As cannabis tourism starts to go mainstream, cities with robust weed culture have turned the typical travel offerings on their heads.

These days, you might find yourself going on a rolling sushi and joints in Denver, puffing while painting in Portland, or ripping a vape on a party bus tour of San Francisco. In other words, getting stoned on the go has gotten a lot more creative than just toking up in the parking lot before a show.

In states where recreational cannabis is legal, you can now find bud-and-breakfasts for lodging, ganja-fueled empowerment getaways for women, and even spiritual church services to put you in tune with a higher power. Here are 10 of the best cannabis experiences you'll find coast to coast.

Multnomah Falls Tour in Portland, Oregon

High5Tours offers an outing within Portland, Oregon that's a lot of fun – after all, smoking pot on a private party bus with your crew or a handful of new friends is already super appealing. But you can really take it up to eleven with the Multnomah Falls Tour , which heads into the Columbia River Gorge to see Portland's most beloved waterfall. No, seriously – Multnomah Falls is so revered there's a LEGO version in the PDX airport. After taking in the falls, you'll have a chance to see the Gorge from above at Vista House, a scenic overlook, with a stop at a dispensary to stock up on supplies.

Puff, Pass and Paint

Founded by Denver-based landscape painter Heidi Keyes Puff, Pass and Paint began with painting classes in Colorado. It has now expanded to dozens of art-based classes and tours in 13 cities across the US including Washington, DC, and Boston .

These classes are held in private residences and BYOMJ (Bring Your Own Mary Jane), but smoking, vaping and eating edibles are all encouraged (though not required). The company also offers Puff, Pass & Bake cooking classes where you’ll learn how to make ‘budder,’ (cannabis infused butter for baking) as well as other infused concoctions from ice cream to hard candy.

Glowing Goddess Getaways

Open only to those who identify as women, Glowing Goddess Getaways are weekend ganja retreats meant to be shared with a few of your favorite friends — so long as you don’t mind glamping.

The retreats are held at private outdoor destinations across the US in states where recreational marijuana consumption is legal. The experience combines all-you-can-consume-cannabis, from dab bars loaded with smoky rips of shatter to infused chocolate fountains to platters of joints, with activities from yoga to dance to meditation meant to uplift and empower your inner goddess.

Cannabis Supper Club in Los Angeles

Leave it to Los Angeles to combine cannabis and haut cuisine for a high-flying, exclusive fine dining experience. The Cannabis Supper Club counts great strains of flower as just one of the Cali-fresh farm to table ingredients that are the backbone of a great meal. Chefs, growers, mixologists, and event specialists team up to create one-of-a-kind meals in private spaces that skirt the state's public consumption laws.

Strains of cannabis are paired with each course or incorporated into the dishes the way you typically include fine wine in a dinner. Every supper club is different, but one thing is for sure – the munchies hit different when you're slurping Shigoku oysters and dashi-dusted filet to satisfy your cravings instead of emptying a stale bag of Cheetos into your mouth.

Hunter S. Thompson's "Red Shark" Arrives At Cannabition

Cannabition Immersive Cannabis Museum in Las Vegas

You can’t currently get high inside Cannabition, the world’s first museum dedicated entirely to weed, although founder JJ Walker hopes that will change at some point in the future. Hit up a dispensary or one of the city’s new cannabis social lounges to blaze up before heading to this immersive, highly Instagram-friendly museum — or just pop an edible an hour before arriving and you’ll be in exactly the right state of mind.

Inside you can ride a slide into a pool of kind bud or snap a selfie lighting joint that is longer than you. But besides the fun photo ops, Cannabition is also educational, giving a great history of the cannabis plant’s biology, use and the culture around it.

Bud & Breakfast, Multiple Locations

This expanding brand has cannabis-friendly properties around the world where vaping, and in some cases smoking, is allowed in rooms or public spaces.

