Zakynthos island, known by many as Zante, is one of seven Ionian islands on the East coast of Greece. There are plenty of fantastic things to do in Zante.

Zante is well known to Europeans as a package holiday destination as well as one of the party capitals of Europe, with its famous Laganas strip and ‘White Party’. Zante also has beautiful beaches and scenery for a more laid-back trip and is one of the best islands in Greece for families .

The island also has some of the best beaches in Greece for families. Often missed off the traditional routes around the Greek islands of Mykonos, Santorini and Athens , the island is well worth a visit, and there’s plenty to do and see.

How to get to Zakynthos

How to get to zante by plane.

Zante has one main airport which serves flights from around Europe. Significantly more flights run in the summer months. It may be necessary to fly to Greece’s capital, Athens, and board a flight to Zante in the winter.

To get to Zante from outside of Europe, you will usually have to change at Athens International Airport too. It’s also an option to fly into Athens and board a ferry.

How to get to Zante by ferry (Athens to Zakynthos)

Ferries run from the mainland port of Kylinni to Zante. It’s best to hire a car in Athens and drive to Kylinni for this option.

he ferry is very comfortable, with indoor seating, toilet facilities and a bar. Check ferry prices and availability for your dates here.

Things to do in Zante Travel Guide

1. explore zakynthos town.

Top-quality restaurants , mesmerising churches and a beautiful seafront walkway , Zante town is becoming increasingly popular with visitors. As both the capital and commercial hub of the island, Zakynthos town is well worth a visit.

A visit to Zante town is best started in Saint Marcus square. Once the centre of social and political debating, the square is now home to excellent cafes and restaurants.

A seafront promenade is a great place for a walk. Stroll along the vast port promenade for 1.5km passing the monastery of Strofades and the church of Agios Nikolaos on the way. Both Saint Marcus Square and the promenade are a great way to take in the atmosphere of Zakynthos town.

2. Laganas – Things to do in Laganas

The busiest and most popular resort in Zakynthos, Laganas, is popular with families and young people. It’s an excellent resort to stay in as you explore Zakynthos, with plenty to see and do:

3. Experience a night out on the Laganas Strip

Laganas is one of the party capitals of Greece, famous for its strip of cheap bars and legendary clubs. The resort attracts millions of party-goers every year. Make sure you pay a visit to Zeros, one of Zante’s super-clubs, which hosts some of the main events on the island.

4. A day at the beach

Laganas beach is one of the best beaches in Zante and one of the longest too (9km). I’ve also chosen the beach as one of the best beaches in Greece for families. There are plenty of sun loungers to hire. Sit back and relax as you take in the crystal clear waters and the views out to sea.

If you return in the evening, there’s a long strip of restaurants at the back of the beach. There are PR’s outside each venue, so make sure you find the best deal before deciding! I recommend choosing a restaurant with live Greek dancing to get insight into the Greek culture.

5. A walk to Cameo Island

Well known as the wedding venue in Mamma Mia, Cameo is a small island attached to Zakynthos by a small bridge. Once on the island, you can relax on the beach with stunning views onto Laganas bay or sip a cold drink at the bar.

Entrance to Cameo island costs 5 Euro, with a free drink at the bar included in the price.

6. A boat trip to Marothinissi

Visible from Laganas beach, Marathonisi (Aka. Turtle island) is an uninhabited island just off the coast of Zakynthos. Marathonisi is part of a national marine park that aims to protect loggerhead turtles. Boat trips can be booked to view Marathonissi, and some turtles close up.

7. Tsilivi – Things to do in Tsilivi

Located on the North-East coast of Zakynthos, the resort of Tsilivi (also known as Planos ) is one of the best places to stay on the island. The resort is popular with those who prefer a quiet break but with many activities.

8. Explore Tsilivi Town

Tsilivi town is home to a wide range of souvenir shops and traditional tavernas and cuisine from all over the world. Take a slow walk through the town and take in the atmosphere.

9. Zante Waterpark. Tsilivi

A water paradise for kids and adults alike. There are so many slides to choose from. There’s something for all the family, from the black hole to the space and the younger kids’ octopus and pirate boat.

I first visited Tsilivi water-park in 2014 as a day trip from our base in Argassi. We returned to stay at the Aqua bay hotel inside the water park the following two years.

We also visited Zante’s other water park in 2014, and although it’s much bigger, the quality of Tsilivi water park is much better. The neighbouring Planos bay hotel also has free access to the water park.

Whether you decide to stay at the Aqua bay hotel or visit the water-park on a day trip, make sure you try the lazy river, my favourite part of the park!

I’ve visited with family previously, but I plan to return with my daughter in the future.

10. Try your hand at Greek dancing

Greek dancing is a very old and popular tradition throughout Greece. Each island and mainland area has it’s own interpretation. Why not spend the evening with Greek musicians playing traditional Greek music and Greek dancers. You’re welcome to join in and have a go.

