Damian Marley Bringing Jamrock All-dayer to South Facing

The multi-Grammy-winning talent Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley has been announced as the latest artist to perform at London’s critically acclaimed open-air concert series South Facing Festival. ‘Jamrock’ promises an all-day event of bass and positive vibrations on 10 August 2024 in London’s Crystal Palace Bowl.

Damian Marley’s musical style fuses reggae with dancehall, hip-hop, R&B, and rock elements, crafting a fresh and modern sound that is uniquely his own. He is a chart-topping undeniable talent who continues to captivate international audiences while cementing his place as a prominent figure in the industry.

The highly acclaimed Jamaican artist/producer is the youngest son of the revered legend Bob Marley, who performed his largest and last ever concert in London at the venue on 7 June 1980, an event which is commemorated on the site with a blue plaque with Ethiopian/pan-African/Rastafari tri-colours.

Alongside Damian Marley, Jamrock features an all-star line-up that includes the legendary Midlands roots-reggae band Steel Pulse, conscious revolutionary lyricist Kabaka Pyramid, Jamaican singer and lover’s rock favourite Romain Virgo, and one of the world’s greatest and best-known dub reggae sound systems, Channel One.

Damian Marley joins the previously announced Jess Glynne, performing on 9 August, she made history by becoming the first British female solo artist to score seven number ones on the UK Singles Chart.

Crystal Palace Bowl has hosted massive names, including Elton John, Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys, The Pixies and Bob Marley. The affectionately nicknamed “rusty laptop” stage now boasts a blue plaque to commemorate the location of Marley’s last ever London show.

Damian and Stephen Marley Announce Co-Headlining Traffic Jam Tour 2024

In February and March 2024, the Grammy award-winning brothers Damian “Jr Gong” Marley and Stephen “Ragga” Marley will launch their exclusive Traffic Jam Tour across North America. This marks the inaugural occasion in history when the brothers have jointly presented a curated set, offering a unique showcase to their fans. The 18-date tour begins February 16 and features 15 dates produced by Live Nation, with stops including Las Vegas, NV; Seattle, WA; Vancouver, BC; Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Toronto, ON; and more before concluding at Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, IL, on March 30. Additionally, three festival dates complete the outing including CaliVibes Fest, Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival, and Reggae Rise Up Florida.

The seamless performance will feature a special curated set list of both brothers’ catalogs and a medley of their father Bob Marley’s classics.  Damian and Stephen Marley have written and performed a multitude of singles together over the last two decades  – including the most recent collaboration, “Cast The First Stone” from Stephen Marley’s new LP Old Soul . The brothers wrote/produced/performed on the anthemic Grammy-winning reggae classic “Welcome To Jamrock,” in addition to timeless compositions like “Medication,” “Grown & Sexy,” “All Night,” “It Was Written,” and, of course, “Traffic Jam.”

Multi-Grammy winning talent, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley is a highly acclaimed Jamaican singer, songwriter and producer.  He is the youngest son of the revered legend, Bob Marley. His musical style fuses reggae with elements of dancehall, hip-hop, R&B, and rock, crafting a fresh and modern sound that is uniquely his own. Damian was the first ever Reggae artist to win a GRAMMY AWARD® outside of the Reggae category. The acclaimed 2005 breakthrough disc, Welcome To Jamrock , won a GRAMMY AWARD® for Best Reggae Album, with the New York Times naming the track “the best reggae song of the decade.” In 2010, Marley teamed up with Nas and brother Stephen Marley for his Distant Relatives project, and went on to partner with Skrillex for their groundbreaking track “Make It Bun Dem,” which Rolling Stone called “a monster mash-up of dubstep and dancehall.” Which went platinum with over 1 Million copies sold in the United States alone. Following the track’s success, the reggae superstar released his fourth studio album, Stony Hill , resulting in his third GRAMMY AWARD® for Best Reggae Album. In September of 2022, Marley released his fifth studio album, The Kalling, which went on to win Best Reggae Album at the 65th Annual GRAMMY AWARDS®. ABOUT STEPHEN MARLEY

Stephen “Ragga” Marley is a world-renowned singer, songwriter, and producer whose work has earned no fewer than eight Grammy Awards. Born into a musical family, Stephen is the child of reggae legends Bob Marley and Rita Marley. He began singing professionally at 6, touring the world with his elder siblings Ziggy, Sharon, and Cedella in The Melody Makers. In 2008, he released his first solo album, Mind Control, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. His subsequent solo albums include Mind Control Acoustic, Revelation Part I: The

Root of Life, and Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life. Stephen’s first new full-length album in more than seven years, Old Soul, was released on September 15 via Tuff Gong Collective/UMe/Ghetto Youths International. The new album is a departure from his previous Reggae repertoire, showcasing more of his bluesy, acoustic soul side, as evidenced by the first single, “Old Soul.” Stephen is also an acclaimed producer, working closely with his brother Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley on the massive crossover hit Welcome To Jamrock. In addition, Stephen continues to champion charitable endeavors centered in Jamaica as a co-founder of the Ghetto Youths Foundation, along with his brothers Damian and Julian Marley.  In 2017, Stephen established Kaya Fest, the annual music festival, which features special guests and rare family performances, all with the larger purpose of raising awareness around the benefits of cannabis, guided by the mantra “Education Before Recreation.”

Stephen Marley (born April 20, 1972) is a Jamaican-American reggae singer, musician, producer, and member of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, hailing from Wilmington, Delaware, U.S., and Kingston, Jamaica.

