The second year of the McGraw/Hill Soul2Soul tour grossed more than $52 million, taking the two-summer total for the husband-and-wife co-headliners to more than $141 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. That’s enough to make it the top-grossing country tour ever. McGraw/Hill drew 1,673,667 fans to 117 shows. The tour wrapped Aug. 10-11 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., with $2.5 million gross. Despite the record-breaking tour, both Hill and McGraw were conspicuously absent from the top-tier awards when last week’s CMA Awards nominations were announced. Soul2Soul II now tops Garth Brooks’ 1996-98 tour, which grossed more than $105 million. Until now, the Brooks trek had been country’s only $100 million run. Rod Essig and John Huie in Creative Artists Agency’s Nashville office were the agents for the Soul2Soul tour, and Live Nation was the national promoter in 2007. In 2006, the tour worked with Live Nation, AEG Live and such independents as Jam Productions, Gary Marx, Outback Concerts, Fantasma Productions, Another Planet, Glenn Smith, Lowell MacGregor and Beaver Productions. The previous two-year gross record had been Shania Twain in 2003-2004 at about $90 million. Kenny Chesney has grossed about $300 million during the past six years, but each year the set is struck and the next year has its own identity, title and production, making each run a separate, individual “tour.” Like Twain, the McGraw/Hill trek utilized the same extravagant production, title and theme for its entire run, making it one “tour,” per se. Soul2Soul II is the most any country tour has ever grossed in a two-year period. Despite the big box-office country is seeing these days, Brooks still holds the attendance record for a multi-year run at about 5.5 million. “Every artist has a different mission; Garth wanted attendance,” says McGraw manager Scott Siman of Front Line Management. “Our artists wanted to deliver the greatest possible show to the country fans, and they put the money into the production as never before seen in country music, rivaling the biggest rock productions of our time.” McGraw and Hill previously toured as Soul2Soul in 2000, taking in about $50 million. There are currently no plans for the artists to tour again as co-headliners.

It has been a decade since country music superstars and real life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have teamed up for a tour. The Grammy award-winning duo decided to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their successful 2006-2007 Soul2Soul II Tour by bringing it back in 2017 for a 65-city global jaunt, which kicked off in New Orleans back in April.

The Soul2Soul II tour remains the highest grossing multi-year country music tour of all time, an honor previously held by genre icon Garth Brooks. It’s easy to see why it’s so wildly popular. Not only is it just a massive production, there are now decades of hits that both McGraw and Hill can pull from and they tapped that well hard during their first of two shows at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Friday night. The tour also comes to Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario on Saturday, July 22 and Valley View Casino Center in San Diego on Sunday, July 23.

Rachel Platten opens for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul...

On this particular outing, McGraw and Hill have commissioned a robust roster of rotating opening talent including Andra Day, Brent Cobb, Eric Paslay, Devin Dawson, Rachel Platten and more. For the stop in L.A., Platten took the stage and brought a tremendous amount of energy with her set that included her hits “Stand by You” and “Fight Song.”

Though there was a long break in between the end of her set and the start of the main attraction, there was a palpable amount of excitement coming from the audience. Sure, McGraw had rolled through town a few times over the past decade, including a memorable stop at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in 2014. He had to cancel his show at the now demolished amphitheater in 2015, however, after his doctors placed him on vocal rest.

For Hill, this round of Soul2Soul marks the first time she’s toured since 2007 and she brought her A game during moments in the solo spotlight and as she teamed up with McGraw for a slew of duets. Sure, she flubbed on the lyrics during “This Kiss,” but she laughed at herself and moved right along, recovering well with a moodier, sultry version of “Breathe,” during which she let her vocals soar.

She strapped on an electric guitar over her gorgeous blue dress – cut perfectly to show off her toned legs – for a rockin’ rendition of “Wild One” and had everyone signing her famous countrified cover of “Piece of My Heart.”

McGraw pleased the crowd with his playful “Real Good Man” and sing-a-long anthem, “One of Those Nights.” He even had the entire backing band join him at the end of the stage for a quick clap-and-sing version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Hungry Heart.”  He led the eager audience through the chorus of “Humble and Kind,” allowing their voices to fill the arena at the end. “You’ll never know how good that feels,” he said with a smile. The fans also did the heavy lifting on the chorus for McGraw’s massive hit, “Live Like You Were Dying.”

