Malnati wins Valspar to earn Masters trip. Nelly Korda returns to No. 1 with another win

PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Peter Malnati got a great break and followed that with an even better shot Sunday, a 5-iron to 6 feet for birdie on the 17th hole that carried him to a 4-under 67 and a two-shot win at the Valspar Championship on Sunday and earn his first trip to the Masters.

Malnati tapped in for par on the final hole for only his second PGA Tour victory. He won by two over Cameron Young, who made it easier on him by taking bogey on the final hole for a 68. Young now has seven runner-up finishes without a win.

Malnati’s approach on the 16th went long and left into gnarly rough some 50 feet from the pin, leaving him a tough chip to try to save par and stay tied. But his foot was on a sprinkler head, which entitled him to a free drop. With the extra club length, he was able to drop it on the fringe and use putter, which he sent down to short range for par.

On the par-3 17th into wind, Malnati hit a laser to 6 feet for birdie. Up ahead, Young hit his drive well left, got it on the green and three-putted from 50 feet for bogey.

Malnati goes to the Masters for the first time and gets a two-year exemption. He also is assured of getting into the remaining four $20 million signature events without any help.

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. — Nelly Korda made bogey on her final two holes to fall into a playoff and atoned for it quickly, making a 12-foot birdie putt to beat Ryann O’Toole in the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship to return to No. 1 in the world.

Korda, who closed with a 2-under 69, won for the second time this year, both of them involving surprising collapses and amazing revivals.

Korda was playing for the first time since the end of January, when she lost four shots over three holes before an eagle-birdie finish to win. She seized control Sunday with an 18-foot eagle on the par-5 14th.

O’Toole holed a 20-foot par putt on the 18th for a 66, and that looked to be good only for second place until Korda’s bogey-bogey finish. They finished at 9-under 275, and the playoff ended quickly.

Korda, who now has 10 LPGA titles, replaces Lilia Vu at the top of the women’s world ranking.

EUROPEAN TOUR

SINGAPORE — Jesper Svensson of Sweden closed with a 9-under 63 and beat Kiradech Aphibarnrat on the third playoff hole to win the Porsche Singapore Classic for his first European tour title.

Svensson tapped in for par at the par-5 18th on the third extra hole. Aphibarnrat could only make bogey after his third shot rolled over the green and down the slope at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

Svensson matched the course record and was one shot better than his Thai opponent. Both finished on 17-under 271 to force a playoff. Both players made birdies on the first playoff hole and the matched pars on the second before the decisive third trip up the 18th.

Overnight leader David Micheluzzi finished in a share of seventh place after a final-round 73 left him five shots behind. Shane Lowry had a 72, leaving the former British Open champion nine shots off the lead.

PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Padraig Harrington won the Hoag Classic at windy Newport Beach Country Club for his seventh PGA Tour Champions victory, rebounding from a double bogey with birdies on the final two holes.

After driving left into trouble and dropping two strokes on the par-4 16th, Harrington made a downhill 15-footer on the par-3 17th and got an 8-footer to fall on the par-5 18th for a one-stroke victory over Thongchai Jaidee.

Harrington closed with a 2-under 69 to finish at 14-under 199. The 52-year-old Irishman will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in June. He won British Open in 2007 and 2008 and the PGA Championship in 2008.

Jaidee, from Thailand, also had a 69, parring the 18th after leaving his approach short and pitching through the green.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, the Spaniard playing alongside Harrington and Jaidee in the final group, bogeyed the 17th in a 68 that left him two strokes back.

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersent closed with a 1-under 71 and held on for a two-shot victory in the Kokhata Challenge in India on the Challenge Tour. ... Clay Feagler closed with a 1-under 71 and defeated Davis Shore on the fourth playoff hole to win the Bupa Championship in the PGA Tour Americas season-opener in Mexico. ... Heinrich Bruiners closed with an 8-under 64 and won the Stella Artois Players Championship by one shot, his first Sunshine Tour victory since 2013. ... Reika Usui won the 36-hole AXA Ladies Golf Tournament with a 6-under 66 for a one-shot victory over Miyuu Yamashita.