Get your guide offers a ‘Dinner with Greek dancing tour’ where guests can enjoy  Enjoy a night of traditional Greek food, free-flowing wine, music, and dancing in an idyllic setting. Free-flowing wine and traditional Greek meal are included, along with return transfers to your hotel for 11PM. Click here to book tickets in advance.

11. Eat at a Traditional Taverna

Greece’s cuisine is famous throughout the world. Each island has its own dishes and interpretations. Take a look at this article by BBC good food explaining the must-eats in Zakynthos.

Once you’re familiar with what foods to try, it comes down to finding the best taverna to eat at.

The Greek dinner with dancing tour as above offers a three-course meal at a traditional taverna consisting of  ‘tzatziki (garlic, cucumber and yoghurt dip), spinach pies, cheese pies, stuffed vine leaves, sausage pies, and Greek salad. T

he main course will include a mix of pork souvlaki and roast chicken with oven potatoes or a vegetarian option of either stuffed tomatoes or spaghetti Neapolitan. For dessert, you can enjoy fruits of the season or a traditional Zakynthian sweet. Click here to book tickets in advance with get your guide .

If you want to explore Zante’s tavernas without a guide, then take a look at this guide , explaining the best tavernas in each area of Zakynthos.

12. Keri Caves

You can find Keri Caves, a paradise of crystal clear waters and caves just off the Keri Cape. You can swim through some of the caves and admire the reflections on the cave ceiling. Many divers visit the area as well as visitors on boat trips.

13. Blue Caves

You’ll find the blue caves below the lighthouse in Cape Skinari in the North of Zakynthos. The caves are one of Zante’s most popular attractions, with thousands of visitors travelling to the caves each year. The reflections turn the water an amazing shade of blue when inside the caves!

The best way to visit the blue caves is in a small boat, especially a glass-bottom boat. Bigger tour boats do visit the blue caves but they can’t enter inside.

underwater caves during daytime, things to do in zante with kids

14. Shipwreck Beach (Smugglers Cove)

Shipwreck Beach (Aka Navagio beach) is the most well-known shipwreck globally and not to mention one of the most well-known sights of the Greek islands and the most popular tourist trip in Zante. The beach became an impromptu ship graveyard when the MV Panayiotis washed up on its shores in October 1980. If you take a boat trip to Navagio beach, you can explore the rusty shipwreck of the Panayiotis, enjoy a walk on the white sand beach and swim in the clear blue waters. You can also view the shipwreck from the cliff above. Why not get that perfect Instagram shot?

15. Banana Beach

The longest beach in Zakynthos. The beach is very commercial, as with Laganas beach with an array of sunbeds and umbrellas to hire and scattered beach bars. Banana beach is famous for its huge array of watersports, including paragliding, banana boating, pedaloes and canoes. For more information on watersports at Banana beach, visit Banana Watersports.

To reach Banana Beach, it’s easier to drive. The beach offers free parking. However, if you don’t have access to a car, tour buses can take to Banana Beach in the morning and pick you up. Free coaches run from Zakynthos own and Argassi.

16. Argassi

A popular resort close to the capital, Zakynthos town, in the South-East region of the island. I stayed in the Katerina Palace hotel on my first visit to Zakynthos in 2014. The resort is an excellent place to base yourself if you don’t have access to a car. There’s a free bus to Banana beach and a regular tourist train to Zakynthos town. The resort is good for nightlife but not as wild as Laganas with a good selection of bars and restaurants.

17. Xigia Beach

A picturesque and pebbly beach on Zante’s North-West coast famous for its high sulfur content. The water has hidden qualities to relieve aches and pains.

18. Venture Inland

Away from the beaches and tourist resorts of the coastal areas of Zante, the centre of the island has a lot to offer too. The mountain villages of Kambi, Volimes and Anafonitria are almost untouched by tourism.

Many locals harvest grapes to make wine and olives for olive oil. Venture inland and see a huge range of vineyards and olive tree plantations. You’ll understand Zante’s real history and culture before tourism, that’s still thriving today.

19. Visit an Olive Oil Factory

The Aristeon olive oil factory is a family run business located in Lithkia and produces some of the best olive oils in Greece. The olive oil museum and factory is accessible to visitors all year round, portraying the process of olive oil making from the 18th century to today. You can even try the oil and the olives! If you like what you see, there’s a shop where you can stock up on supplies of olive products for your return home. For more information, visit the official website .

20. St Dennis Monastry

The St-Denis monastery or Monastery of Theotokos Anafonitria  is well worth a visit. You’ll find out more about religion and culture on the island. Heather on her travels has written an excellent blog post on visiting the monastery .

Day Trips from Zante

21. ancient olympia.

Olympia is located on the Greek mainland. Olympia is an extensive area of Greek ruins, including athletic training areas, a stadium and a temple. It’s possible to visit from Zakynthos for a long day.

You can also visit The Archaeological Museum of Olympia, where you will find a statue of Hermes attributed to the sculptor Praxiteles.