Though they were both solid solo, the evening was better when McGraw and Hill worked together. They opened the set with a cover of Aretha Franklin and George Michael’s 1986 duet, “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)” and danced with each other through McGraw’s “Felt Good on My Lips.” Hill stayed on stage for McGraw’s “I Like It, I Love It” and he strapped on a guitar and ran around stage during Hill’s “The Way You Love Me.”

There’s a connection and tenderness between them that just can’t be faked, which is why a duet such as “Like We Never Loved At All” is so incredibly heartbreaking not only to hear, but to watch live on stage. You can’t imagine a couple like this, who have been married now for more than 20 years, experiencing that amount of heartache.  It’s a painfully beautiful song that the pair started and finished by holding hands.

The duo also played some new music, including their latest single, “Speak to a Girl” and “Break First,” which ended with the two doing a stare down, which McGraw lost.  They rounded out the evening by coming together for “It’s Your Love,” a sweet moment during which they sang in front of the jumbo screen flashing photos of couple throughout the years including family vacations and backstage moments with their three daughters.

Individually they walked the arena, slapping high fives and hugging fans. Hill broke several times during “Mississippi Girl” to thank people for their kind words and McGraw came out all fired up with “Something Like That.” Appropriately, they ended the run together with “I Need You.”

Tim McGraw & Faith Hill announce their Soul2Soul world tour

Grammy award-winning superstars tim mcgraw and faith hill announce "soul2soul the world tour 2017".

soul2soul tour 2007

New 65-city tour, which kicks off April 2017 in New Orleans

Celebrates 10th anniversary of record-breaking "Soul2Soul II" tour

Saint Paul, Minn. (Oct. 5, 2016) - Last night, during a surprise performance at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill announced "Soul2Soul The World Tour 2017" kicking off in New Orleans on April 7. The 65-city tour celebrates the 10th anniversary of the record-breaking "Soul2Soul II" tour, the highest-grossing country music tour of all time, and the first time Faith Hill has toured since 2007.

Ticket presales begin Friday, Oct. 7 and tickets for the general public go on sale in waves starting Friday, Oct. 14.

"We have the best fans in the world, who have been with us through our entire journey and we are so excited to celebrate with them by going back on the road and showcasing an exciting new show," said Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. "It's always great when we get to work together and it's been a while since we got to do that."

It was also announced last night by NBC'S 'THE VOICE', for the first time ever, the show will feature a duo as key advisers this season. Hill and McGraw will prepare artists for the high-stakes knockout rounds airing in October.

McGraw and Hill have been dominating the music charts since the early '90s. They began touring together in 1996 on McGraw's Spontaneous Combustion tour. In 2000 they created the Soul2Soul franchise with their record-breaking "Soul2Soul" tour, becoming that year's top grossing and most successful U.S. tour. Their success continued in 2006-2007 when "Soul2Soul II" returned to the road, which was the most attended tour of the year in any musical genre and remains the highest grossing multi-year North American tour in country music history. Pollstar Magazine named it their "Major Tour of 2006," beating out Madonna, The Rolling Stones and The Red Hot Chili Peppers for the honor.

McGraw has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and dominated the singles charts with a stunning 41 No. 1 singles. He is currently riding the Billboard Country Airplay chart with three singles in the top 20, a feat he was the first to achieve, and now the first to achieve for a second time. He is the most played country artist since his debut in 1992, with two singles spending over 10 weeks at No. 1 ("Live Like You Were Dying" and the genre-breaking "Over and Over"). His recent multi-week No. 1 single "Humble and Kind," off his "Damn Country Music" album, is his 59th release to hit top 10 or better, and spawned a New York Times Best Seller book. McGraw's film credits include blockbusters "Friday Night Lights" and "The Blind Side." He will also be appearing in the feature film "The Shack" next year.

In addition to multiple nominations and five Grammy Awards, Hill has won an impressive list of awards, including multiple Billboard Music, American Music, People's Choice and Country Music Association Awards. She has consistently broken chart records with her No. 1 singles and has had major crossover success with the hits "This Kiss," "Breathe," "Cry" and "There You'll Be." She has had multiple albums top both the Billboard Top 100 and country charts simultaneously and has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. She has had three network TV specials that garnered top ratings and has appeared and performed on every major award show, including twice on the prestigious Academy Awards. In 2000, Faith performed the National Anthem to a global audience of over 88.5 million viewers at Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta and is the only country artist and one of only three artists ever to perform both "The Star Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America" at Super Bowls. This fall, Hill, alongside former "Oprah" co-executive producer and OWN executive Lisa Erspamer, will co-produce an innovative new daytime lifestyle show based in Nashville.

