During the ride, our tutor explained to us what a field trip was and why it was conducted. We went to a zoological park. It was a different experience from classroom learning. We students grasped the concept much faster. The method of learning through experience was different. We could learn things outside textbooks.

This is done so that students can look into a particular topic from all possible perspectives enabling them to learn everything. It has also been proved that field trips are an excellent way for incorporating knowledge into young minds. This also helps students to learn and understand topics on their own without further explanations.

They help indirect learning and help students in finding things by themselves which is better than spoon-feeding information. This experience helps students to retain in their memories what they have learnt for a much longer period. 

Field Trip To A Butterfly Garden

The students were so excited. By the end, students started recognising the different varieties of butterflies. They learnt all they could about Butterflies.

They were also taught the importance of trees in nature. They pledged that they would not hurt mother nature and will prevent unnecessary cutting of trees. Thus, the field trip was successful.

Field Trip To A Cow Farm

One could see the huge machines used for milking the cows. The farm had a large number of workers. There was a veterinarian for weekly checkups.

There were employees cleaning the farms. There were separate employees for each pair of cows. Cows at this farm were given high-protein foods. The sheds were cleaned regularly to control diseases that might affect the cows. One could see the care given to the cows by looking at them. After the milking process, they are sent to a nearby plant for pasteurization and packaging.

There are special sheds for pregnant cows so as to give them special care. The calves are very well taken care of. The students could understand the importance of cleanliness and regular checkups. This experience made the students realise something new and made them learn new things.

Whether you’re a student or a professional, a visit report helps you document the procedures and processes at an industrial or corporate location. These reports are fairly straightforward. Describe the site first and explain what you did while you were there. If required, reflect on what you learned during your visit. No additional research or information is needed.

Things You Should Know

  • Check the report requirements before writing down general information about the visit. Explain the site’s purpose, operations, and what happened during the visit.
  • Identify the site’s strengths and weaknesses. Add recommendations for improvement and describe what you learned there if you’re a student.
  • Give your report a title page, write clearly and objectively, and include relevant pictures in the report. Proofread it carefully before submitting it.

Describing the Site

Step 1 Look over the requirements of your visit report.

  • Reports are usually only 2-3 pages long, but in some cases, these reports may be much longer.
  • In some cases, you may be asked to give recommendations or opinions about the site. In other cases, you will be asked only to describe the site.
  • Ask your boss or instructor for models of other visit reports. If you can't get a model, look up samples online.

Step 2 Start the paper with general information about the visit.

  • If you visited a factory, explain what it is producing and what equipment it uses.
  • If you visited a construction site, describe what is being constructed and how far along the construction is. You should also describe the terrain of the site and the layout.
  • If you’re visiting a business, describe what the business does. State which department or part of the business you visited.
  • If you’re visiting a school, identify which grades they teach. Note how many students attend the school. Name the teachers whose classes you observed.

Step 4 Explain what happened during the visit in chronological order.

  • Who did you talk to? What did they tell you?
  • What did you see at the site?
  • What events took place? Did you attend a seminar, Q&A session, or interview?
  • Did you see any demonstrations of equipment or techniques?

Step 5 Summarize the operations at the site.

  • For example, at a car factory, describe whether the cars are made by robots or humans. Describe each step of the assembly line.
  • If you're visiting a business, talk about different departments within the business. Describe their corporate structure and identify what programs they use to conduct their business.

Reflecting on Your Visit

Step 1 Describe what you learned at the site if you’re a student.

  • Is there something you didn’t realize before that you learned while at the site?
  • Who at the site provided helpful information?
  • What was your favorite part of the visit and why?

Step 2 Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the site.

  • For example, you might state that the factory uses the latest technology but point out that employees need more training to work with the new equipment.
  • If there was anything important left out of the visit, state what it was. For example, maybe you were hoping to see the main factory floor or to talk to the manager.

Step 3 Provide recommendations for improvement if required.

  • Tailor your recommendations to the organization or institution that owns the site. What is practical and reasonable for them to do to improve their site?
  • Be specific. Don’t just say they need to improve infrastructure. State what type of equipment they need or give advice on how to improve employee morale.

Formatting Your Report

Step 1 Add a title page to the beginning of your report.

  • If you are following a certain style guideline, like APA or Chicago style, make sure to format the title page according to the rules of the handbook.

Step 2 Write in clear and objective language.

  • Don’t just say “the visit was interesting” or “I was bored.” Be specific when describing what you learned or saw.

Step 3 Include any relevant pictures if desired.

The school trip diary

A good school trip report should always include some diary-style entries. If it was a day trip, write up what your students did in the morning and afternoon. If you enjoyed a longer visit, you can separate out the activities from each day. 

