Maybe you’re coming out from winter hibernation for a quick road trip, or you’re finally able to break in those new hiking boots you were gifted for Christmas. Personally, I look forward to blooms and greenery after nature wakes up from her winter slumber. Everything feels fresh, new, and exciting.

BEST SPRING BREAKS IN EUROPE: UNFORGETTABLE CITY ESCAPES

Paris, france.

By Krisztina from She Wanders Abroad

Traveling to Paris is a wonderful idea all year round, however, the French capital is definitely one of the best cities to visit in spring in Europe.

The weather is usually nice and warm already with fewer tourist crowds compared to summer, which makes spring one of the best times to visit Paris.

On top of that, seeing the blooming flowers all around Paris is an unforgettable experience. Just think about magnolias and cherry blossoms (end of March/beginning of April), wisterias (end of April), or roses (mid-May)!

If you’re looking for the  best photography spots in Paris  during this season, head over to Jardin des Tuileries, Jardin des Plantes, and of course, the Eiffel Tower!

When in Paris, you can’t miss taking a stroll along the Seine River, exploring the world-famous Musée du Louvre, and window shopping on the Champs-Élysées.

If you happen to visit around Easter, you can also attend some concerts and feast on delicious chocolate eggs!

Sacre-Coeur Basilica Paris

VENICE, ITALY

By Claire from Tales of a Backpacker

I adore Venice at any time of year, but spring is my favorite time to visit. In springtime, the weather is warming up after winter but is still pleasantly cool without the humidity of July and August.

There are far fewer crowds than in the busier summer months, and as the days grow longer, you have more time to admire the beauty of Venice.

It is a perfect time to wander the pretty streets, take a gondola ride, and enjoy the  delicious food in Venice  without battling hordes of tourists.

It is also easier to explore the neighboring islands of Murano, Burano, and Lido, as the Vaporetto water buses are less crowded, and you are more likely to be able to sit down and enjoy the journey across the Venice lagoon.

As for where to stay, prices are likely to be cheaper in spring too, before the peak summer season pushes up the rates.

ATHENS, GREECE

By Chrysoula from Athens and Beyond

Whether you only have one day in Athens or an entire weekend, this city is a fantastic destination to visit in the spring.

You will get mainly sunny days with an average temperature between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, perfect weather for strolling around the many archaeological sites and the alleyways of the picturesque  Plaka neighborhood .

During that time, there are fewer crowds and prices for hotels and flights are relatively low. If you are visiting on the 25th of March, which is a national holiday, you will get to see the army parade at the center of Athens.

At the end of April and the beginning of May, Orthodox Easter is celebrated around Greece, which is another interesting time to visit the city.

Athens

BRUGES, BELGIUM

By Charu from Travel With CG

Bruges is an enchanting city whose sights feel straight out of storybooks of the past. Full of medieval buildings, other-worldly canals, and cobblestone streets, every nook here looks like it has been untouched for eons.

Being a destination whose charm not only lies out in the open but is also best seen on foot,  Bruges  is a wonderful European spring destination.

If you like having popular places without the peak season crowd, then spring is the ideal time to travel here.

With the weather getting warmer, you can comfortably stroll around the quaint alleys of Bruges’ historic town center and devour a delicious Belgian waffle or two.

There are also numerous boats offering canal tours, so you can hop on them for a picturesque ride. Lastly, make sure to climb 366 steps to reach the top of the Belfry Tower to get an unobstructed view of this charming city.

PALERMO (SICILY), ITALY

Palermo is the capital of the always sunny island of Sicily in the south of Italy. It is the perfect spot if you are craving a spring break in Europe and looking to top up on vitamin D.

Italy is renowned for its fabulous food – the best in the world according to many. Make sure to fill up on the traditional pizza and pasta, but save some room for the typical Sicilian street food when traveling in Palermo.

Stop by the  Antica Focacceria San Francesco  to munch on a typical Arancina (fried rice balls containing ragu or if you are a vegetarian –  a la norma ).

When in Palermo, be sure to visit the local churches. The most beautiful ones are the Church of the Gesu, San Giuseppe dei Teatini, and the extraordinary 12th-century Arab-Norman architectural gem – the Church of San Cataldo.

And last of all, stop by the Norman Palace, which dates back to the 9th century. It is the oldest palace in all of Europe!

The city isn’t packed with tourists yet, and you can peacefully enjoy all the great  things to do in Ljubljana : wandering around the Old Town, going up to the castle, or finding all the dragons (a well-known European legend ), just to name a few.

You might also go to Nebotičnik cafe to see the most beautiful view over Ljubljana and beyond from their open-air terrace.

Since recently Slovenia has become a very popular destination, spring is a perfect time to go for day trips from Ljubljana and see without crowds some of the most spectacular places in the country, such as Piran , Postojna Cave, or Lake Bled.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY

By Roxanne from Far Away Worlds

At the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Istanbul is a fascinating city, and spring is an especially beautiful time to visit this captivating place.

Flowers are blooming, softening the Ottoman architecture and bringing color to the mosques and churches dotted around the city.

The weather is warm and pleasant – the hot and humid days are more common in summer – and there’s scarcely a hint of the crowds you’ll see in July and August.

Spring is the perfect season to plan your Istanbul itinerary . It’s the best time to visit the stunning Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace, and the palace grounds are particularly lovely this time of year, with a colorful selection of flowers.

There are also several festivals happening around the city including the Istanbul Tulip Festival and several dance festivals. No matter  where you stay in Istanbul , there’s always something to see and do on your doorstep.

MADRID, SPAIN

If it’s not your first time here, you know that Madrid has my heart and that it feels like a second home to me.

Spring is an amazing season to explore the city, not only because of the pleasant weather but also because a few spots turn colorfully floral.

In March and April, the almond trees of Quinta de los Molinos Park are in full bloom (but one rainy day is enough to wash the flowers away so timing is critical), and in May, Oeste Park’s rose garden is as colorful as it can be.

If you do come across a rainy spring day, there are plenty of free museums , indoor markets, and cafes in Madrid , so your itinerary can easily be adjusted.

Visit places like the Royal Palace, Prado Museum, and Retiro Park, or discover Madrid’s hidden gems like its secret gardens and palaces.

VIENNA, AUSTRIA

By Lyubomira from Bulgarian On The Go

Located in the heart of Europe, Vienna is certainly beautiful all year round. But there is something very special about Austria’s capital in spring.

May it be the gorgeous blossom trees, blooming rose gardens, or just the fresh atmosphere of the city – it is definitely worth paying a visit.

Spring in Vienna is best spent outdoors – go to the Volksgarten, which is covered in 400 kinds of roses, marvel at the beauty of one of the most famous landmarks of Austria , the Schönbrunn Palace, and roam around its gardens and Orangery.

At the beginning of April, the Easter markets take place, while in May, visitors can satisfy their culinary needs at the Genussfestival in Stadtpark.

Vienna is a very active Austrian city , and it certainly comes to life during spring. You should definitely consider spending at least one or  two days in Vienna to experience its magic for yourself.

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

By Mayuri from To Some Place New

Prague is one of the best European cities to visit in spring.

This season, especially  Prague in March and April , is a delightful time to indulge in off-season travel, hang out at Easter markets, and enjoy seasonal festivities and events.

When Easter week comes, you must go Easter egg hunting in Prague’s Easter Markets like the Velikonocni Trhy.

You can also visit a cathedral and take part in choirs and ceremonies. Festivals and events also include a farmer’s market and a film festival.

Visiting off-season, you can easily explore the city center’s attractions with fewer crowds.

BELGRADE, SERBIA

By Ellis from Backpack Adventures

Belgrade in Serbia  is one of the best spring destinations in Europe. It’s a city with a tumultuous past that is probably part of the reason that tourism is still in its infancy.

Few people know that Belgrade is actually among the oldest cities in Europe. But Belgrade is becoming more popular for good reasons.

