INTRODUCTION
As you may know, several notable stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen DeGeneres, and Taylor Swift live in the Beverly Hills area located in the neighborhood of Hollywood Hills.
Of course, celebrities don't all live right next to each other, neither they are available for all days of the year, so it's not easy to find their homes without a bit of guidance.
As a result, several tour companies have made a name for themselves by providing tours of celebrity houses, residences, and filming locations.
However, if you have a car (or bike) you can explore on your own!
Los Angeles is known as a sprawling city and most celebrities live far enough that you will need to use a car to really get to see many of them.
Also, in many cases, the places you visit will no longer be occupied by famous people who once lived there, but they are still historically significant.
Several notable properties are difficult to see from the street, but it's important that you do not stop and hold up traffic while driving through these neighborhoods.
And of course, it is important to be respectful of people's homes and privacy.
To visit where your favorite celebrity lives, our picks for top things to do in LA .
Can you drive by celebrity homes in Beverly Hills?

For the best views, trust a local tour guide.

SELF-GUIDED BEVERLY HILLS CELEBRITY HOMES TOUR
If you've decided to make your own trip through Beverly Hills, the following information should be pretty handy. This route will take over 2 hours.
We will start at Dean Martin's previous home since it is close to multiple local coffee shops like Alfred's or Kelly's Coffee & Fudge Factory. Grab a snack or beverage before your own guided tour to fuel you!
Use a smartphone to find your way to each address and discover the houses of celebrities both past and present.
Streets in the hills are notorious for twists and turns, so it is best to have a co-pilot helping with directing the driver.
Considering that many of these estates are located near busy streets, you may not be able to stop. Also, be kind.
People do live in most of these homes so be respectful.
1. Dean Martin (511 N. Maple Drive)
The beloved musician Dean Martin spent his last days in this wonderful house until his death in 1995.
Martin was well known as a singer and most famous for songs like That's Amore, Mambo Italiano, and Everybody Loves Somebody. but he also starred in several films such as Ada and Rio Bravo .
In addition to acting and performing, he also enjoyed success as host of The Dean Martin Show .

Head northwest on Maple toward Carmelita and then turn left at the 1st cross street onto Carmelita. Turn right onto Rexford.
2. Boris Karloff (629 Rexford Drive)
Here you will find the former residence of none other than Frankenstein's monster!
In the 1930s, Boris Karloff made a name for himself with title roles in early Universal horror movies like Frankenstein and The Mummy .
Although he was a prolific actor, he became known primarily for his work in genre films.
Next drive southeast on Rexford toward Carmelita then turn left at the 1st cross street onto Carmelita. Turn left onto Hillcrest and then another left at the 2nd cross street onto Sunset.
3. Madonna (9425 Sunset Blvd)

Head south toward Sunset and take a right onto Sunset. Turn right onto Foothill.
4. Frank Sinatra (915 Foothill Road)
Just down the road from his buddy Dean's house, you'll find the former property of yet another Rat Pack member.
Like his friend, Frank Sinatra was well known for both acting and singing.
Sinatra secured notable roles in movies like Ocean's 11 and The Manchurian Candidate . He lived at this house from 1982-1998.
Head east toward Foothill and then take a left. Foothill turns slightly right and becomes Doheny then turn left on Loma Vista.
5. Greystone Mansion (905 Loma Vista Drive)
While not a celebrity residence, many celebrities have set foot in this mansion.
Originally built in 1928 in Tudor revival style as a wedding gift from oil tycoon Edward Doheny to his son Ned Doheny and wife Lucy.
This masterpiece had 55 rooms, stables, kennels, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and exquisite English-style gardens.
A tragic fate bestowed on Ned only 4 months after moving into the massive home, however. He was found dead with his friend Hugh Plunkett. It was ruled a murder-suicide though it remains mysterious to this day.
Lucy continued living in this home with her children until 1955. It was then sold and the movie studios started renting it.
Today this mansion is a historic landmark, and museum and is still used for filming.
The building's resume is extensive. The Social Network, The Holiday, Young and the Restless, Spiderman, and Death Becomes Her , to name just a few.
It is Kermit's mansion in The Muppets and it is Chilton Academy in Gilmore Girls.