However, rather than simply writing down the itinerary, make sure you explain how students felt, and what they learned. Adding little details like what the weather was like, and all the sights and sounds you noticed, can really help to bring your experience to life.

You might focus on an interesting anecdote from your trip or discuss particular features that made an impression on you. Use these tidbits to develop your thesis. For example, you might create a three-point thesis, such as "The wetlands in Florida have vulnerable ecosystems, experience climate changes and endure seasonal flooding." If your teacher wants a technical field trip report, start with an abstract -- a brief summary paragraph -- that clearly explains where you went and what you learned during the field trip. Use research or literature to support your statements in your field trip report. For example, if you visited a local arboretum, you might use information from display placards to describe your favorite types of foliage and their seasonal life cycles.

Provide Facility Details

Discuss the field trip location by describing the facilities and explaining what you saw or experienced. For example, if you visited an astronomy observatory, discuss viewing areas and the telescopes you used. If you were using inside telescopes, describe the height of the domed ceilings, the different types of lighting and the approximate distance to the stars or planets. By providing extensive details, you show your teacher that you were paying close attention to the instructor, or in the observatory example, to the astronomer's explanations. You might also discuss any handouts or educational materials you received during the field trip.

Discuss Surprising Findings

Explain in your field trip report any new information or details that took you by surprise and include statistical data to support your findings. This type of data shows that you learned something during the field trip. For example, if you visited an underground cave, you might discuss a particular type of bat or an unusual plant that grows in the cave. Use outside research or information from the tour guide to support your data, and cite your references clearly, so your teacher knows where you got the information. When possible, use academic journals or magazines to support details in your observation report of the field visit.

End with Compelling Conclusion

Conclude your field trip report with a summary of your overall experience, including reasons why others might want to visit the location. You might include a brief summary of a personal discussion you had with the tour guide or field trip facilitator or cite a distinguishable fact from your research. If you participated in any hands-on activities or your class was allowed to see behind the scenes, you might end your paper by discussing those highlights. For example, if you visited a science center, you might discuss fossils you examined, electricity experiments you participated in, or hands-on experiments with wind tunnels that allowed you to examine weather patterns.

Site visit reports

Key stages of conducting a site visit and reporting your observations and findings.

When you visit a site, company, institution, plant or other location outside the university to observe how your field of study operates in practice, you are often required to write about what you saw. Whether you have to write a standalone report or record your observations for a larger piece of assessment, following the stages below will help you get the most out of your site visit.

Before your visit

Your visit might be the only chance you have to collect information about the site that is not available from other sources.

To prepare for your site visit:

  • Review your subject material in the LMS and your notes, and brainstorm what you already know about the site.
  • Do some preliminary research about the site in relevant library databases and online, so you know what information is already available in published sources.
  • Make a list of the information you think you need to collect at the site.
  • Prepare questions to ask staff at the site, if they will be available.

Collate the materials you will need to refer to at the site, e.g. your task brief, list of information to collect and questions, in a format you can access easily while on the move. Ensure that you have a reliable way to take notes, and that your phone has plenty of charge for taking photos.

A notebook or document with prepared headings makes it easy to record the information you need. You should also make sure you:

  • Complete any forms or health and safety requirements for your subject.
  • Know how to get to the site, and who to contact if you are delayed.
  • Wear clothing that is appropriate to the site conditions and the weather.

During your visit

To maximise the information you gather:

  • Take notes of any impressions or observations you have, of all aspects of the visit, under subheadings. Extra notes can help you recall important details you may not have realised were relevant at the time.
  • Record voice messages or memos of insights as they happen to avoid having to rely on your memory.
  • Take photos from different perspectives. If you need to include images in your assessment, you will be glad you have a range to choose from. You may not have a chance to return to the site to take more photos if you missed something important on the day.
  • Ask questions when you have the opportunity. If you meet any staff at the site, they are likely to expect you to ask questions and are usually happy to answer.

Gathering as much information as possible during the site visit will give you a wider range of material to draw from when you are preparing your report or assessment, and you will be able to produce a more accurate and polished piece of work.

Sections of a site visit report

Site visit reports may vary from subject to subject, so you should always check the information you’ve been given in your assessment brief or in other subject material. If your site visit report contains the following features, these explanations may help you gain a sense of the purpose of various sections:

Include the title of the visit or project, name of the site, the date of the site visit, and your name and student number. You may also need to include your tutor’s name, your tutorial group, or your team members for group assignments.

An executive summary is a condensed version of the whole report. It typically contains a few sentences on the background and location of the site, the purpose of the report, a statement about what was observed, and a few sentences that offer a conclusion or recommendations.

The introduction of the report should set the context for the level of observation conducted on the site visit. Include the importance of what is being observed and what you can learn from those observations. This might be, for example, to address a problem or provide a solution in another location.

