Welcome to Evanston Express Fastpitch Softball!
The Express offers girls from age 8-16 an opportunity to build on the skills they attained playing EBSA house league by playing competitive fastpitch softball in a travel team program. We offer pitching, hitting, and skill-building instruction for players who dig fastpitch softball and want to have fun playing to the best of their abilities.
Our Mission
Evanston Express is Evanston’s Travel Softball Club for girls age 8 through 16. We are an EBSA (Evanston Baseball Softball Association) organization dedicated to promoting the sport of fast pitch softball and providing opportunities for motivated players to build on the skills they have attained in house league.
Travel softball provides girls who love the sport the chance to represent their hometown while competing against similarly skilled players in surrounding communities during the late spring and summer months. We ask that players commit to the program from Memorial Day through the end of July. We pride ourselves in the involvement of past and current ETHS softball players as a strong part of our coaching program. We want every girl in Evanston to be in on the action, learning the skills, values, and just plain fun of fastpitch softball.

WINNERS of the OAK PARK FALCON FEST TOURNEY!
Our 14u Express team won the the Oak Park tournament, winning the Championship game with a score of 17-16. The team started off the game behind by 13 points, but came ROARing back in the 4th inning with 7 runs! Over the next few innings they held the opponent to only 3 more runs. While Express just kept chipping away at their lead with big swings at the plate. In the 7th inning, now only down by 3, Express hit hard loading up base runners. The dugout screamed and cheered as their teammates drove in two more runs. The tying run was sent home by the strong bat of Alba V! With 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the opponent walked the next batter to load the bases. This set up Brigid R. (who earlier hit a home run) to step up to bat. She kept her hot bat going, with a perfectly placed hit, that drove in the winning run! Great game 14u Express!

Midwest Express Fastpitch was founded on the idea of helping players and families connect and understand the transition from High School softball to the collegiate level as well as learning the fundamentals starting at a young age. A base that has been built from decades of board experience and experienced coaching staffs, Midwest Express Fastpitch is committed to being informative when helping families and student athletes understand the requirements academically and athletically to achieve certain goals. Make no mistake that from a young age we will always enforce the importance of achieving the highest standards in academics as this will open many doors for student athletes. We firmly believe that playing throughout all four seasons is the only way to improve in any sport. We as an organization are committed to setting a schedule that suits the specific teams at their respective levels as the teams are formed. Our highest level teams will play an "A" level schedule and focus on college preparation. In addition to the staff we currently have, we are always looking to add experienced coaching help for any level. As we move forward we intend to grow the program by adding more teams at the younger levels in the years to come.

Italy’s orient express la dolce vita train debuts in 2024.

Orient Express La Dolce Vita.
The launch of new luxury trains shows no sign of slowing down, thanks to an obsession with slow travel, an appetite for nostalgia, and a taste for lavish interiors that harken back to the golden days of rail travel. Nothing epitomizes that better than the unveiling of the Orient Express La Dolce Vita later this year, a new “vintage-style” train that will travel around Italy on one—and two-night journeys.
The train is a partnership between the French hotel group Accor and the Italian luxury hospitality group Arsenale S.P.A., with a railway partnership with Trenitalia—Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato—and the Fondazione FS Italiane. Note that this Orient Express is a different company than the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, which is owned by Belmond, part of LVMH, and runs from London to Venice.
The design inspiration is La Dolce Vita, “The Sweet Life,” the name of the Italian décor, art, and architecture of the 1960s, made famous by Federico Fellini’s film of the same name. Dimorestudio, an architecture and design studio founded by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, was inspired by 20th-century Italian design masters such as Giò Ponti, Nanda Vigo, Gae Aulenti, and Osvaldo Borsani.
Suite onboard the Orient Express La Dolce Vita.
The 11-carriage train will carry just 62 guests. There are 12 deluxe wood-lined cabins, 18 master suites, and one "La Dolce Vita" suite. They will all feature double beds, a sofa, armchairs, and a private bathroom. All cabins will have room service available. The restaurant car will offer lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea. The Bar Car will feature live music, an aperitivo and antipasti buffet, after-dinner cocktails, and Italian wines.

