great day trip from Miami

My husband and I drove from Miami with our 1 year old and we had a great time. My husband and I enjoyed it more than most zoos we've been to. I stopped to let an ostrich cross the road, and instead, it leaned onto my hood and started pecking at the little black peg on the hood that shoots out windshield wiper fluid. After it pecked about five times, I turned on the windshield wipers and it pecked one of those too. I ended up having to reverse, and drive around it. For us, that was pretty awesome--that's never happened at the zoo, but I will say that I broke out in a light sweat. Unlimited returns through the preserve, plus a small water park that struck us as fresh and clean -- AND, you can pack a cooler/take your own beverages inside-- made it a great day trip for us and a great value. After visiting Lion Country, we don't think we'll ever waste our money on Metrozoo again.

While talking about my upcoming vacation in Florida with coworkers, I was told about Lion Country Safari in Loxahatchee. My husband and I had visited the drive through safari at Six Flags in NJ a few years ago and loved it, so we added Lion Country Safari to our itinerary. We are so glad that we did! As previous people have said, there are actually 2 parts to this park - a drive through portion and a petting zoo/picnic/ride area. We arrived later in the day (about 4:15). The gates close at 4:30 and the park closes at 5:30. Here's a great tip for people only interested in the drive through safari: after 4pm, tickets are 50% off! If you are only interested in the driving portion, which takes about an hour, this is perfect! They figure that you'd only be able to spend time in one part of the park, so they don't charge full price. They also give you a cd to use as you drive through, which we loved. It was very informative and easy to follow along. The place is clean, the animals look very well cared for, and it was so much fun. They all roam wherever they want. We definately recommend this place for couples and families. So much fun!

miami lion country safari

We had a great day at Lion Country Safari. Our kids (three and six) were thrilled to see the animals, and I must say, they have an impressive collection: rhinos, huge African elephants, water buffalo, ostriches, zebra, many different types of gazelle and antelope -plus, of course, lions. From what I could tell, the animals were well cared for - certainly they must be happier than in zoos, where they are caged. According to the material provided, Lion Country Safari plays an important role in breeding and preserving several endangered species. Unlike a lot of South Florida attractions, where they squeeze every dime out of you, Lion Country Safari really gives you your money's worth. It costs about $20 per person to get in, but the parking is free, and once you've done driving through to see the animals, there's quite an extensive amusement park with a water play area, paddle boats, a ferris wheel, a petting zoo, and all kinds of other stuff. You can really spend the whole day there. And all of this is included in the admission price. The place is also refreshingly free of corporate sponsorship. The only thing I might have liked is additional informational material in the gift shop or on the tour. Since they study the animals there, I think they could provide a bit more educational content on endangered species, animal habitats, breeding etc. for those who are interested. That's a small quibble, though. We had a great time and it's definitely worth the trip for anyone visiting the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area.

miami lion country safari

We took our two children (9 and 12) to the park and had a great time. With a coupon from one of the brochures, or a AAA card, you can save about $2 per person. For a family of 4, it costs about $80, which was a bargain, as we explain below. Lion Country Safari is two attractions in one. The first part is a drive-through zoo, which we could go through in about 90 minutes. They provide a CD to play over the car stereo, which was informative. Our children delighted in taking pictures, although it was hard to see the lions. The lions were in an enclosure and seemed to be sleeping. It looked like, from all the precautions, that lions roaming wild had been a problem in the past, so we weren't heartbroken about missing the lions. The second part is an amusement part with a petting zoo, rides, animal feeding (including feeding giraffes, which was a blast), a wet play zone, small animal shows (where trainers came out and answered questions from the audience), paddle boats and a pontoon boat ride. We allowed 4 hours, but could not see it all. You can drive back through the animal reserve as much as you want for free. The souvenirs and food were relatively cheap for such a park, there was even a gift shop with everything under $5.00. There is even a picnic area if you want to eat your own food. Parking in the park was free. This is a charming old-Florida attraction, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It is not up to the standards of, say, Disney World, but we got out of there with some food and souvenirs for a little over $100.00. Try that at a Disney park.