Next is a slight left onto Mulholland and then a sharp left onto Franklin Canyon. Now turn right onto Mulholland.
8. Jack Nicholson (12850 Mulholland Drive)
This is probably one of the most disturbing locations you'll visit on your trip through Beverly Hills.
Not only is Jack Nicholson's estate tied to criminal investigations, but the house that once existed here has since burned down, prompting some to describe the land as "cursed."
However you choose to see it, this is certainly one of the most notable sites in Hollywood history.
The next location is literally right next door.
9. Marlon Brando (12900 Mulholland Drive)
Not only did Brando live right next to Jack Nicholson, but he also lived with his neighbor for a short time.
The two were reportedly pretty good friends, likely as a result of living so close together.
Although he had a long and illustrious career, most people remember this actor for his titular role in the beloved film The Godfather .
From here, drive west on Mulholland Drive until you reach Benedict Canyon Drive and turn left.
10. Elton John (1400 Tower Grove Drive)
The history of this property is as old as Hollywood itself.
Originally owned by silent film actor John Gilbert, the house would eventually change hands several times.
Eventually, the home would be sold to Elton John in 1977, and he would live there until 1981.
Unfortunately, the original mansion that once existed here has since been demolished due to structural problems.
After taking a look at this estate, keep going south on Benedict Canyon Drive.
11. Bruce Springsteen (1244 Benedict Canyon Drive)
Although this estate looks deceptively small from the road, the reality is that it sprawls back quite a bit.
Springsteen has reportedly lived here for quite some time, and there are indications that the property is much larger than it might appear.

Mia Farrow would go on to make a name for herself with starring roles in films such as Rosemary's Baby and The Purple Rose of Cairo .
The next stop is just down the road.
14. Lucille Ball (1000 Roxbury Drive)
Most people know Lucille for her unforgettable role in the classic sitcom I Love Lucy .
While alive, she made her home in this beautiful modern colonial house.
If you can believe it, Jack Benny lived right next door at the time, and he would sometimes visit them on a whim.
According to some anecdotes, Lucy would personally hand out candy at the front door every Halloween.
You'll find the next destination just down the street.
15. Diane Keaton (1015 Roxbury Drive)
This Spanish-style home was originally owned by Betty Grable, but it would eventually be sold to Diane Keaton.
Being something of a preservationist, Keaton renovated the house to keep it in good condition.
Eventually, even Madonna would own this building at one time. The house has 7 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, and a full-size swimming pool in the backyard.
To reach our next stop, head back to Sunset Boulevard and drive south until you reach Copley Drive.
16. Gene Hackman (9901 Copley Drive)
You'll find this house located right next to the Los Angeles Country Club.
Gene Hackman is well known for roles in films such as The Poseidon Adventure and The French Connection , but most will probably remember him best as the original Lex Luthor in Superman .

