With us and thanks to our local guide and Jabi’s experience for living for almost 15 years there, you will enter the path of the true heart of the Island of the Gods.

Bali may be most famous for its lush rain forests, beaches, rice terraces, and towering volcanoes , but the island is also incredibly rich from a cultural perspective, and people’s photography will also feature prominently.

In addition, this exclusive photographic tour of Indonesia offers the opportunity to photograph very special events to which you will have exclusive access and freedom. Private performances for portrait sessions in natural spaces.

Itinerary Indonesia Photo Tour

Day 1 arrive in surabaya, indonesia.

Pick up at the airport and taxi to your hotel in Surabaya. Meet after checking in to your room and we will meet for a tour briefing and an opportunity to meet the team.

The Indonesia Photo Tour has been carefully planned to provide a balance between guided shots on location, exploring Bali and its culture, image editing support sessions at the hotel.

Before each session, you’ll be briefed on how to maximize the creative opportunities at each location, and have extensive support in choosing the most appropriate settings on your camera and speaking with local friendly people. You’ll leave Bali with images ready to share online with your family, friends, or social media.

After a briefing at the hotel we can do our first shooting. This will be in Bromo for sunset and if the weather allows it, why not try Astro too? This is probably one of the most iconic places in Indonesia.

Day 2 Bromo - Ijen crater

In the morning we will do the Bromo sunrise again but from a different angle and location. After that we will go to photograph some epic waterfalls in the surroundings. Then we will return to the hotel and prepare the luggage to go to the blue fire of the Ijen crater. It is a long journey but we must arrive in the late evening.

The walk to this place should start at night. If we arrive at something before dawn we can do some Astro. Just after sunrise we will go to the island of Bali and our hotel in Ubud. On the way to Bali and if we have time we will stop at a location.

Day 3 Mount Agung - Tanah Lot

We will get up early to make the sunrise on the rice terraces and with views of the majestic Mount Agung, the most famous active volcano in Bali. You’ll be shown the best settings to use on the camera to capture stunning long-exposure landscapes with sharp focus throughout. For this shooting we will need a wide-angle lens, also telephoto and tripod.

Just after sunrise and we will go to photograph a waterfall. This location offers a great opportunity to capture the beauty and drama of the best and most beautiful waterfalls in Bali. From here we return to base camp to process images.

Sunset at sea. For this session, we descend from the hills to explore the coastal landscape. Probably one of the most famous temples in Bali called Tanah Lot. The PhotoWorldTours team will guide you to capture stunning long exposure landscapes at sunset before returning to Ubud.

Day 4 Mataharashi - Tegalagang rice terraces

Sunrise in Mataharashi, a private location that we will have access to thanks to our local guide. The views from up here are simply amazing. Beautiful rice terraces, the Agung volcano mount in the background, and the sun rising from the horizon.

After this and on the way to the hotel we can explore some other waterfalls. For sunset, we can go to the Tegalagang rice terraces.

Day 5 Lake Temblikan - Jatiluwih

If the weather is with us, we can do some sun before sunrise on Lake Temblikan. Then we will move to Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, it is a 17th-century temple located on a lake. Set in a fairy tale setting on a lake in the mountain mountains.

After this session, we will go to some of the most hidden waterfalls you can imagine in Bali, not yet known by tourists. We will return to the hotel to rest and prepare to see one of the most beautiful rice fields in the world. The UNESCO rice terraces of Jatiluwih where we will explore and take photos at sunset.

Day 6 Sanur beach - Dinosaur beach

For sunrise, we will go to one of our favorite places, Sanur beach offers the opportunity to capture surprising reflections with local boats. We will also have the opportunity to capture the picturesque action of a local fisherman catching the rising sun with his net.

A wide angle lens, ND filter, polarizer, and tripod are recommended for this shot. We must be ready after this session because from here we will take a boat to go to the island of Nusa Penida. Well known for its incredible white sand beaches, impressive cliffs and for the possibility of swimming with manta rays in crystal clear water.

After a quick visit to the hotel, we will go for a sunset on one of the most iconic and beautiful beaches in the world. Also known as Dinosaur beach.

