Pairings and tee times for the opening round of the European Tour's season-ending DP World Tour Championship have been announced, which will held on the Earth Course at Jumeriah Golf Estates in Dubai.

Twenty-eight-year-old Swede Jesper Svensson won his maiden DP World Tour title in Singapore by matching the course record and prevailing in a three-hole-playoff.

He shot a 9-under 63 at Laguna National Golf Resort Club to climb the leaderboard to 17-under, where Kiradech Aphibarnrat also finished after 72 holes.

Svensson birdied the 17th and 18th holes to grab the clubhouse lead, while Aphibarnrat made an eagle later to tie.

Then, in the playoff, both birdied the first playoff hole—the par-5 18th—and then exchanged a pair of pars the second time around.

The third time was the charm for Svensson, a DP World Tour rookie. Aphibarnrat air-mailed his third shot into the 18th and thus settled for bogey while the Swede two-putted for par and the victory.

“It’s been a long journey,” Svensson said after the win per the DP World Tour.

“To win on my first season out here, I couldn’t have dreamt of it. It’s always been a dream to be a winner on the DP World Tour and to achieve it feels amazing.”

The Swede turned professional in the summer of 2019 and joined the Nordic Golf League, two levels below the DP World Tour in European professional golf. After winning the season finale in 2020, he was promoted to the Challenge Tour, the DP World Tour’s equivalent of the Korn Ferry Tour .

He continued to rise up the rankings, finishing 36th at the end of the 2021 Challenge Tour season, which afforded him some playing opportunities on the DP World Tour the following year.

But his first win on the Challenge Tour did not come until May 2023, when he finished one stroke ahead of Branden Stone at the B-NL Challenge Trophy in Holland.

That, coupled with two runner-up finishes late in the year, helped Svensson finish 5th in the Challenge Tour rankings, elevating him to the DP World Tour for 2024. He has since finished runner-up twice, at the Investec South African Open in December and, most recently, at the Bahrain Championship.

“Combined with Challenge Tour last year and the beginning of this season, I’ve had five second-place spots in the last year,” Svensson added.

“I really wanted to come out on top here.”

Svensson began his final round five shots off the lead, but quickly made up ground with birdies at the 1st and 2nd. He followed those up with an eagle at the par-5 3rd. Two more birdies at the 6th and 8th holes ensued, the latter being a chip-in.

He then dropped two shots at the 9th and 10th holes, bringing him back to 11-under for the championship.

Yet, Svensson bounced back with birdies on the 12th and 13th, which gave him a one-shot lead.

Then, he hit the shot of the day at the par-5 14th, reaching the green in two as his ball settled eight feet away from the pin. He then poured it in for eagle, and suddenly, Svensson held a three-shot lead.

“On 14, we were thinking about laying up,” Svensson said.

“We both said, ‘No, we’re not finishing second again,’ and it was the best shot of the week.”

The move paid off, as Svensson bogeyed the 15th but finished birdie-birdie to shoot 63. But he needed extra holes to get that first victory, and luckily for him, he prevailed.

Other players in contention included Matthieu Pavon , who finished fifth, and Paul Casey of LIV Golf , who finished solo sixth. Shane Lowry also played, tying for 29th.

2024 Masters odds, picks, predictions: Tiger Woods projection by golf model that nailed last two winners

Tiger woods, an 82-time pga tour champion, is expected to be part of the 2024 masters field at augusta national golf club.

With Tiger Woods bypassing the Players Championship, all signs are pointing to him entering the 2024 Masters, which begins on Thursday, April 11 from Augusta National. Woods last appeared in a PGA Tour event in February, but he had to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational due to illness. Woods also withdrew from the Masters in 2023 due to plantar fasciitis. Woods is a five-time Masters champion and has won 82 career events on the PGA Tour. According to the latest 2024 Masters odds, Woods is going off as a 160-1 longshot. Scottie Scheffler is the favorite at 5-1, while Rory McIlroy is 10-1 on the PGA odds board for the first major of the year. SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. 

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Top 2024 Masters predictions 

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Masters: Justin Thomas, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Thomas has been consistent this season. He's finished 12th or better in four of his first five starts, which includes a third-place finish at the American Express in January.

Thomas has secured those positive results thanks to his effectiveness on the greens. The two-time major champion entered the Players Championship ranked 15th in putting average (1.710) and 28th in putts per round (28.46). Thomas' ability to drain putts has helped the 30-year-old average 5.18 birdies per round this season, the second-best mark on the PGA Tour. Those impressive stats, plus his long odds, make Thomas a strong play for your 2024 Masters picks, according to the model.

The model has also examined where Tiger finishes. Woods is 48 and surgeries on his neck, back and legs have clearly taken their toll. However, he defied all odds during his win at the 2019 Masters after having spinal fusion surgery and his course navigation and ball-striking that shined that week.

Woods hit 80.6% of greens in regulation on his way to a 15th major championship victory and will try to tap back into his iron play and course knowledge in 2023. However, Woods has only played seven tournaments with world ranking points assigned over the last two years and has fallen all the way to No. 921.  The model just locked in its Tiger Woods Masters picks here .

Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry to team at Zurich Classic of New Orleans

The Irish are headed to New Orleans.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will play together at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the two-man team event contested at TPC Louisiana, April 20-23. It will mark McIlroy’s tournament debut, while Lowry will make his fifth appearance and first since 2022.

This will be the Irishmen’s first team event together on the PGA TOUR. They were teammates on the last two European Ryder Cup teams. McIlroy and Lowry lost their only match as a duo, a 4-and-3 loss to Tony Finau and Harris English in Four-ball at the 2021 Ryder Cup.

The Zurich Classic’s first and third rounds utilize a Four-ball (best ball) format, while the second and fourth rounds are played as Foursomes (alternate shot).

The friendship between McIlroy, 34, and Lowry, 36, stretches the entirety of their professional careers. The two represented Ireland at the 2007 European Amateur Team Championships. McIlroy turned professional later that year with Lowry two years behind him. The duo has grown particularly close in recent years. Both live in South Florida. Their wives and kids are friends.

McIlroy echoed a similar sentiment in an interview with the Irish Independent last fall .

“I feel over the last couple of years that Shane's been one of my biggest advocates. He's a great person to be around, and a really good influence on me,” he said. "There's parts of Shane that I really love; I see how he lives his life; I see how he is with his girls, and the relationships he has with the people from home that are still close to him.

McIlroy added, "He enjoys his life and everything he's worked for, and I think spending time with him makes me a better version of myself."

That will be the goal at the Zurich Classic, too.

Lowry has amassed two top-five finishes in six TOUR starts this season. He finished T4 at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches and followed it with a solo third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. Lowry is 25th in the FedExCup and 34th in the Official World Golf Ranking. Lowry’s best finish at the Zurich Classic was 13th in 2022.

McIlroy has four top-25 finishes this season, highlighted by a T19 at THE PLAYERS Championship. It's a solid but unremarkable start for a player who expects those top-25s to be top-fives every week. Maybe playing alongside a close friend will spark him. McIlroy is 58th in the FedExCup and maintains his position at No. 2 in the OWGR.

As for their competition – more teams will be announced in the coming weeks. Among the teams already revealed are defending champions Nick Hardy and Davis Riley. Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris announced their partnership earlier this week.