In the town of Idyllwild in the San Jacinto Mountains, about 100 miles from Los Angeles , Hicksville Pines Bud & Breakfast is the first of its kind in the state. There are 10 themed rooms and smoking is allowed in Room 420. All common areas are also weed friendly providing you vape, along with, community vaporizers are on offer.

Sushi & Joint Rolling in Denver

In Denver , My 420 Tours offers a number of cannabis-focused experiences including a Sushi & Joint Rolling class . First, you learn to hand roll a dispensary-professional quality joint packed with the herb of your choice — before class, you’ll get a coupon to purchase two grams of weed for $10 from a local recreational dispensary. After perfecting your spliff, it’s time to head outside and puff in the designated smoking area before returning to the classroom to learn how to roll sushi.

Held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in a residential space (so you can legally smoke outside), the two-hour class frequently sells out. The experience costs $79 per person.

Mary Jane Fonda in Portland, Oregon

Founder Amarett Jans busts both stereotypes and moves with Mary Jane Fonda , a popup fitness experience in which participants get more than their heart rates high.

Forget the picture of couchlock and munchies you might have in your head when you picture blazing. Instead, this blend of aerobics, yoga, and smoke sessions lasts longer than your typical workout and instead becomes a party dedicated to wellness on all fronts.

Summer of Love -- California

Cannabis-Infused City Cruise Tours, San Francisco

If you want a VIP cannabis experience in San Francisco then sign up for Emerald Farm’s Cannabis-Infused City Cruise Tour . Ride in style in a luxury limo and as you check out San Francisco’s most famous sights and weed-focused tourist attractions.

‘The Cannabis-Infused City Tour is a great way to meet local enthusiasts and see the city while you’re doing it,’ says Victro Pinho, the CEO and Founder of Emerald Farm Tours. ‘All through the lens of someone who cares about the community and not just the business. Oh, and you can smoke weed.’

You’ll also get top-shelf VIP treatment at all the retail cannabis lounges you visit and deep discounts on cannabis that's only offered only to tour guests.

Puff Puff Pour, Portland, Oregon

Oregon was the first state in the US to decriminalize possession of small amounts of cannabis in 1973. It was the third state to legalize recreational marijuana and today, one of its biggest industry issues is its weed surplus .

With all this herb, it’s little wonder Oregon also has some cool cannabis experiences. Puff Puff Pour by the Oregon Cannabis Concierge is a twist on food and beverage pairings by replacing the food with weed.

During the two-hour sessions, you’ll sample three unique strains of cannabis via a vape pen paired with three carefully selected beverages from craft beer to small-batch spirits and even cold brew coffees depending on the herb. You’ll also have an opportunity to speak with the cannabis farmers about the strains selected for your pairing.

What Our Guests Are Saying ★★★★★

Weed-Tour-logo

The Best Day of My Life thanks Chris! The only way I can describe this tour is fun, amazing, and the best day of my life haha. We were able to see not only an indoor and an outdoor grow house, visit a dispensary, and also see the majestic Redwood trees! All while hanging out with the homies. Chris and Misha felt like old friends that I had not seen in forever. You also get baked and go to this amazing bakery in a cute downtown area.

A one of a kind experience! This was a truly unique and fun experience. The tour guide was a great driver and really entertaining. Each stop on the tour had something different to share and it was very informative. We bought so many fresh baked goods to take home! All of this and a gorgeous drive through the beautiful Mendocino countryside. This is not your great Aunt's stuffy wine tour. This is a tour like nothing you've ever experienced before.

We loved our Woods, Wine & Weed Tour with Misha! Perfect way to celebrate a 21st birthday! We covered everything from a cannabis farm, to a delicious wine tasting, to a dispensary, to a tasty lunch in Hopland, to a beautiful walk in the woods to see ancient redwoods. We are locals and yet Misha took us to exceptional places that we had never heard of. A wonderful day in Northern California, whether you are a native or a just in town for a visit.