The town of Olympia is also worth a visit; wonderful for cut-price gold, leather goods, books and souvenirs. You can also visit the medals museum, which is dedicated to the 1986 Olympics held in Olympia.

To reach Olympia, you must catch a ferry from Zakynthos town to Kylinni port on the mainland. Olympia is a 50-minute drive from Kylinni.

Many tours leave Zakynthos to Olympia each day. This is by far the easiest way to visit Olympia from Zakynthos without the worry of missing connections. This tour takes you from Zakynthos to Olympia in a day. It’s also possible to visit by car if you use a car ferry to Kylinni and drive to Olympia.

22. A Day trip to Kefalonia from Zante

Kefalonia is also possible to visit from Zakynthos in a day. Ferries depart from Agios Nicholas in Skinar with ferries taking around one hour.

Make sure you pay a visit to Dragorati cave, where you can take a boat ride under stalagmites and stalactites. The cave was revealed in 1953 after an earthquake. Argostoli , the capital of Kefalonia, is also well worth a visit. The town is built on a hillside overlooking a marina.

To get an insight into local life, why not visit the fishing port of Agio Efimia. Don’t miss the perfect photo opportunity at Myrtos Bay!

I visited the beautiful towns and villages in Kefalonia on a day trip from Zakynthos in 2015. It was surprising how much of the island could be seen in a day.

Getting around Zante

By Car – Hiring a car is the easiest way to get around the Greek islands. Cars can be hired in Athens and driven around the islands by car ferry. Alternatively, you can hire a car at Zakynthos airport on arrival.

By public bus – Buses are a cheap way of getting around Zakynthos. Buses connect the main tourist resorts together rather than attractions. Although buses can be unreliable, they’re a good way from getting from A to B if you want to visit another resort.

By taxi – Taxi’s are easy to come by in Zakynthos. Any hotel will be happy to call one for you, and there’s a taxi rank at all major resorts and at the airport. Taxi transfers can also be booked in advance with Holiday Taxis. See the transfer prices for your dates here.

By Tour – Booking tours is one of the best ways to get around Zakynthos. Many include hotel pickups and a mixture of a bus tour, boat tour and experiences with local knowledge that’s hard to replicate on your own. Click here to view the tours available in Zakynthos. I recommend booking in advance.

