Dynafit Tour 88 2018-19

dynafit tour

The Tour 88s from Dynafit seem to fit somewhere beneath their Race, Speed and Free ranges and without that apparent specialism, we can't help concluding that this should actually be labelled a recreational ski. OK, ski touring requires a certain competency level, but the Tour 88s aren't only for experts. Perhaps those dipping an enthusiastic toe into the uphill arts would be the ideal audience.

Our first impression is that the Tour 88s are ugly as sin. Pure 80s sci-fi, designed for Ripley in Aliens in her deleted ski-scene.

But that might suit the MAMILs who have a natural affinity to the brand. Second impressions were predictable; lightweight climbing focus. So far so Dynafit.

And on the downhill the expectations weren't exactly shattered either. If you ski the Tour 88s from the centre - ie pivoting turns - they are surprisingly stable. But they will not carve, and will barely hold you upright unless your balance is absolutely spot on centred. They are so light that the tips are easily deflected, so no good in chop, and they don't have the float for soft snow.

Essentially these are skis for alpinists or for fitness, and in that sense they're great. But there are now so many skis that can tick those boxes, whilst also providing a comfortable, stable, even fun descent, that you're left wondering whom the Tour 88 is for.

Ready to rip? So is the Ripstick Tour 88 - a lighter weight, backcountry friendly take on Elan's popular Ripstick line. With an 88mm waist, this piece of eye candy is ready for some winter or spring laps where conditions may vary from powder to corn to crud. The smaller turning radius brings this ski around quickly, which comes in handy in trees, couloirs, and anywhere else you want to keep those turns tight! Carbon sheets are a dime a dozen, but Elan's Carbon Bridge Technology is a fun twist on the theme. Utilizing a carbon tube that runs down the center of the ski you get less vibration and a more progressive flex. Buttery smooth turns are compliments of the Amphibio profile that creates a rockered profile edge to edge for better control and easier transitions into and out of that figure 8 you and your ski partner are making. The full 360° pyramid-shaped ABS sidewall is great for performance and durability, but we discourage anyone from pinballing off rocks as a way to test this feature. Turn up the tunes and get excited to ski the Elan Ripstick Tour 88 because it's meant to rip it - and rip it good.

  • Amphibio profile* leads to smoother turns that are easy like Sunday morning.
  • Carbon Bridge Technology is a lightweight solution to creating a damper and confidence-inspiring ski.
  • Full 360° pyramid-shaped ABS sidewall increases durability and smooths out the ride.
  • 2 layers of carbon reinforcement increase torsional stiffness and make for a smoother flex underfoot.

* Please note you will have a left and a right ski with the Amphibio technology.

Updates 2023/24: Same construction down to the core, but a classy new topsheet and different lengths!

Peak Bagger

The Elan Ripstick Tour 88 is the ski that the touring world has been waiting for. Lightweight, floaty, fast, stable, strong, and versatile - all at the same time.

Designed with our freeride athletes and guides that demand perfection everywhere they go, it's ground-breaking construction has allowed us to drop the weight to a minimum and push performance to the maximum, while maintaining a playful feel for all aspects of the journey. This 88mm waisted ski is very light and easy to maneuver, yet deftly capable, making it a true modern touring ski.

The free touring segment is the trend in alpinism; combining light equipment that performs in powder and remains stable in variable conditions is essential. The Ripstick Tour 88 is the perfect waist to feel confident on descents and narrow enough to enjoy comfortable, long uphill ascents, making it the sweet spot for touring skis. At approximately 1250 g per ski in length 170 cm we've targeted the optimal weight for a touring ski, without sacrificing downhill stability and performance. When paired with the 305 g C-RAIDER tech binding and Ripstick Tour 88 skin, there is a complete, lightweight package, that will perform and inspire. With carefully designed CARBON BRIDGE TECHNOLOGY, we implemented a carbon rod reinforcement to connect the energy of the ski for a smooth feel with playful rebound. The length of the reinforcement is designed to exact measures to reduce vibration and tip chatter. A reduced sidewall shape gives the ski a unique look with functional weight reduction, while full sidewalls increase edge pressure and contact. With a freeride profile and shape, we've assured this is the perfect combination of weight to performance ratio for all skiers, in any conditions found in the backcountry.