This section is highly dependent on your context. It may involve explaining procedures and processes, such as chemical processes, construction, or commercial operations of a plant, or how certain features of the site are arranged.

In the final section, you should sum up the key findings from the site visit and comment on the implications of these findings, and you may also give recommendations if that is appropriate to the task.  If you are required to reflect on your experience, try and make connections between what you have observed at the site and what you have learned in your subject.

Provide references to literature and published sources if you are required to integrate these into your site visit report.

Write up your findings as soon as possible after your site visit. The sooner you write your report, the more you’ll remember.

Reflection / Observation

If you are asked to write a reflection of your visit, try to:

  • Make links between theory and practice, i.e. what you’ve been doing in your subject, what you’ve read, any previous professional experience you have in the field and the practices you observed at the site.
  • Demonstrate in your reflection that you understood the most important features of the site.
  • Evaluate and discuss the relative strengths and weaknesses of the processes and procedures you observed (e.g. technology, efficiency).

A site visit is far more than an excursion or trip. It is an excellent opportunity to gain insights into how your area of study operates in practice, and if you adequately prepare to collect extensive information during your visit, you will be able to produce a higher quality report or assessment as well.

Smallholders become increasingly significant for global agricultural value chains. The agriculture sector is a source of livelihood worldwide. In rural areas of Malaysia, there are several challenges has been identified by applying smallholder activities. The article focuses on an adaptation of smallholder in the rural area towards current challenges of practising it locally, with particular reference to Kampung Merchong that located in Pekan District, Pahang State, Malaysia. Based on in-depth interview with local smallholder farmers and series site visit for field observation, there are at least three challenges has been highlighted occurred in study area included (1) labor shortages due to outmigration, (2) lack of skills, professional advice, training and finance; and (3) the low quality of soil and agricultural land. Thus, this review will notify state governments, related agencies and the private sector to draw attention to this neglected and vulnerable rural smallholder activities. Such situation may affect the Pekan District as a major rice producer in Pahang in future due to the unsustain smallholder economy activities.

–The paper is an empirical study examining the tangible and intangible culture of rural tourism with a focus on rural transformation from daily local into commercial behaviour due to presence of tourism activities. It explores the process of commercialization of tangible and intangible culture. The case studies of Brayut and Pentingsari rural tourism village are studied through observation and interviews of physical and non physical transformation with community members and the rural tourism manager. Both villages are the unique growing tourist village in Yogyakarta, but Brayut has a potential asset of maintained condition traditional Javanese house in whereas Pentingsari has an attractive natural of green village with the local cultural heritage. The qualitative empirical research study was applied to explore the transformation of cultural meaning by the locals before and after commercialization process. Firstly, the study reviewed the original tangible and intangible culture before transformation. Secondly, changes in cultural functions and meaning are analyzed in the current situation caused by its transforming into commercial activities. By examining the comparison of tangible and intangible culture in the commercializing process is built to understand the relationships between the two and the quality of its transformation.

There are numerous attractions and tourism objects available in Bali. The vast choices available in Bali make this island a strong magnet for tourists to come. New and creative ideas have been proposed to attract different segments of tourists to come to Bali. Mepantigan is a new attraction available in Bali in the form of games played in the muddy rice field which includes various cultural activities based from the Balinese tradition. The activities are suitable for all ages therefore every member of the family can participate. Regardless of how this activity benefits the locals and participants in various ways, there is a concern whether this is just another form of commodification of Balinese culture tailored for tourism or not, thus this research is conducted to answer that concern. This is a qualitative research based on the platform of sustainable tourism. To obtain data for this research, observation and deep interview are used. The informants for the interview are the operators and also the participants of Mepantigan. This research is still ongoing which later will answer the hypotheses of this research, which are Mepantigan is able to introduce values of the Balinese tradition; it is a sustainable tourism family package, and participants are satisfied of the package. The role of tourism to the economy of Bali and Indonesia can be seen from the increase in tourist arrivals. The study results showed that if tourism is represented by the trade, hotels and restaurants sector, tourism contribution to the economy of Bali is 27.82% in 2010 to be 31.35% in 2014. If tourism represented by the tertiary sector (services sector), contribution of tourism to the economy is 65.28% in 2010 to be 68.28% in 2014. Tourism is represented trade, hotels and restaurants sector, the number of labor who work in tourism is 571,274 people (26.24%) in 2010 to be 628,585 people (27.64%) in 2014. If tourism is represented the tertiary sector, the number labor who work in the tourism is 1,046,530 people (48.96%) in 2010 to be 1,178,201 people (51.81%) in 2014.

Florida's Medicaid call center's wait times, disconnection rates are hindering health care access, study warns

MIAMI — The Medicaid call center in Florida is experiencing long wait times and high rates of disconnection that could be preventing qualifying families from renewing or accessing Medicaid coverage, according to a report by UnidosUS , a national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization.

