One of the most abiding memories of cruising in Northern Europe is entering picturesque Cork harbour. The deepwater of the Port of Cork is the natural entry point to many of Ireland’s principal visitor attractions and arriving by cruise liner is a truly sublime experience.

Things to do for families, friends and couples in Cork across the Easter Break

W ith the Easter break coming up families across Cork will be looking for ways to entertain the smallies for the next two weeks while couples and friend groups will be looking for something to do over the long weekend.

Thankfully here in the Rebel County there are plenty of great places to go and events to attend. So from exciting days at the races to tranquil walks through beautiful landscapes here are a few ideas for how to spend your Easter break.

Cork Harbour Cruises

Fancy a spot of sailing? Cork Harbour Cruises are up and running again for the season with harbour tours in Cork City.

This family-friendly ferry ride is 2 hours of scenic guided tour along the lovely Lee to Cork Harbour. Depart from the Port of Cork and cruise past Blackrock Castle and on through the lower harbour, passing Fota Island and others along the way down to Cobh.

This is the perfect combination of ships and scenery, pirates, spies and local heroes. Keep your eyes peeled for Sammy and Susie our resident seals, colourful yachts, fortifications, cultural landmarks and breathtaking views.

While some cruise sessions are already full, there are still spots free to take a trip over the break

Adult return trip ticket €28, Family (2 adults + 2 Children) €62, Student (13 – 17yrs) / OAP €23, Child €12.50 (3-13yrs).

The Easter Trail at Nano Nagle Place

Leeside's Nano Nagle Place is holding a special Easter event on Friday, March 29. Families can enjoy discounted entry into the museum. The doors will be open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and guests will receive a complimentary Easter Trail booklet upon arrival.

The Donkey Sanctuary

The Donkey Sanctuary is nestled in the beautiful rolling countryside outside the tranquil village of Liscarroll. Visitors are welcome to come and meet over 130 donkeys and mules on the Open Farm all year round.

When you are here, take the opportunity to explore the scenic walkways or enjoy a picnic. Dogs are also very welcome to join you on your visit, although ensure they are kept on a lead at all times.

The Sanctuary is open this weekend between 9.30 am - 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm - 4.00 pm. FREE Admission and FREE parking but donations to the charity are welcome. A notice on the organisation's website notes that the farm will be closed on Sunday, March 24 so it'd be wise to keep that in mind while planning your break.

Leahy's Open Farm

There's loads to see and do at Leahy's Farm with a digger park, maze, barrel train and pedal go-karts representing just a few of the fun activities the kids can get involved in. Located just outside Midleton town, Leahy's has loads of gorgeous animals for you to pet including rabbits, goats and an adorable family of Alpacas from the Andes.

Over the Easter break, there are special activities for the smallies to enjoy, including an Easter Egg Hunt and trailer ride through the forest and Make-you-own Easter Lollipops. There will also be Egg & Spoon races for Mammy and Daddy as well as an opportunity to win a free second trip to the farm.

You can find more information on the Leahy's Farm events here .

Cork Racecourse

The three-day Racing Home For Easter festival kicks off on Saturday, March 30 at Cork Racecourse in Mallow. With top-notch hospitality, live music and plenty of entertainment for the smallies, it makes for a great family day out if you're looking for a bit of excitement.

Children aged 14 and under are eligible to attend this and every single race day FREE of charge with a full paying adult and tickets for adults start at €15 per person when booked online.

The Holi Festival in Fitzgerald's Park

If you're looking for a splash of colour (literally) over the Easter break you can't go wrong with the inaugural Holi festival at Fitzgerald's Park this weekend. Set up by members of Cork's thriving Indian community, the event will be filled with colour, music, dance and some exciting live performances.

Entry is free and the event kicks off at 11:30 on Sunday, March 24. If you're looking to participate in the festival of colours, wearing white is recommended and you'll be able to buy all the colours on the day.

Annes Grove Gardens

Historic Annes Grove House and Gardens in Castletownroche is set to reopen to the public on March 23 following another round of restoration work to the verdant gem of North Cork.

After several years of restoration work in the house and the gardens and with rare rhododendrons, magnolia and cherry trees bursting into full bloom, the gardens are ready to welcome and charm visitors from Ireland and abroad again for the 2024 season. Pop the wellies on the smallies and let them explore this fab spot. Dogs on leads are more than welcome to explore too!

The Merries in Crosshaven

How about this for some old-school fun - just like our parents and grandparents enjoyed in simpler times? Pipers Funfair in Crosser is open each weekend from 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday with bumper cars, ring-toss, waltzers, kiddies' planes and more.

It's right in the centre of Crosshaven and you have ice cream and chips (nearby Chish N Fips do great takeaway) and maybe a paddle on Myrtleville Beach (weather allowing) to make it the classic Cork day out.

Funderland's famous pop-up amusement park is here in Cork at its new site down by the marina. The funfair moved to Tedcastles Yard after construction began on a massive development at the old Creamfields location near the Tramore Road.

Cork has been home to Funderland during the Easter school holidays since 1995 and has become one of the most eagerly anticipated entertainment events at Easter in Cork.

One of, if not the largest, travelling amusement park events in Europe - Funderland has rollercoasters and rides for the daredevils and attractions and activities for the little ones. Funderland opens from 12 pm to 10 pm with an admission of €2 per person or €5 for a family of four, tickets are available at the entrance or online.

The Moscow metro now has a full 4G coverage

  • On 19 Oct 2018

The Tele2 mobile network company became the first to build an infrastructure for 100% stations of the Moscow's metro. The high-quality 4G internet is now available on all 259 stations of the Moscow's metro, Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and monorail.

The operator has secured a 100% 4G indoor-coverage internet an all stations of the metropolitan metro, including the passageways, pavilions, and stairways. The investments into the project have exceeded 800 million rubles.

The Moscow underground is a specific infrastructure object, which has its own particularities. All works on designing, installation, and adjustment of the hardware should have been conducted exceptionally during night hours when the metro is closed for entry. A sufficient number of stations have a status of cultural heritage, thus, the network development has required additional approvement from the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow.

The network coverage within the metro system opens new horizons for the analysis of the "big data". Tele2 Network has analyzed the users' activity during the summer months and has indicated the busiest metro lines, which were: Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Zamoskvoretskaya and Kaluga-Riga lines. During the summer months, on the stations of Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya lines the subscribers have downloaded 125 TByte of internet-traffic, have made over 2 million calls with the total duration of 27 thousand hours, which equals to 3 years.