Product details : Elan Ripstick Tour 88 22/23 Skitouring Skis Men

The new Elan Ripstick Tour 88 was developed for ski tourers, with the aim of the outstanding downhill performance of a freeride ski and at the same time the fraction of the weight for an energy-saving ascent.

The entire series was designed from the ground up with the intention of maximizing performance without losing focus on the functionality required for pleasant ascents. In order to unite these two worlds, we developed the Carbon Bridge technology; a revolutionary innovation in which a carbon tube is integrated on the ski. It not only increases stability at high speeds, but also absorbs vibrations in the shovel, especially in changing terrain, without making the ski heavier.

The new Elan Ripstick Tour 88 comes with a universal waist width of 88mm and is therefore suitable for all types of terrain and conditions. With him, the boundaries between high performance and lightweight construction are blurring. The perfect mix of downhill performance and efficient ascent properties. The Ripstick Tour 88 was created for two things: mastering long climbs and challenging descents.

Features: • Most efficient uphill performance • Best Edge Grip • Nimble Turn Entry & Exit • Playful Rebound • Lightest Weight

Details: • Carbon Bridge Technology • 360 Sidewall • laminated woodcore • Carbon Reinforcement • Fibreglass • Profile: Amphibio

Carbon Bridge  Carbon Bridge Technology, is a revolutionary solution where a single carbon rod placed on the upper part of the ski, provides stability, dampening, and vibration absorption through the tip.

360° Sidewall 360° Sidewall is a unique and effective sidewall solution to maximize performance while keeping the weight low. Pyramidal shaped sidewall are positioned throughout the whole body of the ski, to increase vibration absorption and high-speed stability.

Amphibio Profile Amphibio technology is a revolutionary ski design that integrates both rocker and camber profiles into dedicated left and right skis. Amphibio skis feature a cambered inside edge assuring precision, edge grip and stability - while a rockered outside edge provides forgiveness, turning ease and smooth transitions.

Tip-to-Tail Laminated Woodcore This tip-to-tail Laminated Woodcore is specially shaped for each model and size. Using different wood types in various combinations allows for the adjustment of the flex pattern for different types of performance. This extremely responsive and highly durable wood core transmits power directly to the edges and excels in a variety of conditions.

Carbon Carbon is a lightweight and strong material that provides additional support and reinforcement in the part where needed the most.

Fiberglass Fiberglass reinforcement optimizes the flex pattern and enhances torsional rigidity of the ski. The fiberglass is positioned either above or below the ski core and improves a skis structual integrity.

Elan Ripstick 88 Skis Review

Last Updated: December 5, 2023 by Chris

Elan Ripstick 88 2024 Ski Review

You could certainly argue the case that this is an all-mountain ski, and you wouldn’t be wrong. It was in between for us, but we decided to put it into this category.

Like with all our reviews the Ripstick 88 will receive a score out of 100, reflective of the performance of the ski as a piste ski.

Overall Rating

Skis: Elan Ripstick 88

Price: $699

Style: Piste (aka All-Mountain Carving/Frontside)

Manufacturer’s Flex Rating: not specified

SKI Profiles’ Flex Feel: Medium (6/10)

Rating Score:  85.0/100

Who Does the Ripstick 88 Suit Best?

The Ripstick 88 is for those who want a piste ski to spend most of their time on groomed runs, riding this ski to its strengths like carving, speed and the occasional mogul or tree run.

For some this ski could work as your one-quiver-ski especially if you don't see deeper snow conditions too often as it can handle moderate amounts of fresh snow. But it's not going to be your next powder ski by any means

Jump wise the Ripstick 88 can handle itself considering it has flat tails and lots of taper. It does however have a considerable amount of pop making smaller jumps and side hits very enjoyable.

This ski is for higher intermediates to advanced riders. They aren't incredibly stiff but they are still a more aggressive ski that is fairly maneuverable at slow-high speeds. We wouldn't recommend it to any beginner skiers but if you are anywhere from a intermediate to advanced skier looking for a piste, bordering on all-mountain, ski these could be for you.

2023 Elan Ripstick 88 Review

The Ripstick 88 felt semi-locked in cutting into groomed or icy runs with minimal effort, while also feeling consistent and quick from edge-to-edge.