This place is great. My sons are 7 & 9 and we had a great day there. The lions were sleeping but there are plenty of others to see during the driving part. The best part of the day was visiting the giraffes in the walking part. You walk up to the giraffe's face level, buy a cracker for $2 and the giraffes eat them right out of your hands. This was amazing!!!! I've never seen that anywhere. The monkeys are fun. There is a splash area so if its hot, bring suits for the kids. Unlike many attractions, this one did not seem to try to rip you off while you were in there. Food and water was reasonably priced as were souveniers. It is a great day trip from anywhere in South Florida

We went in August of 07 with a 2.5 year old and 10 month old. Under 3 was free so the price was right. The Safari was like other drive through safaris I have been on. The kids liked it (including the baby.) The park was good too. There were rides that even the baby could go on like the merry go round and elephant ride. The sprinkler area was a great refresher on a hot day for the kids. Then we got to go up close to the giraffe which the kids also loved. It was really enjoyable and not too long for a hot hot day. We spent about 4.5 hours there (including the safari). It was easy to navigate around and do everything. The park has a layout that you don't miss anything. It was a lot of fun and highly recommended for people with little kids.

Lion Country Safari: What to Do, What to See for Your Safari Experience

by floridaculture | Sep 26, 2022 | Things to do in Palm Beach |

miami lion country safari

Lion Country Safari in Florida’s Palm Beach area gives you a safari experience without the price of a plane ticket to Africa. This drive-thru safari park began in 1967 with several free-roaming lions and other animals. Nowadays, there are nearly 1,000 animals on site that roam among the preserve’s 320 acres.

Just what can you expect if you visit Lion Country Safari? Are you really going to get up close with some of the animals there? Here’s the scoop on what to expect, the cost to visit Lion Country Safari, and some tips for your visit.

miami lion country safari

What to Expect When You Visit Lion Country Safari

Lion Country Safari is a bit off the beaten path in Palm Beach County. In other words, rhinos and giraffes are not crossing your path while you’re shopping for Louis Vuitton bags in downtown West Palm Beach. Expect to drive about a half hour along 98 from downtown West Palm to get to Lion Country Safari, which is in the town of Loxachatchee. It’s about an hour from Miami.

Lion Country Safari tickets run about $41 per adult and $31 per child. Prices may fluctuate, and you may be able to find discounts for tickets online. Everyone must get a ticket except those age 3 and under. You can buy tickets online or at the gate.

When you enter the park, you can go to the drive-through safari area or the Safari World Adventure Park , which includes lots of kid-friendly activities. From a water playground (bring a bathing suit and sunscreen) to mini golf and a petting zoo, there’s plenty to entertain the kiddos at the Adventure Park. There are also ways to interact with other animals, including giraffes. The park also has a couple of places to eat. Although we didn’t make it to Safari World during our visit, it looks like a fun place for kids. We’ll focus on the safari portion of the park here.

The park also has premium experiences, such as a VIP guided tour . Advanced registration is required.

miami lion country safari

When preparing to enter the park, you’ll be reminded to keep your car doors and windows closed. This is for the animals’ safety and your own. You can also rent a vehicle from Lion Country Safari for $25 for 1 1/2 hours.

For all the reasons you can imagine, your pets also are not allowed on the drive-through safari. Lion Country Safari has kennels available for $5.

When you enter the park, you’ll be given a brochure and directed to a QR code that provides a link to an audio narration of your safari. You can also find a link to the audio tour here , both in English and Spanish. It’s a little over an hour long and follows the different reserves you’ll drive through (we name them below). It’s a lot of facts, but the narration and the map help you better appreciate what you’re seeing. Remember that the audio tour will use your cell phone data.

Here’s a video from Tom’s Road Trippin on YouTube that gives you a better idea of what to expect during a visit to Lion Country Safari and the Adventure Park. Here’s another video from Kayak7seas .

miami lion country safari

In the Safari at Lion Country Safari

The four-mile safari features acres upon acres of flat land where the many animals can roam. You drive through the park going through seven different areas (listed below in the order you encounter them….we also list some of the animals you’ll find in each area):

— Las Pampas, modeled after the area of the same name in Argentina. Find alpaca, brown pelicans, and marabou storks

— Buaha National Park from Africa, featuring ostriches and impalas

— Kalahari Bushveldt from southwest Africa, which includes ostriches, gemsbok (a type of antelope), and bongos (another type of antelope)

— Gorongosa Reserve, home to beautiful African lions

— Gir Forest, named for a national park in Gujarat, India. Find Asiatic water buffalo, scimitar-horned oryxes (they have very cool, long horns) and another type of antelope called nilgais

— Serengeti Plains, featuring wildebeests, watusi, and impalas

— Hwange National Park, named for the largest game reserve in western Zimbabwe and including some of better-known, beloved animals, like giraffes, Southern white rhinos, zebras, chimps, and giraffes.