Amazing day with everything you hope to see!! Truly the perfect Cannabis day! Incredible Northern California, The Emerald Triangle. A truly great tour, the day was put together perfectly and we all had an incredible time. Lunch was to die for, I brought a Peach Pie home for $8 from the bakery deli we visited. I also got a few nice flowers and concentrates from the dispensaries. Great for both the experienced and the new Cannabis enthusiast!

Recommending to everyone visiting California! We originally book for the wine and weed tour as not both of us are into cannabis and wanted something to tick two boxes and due to the ever growing business requirements we understood that cancelling this tour and putting us in another due to lack of demand was fair enough - we thoroughly enjoyed nevertheless! Chris was a fantastic tour guide, reciting poems and giving us a guide on Everything we drove past, including the history of cannabis too - a really amazing touch for a long bus journey. The tour was amazing, we hugely enjoyed the book ended dispensaries, ability to wander around by ourselves and also the redwoods!! OMG the redwoods, perfect touch to make the tour more friendly to people who don’t use cannabis. We can not wait to visit again when the company is thriving and to see how you’re all getting on - hugely recommend to anyone wanting to smoke, relax and enjoy some history. Thank you so much Chris x

Best Tour Ever! Why go on a wine tour when you could go on a wine AND weed tour? The best tour of my life! Its a full tour packed with just the right amount of activities. On the drive up Misha was very knowledgable about historical and local facts and I learned a lot about the Bay Area. We stopped at a few dispensaries and a permaculture farm. He knows all the great spots and exactly what to do and where to go. Ive driven through Mendocino county a million times but never knew where to stop! After we had explored a few dispensaries we were famished. I guess going to multiple dispensaries is hard work (or perhaps we were suddenly hungry for a different reason...who knows?). We stopped at a delicious restaurant for lunch before heading to a beautiful winery overlooking vineyards, a marijuana lounge and a marijuana farm. At the farm Misha took us around and showed us how Marijuana is grown. It was very informative. The drive home was a breeze because we all took a little nap. Highly recommend this tour if you are looking for a fun, unique tour or if you would like to learn more about the marijuana industry.

The Mendocino Experience is IT! I had such a wonderful time on our weed tour with Misha. We met at the dispensary and were warmly greeted, got our shop on at the dispensary and then enjoyed a smoke outside. We went to tour the pot farm and it was beautiful and serene. We learned about the different types of growing conditions (outdoor, light dep, greenhouse) on-site and then we just got to sit back and feed the fish at the farm, and enjoy a nice doobie as we sat on the porch and chatted. As a cherry on top we stopped at the winery and enjoyed a bottle with Misha. He was a great tour guide - filled to the brim with information and funny stories. My hubby left his water bottle and they got it back to him - talk about top notch customer service! I would HIGHLY recommend the Mendocino Experience Cannabis Farm Tour to anyone!

This tour was so much fun! Our guide Chris was so amazing from beginning to end. He was really cool to hangout with too. I knew things were going to be a bit different given the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic but Chris was so professional and did a great job making the best of times. His education was very entertaining. We ate at a great restaurant which hit the spot. The best part for me was instead of wine tasting I was bud tasting!!!!! My husband and I choose to take a ride up to see the redwoods after the farm. I highly suggest doing this! The ride is insane but it is so worth it if you can hang. Chris, thanks for being our guiding light you really got us out our comfort zone and took me to one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen in my 40 years on this earth. The Emerald Triangle is a must if your in the San Francisco area. I could see how a large group would be make this tour lots of fun but the small group we had made it very peaceful. Just us and the beautiful trees!!!!

This was my first tour guide experience and I had a blast! We were treated like VIP'S the entire time and learned a ton about the history of the area and about the Cannabis industry. The cannabis farm tour was beyond my expectations and I have a new respect for the commercial side of the business. It was truly magical walking amongst the plants in full bloom! Misha was great about checking in to make sure everyone had a great time and truly guided the experience. It was so much better than anything I could have curated on my own and I definitely look forward to taking another tour next time I'm back in the area!