  • joannehN3190OB 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles visit to cameo and keri island and caretta tour and caves we had the best day and would definitely recommend this company. we were picked up at our apartment and although they were ten mins late they were so apologetic.this was the only downside to the trip. Taxi driver was very informative about the trip and showed us Lagan's. He explained exactly what was going to happen. We first went to see the turtles and were really lucky as we were greeted by three of them. We then were taken to Cameo island.....absolutely beautiful. next we went to Keri where we we spent an hour, we had lunch from the snack bar....beautiful and good value. we then went to the caves where we were given another swim stop in crystal clear waters. we returned to the port where our taxi was waiting for us and dropped us back right outside our apartment. we will be using this company again next year for sure. captain was great too by the way Read more Written September 24, 2023
  • JohnRennie67 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Avoid this Excursion This experience was all about cramping as many tourists into vehicles as possible. We didn't get to see Shipwreck beach, we were told because of fires, but really it has been closed because of the cliff being dangerous for most of the summer. No trip to the Monestary and no communication. Avoid this excursion as it is not what is advertised. The drivers are the only ones that enjoy it as they get free food and kick backs on your purchases Read more Written August 31, 2023
  • Louise H 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Uninformative We were picked up by a 4x4. We were originally going to sit in the back seats which were very cramped and not really suitable for adults. Luckily we were sharing with a lovely couple of Dutch lads who swapped seats with us. Then stopped to pick up another couple. They then sat in the squashed seats at the back and the 2 Dutch lads and my husband sat together on the middle row. This was also quite squashed. My husband's seat belt mechanism wasn't working so was tied up with a cable tie! The car was described as fully air conditioned (the windows were down all the time so we didn't notice if the car was air conditioned or not. The driver was nice but didn't speak much English and only pointed to things he thought we would be interested in. Like cows or spiders nests or burnt fields. There was no trip to any monestary which was disappointing. We stopped shortly after pick up at a taverna but were not told why or anything about the village it was in. We even had to ask how long we were staying. The driver told us 30 minutes and went off with other drivers for a coffee. As we had just had breakfast, we decided not to get a drink so wandered around the village for 10 minutes. We then waited for the driver for 45 minutes. We then drove to the top of the mountain to get photos. This was very impressive. At 12 we stopped for lunch for about 45 minutes. This was ok but going to pay was a palava. Then we drove to a car park where the driver told us to get out but not why. We followed other tourists and found out that there was a viewpoint to see the famous shipwreck beach. There was a very long queue for photos. We waited about 20 minutes to get to the front. After this we drove to a beach which looked stunning from the top where the cafe was but walking down to it was concrete everywhere and concrete rubble. The beach was too small for the amount of people that were on it and smelled very strongly of eggs. We did get told it was sulphur but it was horrible and we didn't swim. The cafe sold us 2 cans of soft drink for 3 € each. Not even full size cans! The final stop was at a family run plive farm with a few animals. We were told to walk around and take photos. So we did. Then we sat down for a long time waiting to see what we thought was going to be a tour of the olive oil making process. Instead it was a sampling session of olive oil, wine and lotions. This was clearly a sales pitch and the products were very expensive. We did get to see the island but it wasn't the trip we had paid for. We didn't even know the name of the driver as he didn't introduce himself. I couldn't talk to my husband during the trip as I was in the front and he was behind me. The driver played his music continuously and so combined with the open windows made any talking difficult and the 4 Dutch people talked amongst themselves. In Dutch. Not my best experience as I had been looking forward to this. The driver didn't tell us where we were so we didn't know what to look out for. Very long day. Not worth the bother. • federicasQ3887PZ 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Small boat for 25 people, not safe! Awful! We went in a boat tour. The boat was too small for 25 people the driver was not serious at all and he give the control of the boat to a passenger! All the time a lot of water came into the boat and people get completely wet. I had to remain in underwear because my clothes were too wet, and it was an evening tour so we eventually got sick. This company is not serious you will be in danger whit them they are not respecting any security standard. They put a maximum of people inside small boats to get a maximum amount of income, offering the worst service possible. In the photo you can see the boat driver while chatting around whit a passenger driving the boat without any knowledge. Read more Written June 27, 2023
  • Iemilyb 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Safe drivers, great trips My dad and I booked a couple of trips with Smart Holidays while we were staying in Alykes. We did the 'Zakynthos town by night' and the boat trip to Marathonisi on our last day. The Zakynthos town trip was excellent, the drivers going and coming back were friendly and very knowledgeable, they gave us lots of information about the island as they drove us. We had 3 hours in the town and we really enjoyed going inside the beautiful churches of St Denis/St Nikolaos. They also drove us to a viewpoint so we could get night-time photos of the town. Pick up both ways was on time. The boat trip was also good, unfortunately we didn't see any turtles but it was likely the wrong time of year to see them. I will say 50 minutes on the island was a bit long as there was nothing to do (5 hour trip in total with no access to toilets) but again the driver was safe and I got some great photos of the Blue caves. • Judith G 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Poor Disappointed. Our 'tour guide' picked us up from our hotel in a 4x4. My partner was told to sit in the front with the driver, I was told to sit in the back with 2 other ladies. Very awkward, completely squashed in with complete strangers. 2 more ladies in the boot seats. The ladies were all dutch and conversed in their language obviously, so i was stuck crammed into the window, no conversation, couldnt speak to my partner as id have to have shouted and leaned across the ladies plus the driver had his music blaring from the speakers which were pretty much by my head which gave me a headache very quickly. We drove to a cafe and got told to get a coffee after a short drive, no explanation. Sat round for ages. Finally got going. The tour was average. Driver nice but didnt speak english so no actual tour guide. Waste of time going to the shipwreck as the queue is hours so why even take us there?? Beach OK. Farm ok. Long winded, uncomfortable, not worth the money. Read more Written October 3, 2022
  • Pappy_Gibbo130 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Good, inexpensive tours and hire company, definitely recommended Met Yiannis at the shop in Alykanas and he helped us to choose three trips, the round the island boat trip, the Greek evening meal and a night trip into Zante town. A wonderfully helpful man he supplied my wife with a mobility scooter as it was our last evening and her hired scooter had been collected earlier that day. The round the island trip was extremely good value with unforgettable sights, great food and drinks all reasonably priced served by a helpful and pleasant crew. The sunset supper was at a taverna high above the sea accompanied by a duo of musicians and a trio of dancers that had everyone on their feet and almost everyone dancing with them around the restaurant and the car park. Although the food was on the expensive side, I would really recommend this excursion, the views were breath taking. All of these excursions had transport provided in a clean mini bus with professional drivers from you hotel door. Definitely recommend SMART Holidays for booking you trips etc because they will go that extra mile to make sure your holiday is remembered for all the right reasons! We were then left by the port with no instructions on which boat we would be getting on or at what time. To this day I have no idea if we even got on the right boat because there was no one there to inform us. With its crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, delicious cuisine and stunning natural beauty, it attracts thousands of travellers every summer. Being an island, boat tours are one of the most popular things to do in Zante.

Should you do a boat tour in Zakynthos?

Absolutely! There are unique beaches to find and caves to discover, which are otherwise unreachable by land. You simply won’t be able to see some places without hopping on a boat and having an adventure.

I’d even go as far as to say that going on a boat tour is one of the best activities you can do in Zakynthos !

This article is all about the love of exploring by sea when you’re in Zante. Boat trips come in different shapes and sizes, and I’ve made sure to include some of the best ones in this post.