Besides its interesting history, it’s a young and dynamic capital with a thriving nightlife scene and a scenic location at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers.

Spring is when the city awakens. As days get warmer and sunnier, locals go out and about in a joyous mood.

This is a great time to join the locals in the city’s parks, such as the popular Kalemegdan Park in the heart of the city, where you can enjoy beautiful views from the fortress.

It’s also a time of festivities with several spring festivals and widely celebrated Easter traditions.

FREIBURG, GERMANY

By Mark from Wyld Family Travel

An easy day trip from Basel , Freiburg is located in an enviable location, close to the French Alsace Region and Swiss borders and on the edge of the acclaimed Black Forest.

Freiburg receives some of the best weather in Germany with many sunny days, making it one of the best spring break destinations in Europe. There are many  things to do in Freiburg  for the whole family.

The Bachle is unique to Freiburg. It is a series of small open waterways that flow through the city. Another local sight is the Freiburg Minster, which has been standing since the 12th century.

You can take a cable car from the city center to Schlossberg Hill, from where you will get some fantastic views of the city stretching into the mountains surrounding.

The mild weather is also great for visiting The Mundlehof, an open-air zoo and green zone where people walk and eat at the beer garden.

Freiburg is a lively city with many cafes, bars, beer gardens, and restaurants. Food in Freiburg has a German and French feel, and you should try the Flamkussen and Bratwurst, which are regional specialties.

Day trips to Colmar , Strasbourg, Basel, and Titisee are all doable in under an hour from Freiburg.

BEST DESTINATIONS TO VISIT IN SPRING IN EUROPE: REGIONS WORTH EXPLORING

Cappadocia, turkey.

By David from The World Travel Guy

The historical area of Cappadocia in central Turkey is full of natural wonders and unique landscapes, and spring is a great time to visit, with cooler weather and fewer crowds!

There are lots of good things to do in Cappadocia, Turkey , but the most popular activity by far is the signature hot air balloon ride.

More than half of the world’s hot air balloon rides happen in Cappadocia, and it’s an especially scenic place to do it because of all the rock formations you can see from above.

History buffs will be interested to know that this was the site of human settlements carved by refugees during the Roman Empire.

Most of the rock buildings and underground cities of Cappadocia can still be seen today, and they look just like Star Wars movie sets.

Other good reasons to come here are Turkish food, cave hotels, and numerous hiking trails.

MADEIRA ISLAND, PORTUGAL

By Megan from  Virginia Travel Tips

Portugal’s Madeira Island is spectacular no matter when you visit it, but it especially shines in spring!

The destination is renowned for its title of ‘eternal springtime’ actually, and it really feels that way when you visit as flowers and greenery are ever-present.

Surrounded by mountains, prehistoric volcanoes, waterfalls, and other natural wonders, Madeira is actually a bit cheaper in spring as the high season hasn’t been reached yet.

It will make accommodation easier to come by (especially earlier in the season). Some of the best activities for spring are hiking the  levadas , whale watching, snorkeling, and more.

Another reason to visit Madeira in spring is that there are different festivals throughout the island. One of the top festivals is the Madeira Flower Festival.

This is when the island celebrates spring’s arrival with thousands of flowers lining the streets, which is truly an epic experience.

The capital, Palma de Mallorca, makes for a great weekend getaway in Spain .

LOIRE DEPARTMENT , FRANCE

By Leyla from Offbeat France

Spring is perfect for offbeat destinations in France: the crowds haven’t yet arrived, and nature is in bloom.

But spring can also mean variable weather, and one destination that offers both indoor and outdoor experiences is  the Loire department  – not to be confused with the nearby Loire Valley.

The Loire department (number 42 in France’s numbering system) is a network of delightful villages, medieval churches, Renaissance chateaux, and quirky museums. One such chateau is the Bâtie d’Urfé, built in the 16th century, and inspired by the owner’s trip to Italy .

He also built a grotto, which is unique in France, and made entirely of shells, sand, and pebbles.

Beyond this chateau are the delightful villages of Ambierle and St-Haon-le-Chatel, with winding streets and ancient architecture, ideal for strolling.

If the weather shifts to rain or cooler temperatures, some of the area’s fun museums are the perfect refuge – the Hat Museum, for example, which keeps felting traditions alive, or the Silk Museum, which does the same for silk.

The area, by the way, is also known for its food and wine…

CAUCASUS REGION, ARMENIA/AZERBAIJAN/GEORGIA

By Megan from Absolute Armenia

The Caucasus is a wonderful region to put on your bucket list of the best European spring destinations. It includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, as well as the North Caucasus.

The reason this region inspires during the springtime is that winter moves out of the area and flowers are all over the place, making it colorful and lively once again.

You will find that the  waterfalls in Armenia , Georgia, and Azerbaijan are gushing after the snow melts in the mountains, and many holidays are celebrated in the region during this time.

Another perk of visiting during spring is that the region suffers from extremely hot temperatures during summer, and spring is comfortable and offers a pleasurable city experience regardless of whether you’re in Baku, Tbilisi, or Yerevan.

Spring is also a great time for events and festivals in the Southern Caucasus.

Baku hosts many events, including the Formula1 Races in April, Armenia has festivals such as Urvakan Music Fest and Yerevan Wine Days in May, and Georgia has a fantastic International Folk Festival.

ALSACE, FRANCE

Although it is known as a magical Christmas destination, the Alsace Wine Route is ideal for a spring trip. This is the oldest wine route in France, boasting carpets of vineyards dotted with storybook medieval villages, exquisite wineries, and old castle ruins.

Spring is the time when the scenery here is vibrantly green, the sky is clear, the weather is pleasant, and the Kutzig tourist bus, which lets you explore Alsace’s most famous villages without a car , starts operating again.

Those include the lovely Colmar and the dreamy Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, and Eguiseim, to name a few.

You should, of course, also have some wine tastings in the local wineries (I LOVED Freudenreich Joseph et Fils in Eguisheim), visit landmarks like the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, and even engage in activities like hiking and cycling.

You can also spend a couple of days in the beautiful city of Strasbourg, exploring its UNESCO-listed historic center, enjoying its culinary scene, and strolling through the intriguing Neustadt district.

DEVON, ENGLAND

By Kat from Wandering Bird

Devon in south England is one of the prettiest and best places to visit in Europe in spring.

Trees are green and lush and all the spring flowers are in bloom – thousands of daffodils, tulips, and bluebells.  You can also easily find cozy lodges in Devon , as well as other fantastic accommodations.

If you’d like to walk in a forest that is full of bluebells, head to Buzzards Woods, a National Trust-managed property. Parking is free and you can roam for hours, mesmerized by the sea of blue.

If you like flowers, this is also the time to add Dartmoor and the Dunsford Nature Reserve to your  Devon Road Trip itinerary  – famous for the wild daffodils that grow in abundance.

If you’re lucky, you’ll also see baby deer, chicks, and other wildlife coming out to enjoy the warmer weather.

You should also visit Devon in springtime for the food festivals. One of the biggest is the Exeter Festival of South-West Food and Drink, set on the grounds of Exeter Castle Courtyard and Northernhay Gardens.

Producers from around the region bring their best delicacies, and there are awards and demonstrations throughout. The Festival usually happens in early May.

LOFOTEN ISLANDS, NORWAY

By Megan from Megan & Aram

Spring in the Lofoten Islands differs from year to year, but one thing is for certain – it is stunning!

In some seasons, the winter in Lofoten will last until only March, and in other seasons, it will stick around until May.

However, one of the biggest perks of visiting Lofoten during spring is that the northern lights are still around, and you don’t have the midnight sun (or polar nights).

You can beat the crowds and witness them with cheaper prices and small tour groups.

Another advantage is that you can start the hiking and surfing season again. Unstad Arctic Surf in Bøstad is open and ready to teach visitors to surf these Arctic waves with ease.

You can also rent a car and travel around the islands very easily with less traffic on the roads during spring.