The Mendocino Experience was truly one of the best days of my adult life! From morning pick up to evening drop off, I enjoyed the entirety of my day! The first stop is truly a magical place filled with beautiful vistas of nature and a gorgeous farm! We had the chance to enjoy some herbs out on the deck and walked around taking it all in. Misha is an excellent tour guide and we could not have done this amazing trip without him. He cracked us up the whole day and gave a lot of great information about how to grow plants and harvest them. Our lunch spot was delicious and the winery was spectacular! There is nothing better then weed and wine and great food! The winery itself is beautiful! We sat outside right next to the vineyard sampling the wines and walking among the vines. This tour is highly recommended for anyone coming to the Bay Area! They have everything you would want on a tour. Best 420 tour for the best price! Loved every minute. Book a tour today!

Visiting pot farms in California On my trip to San Francisco, I had an unforgettable experience traveling on a cannabis farm tour with the mendoexperience. Chris is an unrivaled storyteller, an awesome guide and a great actor. I learned a lot of new and interesting things on the farm, where the atmosphere is very friendly and fun. Definitely, this is a unique trip that will forever remain in your memory. Highly recommended!

Top-Rated 420 Weed Tours for your Next Trip to Denver, CO

Colorado’s Best 420-Friendly Cabins, RV Parks and Campgrounds

  • October 5, 2023

It's no surprise that the beautiful state of Colorado is at the helm of the weed movement. These lawmakers and 420 activists have been hitting the pavement hard for almost ten years. When Colorado became super marijuana-friendly and legalization happened in 2012, the entire Rocky Mountain population created their own style of celebrations.

Everything cannabis seemed to spring out of nowhere, but none more so than in the capital city of Denver. This Mile High City has been at the forefront of medical marijuana dispensaries, cannabis lodging, and weed-friendly tours. In fact, 420 tours of Colorado are all the rage and an extra boon to the entire cannabis industry that's shown no sign of letting up.

Denver 420 Tours Explained

For the novice individual navigating your way through all the legalities and education surrounding the cannabis industry, it's worth noting that Colorado has been leading the charge for quite some time. Most touring agent businesses and enterprises have jumped on the bandwagon to ensure travelers to this fine state actually submerge into the cannabis culture. They can feel an experience like no other. A 420 tour is precisely what the medical marijuana doctor ordered.

Most 420 tours offer an enormous range of activities and learning environments. From cooking classes to conversations with growers and budtenders, to marijuana-infused dinners, all the way up to lodging and supreme accommodations at a 420-friendly vacation stay--you can get the most high-end deal and experience for what you're willing to pay. Consider this a marijuana vacation that's something you've always wanted to do, yet never explored how it all works and what's involved.

Safe to say that a 420 tour of Denver is the premier place to get started.

The 5 Best 420 Weed Tours in the Mile High City

If you've ever been to Denver, you'll understand how progressive and incredibly clean the city is, not to mention the cultural aspect of the vibe that prevails. Cannabis-friendly places abound, with the overall population welcoming the legalization of marijuana and its natural benefits.

North Carolina's 1st dispensary will open on 4/20, but only for medical cannabis

north 420 tours

North Carolina's first marijuana dispensary will open on April 20. It will be the region's first opportunity to purchase the drug, which has been legalized by nearly half of American states while remaining illegal in North Carolina.

However, not everyone will be able to purchase marijuana at the dispensary.

For North Carolinians, only those with a Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians medical marijuana card will be able to purchase products at the dispensary, despite a September referendum showing widespread support for the sale of recreational marijuana, the Great Smoky Cannabis Company announced March 25. The dispensary will also sell to those who have out-of-state medical marijuana cards or other tribal medical cannabis cards.

Despite the pause on recreational sales, the type of products sold will vary widely, according to the Great Smoky Company news release.