Just how close do you get to the animals? It depends, but you can get pretty darn close. The animals seem pretty oblivious to the cars driving through but some of the more curious ones, like ostriches, will come up near the car. We had dozens and dozens of impalas crossing and walking ahead of our driving path (talk about a traffic jam). Because it’s the animals running the show, it all hinges on how close they feel like getting.

miami lion country safari

There are a couple of exceptions to this, including the chimps. The lions are behind protective, tall metal fences, and we noticed a couple of Lion Country Safari trucks nearby with staff. “They probably have tranquilizer darts,” someone said. “For the lions or the people?” we asked. Because after all, we are in Florida, where the people can be as unpredictable as the animals.

Seriously though, obey the rules and stay in your car. It may be hard to get a good lion shot with the protection there but you can get many other good animal shots.

miami lion country safari

You can take your time going through each protected area, even if the safari area is busy. That’s because there are many pull-off areas. So, if you want to stay and watch a certain group of animals and let some traffic go by, you can do so. Feel free to take your time, and remember that you can drive through the safari as much as you’d like on the day you buy your ticket.

If you’re in a bit of a rush, some of the areas, including Gorongosa Preserve (for the lions) have cut-through areas so you can skip them. Even if you’re doing this, just watch the speed limit signs as the animals have the right of way.

miami lion country safari

The park was an enjoyable visit on a sunny day. If you’re a photographer, bring your fancy camera or use your good phone camera. Some highlights included the curious and playful ostriches (at another safari park, we had ostriches chasing after our tram and then posing for us), the impalas crossing the road in droves, and the rhinos that were just eating and playing in the mud and grass. The zebras were pretty cool, too.

Going through the safari took about an hour and a half. If you add a visit to the Adventure Park, you definitely have a busy half-day visit or may be a full day if you stretch it out.

6 Tips for a Visit to Lion Country Safari

  • Plan to visit when it’s raining or early on a sunny day. Surprisingly, the park itself recommends visiting on a rainy day as that’s when the animals are at their most active. If that doesn’t work, then early on a sunny day is their next recommendation (and ours). The park opens at 10 am on weekdays and 9:30 am on weekends. It’s open until 5 pm on weekdays and 5:30 pm on weekends.
  • Consider staying at the adjacent KOA. Lion Country Safari KOA is adjacent to the park, and here’s the cool thing we’ve read: If you’re staying there, you can hear the lions roar. Otherwise, hotels are closer to West Palm.
  • Watch out for other photo opps. The massive, open nature area that is Lion Country Safari naturally attracts other animals, so you may find other photo opps. For instance, we saw a heron snapping up and eating what we think was an eel or snake. It was a cool shot we could have missed had we not been paying attention.
  • Use the map and audio narration to help you get to know the animals better.
  • Drive slow and make use of those pull-off areas. Stay off your phone (unless you’re getting pictures with it) and look around.
  • Remember that these are wild animals. The animals are part of a conservation effort, and they rule the roost, so to speak. Let them stay wild, and everyone will have fun and get along.

Lion Country Safari Entrance

Lion Country Safari is about driving through the plains along zebras, rhinos and giraffes... as curious ostriches come for a closer look and tap your windshield... herds of eland, blackbucks, buffalos, wildebeest... ok, so it's not the great migration, but really, there are herds of animals here, not the lone lion here and there, we are talking a whole pride of lions roaming the "reserve"... a crash of rhinos... plenty of giraffes... and you get to drive through in the comfort of your own car!

Lion Country has long been one of our favorite parks to spend the day, definitely worth the drive to West Palm Beach from Miami.

There are two parts to the park and when visiting, both are a must

  • The Safari World Amusement Park Section

You need at least 5-6 hours to take advantage of what the park offers, and can easily make it a full-day affair, which is what we normally do.

So let's take you on Safari and show you around!

Safari on Wheels: The Drive-Through Safari

Drive Through Safari at Lion Country Safari Park

This section of the park is the "Drive-Through" section, where the animals roam in their respective wildlife areas or preserves which are clearly fenced off and separated from each other.

At the entrance you will be given a CD recording with all the information about the animals and habitats in the order you will see them, you can play and pause as you go along.

You drive through on a 4-mile loop, passing through all the areas . This section can take anywhere from one hour to two and a half hours, depending on how long and how many stops you make.

