also layer it under a sweater, blazer, or jean jacket.

The Details: XS to XL | Merino wool, nylon, spandex

Best T-shirt Dress

Cozy earth brushed bamboo midi dress.

This short-sleeve dress makes outfit planning easy while resisting creases and keeping you comfy all day.

The fabric is on the heavier side, but it's still plenty breathable.

I love traveling with this T-shirt dress from Cozy Earth. The short sleeves, crew neckline, and midi length are just right for casual outings, while the knee-high side slits give me a full range of movement. Plus, as a one-and-done ensemble, packing and outfit planning for trips are much easier.

This wrinkle-resistant dress is woven from bamboo-derived viscose, acrylic, and spandex. The fabric is on the heavier side, but I find this helps prevent creases. I also appreciate that it's totally opaque yet still plenty breathable.

The Details: XS to 3X | Bamboo viscose, acrylic, spandex

lululemon Utilitech Relaxed Mid-Rise Trouser 7/8 Length

With a jogger feel and a tailored-trouser look, these pants are incredibly stretchy and wrinkle-proof.

There are no belt loops, and the 7/8 cut is supposed to fall around the ankle but may be full-length for shorter people.

Lululemon's Utilitech Trousers are made of an exceptionally stretchy fabric that's not just resistant to creases but is actually entirely wrinkle-proof. But on account of the twill texture, pleats, back darts, and welt pockets, they look just like tailored dress pants to the untrained eye.

With a mid-rise waist, a slightly relaxed fit, and straight-meets-wide legs, these travel pants have a modern look without being too trendy. We also like that there's a hidden card slot in one of the front pockets.

The Details: 0 to 14 | Elastomultiester, cotton, elastane

Best Shorts

Spanx stretch twill shorts 6".

These pull-on shorts are super comfy yet functional, with pockets, belt loops, and a built-in tummy shaper.

The color may transfer onto lighter materials before the first wash.

These shorts from Spanx are a wise choice for travel. The fabric is more than 50 percent cotton for softness and breathability, while rayon, polyester, and elastane provide stretchiness and crease resistance. In true Spanx fashion, there's a built-in tummy shaper that helps smooth your midsection.

With no zippers or buttons, the pull-on style is convenient and incredibly comfy. Meanwhile, the belt loops and front and back pockets deliver functionality where you need it. The garment dye is supposed to fade over time for a worn-in look, but it might transfer onto other fabrics or materials before the first wash.

The Details: XS to 3X | Cotton, rayon, polyester, elastane

Reformation Maria Knit Skirt

Reformation

The Maria Knit Skirt is light, breathable, and stretchy, with an adjustable rise and a side slit for freedom of movement.

It's only available in black but is still notably versatile.

This skirt is made primarily of Tencel lyocell with a bit of spandex woven in. Sourced from wood pulp, lyocell is breathable, lightweight, and, most importantly, resistant to wrinkles. The jersey-knit fabric is soft, airy, and comfortable — everything you want in travel clothes.

Though it only comes in black, the Maria Skirt is undeniably versatile. The ultra-stretchy, tube-style design can be worn high-waisted, mid-rise, or low rise, giving you flexibility when curating outfits. We also like that there's a side slit to allow movement with the maxi length.

The Details: XS to XL | Tencel lyocell, spandex

Best Joggers

Vuori performance jogger.

These editor-approved pants are light, stretchy, crease-resistant, and remarkably comfortable.

It's an ankle-length cut and runs large, so think about ordering a size down.

When it comes to comfy clothes for travel days, padding around your rental, lounging on vacation, or even working out, Vuori's Performance Joggers are hard to beat. Made of the brand's DreamKnit fabric, these Travel + Leisure editor-tested and -approved pants are stretchy, lightweight, remarkably soft, and wildly comfortable. More to the point, the polyester-elastane blend is wrinkle-resistant.

These best-selling joggers are ankle-length, but there's also a full-length version . We should note that the relaxed fit runs a bit large, so think about ordering a size down from what you usually wear unless you prefer a slouchier look.