The itineraries have been designed to create exclusive travel experiences ranging north and south, giving glimpses of the Alps and the southern coastline. Most departures will leave from Rome, and journeys can include cities such as Milan, Florence, and Venice, as well as the island of Sicily, via the only passenger rail ferry in the world.
Restaurant on board the Orient Express La Dolce Vita.
Rome is the departure point for many of these rail trips. A new Orient Express La Dolce Vita Lounge will open at Rome Ostiense station to welcome passengers and provide refreshments. Fully staffed, it’s where passengers check in, check bags, and indicate travel preferences. The Lounge is where you will pick up boarding passes, cabin numbers, and baggage tags. After a day sightseeing in Rome, it’s good to know that there will be changing rooms with showers available before the journey begins.
Two-night journeys include Rome, Venice, and Portofino; Rome, Venice, and Siena; The Italian Transsiberian, Matera, and Palena; Palermo, Agrigento & Taormina: Sicly Through its Myths; and Rome & Nizza Monferrato: En Route to Truffles and Wine. Single-night journeys include Rome & Montalcino: En Route to Fine Wines and Rome, Maratea & Palermo: The Wonders of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The itineraries have been created in tandem with Orient Express’ first hotels, which will also debut in 2024: the Orient Express La Minerva in Rome and the Orient Express Palazzo Donà Giovannelli in Venice.
In 2025, La Dolce Vita is expected to add international routes to Paris, Istanbul, and Split on Croatia’s Adriatic Coast.
Reservations are currently open for booking. Fares start at $2,700 per person per night in a deluxe cabin and $4,000 per person per night in a suite. They include accommodation, the table d’hôte, selected wine and spirits, mineral water, soft drinks, tea and coffee, onboard entertainment, excursions, and all applicable taxes. Some premium wines and spirits and some à la carte dishes are subject to an extra charge. Visit Orient Express La Dolce Vita for more information.

2024 WPIAL Class 5A softball preseason breakdown
By: Bill Hartlep Monday, March 11, 2024 | 11:00 AM
Shaler pitcher Bria Bosiljevac celebrates a strikeout with teammates during the PIAA Class 5A championship game against Northern York on June 17, 2023, at Penn State.
Trinity captured its first WPIAL softball title last season by outslugging top-seeded Armstrong , 11-7. Shaler made a run through the PIAA tournament to finish as the state runner-up.
All three teams again have some firepower in the lineup and should challenge for the district championship and possibly beyond.
Here is a look at the 2024 preseason top 5 teams, some players to watch and other diamond notes in WPIAL Class 5A softball.
Preseason Top 5
1. Shaler (22-2 last season)
The Titans were PIAA runners-up last season after falling to Northern York, 3-2 in nine innings, in the state title game. Shaler won Section 1 at 10-0 and reached the WPIAL semifinals before losing to Trinity , 5-4. The Titans then rattled off three wins in the state tournament. All-state sophomore pitcher Bria Bosiljevac, who had 52 strikeouts in four PIAA tournament starts, returns, along with all-section DP Emily Spears. They graduated all-state first baseman Eloise Facher and all-state utility player Bethany Rodman. Shaler hit nine home runs in four state-tournament games.
2. Armstrong (21-3)
Armstrong, the 2022 WPIAL champion and last season’s runner-up, will try to get back on the championship track behind senior Emma Paul, an all-state shortstop and Fairmont State recruit who led the Armstrong girls basketball team to a WPIAL runner-up finish with 36 points in the title game last week. She hit .478 with 32 RBIs last spring. The River Hawks played in the state championship game in 2021 and ’22 and reached the PIAA semifinals last season where they fell to Shaler. They graduated all-state outfielders Jenna Clontz and Emma Smerick but return senior infielder Jess Pugh, who hit five homers last season and earned second-team all-section recognition.
3. West Allegheny (19-2)
WPIAL power West Allegheny was 10-0 in Section 3 last season and entered the postseason after compiling an 18-1 regular season record. The Indians reached the WPIAL quarterfinals where they fell to South Fayette . Senior pitcher Elly Vicari-Baker and junior second baseman Aubrey Police, a Villanova commit, return after earning first-team all-section honors. Police also was picked to the all-state team. The team also will rely on junior infielder Ava Henke, an Ohio commit, and junior catcher Addy Vicari-Baker, who hit .576 last season.
4. Trinity (20-3)
Trinity captured the WPIAL title last season behind a lineup that averaged better than 7 runs per game. The Hillers won Section 4 at 10-0 and reached the PIAA quarterfinals. They will miss graduated all-state pitcher Taylor Dunn and all-state outfielder Amber Morgan, but return junior infielder Hanna Suhoski, who was an all-state selection at shortstop after she hit .520 with five homers and 24 RBIs in the regular season. Senior designated player Finley Hohn, a La Roche commit, also returns.
5. Franklin Regional (12-7)
Section 2 runner-up Franklin Regional returns the talented junior tandem of Toryn Fulton and Ciara Camacho. Fulton, a second baseman and South Florida recruit, hit .552 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs last season. Camacho, a catcher, is a Kent State commit. Both were first-team all-section selections for Section 2 coach of the year Jim Armstrong. Sophomore Adrianna Martz also returns, but the Panthers graduated six senior starters.

