TOURNAMENT RESULTS
{{tournament.sponsortitle}}, player results, rublev notches 20th masters 1000 win of season in paris.
Andrey Rublev became just the fourth player this year to earn 20 ATP Masters 1000 match wins when he brushed aside Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals at the Rolex Paris Masters on Thursday.
The fifth seed was at his devastating best against the Dutchman, hammering 18 winners and committing just four unforced errors to advance to his 12th tour-level quarter-final of the season after 65 minutes.
Rublev captured his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title in Monte-Carlo earlier this year and holds a 20-7 record at this level in 2023. Only Carlos Alcaraz (25), Daniil Medvedev (25) and Jannik Sinner (21) have earned more wins at Masters 1000 events in 2023.
“Today it went my way,” Rublev said. “Early breaks gave me some confidence. From one set up you play with more freedom and then with a break in the second more free. Then you can go for even more.”
Rublev, who will compete at the Nitto ATP Finals later this month, will continue his quest for a third title of the year when he faces 13th seed Alex de Minaur in the last eight.

World No. 4 Jannik Sinner withdrew ahead of his match with de Minaur due to fatigue. The Italian won a lengthy three-set battle that finished at 2:37 a.m. this morning with American Mackenzie McDonald . De Minaur remains in the hunt for a place at the Nitto ATP Finals .
In other action, Grigor Dimitrov backed up his standout win against Daniil Medvedev with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Alexander Bublik . The Bulgarian has now advanced to two Masters 1000 quarter-finals this year, having reached the semi-finals in Shanghai last month.
The 32-year-old’s best result in Paris was a semi-final run in 2019. He will aim to match that feat when he takes on Hubert Hurkacz or Francisco Cerundolo on Friday.

Paris Masters: Novak Djokovic beats Andrey Rublev to set up final with Grigor Dimitrov
Dimitrov advanced to his second Masters final after he beat seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas; Dimitrov is chasing his first tour-level tournament since 2017, when he won the ATP Finals
Saturday 4 November 2023 22:36, UK
Novak Djokovic came back from a set down to beat Andrey Rublev in the Paris Masters semi-final and maintain his perfect record.
The world No 1 won 5-7 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 and will face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in Sunday's final as he looks to claim his seventh title at the ATP Masters 1000.
Dimitrov advanced to his second Masters final after he beat seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-7 (1-7) 7-6 (7-3).

"Rublev was suffocating me like a snake suffocates a frog for most of the match," Djokovic said.
"He was playing an extremely high level that he possesses, but today he was off the charts, honestly. I don't think I've ever faced Rublev this good."
The Russian fifth seed earned a set point at 6-5 in the opener when he made the most of a weak second serve by Djokovic with an backhand return that he followed up with a forehand winner.
Rublev looked as though he was in trouble in the fifth game of the second set at 0-40 but managed to save three break points and held for a 4-3 lead after saving another break point.

In the tie break Djokovic moved to a 4-2 lead after coming out on top of a long rally and was then 6-3 ahead after a stunning forehand return and sealed the set with an ace.
Djokovic then called the physio to receive treatment on his back before Rublev hit a double-fault on match point to give the six-time Paris Masters champion victory and slammed his racquet on the floor in frustration.

Dimitrov stars against Tsitsipas
Earlier, Dimitrov powered to a 3-0 lead at the start of the match but Tsitsipas took the second set to a tie-break.
Dimitrov made several mistakes in the tiebreaker as Tsitsipas forced a decider, gesturing toward the crowd to ask for support.
"I am just happy I was able to get through that match in such a manner," Dimitrov said.
"After that second set, especially the tiebreak, it was getting very tricky again. 15-40 down in the third again and I was just thinking it can't keep going like this, so I have to change something."

