Bad Bunny Takes D.C.’s Capital One Arena by Storm (Review)

For his "most wanted tour," bad bunny embraced the persona of a western-style outlaw on the run, even riding in on a horse..

By André Hereford on April 10, 2024 @here4andre

Bad Bunny

Love ran deep last night between Bad Bunny and his fans, who filled the Capital One Arena from the floor up to the championship banners. The crowd’s passion for the artist and his music was punctuated with the roar of recognition that greeted the first notes of every single song.

Deafening screams greeted Bad Bunny, too, as he made his entrance rising from beneath the stage to a live orchestra playing the Bond-style overture of “Nadie Sabe,” the opening track on the rapper-singer’s latest LP, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana (No one knows what will happen tomorrow).

His “ Most Wanted Tour,” which supports the album, is about midway through its trek across North America. It casts the record-breaking rapper — Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, or simply Benito to the faithful — as a Western-style outlaw on the run. He’s “most wanted” by his fans   and his haters, apparently.

The Cap One Arena — scents of cologne and other blissful aromas wafting on the air, pink sombreros and cowboy boot lanyards lighting the dark — leaned unanimously towards loving him. The girls’ night revelers singing along, the date night couples snapping pics, the reggaeton and trap heads bouncing on their seats, and the adorable mom and teen son in the row ahead of us both getting their lives, all partied to a thumping take on “Monaco,” and the EDM delights of “Hibiki.”

The crowd stayed so lit, and Bunny and his sizable troupe of dancers gave so much energy, the show barely needed the frequent pyro and fireworks, though the added visual spectacle suited the Jersey club bounce of “Cybertruck” and booming bass of “Vogue”-sampling track “Vou 787.”

Owner of FIT Gym Pleads Not Guilty to Child Porn Charges

Of course, the outlaw had to address the haters too. His visage pointedly shrouded with a headscarf for much of his time onstage, Bunny remarked that he wakes up every morning to more loose talk about himself. Dancers dressed in black hoods and troll masks drove home the point (although, in general, the ensemble mostly served as queer-friendly background).

The gossip and negativity might add motivation, said Benito en español , but his true motivation to do what he does comes from within.

Maintaining his rock star aura throughout the night, that was about as openly as he discussed offstage life. Riding in on an actual horse to perform “Telefono Nuevo,” the sometime actor and wrestler resumed his stance as a superheroic Latin superstar . Dressed as a lucha caballero, dripping in gold chains, he was lifted on a stage to an illuminated catwalk suspended from the ceiling.

From his perch on the catwalk, Benito could come closer to his fans for a strong, flowing rendition of “Vuelve Candy B,” before descending for an acoustic set. Accompanied by a grand piano, Benito milked every heartfelt moment of “Gracias por Nada.”

Mississippi Man Accused of Slaughtering Ex-Boyfriend

By the time Bad Bunny finally broke out a few hits from his billions-streaming previous album, Un Verano Sin Ti , he had full-grown hardcore rap dudes shouting his name, “Be-ni-to, Be-ni-to, Be-ni-to!”

Bad Bunny's Most Wanted Tour: Everything to Know

Bad Bunny

Get all the details on the Puerto Rican superstar's fifth concert tour, including the dates and setlist.

Bad Bunny  has officially kicked off his highly anticipated Most Wanted Tour!

The 29-year-old Puerto Rican superstar launched his fifth concert tour on Feb. 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and on Saturday, he took over San Francisco's Chase Center for his second sold-out show at the venue.

ET was on hand for the concert, which was a departure from his 2022 record-breaking tour,  El Último Tour del Mundo . Unlike the last tour -- which amassed over $435 million, according to  Billboard ,  and featured more upbeat party hits -- Bad Bunny fully embraces his "King of Latin Trap" title as he returns to his trap music roots by performing songs from his latest album,  Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.

Bad Bunny's concert was full of surprises from start to finish. In addition to the updated setlist, the show features three different stages (including a floating catwalk), a full orchestra, inclusive choreography, a ton of pyrotechnics, incredible light shows, and even a real-life horse.

During the second act of the show, Bad Bunny makes his way to one of the stages on horseback as part of the tour's Wild West theme. In fact, PETA recently slammed the musician for the concert stunt, telling Newsweek ,  "Horses are extremely skittish individuals, and they're not props to be ridden across a stage amid flashing lights, booming music and noisy crowds. As they're easily spooked, this could have ended in tragedy, all for an absurd and thoughtless gimmick." The "Where She Goes" rapper has yet to issue a public response.

While the majority of the concert consists of Bad Bunny singing hit after hit, the performer does take a moment during the middle of the show to share his appreciation for his fans.

"I want to thank you for being here tonight once again. San Francisco, thank you for being here. I appreciate it so much," he told the crowd in Spanish, before asking how everybody was feeling.

As the crowd cheered, Bad Bunny continued: "With this place full of so many people, it is impossible for each of you to be feeling good. It's impossible. I am 100 percent sure that perhaps many of you tonight are going through a situation in your lives, a concern, a difficult moment, but either way, you came out... you left your problems outside and are here spending the night with me... Thank you very much. You guys also make me feel better, so thank you."

Bad Bunny has long been open about his mental health struggles , and during his performance on Sunday, he spoke about how some days are harder than others, saying some days he wakes up not wanting to do anything, and other days, he feels like "moving the world."

"It's part of life," he told the audience. "We have those moments where we're not totally OK. It's part of the day-to-day process."

Following his only speech of the night, Bad Bunny transitioned into an acoustic set, accompanied by a piano, before closing out the show with some of his more popular hits, including "Dakiti," "Me Porto Bonito," and "Where She Goes."

Bad Bunny's First NYC Show From His Most Wanted Tour Is Proof His Latine Fans Still Come First

Published on 4/12/2024 at 7:43 PM

bad bunny tour photographer

When I first learned that Bad Bunny's sold-out Most Wanted Tour included three back-to-back shows at the Barclays Center in NYC and one that landed on my birthday, April 11, it all seemed meant to be. The concert would occur three days after a highly anticipated solar eclipse , a new moon, and all during a Mercury retrograde . It would also happen during Aries season — the beginning of the astrological year and a time for new beginnings. While I had high expectations for Benito's performance and his first NYC show from the tour, one thing that stood out most is how the Puerto Rican artist continues to appreciate and celebrate his loyal Latine fans.

Bad Bunny is the most-streamed artist on the planet. This fun fact never loses its significance for loyal Latine fans who have witnessed the struggle for Latin music to get the respect and support it deserves here in the States. The Puerto Rican artist put on a hell of a performance at the Barclays Center on April 11. Looking around an arena with a 19,000-person capacity, there wasn't a single empty seat in sight, at least not within my view. It was a packed house of what appeared to be a mostly Latine crowd ranging in age and ethnicity.

There was his usual fan base — Dominican and Puerto Ricans standing in the long lines outside of the stadium with their flags tied around their necks and flowing from their backs. Even with the cold, rainy weather, everyone in those lines was decked out in Bad Bunny merch and ready to celebrate the artist. These same folks were the first to jump up and wave their flags whenever Bad Bunny made mention of his Latine fans and supporters. There were also many Latines of Central and South American descent rocking their flags and holding up signs expressing their love for the singer. Although he's gone global, especially since the success of his 2022 record-breaking album " Un Verano Sin Ti ," Latines still appear to make up most of Bad Bunny's concert-attending fans, from how things appeared on Thursday night.

Regardless of how many awards he's taken home or how many records he's broken, Bad Bunny hasn't lost sight of the folks that have supported his music since his early days on SoundCloud before non-Latines had any clue who el conejo malo was. He has proven that whenever he's apologetically spoken in Spanish during an interview or at an award show . He's proven that in the way he has continued to elevate the genre, paying his respect to OGs like Daddy Yankee , Residente, and Tego Calderon and giving his stamp of approval to rising Puerto Rican artists like Young Miko , Rainao , and Villano Antillano .

I've seen Bad Bunny live in NYC twice: first in 2019 at Barclays, and then again at Yankee Stadium for his 2022 World's Hottest tour . At all his concerts, Benito only spoke Spanish and almost exclusively addressed his Latine fans. In many ways, like with many Latin music artists today, attending a Bad Bunny concert feels like you're exclusively a part of his crew or fan club. It doesn't matter that he's gone global — he's still only speaking Spanish and shouting-out Latines.

"New York has been very important in my career, where dreams come true," he told fans in Spanish on Thursday. "Being on the tour feels really amazing, going to each place and seeing it, all the cities, but New York, it's something else. It feels more amazing than usual. Seeing all those PR and DR flags makes it even more special. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here; it means a lot to me."

The artist had a lot of emotional moments throughout the performance during which he would stare at a packed stadium filled with excited fans in complete awe and then with teary eyes right before giving his heartwarming speech to Latine fans. In many ways, Bad Bunny's latest album, " Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana ," paid homage to Puerto Rico and his Latine concert goers. It acknowledged that regardless of the fame and success that followed with "Un Verano Sin Ti," he hasn't forgotten where he's come from and who his number-one fans are. The concert was very reflective of that sentiment, with half of the songs on the setlist being straight from "Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana," and the later half of the show including older tracks, a guest performance by Bryant Meyer, and tracks from "Un Verano Sin Ti," including his hit track "Titi Me Pregunto." The production at this show was also top-notch, with an orchestra that opened up the show and reappeared throughout, Benito playing "Amorforda" on the piano upside down, a cool jigsaw bridge in the middle of the stadium room, and the artist even riding into the stadium on a real-life horse looking like a ranchero-meets-lucha-libre.

bad bunny tour photographer

Bad Bunny went all out for us from start to end, delivering an almost-three-hour-long performance filled with so much attention to detail and deeply rooted love and appreciation for his Latine fans. The Latine community is a beautiful one. When we love — we love hard. When we support — we show up in large numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if there were full families in that crowd. But we're also the quickest to criticize our own idols whenever they reach a certain level of fame. And while Bad Bunny has certainly reached a level of fame where he can probably get away with performing for less than two hours without all the cool production effects, he still put in the love he's had for his craft and his Latine fans since the beginning, and he still let us know that he wouldn't be here without us. And that is something I don't think he'll ever stop doing, regardless of how far he may go in his career.

Bad Bunny photos: Career highlights including 2024 Oscars, Most Wanted Tour shows

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, went from working as a bagger at a supermarket to becoming an international superstar. The Puerto Rican reggaeton star gained popularity on SoundCloud before signing to a record label. Now, six studio albums later — 2018's "X 100pre," 2019's "Oasis" with J Balvin, 2020's "YHLQMDLG" and"El Último Tour Del Mundo," 2022's "Un Verano Sin Ti," and 2023's "Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana"— Bad Bunny has taken the music world by storm. He's also seamlessly added professional wrestler, actor and fashion icon to his résumé. No one's done it like "El Conejo Malo." In April 2023, the enigmatic superstar made history as the first Latino solo artist to headline the Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival. The Art of Stillz: The Elusive Creative Visionary Talks About His Most Memorable Videos

By Julyssa Lopez

Julyssa Lopez

Several of the most striking videos from the last few months — Omar Apollo’s “Invincible,” Bad Bunny ’s “Moscow Mule,” Rosalia’s “Candy” — have one thing in common: a director’s credit that reads “By STILLZ.” Though the name seems to be everywhere, there’s not much info out there about who Stillz is. His Instagram account is known for stark Polaroid shots, à la Andy Warhol, that have captured artists such as Daddy Yankee, ASAP Rocky, and Jennifer Lopez at their most natural — but the lens is always turned on someone else.

That’s how S tillz likes it. The 23-year-old photographer and creative director, whose real name is Matias Vasquez, grew up outside of Miami. He picked up a camera when he was about 15 and started shooting his friends skateboarding. Eventually, he dropped out of school and moved to New York, where he connected with street photographers who worked in the music world. One introduced him to J Balvin , at the time an up-and-coming reggaeton artist in the city. Stillz began taking photos for Balvin, which led another young artist to discover his work: Bad Bunny.

The Puerto Rican superstar gave him a gigantic, career-changing break directing his 2020 video for “Vete.” “It was such a big leap from the small stuff that I had done, and I had to pretty much just promise them that it was going to be amazing,” Stillz says. The video, filled with off-kilter shots that played with perspective and art-world inspiration, got hundreds of millions of views and made waves. “When the video came out, it was really different, I feel, for a Latin video,” he says.

Bad Bunny put him in charge of more videos, and now Stillz is one of the most in-demand directors in the game. “I hope I’m opening doors,” he says. “I feel like a big thing when you’re starting is getting people to trust you and to believe in doing things differently. Some videos now are starting to make a shift.”

Stillz joined  RS to talk about some of his most memorable stills.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, omar apollo featuring daniel caesar, “invincible”.

Omar Apollo sent Stillz his song “Invincible,” and the two of them came up with a trippy, hallucinatory video that follows two characters entering an otherworldly afterlife after a drug overdose.

“We shot on a smaller format film—16—so it could be more grainy and grittier. Later, with all this afterlife stuff, we shot on super clean film, and we really pushed the saturation and made it really colorful. Andrés Gudiño is the artist [who made the masks]. Omar was the one who showed him to me. He makes these crazy sculptures of huge heads. He was just like, “Let’s do something with this.”

Lil Nas X, “That’s What I Want”

A label commissioner reached out to Stillz about taking this project on and working on a concept that Lil Nas X had come up with.

bad bunny tour photographer

“Nas had sent the idea, and it was genius. What I like about him is that he has a really clear vision, and he’s not afraid to take risks and do crazy things. He’s just amazing. We wanted to capture everything from a cinematic point of view, and make sure it felt like you’re watching a movie. The whole church thing and everything, those were his ideas. I think my job was just to tell the story the best way possible.”

Tainy featuring Julieta Venegas and Bad Bunny, “Lo Siento BB:/”

The mega-producer Tainy and Stillz brought this collaboration to life with bittersweet visuals about a blue monster and the love of his life.

bad bunny tour photographer

“This was shot over the span of three or four months. We started to think about puppets, and that’s when the idea of a Where the Wild Things -inspired monster came. I had been watching a lot of Spike Jonze movies. I like those heartbreaking stories that don’t have a happy ending. At least commercially, there’s a lot of things that have to end happily. I like the ones that don’t.”

Bad Bunny, “Vete”

Bad Bunny had seen an unreleased music video that Stillz did for the Puerto Rican artist Mora, and he asked Stillz to direct “Vete,” which ended up being Stillz’ first big-budget introduction to the world.

bad bunny tour photographer

“I was super nervous. ‘Vete’ was honestly a mixture of what the song was saying and some references that we found in some photo books and from a photographer that I really love, Jason Peterson . In my videos, there’s a lot of references from painters, and also from old movies and things that I like — then just random things that you hear of or see in real life, like when you go somewhere and you see something really strange, and you’re like, ‘Damn. This is weird as fuck, man.'”

A music star has to be pretty confident in their ability to move tickets in order to advertise a tour with the caveat: “If you’re not a real fan, don’t come.”

Fortunately, Bad Bunny ranks as one of the very biggest stars on the planet, and, as such, moving tickets isn’t a problem for this Puerto Rican rapper. So, despite shooing away all the nonreal fans, the Bunny man was still able to fill the Chase Center in San Francisco to capacity for two nights, Friday and Saturday (March 1-2), over the weekend.

On the second night, the 29-year-old “King of Latin Trap” would delight his loyal fanbase with a fiery, action-packed multi-set show that ran almost exactly two hours and included some three dozen songs.

The fans seemed to know every single number — including every single word of every single lyric — by heart, which is a testament to just how much time Bad Bunny’s listeners devote to his music. He has ranked as the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify in two of the last three years — taking the top prize in 2021 and 2022, then falling to second, just behind Taylor Swift, in 2023.

The show was performed in the round, with the action taking place on the arena floor and seating for fans on all sides. There were actually two semi-circle stages in use — one placed at each side of the arena floor — with a standing-room section for fans between the two.

The concert kicked off in dramatic fashion as the Philharmonic Orchestra Project, under the direction of conductor Carlitos Lopez (a Latin Grammy Award in the best Christian album category), took over one of the two stages and nicely set the mood for what was to come. Minutes later, Bad Bunny — whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio — took the other stage and The Most Wanted Tour was off to the races.

Bad Bunny stuck mainly to his latest (and fifth overall) solo studio album — last year’s “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana” (translation: Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow) — during the first segment of the show, delighting fans with such selections as “Nadie Sabe,” “Hibiki,” “Fina” and “Monaco.”

There was much razzmatazz on display, as Bad Bunny showed off his lyrical prowess amid an ever-changing swirl of visual stimuli, which included, but was certainly not limited to, 18 high-energy dancers, minor pyrotechnics, major laser displays and a floating skybridge that allowed the star to move between the two stages.

Oh, did we mention the horse? Yeah, following one of the breaks in the action, Bad Bunny rode into view atop a horse — mimicking, in a much safer fashion, the illustrated Wild West/cowboy scene found on the album cover of “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.” His fans have also greatly embraced the whole Western motif, with a huge number of them showing up for Saturday’s concert in cowboy hats.

The Western theme also factored into one of the coolest special effects of the nights, as fans were given boot-shaped plastic necklaces (complete with spurs!) as they walked into the venue. Those boots then pulsed with a variety of lights at opportune times during the concert, to provide a dizzying light display throughout the crowd. We’re not talking about simple blinking (although that happened as well), but rather elaborately choreographed and staged light shows that absolutely boggled the mind.

Bad Bunny then slowed the party down for a bit, taking a seat atop a piano while a sole accompanist handled the keys during a segment that included a lovely version of “Gracias por Nada.” Then he was back in full fiesta mode and drove the show to a close with such memorable numbers as “La Jumpa” and “Me Porto Bonito.”

It was a strong finish to what had been a massive week for live music in the Bay Area, with the other top shows being Madonna’s two nights at Chase Center on Feb. 27-28 and Nicki Minaj’s tour opener at Oakland Arena on March 1.

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — International recording artist Bad Bunny kicked off his highly anticipated world tour at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, drawing legions of fans who lined up outside the arena for a chance to experience the global superstar live on stage.

Named the "Most Wanted Tour," Bad Bunny is set to roll through 31 cities for a total of 47 shows.

Among the excited fans was Sammy Tonosso, who shared her enthusiasm for finally seeing Bad Bunny perform live.

"I used to live in Puerto Rico, and that's when I learned who he was. Now he's here for me," she laughed.

For those who missed the Salt Lake City show, Bad Bunny will be performing in Las Vegas this Friday and Saturday, making it a tempting option for fans willing to make the six-hour drive.

A Timeline of Bad Bunny’s Biggest Career Moments, From Charts To Protests & More

bad bunny tour photographer

Leaping from one milestone to another like a superhero between sky-high buildings, Bad Bunny’s career seems to always be on high, always in action. He’s actually given us little time to process his accomplishments—because they’re so numerous, and far from leisurely paced.

I mean, were y’all really done listening to YHLQMDLG or Las Que No Iban a Salir when he dropped El Último Tour del Mundo last week? Altogether, Bad Bunny has dropped a total of 40 songs released in three albums in a single year, and that doesn’t include features or collaborations with other artists, either.

More than a hitmaker, Bad Bunny has become a culture-shifter, a game-changer—an influencer in the most genuine and impactful sense of the word. When we think about his greatest achievements, we must take into consideration that Bad Bunny’s career milestones are more than just chart rankings, streams, or YouTube views. We gotta include everything major that’s gassed up his greatness.

This is by no means an extensive list of Bad Bunny’s slam-dunks throughout his career: There’s so many more we include here. And true to Benito’s trajectory so far, there’s always more on the way.

Without further ado, here’s a timeline of Bad Bunny’s biggest career moments thus far.

The Early Singles (2016 and 2017)

bad bunny tour photographer

Bad Bunny’s breakthrough—from Soundcloud to airplay and major streaming numbers—came in 2016 via “Diles,” a super-sexual slow-burner alongside Ozuna, Farruko, Arcangel and Nengo Flow. His growing following in Puerto Rico’s underground now began to reach the Latinx diaspora, and several more singles came close in order, maintaining the momentum. Among them is “ Soy Peor ,” where Benito takes center stage, and “Chambea” and “Krippy Kush,” both pumped-up, party-ready cuts that felt like a rush by comparison. Already embraced by DJs at Puerto Rico’s nightclubs, he soon makes a big impression on Daddy Yankee’s “Vuelve” too, in case anyone was doubting his cred.

It’s during this time that Bad Bunny’s signature vocals—strikingly low, like a perpetual boom that never explodes—make clear to reggaeton and Latin trap fans that nobody else flows like he does. In fact, Benito is beginning to stand out as a pioneering artist.

Cardi B’s Seal of Approval

bad bunny tour photographer

In a year of massive collabs—”MIA” with Drake and “Te Guste” with J.Lo, to name a couple—“I Like It” is easily Bad Bunny’s most culturally impactful work. Cardi B runs this show, absolutely, but Benito and buddy J Balvin add a litany of lyrical references to Latin music old and new, from Celia Cruz to Benito mentioning “Chambea” and, for the first time on a major level, signaling to the new wave of urban: “This is the new religion, bang, en latino gang, gang,” he raps.

The trio’s performance of the song at the American Music Awards in October is another major milestone for Bad Bunny, and not only because he performed with Queen Cardi before millions of U.S. viewers. It’s the debut of his third eye, painted on his forehead, that gets a lot of folks’ attention: nobody, much less a Latinx male artist, hs showed up to an awards show sporting one. Now, his obvious pro-individuality stance on style—his baby blue patterned suit on the red carpet is unexpected, too—adds another layer to what makes Bad Bunny so singular.

We’d be remiss not to mention the remix of Nío Garcia, Darrel and Casper Mágico’s “Te Boté” here, of course. (Nicky Jam and Ozuna are in there too, but Bad Bunny’s line, “Baby, la vida e’ n ciclo/ Y lo que no sirvo yo no lo reciclo” is undeniably most memorable.”) The hit went so long, and so wide, spending nearly two-and-a-half years on the Billboard charts, that it deserves heralding as a massive milestone in Latinx music—and Bad Bunny certainly contributed to that success.

“Estamos Bien,” He Says

bad bunny tour photographer

The single was released the summer after Hurricane Maria, while the entire archipelago still grappled with the historic storm’s devastating effects, so for many Puerto Ricans it was a rallying call for continued resilience.

The whole world was following the story of the tragically slow post-storm recovery of Puerto Rico and nearby islands, and everyone was also looking at Bad Bunny, as he was fresh off the AMA’s performance. This is when we understood Bad Bunny to be not only an artist, but also an advocate for his people: He used his late-night TV debut on the Tonight Show in September of 2018 to speak out against Trump’s “denial” of how many people died as a result of Maria, and pointing out how, a year later, so many Puerto Ricans were still without electricity.

'X100PRE,' a Holiday Surprise

bad bunny tour photographer

Bad Bunny’s debut album, released with little notice on Christmas eve, brought more joy than Santa ever could—for his fans, anyway. And the surprise wasn’t the best part, either. It’s the actual album, a total masterpiece that spans genres and pushes barriers and totally confuses people who think Latinx urbano is one thing or another. Bad Bunny taught us on X100PRE that there are no boundaries before him: His sound is whatever he wants it to be, whether that means a sappy emo-leaning number (“Si Estuviésemos Juntos”) or a pop-punk tinged bop (“Tenemos Que Hablar”) or a trap track underscored by lyrics that champion individuality (“Caro”).

The videos rolled out alongside these songs, by the way, are milestones in themselves—especially “Caro,” for its spirited gender play and pro-LGTBQIA+ messaging, and “Solo de Mi,” employed to call for an end to gender-based violence, an especially acute issue in Puerto Rico.

San Juan Homecoming

bad bunny tour photographer

Bad Bunny’s three-night stand at San Juan, Puerto Rico’s famed El Choliseo belongs on this timeline of events because he made it so: It was an experience as much as it was an event. Forty-plus songs were performed each night, guests were major, and there were attractions set up throughout the venue (video games, a nail salon, horoscope booths). At this point, Bad Bunny’s fame is soaring globally, yet he pays special attention to everyone back home who loves him: that time and care was truly special.

Man of the People of Puerto Rico

bad bunny tour photographer

Along with Residente, Bad Bunny showed up at then-Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló’s mansion in the middle of the night early on in the year. A chunk of the politically charged adventure, centered on the island’s high rates of femicides , was streamed live on IG.

But later that summer, as protests against Rosselló swelled in Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny, despite how high-profile he’d grown to be, joined the people in denouncing the now-former governor for the offensive and homophobic commentary of a leaked chat. He was loud on socials, but most importantly, he literally, actually, physically showed up—at one of the biggest demonstrations during the movement, no less, alongside Ricky Martin, Residente, and iLe.

Pressure from the people led Rosselló to resign, but Bad Bunny helped amplify the people’s voices, no doubt.

An Oasis of Solid Jams

We include this collaborative EP with Balvin because their friendship was at peak cuteness at the time, and also because it had the “biggest streaming debut” of a Latinx album in 2019. And while it didn’t chart new sonic territory for either of them, the fact remains that it’s dense with hits, like the lloripari anthem “La Canción” and “Yo Le Llego.”

Benito Reminds Us 'YHLQMDLG'

This video album has everything: perreo and drag combined, a reggaeton tribute medley with Jowell and Randy and Nengo Flow, a tribute to Puerto Rico, another perfectly sing-along-able emo song, and more. Seriously, though, if the world wasn’t sure already that Bad Bunny does whatever he wants always, on Feb. 29 this year, he made sure everyone understood.

September’s Quarantine Concert Parade

As much as we loved his quarantine livestream, watching Bad Bunny roll through New York City neighborhoods, performing career-spanning hits for almost two hours was simply unprecedented. He’s not the first artist to perform in such a manner, but there’s no denying he’s the first-and only-one to do it amid a global pandemic. Including virtual duets with Sech, Mora and Balvin, Bad Bunny’s performance attracted more than 1.4 million viewers to his YouTube channel.

Bad Bunny starts his Most Wanted Tour in Utah this week. Here’s why.

Why is a worldwide music sensation starting his North American tour this week at Delta Center?

For Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican singer-rapper who’s launching his “Most Wanted Tour” Wednesday night in Salt Lake City — the first of 47 shows in 31 cities — it came down to good timing and the support of Utah’s growing Latino fan base.

Bad Bunny’s show is the “highest grossing single-day concert” in Delta Center’s nearly 33-year history, said Mark Powell, the arena’s senior vice president of events.

As Bad Bunny was planning the tour, Powell said, his agent reached out to Delta Center directly.

“He’d heard this was a great market for Latinx shows,” Powell said.

The numbers back that up, Powell said. For every Delta Center show, he said, the arena conducts a post-concert survey to gauge how positively people feel about a show. “A good [survey] score is usually about 30 to 35,” Powell said. “For all our Latinx shows, we have an average [survey] score of 70, which is just off the charts.”

Powell cited the success Delta Center has had with the Mexican singer-songwriter Carin León, who has played the arena twice in the last two years.

“When Carin León came the first time, it was a very small, independent promoter that was out of Mexico,” Powell said. After the show, Powell said that León “told us … that he’s going to tell all his friends how great a place this is to play.”

Last year, such acts as Banda MS, Christian Nodal and Peso Pluma also played Delta Center. Pluma played his first U.S. arena show here last June, and it sold out in three weeks, Powell said.

Powell said Delta Center has between seven and 10 more shows by Latino artists coming in 2024. Mexican singer Luis Miguel is scheduled to play there on April 28. And the Colombian singer Feid, also known as Ferxxo, is set to perform there May 15 as part of his “Ferxxocalipsis” tour of North America.

In the next few months, other Salt Lake County venues are bringing in such acts as Colombian singer-songwriter Andrés Cepeda, Mexican rock bands Caifanes and Cafe Tacvba, the Mexican singer Xavi, the Mexican grupera trio Los Temerarios and the Mexican rock acts División Minúscula and Jumbo.

“That genre of music is really exploding nationwide, and Salt Lake is no different,” Powell said.

According to a study issued in October by the entertainment data company Luminate and reported in Daily Variety , music in Spanish is now listened to more in the United States than music in any language besides English — and one out of every 13 songs streamed is in Spanish.

A musician making history

Bad Bunny is one of the acts leading that surge — making history, as charted by Billboard , as the first Spanish-language artist to be Spotify’s most globally streamed artist in 2020, a feat he repeated in 2021 and 2022. (It took the cultural juggernaut that is Taylor Swift to knock him out of the top spot last year.)

Bad Bunny’s 2021 “El Último Tour Del Mundo” became the fastest-selling tour since 2018. His 2022 album “Un Verano Sin Ti’' was on the Billboard 200 chart for 13 non consecutive weeks — and went on to win best música urbana album at the 65th Grammy Awards, and was a nominee for album of the year.

Last year, he became the first Spanish-language artist to close out a set at Coachella. Under his given name, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, he’s also acted in the movies “Bullet Train” with Brad Pitt and “Cassandro” with Gael Garcia Bernal.