These Are the Top Travel Trends of 2024, According to American Express Travel
What are people really traveling for in 2024?
Grant Faint/Getty Images
Demand for premium travel continues at a torrid pace in 2024. Not only is that being reflected in the first few months of the year, but also in the newly released trend report by American Express (Amex) Travel . The study explored travel behaviors and trip planning from participants living in seven countries: Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The majority of respondents are planning major milestone-like trips, even if there isn’t necessarily an occasion to celebrate. And 84 percent of people surveyed plan to spend more or the same amount of money on travel in 2024 compared to last year. That includes destinations like Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands . (Travel agents and advisors are making a resurgence as well, with over 50 percent of people looking to leverage a travel agent or trusted advisor to book, like T+L’s A-List .)
“The report shows that demand for travel is continuing, and that people are building itineraries to create memories—being intentional about the places they are going, and the things they are doing when they get there,” Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, told Travel + Leisure .
Meanwhile, if 2023 was the year of “gig-tripping” (and the Taylor Swift effect), then 2024 is the year of long-distance travel for sporting events. Amex’s survey showed that 67 percent of millennial and Gen Z respondents are interested in traveling for sports in 2024. Paris, Miami, and New York City are the top three cities for sports travel, according to Amex. (Paris is hosting the Olympic Games this year, Miami is hosting Formula 1, and New York City has the U.S. Open Tennis.)
In addition, solo travel will be a prominent theme in 2024, with 76 percent of millennials and Gen Z (compared to 69 percent of all respondents) saying they plan to take a solo trip this year, with a majority centered around self-love and treating themselves. “It is really interesting to see how many people are embracing solo travel,” said Hendley. “We’re seeing changes with younger travelers in particular."
Finally, Amex says that 2024 will be a notable year for spontaneous trips or what they’re calling “on-a-whim travel.” Nearly 80 percent of travelers say they plan to take a spur-of-the-moment trip, while 44 percent of respondents even expressed a preference for a spontaneous trip instead of having all the details planned. In fact, there are entire companies (like Pack Up & Go and Competitours ) that offer complete itineraries where none of the details are provided in advance.
For something a bit less extreme, Henley recommended leaving unplanned time on existing trips to experience local culture and activities. “I just took an incredible trip to Thailand and relied on local experts and tour guides to show me the ‘real’ sites. I would have missed out on these local experiences – and so much incredible food – if I hadn’t left room in my itinerary to be impulsive and truly explore,” she said.

How to get from Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO) to central Moscow
Sheremetyevo airport
1. Aeroexpress
The fastest way to get from this airport to the center of Moscow is the Aeroexpress train, which has a station right in the airport building. With no traffic on the way, you’ll arrive at the Savelovskaya train station in 45 min and the Belorusskaya train station in 53 minutes, from both you can get on the metro, from which it’s convenient to go anywhere in the city.
The first train leaves Sheremetyevo at 4:45 a.m., and the last departs 12:42 a.m. Tickets on the Aeroexpress go for 500 rubles ($8) at the ticket office and 450 rubles ($7.2) online. You can buy tickets in advance via the website aeroexpress.ru , or download the app .
Bus is a cheaper way to reach Moscow, but you might end up in a traffic jam. Another disadvantage is that the bus only goes to a metro station at the end of the line, near the city limits, so you’ll need another 30 minutes to reach the city center.
To Khovrino metro station (Green line):
- 1195 Aeroexpress buss (departure each 15 min., tickets $150 and available to buy online here )
To Rechnoy Vokzal metro station (Green line):
- Bus No. 851 runs from 5:37 a.m. to 12:49 a.m. (and to 12:45 a.m. on weekends); 55 rubles ($0.8). Travel time about 50 minutes.
- The so-called marshrutka mini-bus No. 949 runs from 6:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.; 80 rubles ($1.3). Travel time about 30 minutes.
To Planernaya metro station (Purple line):
- Bus No. 817 runs from 5:22 a.m. to 12:08 a.m.; 55 rubles ($0.8). Travel time around 40 minutes.
- Mini bus No. 948 runs from 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 p.m.; 80 rubles ($1.3). Travel time around 30 minutes.
To Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station (Red line)
- Night bus H1 runs from 0:15, every half an hour, 55 rubles ($0.8).
If you arrive at night and don’t want to wait for a night bus, then take a taxi. But don’t take one that’s already at the airport because they charge 5,000 rubles ($80) and more; in fact, the ride should cost no more than 2,000 rubles ($30).
There are several services and apps to help you book a taxi in advance and the price is fixed no matter how long you spend in traffic jams:
- Uber is available in Moscow
- Yandex Taxi (the app works in many languages)
- Gett Taxi (works in Russian, English and Hebrew)
- City Mobil (available in English).
The last two are available for booking in advance, but there are usually many cars in the vicinity of the airport that’ll pick you up in 5-10 minutes. When you arrive at the airport you can get online with free WiFi in the terminal, and book a car. They’ll probably ask you to call after passing through border control because waiting in front of the airport is free for only the first 15 minutes, and then it’s quite expensive.
4. Car sharing
Several car-sharing companies are available at Sheremetyevo. You need an ID, driver’s license, credit card and a smartphone. You’ll need to sign a contract with a company in order to access its vehicle (you can also do this online). The leading companies are: Delimobil ( click here to find more about access at the airport); Yandex Drive (available in English on Google Play ); and BelkaCar ( works only in Russian ). You should download an app in advance to find the nearest car.
5. Rent a car
All major car rental companies can be found at Sheremetyevo: Sixt , Europcar , Avis , and Rentalcars . You can rent a car online or by visiting the rental office. Booking in advance doesn’t influence the price much but it does provide greater choice of car models.
6. Rent a helicopter
If you’re rich enough or adhere to the notion that ‘You only live once,’ then Sheremetyevo offers a great option to avoid traffic and roads entirely. Go to the airport’s website for more information about helicopter rental - www.svo.aero.