Day 7 Dinosaur beach - Broken Beach

We will wake up early again. We will cross the entire island to photograph a beach with a beautiful rock formation in the water. Right after sunrise, we can take more photos from above these incredible cliffs.

Return to the hotel and rest. After all these days we will probably be very exhausted. We can also use this time to review some of our photos and edit them. For sunset we will go to Broken Beach and Billabong Beach, 2 different places but very close to each other.

Day 8 End of the trip

Last sunrise. In this case, we will go to another spectacular place. One of the most impressive cliffs on the island with incredible views. Then we will return to the hotel to check out and return to Bali.

The itinerary is flexible and will always depend on the weather. Our guides / instructors can modify it according to your experience so that you can enjoy photography to the fullest.

ARRIVAL YOGYAKARTA – HOTEL

Selamat Datang di Yogyakarta  !Meet with our guide and welcome to Yogyakarta drive to the hotel in the area Borobudur for about 1 hour’s drive

SUNRISE PUTHUK SETUMBU HILLS- BOROBUDUR – CANDISEWU PRAMBANAN

At 03.30 am drive to Puthuk Setumbu Hill for sunrise and trek about 20 minutes after sunrise visit to Borobudur temple, where you’ll visit the remains of one of the most impressive Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia In the afternoon we will wait for a moment for sunset and Discovery of the Prambanan temple, which is the largest Hindu temple of Indonesia. It was built in the 9th century and is dedicated to the belief of the Trimurti, the triple deity of Hinduism, Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer.

And visit to After lunch, we drive to Yogyakarta and check in to our hotel then embark on a city tour, visiting Keraton Jogja, Taman Sari water palace

TRAIN TO SURABAYA –  MADAKARIPURA WATERFAL – BROMO SUNSET

After breakfast, we will check out from the hotel and catch a train to Probolinggo with SANCAKA ( 06.45 am – 10.457am//Executive )

Upon arrival in Surabaya, You will meet our representative and he will guide you to Madakaripura waterfall and Cemoro Lawang villages for Bromo sunset. Hotel in Bromo

BROMO SUNRISE TOUR  –  SAVANNAH

At 03.00 am we will start by 4WD Jeep to go to the most famous viewpoint in the world at Mt.Pananjakan (2774 m masl), the rim of the Tengger Caldera. Mount Pananjakan is one of the best places on the edge of the Tengger caldera to see sunrise. Here, we will see dramatic sunrise and spectacular panorama with mountains in the ancient Tengger crater and an active Mt.Semeru (3676 m).

The jeep will take us to the slopes of Mount Bromo by crossing the sea  sand  and Wishpering Savanna, and then you will climb the slopes of Mount Bromo by following the stairs up leading to the peak of Mount  and to Whispering Savannah

SUNSET BALURAN  NATIONAL PARK- BANYUWANGI HOTEL

After breakfast and check out the hotel, drive to visit Baluran National Park, a distinct savannah landscape and home to diverse wildlife including water buffaloes, mouse deer, and peacocks. The park also provides a great vantage point for Mt Ijen which will be our main destination tomorrow. Continue driving to Banyuwangi Hotel.

IJEN TOUR – SUNSET BANGSRING BEACH

Around 01:00 am, Drive to Licin Village to the slope of Mount Ijen, passing through plantations and rainforest. This is one of the few remaining on the Island of Java with giant ferns, plants & big trees, this journey takes approximately 1 hour from the hotel by private car. Arrive at the parking area of Mount Ijen, approximately 1 hour will be required to ascend the slope of Mount Ijen to reach the peak of Ijen Crater and along the path, you will enjoy the stunning natural scenery with fresh air & shade. Resting on the edge of the crater at an altitude of 2883 meters

MUNCAR FISHING VILLAGE BEACH DAWN – DE DJAWATAN FOREST -LOVINA

Leaving hotel early morning to Muncar fisherman village, Then to De Djawatan forest. Transfer to Bali Island, Crossing the ferry from Ketapang to Gilimanuk Harbour around 45 minutes. Along scenic roads that twist through the national park and beaches

DOLPHIN TOUR – BEDUGUL TEMPLE – KINTAMANI

Sunrise and watching dolphin and local fishing boat afterward visit to Singaraja market. Drive to Ulun danu temple in Bedugul. then to Kintamani, where we find great vantage points of Mt Batur and we can access a very decorative Balinese (Hindu) temple that is open to the public. After lunch, we find Luwak coffee producer before heading to our hotel which has a great view of Mount Agung from its terraced gardens.