Some of the best places to visit and things to do in the Lofoten Islands during this time of year are Henningsvær, a fishing village with peaceful views and a charming harbor, horseback riding under the northern lights with Hovgård on Gimsøy, and experiencing the luxury of the Lofoten Rørbuer, fisherman cabins converted into accommodation.

PUGLIA, ITALY

If you want to enjoy one of Italy’s most popular summer spots but prefer to travel when there are much fewer crowds, Puglia in spring is for you.

This southern region is known for its pretty coastal towns (like Poignano a Mare) and dreamy beaches, though inland, you’ll find lovely countryside and must-see towns like Alberobello (and its unique Trulli houses) and Locorotondo.

It’s also the biggest producer of olive oil and one of the best yet undiscovered wine regions in Italy, and not surprisingly, the food here is absolutely incredible, offering typical dishes such as orecchiette with broccoli rabe, T iella (a baked delicacy made with rice, potatoes, and mussels), and spaghetti all ‘ assassina .

If you’re not looking to go for a swim, you can even visit Puglia in March , but the weather gets more pleasant in late spring.

In addition, you can visit Puglia without a car by taking day trips from Bari , the capital.

TICINO, SWITZERLAND

By Daria from The Discovery Nut

The only  Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland, Ticino  makes for a perfect spring destination thanks to its stunning scenery and mild temperatures.

Surrounded by the Southern Alps, Ticino has a warmer climate than the rest of Switzerland, which makes spring come here earlier.

Many of its major cities have a unique Mediterranean flair but offer an unmistakable Swiss character.

As winter chills away, warm weather moves in, giving way to opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and enjoying time outdoors in places like Valley Verzasca and Valley Maggia.

And Ticino is home not only to gorgeous scenery but also to many museums and cultural landmarks.

For example, a trip to Bellinzona, one of the best places to visit in Ticino (and its capital), is a must because of its castles, which are one of the main attractions in the entire canton.

This UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site will amaze you with its incredible architecture amid the green rolling hills of the surrounding valley.

WEST COAST OF CYPRUS

By Smita from My Faulty Compass

A wonderful mix of stunning natural beauty and fascinating history and folklore, the west coast of  Cyprus  is a dream destination, especially during the spring when the weather is perfect and there are barely any tourists!

Base yourself in Paphos and start your trip with the most iconic of Cyprus attractions – Petra tou Romiou, the birthplace of the legendary Aphrodite.

It is an idyllic location to take in the sunset or take a swim around the Aphrodite rock if you’d like to be blessed by the Goddess with eternal youth and beauty!

The city of Paphos itself is a historic treasure with its archaeological sites such as the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park and the Tombs of the Kings.

For more natural beauty, head to the Akamas peninsula. With its mountains, forests, and rugged coastline, this is the spot for some of the best hikes on the island.

RHODOPES REGION, BULGARIA

By Bilyana from Owl Over The World

The Rhodopes region encompasses Rhodopes Mountain, which is the largest mountain in Bulgaria. It is about 240 km long and 100 to 120 km wide. The average altitude of Rhodopes Mountain is 785 meters.

The Rhodopes region is home to many dams where locals love to go camping, karst areas, deep river gorges, large caves, and some of the most  charming villages to visit in Bulgaria .

The Waterfalls Canyon, close to the city of Smolyan, is perfect for a spring trip. The rains and the melted snow make the water levels high, so everything is green, and the trees are blooming.

Thracian tribes inhabited the Rhodopes for centuries and have left a rich cultural heritage. Many remains of their culture can be seen, including the ancient sites of Belintash, Perperikon, and Tatul.

The best way to explore the Rhodopes region is by car. Some places are very remote, and as an alternative, you can visit them on a hike or by bike (the Rhodopes are one of the best places for mountain biking in the country).

PROVENCE, FRANCE

By Nadine from Le Long Weekend

From late March, the landscape in Provence comes alive after a dormant winter, and spring blossoms and colorful crops fill the fields once again.

It starts with the delicate almond blossom before vibrant yellow rapeseed fills the scene, and then the region’s famed poppies take center stage.

But it’s not just the countryside that comes to life.

Spring is the season of  brocantes  – flea markets (including one of the biggest antique fairs in Europe – held in L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue), art exhibitions (such as the nationwide Journées des Métiers d’Art), and food festivals.

Everything from strawberries to goat’s cheese has its own place on the calendar, and attending these local festivities is a fabulous way of experiencing local life.

The weather is typically warm in spring, making it perfect for visiting the famed farmer’s markets, hiking the  Calanques , visiting the  region’s wineries , and exploring the charming streets of its villages and towns.

ANDALUCIA, SPAIN

Being the hottest region in Spain, Andalucia is an ideal destination for a European spring trip.

Steeped in history, it provides an opportunity to step back in time in the most stunning cities and their UNESCO-listed landmarks while also enjoying the beauty of white-washed villages and natural landscapes.

In the city of Granada, you can visit the magnificent Alhambra – a royal complex dating back to Moorish times, stroll through the historic neighborhoods of Sacromonte and Albayzín, and marvel at the cathedral.

In Cordoba, you can immerse yourself in the Jewish history of Andalucia, and in Seville, you should visit the Royal Alcázars of Seville, the jaw-dropping Gothic cathedral, and the photogenic Plaza de España.

Away from the cities, you’ll find enchanting villages such as Setenil de las Bodegas and Mijas, as well as national and natural parks like the Sierra Nevada and Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas.

In spring, apart from Easter celebrations across Andalucia, major seasonal festivals take place, from Seville’s Feria de Abril to the  Patios de Cordoba , an explosion of colorful flowers.

While it is possible to get around the region’s cities by public transport, it’s best to take a road trip through Andalucia to visit its stunning villages, parks, and hidden gems .

WEST COAST OF IRELAND

By Luke from  Wild About B C

Taking a road trip along the wild and rugged West Coast of Ireland is an epic adventure.

Spring is an ideal time to visit as the weather is much better than in the winter and you’ll get all of the natural beauty with almost none of the crowds.

It’s not for nothing that the West Coast is one of the top places you must visit in Ireland . It’s known for its stormy seas and large waves battering the shoreline, so you will have a chance to witness the raw power of the Atlantic.

Some of the highlights along the West Coast include the Cliffs of Moher, Galway City, and Slieve League, but you should also visit some of the prettiest coastal towns in Ireland like Westport and Dingle.

One of the most fun parts of a road trip here is exploring some of the lesser-known areas and enjoying a pint of Guinness in tiny local pubs (where you’ll wonder where all the customers actually come from).

A visit to the beautiful Emerald Isle is one you will never forget.

NORTHERN IRELAND

By Allan from It’s Sometimes Sunny in Bangor

For many, spring is the  best time to visit Northern Ireland , as it marks the beginning of the tourist season with the reopening of many of the country’s scenic tourist attractions.

This includes the opening of many gardens and tours of historic homes and manors, many of which are run by the National Trust.

Northern Ireland is also a compact and close-knit country to explore, so a road trip is perfect at this time of the year through the many gardens and homes.

Some of the more popular attractions include the Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, which is the official residence in Northern Ireland of the Queen and Royal Family.

Other visit-worthy National Trust properties are the gardens of Mount Stewart, Castle Ward (famous as the filming location of Winterfell in the Game of Thrones), and Rowallane Gardens.

LATGALE REGION, LATVIA

By Margherita from The Crowded Planet

Not many people may have heard of the  Latgale region in Eastern Latvia , a wonderful destination for nature lovers. Latgale is especially known for its many lakes.

The largest is Lake Lubans, an excellent birdwatching destination located on the migration route between Scandinavia and Southern Europe.

There are also many more outdoor experiences you can enjoy – paddleboarding to the ruins of Koknese Castle, kayaking along interconnected lakes, and mountain biking to a village of Old Believers (a religious Russian Orthodox minority with a unique culture and cuisine).