Best Zakynthos boat tours at a glance

Though there are a lot of different boat tours to choose from, in my opinion choosing from one of the private boat charters is the best way to truly appreciate the beauty of Zakynthos.

That’s because you’re in a small boat – and not completely crammed in with hundreds of other people (not fun) – plus you have more flexibility on the itinerary.

Porto Vromi: Cruise to Navagio, Turtle island & Keri Caves : This particular private cruise is a great example of how cool boat trips in Zante can be. It’s what I did with my group of friends and we loved it.

Leaving from Porto Vromi, this tour sees you exploring around the whole island, checking out Turtle Island, Keri Caves, and the famous Navagio Shipwreck Beach among other sights.

Along the way, you’ll also swing by hidden beaches and coves, which you can’t usually reach by land.

Zakynthos: Turtle Island and Caves Private Boat Trip :  This private boat trip has a focus on southern Zakynthos.

The main sights here are Turtle Island and Keri Caves, among others, but one of the coolest things is spotting loggerhead turtles that live in Laganas Bay.

You’ll have the use of snorkeling equipment to explore beneath the waves too!

Different types of Zante boat tours

Not every boat trip Zakynthos has to offer is the same.

In fact, there are a whole lot of different boat tours that you can join in Zante – some of them may be more your thing, while others may not be what you’re looking for.

Generally speaking, they can be divided into the area of the island that they explore (with differing itineraries between the regions), and the types of boats that go out (i.e. private vs. big boat tours).

Itinerary-wise, they can be separated into the following:

Half-day tours to North Zante

These go to Shipwreck Beach , Blue Caves , and some beaches in the north of the island, which you can usually only reach by sea.

Shipwreck Beach is particularly cool – it’s here that you’ll be able to see the rusting hulk of MV Panagiotis, a ship that ran aground in 1980 while (allegedly!) smuggling goods to Greece on behalf of the Italian mafia.

Whether that’s true or not, who knows, but it’s a dramatic sight and you can get some cool shots of the shipwreck against the white cliffs and bright blue sea.

The Blue Caves are also beautiful. Situated near the village of Volimes, they’re named because of the turquoise water reflecting on the white arches, giving the rocks a cool, eerie blue glow.

Half-day tours to South Zante

Boat trips in South Zante head to Turtle Island, Keri Caves , and some lovely beaches in the area.

Turtle Island, known in Greek as Marathonisi (fennel island; named because fennel grew wild here), is located in Laganas Bay.

South Zante boat tours swing by here, stopping at the main sandy beach, and the cave-like shore on the opposite side.

Keri Caves are fun! Here among the various arches and sea caves the boat will stop at little beaches or shallow areas for you to swim and snorkel.

This is where I’d say a private tour is best, as you can be a bit more flexible with where you get to stop (or not).

Full-day full-island tours

These comprehensive tours take in the whole of Zante, visiting all of the above.

While they are good if you’re short on time, and just want to hit up all the hot spots in one day, it’s not so good if you suffer from seasickness.

If that’s you, and you really don’t want to be at sea all day (and you’re in Zante long enough) then you could do two half-day trips on two separate days.

The other difference that you can choose between is the type of boat. Namely, these are:

Small private boat

Obviously, this is the more expensive option, but there are definite perks to this kind of Zakynthos boat tour. For a start, there’s more flexibility, as I’ve said before.

You can choose where you stop when you stop, and for how long.

It’s also great if you’re with your family or a group of friends, as you can hang out together, catch up, and chill, rather than getting overwhelmed by a boatload of people.

Exploring the Blue Caves of Zakynthos in Greece during our boat tour

Small group tours

These aren’t private tours, as you don’t hire the whole boat out, but since it’s a small group tour, it’s a bit more intimate.

It’s a good idea for solo travellers since you’ll be able to get to know your fellow passengers as you tour around. I’d also say it’s decent for couples as it’s a fun way to get around away from all the “romantic getaway” stuff.

Big boat tours

These Zante boat trips are exactly what you imagine. One big boat, crammed with loads of people, and very chaotic.

If you’re here with a friend or two, this might be a fun option, and it’s definitely the most budget-friendly option, but it’s a lot to deal with. Not great if you don’t like crowds.

Best Zakynthos boat tours

Porto Vromi: Cruise to Navagio, Turtle island & Keri Caves

As I already said, this private Zante boat cruise around the whole island is great. It’s by far the best option for a group of friends who can afford to spend a bit more.

Basically, you get to see the whole island at your own pace, telling the captain where you want to go, skipping some stops if you don’t like them, and spending more time at the beaches you like. It’s perfect!

Zakynthos: Turtle Island and Caves Private Boat Trip

You and a maximum of 5 other people can embark on this private boat trip to southern Zakynthos . Being a tour of the south of the island, you’ll hit up Turtle Island and Keri Caves, among other places.