The tour itself pays homage to the original Soul2Soul II Tour of 2006 and 2007 and the original tour, which was on the road in 2000. All three tours were hugely successful for the couple — the original was the highest-grossing tour of that year.

Today, both stars maintain separate careers in addition to touring together, but the couple like to intertwine their music as much as possible. Currently, they're working on a joint album with Sony that is due out later this year.

Tim & Faith: Soul2Soul airs Nov. 17 at 9PM ET. The Soul2Soul Tour is on the road through October, resuming at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Aug. 4 following a two-day vocal rest for Hill, which resulted in a canceled tour date.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul Tour: 9 Best Things We Saw

By Lindsay Williams

Lindsay Williams

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill ‘s Soul2Soul World Tour blazed through Alabama last night (April 21st), playing to a packed house at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena. The show’s tightly executed production was upstaged only by the couple themselves, who are undeniably at their best when collaborating. Birmingham was the fourth stop on the tour, which marks Tim and Faith’s third Soul2Soul stint and their first since 2006. The 2017 leg is slated to visit 65 cities before wrapping in October. Over a carefully curated two hours, the couple rightfully assumed their place as country music royalty. Here are nine of the best moments we witnessed as Tim and Faith proved why, after 21 years of marriage, they’re still the ultimate country-music power couple. For those who haven’t yet seen the tour, be warned: Spoilers ahead.

Tim and Faith Debut New “Break First”  Throughout the evening Tim and Faith debuted multiple new songs from their forthcoming long-awaited duets album. Among them, “Break First” was an obvious standout as the couple traded vocals and shared harmonies on the pop-centric track that tells the story of two people standing at a crossroads, wondering who is going to be the first to extend forgiveness. As shards of fragmented glass shattered behind them on a massive LED screen, the couple faced each other, locking eyes with intensity and delivering rapid-fire lyrics with raw, believable emotion. While not inherently country from a musical standpoint, lyrically the song follows the genre’s storytelling bent. Meanwhile, it’s ready-made to be a full-throttle Adult Top 40 smash.

Tim Goes Solo  The first song of Tim’s standalone set, “Angry All the Time,” featured Faith contributing background vocals and playing acoustic guitar – a rare and welcome sight for an artist known more her vocal prowess than her musicianship. As Faith perched on a stool and intentionally faded into the background, Tim ascended into the forefront on a lift, seamlessly transitioning between sets. The organic sensibility of the song coupled with the vulnerable, homegrown lyrics and the blend of their voices made the classic cut a fitting bridge between Faith’s stage time and Tim’s portion.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Faith Gives “Breathe” Its Due  Arguably one of the biggest hits of her career, “Breathe” formed the centerpiece of Faith’s set. Clad in a form-fitting blue dress with sparkling gladiator sandals, Faith took center stage on a raised triangular platform to perform the slow-burning ballad. Her voice steadied into a smolder amidst a blanket of smoke, sounding just as pure and controlled as when she originally recorded the song in 1999. Behind her, vibrant translucent imagery made for a transcendent moment. In the midst of a mainly up-tempo set, “Breathe” appropriately provided an instance of respite that showcased the sheer beauty of Faith’s vocal range. Although Soul2Soul is Faith’s first tour in a decade, her voice and charismatic stage presence showed no signs of rust.

“Speak to a Girl” Commands Respect  A highly-anticipated moment, “Speak to a Girl” found Faith and Tim giving their audience a lesson in respect. A soulful, honest attempt at reminding listeners that words matter, the couple’s current single shone as brightly as Faith’s shimmering knee-length gold dress. On the surface, the song is focused on female empowerment, but upon closer examination, it’s truly a three-minute crash course on extending human kindness. “Young men, listen up. Young ladies, expect it,” Tim shouted to the audience afterwards, with Faith echoing her husband’s words with a resounding “Amen.”

Tim Delivers a Stunning Vocal Trio  Tim’s set ended with a trio of songs that served as a crescendo into the pinnacle of the evening. After sprinting through a handful of fan favorites and radio hits, he slowed the pace down with his most recent massive hit, “Humble and Kind,” as stark images of a diverse cross-section of humanity, culled from the song’s music video, played behind him. Continuing his inspirational message, he seamlessly segued straight into “Live Like You Were Dying” where fans’ voices nearly overpowered the entertainer as the audience sang along. With the energy at its highest of the night, Faith rejoined him for a personal rendition of “It’s Your Love.”