The main town in the region is Daugavpils, known for its fortress and for being the birthplace of the artist Mark Rothko. There is now a museum and arts center dedicated to him in the fortress, where you can also spend the night.

Spring is the perfect time to enjoy Latgale, as the weather is generally nice and sunny, the flowers are in bloom, and it’s a great time for birdwatching!

CINQUE TERRE, ITALY

By Monique from Trip Anthropologist

April and May are the perfect months to visit the Cinque Terre. The weather is warm, but it gets dark at around 5 pm, and it can sometimes rain.

This means that getting out onto the sea and lazing on the tiny harbor beaches of the Cinque Terre is lovely in the middle of the day.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is best discovered by walking and hiking. Above  Vernazza  and the other five villages are hiking paths through orchards, olive groves, and medieval fortifications and castles.

Walking and hiking through the villages is one of the best activities in the Cinque Terre as much of the beauty comes from the colorful houses and the winding cobblestone streets.

The Cinque Terre is best accessed by train – the railway winds along the coastline and through tunnels and is an exciting way to arrive at these beautiful villages.

DURMITOR NATIONAL PARK, MONTENEGRO

By Angeline from  Go Around Philippi nes

Montenegro is a small country with different landscapes. Spring is the best time to experience its Adriatic coast, its stunning rugged mountains, and the limestone peaks of the Durmitor National Park.

Durmitor is a breathtaking national park formed by glaciers and is traversed by rivers and underground streams. The best way to see it is by renting a car and going on a road trip.

Start from the capital of Podgorica and continue going up to Durmitor Park. The park has about fifty peaks higher than 2,000 meters above sea level with alpine meadows and forests, glacial lakes, and spectacular canyons.

Many endemic animals can be found in the park too. The Tara River Gorge, Europe’s deepest gorge can also be found here. You can hike, camp, swim in the lakes, go mountaineering and canoeing, and enjoy the beauty of nature.

ALGARVE REGION, PORTUGAL

By Alya & Campbell from Stingy Nomads

The sunny Algarve region in the south of Portugal is a perfect destination for a spring vacation in Europe. The Algarve is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches, hidden bays and coves, warm turquoise color water, and delicious seafood.

Spring is the best time to visit the Algarve – sunny warm days, not too many tourists, thousands of spring flowers cover the fields along the coast , and hundreds of storks are nesting on the edges of the cliffs.

April and May are the best months for outdoor activities in the region. There are many  breathtaking hiking trails  along the coast, a couple of great surfing and kitesurfing spots, and several cycling routes with picturesque views.

Spring isn’t the high season in the Algarve, which means there will be plenty of accommodation options for a reasonable price, unlike during the summer holiday season.

There is an international airport in Faro, the region’s capital, and most smaller towns can be reached by daily public buses from Lisbon.

MORAY SPEYSIDE, SCOTLAND

By Eric from Food and Drink Destinations

The Speyside region of northeastern Scotland is certainly worth visiting.

Over 150 miles north of both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Speyside can be reached by car or train. The region is a must for those who travel for food, nature, and history.

Famous for being home to the highest concentration of whisky distilleries in Scotland, you can sample numerous whiskies by traveling the world’s only Malt Whisky Trail.

For lovers of nature and history, the Speyside region features rolling hillsides, crystal blue rivers, and, of course, castles. There are plenty of opportunities to explore Speyside on foot via the Speyside Way, a 60+ mile-long walking route.

Scotland’s food  doesn’t always have the best reputation. In Speyside, chefs are using incredible ingredients from the land and sea to rewrite what people know about Scottish food.

On your next trip to Scotland, make sure to carve off a few days to visit Speyside.

So, if you are looking for relaxing, idyllic spring holiday destinations in Europe with fewer crowds that also offer rich history and culture, consider planning a trip across Dalmatia.

It’s also a good time to visit the famous Plitvice and Krka National Parks in peace.

In late spring, with warmer weather, you can even try to take a dip in the sea at one of its popular islands.

It's that time of year when our bodies and minds begin screaming for a vacation, unleashing a deep desire to defrost from the winter chill and all the burdens that come with it. While we'd argue there's never a bad time of the year to book that plane ticket—spring 2024 is looking like an especially good one.

That's because airfares are becoming much more affordable compared to last year; average airfares for March are down 3% compared to 2023, and April airline tickets are 8% cheaper than last year, according to data from travel search site Kayak .

While airfares are down across the board, some destinations offer a better deal than others. So, we asked travel search and booking sites for their latest intel on destinations where airfares are dropping for March and April. Whether you’re craving a beach getaway or you’re in need of a city visit to soak up art and culture, there’s an affordable spring destination for you.

Here are seven destinations—both international and domestic—you can visit this spring without blowing your travel budget, according to the latest data. From US and Canadian urban hubs to coastal getaways in Mexico , the Caribbean, and Central America , the results might surprise you.

Nashville, Tennessee

For a budget-friendly getaway this spring, consider heading to Nashville: Average airfare to the bustling country music haven is just $277 round-trip in March, according to Kayak's data. Aside from Honky Tonk Row, the famous lineup of live music joints and dance halls along Broadway, there’s plenty else to explore in Music City. Pop into the National Museum of African American Music or the Jefferson Street Sound Museum to learn about the history of the city’s Black music scene, then take a guided tour of RCA Studio B —where icons like Elvis recorded their albums—and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Where to stay: Check out our guides to the best hotels and Airbnbs in Nashville, from lively modern stays to historic boutique hotels like The Russell Nashville .

Take advantage of cheap airfare to Central America and enjoy a coastal getaway to Belize City.

Belize City, Belize

Airfares to Central America are down 11% from this time last year and down 6% from 2019, according to data from travel booking site Hopper , meaning the region is an ideal destination for a tropical vacation that won’t break the bank. Take advantage of the price drops by booking a flight to Belize City, where airfares are averaging $546 from the US, data from Priceline says. With your savings, continue onto a puddle-jumper flight to Placencia and book a suite at one of the luxe beachfront resorts on the peninsula.

Where to stay: Out of our readers' favorite hotels in Central America , 9 out of 20 are located in Belize, including Placencia's Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas .

Montréal, Canada

Looking to visit a city with a thriving culinary scene and plenty of art and culture? Book a visit to Montréal , where airfares for March are averaging only $361 roundtrip, Kayak says. Although March is still quite chilly in Québec’s largest city, the crowds will be much thinner compared to the warmer summer months. There are plenty of museums to tour, like the show-stopping Museum of Fine Arts, and quaint cafés to warm up in. Cozy winter attractions, like the iconic skating rink in the Esplanade Tranquille, are still on offer in March, and the month is prime sugar-shack season , when maple syrup is harvested and all things maple-flavored are featured on restaurant menus.

Where to stay: Check out our guide to the best hotels in Montréal , including creative haven Hotel Uville and the historic Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel .

Guadalajara is home to a thriving design scene and walkable, picturesque streets lined with art galleries.

Guadalajara, Mexico

If you need a warm and sunny getaway, consider booking a flight to Guadalajara in the Mexican state of Jalisco. In March, the average temperature reaches a high of 85 degrees with practically no chance of rain—and the average airfare for March is cheap, currently clocking in at $336 roundtrip, according to Kayak. In Guadalajara, you can soak up the city’s thriving design scene with a walk through Calle Independencia, a picturesque, cobblestoned street lined with galleries and open to pedestrians only. The city also offers one of the best food scenes in Mexico : It’s the hometown of birria , slowly stewed tacos served with flavorful consommé. Jalisco is also the birthplace of tequila, so be sure to take a tasting tour through the area.

Where to stay: Check out our readers' 10 favorite hotels in Mexico . In Guadalajara, stay at the quirky Casa Fayette , located in its up-and-coming Lafayette arts district.