17. Elvis Presley (144 Monovale Drive)
This was the last Beverly Hills property owned by The King.

This is the former residence of famous musician Rod Stewart, who has won multiple awards for his work.
Stewart recorded his Great American Songbook albums at this residence, and he once stated that the song Stardust was the perfect theme for this house.
Keep driving north on Carolwood Drive to find our next destination.
19. Michael Jackson (100 Carolwood Drive)
This is actually the last residence of Michael Jackson before his untimely death.
Jackson was known as The King of Pop, producing several hit records and winning a lot of awards throughout his career.
The house would eventually be sold for $18.1 million in 2012.
Our next location is even further north on Carolwood Drive.
20. Walt Disney (355 Carolwood Drive)
Further north on Carolwood Drive, you'll find one of the former residences of Walt Disney.
Although the original house no longer stands, there are signs of his influence all over the place, including a small train that became known as the Carolwood Pacific Railroad.
Originally purchased in 1949, the property would eventually be sold for $74 million in 2014 and transformed into the Kilgour Building.
Once you're done here, make your way back down to Sunset Boulevard. From there, turn onto Charing Cross Road.
21. Hugh Hefner (10236 Charing Cross Rd)
You'll find the fabled Playboy Mansion located on the west side of the Los Angeles Country Club.
When Hefner originally purchased the mansion in 1971, he got a pretty good deal for $1.05 million.
This historic building has since been sold to another party after being listed at $200 million.
Indicative of the legend behind this particular location, the rare zoo permit given exclusively to this property transferred hands to its new owner when it was sold.
Learn some fun facts about Hugh Hefner on our Hollywood Tour. Drive west until you find North Beverly Glen Boulevard and go north.
22. Steve Martin (1005 Beverly Glen Blvd)
This is just one of the houses owned by Steve Martin.
Although he began his career as a notable comedian in films such as The Jerk and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles , he has since spent most of his time playing the banjo.
As a musician, Martin has won a Grammy and even created his own award – The Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass.
After visiting this location, head south again and make your way back to Sunset. Once there, look for Bel-Air Road and drive north until you reach Copa de Oro Road.
23. Nicolas Cage (363 Copa de Oro Road)
The next stop is the home of Nicolas Cage who is an American actor and film director known for The Rock, Con-Air, and more recently Pig.
Watch the 1983 film Valley Girl starring young Nicolas Cage after visiting L.A. for fun shots of Lala Land in the 80s.
Although Cage was the most recent owner of this estate, it was also previously owned by Dean Martin in the 1960s then sold to Sir Tom Jones in 1976.
The red-brick property was designed by Gerald Concord and is affectionately known as the "Pink Palace".
This residence is situated on one of the priciest streets in America called Copa de Oro Road (translates to Cup of Gold in Spanish).
The interior includes polished wood paneling, contributing to the 18th-century country house style that was originally intended by the architect.
Our next stop is right down the road.
24. Cary Grant (10615 Bellagio Road)
Here you will find the former residence of Cary Grant, one of Hollywood's most famous stars of yesteryear.
Among other notable roles, Grant is perhaps best known as the leading man in films such as An Affair to Remember and North By Northwest .
Fun fact: his birth name was Archibald Alexander Leach.
When Paramount put him under contract, he was going to change his name to Cary Lockwood - but executives thought it sounded too long and settled on Grant.
Although it's not a particularly large or glitzy house, its proximity to the Bel-Air Country Club makes this a very desirable property.
Keep driving down Bellagio Road until you reach Carcassonne Road. Turn right and keep driving north until you get to Chalon Road. Turn left and drive west to Sarbonne Road.
Turn right here and drive north very shortly until you find Stradella Road on the left.
25. Clint Eastwood (846 Stradella Road)
This property is owned by none other than Clint Eastwood.
Although he got his start in notable westerns such as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly , Eastwood has gone on to become one of the most respected directors in Hollywood.
His recent work includes directorial work on films such as Sully and American Sniper .
Clint owns both this estate and the one next door, giving him plenty of space to work with.
This residence was designed by architect Paul McClean and completed in 2014. It has 7 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. Its last sale price was $39,000,000.
From here, it is recommended to stay on Stradella Road until you reach Roscomare Road. Turn left and drive south until you see Chalon Road once again. Keep driving south and turn onto Bellagio Road.
26. Alfred Hitchcock (10957 Bellagio Road)
On the other side of the Bel-Air Country Club, you'll find the former house of beloved director Alfred Hitchcock, who worked on over 50 features in the span of 6 decades.
In addition to directing classic horror films like Psycho and The Birds , Hitchcock was also well known for suspenseful projects like Vertigo and Rear Window .
He was considered the "master of suspense" but also a known practical joker.
Hitchcock also perfected the art of the cameo. He is featured in 39 of his films!
Hitchcock bought this home for $40,000 in 1942 and lived at this residence until his death in 1980. His wife, Alma, died in 1982.

