How to Make the Most of Your Tour of the Prescott Campus

Prescott Campus

If you are considering becoming an Eagle, the best way to make your decision is to take a trip to Embry-Riddle’s residential campus in Prescott, Arizona . Campus tours are available year-round, Monday through Friday, and some select Saturdays.

All tours start out with a walking tour through campus that showcases the hands-on labs, the academic buildings, the residence halls, the athletic facilities and the various social gathering areas.

“In order to optimize your time on the Prescott Campus, take advantage of all we have to offer. It would be a good idea to spend more than one day, if you can,” said Director of Admissions Sara Bofferding. “If that’s not a possibility, you can get a good idea of life as an Embry-Riddle student by sitting in on a class, meeting a professor, or even taking in a sporting event in the afternoon or evening.”

Take time to connect

Experience life as a student in Prescott   during your tour and work with the admissions and campus tour staff to attend classes or meet with professors and students while visiting. You can also learn more about student activities, Greek life and clubs, residential halls and the ROTC program during your visit. “Take any opportunity you can to have a well-rounded experience,” said Embry-Riddle senior Kristen Chadwell. “There are so many great clubs and activities on campus that can help prepare you for life after college.”

Visit program highlights

Visit the Aerospace Experimentation and Fabrication Building , the Cyber Intelligence Security Center featuring the Hacker Lab and the Glen Doherty Center for Security and Intelligence studies . View the  STEM Education Center and the Jim and Linda Lee Planetarium and optical and radio telescopes facilities used for on-campus research projects. You will also have the opportunity to join a Q&A session with the Unit Commander of the Air Force ROTC or the Army ROTC. Briefings take place every weekday.

Get your questions answered

Take time to get any questions answered about the admissions process, program requirements, financial aid and scholarships. While visiting, you will have the opportunity to meet with enrollment counselors to get detailed information about their academic opportunities. “Visiting campus is my No. 1 piece of advice that I give to prospective students. This is your chance to learn more about Embry-Riddle, see the campus for yourself, get a sense of what life is like on campus, and to ultimately determine if it’s the right place for you,” said Bofferding. “All the enrollment counselors are here to make sure you get your questions answered and to guide you along the path to becoming an Embry-Riddle student.”

Things To See on an ERAU Campus Visit

It is fall break and I am currently in Alabama visiting Chris. This last fall break of mine, I find myself looking back on other fall breaks. Particularly, the one in high school when I came to tour Riddle. This got me thinking that there were things I wish I knew to go see or ask on my tour. Here they are:

To begin, let’s talk about things to see/do on campus…

  • I wish I had sat in on a class. I did this at Preview Day in the spring, but I think if you are pondering which major to do, try to arrange to sit in on a class. Try to ask before arriving so Admissions can do their best to get you in!
  • Join a flight! Many people do not know this, but if you are considering pursuing a flight major, try to observe a flight. Weather or aircraft availability may prevent you from being able to take an observer flight, but if you can, you will get a taste for how prestigious our program is and also have a blast with the scenic views. Dress code for observing flights requires long pants and closed toe shoes. Come dressed appropriately and ask about an observer flight when you visit campus!
  • Try the food. I think many people don’t think to do this, but it gives you a taste of your future. I recommend Qdoba, our newest addition, or Propellers, a classic. Join a lunch table (they are set up as communal) and talk to students! They are happy to share their experiences and recommendations! What better way to know the university than talking to the people who eat, play, study, and even sleep there!
  • Take pictures on the residence hall tours! This is BEYOND helpful when you are planning for move in. I wish I had done this, but you can go visit my packing list blog for some pictures as well in case you forget .
  • Stop by financial aid if you’ve already been accepted and your FAFSA has been filed and reviewed. Your Admissions Counselor can help with general questions before your aid has been processed. If you have questions, they can help answer them. This saves you back-and-forth emails. I’m old-fashion though, I prefer face-to-face communication, especially on confusing, important matters.
  • When planning a time to come, try to attend Open House (next weekend) or Preview Day in the spring. Open House welcomes to all prospective students and their families while Preview Day is only for accepted students and their families. These events make touring residence halls, attending classes, and observing flights a lot easier. What I like best though, is that there are opportunities to meet and learn about campus activities and organizations. There are typically general information sessions as well. And if you’re wondering the best time of year to visit, I prefer the fall. It’s not too hot out and that’s nice considering the tour requires walking outside. Ultimately, my best tip is try to come when there are students on campus. I came on my school breaks and they happened to line up with Riddle’s breaks. Therefore my perception of the campus was that it was always empty – which is completely false. I think it’s best to see the bustling campus because that is the most realistic image, in my opinion.