The captain is great on this tour – he’ll make sure to explain about the marine reserve, the turtles, and the other stops you make along the way.

From Porto Vromi: Shipwreck Beach Private Boat Cruise

If you want to see the north of the island, i.e. the famous Shipwreck Beach and the majestic Blue Caves, this Zakynthos boat trip is a nice option.

It includes snorkel equipment in the price, so when you stop by the amazing glimmering coves along the way you’ll be able to explore the underwater world as well as the scenery above.

Porto Vromi: Navagio Shipwreck Beach & Blue Caves by Boat

Head to northern Zakynthos on a bigger boat as part of a shared tour. Leaving Porto Vromi, you’ll head to Shipwreck Beach to check out the remains of the MV Panagiotis.

This tour then includes 3 swimming stops, and the beach options on this particular Zante boat tour include the hidden beach of Sfogio and the stunning Porto Steniti beach.

It’s a pretty similar itinerary to the north Zakynthos private boat tour, with the difference that it will be in one of the bigger 50-passenger boats.

Zakynthos: Marathonisi and Cameo Islands & Keri Caves Tour

This shared group tour is a pretty good option. You’ll get to go to Turtle Island and Keri Cave, among other classic locations. Besides the boat trip, this tour will also take you to do a tasting of local products like olive oil!

It’s done with a glass-bottomed boat, which some people like, as it gives you the opportunity to see the seabed, marine life and the famous caretta caretta turtles.

Personally I don’t love it, as the glass bottom tends to get quite dirty, and it’s common for these tours to harass the sea turtles by cruising directly above them.

Zakynthos Island: Navagio Shipwreck Beach & Blue Caves Tour

I also recommend checking out a combination tour like this one.

The good thing about this particular Zante boat trip is that that, as well as travelling by sea on a 3-hour boat tour, you’ll also do some land travel by minibus.

That means you’ll be able to see the Navagio Beach from the clifftop viewpoint.

This is particularly good for those who don’t have long in Zakynthos, as it’s a pretty comprehensive tour and you see quite a lot in one day. On the other hand, expect big groups, a certain amount of chaos and a tight schedule!

Private Customizable Zakynthos Tour

If you want everything to be completely up to you, then take note of this combination boat trip .

Options include visiting a Venetian castle, Shipwreck Beach, charming villages, and a whole lot of beaches, including the intriguing Xigia Sulfur Beaches.

It’s a private tour that’s totally customisable and includes both a minibus and a boat. It’s not exactly cheap, but if it’s for a special occasion and you share the cost between a group of you, it works out pretty reasonable.

What to pack for your Zante boat trips

You don’t really need much besides your usual beach essentials to go on a boat trip in Zante, but I listed below a few essentials anyway, just to make sure you don’t forget.

Power bank – you don’t want your phone to run out of battery while you’re taking photos of the beautiful turquoise water of Zante!

Waterproof phone pouch – Boats usually have dry area, but it’s always a good idea to put your phone in a waterproof pouch, so that you can have it on your for photos, without risking it getting wet!

Fast-drying towel – These towels are great for boat trips since they take up little space and dry quickly.

Stainless steel water bottle – save money and reduce plastic consumption by bringing your own water bottle and refilling it.

Sunscreen – You’ll be out on the water and under the sun all day, you don’t want to ruin your trip by getting sunburnt.

Where to stay for your boat trip Zakynthos

Where you stay in Zante won’t really have much of an influence on your boat trip, as there are boat trips setting off from all the major ports around the island. Plus, many boat tours include also hotel transfers.

If you want to avoid having to travel around the island before embarking on your boat trip, you can stay in one of the major port towns like Laganas, Zakynthos Town or Keri.

Here are some great places too tay in Zakynthos for every budget.

Budget: Gerovasis Apartments with Sea View – This is where we stayed in Keri for five nights. This apartment spacious, clean, has epic views and for the amount of people it sleeps, it’s fairly cheap.

Click here to book your stay at Gerovasis Apartments with Sea View!

Mid-range: Joya Luxury Villas – Even though there is Luxury in the name, this beautiful villa is actually pretty affordable, while still offering a luxury service. It sleeps up to 10 people, has a private pool, and is perfectly positioned to explore the North East coast of Zante. We stayed here for the weekend and loved it.

Luxury: Lesante Cape Resort & Villas – We had lunch here and fell in love with the venue. This 5-star hotel has beautiful little villas with private pools, amazing service, stunning views and is in a great position. Perfect to spoil yourself!

Do you need travel insurance to join the boat trips in Zante?

After my personal experience spending two nights in a private hospital in Tenerife, and having to pay for it out of pocket (it wasn’t cheap), I always recommend getting travel insurance .

You might not end up needing it, but for a small fee you can travel without worries. Personally, I suggest getting your Greece travel insurance with  Heymondo .

Heymondo offers tailor made travel insurance, providing the best value for money for your specific trip. You can also buy it once you’re already abroad and have forgotten about it before flying (which, if you’re anything like me, is quite likely).