Step inside this Paige Blodgett Scher’s first debut solo project filled with playful global patterns and personal collections.
As they prepared to tackle the interiors, the couple felt she was just the right person to help them achieve a custom, layered look that would be more about reflecting themselves than achieving a particular style. The finished product is a deeply personal home that is all about highlighting the couple’s collections and enhancing their day-to-day lives through thoughtful design that's still reflective of Scher's ethos.
“They’d already started the gutting process by the time I arrived, so the layout had already been decided,” says Scher. “My focus was more on designing millwork and doing all of the custom bookcases for them, then we could really get to space planning and floor plans.”
The couple needed a lot of flexible spaces to accommodate daily life with their three dogs while also being gracious enough to host elevated gatherings and entertain guests for long weekends. The added bonus of their many hobbies and collections being a central part of the design scheme meant it was important to Scher to create plenty of custom storage that could also double as showcase pieces.
“The wife owns endless amounts of decoupage plates and tabletop decor, while the husband has a large library of books and records, so we ended up designing and installing a full wall of bookcases in the library and family room,” Scher says. “Adding so many bookcases to the family room felt like such a risk, but in the end, it felt as if they had been a part of the room all along.”
When it came to colors and fabrics, Scher wanted to give each room its own personality while still creating a cohesive flow throughout the house that would be pleasing to the eye. The palette gently evolves from warmer and more lively colors in the entertaining spaces to darker, cozier schemes in the more private rooms, such as the family room and library. The clients brought some incredible contemporary artworks and vintage pieces that furthered the well-collected, highly personal vibe and offered inspiration for sourcing (and creating) the remaining pieces needed to complete the decoration.
“A lot of my clients come into projects with existing furniture, and I love working with familiar pieces that make the house like home right away," Scher says. "One of my favorite pieces we sourced is the Jason Trotter painting we purchased through Voltz Clarke Gallery. We were about to photograph the house, and the blank space over the mantel needed something bright and contemporary. I love the contrast between the structural lines of the painting and the vintage textiles and antiques.”
After being a part of lots of custom work for Tom Scheerer, Scher was excited to do some for her own project, and her favorite creations are the custom vanity top with scallop detailing for the powder room that pairs perfectly with the client’s vintage sconces, along with the purple sofa in the family room covered in an aubergine patterned fabric by Carolina Irving that complements the couple’s existing teal sofa.
The designer’s favorite space in the house is the dining room, as it captures the light and airiness of Southern California living with the natural linen curtains and plaster walls. She says it's the perfect canvas for the wife to create stunning tablescapes from her collections while the fabrics add an extra punch of warmth, capturing the essence of the couple’s creative vision of a visual feast that honors their passions and lifestyle.
When it came time to style the home with Lucy Bamman in preparation for photography, Blodget was pleased to see how the home had evolved already, with the wife having continued to collect accessories and further enhance the decoration to make it feel even more personal. The designer said this made the house all the more fun to style seeing how well the property suited the couple and how it could continue to evolve with them through the years.
“I’m mostly proud of this project because it was my first as an independent decorator, and I was excited to bring my style to a West Coast home and showcase versatility in my work,” says Scher.
Between the custom furnishings that accentuate the clients’ favorite elements collected over the years to the contextual color scheme that matches the stunning outdoor environment and the couple dwelling inside, consider this project Scher's calling card for places and spaces that are as much a part of a family’s identity as the people comprising it.