While you are in Daytona, I highly recommend Tia Cori’s Tacos or Rosie’s on Beach Street for some good eats. Chicken Salad Chick is also one of my favorites, with their wide array of chicken salads (it sounds weird but it’s delicious) and yummy grape salad! Touring the race track or hitting up the massive flea market are fun things to do. And if you’re like my family, Disney World and Universal Studios are only an hour away! If time allows, try to go 45 minutes north to see Saint Augustine – a real fun spot to spend your afternoon!

If you have any questions – write a comment! I’ll get back to you! ~ Maddie

Come and visit.

As most of you know, I am actually a tour guide for Embry Riddle Prescott, so I would just like to encourage you to come on out and tour our school. With the start of the semester we have had fewer and fewer students coming out for tours, we know your busy but, we would still love to meet you and show you the awesome place that we call home (temporarily of course).

campus tour erau

The easiest way to schedule a tour is online at our main website for the Prescott campus but, of course if you are in the area and just want to stop on by  we do allow walk ins as well. We offer two tour times, 9am and 1pm. While you are here you have the options of a Campus Tour, Flight line Tour, observing a class, meeting with a counselor, meeting with financial aid, meeting with Air Force/ Army ROTC, meeting a professor/coach……The list is endless!!!! If you would like to do it and we can get it arranged for you just let us know, we will do our best so that you can enjoy your tour experience here at Embry Riddle Prescott.

In the event of any special considerations we do also offer golf cart tours which go through the campus with a golf cart. This is for those who would prefer not to walk for the entire hour that the tour is being given. On average the campus tour is an hour, the flight line tour is an hour, and the meeting with an Admissions Counselor (which comes with every tour) can be anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. So depending on what you would like to do and see at our campus your trip could be anywhere from an hour to three long (unless of course you also decide to meet with ROTC or any of our other campus entities). Like I said it is all up to you and what you are interested in.

I highly encourage you new High School Seniors to come on over and check out our school, we love it here and we hope that soon you will too!!

Campus Tours

For prospective students many colleges or Universities will offer a Campus tour so that the student may get a feel for the place that they may be living in for the next four years. Here on Embry-Riddle’s Prescott Campus the Admissions office staff and student employees (like me!!) work really hard to be sure that if you choose to tour our beautiful campus, that you have an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Prescott Aerial View of Campus

When you first arrive on campus you will meet up with your tour guide in the Welcome center, which is building 41. It is pretty simple to find, just enter campus through the entrance with the electronic signboard and take the second right leaving the roundabout. You will immediately see the Welcome Center.

Once you are inside there may be a small wait and then you will be off on your tour to see the Freshman dorms, Dining hall, Wellness Center, King Engineering, Academic Complex, Laboratories in the AXFAB (Aerospace Experimentation and Fabrication Building), Wind Tunnel Labs, Jet Dragster Lab, Central Campus, Student Facilities, and the Hazy Library. If you are interested in doing Air Force or Army ROTC at Embry-Riddle then you will also be offered the opportunity to meet with representatives of one or both of the detachments on campus.for Aeronautical Science majors a tour of the Prescott campus’s flight line is also offered and can be taken in addition to the campus tour.

campus tour erau

After your tour is complete you then have the opportunity to meet with your admissions counselor in order to cover any admissions questions you have about attending the University. Admissions counselors are located inside the Welcome Center as well as the offices of Financial Aid and Student employment so if you would like you may also look into discussing options for aid or employment with these offices after you have met with your counselor.

It may be a long and eventful day but, I can guarantee that this campus with fascinate you and that your visitor’s experience here at Embry Riddle Prescott has the potential to turn into a really fun and rewarding four years in pursuit of one of our unique majors.

