The watering hole.

The 300,000 square-foot water park has the 34-foot tall Adventure Island Tree house with 17 levels and 105 play stations that is sure to entertain all ages. Coral Park Reef Ride is a 600-foot gentle flowing lazy river. In addition, there are exciting water slides off the Typhoon Rush Tower and a children's play pool. For adults who want to escape, the waterpark has an adult only pool and swim up bar with island music.

An adjacent family entertainment center offers Montego Raceway go-kart track, bumper boat pond and Castaway Island 18-hole miniature golf Course.

The Watering Hole also offers guests a unique experience of feeding the many animals in their Petting Zoo.

From Cleveland take Interstate 90 until it turns into Route 2. Follow over the Edison Bay Bridge to Route 269 Lakeside Marblehead (first exit after bridge). From Toledo take Route 2 East and veer to your left on Route 269 (Last exit before Edison Bay Bridge) to Monsoon Lagoon Waterpark. Parking is free.

About this activity

The Watering Hole houses a number of fun and entertaining activites to spend the day as a family.  

Go round and round with Typhoon Rush - a slippery curvy slide to keep you cool in summer, as well as Coral Reef - a fun and relaxing tube ride which takes you under some fun water features!  

Adventure Island treehouse is full of slides and areas to play - just watch out for that tipping bucket!

If you need to dry off, Montego Bay Raceway will allow you to zoom around with your friends, trying to get past the finish line first, otherwise try and get that hole in one (you can do it!) on Castaway Island.  

There is also a fun and colorful arcade with the latest games to entertain kids of all ages. 

Don't forget to allow time to visit the safari and petting zoo - great for kids to come face to face with some amazing animals!

Probably the only time you will want to get caught up in a Monsoon!

The watering hole safari and waterpark faq’s, i’m hungry can i get food at the watering hole safari and waterpark.

Unfortunately you cannot bring in any outside food or drink into the park, except empty water bottles and you can re-fill these inside the park. They have a concession stand selling pizza, burgers, salads, fries, ice cream, soda and more! Also, their swim up tiki bar has frozen daiquiris, kids virgin daiquiris, beer, wine and snacks to purchase!

Pioneer Waterland & Dry Fun Park: Chardon

Located in Chardon about 40 miles east of Cleveland , the Pioneer Waterland & Dry Fun Park offers both wet and wild fun and plenty of dry activities to boot. Within the water play area at the park, guests will find several waterslides that measure six stories high, a lazy inner-tube ride akin to a lazy river and a 6-acre lake to paddle boats. You can also check out the activity pond to play water volleyball and basketball and traverse its water obstacle course. The Kidsland fun zone section of the park features other water attractions geared toward children.

Pioneer Waterland even has its own campsite, so you can bring your RV to the park or book a tent for several days of fun in the sun.

Castaway Bay Water Park: Sandusky

Less than 3 miles from the thrill rides of the main Cedar Point location, Castaway Bay lets guests get out of the sun for some water fun inside, bringing a taste of the Caribbean to Sandusky. Major attractions at Cedar Point's indoor water park include a variety of pools for all ages, a water coaster whose jets launch you uphill, several body slides and multiple hot tubs for relaxation. This small municipal water park promises fun with its splash pad, large water playground, two waterslides, pool for babies and toddlers, and plenty of chairs to relax in.

This attraction centers on two bodies of water: The 2-acre swimming lake boasts a 90-foot waterslide, kiddie slides, a splash area and diving boards, while on the 1-acre paddleboat lake families can make use of rented boats such as kayaks and water bikes. The park also has mini golf, volleyball courts and even a gem mine to keep the kids busy and entertained out of the water.

Aqua Adventures at Land of Illusion Adventure Park: Middletown

The Land of Illusion Adventure Park, situated in between Dayton and Cincinnati, wows visitors from May through January with its beloved Halloween haunts and Christmas displays, but summertime is when its water park comes to life. Aqua Adventures is best known for its inflatable obstacle course right on the water, which tests the skills of brave young adventurers with monkey bars, a balance beam, rope climbs and more – and young kids get a zone all to themselves. Patrons can also practice paddleboarding in Paddle Bay, secure a beverage at Sandy Cove and Aqua Lounge, or zip down the inflatable waterslide.