The areas are representative of wildlife reserves around the world, Las Pampas in South America, the Indian Gir Forest, and of course, many of the well-known reserves in Africa.

This is a one-way road, so no chance of getting "lost", just follow along...

The animals are obviously used to seeing cars drive-by, that said, these are wild animals, this is their home , and they definitely have the right of way, so give them a wide berth...

Lion Country Safari Zebra Crossing the Road

The animals can be so close, you really can get a good look, no cages or fences... no binoculars or photo lenses needed...

Lion Country Safari welcomes baby white rhino

Orion is a significant addition to the park’s rhino herd. (Courtesy: Lion Country Safari)

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — Lion Country Safari has announced a new member of the family after a southern white rhinoceros gave birth to a male calf. Stated in a press release by the safari staff on Tuesday, a newborn calf named Orion is a “significant addition to the park’s rhino herd.”

According to the park, the safari has played a key role in the conservation of the southern white rhinoceros and the calf has contributed to the White Rhinoceros Species Survival Plan, a national collaboration to save the species from extinction.

The species was on the brink of extinction in the 1970s, with less than 1,000 left on the planet, but now, the efforts in keeping these creatures alive has contributed to a rise of approximately 20,000 white rhinos in the world.

“Rhino mothers give birth to a single calf weighing between 88 and 132 pounds,” read the release. “The calf is expected to gain 3-4 pounds a day from his mother’s milk and will gain about 1,000 pounds a year for the first three years. Baby rhinos nurse for almost two years.”

Visitors who would like to see Orion and his mother, Bloom, spending quality time together as they bond, the pair will be in a maternity area in the park’s Hwange National Park section.

The white rhino is the most numerous of all five species of rhinos, which are all in peril due mostly to poaching.

Lion Country Safari, located in West Palm Beach, has one of the largest rhino herds in the country.

Lion Country Safari welcomes birth of white rhinoceros

By John MacLauchlan

Updated on: March 12, 2024 / 11:41 AM EDT / CBS Miami

FORT LAUDERDALE - It's a boy.

A male southern white rhinoceros calf was born at Lion Country Safari on March 3rd.

The calf, named Orion, is a significant addition to the park's rhino herd, one of the largest in the country, and to rhinoceros conservation.

rhino-2.jpg

Both Orion and his mom, Bloom, are spending bonding time in the West Palm Beach safari park maternity area.

Rhino calves typically tip the scales at 88 to 132 pounds. They can gain 3-4 pounds a day from their mother's milk and will gain about 1,000 pounds a year for the first three years. Rhino calves nurse for almost two years.

"Lion Country Safari has played a key role in southern white rhinoceros conservation for many years and the calf is a significant contribution to the White Rhinoceros Species Survival Plan, a national collaboration to save the imperiled species from extinction," according to a statement from the park.

This species was teetering on the edge of extinction in the 1970s due to poaching, with less than 1,000 rhinos left on the planet. Thanks to multi-national collaborative breeding and protection efforts, today there are an estimated 20,000 white rhinos and each new birth contributes to their continued conservation.

Lion Country Safari announces birth of baby southern white rhinoceros named Orion

miami lion country safari

LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. — Lion Country Safari on Tuesday announced the birth of another southern white rhinoceros calf to its herd.

Officials at the animal preserve, located west of Loxahatchee Groves, said a male southern white rhinoceros calf was born on March 3.

Both the calf, named Orion, and his mother, Bloom, are currently bonding in a maternity area. They will be visible to guests from their cars in the Hwange National Park section of the safari.

Lion Country Safari welcomed a male southern white rhinoceros calf, named Orion, on March 3, 2024.

Officials said the calf is expected to gain 3-4 pounds a day from his mother's milk and will gain about 1,000 pounds a year for the first three years. Baby rhinos nurse for almost two years.

Lion Country Safari also welcomed other baby southern white rhinos recently with the births of Ruby in 2022 and Alissa in 2023.

Officials at the park said that of the five species of rhinos — white, black, Indian, Sumatran and Javan — the white rhino is the most numerous. All five species are in peril due mostly to poaching.

What are the odds that on a weekend devoted to high-volume St. Patrick’s Day revelry and dancing a jig, I require something quieter and more communal. We might call it a date night, but it also needs to feel sacrificial, with an “I’m sorry” vibe. (The details are not important, but I am in the wrong. I’ve been told.)