Around 1 million people, 17% of Floridians enrolled, have lost coverage since April, which is when the state started redetermining Medicaid eligibility for the first time since 2020. During the pandemic, Congress had put in place provisions barring states from ending Medicaid coverage regardless of whether or not people qualified, but that expired last year.

Florida's drop in Medicaid enrollment is the second largest in the country after Texas’, according to the UnidosUS study.

8 in 10 calls automatically disconnected

Issues with the call center are at the heart of the problem, said UnidosUS’ Florida political director, Jared Nordlund. One way the state decides whether people are no longer eligible for Medicaid, he said, is if they don’t respond to correspondence mailed to them. Many times, people have questions about the mailer they've received and aren't sure what they need to do to avoid being dropped. Yet, when they try to reach out to the state's Medicaid call center, it’s nearly impossible to get through to a real person.

The report found that 8 in 10 calls to Florida's Medicaid call center were automatically disconnected from the phone system. When people managed to get through, there were long delays to reach live receptionists.

“For Florida families who rely on hourly wages to make ends meet, spending hours just to connect is a costly proposition,” Nordlund said. “We have to meet people where they are, and right now they are frustrated and scared. The state has the money to fix the call center problem; they’re just choosing to ignore it.”

For English speakers, the average wait time was 66 minutes, almost double what it was in July. And for those who speak Spanish, the wait time was 47 minutes, which went down from the hour and 35 minutes people were waiting in July.

The Florida Department of Children and Families, which administers the program, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Medicaid, which provides health insurance for lower-income people, is mostly administered by states, though the majority of the funding comes from the federal government.

According to the study, the long wait times could be contributing to loss in Medicaid coverage.

A significant proportion of the Medicaid population "needs access to real, live people who can help them with the redetermination process, which is why the continued failures of the state’s call center only compound problems instead of solving them," Nordlund said. "In addition to the digital divide that keeps many from being able to access the process online, there is often a linguistic barrier or a need for guidance with the forms.”

Two consumer advocacy groups sued in a Florida federal court last summer seeking to stop the state from terminating residents’ coverage. The Florida Health Justice Project and the National Health Law Program filed the suit on behalf of three residents arguing that the notices are confusing and don’t explain well why a person is being dropped.

As many Floridians' Medicaid coverage has been terminated, the number of people enrolled in the Affordable Care Act has spiked. Florida leads the country in ACA enrollment, with 4.2 million residents signing up during the recent open enrollment period.

The decrease in Medicaid coverage isn't the only reason for the rise in ACA sign-ups, though. Enhanced subsidies offered during the pandemic and extended through 2025 as part of the Inflation Reduction Act have made it less costly to sign up for health plans.

The UnidosUS report is a follow-up to one the organization released in August , which found Spanish speakers had to wait nearly four times longer than English-language callers.

SANTA CLARA — Defensive end Chase Young’s audition with the 49ers started hot four months ago, as he and Nick Bosa shared a fumble-forcing sack in a victory in Jacksonville.

Two days into free agency, Young’s market doesn’t seem too hot, and certainly not with the 49ers.

Young is slated to make visits to the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints and the Tennessee Titans once the league year allows for it Wednesday, the NFL Network reported.

Breaking free from the 49ers would not be a surprise, considering:

— They’ve already agreed to two-year contracts with Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos.

— Young produced 3 1/2 sacks in 12 games once the 49ers acquired him in October from the Washington Commanders, in exchange for a third-round draft pick (No. 100 overall).

— Young’s lack of hustle on a Detroit Lions touchdown run in the NFC Championship Game renewed concerns over his work ethic.

— As much as Bosa said after the season that he hoped Young would return, Bosa does not make personnel calls, even if he’s the NFL’s highest-paid defender.

Young’s free agency visits presumably will inform suitors on how he’s recovered from a 2021 knee injury that sidetracked his career. He won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after being drafted No. 2. He missed nearly 1 1/2 seasons, and after Washington declined his fifth-year option last April, Young started out last season with five sacks in seven games.

Young did not start for the 49ers until the playoffs, after Clelin Ferrell sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 18; Ferrell agreed Tuesday to a one-year contract with the Commanders, The Athletic reported. Defensive end Randy Gregory is also a free agent, as are defensive tackles Sebastian Joseph-Day and Kevin Givens.

Defensive ends projected on the 49ers’ roster currently are Bosa, Floyd, Gross-Matos, Drake Jackson, Robert Beal Jr., Earnest Brown IV and Raymond Johnson III.

Among the 49ers’ moves they’re expected to announce Wednesday is a two-year extension with special-teams ace George Odum, as reported by NFL Network.