Besides the usual cancellation, medical expenses, luggage coverage and general travel insurance services, Heymondo also has a 24/7 doctor chat and instant assistance through their app.

As a Greta’s Travels reader, you get 5% off your Heymondo travel insurance !

Final thoughts on the best Zakynthos boat trips

There you have it, the ultimate guide about boat trips in Zakynthos, Greece! Have you been on a Zante boat tour? How did you find it? Let me know in the comments below!

It might not be as iconic as Santorini with its caldera boat tours , but I still loved visiting Zante, and especially discovering the island by boat.

Zakynthos may be a small island, but it’s blessed with beautiful scenery, incredibly clear blue water, white sand beaches and dramatic limestone cliffs. Seeing this unique landscape from the sea is a truly unique experience.

It might sound cliché and touristy, but doing a boat trip in Zante really is one of the best things to do on the island. Regardless of what type of boat or tour you choose!

Personally I loved doing a full-day full-island private tour, but I understand everyone has different priorities and budgets.

I hope you found my Zante boat trips guide useful, and that it will help you choose the perfect boat tour for your style! If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments below.

Turtle Cruise (glass bottom boat) & Sunset Tour (mini bus)

Cruise departure : 11.00am, Sunset tour departure : 18.00pm

A unique Land and Sea experience on South (Turtle cruise) and West (Sunset Instagram Tour) in Zakynthos.

Join this Combo (Land and Sea) Experience and feel your concerns soften away as you appreciate the stunning all encompassing perspectives on Zakynthos, also called Zante too!

The cruise begins in the morning around 11.00 am when you are picked up by mini-bus from your accomodation, to be brought toward the South of Zante. Upon appearance the unwinding starts as you board the journey in the beautiful harbor of Agios Sostis. As the boat leaves Agios Sostis harbor, passing the well known Cameo Island you will be amazed of the harbor horizon as well as the splendid turquoise waters of the Ionian sea.

The glass bottom boat sails towards the picturesque Marathonisi island , otherwise called Turtle Island, where the boat stops for photos and swimming for around 60 min while your guide clarifies about this astonishing white sandy sea shore and island, referred to for its significance as a settling territory of the Caretta loggerhead turtles.

During your time there, you will also be visiting the Turquoise caves where our captain will sail you inside to explore and capture this unique beauty.

After the cruise, you will be driven by mini-bus back to your accomodation or anywhere else from where you will picked up later (around 18:00pm) to your sunset area choice, either Keri, either Agalas, either Kampi or Shipwreck panoramic view point.

In the end you will be dropped off to hotel or airport if you are flying the same day.

Customer

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. Why Is the MLB Playing in South Korea Ahead of Opening Day? All About the MLB World Tour

Major League Baseball kicked off its regular season with the Seoul Series, a two-game set played by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres on March 20

Baseball season is in full swing (well, sort of).

Major League Baseball kicked off its regular season in South Korea with a game played by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres on March 20 ahead of the MLB's official Opening Day on March 28.

The two-day set played in Korea is part of the MLB's Seoul Series, marking one of the four international stops the league is making over the course of the season. Known as the MLB World Tour, the schedule also includes stops in Mexico City, London and the Dominican Republic.

Despite the two games being played overseas ahead of the official Opening Day in the United States, they do count towards both the Dodgers and Padres regular season record. However, upon the team's return, they each have two spring training games prior to Opening Day that don't count.

The MLB's regular season start in South Korea has unsurprisingly been a hot topic due to the schedule alone, but players have also topped headlines — with Shohei Ohtani specifically tied to a major controversy.

The former Los Angeles Angels superstar — who made his Dodgers debut in Korea after signing a  $700 million, 10-year contract with the team — is reportedly the victim of "massive theft" from his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara, who allegedly used his money for illegal gambling. Mizuhara was fired on March 20.

"The Dodgers are aware of media reports and are gathering information. The team can confirm that interpreter Ippei Mizuhara has been terminated. The team has no further comment at this time," a representative for the Dodgers said, per  MLB.com .

Read on to learn more about the MLB World Tour and 2024 Opening Day!

Why is the MLB playing in South Korea?

Mary DeCicco/MLB Photos via Getty

The MLB kicked off its regular season with the Seoul Series in South Korea on March 20, which saw the Dodgers win 5-2 over the Padres. The two-day set, played at the Gocheok SkyDome, wraps on March 21.

The Seoul Series marks the ninth time that the MLB season has opened outside the United States and Canada, and the first international host venue since Tokyo in 2019. The Seoul Series also marks the first MLB game played in South Korea.

The last international game played by the Dodgers was against the Padres in Mexico in 2018. The Seoul Series will also be the Los Angeles team's second Opening Day overseas after the 2014 season opener in Australia.

The Padres played internationally in 2023 during the Mexico City Series, so the Seoul Series marks their second straight season playing abroad. Like the Dodgers, the San Diego team played an Opening Day abroad — but in the inaugural international season opener in 1999.