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Are Droppin’ Big $$ In The Bahamas!
H ollywood's latest "it" couple, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce , is packing on the PDA while enjoying the sandy beaches of The Bahamas.
As Taylor is on a break from her Eras Tour, and Travis is in his off-season of football, the couple is enjoying quality time together, including taking a vacation to the Bahamas.
Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Hit The Beach
Last week, Taylor and Travis were spotted on the Bahamas’ Harbour Island enjoying private time at the $15K-a-night Rosalita House estate.
The two got close while swimming in crystal-clear water together, as they wrapped their arms around one another and puckered up for some steamy PDA. Taylor, who had a drink in her hand while in the water, had her blonde locks up in a braided ponytail and wore black sunglasses to protect her eyes from the hot sun.
They then sat down in the shallow water and snuggled.
Inside The $15K/Night Estate
According to the official website , the luxurious Rosalita House was founded on the site of what had been an original cottage owned by NY publishers, built in the early 60’s. Unfortunately, it had been destroyed by Hurricane Andrew.
The architect behind the Rosalita House is Clem Bruns Schaub of Florida, while the inspiration for the design came from the homes designed by Oliver Messel. "Driving the interiors was the desire to have every room open to the outside, so that the indoor and outdoor spaces would merge and blend seamlessly," the website states.
The name of the house was inspired by the Bruce Springsteen song 'Rosalita'.
Highlights Of Rosalita House & Harbour Island
Rosalita House and Harbour Island offer activities both on-site and around the island.
The island's main features include Pink Sands Beach, Dunmore Town, and some of the finest restaurants in the Bahamas such as The Landing, Queen Conch, Sip-Sip, The Dunmore, and the Rock House.
We wouldn't be shocked if Travis took Taylor out to dinner at some of these fine dining locations.
Taylor Swift Wears Cheeky Yellow Bikini
The 'Red' singer opted for a cheeky yellow bikini, which showed off her toned legs and body. She seemingly went makeup-free for the beach day with her babe.
Travis opted for a pair of blue patterned swim trunks.
After some time splashing around in the water, the couple lay on the beach to get their tan on. According to Page Six, Travis was seen reapplying sunscreen onto Taylor's back.
See the PDA-filled pictures here .
France & Italy Are On The Agenda
The Bahamas are not the only destination the two will reportedly visit as a source told the US Sun that Travis booked rooms at luxurious hotels in France and Italy for when Taylor will be performing her Eras Tour. He also made reservations at some of the high-class restaurants for them to enjoy on off-days.
“He wants to take her on romantic getaways to have her relax and go discover those nice cities and European romantic places together," the source said.
Travis Kelce Stays In $25K/Night Penthouse In Australia
"I got to see two amazing shows of the Eras tour," the Kansas City Chiefs star told his brother on their podcast at the time, before continuing, "The last of the leg that Taylor has until she's back at it here in a couple of months. But yeah outside of that, got to get some lovely Singapore food and just catch the views."
The two allegedly stayed in a $25,000-per-night penthouse suite while in Australia. Yes, you read that correctly -- The NFL star and pop icon booked a luxurious suite that costs of a quarter of $100,000 (AUD) per night.
“The first floor boasts an exquisitely designed, expansive living area, stylishly curated with bespoke furnishings. The kitchen, bar, pool table, and media room are perfect for entertaining, while the dining room comfortably hosts up to 10 people,” the official website states of the suite the two reportedly stayed in.
Adding, “There is also a fully equipped office and butler’s quarters, allowing for completely personalized service, provided for by your private butler.”
It's safe to say the two enjoyed their time in Australia.

Even without its other interesting things to do, Ulm would be worth visiting for the magnificent Ulm Münster. Topped by the tallest church spire in the world - it stands at 162 meters in height - this impressive cathedral is widely regarded as one of the best preserved Gothic churches in Europe.
Tourists interested in architectural attractions will appreciate Ulm's striking blend of old and cutting-edge modern architecture, often side by side. The city is also known for its many theater, opera, and dance performances. It also boasts a first-rate professional orchestra, a large Christmas Market, and lively traditional festivals, such as Oath Monday and the Fishermen's Jousting Tournament.