If you are similarly unlucky in the love department just now, well, these are your lucky days. Amid all the spilling of green beer this weekend, there happen to be plenty of statement-making outings that may help set things right with your partner. Here are a few ideas …

Wearin’ o’ the rouge: A sexy and exuberant nationally touring production of “ Moulin Rouge! The Musical ” opened to raves this week at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale,  a review in the South Florida Sun Sentinel calling it “an eye-popping original” with “spectacle at every turn.” Let’s call this potential Date Night No. 1. Performances continue at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $45+ at BrowardCenter.org .

Keep on burnin’: At the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach through Sunday, “ Tina — The Tina Turner Musical ” (Date Night No. 2) is a jukebox retrospective of the life of the dynamic singer, part of rock ‘n’ roll royalty, who died in May. A cautionary tale, to be sure, but there is no denying the joyous “River Deep, Mountain High,” “Let’s Stay Together” and “Proud Mary.” Performances continue at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Remaining tickets start at $74+ at Kravis.org .

Scene from the national tour of "Hamilton," with performances at the Arsht Center in Miami through March 24. (Joan Marcus/Courtesy)

Take your shot: “ Hamilton ” (Date Night No. 3) is back in Miami and the Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House is the room where it happens. Wildly entertaining and compellingly relevant, the show has performances at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1 and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $49+ at ArshtCenter.org .

Dinner date: At TRP Taste , the intimate 26-seat venue in downtown Fort Lauderdale , executive chef Lyndsey Waters will host a series of interactive pairing dinners called Hecho en Mexico & Patron Tequila (Date Night No. 4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and March 28-30. Each course (they include Octopus & Mole and Seared Grouper) is paired with a Patron cocktail and prepared in view of the guests by the engaging Waters, who will encourage questions and conversation. The price for five-course dinners on Fridays and Saturdays cost $105+. A four-course dinner will be served on Thursday, March 28, and costs $85+, Visit Facebook.com/TRPtaste .

TRP Taste in Fort Lauderdale from The Restaurant People is more culinary theater than traditional restaurant, with one-off themed popup dinners and meals from visiting chefs.- Original Credit: Courtesy/TRP Taste - Original Source: SouthFlorida.com

Step dancing in the street: The thing we like about the annual Irish Fest at O’Shea’s Irish Pub in downtown West Palm Beach is that there is no pretense of a parade. They close down the 500 block of Clematis not for floats and marching, but for beer trucks and celebratory carousing. Events warm up on Friday night at O’Shea’s, leading into the two-day, all-day block party on Saturday and Sunday with Irish bands, step dancers, vendors, food and drink, games and kids’ activities. Visit Facebook.com/osheaspubwpb .

Mavericks return: The Mavericks (Date Night No. 5) came up in the Miami rock scene before venturing into country and Latin music. Their sound has matured into one of the most lively and enjoyable shows I’ve witnessed in the last couple of years. Good times guaranteed. Led by the mellifluous Raul Malo , the Mavericks perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Arsht Center , perhaps sharing some of their new album , “ Moon & Stars ,” set for release on May 17. Tickets start at $45+ at ArshtCenter.org . For more on the band, visit TheMavericksBand.com .

Laughs with friends: New York comedian, podcaster and actor Andrew Schulz will bring The Life Tour to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood for shows at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets start at $49.50+. Visit MyHRL.com . Meanwhile, Schulz’s friend Akaash Singh (they created the podcast “ Flagrant ” together) is at the Dania Improv in Dania Beach on Saturday at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets start at $30+. Visit DaniaImprov.com .

Ticket window: Weezer, Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. will perform at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood on Saturday, Sept. 21. Tickets, starting at $65+, are on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at MyHRL.com . … ICYMI, tickets are on sale Friday for Blake Shelton at Hard Rock Live on Saturday, July 27 (visit MyHRL.com ), and Sting at The Fillmore Miami Beach on Sunday, Oct. 20 ( visit Sting.com ) .

Shamrocking Delray: The massive Delray Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival takes place on Saturday, with floats and firefighters moving along Atlantic Avenue from noon to 2 p.m., and the festival on Old School Square from 1 to 5 p.m. Highlight: New York-based Irish rockers The Prodigals are an impressive get for Delray as festival headliners. Visit StPatsDelray.com .

