liturgy australian tour

A self-described ‘transcendental black metal’ group, New York City’s Liturgy has broken boundaries and unintentionally provoked the purity of the genre at every step of its prolific and wildly experimental lifespan. Led by singer/guitarist Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix since 2005, Liturgy’s evolution from solo project to band has seen the challenging spiritual upheaval of their music push into a dazzling array of progressive and experimental dimensions.

Nowhere has their fearless approach to discarding convention been more apparent than on this year’s ‘ 93696 ’ album – an intricate and indulgent splattering of complex riffs, chaotic percussive fury, glitched-out electronic peaks, and atypical orchestration, all intelligently perforated by Haela’s soul-piercing shrieks.

Following performances at this year’s prestigious Arctangent and Primavera Sound festivals, Liturgy will debut in Australia for the first time with three exclusive headline shows this November with support from Melbourne’s acclaimed metal-edged noise musician Uboa .

More Liturgy

New York’s “transcendental black metal” outfit Liturgy  are making their way to Australia for the very first time this November, with support from Melbourne’s acclaimed metal-edged noise musician, Uboa .

Stretching the bounds of black metal as we know it, Liturgy refuse to be pigeonholed. Pulling from elements of hip-hop, opera (particularly 2020’s Origin Of The Alimonies ), progressive rock and electronic music, the US group will be promoting their latest record, 93696 , released in March this year.

Originally the solo project of Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix (vocals, guitar since 2005), she expanded Liturgy to a four-piece band in 2008. The group currently consists of Hunt-Hendrix, guitarist Mario Miron , bassist Tia Vincent-Clark  and drummer Leo Didkovsky .

In the description of a YouTube video by Hunt-Hendrix on the nature of Liturgy’s description as a “metal” band, she writes that she “believe[s] that the highest respect you can show someone is to make contact with the essence of their art in a way that fractures their own beliefs about what is most important about it. I don't think metal is about having and upholding the status of heroes from previous generations.”

Playing black metal shouldn’t be about endlessly paying homage to Fenriz , Ihsahn  or Euronymous , Hunt-Hendrix argues. Rather, it should be about appropriating what you like from these bands and combining it with other things in ways that are truly unique, that actually risk making a statement.

As she says, “using metal as a material rather than a form”. You can check out Kill Your Stereo ’s ten-year retrospective article on Liturgy’s infamous Aesthethica  here .

Nowhere has Liturgy’s fearless approach to discarding convention been more apparent than on this year’s 93696  – an intricate and indulgent sharing of complex riffs, chaotic percussive fury, glitched-out electronic peaks, and atypical orchestration, all intelligently balanced by Hunt-Hendrix’s soul-piercing shrieks.

Following performances at this year’s prestigious Arctangent and Primavera Sound festivals, Liturgy will debut in Australia for the first time with three exclusive headline shows.

Australian Lectionary

liturgy australian tour

Includes the official texts from the Jerusalem Bible and Grail Psalms used in Catholic parishes across Australia. Matches the official texts used in other countries such as England, Scotland and Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, India, Singapore and South Africa.

This new 2020 edition, although still retaining the official text, has been extensively modified to break up the solid blocks of text that the original ectionary included. It made sense to save space and print an already enormous document in a smaller printed volume. But this decision has not aided the worshipping community. This Lectionary text above all others, which is designed to be proclaimed by readers and lectors of varying ability and competence, must be designed to make the living word of God come alive and allow readers to retain their place and understand the structure and intent of the original sacred authors. Large blocks of text have been broken down into smaller units, often of a single sentence or two. The main feature of this edition is to indent all sections of direct speech. This allows the more dynamic nature of the gospels especially to be highlighted. The Jerusalem Bible text from 1966 is not designed to highlight the narrative and dialogical dynamics of the various voices that interact. Nevertheless the church teaches us that the scriptures form a significant and primary part of the communication that God is drawing us into. Anything that aids this communication and allows for a more complete participation in the sacred mystery is to be commended.

No police charges for Taylor Swift's dad over paparazzi incident in Sydney

Taylor Swift’s father will not be charged over a photographer's claim that Scott Swift assaulted him on the Sydney waterfront hours after the pop star’s Australian tour ended last month

SYDNEY -- Taylor Swift’s father will not be charged over a paparazzi photographer's claim that Scott Swift assaulted him on the Sydney waterfront hours after the pop star’s Australian tour ended last month.

Photographer Ben McDonald had alleged that one of Swift’s security guards forced an umbrella into his face and camera and that Scott Swift then punched him at the Neutral Bay Wharf, where the father and daughter had just come ashore from a yacht Feb. 27.

Taylor Swift’s representatives responded by accusing members of the media of aggression during the interaction.

Police began investigating the incident at the time and announced Wednesday that “no further police action” would be taken.

"No offences were detected, and the investigation was concluded with no further police action required,” said the statement from the New South Wales Police Force.

More than 600,000 fans saw the Australian leg of her Eras Tour at seven Australian stadium concerts.

Her tour shattered records when it reportedly surpassed $1 billion last year, and her film adaptation of the tour quickly took No. 1 at the box office and became the highest-grossing concert film to date.

How to watch the the Houston Open 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the tournament locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the tournament. So if your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, nonblackout area. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming the Houston Open 2024 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble getting the tournament after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .
