At the pointy end of the golf experience, you’ve got four courses in Australia’s top 40 to choose from, but it would be unfair to rule out other courses given time and opportunity.

The team at 19th Hole Golf Tours knows the best golf courses, day trips, attractions and accommodation deals in Adelaide. We would love to share our expertise with you and would be delighted to put together your golf holiday package.

Glenelg is a beautifully presented golf course that celebrates the good shots, maybe even average ones, but will rain hell upon your score should you take on parts of the course not marked for mowing.  It’s a pure test of golf for all levels, but not a place to fear for higher handicappers. The mantra for play here is “Fairways good, long grass bad”.

Royal Adelaide

Royal Adelaide is consistently in the world’s top 100 courses. South Australia’s most iconic golf course because it has everything, including a commuter train which passes through the course during the day – it is quiet though, so no excuses here for the fast, subtle greens. Royal Adelaide is literally unmissable for every golfer.

As you would expect from one of Alister Mackenzie’s disciples, this is a gorgeous place to play golf on an utterly beautiful track. The clubhouse is magnificent but fails to overshadow the golf course, which may be described as a genuine examination of your golfing ability.

The Grange East is a Greg Norman course and is vastly different to Clayton redesign of the West course. The course is both enjoyable and challenging.

Every Spring, Adelaide morphs into the ‘Festival City’, playing host to world-renowned Arts and Fringe festivals.

The city of Adelaide in South Australia is already recognised as a world leader in a number of areas. It regularly ranks as one of the world’s top 10 most liveable cities. Every Spring, it morphs into the ‘Festival City’, playing host to world-renowned Arts and Fringe festivals, as well as the unique WOMADelaide world music festival. What is not such common knowledge (yet!), is that  golf in Adelaide  is developing into a major domestic and international attraction, thanks to a unique golf & wine product called the ‘ Four Reds ’.

What is a Four Reds Golf & Wine holiday?

Adelaide’s four most prestigious golf clubs have partnered with four of South Australia’s best wineries and Golf Explorer to offer the ultimate golf and wine holiday packages.

Play at Royal Adelaide Golf Club , Grange Golf Club , Kooyonga Golf Club and Glenelg Golf Club , and at the end of each 18 holes, enjoy a bottle of specially selected premium red wine – each bottle valued over $100 – along with a tasting plate sourced from the gourmet producers of South Australia.

Four Reds Golf and Wine packages include golf, accommodation, transfers to and from the airport and hotel and golf courses, as well as gourmet wine and food experiences after each round. Any  golf in Adelaide  package can be tailored to meet the requirements of particular groups.

What makes a Four Reds golf holiday so unique?

A  Four Reds golf & wine tour is a convenient golf and city break in one! The size and accessibility of golf courses, wineries and tourism experiences in Adelaide make a Four Reds golf holiday work so well.  Known as the 20-minute city, transfers from the airport to a beach or city hotel, and then from the hotel to each of the 4 golf courses, take only 20 minutes.  It is rare in Adelaide to encounter traffic outside morning and evening rush hour. After all, who wants to be stuck in traffic on their holiday!

On a Four Reds break, you can stay in a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of vibrant Adelaide city, in the knowledge that your morning transfer to the golf course will take less than half an hour.  Lean on Golf Explorer’s insider knowledge to book yourself and your group into the best restaurants Adelaide has to offer, and supply recommendations for coolest laneway bars.

How popular are Four Reds Golf and wine packages?

In 2019 (pre-covid), more than 500 Australian and international golfers played  golf in Adelaide through a Four Red package – many were returning clients. Even during pandemic hit 2020, demand for Four Reds holidays remained strong, with low-population Adelaide emerging as a relative safe haven of a city.

Why do groups love Four Reds golf in Adelaide?

In our experience, groups of 8 to 16 golfers tend to enjoy the Four Reds golf and wine experience the most because it’s a fantastically social. Picture finishing an intense 18-holes and then heading straight to the club house to enjoy generous artisan tasting platters and some of South Australia’s finest red wines. The perfect setting for some post round banter!

Groups also enjoy the fact that the logistics for a Four Reds golf tour are well and truly taken care of, meaning they simply have to turn up and enjoy it! Transfers, food and wine in the club house and even restaurant bookings and additional tours are all seamlessly organised by Golf Explorer.

What is the most popular Four Reds golf & wine package?

The  Four Reds Vintage Experience  is the most commonly booked package. Inclusions are as follows:

  • 6 nights’ at a 4 or 5 star hotel/apartments in Adelaide
  • Daily breakfasts
  • Private transfers (airport, hotel and golf clubs)
  • 4 rounds of golf (a single round at each of the Four Reds clubs)
  • Special Food & Wine experience at each golf club after your round (includes a premium local wine and a seasonal tasting plate)
  • Full day private wine tour to the Barossa Valley including VIP access to 3 wineries exclusive to Four Reds clients only.
  • Collect and return to your hotel
  • Sightseeing and restaurant recommendations

What is the best time of year to play golf in Adelaide?

Adelaide experiences hot, dry summers (Dec – Feb) and mild winters (June, July, August).  Four Reds golf packages can be played year-round, although if you are booking in the summer months, you would want to secure early morning tee times to beat the heat of the day.  If you are booking in the winter months, expect showers and bring warm clothing.

The shoulder months of March till May and September to December are ideal for playing  golf in Adelaide .  Expect pleasant temperatures and dry sunny clear-blue sky days.

So, if you are a golfer looking to organise a much-needed group golf holiday, you would be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable, social golf and wine experience, than Adelaide’s Four Reds.  Book now!

Memorial Park offers refreshed look, creative challenge in new spot on PGA TOUR calendar

Change Text Size

HOUSTON – Memorial Park Golf Course is a public access haven for the Houston golf community. Locals never pay more than $38, and juniors play for just $10 during the week.

For the fourth consecutive season, Memorial Park will have its week in the limelight as host of the Texas Children’s Houston Open. But it offers a slightly different canvas than the PGA TOUR pros have seen in the past.

The previous three events at Memorial Park were contested in the fall, featuring Bermuda grass turf conditions. With the event moving to a spring date, the course was overseeded last fall – an intricate process that has transitioned Memorial Park to a challenge that reminds one of Augusta National, as players ready for the Masters in two weeks.

Memorial Park is a lengthy test, a par-70 that plays to 7,435 yards, and the Bermuda grass had made for unpredictable lies in the rough, both off the fairway – maybe a flier lie, maybe requiring a hack-out – and around the greens, necessitating chunk-and-run type shots with the ball sitting down.

Memorial Park’s rough is now cut at just 1.25 inches (overseeded rye), in contrast to 2-inch Bermuda rough from 2020-22. The venue, opened in 1936 and renovated by Tom Doak in 2019, offers sprawling contours around the greens, with sharp elevation changes that elicit thoughtful decision-making.

The Texas Children’s Houston Open now presents a test where creativity can fully shine, in the spirit of Augusta National, and players embrace it.

2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open returns to spring

“There will be some guys that look silly around the greens because the greens are a challenging design,” said Peter Malnati, last week’s winner at the Valspar Championship. “But you're going to have really pure lies around the green, so you'll have the option to play different kinds of shots and won't be able to blame the turf for anything that goes wrong.

“So in theory it should make the course play a little easier, but there are still plenty of elements out there that'll be challenging.”

Earlier this week, players raved about the immaculate conditions presented at Memorial Park – “Aesthetically it’s a lot prettier,” said world No. 4 Wyndham Clark – as the overseeded rye supplants the Bermuda grass, which never goes completely dormant but can slow down quite a bit.

The rough is much more playable, enticing players to attack the greens boldly, often with mid-irons, as Memorial Park features five par 4s that play 490 yards or longer. This will also encourage more aggressive play off the tee, as the penalty for errant shots is less severe.

“It used to be some holes where it was really, really important to hit the fairway, especially with the Bermuda rough, and now there's not as much of a premium placed on that,” said world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who looks to become the first player to win three straight PGA TOUR starts since 2017. “You'll see a lot more drivers, people hitting it really far, and it will be much more of I'd say a second shot golf course this time around.”

Added Texas native Chandler Phillips: “This is a bomber’s paradise.”

Overseeding requires opening the canopy of Bermuda grass – “That means you scalp it and make it really ugly,” said Memorial Park Superintendent Parker Henry, who previously worked at Quail Hollow Club, longtime host venue of the Wells Fargo Championship. “You throw the seed down, use several different types of machines and spreaders – tractor-driven and push spreading – and you hope for no rain so you can control the water, and you give it about seven to 10 days, and it starts to wake up and you see the sprout coming. Next thing you know, you’re on your way to overseed.”

Overseeding is rarely seen in Houston-area golf, said Henry, who added that Memorial Park regulars have enjoyed the change – which has also improved the course’s visual aesthetic for public play. Memorial Park, twice the size of New York City’s Central Park, is a hub of activity for the United States’ fourth largest city. The course sees approximately 55,000 rounds annually, said (Houston) Astros Golf Foundation President Giles Kibbe.

This week, local recreational players will see TOUR pros adjust to Memorial Park’s new conditions, just as they did in recent months. It’s a unique bridge between players and fans that isn’t often seen on TOUR.

“Golf needs to be as accessible as possible,” said Sahith Theegala, a Los Angeles native who has adopted Houston as a second home. “It's awesome that the week after this tournament that anyone can go out and play and see how hard the golf course is set up and the conditions that we play on. I think it's important for the fans to see exactly what a PGA TOUR test is.

“There's got to be something like a fan challenge, or I think it would be awesome to see a scratch handicap go out and play like the Monday after a tournament, keep the same conditions and see what they would shoot just to put it into perspective how hard a PGA TOUR golf course is.”

They have no shortage of creative options to pursue at the new-look Memorial Park.

2024 Masters odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions from advanced golf model that called 10 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the masters 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks for augusta national.

4 reds golf tour

Hideki Matsuyama will try to snag his second green jacket when the Masters 2024 tees off Thursday, April 11. The 32-year-old won at Augusta National Golf Course in 2021, becoming the first Asian-born player to win the highly-coveted major competition. He found his footing in 2024 when he won the Genesis Invitational, then finished 12th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and sixth at the Players Championship. Despite his past success at Augusta, Matsuyama is a long shot in the 2024 Masters odds.

Defending champion Jon Rahm is 13-1, while world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the 2024 Masters favorite at 5-1. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy is 10-1 among the 2024 Masters contenders. Other 2024 Masters golfers include Viktor Hovland (21-1), Brooks Koepka (21-1) and Justin Thomas (28-1). Before locking in any 2024 Masters picks of your own, be sure to see the 2024 Masters golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament. McClure's model predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000. The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022. In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Masters 2024 field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 Masters predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Masters: Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion and one of the co-favorites, fails to complete the career grand slam and barely cracks the top five at Augusta National. The world's No. 2-ranked golfer is off to a rough start in 2024, with his highest finish through his first five starts being 19th at the Players Championship.

Putting was an issue for McIlroy at the start of the season, as he previously ranked 129th in that area (-0.246). While he has improved to 83rd on the PGA Tour (0.036) and his total shots gained (0.610) is 40th, he is still 123rd in shots gained approaching the green (-0.176). While there appears to be small improvements in his game, his finishes this season are why the model is low on him.

Another surprise: Xander Schauffele, a 24-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Schauffele came up short of the biggest PGA Tour win of his career at the Players Championship, finishing in a three-way tie for second place behind Scottie Scheffler. He held the lead midway through the final round before a pair of bogeys undid his chances.

Schauffele has been a regular contender in major championships, posting 11 top-10 finishes in 26 career starts. He won the Tour Championship in 2017, an Olympic gold medal in 2021 and the Travelers Championship in 2022. Schauffele is still trying to nail down his first major title, and SportsLine's model believes he has an opportunity at Augusta National.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 Masters picks

The model is also targeting six other golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer to make a strong run at the green jacket. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 Masters, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the Masters 2024 odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected Masters leaderboard, all from the model that's nailed 10 golf majors, including last year's Masters and Open Championship .