"The new dispensary will open with high-quality tested products—including flower, vape products, edibles, topicals, and more—carefully curated to meet the diverse needs of patients. Product selection will continue to grow and evolve each month," the March 25 news release said.

The Great Smoky Cannabis Company is located at 91 Bingo Loop Road in Cherokee, where the dispensary website currently provides updates for future menu changes and a virtual tour of the 10,000 square-foot facility.

Recreational to come?

The effort to distribute marijuana at the 10,000 square-foot dispensary has been met with recent criticism from regional and statewide Republican lawmakers .

Congressman Chuck Edwards created the "Stop Pot Act" opposing the sale of medical and recreational marijuana throughout the United States and included a provision to remove federal funding for states and tribes who have passed legalization laws. North Carolina's two senators, Thom Tillis and Ted Budd, issued statements asking questions about the legality of marijuana on tribal lands.

Democratic State rep. Caleb Rudow — who is running for congress — and EBCI Chief Michell Hicks, have pointed to health benefits of marijuana and tribal sovereignty in defense of the dispensary, as previously reported by Citizen Times.

Though the referendum on the topic of recreational marijuana saw widespread support, Tribal Council has not yet passed a resolution amending current tribal laws to allow for the sale of recreational marijuana.

Cherokee One Feather reported the Tribal Council joint statement March 28. The council said they would continue to pursue the passage of recreational marijuana use.

"With 70 percent of voters in favor, we acknowledge the significance of this vote.  Since then, we have approached this responsibility seriously so that any legislation concerning cannabis is practical and thoughtful. This is a process that cannot be rushed; there are numerous factors to consider so that we are able to make the best decisions as these are decisions that can have significant long-term impacts on our tribe," the statement read, according to Cherokee One Feather.

Other questions about the project include how the marijuana will be transported to the dispensary. Roads from the farm where the cannabis is grown lead into Swain County territory where the plant remains illegal under North Carolina state law.

Qualla Enterprises General Manager Forrest Parker said there were two plans to transport marijuana from the Coopers Creek Road farm during the late-February work session on the adult-use ordinance.

One plan would have product moved through the air — meaning a plane or helicopter — while another would use a specific set of roads from the Coopers Creek farm to deliver the product to the dispensary, Parker said during the meeting.

How do you qualify for a medical cannabis patient card?

Since the region's first taste of marijuana — also known as cannabis or weed — only applies to those who qualify, here's a refresher on the rules for the region:

In order to qualify for a card, you must be a resident of North Carolina, 21 years old, along with paying $100 for the first issuance and an additional $100 for every year the card is renewed. Payment can only be made by cash, check or money order.

Tribal marijuana law only applies to Tribal lands. Cannabis remains illegal in North Carolina and federally.

After applying, patients must submit a recent photo with a white background.

In order to medically qualify, a resident must have a medical attestation from a physician that they have one of 18 qualifying conditions. No prescription is needed.

You can learn more at:  https://ebci-ccb.org/

Here are the conditions which qualify patients for a medical cannabis patient card:

Conditions for a medical cannabis patient card

  • Acquired immune deficiency syndromes.
  • Anxiety disorders.
  • Autism spectrum disorder.
  • An autoimmune disease.
  • Anorexia nervosa.
  • Dependence upon or addiction to opioids.

  • A neuropathic condition, whether or not such condition causes seizures.

Missy Elliott announces first headlining tour featuring Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Timbaland

north 420 tours

Missy Elliott just dropped an "out of this world" announcement.

The rapper, 52, on Monday revealed she will embark on her first headline tour, Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience, which heads across North America this summer and will feature Busta Rhymes , Ciara and Timbaland .

"Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family!" Elliott said.

News of the tour was also shared in a sci-fi themed video , which was posted hours before Monday's total solar eclipse . In the clip, Elliott, Busta Rhymes and Ciara are seen outside of a spaceship realizing they have made a wrong turn and ended up on another planet. A press release announcing the tour also declared that Monday's "solar phenomenon was eclipsed" by Elliott's own "supernova announcement."