Uhrichsville Water Park spans 4.5 acres in northeast Ohio, about 60 miles south of Akron, with plenty of activities for small kids. Two waterslides drop directly into the pool, which can provide everyone in your crew with hours of fun. Families who want a day in the shade can rent their own cabana on-site.

Watering Hole Safari & Water Park: Port Clinton

This Port Clinton water park formerly known as Monsoon Lagoon sits about 15 miles from Cedar Point, so you can always visit both parks in the area for maximum summer thrills. Attractions found at the Watering Hole Safari & Water Park include a giant treehouse with four waterslides, a lazy river, several heated pools and three-story slide tower. Cincinnati's Coney Island – not to be confused with the New York City entertainment area of the same name – has evolved from an apple orchard on the Ohio River into a family-friendly water park since its 1886 founding. The park's Sunlite Water Adventure offers what's billed as the nation's largest recirculating pool; other Coney Island aquatic features include 130-foot waterslides, a floating obstacle course, a dive pool and more than 70 interactive play stations. The park's popular Cyclone ride sends guests splashing down 70 feet before dropping them into the main pool. Also included in admission are paddleboat rentals, mini golf and inflatable ax throwing.

Several hotels make it easy to stay nearby Coney Island, including Hotel Covington and the Aloft Newport on the Levee, located over the border in Kentucky, less than 10 miles from the park.

Set between Columbus and Cincinnati in Bellville, the Splash Harbor hotel promises family fun for guests who love playing and splashing in the water. Every single time we visit the Safari Park, we stop by the Watering Hole restaurant to get lunch and watch the heards of large African animals walking around! It's absolutely magical!! Very relaxing environment. Always great service and kind servers! Food prices aren't cheap or outrageous. Our kids love coming here to eat. It just makes your day at the Safari Park that much more special. Only thing is sometimes they have an event hosted here which closes the restaurant to Zoo visitors. You can call ahead to make sure they're open the day you're going. Thank you Watering Hole for being such a great family spot to enjoy!

Ok food, ok service gorgeous views. Had nachos and the pulled pork sandwich. Don't think you are coming here for the food. It's just mediocre. But the views are really lovely.

Watering Hole is great for primarily location. Food quality and service was what you would expect from a Safari Park. It's got some better options for food and drink than what you get at most of the Kiosk's. The staff is friendly enough and it has a great area to go and watch the African Safari area from a different perspective that most of the park has, so that is really cool.

The address might be confusing, but The Watering Hole is actually located inside Safari Park, overlooking the African wildlife plains. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, in an open air building with the look of a palapa. There's a small bar area, only four seats, and jungle park sounds abound. The menu is perfect for adults or children, with shareable, salads,, pasta and sandwiches, all reasonably priced. The kids menu includes Mac n cheese and chicken strips. There's a small dessert list, as well. Drink options include the usual, water, iced tea, coffee, fountain products, as well as beer, wine and specialty cocktails. Reservations are more than a good idea, as the park can get pretty busy. As one would expect, the staff is super friendly and accommodating. I think we might make this into a date stop during future visits.

The Watering Hole is located in the SD Safari Park towards the south end of the park near the tram rides. Reservations are highly recommended. Note, the restaurant was not taking any walk in's on a Saturday. Upon arrival, make sure you ask for a table close to the grass area. They gave us a table behind the bar and I couldn't see anything so I complained to the hostess and she moved us to a better table. The scenic backdrop of the safari just makes this restaurant an experience you don't want to miss. We took some amazing family photos. Definitely Instagram worthy. The menu is basic and the sandwiches & salads are ok. I recommend the pretzel appetizer. We nick named it the dinosaur pretzel. It was ginormous. Kids meals come in a souvenir bag with animal crackers and apple sauce. The margarita flight was delightful. We ended our meal with their brownie sundae. Highly recommended. The service was excellent and our party of 7 was satisfied.

