CC: Carlsen Center The Carlsen Center is the home of JCCC’s Performing Arts Series. On the first floor of the Carlsen Center are Yardley Hall, Polsky Theatre, Bodker Black Box Theatre for academic performances, a recital hall, a box office, the college’s switchboard, and the offices of the JCCC Police Department. Upper floors house classrooms, faculty and staff offices, offices for the English and Journalism and the Communications academic divisions, the JCCC Foundation and the Center for Sustainability.

CLB: Classroom Laboratory Building The CLB contains classrooms; anatomy, chemistry, earth science and environmental science laboratories; offices for the Science, Health Care and Math academic divisions; the Science Resource Center; the Math Resource Center; and the Healthcare Simulation Center. JCCC is one of 10 schools chosen by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to participate in a landmark national study of simulation use in pre-licensure nursing programs.

CSB: Campus Services Building CSB houses a number of services, including facilities management, an in-house printing plant, procurement services, and maintenance offices, that help the college function.

COM: Commons On the lower floors of the Commons building are dining facilities, including a food court, a cafeteria and a coffee bar called Java Jazz, as well as the offices of Student Life and Leadership Development. On the second floor are the Student Media Center and offices for the honors program and international education. On the third floor are the Center for Student Involvement, the Student Lounge, the Campus Center, and International and Immigrant Student Services.

GEB: General Education Building GEB houses classrooms as well as faculty and administrative offices, including those of the president, financial services, and marketing communication. On the second floor are offices for Human Resources and the Technology academic division as well as the Craig Community Auditorium.

GP: Galileo’s Pavilion This small “green” building (rated LEED platinum) was constructed by Studio 804, a design/build program at the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Urban Planning. It houses two classrooms and a lounge.

GYM: Gymnasium Inside the GYM are a basketball court; three full-size practice courts; golf, baseball and softball hitting areas; a six-lane indoor running track; a training room; a fitness center; and other exercise/dance rooms. On campus, the college athletic facilities include a 10-lane, all-weather outdoor track; softball and baseball diamonds; six lighted tennis courts; and a soccer field.

HCDC: Hiersteiner Child Development Center The HCDC is a licensed day care facility for the children of students, faculty and staff. It also houses a classroom used by the college’s early childhood education program. The outdoor play area is filled with nature-based outdoor learning centers, including water play features, embankment slides, musical instruments, a tire swing, a hollow log and a wooden playhouse. The HCDC has earned a 5-star rating from the Kansas Quality Rating System, a statewide system for center-based and home-based early childhood programs. The KQRS assessed the program on five components: learning environment, family partnerships, training and education, adult-to-child ratios and accreditation.

HCA: Hospitality and Culinary Academy (under construction) Currently under construction, the HCA houses the college’s nationally recognized hospitality management program and provides space for noncredit classes and community activities. The building will house seven kitchens – five culinary labs, an innovation kitchen and a demonstration kitchen in a culinary theater – as well as three classrooms. The HCA will open in fall 2013. JCCC’s hospitality management program is one of only 28 programs recognized by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEF) as an “exemplary program,” meaning that it meets the highest educational standards recognized by ACFEF by maintaining consistent compliance with all ACFEF requirements, coupled with excellence in management.

HSC: Horticultural Science Center The HSC houses the horticulture program, offices, three greenhouses, a plant propagation room and a head house.

ITC: Industrial Training Center The ITC serves as a national training center for employees of BNSF Railway. It also provides office space for BNSF, general classrooms for JCCC, and classrooms and labs for the National Academy of Railroad Sciences (NARS) and the electronics technology and architecture programs.

LIB: Billington Library The Billington Library is a full-service library, with thousands of books, periodicals, audiovisual titles and databases. Also in the library are the Writing Center, the Language Resource Center, the Educational Technology Center, the graphic design program and offices for Publications, Web Publishing, Video Production and Distance Learning.

NMOCA: Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art is the only contemporary art museum in Kansas. The museum houses galleries for permanent and temporary exhibitions, the M.R. and Evelyn Hudson Auditorium, the Tearney Art Education Center, a museum shop, and Café Tempo. JCCC collects contemporary art from around the world. The work of more than 1,000 regional, national and international artists is represented in JCCC’s collection, which features a diverse range of painting, photography, clay, sculpture, works on paper and new media. In addition to the museum, the collection is installed in “focus” areas in the corridors, dining halls and other highly visible and accessible locations across campus. In April 2006, Public Art Review magazine named JCCC as one of the top 10 university/college campuses for public art in America.

OCB: Office and Classroom Building OCB houses classrooms, computer labs, sound-proofed music rooms, the office of outcomes assessment, the Center for Innovation, the Academic Achievement Center and offices for the business and the arts, humanities and social sciences academic divisions. Until the HCA is completed in 2013, the kitchens for the hospitality management program are housed in OCB. PA: Police Academy The Police Academy trains full-time officers employed by more than 30 law enforcement agencies in northeastern Kansas and offers in-service training for law enforcement personnel in a four-state region. The building also houses the college’s administration of justice program.

PGGG: Parking Garage at Galileo’s Garden The Parking Garage at Galileo’s Garden is a four-story covered parking structure that is connected to CLB.

RC: Regnier Center In the Regnier Center are offices and classrooms for the Center for Business and Technology, the Capitol Federal Conference Center, the Center for Entrepreneurship, the Kansas Small Business Development Center, training rooms, classrooms and computer labs for credit and noncredit computer applications and information technology programs, a biotechnology laboratory suite and offices for the college’s Information Services branch. A glass atrium connects the Regnier Center to the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art.

SC: Student Center The SC houses all of JCCC’s Student Services, beginning with the Bookstore, the Cavalier C-store, and the Student Information Desk on the first floor. On the second floor are the Student Success Center, Counseling and Advising Services, the Career Development Center, Access Services for Students with Disabilities, Admissions, Registration, Student Records, and Financial Aid. SCI: Science Building The Science Building contains classrooms, lecture halls, offices and facilities for science and health care courses. In SCI are laboratories for life science, physical science, chemistry, biology and emergency medical science programs and a clinic for dental hygiene.

WH: Warehouse The warehouse is the delivery point for most goods and equipment purchased by the college. It also houses the college’s postal services.

WLB: Welding Laboratory Building The Welding Laboratory building has indoor and outdoor welding labs used primarily by railroad students.

Position Summary: Qualified to teach one or more of the following courses: SAG 165: Farm Producer Food Safety SAG 167: Local Food Production SAG 225: On-Farm Plant Breeding SAG 260: Sustainable Soil Management

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in agroecology, food systems or a sustainable agriculture related field. Or, Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in agroecology, food systems, or a sustainable agriculture related field. Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience to teach undergraduate sustainable agriculture courses Undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent and some sustainable farming or sustainable agriculture related experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Undergraduate teaching experience; particularly community college teaching (online and in person) Community college teaching and sustainable farming or sustainable agriculture related experience