SUNRISE MOUNT AGUNG – BESAKIH TEMPLE – TUKAD UNDA – NIGHT BALINESSE DANCER

Before breakfast, we capture the sun rising over Mount Agung from our private gardens – hopefully, a stunning sight if it’s not too misty. Afterward, we beat the crowds to Besakih (Mother) temple, After lunch we headed for Dam Tukad Yeh Unda Klungkung From there we continued to our hotel in Ubud. At 6.00 pm watch the Balinese dance with fire dance in Puri Ubud Palace.

TEGALALANG  – MONKEY FOREST – GLASS BLOW FACTORY –TANAH LOT SUNSET

Early morning to Tegalalang, back to the hotel for breakfast. Then to Monkey forest, Then to Glass blowers in Ubud. At 03.00 drive to Tanah Lot for sunset.

PADDY FIELDS –TABANAN – JIMBARAN FISH MARKET

Early this morning, we explore the fabulous paddy fields that surround our wonderful hotel gardens, and if we are lucky we catch the last of the harvesting. At noon we drive towards Sanur where we hope to try our luck at photographing the kite surfers before heading to Jimbaran Bay where we will photograph the local fishermen bringing their catches to the market. Later we head back to Sanur and walk along the beach at sunset                  

SANUR BEACH SUNRISE – BALI AIPORT – WAINGAPU AIRPORT – SUNSET WALAKIRI

Last day sunrise shoot at Sanur Beach. Afterward, back to our  hotel for breakfast, whilst enjoying the sea views and a moment of calm before preparing for departure to the airport, Catch a flight to Waingapu at 2.40 – 4.20 pm ( by Wings Air )

Arrival Waingapu East Sumba direct to visit Walakiri Beach for sunset a picturesque coastal destination known for its stunning sunsets and unique natural features. The beach features a vast expanse of white sand and numerous unique mangrove trees that line the coast.

SUNRISE MORINDA HILLS –WAIMARANG WATERFALL  – PRAIJING VILLAGES – SUNSET WALAKIRI

We begin our day with some sunrise shots at the Morinda River, including the iconic white horses galloping gracefully across the savanna. These elegant creatures move in harmonious rhythm with the land, creating a spectacle that captures the untamed spirit of the landscape.

We continue our journey with a visit to the enchanting Waimarang Waterfall, where the cascading waters create a soothing melody that resonates with the beauty of the surroundings. Afterward, visit Praijing traditional houses and villages. We have the option to return to Walakiri Beach if appropriate, otherwise if time allows,

DEPARTURE TO BALI

After breakfast check out the hotel catch the flight back to Bali at 06.35 – 08.10 am by Wings Air and finish the program.

Indonesia odyssey: sumba, bali, and java adventure..

This trip comprises two of the most spectacular in its pure wilderness and special culture experience areas of Indonesia – Sumba island, Komodo, Bali and Java. My absolute favourites to explore in Indonesia. And I am going to take you on a trip like no other. Unique, wild and wonderful. Let’s explore together.

Sumba! The wilderness pure gem. Dancing trees paradise. With its rugged rolling hilled savannahs together with fields of maize and cassava, the island of Sumba in the East Nusa Tenggara Province offers its own distinct splendours. Sprinkled throughout its countryside are hilltop villages with thatched traditional clan houses clustered around unique megalithic tombs where villagers still pay homage to their ancestors in the ancient belief of Marapu and have retained most of the indigenous culture and traditions for generations. The island is also known for the origin of the strong and agile Sumba Ponies or Sandalwood Horses. They can swim in the sea!

Located between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores in the East Nusa Tenggara province, nested the wonderful Komodo National Park. The Komodo National Park encompasses a total of 29 volcanic islands (including the 3 major islands Rinca, Padar and Komodo) and is home to approximately 2,500 Komodo Dragons and other terrestrial fauna such as various species of reptiles, birds, and mammals. Moreover it has impressive landscape – pink beaches, coral reefs and such beautiful mountains and cliffs. All of that we will explore in sea cruise dedicated specifically for photographers. You will stay on the boat, will be served amazing seafood and enjoying every day landings.