“Anything that sounds good is good,” says Stephen Marley, paraphrasing Duke Ellington. Don’t be surprised to hear the King of Reggae’s son referencing Harlem’s master of the jazz orchestra. Never one to limit his musical horizons, Stephen has always listened without prejudice, letting his inspiration set him free as a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer—whether collaborating with his illustrious musical family, or with Lauryn Hill, Nas, or Erykah Badu.

Following the demise of the family band Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, it was pretty clear that Stephen Marley was destined to break out and follow the music that he loves and is impassioned about. His solo discography was equally critically considered, his 2011 LP 'Revelation Pt. 1 – The Root of Life' picking up the Grammy Award for best reggae album.

Stephen has an instant fanbase from his days as part of the band, those who discovered him through solo releases and those who know he is the offspring of the late, great Bob Marley. There is no denying Stephen has inherited his father's vocal talent and likeable personality as he chats to his crowds on a refreshingly personal level between tracks. He discusses his life in depth, the influence of his father and talks passionately about the importance of music in the larger battle for overall peace and equality. He honours his father numerous times as his band cover the likes of 'Buffalo Soldier' and 'You Could Be Loved' with unmatched integrity. It is a great show conducted by a truly great musician and live band.

I saw him twice. Once in Baltimore with Slightly Stoopid?(sp) didn't stay for them, weren't there to see them. Stephen Marley didn't disappoint! Pier 6 in Baltimore, the atmosphere and someone I loved. Fantastic.. Covered a few of his father's songs which was an awesome surprise, but even better he introduced his son Jo Mersa Marley during that show and they rocked the house. Second was in Philadelphia at The Mann, during last year's Reggae in the park.. Along with a couple of his brother's and his son, nephew Skip Mersa. It's never a bad show when you're going to see Stephen Marley. You may just get an Irie surprise! You never know who you may see on stage or behind the scenes!

This was a fantastic show! Stephen Marley has such a wonderful stage presence. My friends and I had a blast! The Sunshine Theatre is a great venue.

My friends and were celebrating my Birthday and I had a wonderful time. I loved stephen's son waving the flag during the show, he was such a cutie and did such a great job. I also love how the backup singers got to sing a song.

He is so amazing in concert. He really interacts with the crowd. And he will play bongo drums sometimes too. I really love when he does one of his father's songs. And of course when he does a show with his brothers it is absolutely amazing. Also, I love that he always meets his fans and interacts with them after the show.

Well go start off this is my second time seeing damian and Stephen marley and boy do they just keep on getting better and better. I was lucky enough to be right at front jamming to all the songs with them. Best night of my life, please come to San Diego more often

Stephen puts on such an amazing show at The Belly Up, blending his own fantastic original music with his father's timeless hits. The vibe at The Belly Up is electric...if you love reggae music this is a show you dont want to miss.

Stephen Ragga Marley is incredible just like his father. His acoustic show was amazing despite the cold and the rain ,everyone was vibing. His band members are so talented . Texas loves Stephen Ragga Marley ..BIG LOVE

Amazing show. The DJ was great, kept the crowd moving.Jo Mersa was phenomenal and energetic. When Stephen came out I got chills. Good vibes and great music. Absolutely worth it. Will definitely go to see him again.

Damian, Stephen Marley Reveal Joint Tour 

Grammy award-winning brothers Damian “Jr Gong” and Stephen “Ragga” Marley have announced their co-headlining “Traffic Jam” tour, scheduled for February and March 2024. The tour will see the Marley brothers join forces to deliver 18 dates across North America. 

Traffic Jam is scheduled to begin on February 16 in Long Beach, CA, at Cali Vibes Fest where it will make stops at other locations such as Las Vegas, NV, and the House of Blues Las Vegas, Seattle, WA, at Paramount Theatre, Philadelphia, PA, at The Fillmore Philadelphia, and Boston, MA, at the Citizens House of Blues, before wrapping up on March 30 in Chicago, IL, at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom. 

The Marley brothers, known for their prolific collaboration spanning two decades, have produced numerous singles together, including the recent gem “Cast The First Stone” from Stephen Marley’s latest LP, “Old Soul.” Traffic Jam will include a curated setlist that blends the brothers’ catalog along with their iconic father, Bob Marley’s classics.

Damian and his brilliant band played the last leg of their UK Tour with gig number eleven in Eastleigh at The Concorde on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in support of his debut album Mission Creep .

We can’t be sure of the set list, but if it’s anything like the other shows on this UK Tour then Damian opened the show with his first single Down on the Bowery , followed by Zaragoza, Hole in My Roof, My Little One, Soho Tango and nine more songs, not including encore songs. He usually plays his new songs Pentonville Prison and Traffic Jam. For encore he usually plays a cover of After Midnight and his other new song She Makin’ Me Change .

The Stables venue was founded by jazz royalty Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, which Damian thought was a brilliant legacy to have for the show. Fans were keen to share that they spotted Damian’s partner Alison Mosshart in the audience, front row.

The 52-year-old Emmy and Golden Globe-winning star released his debut album ‘Mission Creep’ in June and is now about to embark on a UK tour, which includes a date at Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club on 1 October.

It is always a risky career move when someone at the top of their respective profession switches lanes to uncharted territory. This risk isn’t lost on Lewis as he is fully aware of the pitfalls and public perception when an actor ventures into music.

How do you feel ahead of your first ever tour? I can’t wait to get started, I’m really excited. I’ve played at a few festivals and done a lot of London gigs in the last year, but I’m so excited to play at these venues with a wonderful heritage and I’m really looking forward to getting out there to play my new album, Mission Creep .