For Elliott, the tour comes after she made history last year as the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame . She told "Good Morning America" in November that "words cannot describe" how much of an honor this was. "When you're in the hip-hop world, it seems so far out of reach," she said.

Between that induction and this tour, the "Work It" singer said Monday, "This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone 'firsts.'"

Her 24-city tour will commence on July 4 at Vancouver's Rogers Arena and conclude at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, on Aug. 22.

The rapper's manager, Mona Scott-Young, said in a statement, "Missy has always been an iconic groundbreaker and continuously pushes herself to be bolder and go where she has never been before – and surprisingly, one of those places is headlining her own tour!"

Eclipse Day Will Make New York State’s Budget Even Later

New York lawmakers are moving closer to a deal on a state budget, but a slew of obstacles remain, including the timing of Monday’s total eclipse.

An exterior view of the empty courtyard on the eastern side of the New York State Capitol.

By Grace Ashford and Claire Fahy

Reporting from the State Capitol in Albany, N.Y.

For those who say that an on-time budget in New York State is about as likely as a solar eclipse, the odds on an eclipse are about to improve.

The negotiations over the state budget, which was due on April 1, have stretched on for more than a week past the deadline as differences over housing, education and health care have divided Democratic legislative leaders in Albany.

Now an eclipse has become grounds for further delay: The Assembly has decided not to hold session on Monday to allow members to view the astrological phenomenon from the comfort of their home districts.

Gov. Kathy Hochul, a moderate Democrat from Buffalo, has sought to use the budget to address what she sees as some of the most pressing issues facing the state: rising education and health care costs; a housing shortage; and the stubborn persistence and residual damage of retail theft.

But an increasingly progressive Legislature has its own ideas, rejecting the governor’s proposals on education and health care and calling for more tenant protections, climate measures and an expansion of free bus service in all five boroughs.

Ms. Hochul said that negotiations with leaders in the Legislature had been respectful and productive.

“We are not finished yet,” she said on Thursday, adding: “But I also think there’s a lot of good progress made. Everybody’s rolling up their sleeves ready to work.”

Here’s where things stand:

Legislature triumphs on education, for now

A proposal to change the way that school aid is calculated is off the table for the time being, Ms. Hochul confirmed on Thursday.

The proposal had been part of the governor’s push to modernize the state’s education funding formula, which relies on enrollment figures that are more than a decade old.

Legislature leaders acknowledged that the formula was out of date, but rejected the governor’s proposal, which would have caused half of New York’s school districts to lose funds in an election year.

Even so, Ms. Hochul vowed to put a new process in place by next year’s budget.

“I’m giving everybody the notice, the warning that they all ask for,” she told reporters on Thursday. “There will be a different formula. And I’m just deciding with the leaders how that mechanism will work.”

Lawmakers have also refused to include an extension of mayoral control of New York City schools in the state budget, opting to push the matter into the second half of the legislative session.

Cracking down on shoplifting and illegal cannabis

Every year since taking office, Ms. Hochul has sparred with the Legislature over criminal justice, and this year is no exception.

In her executive budget, the governor proposed increasing criminal penalties for attacks on retail workers, part of a broad strategy aimed at addressing what she called an upward trend of organized retail theft that had been particularly conspicuous in New York City.

Democrat lawmakers have been largely skeptical of increasing penalties, questioning whether such measures are an effective deterrent.

“The question should not be, ‘Are you going to raise penalties because you wanted to deter crime?’” Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie told reporters on Tuesday. “The question should be, ‘Do you want to raise penalties because you want people in jail longer?’”

More popular is a proposal that would give localities more power to crack down on the proliferation of unlicensed cannabis vendors , which many worry will continue to undermine the nascent legal market.

Last month, Ms. Hochul ordered a review of the state’s cannabis regulator , which oversaw a sluggish legalization and licensing process.