Bali. We will use this opportunity traveling with local experienced guides to show us the hidden culture of Bali in smaller and less known traditional villages. It is a perfect trip for those who wants to practice in multiple genres of photography: portrait, street, landscape and travel. I am sure you will bring back home not just warm memories of sacred Bali Island – island of Gods – but a whole portfolio worth a book about Balinese culture and landscape. We will have multiple stages with people dressed in rich traditional costumes, stages with Barong and Rejang dancers just for our group in perfectly situated locations of old temples, banyan trees and waterfalls.

Bromo volcano, the true highlight of entire trip. First sight of Bromo will be from our hotel located just on the rim overlooking Bromo volcanic caldera.

At 2,392 meters high, Mount Bromo is not amongst the tallest of Indonesia’s mountains but its stunning beauty lies in its incredible setting. Located some 4 hours drive from Surabaya, the capital city of East Java, Mount Bromo is part of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park that covers a huge area of 800 sq km.

Standing majestically inside the huge caldera of the once ancient Mount Tengger, Mount Bromo is surrounded by a vast stretching sea of volcanic sand that radiated a certain mystical beauty. Mount Bromo and the Tengger area is also the home of the Tengger sub-ethnic group who still preserve their age-old traditions and way of life. Here, you can observe the unique indigenous culture and traditions of the ‘Tenggerese’ including their rituals and ceremonies.

AFTERNOON WE DEVOTE TO EXPLORATION OF AMAZING WATERFALLS IN BALI! 

After the final morning photoshoot at UNESCO world heritage rice fields Jatiluwih or alternatively see epic sunrise from Pinggan if fog forecast is good – with views to Mount Batur and sea of clouds – we check out from hotel and drive to the airport to catch the flight to Java, Surabaya. Depends on the timing and weather conditions we might shoot sunset or night sky, but note that afternoons are often cloudy.

DAY 9, 16  MAY

The ultimate attraction and the reason why photographers travel from far and wide to Mount Bromo is its spectacular sunrise. From a vantage point the sun rises magnificently and hot majestic Mount Bromo with first rays, while the surrounding mountain ranges create an almost surreal atmosphere. It takes about a little over an hour to drive to this vantage point. No hiking involved – we drive to the most spectacular viewpoint. The sun rises at about 5.30am.

After sunrise we have photography session with horsemen at Bromo in the dust! And following this session – relaxed breakfast, packing and departure to Surabaya airport. You are welcome to take any flight today after 2:30 p.m. from Surabaya airport (direct flights to Jakarta, Bali, Singapore etc). Tour finishes at Surabaya international airport at 1 p.m.

What to bring

Gear: – camera with tripod and remote shutter release – A wide angle lens. For example, Nikkor 14-24 or Canon 17-40. Best lens for use in wide-angle scenes or architecture photography – A middle-zoom lens such as a 24-70 mm – A telephoto zoom lens, such as a 70-200 mm.  Be sure to have additional tripod mount to this lens. – Set of filters for seascape photography: ND 3, 6, 10 stop and CPL filters

Like almost everyone else, COVID19 has certainly be challenging for me. In view of the ever changing conditions, this photo workshop is tentatively planned to take place with flexible booking conditions.

This will depend on latest governmental regulations and as well as local conditions.

TOUR ITINERARY

5pm. Meet up for welcome drink, tour briefing and get to meet fellow photographers. 

'Early' is the keyword!  Early dinner,  early night as we depart for the airport early morning. 

Group dinner is optional.

We depart in the early morning to the airport for our flight to  Pangkalan Bun. Upon arrival we will be met and transferred to our private boat where we depart immediately to the first orang utan feeding station.

Navigating along the river in the jungles of Borneo we will have a preparatory workshop while pleasantly interrupted by sights and sounds of monkeys and other wildlife.

During the next 3 days, we will be cut off from the world with no 3G/4G or phone connection. Time to get rid of the smartphone addiction!

We greet the early morning sunrise with silence except for sounds from the jungles followed by breakfast. We head off to the second feeding point.  A leisurely lunch will follow later and we proceed to Camp Leakey, the final feeding station. 