Tampa, Florida

Turquoise waters and white sand beaches are more accessible than ever, thanks to low airfares to Tampa, Florida . The average airfare to the city along the Gulf Coast is averaging $288 this spring, according to Priceline, and Kayak shows that 2024 prices are about 19% lower than last year’s. Spring is the perfect time to pay a visit to the city’s Manatee Viewing Center, when the docile sea cows migrate to the refuge’s warmer waters.

The bustling city is nestled in natural splendor—plus, the average airfare for April is just $331 round-trip. It’s an ideal time to visit, as April is the start of whale watching season , when orcas, humpbacks, and gray whales begin returning to the waters just off the city’s coastline. To truly immerse yourself in nature, take a meandering hike through the dense and biodiverse Pacific Spirit Regional Park . It’s known for its towering evergreen trees, but in April, deciduous varieties like bitter cherry trees will be in bloom.

11 fresh ideas for spring break in 2024

Brian Healy

Feb 1, 2024 • 7 min read

best travel destinations spring

Need a fresh idea for spring break this year? Try somewhere unexpected, like Big Bend National Park in West Texas © Kanokwalee Pusitanun / Getty Images

February is here. The weather is getting warmer (we swear!). Summer isn’t too far off. But first? Spring break.

After long nights and gray days, the wonderful tradition of escaping the grind to somewhere usually warm and always fun lets you shake off those winter blues and look forward to the idylls to come. And spring break means much more than just flights to Florida – a place we adore, but whose population swells a bit too much for our taste each spring.

Read on for a range of destinations that you might not have thought of for the annual March/April getaway. They’re all long on fun – without the raucous college partiers. Here’s our list of the best spring break destinations for 2024.

People take a picture on a side street in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, USA

1. Asheville, North Carolina, USA

Southern charm, a live-and-let-live creative community and plenty of outdoor possibilities make Asheville one of the USA ’s most appealing places to visit – for spring break and beyond. This small city in the Appalachian foothills has the highest concentration of breweries of any place in the country, while its award-winning food scene ranges from Southern classics at Tupelo Honey to mouthwatering Spanish tapas at local favorite Cúrate .

While in Asheville, it’s hard to resist a visit to the largest mansion in the US, the Biltmore . And active spring breakers will have plenty to seek out, too: you’re at the threshold of Great Smoky Mountains National Park – the most visited one in the entire country – with miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking or spotting wildlife like black bears, elk and red-bellied woodpeckers. Outdoorsy types can also take to the peaceful French Broad River for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.

People look through a viewfinder among the cacti of the Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix, Arizona, USA

2. Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Unless you really like the desert sun, we’d recommend skipping Phoenix , Arizona in the summer months. But late winter and early spring in the Arizona desert ? Now we’re talking. Besides the sunny but not too hot weather, Phoenix offers plenty of options to unwind , whether your idea of spring break means getting your vitamin D while playing outdoors or soaking it up along with a few cocktails at your nearest bar patio.

While in town, admire the array of succulents, cacti and other native plants at the Desert Botanical Garden . In downtown Phoenix, stroll the Roosevelt Row Arts District, with stops at galleries and record stores. After you’ve caught one of Phoenix’s technicolored desert sunsets, hole up at late-night haunts with great rooftop patios like the Grapevine for karaoke, or Valley Bar and Crescent Ballroom for cocktails, live music, DJ sets or arty community parties.

Field of blue bonnets alongside Cerro Castella in Big Bend National Park, West Texas, USA

3. Big Bend National Park, Texas, USA

Deep in the heart of Texas , the skies don’t get wider and the nights starrier than in Big Bend National Park , the…star attraction of the wide-open western part of the state. And in early spring, a blue layer sets in, as thousands of wildflowers (depending on the year’s rainfall) make the desert bloom.

Lovers of the outdoors will find endless opportunities among the park’s 1250 sq miles (3237 sq km) of scrubland and low mountains – think hiking and camping, or even just (very) scenic drives. To best experience the park’s grandeur, arrange a day (or more) of paddling on the Rio Grande, through Santa Elena Canyon, where rugged limestone cliffs plunge to the narrow water below – a thrilling cathedral of nature.

People watch skateboarding at Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California, USA

4. Los Angeles, California, USA

While you can find sun, sand and surf at countless spring break destinations, you’ll enjoy people-watching like nowhere else at the urban beaches of Los Angeles . Sun-kissed California girls and boys frolic in the waves of wholesome  Santa Monica , while colorful characters keep it real on the boardwalk of  Venice Beach . Insiders – and especially surfers – know to head further south to Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches for a more low-key scene. And the sprawling dunes of  Malibu provide a taste a nature just a few miles from the clamor of the city.

A woman hikes through snow at Hawaii Volcano National Park, Hawai‘i (the Big Island), Hawaii, USA

5. Hawai‘i (the Big Island), Hawaii, USA

Hawaii ’s largest island offers huge pleasures all year long. Yet March marks the end of the high season in this tropical state, and budget travelers can usually find (relative) discounts for getaways to the Big Island . Trek up toward snow-capped peaks , wander through a verdant Kona coffee farm and watch the island get just a little bit bigger at one of the longest-running volcanic eruptions anywhere in the world. Expect much more than a mere beach getaway.

A palm tree along a beach on Vieques, Puerto Rico

6. Culebra and Vieques, Puerto Rico

Off the east coast of pearl-like Puerto Rico , look forward to white sands, sparkling blue sea, slow living – and not an all-inclusive resort in sight. Tiny Culebra is home to the extraordinary expanse of Playa Flamenco , one of the best beaches in the entire Caribbean ; at Playa Carlos Rosario , snorkeling with sea turtles is an experience you’ll never forget. Larger and skinnier yet just as languid, nearby Vieques has myriad beaches to traverse. Its crown jewel is Bahía Mosquito , an astonishing bioluminescent bay. Venture out on an after-dark kayak trip to witness one of nature’s best magic shows, as microscopic organisms glow in the dark below the surface, making the water glitter.

The Peak 2 Peak gondola passes over skiers on the slopes in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada

7. Whistler, Canada

If skis appeal more than surfboards for a spring escape, head to the world-famous resort town of Whistler , British Columbia . Come March, the peak season wanes, and the mountains begin to offer up discounts to keep the momentum going. At this point in the season, the days are longer and the skies clearer – but months of winter weather have ensured a solid snowpack for run after run. For 360-degree views of the glorious scenery, take a ride in the Peak 2 Peak Gondola , a 2.75-mile (4.4km) feat of engineering that connects the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. At lower elevations, hikes through conifer forests might have you spotting the area’s black bears as they emerge from hibernation.

People sat on a boat watch a whale breaching at a safe distance

8. Southern Baja California, Mexico

Catch a plane to Los Cabos – then immediately head north, away from the cluster of tourist resorts. A short distance up the sparsely populated Pacific Coast of Baja California Sur , nature beckons. The weather is ideal in the spring, and the beautiful coastline offers the chance to see sea lions, kayak through turquoise waters, go whale watching (the season ends in March) and even help with turtle conservation, all of which will allow you to return home with ecological bragging rights rather than drinking stories.

Sunset on the beach at El Tunco, El Salvador

9. El Tunco, El Salvador

One of Central America ’s least visited but most intriguing countries, El Salvador has lately been attracting new attention from visitors from all over. This small but mighty place tempts with mountain hikes, sunny beach days and surfing galore – and with frequent nonstop flights between many cities in the USA and San Salvador , it’s easy to pack it all into an itinerary lasting just a few days.

The waves hit El Salvador’s rocky coast especially intensely at El Tunco, a small village that’s become a major stop on the world’s surfing circuit. At any given moment, dozens of surfers are catching gnarly breaks just beyond the shoreline. On land, sun-kissed visitors toast to an active day on the waves at the town’s lively collection of beachfront restaurants and bars.

10. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Grab your passport, your sunscreen and the skimpiest bathing suit you own and head to one of South America ’s premier destinations. In addition to its famous beaches, Rio de Janeiro has something to offer every type of spring breaker: stunning panoramas, fantastic food and a variety of outdoor adventures that will make for a getaway to remember.