Located in the city center stands Ulm Minster (Ulmer Münster), Germany's largest Gothic church after Cologne Cathedral. Started in 1377, its soaring spire was a work in progress that began in the 14th century and was finally completed in 1890 on the basis of a sketch left by Matthias Böblinger.
The tallest church spire in the world at 162 meters - five meters taller than its counterpart in Cologne - it dominates the city skyline. It's a particularly stunning sight when viewed from the banks of the nearby River Danube , especially at night.
Interior highlights include its fine choir stalls built in 1469, as well as the narrow staircase inside the tower. While it's tough going, the wonderful views to the Alps make the hard work worth it. A series of organ recitals are held throughout the summer months and are well worth attending.
A rather more current take on church architecture can be seen in the St. John the Baptist Church . This no-less impressive structure was extensively remodeled in the modernist style in the 1920s.

Set around the mouth of the River Blau, which flows into the Danube here, is where you'll find Ulm's very picturesque and skillfully restored Fischerviertel, the old Fishermen's and Tanners' Quarter. It's wonderful to explore on foot, and one of the favorite things to do in Ulm is to take a leisurely walking tour past its superbly restored half-timbered houses and stroll its inviting narrow alleyways and bridges.
A highlight of this fascinating area is the famous Crooked House (Das Schiefe Haus). This charming 14th-century timber-framed home is now a hotel ( Hotel Schiefes Haus Ulm ), but even if you're not staying here (it's a highly recommended experience), it's well worth seeing. Although much of its lean was corrected in 1620, it still leans over the river supported by its ancient beams.
The Fischerviertel area is also wonderful to explore at night when many of the old structures are lit up, and offers many excellent dining and shopping opportunities.
Address: Schwörhausgasse 6, Ulm, Germany
To the south of the Münster in the Marktplatz is the handsome Gothic Town Hall (Rathaus) with frescoes dating from 1540. With its architectural detail and frescoed Renaissance façade, there's no denying the building's visual appeal. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the intricate designs and décor were largely reconstructed after the devastation of World War II.
Originally built in the mid-14th-century, it first served as a form of medieval department store, housing a variety of different merchants and tradesmen, before becoming the town hall. Highlights of the building include a replica of the 16th-century astronomical clock , and the beautiful fountain known as the Fischkastenbrunnen (fish-tank fountain) built in 1482, which stands outside the building.
In startling contrast to this Renaissance building, beside it stands the modern glass pyramid of the Stadtbibliothek, the city library.
Address: Marktplatz 1, 89073 Ulm, Germany
Most of Ulm's 15th-century town walls have been well preserved and provide an excellent means of exploring the old town. Built in 1482 along the banks of the Danube, the walls - originally designed as a deterrent against invaders - circle the town from the Lauseck Bastion, taking in the Fishermen's and Tanners' Quarters and the boat landing stages.
Along the way, you'll find the 36-meter-tall Metzgerturm , or Butchers' Tower, which leans several feet off the vertical. You'll also find many wonderful cafés and restaurants, as well as quiet riverside spots ideal for picnics.
One of Germany's finest collections of Upper Swabian art and culture resides in Museum Ulm. Highlights of its outstanding collections of art, archaeology, and history include the 40,000-year-old Lion Man, carved from mammoth ivory and the oldest known animal carving in the world.
Works by 20th-century artists including Klee, Picasso, and Lichtenstein are shown in the Kurt Fried Collection. Take a little time to also see the sculptures by Michel Erhart Joerg Syrlin the Elder and paintings by Martin Schaffner and Bartholomew Zeitblom.
Connected to the museum and worthy of a visit is the Archive of the Ulm School of Design. This popular gallery is well-known for its displays of artworks from the 50s and 60s.

Located just five kilometers from Ulm is the large Benedictine monastery of Wiblingen . Founded in the 11th-century and dissolved in 1803, Wiblingen Abbey (Wiblingen Kloster) is home to a magnificent Baroque church built in 1780, with outstanding sculptures and ceiling paintings by Januarius Zick.
The monastery's highlight, though, is its sumptuously decorated Rococo library, one of the finest examples of that style. Its interior is ringed by a gallery set on highly ornamented columns, and combines with the statues and ceiling fresco for an airy and whimsical style that seems almost frivolous for a monastery.
Today, the building houses the Museum im Konventbau , which paints a fascinating picture of the role of the abbey over the centuries.