- The Venice Simpon-Orient-Express is a luxury overnight train in Europe.
- The train's grand suite, starting at $26,000 a night, is the top tier of accommodation.
- Each grand suite has a private bathroom with a rainfall showerhead and extravagant decor.
Hundred-year-old carriages from the Orient Express fleet make up the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express , Belmond's revamp of the iconic luxury sleeper train. With 60 routes in 17 cities, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is perhaps the most luxurious train in Europe . Prices start at $9,000 a night.
The train's top-tier accommodation is a grand suite. With a starting rate of $26,000 a night, these rooms are filled with luxury details and amenities unique to any other cabin on board, from a private shower to around-the-clock butler service.
Business Insider recently took a tour of the rooms as a cabin steward explained the details of each suite.
Look inside the train's most extravagant accommodations to peek at the luxury journey of a lifetime.
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is the epitome of luxury train travel in Europe.
Guests are welcomed on red carpets for an overnight journey with lavishly decorated vintage carriages, fine dining restaurants, and jaw-dropping views of passing scenery.
The train has six grand suite accommodations — each with a unique design.
Grand suites are the third tier of accommodation — one step above a suite and two steps above a historic cabin .
Each grand suite is inspired by a city on the train's routes, including Venice, Vienna, Istanbul, Budapest, and Prague.
They all include a couch, a double bed that can be converted into two twins, a dining area, and a full en-suite bathroom.
All six have a full bathroom with a rainfall showerhead.
Each bathroom has a glass-blown sink, heated marble flooring, and a rainfall showerhead.
Grand-suite guests also get complimentary bathrobes and slippers.
Next to each bathroom is a closet with additional storage space so guests can fully unpack and feel at home.
Each has a dining area, too.
Grand-suite guests are greeted with caviar upon arrival and can dine in their rooms rather than in the restaurant cars if they prefer.
They also get 24-hour butler service and bottomless champagne for the entire journey, the cabin steward told BI.
The Venice grand suite fuses Italian Baroque and Renaissance design.
Venetian furniture, vintage glass light fixtures, and a combination of silk and woven fabrics fill this suite with a historic Italian ambiance. Navy-blue velvets are reminiscent of the train's exterior.
The headboard combining arches and sharp edges may remind one of the Renaissance castles in Italy .
Emerald and golden details mark the Vienna suite.
The suite has a classic feel with dark wood contrasting gold trimmings.
According to a Belmond fact sheet obtained by BI, the headboard backing is made of silk to evoke a sense of elegance. Its curved shape and the tassel detailing in the bed's skirt may remind travelers of the historic city's regal palaces .
The Istanbul suite feels like a Turkish palace.
Shiny, hand-carved wood from the furniture to the walls is a work of art. For those who have been to the Turkish city of Istanbul , the embossed leather and fabric embroiderings may bring back memories of the city's opulent offerings at the famous and historic Grand Bazaar market .
Gothic and Ottoman architectural styles inspired the Budapest suite.
The Budapest suite is decorated with ornate marquetry and furniture with embroidered silk patterns. The tall, curved headboard may remind travelers of Gothic cathedrals and mosques that date back to the Ottoman Empire .
The Paris suite is meant to evoke romantic vibes.
Inspired by the city's architecture, the Paris suite nods to art deco elements, classical facades, and the city's high-fashion reputation with a geometric headboard and detailed wooden marquetry.
And finally, the Prague suite nods to the city's theatrical culture.
Maroon and gold are the colors of the Prague suite to bring travelers a sense of the city's theater scene . Mosaic patterns inspired by cubism fill the walls, and cushions embroidered by hand add luxury details to the furniture.