What is the MLB World Tour?

Billie Weiss/Boston Red Sox/Getty

The MLB World Tour was created in an increased effort to bring the joy of baseball to fans across the globe. The first international Opening Game was held in 1999, played between the Colorado Rockies and the Padres in Monterrey, Mexico.

"Major League Baseball is incredibly excited for this extensive slate of international games in 2024," Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement . "Our recent efforts have produced strong enthusiasm around the globe, and we look forward to building on that foundation... We are thrilled that our fans across four different countries outside the United States and Canada will have the opportunity to see the game’s stars."

The four stops on the 2024 MLB World Tour include Seoul, Mexico City, London and the Dominican Republic. The first three cities will host an international regular season series, while the D.R. hosted a pair of spring training games on March 9 and March 10 in Santo Domingo.

“Players have a deep interest in growing baseball around the world. No matter where they come from, players are linked by a passion for our game that transcends different languages, cultures, and nationalities,” said Tony Clark , the executive director of the MLB Players Association. "We are excited to expand our international presence in new communities and celebrate the game we all love.”

When is MLB Opening Day?

Jim McIsaac/Getty

MLB Opening Day officially kicks off on Thursday, March 28, with games played by all 30 teams across the United States. Up first is the New York Mets against the Milwaukee Brewers who face off at 1:10 p.m. ET at Citi Field, New York.

Most of the games will be played in the afternoon, including Phillies-Braves, Dodgers-Cardinals and Astros-Yankees. The Texas Rangers will celebrate their 2023 World Series title before hosting the Chicago Cubs at 7:35 p.m. ET at Globe Life Field.

How to watch MLB Opening Day 2024?

Sarah Stier/Getty

MLB's Opening Night game will be broadcast on ESPN with MLB livestreams available. Plus, most will be viewable on the regional sports networks affiliated with each baseball club.

Jordan Spieth, Valspar Championship

The Tampa Bay area is no stranger to inclement weather, as harsh conditions continue to impact play at this week’s Valspar Championship .

Scores during the second round have ballooned thanks to the 30-mile-per-hour winds blowing across the golf course. Rain is also expected to impact play during the afternoon wave.

“Anything under today was a heck of a round,” said Lucas Glover , who carded a 2-under 69 on Friday morning.

“Anything around par today was a heck of a round.”

The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook hosts the Valspar Championship each year, and it routinely stumps the field thanks to its difficulty. Throw in severe weather, and the Valspar Championship now resembles major championship scoring.

“It’s such a chess game today, hole by hole,” added first-round leader Kevin Streelman, who shot a 1-over 72 on Friday.

Kevin Streelman, PGA Tour, Valspar Championship

“Definitely a grinding round... On courses like this and days like this, you’re not pumping it as hard as you can down the fairway. It’s more of missing it in the right spots a lot of times. It’s all about angles. It’s about not getting yourself into certain positions that are so difficult to be in.”

Streelman carded a brilliant 7-under 64 on Thursday, a round that featured seven birdies and zero bogies. He also led the field in strokes gained approaching the green during the first round, an essential attribute of this course.

The Copperhead Course, much like TPC Sawgrass , is a ball-strikers course.

But during Friday’s blustery second round, Streelman struggled to gain momentum. As of this writing, he shares the lead at 6-under with Chandler Phillips.

“I knew it would be a very challenging day, and it’s Friday, so I’m not really too worried about leaderboards anyway; really try to wait until Sunday afternoon,” the 45-year-old Streelman added.

“You just have to take what the course can give you. It’s not giving you much right now.”

Indeed, the course has not offered any reprieve for the players.

“Windy day. Pretty hard conditions. But I tried to be patient,” added K.H. Lee, who shot a 4-under 67 to shoot up to 4-under overall.

“I tried more to play smart, more center of green, and sometimes if I had a good number, I attacked the pin.”

Patience is another key to success at this golf course, often regarded as the most underrated on the PGA Tour.

Lucas Glover, PGA Tour, Valspar Championship

“I think this place, you understand that not all the holes are really attackable, especially on a day like today where it’s, let’s get in the fairway first, and then we’ll go from there, that type of thing,” Glover added.

“I did a nice job of that today. My only bogey was because I missed the fairway, and that’s what this place can do to you.”

Many notable players struggled on Friday, with no one more so than Kevin Kisner , who signed for a 4-over 75. He opened with a 9-over 80, and will thus miss the cut.

So, too, will young Aussie Min Woo Lee , who also shot a 4-over 75 on Friday.

But Jordan Spieth , who missed the cut last week at The Players , is in danger of missing the weekend once more. He shot a 3-over 74 Friday and is currently 1-over for the championship.

Spieth is currently on the outside looking in, but that could change as the wind continues to blow across the golf course Friday. And yet, it does not appear the blustery conditions will subside anytime soon, so who knows how the second round will play out.