Overall they felt damp and were lighter than expected which, with a little effort, made them nice and snappy as well

Tip Flex: Overall softest part of the ski. Not by much but still noticeable. 5.5/10

Tail Flex: Slightly stiffer then the underfoot flex.  6.5/10

Underfoot Flex: 6/10

Really great edge hold cuts right into hard/icy conditions with ease.

Weight Feel

When holding in hand they felt pretty average weight-wise but once on the snow and skiing they felt lighter than normal.

Weight on scales:  2840grams (6lbs 4oz) - for one ski with bindings

Playful or Aggressive?

More playful than expected and surprisingly easy to press. Overall somewhere in the middle between playful and aggressive - a nice happy medium. Definitely a little softer underfoot than the Ripstick 96.

Unfortunately no powder to test in but based off of the specs they would be not great but manageable.

Slightly stiffer tail will sink in deeper snow allowing the nose to rise up. That plus a good amount of taper (25mm) along with the tip and tail rocker will help. It's not a wide ski so it won't float super well in powder but it is manageable for moderate powder day's.

Great at holding an edge, allowing you to make deep aggressive carves with ease. Best for medium to long carves.

Ease of Turns

Even with the stiffer more aggressive profile, these skis make turning somewhat effortless. The tails are easy to release and fully capable of slashes.

The Ripstick 88 aren't as fast as the Ripstick 96 but they can hold their own at speed and feel just as stable overall.

Overall preformed pretty well.

POP (ease of access): Not super difficult but also not the easiest. Definitely requires some effort to extract the pop from them.

POP (total pop): Lot's of pop in these.  Like we said, it requires a bit of effort but they have plenty to give when you do put that effort in.

APPROACH: Pretty stable on the approach but still have the ability to make last second adjustments' when needed.

LANDINGS: Tails are softer than the Ripstick 96, making them a little less forgiving if you land tail heavy.

SIDE HITS: Good maneuverability allows you to approach side hits confidently knowing you can make last second adjustments if required. Lot's of pop underfoot makes them a great time as well.

Uneven Terrain

The Ripstick 88 excels at smashing through crud and maneuvering in uneven terrain on groomed runs. Even when caught off guard, the ski made corrections quickly and with ease.

Due to the lightness and maneuverability, the ski handled smoothly allowing you to whip it around moguls pretty effortlessly.

Their lightness and maneuverability also allow the Ripstick 88 to perform well in the trees. But due to their lack of width they will be pretty average if there's powder.

Not the ideal ski for riding switch (backwards)- not surprising due to the combination of the flat tails and 25mm of taper.

SCORE BREAKDOWN

The Ripstick 88 excels at carving up groomed runs on a crisp bluebird morning. They can also hold their own in the trees, moguls and the occasional side hit or jump in the park.

They sit nicely in the middle on flex overall while still having more of a piste profile making them fast and maneuverable.

And really impressive edge hold! Just like the Ripstick 96 except with snapper tails on the 88. Both models feel light on feet yet are stiff and powerful enough to blast through variable conditions. For a more playful option I would go with the Ripstick 88 over the 96. Both are great choices for an all mountain one ski quiver, with the 88 being more frontside oriented than the 96.

What’s at stake for top five at the Masters?

Change Text Size

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The winds that buffeted Augusta National for the first two rounds of the Masters abated, but low scores were still hard to find on Saturday. That leaves a tight leaderboard for the final round, when the tournament traditionally breaks out the hole locations that encourage birdies and eagles.

It is a recipe for a classic Masters finish where the action is condensed into the final nine holes of the week and memorable Masters moments are created. With the top eight names on the leaderboard separated by just five shots, there are still plenty of potential winners of this year’s Masters.

Scottie Scheffler, seeking his second Masters win in the past three years, holds a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa. Max Homa is two back, followed by Ludvig Åberg and Bryson DeChambeau, who are three and four shots back, respectively.

Here’s a look at the five players with the most at stake entering Sunday’s final round:

1. Scottie Scheffler (first, 7-under)

On the morning of his Masters win two years ago, Scheffler was overwhelmed by the immensity of the moment. He was brought to tears, and his wife Meredith gave him an inspirational speech that helped him face that final round.