One of Ulm's most unusual places to visit, the unique Museum of Bread Culture (Museum Brot und Kunst) offers a fascinating insight into the history of bread and baking from ancient to modern times. Exhibits cover everything from the growing of grains and harvesting of crops, to the social implications of bread (or a lack thereof) upon populations, as well as its impact on art and culture.
The museum also houses an impressive art collection based upon these themes. It includes pieces from the Middle Ages to modern times by artists such as Rembrandt, Dalí, Picasso, and Man Ray. English language guided tours are available.

A highlight of Ulm's old town center is the wonderful Oath House, or Schwörhaus. Built on what was, in AD 854, the old Kings Palace, the existing 17th-century structure becomes the most important building in Ulm the first Monday of July. Known as Oath Monday, it's on this day that the city's Lord Mayor gives his account of the previous year's events.
What's remarkable is that this tradition has taken place every year since 1397, and the day is marked with celebrations and events. Also noteworthy here is the local history museum, which is located within the Oath House.
Another nearby tourist attraction that's worth a visit is the lovely Christopher Fountain dating from 1584.
Address: Weinhof 12, Ulm
For those traveling with children, one of the best places to visit is the delightful, though small, Tiergarten Ulm. Certainly no equal to the outstanding zoos in Leipzig or Munich, Ulm's Tiergarten has a respectable collection of exotic animals along with goats, deer, alpacas, and other animals. More exotic creatures live in the Tropical House, where you can see wallabies, Capuchin monkeys, Mississippi alligators, crocodiles, gibbons, and other warm climate species.
Children are especially fascinated by the aquatic displays, which include an 18-meter-long Danube Tunnel for cold water fish, and tropical fish swimming among coral and sea anemones. A nice park adjoins the zoo, with sculptures and playgrounds for children.
Address: Friedrichsau 40, Ulm, Germany
The Danube Swabian Museum (Donauschwäbisches Zentralmuseum) is well worth visiting for a better understanding of the regional history. Highlights include the Ulmer Schachtel (literally the "Ulm Box"), an 18th-century wooden boat used to transport emigrants down the Danube as far as Hungary.
Many of the museum's fascinating exhibits in fact focus on the story of these immigrants, who settled at various points along the Danube in the 17th and 18th centuries, showing the everyday life of those villages and towns between Budapest and Belgrade where the Danube Swabians settled.
The exhibits not only trace the lives of these Swabian people through a history marked by world wars and Iron Curtain repressions, but consider the current status of German minorities in Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Croatia. Guided tours are available, and a gift shop is located on-site.

You can't miss this sleek modern building next to the more traditional architecture of the Ulm Museum - especially because in front of it stands the large red Dog sculpture by Keith Haring. Inside this must-see attraction are works selected (and rotated annually) by art collector Siegfried Weishaupt, representing 20th-century and modern art movements .
Included are works by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko, Josef Albers, Dan Flavin, Willem de Kooning, Kenny Scharf, Tony Cragg, Robert Longo, and others. Don't miss the great views of the cathedral spires from the balcony. Guided tours are available, and if you're feeling peckish, be sure to stop in at the on-site café.

While fountains are a common sight in many European cities, as are monuments to famous native sons, none is more unusual that Ulm's Einstein Fountain (Einstein Brunnen). This unique cast bronze sculpture depicts a large snail (chosen to represent nature and wisdom) standing on a rocket (representing the scientist's studies in time, space, and atomic theory) that shoots water from its base.
Emerging from the snail is the head of Einstein in the famous pose with his tongue stuck out and hair in wild disarray. The fountain, which sits at the 16th-century Zeughaus arsenal, was created by Jürgen Goertz in 1984. Einstein was born in Ulm, but lived here only the first year of his life.