This restaurant was not what I expected. It was an open sided hit design to match the African Safari region of the part it is located in. We ate fresh food, drank tasty libations, received exceptional service from the three ladies working hostess, service, and bar and the gentlemen who delivered our food from the kitchen were as polite and as accommodating as possible. We were sat at one of the best seats in the house also not rushed out of it. And the desserts were perfect as well. It gave my husband and I a date vibe within our day at the Safari. (We lucked out with the weather and the non-busy day of the establishment. Reservations are the best way to experience this location.). They even hold wedding here!!!

Let's face it: You're not going to the Wild Animal Park (technically the Safari Park now, but old habits...) for the food. You're going to see animals. And because of that, this is an amazing place. The food is all right, a little better than I expected but nothing to write home about. It's very nice, however, to take a break from the heat (there are misters too which are really nice since lunchtime can be so hot), get something to eat, and still have an amazing view so you're not missing out on what you're here to do and see. The service is also pleasant and fast, and I highly recommend a reservation. We reserved the day before, and when we got there I was really glad I did because the wait was an estimated 30 minutes.

Food is actually not bad. Service on the other hand- zero stars. 30 minute estimate to sit down which turned into 45. 15 minutes to even be spoken to before ordering, 30 minutes for food to arrive with a half empty restraint. All in all wasted 30% of my day for an average chicken club Sammy. Absolutely horrible.

If you're going to the San Diego zoo wildlife park, I'd definitely recommend the Watering Hole, 1000% make a reservation in advance to have either lunch or dinner here! (You can make it on OpenTable ;)! ) The view is an 11/10. You are practically in the safari park, with great views of the mountains and animals. We had 3 rhinos lounging on the hill as our view. From a food and beverage standpoint, this is nothing to write home about. But I will say for an amusement park I thought this food was good and got the job done. For 2 people the lunch was around 100 bucks with tip. Note we got 2 cocktails and an appetizer. What we ate: - the hummus plate. Surprisingly was refreshing and what we needed after a hot day. But they put strawberries on there. Very bizarre... - pulled pork sandwiches - the buns seemed like they were straight out of the bag, not toasted or anything. The pork was good but they could have put way more on the sandwhich. The homemade potato chips were FIRE!! Get them! - watermelon margarita - I expected authentic but it was more like a premade sugary watermelon mix. Very sweet. But it was yummy. Overall the staff was great and the view was incredible! So make that reservation days prior and enjoy!! :)

Let's be honest for a minute -- you don't come to the zoo for stellar, mind-blowing food. That being said, the selections at the Watering Hole are pretty dang delicious for an amusement park meal. This spot is a little pricey, but has solid quality and tasty food. And, more than anything, it's worth it for the incredible views. Eating here feels special, because you can enjoy your meal while looking out over the safari park's open space where the animals roam. Grab a drink or a snack and watch the animals walk by. The food might not change your life, but it will be satisfying and the experience itself is enough to make it worth it. I'm always excited to come back and eat here because of that alone.

Acrobatic hippo prompts laughter, comparison to synchronized swimmers

A hippo at a game reserve in South Africa had been given the nickname Hipney Spears by a tourist because of its dance moves in a waterhole. Then, on a recent safari, it performed a number, as if on cue.

Hildo, the name the Umkumbe Bush Lodge on the Sand River knows the hippo by, suddenly turned upside down with all four feet out of the water, prompting loud laughter among the tourists on safari.

“He’s stuck,” one tourist could be heard saying in the video.

“That is so funny,” another said.

The Umkumbe Bush Lodge posted the video on its Instagram page .

"He kept us entertained and in awe as he kept rolling around on his back almost as if he is a part of a synchronized swimming team," the lodge wrote. "This old bull was all by himself peacefully resting and rolling around the watering hole."

Wrote one commenter on the post, "Hipney Spears has all the good dance moves! I’m jealous.”