His hallmark is a combination of reggaeton and trap that he continues to stand by , tracing back to his Caribbean roots.

That’s the music that Jeff Quispe heard on the radio that got him interested in Bad Bunny. Quispe, who’s from Peru and lives in Utah, said he’s been a fan ever since the artist’s debut album, “X 100pre (Por Siempre),” in 2018.

“In Latin America, we listen to a lot of reggaeton, trap, salsa, bachata,” Quispe said. “X 100pre,” he added, “was more like a trap album instead of reggaeton. I love that album. And then, basically, the rest is history.”

Having Bad Bunny start his tour in Salt Lake City is “a big advantage” for local fans, Quispe said. “I don’t have to travel, like, to Vegas or other places to see him.”

Quispe said he’s seen Bad Bunny live twice before, but he doesn’t have tickets for the show — he wasn’t selected for Ticketmaster’s coveted presale codes, and after that the tickets were too expensive. (Powell said ticket pricing is controlled by the artist.) Quispe said he’s hopeful to snag a ticket somehow.

Ann Clark, 56, has her tickets for Wednesday’s show. Her kids introduced her to Bad Bunny, she said, and she’s been a fan since 2021. She doesn’t speak Spanish, but the language barrier isn’t an issue, she said.

“I can’t understand what he’s singing about, I just like the beat,” she said. “The music appeals to me without even knowing.”

Quispe said that part of Bad Bunny’s legacy is that his fans span the world and over language barriers. It’s a toss-up, he said, whether some fans will pick up on his Spanish slang references.

Abram Spencer, another fan, served a mission in Mexico for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is fluent in Spanish.

“When I first got there, the first thing I heard was Bad Bunny, and I just kind of fell in love with it. It was like a connection,” Spencer said. “So when I got home, I just kind of dug deeper into Bad Bunny and I discovered songs I never heard before that I absolutely love.” What really sticks out for Spencer, he said, is how Bad Bunny can craft songs about heartbreak.

A great place to start

Starting the tour at Delta Center is also a product of fortunate timing, Powell said. The arena’s most prominent tenants, the Utah Jazz, will have a few days off for Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game.

That break, Powell said, is giving Bad Bunny extra time in the arena before Wednesday’s show.

“He immediately knew this would be a great place for him to rehearse the tour before it goes out,” Powell said.

“Bad Bunny, right now, is the No. 1 Latin artist in the world, in my opinion,” Quispe said. “That he’s opening his tour here in Salt Lake City can open the city to other artists to come and maybe do the opening night of their tours here. … It’s difficult for a Latino artist, especially, to get into other markets, so that’s really impressive.”

For the “Most Wanted Tour,” perhaps Bad Bunny’s words put it best: “Nadie sabe lo que va a pasar mañana. No lo dejes escapar. Porque quiz as no lo vuelvas a ver” — or, in English, “No one knows what’s going to happen tomorrow. Don’t let it slip away. ‘Cause you might never see it again.”

(Ricardo Pinzón | Sony Music Colombia) Colombian singer-songwriter Andrés Cepeda is scheduled to perform April 16, 2024 at Metro Music Hall in Salt Lake City.

Latino stars in Utah

Besides Bad Bunny’s concert Wednesday at Delta Center, these internationally known Spanish-language musical artists are scheduled to come through Utah in the next few months:

Andrés Cepeda • Colombian singer-songwriter, April 16, Metro Music Hall.

División Minúscula and Jumbo • Mexican rock bands, April 25, The Depot.

Luis Miguel • Mexican singer, April 28, Delta Center.

Xavi • Mexican singer, April 28, Union Event Center.

Feid, aka Ferxxo • Colombian singer, May 15, Delta Center.

Caifanes and Cafe Tacvba • Mexican rock bands, June 13, Maverik Center.

Los Temerarios • Mexican grupera trio, August 4, Maverik Center.

Bad Bunny News: Singer Announces 2024 Tour

Quick facts, early life and family, how did bad bunny get his name, music career: hit songs and albums, girlfriend kendall jenner, fashion ventures and acting career, who is bad bunny.

Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican musician with a global following. He became a success while writing and singing in Spanish, unlike previous acts who switched to English to broaden their fan bases. The three-time Grammy winner is known for the songs “Titi Me Pregunto,” “Dakiti,” “Moscow Mule,” and “I Like It,” a No. 1 hit with Cardi B and J Balvin . His 2020 album El Último Tour del Mundo became the first all-Spanish album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. He repeated the feat with his fourth studio album, Un Verano Sin Ti , which also became the first Spanish-language album to earn a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. His new album is called Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana and released in October 2023.

FULL NAME: Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio BORN: March 10, 1994 BIRTHPLACE: Vega Baja, Puerto Rico ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Pisces

Bad Bunny was born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio on March 10, 1994, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, which is approximately 30 miles west of San Juan. He was raised in a lower middle-class household in Vega Baja’s Almirante Sur neighborhood. His father was a truck driver, and his mother taught English. He has two younger brothers, Bernie and Bysael.

Young Bad Bunny was a fan of reggaeton, a blend of hip-hop and reggae, and liked performers such as Daddy Yankee and Vico C. He sometimes got to hear reggaetonero Tego Calderón in the car on the way to school. Benito also listened to salsa, merengue, and rock. At one point, his preferred music was the Bee Gees .

Benito sang in the choir of his local Catholic church until he was 13. He then concentrated on making his own beats in his room and free-styling at school.

He enrolled in the audiovisual-communications program at the University of Puerto Rico’s Arecibo campus. To support his studies, he bagged groceries at an Econo supermarket.

Bad Bunny shared the origins of his name with ET in 2018. “When I was a little boy in school, I had to dress up as a bunny, and there’s a picture of me with an annoyed face. And when I saw it, I thought I should name myself ‘Bad Bunny,’” he explained. “It’s a name I knew would market well. A bunny is something so common that I thought to myself, every time someone sees one, they’ll remember my music.”

maluma and bad bunny embracing each other on a stage as bad bunny sings into a microphone and maluma looks out at the crowd

Bad Bunny first began sharing his music on SoundCloud when he was still a college student. In 2016, the popularity of his song “Diles” resulted in calls from producers, which Bad Bunny had to answer while at work in the grocery store.

After he found a manager, Noah Assad, the pair developed a plan to get attention by releasing singles and videos on YouTube instead of trying to sign with major record labels.

In 2017, Bad Bunny was part of a number of successful singles, such as “Pa Ti,” “Loco Pero Millonario,” and “Sensualidad.” His singles success continued in 2018 with the Grammy-nominated “I Like It.” He recorded the song with rapper Cardi B and reggaeton star J Balvin , and it became a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 that July.

Bad Bunny’s debut album X 100PRE came out on Christmas Eve 2018. It climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. The record showcases Bad Bunny’s skills in multiple music genres, which provided a way for him to both cope with his success and demonstrate his abilities. X 100PRE received a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Music Album and became diamond-certified by May 2019.

The next month, Bad Bunny released another collaboration with J Balvin: an EP called Oasis . It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album.

bad bunny, wearing a white and silver sparkling coat and durag, sings into a microphone while kneeling forward on a stage in front of fans raising their hands toward him

Bad Bunny performed at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime with Shakira , Jennifer Lopez , and J Balvin. On Leap Day of that year, he released a reggaeton album, YHLQMDLG ( Yo Hago Lo Que Me Da La Gana, which translates to “I do whatever I want”). It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The diamond-certified album also won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop or Urban Album, which Bad Bunny dubbed his “ gringo Grammy .”