“Meredith and I were just a little bit emotional about what was going on at the time because our lives were changing at a very rapid pace,” Scheffler said Saturday. “Now I think we have settled more into where our lives are at. … Things are a lot different now, and I feel like we've both matured.”

Still, a victory Sunday would be the continuation of an incredible stretch of golf. He has a win and two runners-up in his past three starts. He went back-to-back at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and THE PLAYERS Championship, two tournaments he’s won previously, before finishing second at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

Scheffler could join Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win multiple Masters and PLAYERS titles. He’s also looking to join Woods, Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Horton Smith as the only players to win multiple Masters before turning 28.

It's almost unfortunate that Scheffler’s run will soon be interrupted. But bigger things await him and his wife.

2. Collin Morikawa (second, 6-under)

Morikawa won the first major he played after turning pro, the 2020 PGA Championship, and added another one at the next year’s Open Championship. He was just 24 years old and already owned five PGA TOUR titles, including those two majors.

Something changed after he returned from a tournament in Dubai in 2022, however. He said he’s been “searching” ever since, trying to find that old form. Once the second-ranked player in the world, he is now No. 20.

He won the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP last fall to end a two-year winless drought, a victory that was preceded by his move to swing coach Mark Blackburn. Morikawa has been inconsistent this year, a T5 at the season-opening The Sentry his only top-10 of the season. He finished 75th last week at the Valero Texas Open, but said he found an important swing thought during a lengthy range session on Monday. Then he switched putters after the first round , returning to a replica of a familiar flatstick.

“Sometimes you're searching, and I had to search,” Morikawa said. “You have to find something. You know, where my game was last week, if I took it out here, first few days, I probably wouldn't be here. I probably wouldn't be playing today. So you have to find something.

A Masters win would give Morikawa three legs of the career Grand Slam at age 27. And re-establish him as a major force.

3. Max Homa (third, 5-under)

Homa is one of the most popular players in the game. He’s also one of its best, owner of six PGA TOUR titles and ranked 11th in the world. His record in major championships (just one top-10) does not live up to his other accomplishments, however. That could change Sunday. This is his best opportunity to win a major championship, and it would be a life-changer.

Homa’s green jacket tour would be pretty epic, and it would definitely make for some strong social-media content. One of the most open players in the game, he would surely give his fans an unvarnished look behind the scenes of life as a Masters champion. A win this week also would come after playing the first two rounds alongside his hero, Tiger Woods. The only other time they were paired, Homa missed the cut at the 2022 Open Championship at St. Andrews.

“I’m going to remind myself I’m a dog and I’m ready for this moment,” Homa said Saturday evening. He has the opportunity to prove it once again.

4. Ludvig Åberg (fourth, 4-under)

No better major to win than your first one. Aberg has the opportunity to do that Sunday. He will start the final round just three off the lead, and he seems ready for the moment.

“I think about it all the time,” he said. “I'm okay thinking about it. Obviously I'm a competitor and I want to win tournaments. I feel very fortunate to be in this position and to be here playing golf.

“I don't think you should shy away from it. I don't think you should try to push it away. I try to embrace it, and I try to be okay with all that comes with it.”

Åberg and Collin Morikawa were the only players to shoot under par in both the second and third rounds. Åberg, who turned pro less than a year ago, has already starred in a Ryder Cup, in addition to his wins on the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour, and is a top-10 player in the world. To win a major so soon would put his career on an incredible trajectory. “The Best Player to Never Win a Major” is one of the game’s most detested labels, but Åberg wouldn’t have to ever worry about it if he can win Sunday.

Winning the Masters would make him just the fifth player to win the Masters before turning 25, joining Nicklaus, Woods, Ballesteros and Jordan Spieth.

5. Bryson DeChambeau (fifth, 3-under)

DeChambeau is the game’s ultimate scientist. A Masters win would show that his methods can triumph at the course that requires the most artistry in the game.

DeChambeau famously declared Augusta National a “par 67” back when he was at his beefiest, reasoning that all the par 5s were actually par 4s for him (with the short par-4 third actually a par 3 for him). In that light, it makes his Masters showings even more worrisome. His best finish at the Masters came when he finished T21 as an amateur. He’s missed the cut in his previous two trips to Augusta National, as well.

