Earlier this year, the former Police frontman, 72, teamed up with Billy Joel  for a string of co-headlining shows . At their first show together in Tampa, Florida, the two rock legends surprised the crowd by joining each other for The Police’s “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and Joel’s “Big Man on Mulberry Street.”

According to the fan-recorded  videos , Sting played his headlining set first, which Joel introduced and then stayed on stage so they could play his opening song together.

“I saw this guy when he came with his band to the States and I was blown away when I saw him — this was in the ‘70s,” the “Piano Man” singer said while introducing the rocker. “I thought he was great then and I think he’s great now. He’s one of my favorite musicians of all time. Please welcome Sting.”

The duo will play three more shows together in San Diego, California on April 13, St. Louis, Missouri on Sept. 27 and San Antonio, Texas on Oct. 25.

Sting to Tour North America as a Trio (Not That One)

By Charisma Madarang

Charisma Madarang

Sting announced that he’ll be hitting the road this fall as part of his Sting 3.0 tour with drummer Chris Maas (who previously collaborated with Mumford & Sons and Maggie Rogers) and guitarist Dominic Miller, his longtime collaborator.

While the frontman won’t heading on a reunion tour with his former Police bandmates, Sting 3.0 promises to celebrate “a new dynamic era showcasing selections from his vast catalog through the urgent lens of a tight three-piece combo.”

Members of Sting’s fan club will get first dibs to pre-sale tickets on  sting.com starting Monday, followed by pre-sales for Citi and American Express members throughout the week. General ticket sales will be available Friday at 10 a.m. local time on the website.

Although Police fans may be hoping for another reunion tour, Sting has said that their 2007/08 tour would only happen once. “When the Police reunited, it had been long enough, and it was the right time to do it,” he told Music Week in a 2023 interview. “And I’m taking credit for that because that was my decision. Doing it again would just be gratuitous and that won’t happen. But we did it, and everyone was happy that mum and dad got back together again and had one last fling.”

Sting performing at London Palladium.

Sting review – still great, but doesn’t he just know it

London Palladium At the first show of a six-night residency, Sting demonstrates he is near peerless as a pop composer – but his jazzy arrangements and self-seriousness irritate

S ting opens his set with Russians, a 1985 single about the cold war that he has reworked and reissued to raise funds for a Ukraine relief charity. “I’ve hardly played it in years, because I thought it wasn’t relevant any more,” he sighs. “But, in light of recent events …”

Accompanied only by a Ukrainian cellist, Yaroslava Trofymchuk, the black-pleather-clad 70-year-old croons the song’s chorus and earnest central message: “Russians love their children too.” He cautions us: “Don’t forget, a lot of brave Russians are protesting against this war.”

It could be mawkish, but Sting carries it off through his evident sincerity and, primarily, its haunting melody, pulled in part from Prokofiev. It is a potent start to the veteran star’s six-night London Palladium residency as part of a Covid-delayed world tour he is simply billing as My Songs.

Sting has always been a divisive figure. Ever since his faux-punk days in the Police he has been a consummate musical craftsman, cleverly weaving trace elements of rock, jazz, reggae and global music styles into punchy pop tunes. The problem? It is all too evident how good he knows he is.

The slickness with which Sting dispenses Police heavyweights Message in a Bottle and Every Little Thing She Does is Magic early in the set topples so easily into smugness. He is prone to distilling these sharp-edged songs, with hooks to hang your hat on, into freeform jazz.

New songs If It’s Love and Rushing Water, from his lockdown album The Bridge, are exquisitely honed exercises in classy, adult rock that long for us to take them as seriously as they take themselves. Sting sporadically glances up from between his cheekbones, to check we appreciate how clever he is being.

There is noodling aplenty. The sprung rhythms of Walking on the Moon segue into Bob Marley’s Get Up Stand Up and Sting looks very, very white. Roxanne remains a masterclass in sublime pop alchemy but cannot emerge unscathed from a bout of sub-Cleo Laine scat-singing.

The sleek menace of Every Breath You Take still resonates 40 years on and, as a composer of infectious pop nuggets, Sting is near-peerless. But you leave the Palladium knowing that if he could eat himself, he would.

Sting has announced the full line-up for the return of the music festival for the first time in almost a decade.

On Saturday, the official Instagram account for the music festival revealed the line-up list for what seems to be the final listing. The list notably misses quite a few big name acts in the form of veteran artists like Beenie Man , Bounty Killer , and others like Agent Sasco , Ding Dong , etc.

However, there are quite a number of younger artists who are no doubt among the hottest in the music game right now, including Skeng , Silk Boss , Jahshii , Jada Kingdom , Valiant, 450, and Bayka.

The other headlining artists are Shane O, Jahvillani, Daddy 1, Malie Don, Kraff, Chris Martin, Govana, Etana, Jamiel, Shaneil Muir, Dovey Magnum, Topmann, Gyptian, Rhumba, YGF Pablo, and Kip Rich.

The event will also see several female artists featured on the line up including Pamputtae, Rebecca, Moyann, Stalk Ashley, Vanessa Bling, Honey Milan, Lanae, and Sita, all set to perform. The other performers include Chris Gayle, Deno, Unknown Gringo, Bonafide, Posh Gad, Laalee, Franco Wildlife, Jafrass, Jupitar from Quna, Brysco, and Droop Lion.

Sting 2022 will be held on December 26 at Plantation Cove, Ocho Rios, in St. Ann, and VIP tickets are going for $15,000, while general admission is $8,000.

Supreme Promotions Limited returning as the promoter for this year’s staging alongside The Sting 2022 management team.

The return of Sting has been viewed with skepticism as many are of the view that the old style of dancehall clashes is not over with. Some of the most memorable Sting moments include clashes between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, Ninja Man and Bounty Killer, and Vybz Kartel and Mavado, to name a few, while others like Lady Saw, Spice and other females have had a chance to solidify their careers and fan bases.

In announcing the return of the festival, the organizers back in July noted that the intention was for the event to maintain the same style.

“Sting is the ultimate Colosseum where lyrical masters unleash their lyrical projectiles with the intention of emerging the ultimate victor,” Sting principal said in a statement.

“[Sting] holds the platinum microphone categorization as the seminal and only true stage for the grooming of young, not-so-young, and popular dancehall artistes in the art of stagecraft and lyrical mastery, before a live and interactive audience.”