Essential Japan

I recently booked the 7day Essential tour to Japan. Want to commend 3 tour guides that accompanied my group in those 7 days. First guide MINJI Japanese born but spoke perfect spanish ,english and of course Japenese. She was with us the inicial 6days of the tour. What a fun,knowledgeable, patient,fun,entertaining guide she was. To make our long bus rides less boring,she had us learn to write our name in Japanese , another we had a japanese vocabulary lesson, and last we got to make an origami swan. She was AWESOME. Next David I believe he is from Spain he was with us 1day. Full of energy,humor and music. Last KIKO from Argentina sweet and very patient and helpful. The tour itself was well planned. Loved all the hotels we stayed at. Breakfast was good. All hotels were conviently located across from the train stations except in Osaka. Tours were great wish we had a little more time..but it was really crowded with tourist at most of the places we visited...so understandable. Favorite places for me Mt Fuji,Asakusa, Inari Shrines,Bamboo Forest, Nara. Again it was great thanks Europamundo y TourRadar

Enchanted Landscapes

My family & I just got back from taking the Enchanted Landscapes tour. We had a Fantastic trip! The tours are guided by Eurpamundo. On the first day we were so confused because we had no idea which guide we were supposed to go with as there were Multiple Eurpamundo tours at the same hotel. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE PAPERS POSTED BY EURPAMUNDO OR ASK THE RECEPTION WHERE THEY ARE POSTED TO SEE WHERE WHAT TIME YOUR LEAVING each day!!! Ask all the tour guides if you are on their lists because they do not tell you…..You have to check if you’re on their list!!! After the first day you will get the hang of it!!! We got to see and do so much for 2 weeks all over Europe! Is the tour fast moving yes…..but it has to be so you can see all the places included in the tour. All of the tour guides we had were great but our favorite was Judy. Such a sweet and patient lady☺️. We really enjoyed our trip and all the hotels were very nice. My daughter used Uber eats a few times to get food as we were sometimes not close to restaurants….which was ok!! We would definitely use Toyr Radar again. You can beat the prices

Amsterdam and Paris

It was a good tour. The only problem was no air conditioning in the hotel in France. We couldn’t fall asleep at night because it was too hot in the room. Three of us in the room with a small Fan. That did not help at all.

Paris and London

Was great. The tourist guides were amazing.

Beloved Europe

The tour was fun and interesting even though with heavy rain in Prague. Our tour guide Guillermo/William was awesome, very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Our tour bus driver Parvel was a very good driver, very kind and helpful with our luggage. The hotels are also very nice, clean and the staff are very accommodating.I really enjoyed this tour. I highly recommend this tour and highly recommend Europamundo and Tour Radar for your future tours.

Korea Express

The tour was well planned and executed. The hotel rooms were a lower level than we have become accustomed on other tours of this nature. The meals at lunch and breakfast were excellent. Although the tour director knew the history and aspects of the places we experienced, we were afforded very little time exploring and learning. The few times we were released to do this were very welcome. The sights and choices of events were excellent.

South of Spain with Lisbon

The tour was wonderful! The stops were well chosen and was perfect for me as a first-timer in Spain and Portugal. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable. The hotel accommodations were a hit and miss though depending on where we stopped. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend it, especially for anyone looking to get a taste of Southern Spain and Portugal.

England, Scotland and Ireland end Dublin

I feel the guides are not wanting to speak to us in English. They would go on and on in Spanish laughing and then 3 or 4 words in English. I was unable to understand Mary our first guide at all. The trip itself was wonderful and beautiful. Loved the bus driver in Ireland he was a better tour guide for me.

Reviews of Europamundo Tours

The trip was enjoyable with friendly tour guides. The structure at times did feel slightly rushed, but I appreciated how one half of the day is dedicated to the history and tour of the cities with the other half being optional walks or wandering and shopping. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the tour in Italy and I do recommend it.

This was a really good Tour. It was thorough and we saw some amazing things! Pretty well-paced. Hotels were very nice! As an English speaker it was a bit difficult as I was placed on a tri-lingual tour! Primarily Spanish and Portuguese. Hard to understand at times. Guides were not consistent. We had 3 different guides. All on all though very happy with the trip!

Trip was as expected. Tour guides were great. Transportation and transfers were spot on. Highly recommend.

The PGA Tour heads to the Lone Star State this week for the 2024 Texas Children's Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston. The 2024 Texas Children's Houston Open field won't be as strong as other weeks, but it will feature some star power. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler headlines the field and enters as the 14-5 betting favorite in the latest 2024 Texas Children's Houston Open odds. He is followed by Wyndham Clark (14-1), Tony Finau (18-1), Will Zalatoris (18-1), Sahith Theegala (20-1), Jason Day (28-1), and Si Woo Kim (35-1). The total 2024 Texas Children's Houston Open purse is $9.1 million, with the winner's share coming in at $1.638 million. 

As the highest ranked player in the field, and the heavy betting favorite, Scheffler will likely be a popular one and done pick for this week for the Houston Open. Should you back Scheffler? McClure has been on fire with his One and Done picks in 2024. At The American Express he backed Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. At the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place. Finally, at the Arnold Palmer Invitation, another signature event, McClure recommended using Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The Result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.

His hot steak continued at the Players Championship, where McClure again recommended using Scheffler (if was still available) and Xander Schauffele. Both players were in contention until the end, with Scheffler coming out with the win and Schauffele finishing in second place. Then, at last week's Valspar Championship, McClure recommended using Cameron Young, who finished in second place, in OAD pools.