Burgers and wine: We probably don’t need to explain the clandestine appeal of the patio at the historic Progresso Plaza building, just north of downtown Fort Lauderdale . And within that fashionable triangle, you’ll find a small storefront aglow with warm lights and, invariably, a cool crowd. That is the organic wine hangout known as Sidewalk Bottle Shop . On Saturday at 6 p.m. (Date Night No. 6), they’ll be hosting smash-burger pop-up Cowy Burger , winner of the Very Best Burger Award during Burger Bash at the 2024 South Beach Wine and Food Festival . Visit Instagram.com/sidewalk.bottleshop .

Kelley green: The Fort Lauderdale St. Patrick’s Parade & Festival returns on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the parade beginning at noon at Huizenga Park and taking a new route east on Las Olas Boulevard to Southeast Ninth Avenue. Highlights: The festival will take place on Tunnel Top Plaza , the first formal test drive for the much-discussed public space on Las Olas. Also, the grand marshal of the parade is Kelley Shanley , recently retired president and CEO of the Broward Center, and one of the good guys. Visit Parks.FortLauderdale.gov .

Take the kids: Lion Country Safari in Loxahatchee has a new baby southern white rhinoceros on view this weekend. The male calf, named Orion , was born on March 3. He and mother Bloom are in a maternity area that will be visible to guests from their cars in the Hwange National Park section of the property. The nearly 600-acre Lion Country Safari is part of the White Rhinoceros Species Survival Plan , a national effort to save the imperiled species. On the edge of extinction 50 years ago, with less than 1,000 left on the planet, white rhinos now number more than 20,000. Lion Country Safari is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (last vehicle entry at 4:30 p.m.). Tickets cost $49+ per person, ages 3-9 $37+, 2 and younger free. Visit LionCountrySafari.com .

Orchestral maneuvers: Michael Tilson Thomas , renowned artistic director laureate at New World Symphony , makes a rare return to the NWS podium on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Miami’s Arsht Center (Date Night No. 7) to conduct the company he founded. Accompanied by bass-baritone Dashon Burton , of the Grammy-winning vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth, the orchestra will perform MTT’s jazzy “Agnegram,” Copland’s “Old American Songs” and Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 4.” Tickets start at $55+ at NWS.edu .

Buena vista: Legendary Cuban singer and guitarist Eliades Ochoa , best known for his time with the famed Buena Vista Social Club, brings irresistible rhythms to the beautiful Miami Beach Bandshell (Date Night No. 8) at 8 p.m. Saturday. As a meeting of artist and atmosphere, this evening may be unmatched. Tickets cost $50.47. Visit MiamiBeachBandshell.com .

Free beer: There will be free beer at Smorgasburg Miami this weekend, when the popular outdoor food fair celebrates two years in Wynwood with the Breweries and Bites Anniversary Celebration . Just stop at the bar when you get there to pick up a free ticket to enter the Beer Lounge, where you can sample away. Three breweries — La Tropical, Tripping Animals and J. Wakefield — will be pouring free samples from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visit SmorgasburgMiami.com .

A new party: Boca Raton will elevate its Irish festivities with the inaugural Proper St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on Sunday (the actual St. Patrick’s Day) from noon to 10 p.m. at Mizner Park Amphitheater . Created by the team behind the Sunset Tequila Festival, this family-friendly event will include authentic food and drink, vendors and a variety of kids’ activities. There will be music from Spred the Dub , the Adam David Band and Y100’s DJ GQ , plus Boca Raton Fire Department Pipes & Drums and Black Pearl Pipes & Drums . Admission is free with RSVP at Instagram.com/properstpatricksday . You can make it special (let’s call it Date Night No. 9) by springing for the tented Spirit Tasting Experience , a VIP space featuring more than a dozen whisky and spirits brands from 3 to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $75+. Visit ProperStPatricksDay.com .

Roxy music: Just up the street from O’Shea’s West Palm Beach block party, Roxy’s Pub will close the 300 block of Clematis for their own St. Patrick’s Day street party on Sunday. The pub will open at 7 a.m., and the block party begins at noon. The festivities will include a bank of outdoor bars and music from a steady parade of DJs, including local favorites Matte Black and Kid Karter . Visit Instagram.com/roxyspubwpb .

Sunday laughs: Comedian Tom Segura knows what I need to know. He and his wife, the equally funny Christina Pazsitzky , have been co-hosting the podcast “ Your Mom’s House ” since 2010. That’s gotta be some kind of record. Segura is at Hard Rock Live (Date Night No. 10) on Sunday at 7 p.m., with scattered tickets starting at $60+. Visit MyHRL.com .