The Details: XS to 2X | Recycled polyester, elastane

Best Jumpsuit

Patagonia women's fleetwith jumpsuit.

Beyond being wrinkle-resistant, the Fleetwith Jumpsuit is quick-drying, moisture-wicking, and stretchy with five functional pockets.

A jumpsuit might not be ideal to wear on travel days.

We love jumpsuits for travel because they're a whole outfit in a single piece of clothing — except maybe on a plane when you want to be able to easily go to the bathroom. This one from Patagonia offers next-level convenience with a fabric that can be tightly rolled or compactly folded without sustaining creases.

The polyester-spandex blend is moisture-resistant and quick-drying, while the stretchy quality and side slits on the pant hems allow you to move freely. Other standout features include front and back pockets, a hidden zippered pocket, and a drawcord waist for an adjustable fit.

The Details: XXS to 2X | Polyester, spandex

Best Blazer

Quince stretch crepe open blazer.

Promising never to wrinkle while keeping odors at bay, this travel-friendly blazer can be worn with professional, dressy, and casual outfits.

Meant to be worn open, it doesn't button or clasp in the middle.

Blazers are great to have on trips, easily dressing up and adding warmth to any outfit. Plus, they're appropriate to wear both inside and outdoors. We're particularly fond of this one from Quince, which promises never to wrinkle while the antibacterial material keeps odors at bay.

The smooth fabric has a drapey quality that lends to a polished yet laid-back appearance. It's meant to be worn open so the shawl collar and pointed front hems fall just right. This blazer is versatile enough to wear with tailored pants, pleated shorts, jeans, or even athleisure wear — think yoga pants and chunky sneakers.

The Details: XS to XL | Polyester, recycled polyester

Best Jacket

Aday up in the air jacket.

This wrinkle-free jacket has eye-catching details while still being versatile, practical, and extremely comfortable.

Consider sizing up if you plan to layer it over more than a thin shirt.

Aday is a stellar place to shop for wrinkle-resistant, packable travel clothes. We can't get enough of the Up In The Air Jacket, a biker-inspired coat with a dramatically oversized collar, an asymmetrical front-zip closure, and a subtle sheen.

Crafted from recycled polyester and elastane, the scuba material is thick and sturdy yet lightweight and breathable. It's also resistant to pilling, sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and (notably) wrinkle-free.

The Details: XS to XL | Recycled polyester, elastane

Tips for Buying Wrinkle-resistant Clothing for Travel

Choose the right materials.

When buying wrinkle-resistant clothing for travel, pay close attention to the material makeup. The most crease-resistant fabrics are synthetic or semi-synthetic, like polyester, rayon, viscose, and Tencel lyocell. Stretchy fibers, such as spandex and elastane, can also help with smoothness and packability.

Cotton and linen tend to be the most wrinkle-prone, but these naturally breathable textiles can be blended with other fibers to make them wrinkle-resistant. Wool and cashmere can be good options, too, particularly in jersey fabrics or knitted weaves.

Do a test run before packing

A clothing item claiming to be wrinkle-resistant doesn't necessarily mean it's 100 percent wrinkle-proof — especially when compressed in a suitcase. With this in mind, we recommend doing a test run before your trip. Fold up each item ahead of time and leave it for at least a few hours to see how it looks onced unfolded.

Concerned about creases? Think about packing a travel steamer — or even just a wrinkle-release spray if you're short on suitcase space — just in case.

When it comes to preventing wrinkles, rolling your clothes might be best because it sidesteps any sharp bends that may result in creases. However, it depends on the garment and how tightly you roll it. For instance, a tightly rolled long-sleeve starchy shirt might unroll to reveal big creases, and a carefully folded knit sweater may do just fine placed on the uppermost layer of your main suitcase compartment.

It depends on the material and clothing item. But generally speaking, you can machine wash wrinkle-resistant clothes on a delicate or regular cycle with warm or cold water, then tumble dry them on low heat. To prevent pilling, shrinking, and misshaping the garment, you can also hang it or lay it flat to air dry. When in doubt, go with the brand's care instructions, which you can find on the tag or product webpage.