Set up camp on Ipanema Beach to see and be seen, or join the ranks of other tourists on Copacabana ’s hotel-lined oceanfront. Take the cable car up to Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain) or bask in the colossal shadow of Cristo Redentor atop Corcovado by day. Then hit the bar scene in Botafogo or party to the sounds of samba in the clubs of Lapa by night. You might not want to come back home.

11. The Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

How about an island getaway for spring break with crowds of tortoises instead of college kids? Remote yet worth every effort to get to, the Galápagos Islands , home to some of the earth’s rarest and most unique flora and fauna, are the answer for nature-loving, adventure-seeking travelers.

With a minimal human footprint, Galápagos (part of Ecuador ) has unmatched biodiversity – endemic species such as giant tortoises, marine iguanas and blue-footed boobies roam the islands at ranges close enough to interact with. Go surfing, kayaking, biking or scuba diving near the town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on Isla San Cristóbal , or snorkel alongside stingrays, turtles and the occasional shark at Devil’s Crown, one of the archipelago’s most outstanding marine sites. Most arrive at this most remote part of the world through a package tour – though adventurous travelers can put together their own itineraries , too.

Best spring break destinations in the U.S.

Best for beach lovers: Huntington Beach, CA

1.  Best for beach lovers: Huntington Beach, CA

With over eight miles of pristine, palm-fringed shoreline, Huntington Beach is the quintessential SoCal beach town—and I’m already dreaming of my next trip back since visiting in December. Oh, and did I mention it’s just an hour’s drive from Los Angeles?

Also known as Surf City, USA, Huntington Beach is a haven for surfers thanks to its year-round swell. Get your Zen on with Yoga on the Beach , which offers donation-based classes, or embark on a boat tour of the harbor before noshing on fresh seafood at Bearflag Fish Co. or grabbing a latte at Philz. At the end of your action-packed day by the beach, watch the sun slip into the ocean while sipping craft cocktails at Offshore 9 Rooftop Lounge or the Treehouse Lounge .

Best for wellness: Sedona, AZ

2.  Best for wellness: Sedona, AZ

For a wellness-centric spring break getaway, look no further than Sedona. The majestic city is famous for its energy vortexes—the most famous being Airport Mesa , Cathedral Rock , Bell Rock and Boynton Canyon—which are said to be conducive to healing and meditation. As such, it’s not uncommon to find folks meditating along these vortexes, which also offer stunning hiking opps. Sedona is also home to a handful of top-rated wellness resorts, including Mii amo and The Wilde Resort & Spa . Of course, no trip here is complete without a Pink Jeep Tour .

Best for families: Myrtle Beach, SC

3.  Best for families: Myrtle Beach, SC

With its 60 miles of coastline and vibrant entertainment offerings, Myrtle Beach is one of the country's best family-friendly spring break destinations. Beyond the pristine stretches of sand, travelers can ride the SkyWheel (which towers 200 feet above the buzzy 1.2-mile-long boardwalk ) or go mini-golfing (the destination is home to over 50 courses). Broadway At the Beach is dotted with shopping, dining and entertainment venues, including Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach and WonderWorks , which offers over 100 interactive exhibits for children of all ages. It’s also worth noting that Myrtle Beach is a certified autism-friendly destination through the Champion Autism Network (CAN), which means there are sensory-friendly experiences, specially trained staff and more .

Best for outdoor adventure: Asheville, NC

4.  Best for outdoor adventure: Asheville, NC

Flanked by the Blue Ridge Mountains, this hip mountain town and its surrounding area offer thousands of hiking trails, including the fan-favorite Craggy Pinnacle , which offers stunning mountain scenery while winding through a lush rhododendron thicket. Alternate adventures—think: mountain biking, rock climbing, rafting, kayaking, tubing, off-roading and ziplining—also abound within easy driving distance of downtown. Spring is also a great time to visit Asheville since it marks the start of wildflower season —best experienced and enjoyed, of course, on foot. We recommend renting a car to visit nearby outdoor attractions like Pisgah National Forest , DuPont State Forest and Mt. Mitchell State Park .

Best for foodies: San Antonio, Texas

5.  Best for foodies: San Antonio, Texas

Often overlooked in favor of Austin or Dallas, San Antonio is a surprising haven for foodies. The destination—also known as the Culinary Capital of Texas—was named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2017, making it one of only two U.S. cities to receive this designation (the other is Tuscon). Local favorite favorites include Rudy’s Seafood , Clementine , and 2M Smokehouse . Burn off your meal by strolling the San Antonio River Walk , which spans over 15 miles and is lined with shops, theme parks, hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, nightlife and more. The Alamo , a historic Spanish mission and fortress dating back to the 18th century, is also a must-visit.

Best for partying: Miami

6.  Best for partying: Miami

No spring break list would be complete without Miami . This sultry city by the sea is teeming with bars, lounges and nightclubs to appease partygoers of all ages. For pre-dinner drinks, hit spots like Swizzle Rum Bar & Drinkery , Cafe La Trova (which was named as one of the World’s 50 Best Bars in 2023), or the uber-swanky Champagne Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club. Then, keep the good vibes going at party-centric eateries like Kiki on the River or Bâoli Miami . The night is still young, though: From there, go club-hopping at LIV , E11EVEN or Basement . Alternatively, those who prefer to party during the day can check out Nikki Beach , Strawberry Moon , Oasis or Hyde Beach .

Best for skiers: Reno Tahoe, NE

7.  Best for skiers: Reno Tahoe, NE

It’s not too late to enjoy a spring ski vacation, so as long as you know where to go. That said, look no further than Nevada’s Reno Tahoe region, which is near several ski hotspots —most notably Lake Tahoe , comprised of six ski resorts complete with fun for all experience levels plus some seriously stunning lake views—and makes the perfect home base. Beyond the slopes, travelers can hike to nearby Monkey Rock (flanked by postcard-worthy vistas and towing trees), grab a bite at the Reno Public Market (where you’ll find everything from BBQ to ramen) or enjoy some indoor fun at the interactive Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum . Animal lovers of all ages also need not miss the Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary . Open seasonally from March through November, the sanctuary is home to majestic creatures like wolves and bears.

Best for romance: Savannah, GA

8.  Best for romance: Savannah, GA

Georgia’s oldest city is nothing short of charming with its leafy public squares and parks, many of which are full of lush magnolias, palmettos, crepe myrtles and sycamore trees. This, combined with the city’s historic architecture—styles range from Federal and Georgian to Greek Revival and Gothic Revival—only adds to the romantic atmosphere. Upon visiting with my husband last February, we practically fell in love with Savannah the moment we arrived. One of my favorite memories was strolling along the river hand in hand with frozen daiquiris from nearby Wet Willie’s . For a truly memorable date night, reserve a table at The Olde Pink House to enjoy classic southern fare in a historic Colonial-style mansion.

Best for art lovers: Santa Fe, NM

9.  Best for art lovers: Santa Fe, NM

Located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, this dynamic destination dates back to the 1600s. It’s also home to one of the country's most eclectic art, architecture and design scenes. In addition to its adobe landmarks, including the historic Plaza, Santa Fe has over 250 galleries and studios to explore. Start by making your way down Canyon Road, lined with over 100 galleries, shops and boutiques. The Railyard District is another hotspot for art lovers, as is the Shidoni Gallery and Sculpture Gardens. If museums are more your thing, don’t sleep on the New Mexico Museum of Art on the Plaza or The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture .

Best for a city escape: New York, NY

10.  Best for a city escape: New York, NY

Maybe I’m a bit biased, but in my opinion, there’s no place like New York. What’s more, the concrete jungle offers something for everyone. World-class entertainment and music theater? Check. Fascinating history and culture? You bet. Cuisine from dozens, if not hundreds, of countries? Of course. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or an NYC veteran, don’t sleep on iconic—albeit tourist-heavy—sites like Central Park, The Met, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and the Brooklyn Bridge. Also, the Big Apple comprises four additional boroughs outside of Manhattan, each of which is well worth exploring. Finally, for the best city views, head to one of these rooftop bars .

