Louis Vuitton's 45 Scent "Perfume Atlas" Is A Luxury Fragrance Fantasy

Louis Vuitton's "Perfume Atlas" collection is straight out of a fragrance dream containing a whooping 45 different scents in its white box set. Created by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, Master Perfumer of Louis Vuitton, the 400-page book follows his global journey of searching for and sourcing the ingredients used for the brand's fragrances.

The atlas also includes words by respected perfumery author Lionel Paillès, illustrations by Aurore de la Morinerie and photographs by Sébastien Zanella to create a sensorial experience for readers with over 200 watercolor depictions. It also details how Belletrud harvest, extracts, distills and blends the ingredients to achieve Louis Vuitton's famed fragrances.

Belletrud's fragrance journey in the book crosses continents and seasons depicting how he extracts oud Assam notes from Bangladesh, bergamot notes from Calabria and rose de mai notes from Grasse. His journey isn't only illustrated through the raw materials he gathered to turn into the finest of fragrances but also described in the relationships he built with the farmers who nurture the materials.

Once the Master Perfumer has selected his ingredients of choice he brings them back to Grasse, France to refine them before taking them to Les Fontaines Parfumées, his workshop where he carefully crafts each scent.

The brand is offering consumers a limited-edition box set that includes 45 vials containing extractions of the raw materials that were selected by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud during his global journeys along with the "Perfume Atlas."

Fruit fragrances have already seen a surge in popularity at the first glance of UV rays with an increase in search, according to Spate in its Fragrance Trends Report, for juicy peach, citrus and mango notes. There is also interest in strawberry, pear and coconut-led compositions.

Rich Pulman, New Business Manager at LOOKFANTASTIC, explains “Gourmand fragrances, or more simply those with honey, chocolate, vanilla and cherry scents, are more popular than ever” with the retailer’s Managing Director, Keely Gough attributing this to the lockdown years. She reveals, “The overlap between the beauty and food and drink industries have been prevalent for quite some time. Largely driven as a result of the pandemic, we’ve since seen more consumers seek solace in brand experiences that lend themselves to sensorial and visual cues, as well as nostalgia”.

When it comes to selecting the fragrance for your sun-soaked exploits, the most important thing is not to be scared to experiment. Whether this means stepping out of your scent safe space to mix up your signature stalwart or trying unexpected combinations by layering up to create an aroma that is unique and all your own.
