More recently, Badu reunited with The Roots on their new track “Misunderstood” featuring fellow Philadelphian Tierra Whack, and made a surprise appearance on BTS’ member RM’s song “Yun,” which opened his critically acclaimed solo effort Indigo .
And speaking of The Roots, former Black Star member Bey will appear on Black Thought’s forthcoming solo record, Streams of Thought Vol. 4 .
The MC shared that the track will “represent a seismic shift in the game,” and has apparently been sitting on the track for a few years.

The 25-city string of dates begins on June 11 in San Antonio and continues with stops in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Detroit, Boston, and back to Dallas for the final gig on July 23.
Badu will be joined by longtime friend and collaborator Yasin Bey. The two have appeared together in concert as well as in movies like Dave Chappelle’s Block Party and often traveled in the same musical circles.

And Bey is one-half of the rap duo Black Star with his Brooklyn-born friend Talib Kweli. Bey’s solo album, Black on Both Sides , is considered a classic.
Tickets for the shows go on sale Thursday (April 20) at 2:22 p.m. local time via Ticketmaster .

Last month, she also called out for those on the right-wing for racism in their criticism of the “woke” slogan .
When asked about the term being co-opted by the right wing, she responded: “I think they mean ‘Black.’ Yeah. That’s just another way to say ‘thug,’ or something else, right?”
The singer added: “It is what it is, it doesn’t belong to us anymore. And once something goes out into the world, it takes a life of its own. It has an energy of its own. I can tell you what ‘woke’ means. It means being aware, being in alignment with nature…”
The neo-soul singer’s most recent album was her 2015 mixtape ‘But You Caint Use My Phone’ .

Erykah Badu has announced a summer tour with Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), coming to Charlotte in July
April 17, 2023
Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Erykah Badu has announced a 25-city U.S. tour with rapper and longtime friend, Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def. The tour will kick off in Badu’s home state of Texas and arrive in Charlotte at Spectrum Center of July 16. Badu’s debut multi-platinum album, Baduizm , released in 1997, was both a critical and commercial success, establishing her as pioneer in the genre of neo-soul. She released her last full-length music project, But You Caint Use My Phone, in 2015.
Bey released the long-awaited second Black Star album with Talib Kweli, No Fear of Time, on May 3, 2022 exclusively through the podcast platform Luminary, the duo’s first full-length release in 24 years, which was entirely produced by Madlib. In 2021, he also launched The Midnight Miracle podcast on Luminary alongside Kweli and Dave Chappelle.
Badu and Bey were a part of the ’90s experimental Black music collective Soulquarians with Questlove, D’Angelo, James Poyser, Q Tip, and J Dilla.
Presale begins April 19 at 10 a.m. (APPLETREE122) and tickets go on sale to the general public starting April 20 at 2:22 p.m .

Erykah Badu launches tour with Mos Def
Born and raised in the three-states border town of Atlanta in NETX; grew up in the offices of the local newspaper where my mother worked. My first articles were published at the age of 12. I have since worked in radio, print media, and hosted my own cable-television interview show on KAQC. My specialty has turned out to be personal profile feature stories, and photography. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to meet and interview such notables as Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Artimus Pyle and Dolly Parton, as well as many others.

Music and concerts, music and concerts | erykah badu to play the x with the rapper formerly known as mos def, tickets go on sale at 2:22 p.m. thursday through ticketmaster..
Grammy-winning R&B star Erykah Badu will hit the road for a 25-date summer tour that lands at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center on June 30.
Tickets go on sale at 2:22 p.m. Thursday through Ticketmaster. Neither the promoter nor the venue announced prices. Yasiin Bey, the rapper formerly known as Mos Def, is also on the bill.
Born Erica Abi Wright in Dallas, Badu began her career with her 1997 debut “Baduizm,” which spawned four hits, including the chart-toppers “On and On” and “Next Lifetime.” The album went triple platinum, earned four Grammy nominations and two wins, for best female R&B vocal performance and best R&B album. Badu – along with Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo and Maxwell – is credited as a key figure in the neo soul genre.
Badu went on to release four more albums and land hits with “Tyrone,” “Bag Lady,” “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop)” and “Window Seat.”
Since the 2010 release of her fifth album, “New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh),” Badu has largely steered clear of releasing new solo music beyond her 2015 mixtape “But You Caint Use My Phone.” She has, however, done a series of guest spots on songs from Janelle Monae, Flying Lotus, Robert Glasper and the Flaming Lips.
Yasiin Bey rose to fame as Mos Def. He has released a series of solo albums as well as numerous collaborations. In 1998, he formed the duo Black Star with Talib Kweli and issued the acclaimed debut “Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star.” After several delays, the pair issued the follow-up, “No Fear of Time,” last year.
Bey also has a side career in acting, which he began at the age of 14 when he appeared in the ABC movie “God Bless the Child” alongside Mare Winningham. He has since starred in numerous films and television shows, including “Bamboozled,” “Carmen: A Hip Hopera,” “Something the Lord Made,” “The Boondocks,” “House” and “Dexter.”
In 2011, Bey announced he had legally changed his name, telling one reporter “I began to fear that Mos Def was being treated as a product, not a person, so I’ve been going by Yasiin since ’99. At first it was just for friends and family, but now I’m declaring it openly.”

The rapper once known as Mos Def may have to fork over nearly $100,000 in earnings from an upcoming show to pay off his baby mama’s attorney fees from their child-support battle, court papers show.
The musician, who has used the name Yasiin Bey since 2011, has six kids from four different women , and is set to open for Erykah Badu on her upcoming tour.
One of the moms, Paris-based Karima Sorel, wants the $88,602.63 she says Bey owes and is going straight to tour backers Live Nation, Ticketmaster, Outback Presents LLC and BaduWorld Inc to get it.
A law firm representing Sorel wants a Manhattan judge to enforce the judgment against Bey and require the companies to turn over his earnings to pay off the debt, according to the legal filing.
Badu’s “Unfollow Me” tour kicks off June 11 in San Antonio and hits Madison Square Garden July 8. Bey is the “On & On” singer’s opening act for all 25 tour dates.
“This matter arises out of protracted child support proceedings in Family Court between Karima Sorel . . . and the child’s father,” according to the Manhattan Supreme Court papers, which notes Bey’s current address is unknown to Sorel.
Bey was required to pay Sorel’s attorney fees in March 2020 after the Brooklyn Family Court knocked his “persistent refusal to pay child support,” records show.
Live Nation and a rep for Mos Def could not immediately be reached for comment.