This Florida airport had the most delays: The best, worst airports for spring break travel

best travel destinations spring

Nothing can ruin a spring break getaway faster than encountering a travel disruption at the airport.

Half of all travelers with spring break plans are “concerned” about disruptions impacting their travel plans, according to travel platform Hopper’s 2024 Spring Break Travel Outlook .

The report said last year saw a higher-than-average volume of disruptions. During spring break, 20.1% of flights were delayed, compared to 18.4% throughout 2023.

For smooth travels, aGamble analyzed flight departure data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics to see which airports had the most disruptions during March and April 2023 – the usual spring break period. Disruptions included delays, cancellations and diversions.

“With spring break officially kicking off, airports are expected to be crowded throughout the coming weeks, and travelers may face flight disruptions depending on their departure location,” Collin Czarnecki, a researcher for aGamble, told USA TODAY in an email.

“It might not be surprising that a majority of airports with the most flight disruptions are located in spring break destination hotspots such as Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Miami,” Czarnecki said. On the other hand, the airports with the best on-time departures during the spring break period last year were Pittsburgh International Airport in Pittsburgh and Portland International Airport in Oregon.

Czarnecki also added that the second and third week of March will be the busiest at security checkpoints, so be sure to arrive at the airport with ample time.

The worst airports for spring break travel

Kashmir in pictures: Best spring experiences for an unforgettable holiday

Precious Rongmei , TIMESOFINDIA.COM , TRAVEL TRENDS , SRINAGAR Updated : Mar 28, 2024, 14:09 IST

best travel destinations spring

In spring, Kashmir transforms into a paradise of vibrant colours and fragrant blossoms. The valley comes alive with lush green meadows, blooming flowers, and snow-capped peaks, creating a picturesque landscape that captivates the senses. Kashmir is renowned for its breathtaking beauty, and springtime amplifies its charm with a burst of colours and rejuvenation after the long and snowy winter months. Here are some reasons why Kashmir is exceptional in spring and some unmissable experiences:

Blooming tulips, a must-visit

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar is one of the largest tulip gardens in Asia. In spring, it becomes a riot of colours with thousands of tulips in full bloom, creating a mesmerising spectacle.

Enjoy the beauty of almond blossoms

Spring heralds the blooming of almond trees in Kashmir, covering the landscape in delicate white and pink blossoms. The almond orchards in places like Badamwari in Srinagar are a sight to behold during this time.

Shikara rides on Dal Lake

As the weather warms up, Dal Lake comes alive with vibrant Shikaras (traditional wooden boats) gliding through its sparkling waters. Taking a Shikara ride during spring allows you to witness the beauty of blooming gardens and floating markets along the shores.

Exploring Mughal Gardens

The Mughal Gardens of Srinagar, including Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi, are at their most enchanting in spring. These meticulously landscaped gardens boast terraced lawns, cascading fountains, and blooming flowers, offering a tranquil retreat amidst nature's splendour.

Hiking in Gulmarg

Gulmarg, known as the Meadow of Flowers, is particularly captivating during spring when its meadows come alive with a riot of colourful flowers. Hiking or taking a Gondola ride to higher altitudes offers panoramic views of snow-capped peaks.

Sightseeing in Pahalgam

Pahalgam, with its lush meadows, pristine rivers, and dense forests, is an idyllic destination for a springtime sightseeing. Visitors can also relax by the Lidder River, stroll through verdant valleys, and immerse themselves in the serene ambiance of nature.

Birdwatching in Dachigam National Park

Spring is an excellent time for birdwatching in Dachigam National Park, located near Srinagar. The park is home to various avian species, and is also home to the endangered Hangul (Kashmir stag).

Visit Betaab Valley

Betaab Valley, named after the Bollywood movie Betaab which was shot here, is a picturesque destination near Pahalgam. In spring, the valley is adorned with blooming flowers, lush greenery, and snow-capped peaks, offering a serene retreat amidst nature's splendour.

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

Every year, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring, not just for the longer days and stunning blooms, but for the opportunity to reintroduce layers and vibrant colors into my wardrobe. And with the weather warming up, New Yorkers are outside more than ever, and unknowingly creating the season's biggest trends.

As a travel writer with a love for all things fashion, I've been keeping a close eye on what’s in store for spring fashion, surveying everything from the fashion week catwalks and red carpets to the streets of Soho. Naturally, I’ve been finding ways to build outfits around these trends on my recent (and upcoming) trips, and have narrowed them all down eight ones that’ll supplement any wardrobe for my fellow fashion-savvy travelers.

If you’re looking for a wardrobe refresh (or inspiration for your next 'fit), you’re in luck because these trends consist of reliable basics , colorful sneakers , and more functionally stylish pieces that’ll compliment any look, and are incredibly travel-friendly. The cherry on top is that many of the styles that I’m eyeing also happen to be on sale; prices starting at just $15 for matching sets and floral-covered garments . Keep scrolling to find your new favorite travel clothes.

Lightweight, Barely There Garments

The welcoming of the warm weather means that it’s time to put lightweight, breathable pieces at the forefront of your wardrobe. Brands are embracing the sheer trend , and it's a great opportunity to play around with layers; it just makes me feel so effervescent and free (and a bit like a fairy). Right now, I’m gushing over the Wilfred Flourish Camisole from Aritzia (as seen styled below), especially when paired with an equally dreamy skirt (the one pictured is the Beach Club Tiered Maxi Skirt from American Eagle).

There’s a lot of room to play with this trend by pairing the sheer pieces with mesh, crochet, and other lightweight (and very layerable) fabrics. For example, I’m into this Shu-Shi Sheer Blouse that I can spice up with different colored tanks underneath and the Zesica Crochet Top to look effortlessly fashionable around town.

  • Wilfred Flourish Camisole , $88
  • Shu-Shi Sheer Blouse , $29
  • Madewell Semi-Sheer Mockneck Sweater Top , $60 (originally $75)
  • Zesica Crochet Top , $26 (originally $34)
  • Wilfred Frenchy Blouse , $98
  • Abercrombie Long-Sleeve Sheer Maxi Dress Coverup , $90
  • Ramy Brook Berkley Shirt Mini Dress , $425
  • Abercrombie Sheer Rib Layered Slash Top , $40
  • Cutiefox Women's Knit Tank , $20 with on-site coupon (originally $32)

Colorful Sneakers

New Balance

As much as I love my white sneakers , I can’t help but feel called to replace all of my tennis shoes with bright, bold kicks after witnessing firsthand how they unexpectedly elevate any look. I can’t walk as far as a block or two without seeing plenty of colorful, eye-catching sneakers, and they are making me want to upgrade my classic white pair of New Balance 550s with this bright blue pair from the same brand.

It’s not just lifestyle shoes that are getting a bright makeover. I’ve seen the West Side Highway filled with runners sporting trendy colorful kicks like the bright orange Hoka Mach 6s and pastel-hued Brooks Glycerin StealthFit Sneakers on their daily runs. This is a fun, easy trend to hop on, so if you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to refresh your travel shoe collection, I recommend doing it with a fun pair that makes you excited to get out the door.

  • New Balance Unisex 550 Sneakers , $120
  • Hoka Mach 6 Running Shoes , $140
  • Brooks Glycerin StealthFit Sneakers , $160
  • Skechers Women's Uno-Night Shade Sneakers , $47 (originally $79)
  • Reebok Unisex-Adult Leather Sneakers , $75 (originally $85)

  • Merrell Alpine 83 Sneakers , $70 (originally $80)
  • Under Armour Charged Verssert 2 Sneakers , $57 (originally $75)
  • Cariuma Women's Low Oca Green Canvas Sneakers , $85

Two-Piece Sets

Free People

If there’s one way to always look put together, it's with a matching set. At Travel + Leisure, we’ve been longtime fans of this genius styling hack so, as you can imagine, we’re embracing this trend with open arms. We can’t get enough of the Anrabess Two-Piece Sweater Set at Amazon that’s been garnering rave reviews from shoppers for months. It comes with a breezy, comfortable, short-sleeve sweater and easy-wearing knit trousers that can be worn together, or separately to double your styling options (oh, and it's on sale for just $40).