Good afternoon everyone, today I would like to tell you about my new job in Embry-Riddle admissions. As you know, because its pretty obvious lol, I am a blogger but, I was recently hired to be a tour guide here on Embry-Riddle’s Prescott campus. I am really excited about my new position because I love going to school in Arizona and I also like getting to meet new interesting people from all over the world.

campus tour erau

Where are you visiting us from??

As a tour guide you get to meet all kinds of people, many are from other countries, veterans of the United States military, potential ROTC students, fresh high school graduates, and  Embry-Riddle Worldwide students. With such a large variety of individuals seeking information  it is very important that they receive an excellent welcome and gain a preliminary knowledge of the campus itself when they visit. We know that each individual will have a different campus experience but we try to make it as informative and fun as possible in order to reflect the culture that we have developed here in Prescott.

To ensure their familiarity with the campus we tour the most important places that are relevant to their major and allow the student to meet with admissions counselors and ROTC representatives if they so choose. In this manner the potential student may gain an understanding of the opportunities they will have to augment their education at the Prescott campus.

I think the part I enjoy most about being a tour guide is getting to meet all the different people and help them in any way I can. I get to share my experiences at the school as well as my thoughts on campus life, as so far everything has been really great for me. I have had my struggles with academics, friends, ROTC, and just life on my own in general but, overall I believe that my decision to attend the Embry-Riddle Prescott campus was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. At Embry-Riddle you get the freedom and the support you need to follow your desired career and even though it can be hard it has been the greatest time of my life.

I really encourage you to visit the campus and learn more about what Embry-Riddle Prescott has to offer you, I am sure that you will find a wonderful educational experience here!! Florida NextGen Test Bed

NextGen was Established in 2011, the Next Generation Air Transportation System, or NextGen, is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initiative to modernize the nation's antiquated air traffic control systems to make air travel safer, more efficient, and more economical.

The FAA has contracted Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) to operate the facility, which is located next to Daytona Beach (FL) International Airport.

To ensure that future air travel becomes safer and more efficient, and to ease economic and environmental concerns, the government signed a law in December 2003 that endorsed a Next Generation Air Transportation System.

NextGen integrates existing technologies, policies, and procedures with newly developed ones to achieve the goals of reducing delays, saving fuel, and lowering aircraft exhaust emissions.

The key to this "modernization" of the National Airspace System (NAS) is an upgrade from an Air Traffic Management (ATM) system that is decades old.

This NextGen overhaul will take ATM from the current legacy systems — inexact ground-based radar and inefficient point-to-point information sharing — to satellite-based technology, which allows for precise tracking of aircraft and a collaborative decision-making process utilizing real-time shared data.

It's an immense, multi-agency undertaking that is slated to continue through 2025 and beyond. And much of the work is being developed, tested, and implemented here in Daytona Beach, FL.

Eagle Fight research center tour

The Embry-Riddle Eagle Flight Research Center (EFRC) serves as the university's Aerospace R&D facility. The state-of-the-art center is equipped to conduct a variety of projects, including:

Experimental flight testing

Aircraft modifications for FAA certification

Design and testing of unmanned aerial systems (UAS)

Development and verification of high-fidelity (up to Level D) flight-data models used in engineering and training simulators

Prototype engineering solutions to advance eco-friendly alternatives in aviation

The EFRC is affiliated with the College of Engineering's Department of Aerospace Engineering and supports the class and individual projects of the university's various undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral engineering students. The students' research and practical efforts are supported by a diverse and experienced faculty, with specialties in fixed- and rotary-wing flight dynamics and control, flight testing, aeroelasticity, electrical engineering, air-breathing propulsion, parameter identification, and aerodynamics.

To aid in a variety of research projects, the EFRC maintains a dedicated experimental Cessna 172, which is equipped with an internal navigation system and flight-testing data acquisition and sensor package.

The EFRC has an experienced staff of professors, staff, and consulting FAA-Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs), pilots, and technicians. Our faculty, staff, and students are experienced with experimental aircraft, certification, instrumentation, and data gathering and analysis.

To help further enhance our students' experience, in addition to university- and program-related projects, the Flight Research Center does research work for commercial customers, including the aviation industry, government, and military. This gives our students excellent exposure to leading aviation and high-technology companies.