DeChambeau had a roller-coaster final 11 holes Saturday. He made just two pars, playing that stretch in 2-over par with four birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey (at the par-5 15th). His birdie at the final hole Saturday kept Scheffler within reach, however, putting DeChambeau four back. DeChambeau was the first-round leader after shooting 65 on Thursday, but he has followed with rounds of 73 and 75.

A win also would extend DeChambeau’s expected stay in major championships. Due to his win in the 2020 U.S. Open, he is exempt in the Masters, PGA Championship and The Open through 2025, and the U.S. Open through 2030. A victory would mean a lifetime exemption into the Masters and five more years into The Open and PGA Championship.

DeChambeau deserves credit for yet another transformation of his body. He still is one of the strongest players in the game but has slimmed down dramatically from five years ago. He’s proven he’ll do whatever it takes to be elite, and a win Sunday would be further confirmation of his continued quest for improvement.

On Friday, she surprised fans at Coachella when she appeared during Bizarrap’s set to perform their global smash hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” and “La Fuerte,” both featured on her new album. Before exiting the stage, Shakira teased the tour news to a roaring crowd .

Coachella marks the second time in the last month that Shakira has surprised fans with a showstopping performance.

Last month, following the album release, Shakira shut down New York City’s Times Square, giving a crowd of more than 40,000 fans a peek into the energy of her live shows when she performed at the TSX Stage.

The performance included such iconic hits as “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Te Felicito/TQG” and “Session 53,” as well as “Puntería” and “Cómo Dónde y Cuándo” from her new album.

Bureau of Land Management offers public tour of Winnemucca Off-Range Corrals on May 16 and 17, 2024

Event coordinator, event dates, event description.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host free public tours of the Winnemucca Off-Range Wild Horse and Burro Corral located in Paradise Valley, Nevada, on Thursday May 16 and Friday, May 17, 2024. Attendees will have the opportunity to view wild horses gathered from overpopulated herds in Nevada, California, and the recently gathered animals from the East Pershing Complex.

The privately owned and operated corral is located outside of Winnemucca, Nev. in Paradise Valley, which is approximately a 30-minute drive north of Winnemucca. There will be two days of tours with two public tours offered each day. The daily tours are to begin at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and each will last about two hours and accommodate up to 20 people on each tour.

To register for a tour and get driving directions to the facility, please contact the BLM at (775) 475-2222. A waiting list will be set up should the attendee number reach 40 people each day.

“The BLM is responsible for managing and maintaining healthy wild horse and burro populations on public lands and providing humane care and treatment to animals removed from public lands which are temporarily held in off-range corral facilities pending final disposition to adoption or sale events, or to off-range pastures. I encourage all who are interested to sign up for this public tour to see the newest constructed off-range corral facility in Nevada, along with the animals, and the care that is provided for them,” stated John Neill, Wild Horse and Burro Facility Operations Manager.

Tour attendees will be taken as a group by wagon around the facility to view the animals and learn about the facility and the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro program. Attendees should wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Hats and sunscreen are recommended, and photography is welcome. An on-site portable toilet will be available.

The Winnemucca Off-range Corrals can provide care for up to 4,000 wild horses or burros. The facility encompasses 100 acres containing 42 large holding pens, each measuring 70,000-75,000 square feet that will safely hold about 100 horses. The animals receive an abundance of feed tailored to their needs each day, along with a constant supply of fresh water through automatic watering troughs. Free choice mineral block supplements are also provided to the animals in each pen. A veterinarian routinely inspects the animals and provides necessary care as needed.

BLM strives to place wild horses and burros removed from public lands into good, private homes. Animals at the Winnemucca Off-range Corral are made available to the public for adoption or purchase throughout the year at off-site adoption and sale events and through BLM’s Online Corral website.

  1. Dynafit Tour 88 Review

We weighed the Tour 88 to be 1355 grams per ski. We consider all-around backcountry skis to weigh between roughly 1250 and 1450 grams per ski. These are right in that sweet spot. 6. Dynafit Tour 88 2018-19 review

The Tour 88s from Dynafit seem to fit somewhere beneath their Race, Speed and Free ranges and without that apparent specialism, we can't help concluding that this should actually be labelled a recreational ski.