I’m also loving the matching Aerie Offline Fleece Shorts and matching Aerie Offline Fleece Hoodie for warmer travel days where I don’t want to overheat, but will still be prioritizing comfort. As for matching sets that you can wear to the airport, gym, and out on a hike, I can’t recommend the Vuori Halo Slim Flare Yoga Pants and Vuori Halo Essential Tank enough — I’ve been wearing them for a few weeks now and have never felt a garment so silky soft.

  • AnrabessTwo-Piece Sweater Set , $40 (originally $50)
  • Anrabess Sleeveless Ruffle Linen Matching Set , $40 (originally $50)
  • PrAna Heavana 7/8 Leggings , $89

  • Aerie Offline Fleece Hoodie , $49 (originally $70)
  • Vuori Halo Slim Flare Yoga Pants , $108
  • Vuori Halo Essential Tank , $58
  • Free People Hailee Sweater Set , $128
  • Lillusory Women's Oversized Sweater Set , $62 (originally $77)

Florals All Day

While this may not appear to be a shocker, as florals always seem to align with the arrival of spring, but I’m seeing tons of tops, dresses, and bottoms adorned with stunning flowery imagery. Go for statement florals with delicately designed options like this Maeve Cap-Sleeve Sweater from Anthropologie (that I personally can’t stop wearing) or opt for an entire meadow with options like two-in-one Hermoza Rachel Skirt Dress that can also be worn as a dress (amazing, right?). There’s no shortage of florals this season, and if you’re looking to add a few statement pieces to your collection, keep reading for some of my top picks.

  • Maeve Cap-Sleeve Sweater , $98
  • Gola Classics Women's Bullet Floral Sneakers , $85
  • Hermoza Rachel Skirt Dress , $168
  • Shewin Women's Floral Blouse , $29 (originally $31)
  • PrettyGarden Women's Floral Midi Dress , $55

  • Lands' End Cotton Dobby Smocked Dress With Ruffle Straps , $100
  • Abercrombie Crinkle Textured Pull-On Pants , $80
  • Rails Nessie Top in Indigo Blossoms , $198

High-Quality T-Shirts and Tanks

Having comfortable, high-quality garments is a must for any wardrobe, but especially a traveler's. You want your clothes to move with you, not against you, which is why experienced jet-setters always prioritize durable T-shirts and tanks to make packing and getting ready a breeze. I’m doing the same, and have upgraded my old, dingy T-shirts to the high-quality, and durable Mott & Bow The Cotton Boxy Crew Tees , and can genuinely feel the difference. They're the perfect length, feel incredibly soft, and are on constant rotation in my daily and travel outfits. I also personally believe that Uniqlo is the capital of comfortable basics, so be sure to check out its vast catalog of tanks, T-shirts, and more.

Take this resurgence as an opportunity to reevaluate the state of your closet. Do you have reliable, durable tanks and tees that you actually want to wear? If not, take a look at a few of my top selects to replenish your wardrobe with. Oh, and the Everlane The Organic Cotton Cutaway Tank and Everlane The Organic Cotton Box-Cut Tee also have a special promotion where shoppers can score three for the price of two, so if I were you, I’d start there.

  • Mott & Bow The Cotton Boxy Crew Tee , $35
  • Organic Basics Organic Cotton Flex Tee , $24
  • American Giant Classic Cotton Crew Tee , $40
  • Aritzia Tna Hold-It Ortiz T-Shirt , $30
  • Vuori Pose Fitted Tee , $58
  • Nordstrom Pima Cotton Slub Crewneck T-Shirt , $35
  • Madewell LakeshorE Softfade Cotton Crop Tee , $28

  • Uniqlo Soft Ribbed Crew Neck Short-Sleeve T-Shirt , $15
  • Everlane The Organic Cotton Cutaway Tank , $30
  • Everlane The Organic Cotton Box-Cut Tee , $30
  • Long Wharf Supply Women's Seawell Pocket Tee , $48

Denim Renaissance

I can’t pinpoint when it exactly happened, but denim is back and it's better than ever. It's not like the fabric ever technically left the fashion scene, but retailers and designers are putting it at the forefront of their catalogs, highlighting the timeless power that a great pair of jeans, a denim jacket, or a jumpsuit has. And while you may be a bit hesitant to consider denim as a travel-friendly material, trust me when I say that it’s more comfortable than ever.

I’m including a few of my favorite denim pieces right now, complete with the Ziggy Overalls from Free People that have such a soft feel (pictured below) and my new go-to Rails Jean Skirt ; the California-based brand prioritizes crafting high-quality garments that are made to last. I’ve also included a few more denim pieces that I’m planning on wearing this season, including the Wrangler Women’s Corset Jumpsuit and my favorite pair of jeans from Uniqlo that hug all of my curves and feel more like a pair of comfy sweatpants rather than stiff denim.

  • Ziggy Overalls , $98
  • Rails Brentwood Jean Skirt , $168
  • Lands' End Women's High Rise Cargo Utility Cargos , $90
  • Wrangler Women’s Corset Jumpsuit , $150
  • Mavi Miracle Wide Leg Jeans , $138
  • Uniqlo Wide Straight Jeans , $50
  • Abercrombie Curve Love High Rise Wide-Leg Jeans , $90
  • Omoone Oversized Denim Jacket , $34 (originally $39)
  • Amanda Uprichard Fae Denim Dress , $246
  • Lee Women's Mid-Rise Boyfriend Jeans , $29 (originally $43)

Wearable Workwear

Between last month’s New York Fashion Week and witnessing the rise of tailored trousers, crisp button-up blouses, and smart blazers being represented beyond the office, it’s clear that workwear style is here to stay. This trend also happens to be easy to adapt into your travel wardrobe (especially if you're always traveling for work), and if you don’t know where to start, I’ve got you covered with a few comfortable, easy-wearing options.

I recently tried the best-selling Spanx Perfect Pants (that you can see me styling with M.M. La Fleur's The Tatum Top below) and am in awe of how comfortable and flattering they feel and look. I’m also considering buying the Open Edit Plaid Bracelet Sleeve Blazer , especially while it's on sale for $50 to add a touch of sophistication to any look. There are plenty of other fantastic options, including the Madewell Long-Sleeve Button-Up Shirt and Abercrombie Crisp Ultra Wide-Leg Trousers , so keep reading to see those and more.

  • Spanx the Perfect Pant: Slim Straight , $148
  • Open Edit Plaid Bracelet Sleeve Blazer , $50 (originally $79)
  • Tronjori Palazzo Trousers , $34
  • Madewell Long-Sleeve Button-Up Shirt , $60 (originally $85)

  • M.M.La Fleur The Tatum Top , $265

Color Me Blue

Dagne Dover

I don’t know if it's the resurgence of sunny, blue skies, but all of the most stylish people in the city are embracing the color blue this season. Whether it be in vibrant or soft shades, the hue can be found in a variety of clothing items such as dresses, vests, accessories, and more; there’s really something for everyone to opt into this season. You can see me styling my favorite Armour Vert Tabitha Cardigan below, but I also can’t wait to get my hands on the Dagne Dover Ace Neoprene Fanny Pack in Deep Sea — just as I’m eyeing the Aritzia Contour Squareneck Bodysuit in that same deep, royal blue.

  • Dagne Dover Ace Neoprene Fanny Pack in Deep Sea , $95
  • Armour Vert Tabitha Cardigan , $195
  • Open Edit Waistcoat Vest , $60
  • Aritzia Contour Squareneck Bodysuit , $48