A long-awaited deal on housing

Last year, Ms. Hochul proposed an ambitious plan to tackle affordable housing, only to have the clock run out after lawmakers failed to come to an agreement that would satisfy developers, tenants, labor and localities.

State leaders are trying again this year, working toward a deal they hope will spur construction of thousands of new housing units over the next decade , while still protecting existing tenants.

Such a measure is likely to include some type of affordable housing tax credit and an expansion of tenant protections in line with the legislation known as “good cause.” That bill, which would protect tenants from unreasonable rent increases and require landlords to offer lease renewals, has been fiercely opposed by landlords.

And while progress has been made on a deal, questions remain about who would be subject to the protections, and whether localities can opt out of regulations, among other things.

Even so, the governor said, a deal was close: “We’re in the homestretch,” she said on Thursday.

Cameras in courtrooms, and Cuomo’s legal bills

The Senate wants to allow audiovisual equipment in New York courtrooms, paving the way for journalists to record and even broadcast trials directly to the public.

Under the proposal, a judge could decide on a case-by-case basis where and when to allow the media to observe legal proceedings. Under current law, recording is never allowed, even if a judge believes it is in the public interest.

The measure could theoretically be in place for the criminal trial of former President Donald J. Trump, who is charged with having sent hush money to a porn star during his 2016 presidential run. That trial is scheduled to begin April 15.

New York is one of just two states to summarily restrict audiovisual equipment in courtrooms, according to Brad Hoylman-Sigal, the Judiciary Committee chairman and the sponsor of the bill.

The Senate is also behind a push to restrict elected officials from having their legal bills reimbursed by taxpayers.

The measure poses a not-so-subtle threat to former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who has been embroiled in litigation over sexual harassment claims, his handling of nursing homes during the Covid-19 pandemic, and efforts to seize the proceeds from a $5 million book deal.

Mr. Cuomo, who has denied any wrongdoing and fought back in the courts, has accumulated millions of dollars’ worth of legal bills.

Thus far, the former governor has sought reimbursement for $1.75 million, but records show the total amount could be many times that figure.

It is not yet clear where the Assembly and the governor’s office stand on the proposal.

Other issues on the table

With so many major items still unresolved, lawmakers, activists and lobbyists sense openings to wedge some of their favored proposals into the budget.

Environmentalists believe this could be the year that New York adopts a transformative bill aimed at forcing the transition from gas to renewables, called the N.Y. Heat Act . The measure, which would repeal gas incentives and institute price caps to ensure affordability, has drawn fierce opposition from the fossil fuel industry, which says the bill will drive up costs for consumers.

Ms. Hochul embraced only a limited version of the proposal in her executive budget, but advocates are hoping to get her full support.

Lawmakers also want to spend $45 million to expand free bus service in New York City from one line per borough to three; the proposal has the support of nearly every member of New York’s congressional delegation.

Politics in the New York Region

A Housing Deal: The deal could clear the way for the construction of new homes and make it more difficult for landlords to evict renters , if lawmakers in Albany can find a compromise.

A Jail Project: The demolition of a Manhattan jail complex in Chinatown to make way for a bigger one has damaged a neighboring building  and raised concerns about years of dust and disruption.

Adultery as Crime: An antiquated but seldom-enforced state law categorizes adultery as a crime, and past efforts to repeal it have gone nowhere . But that seems poised to change.

Limiting Social Media’s Hold: New York’s governor and attorney general joined forces to pass a law  trying to restrict social media companies’ ability to use algorithms to shape content for children. Big Tech is putting up a battle with a high-stakes lobbying effort.

Targeting Trans Athletes: A proposed ban on transgender women playing on women’s sports teams  has turned a Long Island county into the latest battleground for conservatives who have put cultural issues at the center of a nationwide political strategy.

Illegal Donations: A Chinese business titan pleaded guilty to federal charges that he made more than $10,000 in straw donor contributions to political candidates  — including, a person familiar with the case said, to a New York congressman and Mayor Eric Adams.