Adhoc workshops and discussion will fill the day.  In the evening you will get a chance to view fire flies.  Group dinner on the boat!

Another wonderful morning waking up to the sounds of the jungle! We have a leisurely breakfast and slowly head back to Kumai port.

We spend a night in the river village of Pangkalan Bun .  A very unique experience you will never forget!

We'll take time to review your photos as well as introduce techniques for simple astro photography and long exposures.

We leave very early morning for Banjarmasin.  It will be a very long drive.  Along the way, we'll have a lunch stop.  We aim to arrive in Banjarmasin by 8pm and we overnight in this river city.

Early morning we have our private boat to take us to the centuries old colourful floating market.

Late morning we transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Makassar, Sulawesi.  We will take this one night break to relax and enjoy the Bugis food and culture.

We have a slow and easy morning with photo reviews and workshop.

In the afternoon we depart for Rammang Rammang, a karst mountains region. We will explore a magnificient limestone cave. The region's isolation treats us to almost zero light and zero noise pollution.

Here we'll try out new skills - astro photography!

An early morning sunrise in the village of Berua.  Time permitting, we'll take a short river trip to the karst 'gardens' and visit a very unique limestone cave.

It will be a long drive to Torajaland.  Along the way, we'll have a lunch stop at a view point overlooking the magnificient Celebes sea.

We should arrive in Torajaland early evening.  And preparations to be made for your visit of this special place.

We spend the day visiting South Toraja.  Some flexibility will be needed the next few days as the program may change to accommodate local festivities (e.g.) weddings, funerals.

Depending on weather conditions, we might schedule a sunrise shoot.  Then we spend the day visiting North Toraja.

Early morning surise shoot. A long day of travelling. Toraja - Makassar - Bali.  Arrival in Bali around 21.15.

Morning sunrise rice fields shoot. Breakfast. Visit to the water palace.

In the afternoon we'll review your photos and practice long exposure techniques.

Evening culture show.

You can take it easy or opt for a morning walk into Ubud's countryside.

Check out and depart to Canggu. In the late afternoon we will practice long exposure techniques. on the beaches of Canggu and wait for the spectacular sunset to arrive.

End of tour group dinner is optional.

A leisurely morning for you.  Or why not try something different?  How about morning meditaiton on the beach followed by yoga!

We say goodbye after breakfast!  But you can always extend your stay!

I believe in transparency and accessibility to the tours. Each of us have personal budgets, different comfort expectations but a common goal of travel photography and great images. Over 14 days, through the workshops and tours, we will explore many photography techniques, improve your photography skills along the way while working together.

Apart from the personal attention you'll be receiving, you will have your own free time. There will be opportunities as well to share costs with fellow photographers to do other activities not included (optional excursions).

• You are a free independent traveller with a lust for adventure and photography. You are capable of making your own accommodation arrangements at each location. Everything else is taken care of. Relax and enjoy yourself.
• You believe in mindfulness photography, not mindless photography (as in shooting everything you see and tons of selfies) ;-)
• Minimise the use of plastics.
• Bummer..... You should have some basic knowledge about photography, understand exposure and handling your camera. If you are not a photographer, you can follow our schedule.
• Another one....Wake up early. It will be easy!  You will love to greet the morning sun in its glory in the middle of nowhere! Photography is more important than sleep! Remember, you have the day to take a siesta and at the end of the tour, extend your stay and wake up at your leisure.
• Be reasonably fit as it involves walking and very light treks.  Nothing strenuous.
• This is not a luxury tour.  The facilities on the boat are limited but comfortable and not cramped. You will have individual open air make shift beds on the deck, individual mosquito nets, cold showers, delicious food (vegetarian option available), always fresh fruits, limited electricity (charging of batteries is possible), use soap sparingly so as not to pollute the rivers that animals drink from.
• At appropriate times, no music to be played and keep noise levels low so everyone can appreciate the sound of silence and of the nature!
• You are easy going, enjoy meeting people and making new friends. We are a small group of up to 7 photographers and I want everyone to have an a wonderful time with me. 
• Like me, you are passionate about travel photography and wish to get amazing photos and not snap shots!
• You can join me for morning meditation when the opportunity arises!
