Derrick Rossignol

Joji kept his strong run going last year with Smithereens , his third album and third to reach at least the top five on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also features “ Glimpse Of Us ,” his first top-10 single that’s currently approaching a billion plays on Spotify, with about 931 million at the moment. So, there’s a lot for Joji fans to be excited about, and now there’s something else: He’s going on tour this fall and he’s taking some special guests with him.

He made the announcement with a comedic video featuring elderly people at a speed dating event.

Joji has worn many hats since his first brush with fame, but the current mantle of off-kilter R&B superstar seems to be suiting him quite nicely. This time, the announcement isn't accompanied by a new single; instead, Joji dropped a video to announce this run of North American dates. It begins September 29 in Houston's Toyota Center and crisscrosses the continent a few times before ending in Orlando, FL on November 8. Check out the teaser and the rest of the dates below.

Recent tour reviews

JOji had great energy and imagery on the screen behind him to add to the mood of his music. Joji's crowd interaction was him sharing chips and dip with people in the front rows. Unfortunately his mic went out for a bit so one song was missed but then he came back already to go. He sang his key songs, most memorably 'Slow Dancing in the Dark'. I came for the opener Phum Viphurit who was unreal live and had such a upbeat performance and crowd inclusion.

-the audio was messed up and no one could hear the song sanctuary. It was even more messed up because joji himself didnt know we couldnt hear him so he continued the song until the end. So ultimately, i didnt get to hear my artist sing my fav song so I was super bummed.

-they didnt sell merch so that was pretty upsetting.

-the show ended really early and he didn't sing his new release???

-overall the show was very short and wish the audio was working properly. I cant believe the sound system people allowed him to continue singing the entire song when clearly it wasnt working. So disappointed.

also sidenote since we can’t reply to reviews, no one here should be complaining about price of admission. Pre-sale tickets were about $25 and at door tickets were $30. I bought 2 tickets at door for $60 and from what I saw, only about 10 people bought their tickets there. Do not complain about buying your $100+ tickets from somewhere else as that is not Joji’s fault whatsoever. in addition to this i saw a review about general admission pushing past VIP. i was one of the first people (like 4th) in the general admission line and when i walked in most VIP were crowded in the middle which allowed me to get to a corner near the front that only had about 6 VIPs in front of me. if anyone who wasn’t VIP was trying to push past you it’s your responsibility to be more assertive on telling them to back off. Do not blame Joji on problems you could have dealt with, thanks.

Joji brings the crowd together in his L.A. show of the Pandemonium Tour

The r&b, lo-fi and trip hop singer-songwriter and rapper takes to the crypto.com arena for his third tour.

Japanese-Australian artist Joji takes the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for his fourth show in the Pandemonium tour . The show opened with SavageRealm , Lil Toe and Kenny Beats .

Before he was known as Joji, George Miller went by two pseudonyms, Pink Guy and Filthy Frank . He launched a YouTube channel with his Filthy Frank persona, which consisted of different challenges and rap songs. With this, Pink Guy was his eccentric dancing and singing alter-ego.

Before shelving his YouTube channel, Joji put out an album under Pink Guy which ended up hitting number nine on Billboard’s U.S. Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums.

In 2017, Joji joined 88rising, a music collective that supports artists of Asian descent. He went on to release several songs and had his first live performance as Joji during the same year. In November of that year, he released his EP, In Tongues , and the rest was history.

Kicking things off in Texas, Joji’s Pandemonium Fall World tour encompasses most of the states before making its way to Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and more. The much anticipated tour is leading many fans to believe that this could result in the making of a new album very soon.

After a night of emotions and eye-catching visuals that left people satisfied, Joji showed his appreciation for L.A. multiple times throughout the show.

“You guys here in L.A. are crazy,” he said on stage. “This crowd is just so awesome.”

Starting off his set with “Sanctuary,” the 2020 song from the album “Nectar,” Joji takes the crowd through quite the night.

“I feel like I’m not in my body,” said Beulah Kure, Joji fan who attended the concert. “You know when you walk out of a really good movie and you feel so inspired to take over the world, that’s how I feel right now.”

According to fellow Joji fan Marissa Brown, the concert left everyone feeling more connected with Joji’s music and the people around them.

“I realized that the people around us are all kind of mutually feeling the same,” said Brown. “I feel like he brings us together. He just makes you feel whole at the end.”

Aside from the setlist and the high emotions in the arena, the visuals were another aspect of Joji’s set that people took note of.

“I loved the visuals, the cubes, like the optical illusions going on,” said Kure. “That was really good.”

The stage consisted of multiple cubes, which were used as projectors to change visuals for each song and as reflectors throughout the night. They were also used as boxes for the musicians to stand on. At the beginning of the show, the center cube rose up to reveal Joji to the crowd.

Brown acknowledges this as well, saying that the effects elevated Joji’s on-stage presence and brought the show to life.

“I think the on-stage presence of him and then also just the effects that are on stage just feel very alive,” said Brown.

Both Kure and Brown agree that the overall energy of Joji at the Crypto.com Arena is what really brought this show to life and left them with a sense of fulfillment..

“I feel like we were surrounded by people who were passionate about the music, which made the whole energy just feel so wholesome and safe,” said Kure.

“We’re kind of mutually feeling the same, that kind of brings us together as a whole. I just thought that was really nice,” added Brown.

Joji ended the show with his most recent hit, “Glimpse of Us, ” leaving much of the crowd standing, waving their phone flashlights in the air and screaming out the lyrics at the top of their lungs.

After performing in L.A., Joji headed over to the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 7.

From YouTube Popularity to Worldwide Stardom

Joji, whose birth name is George Kusunoki Miller, stands as a true master in blending his distinct musical style.

He fuses trip-hop and lo-fi at the core, enriched by traces of electronic, folk, R&B, and trap, amassing him a substantial global fanbase.

The name “Joji” comes from the Japanese pronunciation of George. He has also used the stage names Filthy Frank and Pink Guy. However, what separates Joji from his other pseudonyms is that Joji isn’t a character.

Joji told Billboard, “I guess that’s the difference. Joji’s just me .”

At 18, Joji made a significant leap from Japan to the United States. Shortly after, he unveiled The Filthy Frank Show on YouTube, showcasing not only his exceptional talent but also his brand of humor, earning widespread acclaim.

In 2017, he shifted to a full-time music career, adopting his current moniker under the esteemed 88rising label.

2017 marked the inception of his musical journey with the release of his debut EP “In Tongues”.

Riding on that wave of success, subsequent to his debut EP, Joji released his first album, Ballads 1, in 2018. Ballads 1 further confirmed the artist’s musical genius, earning him the No. 3 spot on the Billboard 200 and gold certification in 2020.

He collaborates with other Asian acts as well. Work done with 88rising labelmates Rich Brian and Higher Brothers on songs such as “Midsummer Madness” and “Introvert” serve as a few worthy mentions among the list of collaborations he has been involved in.

His artistic progression continued with the unveiling of his sophomore album, ‘Nectar,’ in 2020.

Like Ballads 1, Nectar was certified gold, thanks to the top-tier quality of the 18-track production, in which Joji also played an instrumental role.

His latest track “Glimpse of Us,” from the album Smithereens secured its position as his top-ranking entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song is a sentimental reflection on a past romance and the tight grip it has that poses a threat to the love of the present.