In May 2020, another Bad Bunny album, Las Que No Iban a Salir , arrived. Its 10 tracks include outtakes from previous recording sessions. Later that year his single “Dakiti” had a No. 1 debut on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and spent 27 weeks at the top of the chart. On Thanksgiving 2020, Bad Bunny released his third album of the year, El Último Tour del Mundo . It became the first all-Spanish album to launch at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and won Best Música Urbana Album at the 2022 Grammys.

Spotify declared Bad Bunny the Artist of the Year in December 2020. His music had more than 8 billion streams on the platform.

In a 2021 interview , Bad Bunny said, “I’m pleased that we are in a time where I don’t need to change anything about myself—not my musical style, not my language, not my culture—to go far. That doesn’t mean I’ll never sing in English. I already sang in Japanese, so maybe one day I’ll sing in English. It feels great to do things my way.”

The song Bad Bunny sang in Japanese was 2021’s “Yonaguni,” which became his first solo top 10 hit on the Hot 100 after numerous collaborative efforts. Bad Bunny’s musical collaborators include Nicki Minaj , Ricky Martin , Daddy Yankee , Ñengo Flow, Jowell y Randy, Ozuna, Enrique Iglesias , Drake , Maluma , Karol G , Rosalía , Marc Anthony , and Will Smith .

Un Verano Sin Ti , Bad Bunny’s fourth studio album, came out in May 2022. Like El Ultimo Tour before it, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spending 13 weeks at the top, and won the Grammy for Best Música Urbana Album. Un Verano Sin Ti was also Bad Bunny’s sixth consecutive release to reach No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart. The hit record also broke new ground for the artist and the Recording Academy, earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. It was Bad Bunny’s first nod in the category and the first time a Spanish-language album was competing for the top honor.

In late September 2023, Bad Bunny released the reggaeton single “Un Preview,” calling it possibly the “last song” he would release this year and “a small preview of what is coming next year.” But two weeks later, he announced he would release his fifth studio album on October 13. His corresponding Instagram post was captioned “the most anticipated day by many has arrived.”

His new album is titled Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana , which translates to “nobody knows what will happen tomorrow.” Bad Bunny had previously hinted at the album’s title, featuring a billboard displaying the phrase nadie sabe... at the end of the music video for his song “Where She Goes.” Additionally, Spotify billboards featuring the words nadie sabe si será este año o el próximo , or no one knows if it will be this year or next, started appearing in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina in early October 2023.

Bad Bunny’s music often contains socially conscious messages. Following the devastation of Hurricane Maria, he tried to capture Puerto Rico’s spirit in “Estamos Bien.” When he performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon , Bad Bunny reminded the audience that numerous Puerto Rican households were still without power a year after the September 2017 storm.

With 2018’s “Sólo de Mí,” Bad Bunny addressed domestic violence in Latin America. During another Tonight Show appearance in February 2020, Bad Bunny brought attention to the murder of a trans woman in Puerto Rico by wearing a shirt that said Mataron a Alexa, no a un hombre con falda , which means “They killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt.”

During the 2020 quarantine period of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bad Bunny serenaded New Yorkers while riding on top of a truck through the city. At his final stop, he sang to health workers at Harlem Hospital.

Bad Bunny has also engaged in direct activism. He took part in July 2019 protests demanding the resignation of Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló after text messages revealed the governor and other officials being sexist and homophobic, as well as mocking hurricane victims. Bad Bunny also penned the protest song “Afilando Los Cuchillos.” Prior to the 2020 election, he urged people to vote.

Bad Bunny’s Good Bunny Foundation aids children in poverty. He partnered with Cheetos’ Deja Tu Huella campaign to distribute $500,000 among 10 students who are serving their communities.

Bad Bunny is currently dating television personality and model Kendall Jenner . The two met through mutual friends in February 2023, and rumors of their relationship began almost immediately as the two were regularly spotted at restaurants and events. They attended the Met Gala together in May and publicly made out during a Drake concert in August.

Nevertheless, Bad Bunny has largely declined to discuss the relationship or his private life in interviews, telling Vanity Fair : “[Fans] don’t know how you feel, they don’t know how you live, they don’t know anything, and I really don’t want them to know. I’m not really interested in clarifying anything because I have no commitment to clarify anything to anyone.”

Previously, Bad Bunny dated jewelry designer Gabriela Berlingeri from 2017 to January 2023. He met her at a restaurant in Puerto Rico, and the pair spent the COVID-19 quarantine period together. Berlingeri sang on the song “En Casita” with Bad Bunny.

Bad Bunny has demonstrated an open-minded attitude toward sex and gender. “It does not define me,” he said of his sexuality in 2020. “At the end of the day, I don’t know if in 20 years I will like a man. One never knows in life. But at the moment I am heterosexual, and I like women.”

In addition to his musical success, Bad Bunny has explored other industries like fashion and acting. Known for his unique fashion sensibilities , he has designed clothes and sneakers for Adidas. He put his own spin on a series of glow-in-the-dark Crocs, which quickly sold out after their release.

Onscreen, Bad Bunny has a supporting role in the TV show Narcos: Mexico. He also appeared with Brad Pitt in the action movie Bullet Train and has a role in the upcoming comedy American Sole.

  • It makes me really proud to get to this level by speaking in Spanish, and not only in Spanish, in the Spanish we speak in Puerto Rico, without changing my accent.
  • I want people to remember me as someone genuine, someone with a big heart. For being myself. That’s what leaving your mark is about, doing something that represents who you really are.
  • My message shouldn’t be a feminist message. It’s a universal message.
  • I never felt as masculine as I did the day I dressed up like a drag queen.
  • There are people who listen to reggaeton and love it, and at the same time, they have never felt represented within it. In 20 or 30 years, nobody had worried about that, but I did.
  • I am not a fan of repeating the same formula. Each album that I’ve made has its own identity.

Bad Bunny says he ‘can’t breathe’ while wearing solely a tight corset and boxer briefs

Out of breath.

Bad Bunny flaunted his figure on Saturday while wearing a tight black corset and a pair of white boxer briefs.

“no puedo respirar…,” he captioned the photo, which translates to, “I can’t breathe,” in English.

It’s the latest thirst trap from the Puerto Rican rapper, who’s been sharing more of himself online since he became a single man.

In February, Bunny, 30, shared a steamy bathtub selfie while strategically covering himself with bubbles.

“baño,” he captioned the risqué snap, which means “bathroom” in English.

Prior to his latest thirst trap, Bunny — born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio — also shared a photo from his Gucci Valigeria campaign, which he did in partnership with his now-ex Kendall Jenner, to his Instagram story.

The “Monaco” singer — who was recently named as one of the official co-chairs of this year’s Met Gala alongside Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya and Chris Hemsworth — dated the supermodel, 28, for less than a year before they reportedly called it quits in December.

“They both knew going into this that it likely wouldn’t be a forever type of relationship and that was mutually understood from the get-go,” a source told People at the time.

However, Bunny and the “Kardashians” star were rumored to have rekindled their romance in January after their romantic vacation to Barbados for New Year’s Eve with friends Justin and Hailey Bieber.

“He’s keen to win her back, and although they’re taking it slow at the minute, nobody would be surprised if they made it official again,” a source told the US Sun.

Jenner started dating Bunny in February 2023.

Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny drops suit after alleged bootlegger removes Salt Lake videos from YouTube

Recording artist kicked off his ‘most wanted tour’ at the delta center in salt lake city on feb. 21.

bad bunny tour photographer

By Tim Vandenack , KSL.com

SAN FRANCISCO — A little over a month after suing a Spanish bootlegger accused of uploading 10 videos of Bad Bunny to YouTube from his Salt Lake City show, the reggaeton performer has dropped the suit.

Benito Antonio Martinez, Bad Bunny's real name, dropped the suit he had filed against Eric Guillermo Madroñal Garrone of Madrid, Spain, on Thursday. The Puerto Rican performer had filed the original lawsuit in U.S. District Court in San Francisco on March 8.

The two-page filing noted that "the infringing videos" had been removed from YouTube and that "plaintiff understands that the videos will not be reinstated." Bad Bunny, though, dismissed the case without prejudice, meaning he could refile.

"Plaintiff reserves the right to refile this action if any one or more of the infringing videos are reinstated or otherwise reuploaded online in any capacity (including but not limited to YouTube, online websites, social media, etc.)," Thursday's court filing reads.

Bad Bunny kicked off his "Most Wanted Tour" at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Feb. 21. In the suit in March, he charged that Madroñal had subsequently posted videos of 10 songs from the Utah show and accused the Spanish man of copyright infringement and violating U.S. bootlegging statutes. The videos, the artist said, would lure YouTube viewers away from Bad Bunny's official YouTube page, impacting his ability to generate ad revenue.

Bad Bunny had sought damages of $150,000 per video, or $1.5 million, or Madroñal's YouTube profits from his postings.

Madroñal, who never formally responded to the suit, had initially defended his actions, describing himself as a cultural news gatherer who engaged in “disseminating musical culture” via his YouTube page. YouTube, nevertheless, removed the videos after Bad Bunny and his legal team sent the California company a “takedown notice.” Madroñal challenged YouTube’s decision, leading to the lawsuit.

At over 12 million people, Moscow is the largest city in Russia and second largest in Europe by population ( Istanbul is #1). An urban, cosmopolitan metropolis with more than enough glitz and glam to cater to the elite, but without losing its fair share of Soviet era roughness around the edges. It can be fast paced, brash, busy, and trendy like other big cities, but it has its blend of West meets Russia atmosphere and beauty that provides plenty of unique interest. The Red Square is as famous as it gets, but there’s so much more to this city, including the most beautiful subway system you’ve ever seen. It would take years to capture all of Moscow, but that means you have an endless amount of areas to discover.

bad bunny tour photographer

So here’s a Street Photography guide so you can be ready to capture all that Moscow has to offer before you even arrive!

  • Patriarch’s Pond
  • Old Arbat Street
  • Maroseyka Street
  • Tverskoy Boulevard

Top 5 Street Spots:

1. red square.

The Red Square is the most famous square in not just Russia, but all of Eastern Europe. The name actually doesn’t come from the color of the bricks or communism, but from the name in Russian, Krásnaya, once meaning “beautiful” before its meaning changed to “red.” This large plaza is what you see on the cover of guide books and magazines for Moscow, with St. Basil’s Cathedral being the center piece next to Lenin’s Mausoleum surrounded by the Kremlin Wall. Of course, the Red Square attracts hordes of tourist due to the main attractions, but all that activity around an interesting atmosphere does provide street photo opportunities. It’s also the central square connecting to the city’s major streets, providing a good starting point to explore outward.

You’ll also find the popular pedestrian only Nikolskaya Street connecting the Red Square to Lubyanka Square. This line of expensive shops includes plenty of activity, while also leading you to another popular square. Filled with history rivaling any city, the Red Square and surrounding areas are the heart and soul of Russia.

2. Patriarch’s Ponds

Patriarch’s Ponds is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Moscow. Despite the name being plural, there’s only one large pond, but it’s worth a visit with your camera. It’s a popular spot for locals and expats to come relax or take a stroll around the pond. You get an interesting mix of young and old too, from young love to “babushkas” feeding pigeons. It’s a very peaceful park atmosphere in one of the nicer areas within the city center, while bringing enough activity for street photography.

The pond is shallow and in the winter becomes a popular spot for ice-skating too. The area is also well-known for the location in the famous Russian novel, The Master and Margarita.

3. Old Arbat (Stary Arbat)

Old Arbat is the most famous pedestrian street in Moscow, and dating back to the 15th century, also one of its oldest. Originally, it was an area of trade, but soon became the most prestigious residential area in Moscow. During the 18th century, Arbat started attracting the city’s scholars and artists, including Alexander Pushkin. Cafes lined the streets and impressive homes filled the neighborhood. Since then, New Arbat street was created as a highway in the area, while Old Arbat was paved for a 1km pedestrian only walkway.

Due to the historic buildings, famous artists that lived here, and the bohemian atmosphere, Old Arbat has become a big attraction for tourists today. Now, there’s a mix of cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, street performers, street merchants and other attractions for visitors, and some locals, to come enjoy. It can get really busy here and there’s usually something interesting going on so it’s a good street to come walk with your camera for guaranteed life.

4. Gorky Park

One of the most famous places in Moscow is Gorky Park. The official name is Maxim Gorky’s Central Park of Culture & Leisure, which gives you an idea of what goes on here. When built, it was the first of its kind in the Soviet Union. Divided into two parts, it stretches along Moscow River. One end contains fair rides, foods stands, tennis courts, a sports club, a lake for boat rides, and more. This end brings more active life due to its number of attractions, while the other end is more relaxed, where you’ll find gardens, trees, older buildings, and an outdoor amphitheater.

bad bunny tour photographer

Gorky Park attracts mostly locals so it’s a good spot to capture the non-tourist side of Moscow life. Muscovites come here to escape the city and unwind in a picturesque setting. The park remains alive outside of the warmer months too, especially when the lake turns into the city’s largest outdoor skating rink. I’d recommend taking the metro out here to spend at least half a day exploring the massive park’s life with your camera.

5. Maroseyka Street

Maroseyka Street is a popular area not too far from the Red Square. The long, winding street turns into Pokrovka and is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars and places to stay. It’s actually where I like to stay when I’m in Moscow due to its location and solid street photography opportunities itself. You have Kitay-gorod station near and if you keep walking southwest, you’ll get to the Red Square. But if you walk northwest, as it changes to Pokrovka, you can find a long street of activity for photography with its own interesting atmosphere.

6. Tverskoy Boulevard

Tverskoy Boulevard is the oldest and longest boulevard in Moscow, beginning at the end of Nikitsky Boulevard, and finishing at Pushkin Square, a spot to come for activity itself. The boulevard is made up of two avenues, with pedestrian walkways in-between. You’ll find grass, shrubbery, trees, benches and more walking it’s almost kilometer length. Many people come here to enjoy some relaxation, walk their dog, or just to use it to walk wherever they’re going. Its center location also provides a nice place to walk with your camera near plenty of other spots you’ll want to check out anyway.