Tsitsipas was unable to convert four break point chances in the third game and in the final tiebreaker Dimitrov hit three stunning passing shots, including one to seal the match.
"The first five points in the tiebreak were excellent," Dimitrov said.
"I took those chances and that was all I could do against such a high-quality player. If you let him dictate, you are done.
"But I kept on believing and kept staying focused and made sure every time I had the ball on the racquet, I did something with it."
Dimitrov is chasing his first tour-level tournament since 2017, when he won the ATP Finals. He reached his only previous Masters 1000 final the same year in Cincinnati.

Ben Shelton to skip the Paris Olympics to prioritize US Open
- James Richardson
- March 9, 2024
Ben Shelton has indicated that he will likely skip the Paris Olympics is he qualifies given the clash the tournament has with the start of the US Open swing.
Shelton hasn’t made his call on the tournament just yet but suggested the schedule made the Olympics an unattractive prospect for a player like himself.
The young American said that he wouldn’t be staying on in Europe after Wimbledon under his current plans.
“Yeah. Definitely thought about it a lot. I’d say now I’m leaning towards not going this year if I were to make it. I think it’s tough in the tennis schedule this year,” Shelton said.
“I’ll be in Europe for two months leading up to Wimbledon and then after, you know, I want to prepare and really get ready for the US Open. So having to go back to Europe to play on clay, a different surface, you know, it kind of messes up a few lead-up tournaments to the US Open that I would play if I wasn’t playing the Olympics,” Shelton added.
Shelton suggested that he would be eager to make his Olympic debut at the 2028 games in Los Angeles.
“But, you know, 100% I would want to play in LA in 2028 which is on the same side of the world as the US Open and on the same surface but I guess we’ll just see. Who knows what happens this summer,” Shelton said.
Shelton is breaking new ground all the time but was shocked to face a player two years younger than himself at Indian Wells.
“I was just in the locker room talking to somebody saying, ‘Yeah, this is the first time I’ve played someone who’s younger than me and not around my same age,” Shelton said. “I’ve played Carlos (Alcaraz) and Holger (Rune) who are like a year (younger), and Arthur Fils, who’s like a year and a half (younger).
“But three years younger, it’s really impressive what that kid is doing and brings to the table as an 18-year-old.”
Shelton had to fight back from a set down to best Jakub Mensik at Indian Wells.
He stayed calm under pressure though and showed why he gets so many plaudits.
“I knew the match was far from over after the first set and it only took one small chance or one look to be able to turn things around,” said Shelton.
“And I was able to execute in the right moments to make that happen.”

Rafael Nadal expected back on the clay at Monte Carlo
Rafael Nadal is set to make his return to the ATP Tour on the clay courts of Monte Carlo next month, tournament organisers announced on Tuesday.
"You never know what he's going to do, but I saw him training with his coaches on a private court... and I had the impression I was listening to a wild beast. He hits like he's never hit before," said tournament director David Massey at a press conference in Paris.
"He felt some discomfort, so he was scared and decided not to play at Indian Wells, but the tests he underwent showed nothing," he added.
Nadal, with 22 Grand Slam titles to his name, has dropped to 652nd in the ATP rankings this week and used a protected ranking of ninth to get into the main draw in Monte Carlo, the first clay-court Masters 1000 event of the 2024 season.
The clay specialist has won the tournament 11 times in his career but since his last victory in 2018, he fell at the semi-finals in 2019, the quarters in 2021 and missed the 2020, 2022 and 2023 editions.
"We sent him two boxes of balls to Mallorca so that he could practise (with the balls that will be used in the tournament)," said Massey.
Nadal missed almost all of the 2023 season with abdominal and other injuries and has played only the Brisbane International this season, where he suffered a flare-up of a hip injury.
The 37-year-old Spaniard was set to make his comeback at the Indian Wells Masters but pulled out of the hard-court event last week without playing a point.
The bombshell decision came four days after he lost a Las Vegas exhibition to compatriot and world number two Carlos Alcaraz.
The Monte Carlo Masters begins on April 7 and marks the beginning of the clay-court season where Nadal may well play his last-ever French Open, a Grand Slam event he has won a record 14 times.