Sample Street Walk:

For a full day of Street Photography, covering some of the best spots, you can follow this sample street walk for Moscow:

  • Start your morning walking around the Red Square (1), while exploring the surrounding area, including Nikolskaya Street
  • Then walk northwest to Patriarch’s Ponds (2) and slowly walk the pond and surrounding area with your camera
  • Next, walk east to the Pushkin Monument and stroll down Tverskoy Boulevard (6)
  • Once Tverskoy Boulevard (6) ends, it will turn into Nikitsky Boulevard. Follow this down until you get to the start of Old Arbat Street (3), across from Arbatskaya station
  • After you’re done walking down Old Arbat Street (3) for more street photography, spend some time checking out Moscow’s beautiful metro stations
  • To finish off the day with more street photography, get off the metro near Red Square (1) again, Maroseyka Street (5) or wherever you’re staying for the night.

3 Things I’ll Remember about Shooting in Moscow:

1. museum metro.

The Moscow metro system was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union and today includes 203 stations across 340km of routes. The elaborate system has some of the deepest stations in the world too, with escalators that seem to go on forever. None of this is what makes it so special, though. Many of its stations feel like stepping inside a museum, making it without a doubt the most interesting and beautiful metro system I’ve been in.

bad bunny tour photographer

When built, Stalin wanted to make the metro stations “palaces for the people” with marble, chandeliers, and grand architecture. The best part is the variety of architecture and styles used, making many of the stations a completely different experience visually. You could easily spend a whole day traveling the stations and there are even tours available for people who wish to do just that. My advice, though, would be just to buy a ticket and hop on and off at different stations, while exploring different lines. The museum-like surrounding mixed with the crowds of characters can make for a great photography experience.

bad bunny tour photographer

Since there are so many stations, here are some of my favorites to check out:

  • Novoslobodskaya
  • Mayakovskaya
  • Elektrozavodskaya
  • Komsomolskaya
  • Ploschad Revolyutsii
  • Dostoyevskaya
  • Prospekt Mira

2. Moscow is Big

It’s no secret that Moscow is a big city, but it can feel even bigger with how spread out much of it is. This is especially true if you compare it to cities outside of Asia. If I compared it to cities in Europe, I’d probably say only Istanbul would warrant more time to really discover the depths of this city. Most only explore around the Red Square and surrounding area, but that is such a small part of the city. Although, that central area does give you plenty to see on its own.

bad bunny tour photographer

Fortunately, I had a good friend living in the city to show me around, but it opened up my eyes even more to how much there is to discover in Moscow. It’s a big city with a variety of atmosphere that can take you from “east” to “west” and trendy to rugged depending on where you go. I’d imagine you’d have to live here a while to really know the city.

3. Cosmopolitan Mix of East meets West

Modern skyscrapers mixed with amazing architecture, a world-class metro system with museum-like beauty, trendy fashion and chic clubs, Moscow is a rich mix of Russian culture and history in a more western cosmopolitan package. There is a push to keep the Russian culture, while also pushing forward with a modern metropolis the whole world will envy. This comes with an impressive skyline, that continues to grow, and endless modernities, but with soviet nostalgia and atmosphere mixed in for good measure.

bad bunny tour photographer

Mixed in with this grand western cosmopolitan atmosphere, is a strong national pride in Russia. This includes their famous leader, Vladimir Putin. Maybe no other place will you see a country’s leader more often. All over, from the pricey tourist shops to the underground walkway stalls, you’ll find goods with Putin’s likeness covering them. From t-shirts to magnets to Matryoshka dolls. There’s a strong national pride that can be seen around the city, which also extends to their leader. Moscow is many things. It’s East meets West, modernizations meets Soviet era, and a whole lot more.

What To Do For a Street Photography Break?:

Eat at a stolovaya.

Stolovayas are Russian cafeterias that became popular in the Soviet days. You grab a tray and walk down the line of freshly prepared local dishes, and select whatever you want from the chefs. They’re usually inexpensive and a much better value than restaurants, while giving you the opportunity to try from a wide selection of everyday Russian food. They’re also very tasty. I always include some borsch on my tray and go from there. The places themselves are all over Moscow and usually come with Soviet-era aesthetics to complete the experience.

Street Safety Score: 7

*As always, no place is completely safe! So when I talk about safety, I’m speaking in general comparison to other places. Always take precaution, be smart, observe your surroundings and trust your instincts anywhere you go!

Being the 2nd largest city in Europe with over 12 million people, you’re going to have your dangerous areas, but for the most part, it feels safe walking around. Russia is statistically higher in crime compared to most of Europe, but this generally doesn’t apply to tourists and visitors. Around the Red Square and surrounding city center, you should feel completely safe walking around. Pick pocketing can happen, but no more than other touristic places. I always explore Moscow freely without coming across too much to worry about. It’s a spread out city, though, so of course it matters where you are. Just use basic street smarts, know where you are and Moscow shouldn’t give you a problem.

bad bunny tour photographer

People’s Reaction Score: 7

Moscow is fast paced, big city life, which usually means people aren’t too concerned with you, or your camera. I don’t find people notice or pay much attention to me when I’m out taking photos in Moscow. For the most part, people just go about their day. You shouldn’t get too many looks or concern. But it can depend on the area you are in. The more you stick out, the more you might get noticed with suspicions. I’ve never had any problems in Moscow, or Russia, but just be careful who you’re taking a photo of if you get out of the city center. Other than that, it’s about average for reactions.

Street Tips:

Learn the alphabet .

Much of Moscow, including the metro system, doesn’t use english. The Russian alphabet uses letters from the Cyrillic script, which if you aren’t familiar with it and don’t know the sounds, can be hard to decipher the words. This is most important for street names and metro stops when trying to get around. It can save confusion and make it easier getting around if you learn the basic alphabet. At the very least then, you can sound out the words to see which are similar in the english conversion, which can help matching them to maps. When out shooting street photography, getting around is as important as anything. So save yourself some time and frustration by learning the Russian Alphabet.

Use the metro

While Saint-Petersburg feels very walkable for a city its size, Moscow can feel very spread out, even for its bigger size. Outside of the Red Square area, you can have plenty of walking before getting anywhere very interesting, so you’ll need to take the metro a lot if you really want to explore the city. Maps are deceiving here too, it will always be further than it looks.

bad bunny tour photographer

Another reason it’s less walkable than Saint-Petersburg is its completely different set-up. Moscow’s streets are mostly contstructed in rings with narrow, winding streets in-between. This is common with medieval city cities that used to be confined by walls, but you usually don’t have it in a city this massive. Saint-Petersburg has a more grid-like pattern that also uses the canals to help you know your way around. When it comes to navigating on foot in Moscow, it can be more difficult, so bring a map and take the metro when needed. It’s why Moscow’s metro carries more passengers per day than the London and Paris subways combined.

Explore other areas if you have time

Moscow is really big. While most people stay around the Red Square within the Boulevard Ring, there’s so much more to the city. I covered some other spots outside of this circle, but if you really want to see the city, you’ll need time. If you do have time, some other areas I’d check out first are Zamoskvarechye, along some of the south and western Moscow.

For some more inspiration, you can look through the Street Photography of Moscow photographer Artem Zhitenev  and check out 33 of my photos taken in Moscow .

Conclusion:

Moscow’s name brings a certain mystique, but once you’re there it might bring a different atmosphere than you expect. It’s big and sprawling, but beautiful in many ways. It can feel like a European capital on a grand scale, but you can definitely find its Russian side in there.

bad bunny tour photographer

The urban sprawl of Moscow can be intimidating, but give it enough time and you’ll be rewarded with plenty to discover. All with the world’s best metro system to take you around.

I hope this guide can help you start to experience some of what Moscow contains. So grab your camera and capture all that Moscow has to offer for Street Photography!