“It’s Your Love” Becomes the Night’s Theme  “It’s Your Love” was Tim and Faith’s first duet as husband and wife and is what makes their collaborations such a hotly anticipated experience at every appearance since. Strains of “It’s Your Love” could be heard in the opening sequence as the couple took the stage for the first time, but it wasn’t until the end that Tim and Faith gifted the audience with the full performance. Candid family photos, including numerous snapshots of their three daughters, rotated on cloth strips that descended from the ceiling, while Tim and Faith swayed to the music, their arms around each other, as if they were dancing in their kitchen. “We’re all about family. We’re all about loving one another,” Faith said. “That’s what we do in the South.”

Supreme court justices may do trump and jan. 6 rioters a solid, cher's son argues she's 'unfit to serve' as his conservator, jordan klepper questions maga supporters outside donald trump's trial on 'the daily show'.

Tim and Faith Know How to Pick Opening Acts  One of the best surprises of the Birmingham stop was Needtobreathe . The South Carolina natives unveiled strong harmonies and unmatched musicianship throughout their opening set of driving acoustic originals, which blended Americana, pop and gospel sensibilities. They only had time for an all-too-brief eight songs (including a moving cover of Ben E. King “Stand By Me”), but singer Bear Rinehart and his mates had the audience on their feet by the end of the set. With a different artist performing each weekend of the Soul2Soutl Tour, Needtobreathe is one of 26 opening acts hand-picked by Tim and Faith. Crossing genres, additional openers include Ben Rector, the Shadowboxers and Andra Day, as well as country newcomers like Cam, High Valley and Steve Moakler.

The Fans Become Part of the Show  The Soul2Soul encore began in unconventional fashion as Faith and Tim appeared out in the crowd. Faith snaked her way along the rows on the floor as she belted out a lively version of “Mississippi Girl,” shaking hands, giving hugs and sharing smiles with fans, including many young girls seemingly in awe of the blonde beauty. With no break between songs, “Mississippi Girl” washed into “Something Like That,” as Tim made his way down the lower level bleachers high-fiving fans. Artists at their level of success rarely make themselves so accessible, especially while singing two of their biggest hits. But judging by the wide smiles that lit up the LED screen, fans were thrilled by the superstars’ authentic engagement.

“I Need You” Is a Showstopper   No Soul2Soul date would be complete without an intimate performance of “I Need You.” Positioned on two mirrored straight-back chairs, Tim and Faith assumed their signature pose for the song, huddled around one mic, their hands resting easily on the other’s leg. They rose and fell on a platform that floated on a cloud of billowing smoke with two iridescent triangles hovering above their heads like halos. To the audience’s approval, they sealed the song with a long kiss. Of all the duets they’ve recorded, the intimacy of “I Need You” unlocks the magic that makes this couple – and this tour – so unique, and it provided a simple, yet stunning, way to conclude a spectacular evening.

Showtime announces tim mcgraw, faith hill music special.

Posted by Buddy Iahn | Aug 3, 2017

It’s the network’s first country music special

Showtime Networks has announced Tim & Faith: Soul2Soul , a concert special from Grammy Award-winning superstars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The special will premiere on Friday, November 17th at 9 pm ET/PT on SHOWTIME, on-air, on demand and over the internet.

The special was shot over the summer in the U.S. on this year’s Soul2Soul The World Tour. Tim & Faith: Soul2Soul is directed and executive produced by the award-winning Magical Elves production team of Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz ( Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Katy Perry: Part of Me ). The tour documentary includes live performances from their Soul2Soul tour, as well as unprecedented access to the country superstar couple, with never before seen interviews and behind the scenes footage capturing their unmatched chemistry on and off the stage.

As the premiere destination for the best concert films and music documentaries, Tim & Faith: Soul2Soul marks the first ever country music concert film for the network and joins a growing list of Showtime Documentary Films featuring music’s biggest names including recent concert films from Madonna, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz, One Direction, Mumford & Sons, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney, along with documentary films featuring Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Daft Punk, David Bowie, U2, The Eagles, The Beach Boys and Public Enemy.

Soul2Soul The World Tour 2017 kicked off its 80-date North American run in New Orleans in April 2017 and has been a fan and critical success from its launch, with rave reviews and sold out shows. The tour celebrates the tenth anniversary of the record-breaking Soul2Soul II tour in 2006 and 2007, the highest-grossing U.S. multi-year country music tour of all time, and the first time Hill has toured since 2007. They began touring together on McGraw’s Spontaneous Combustion tour in 1996. Their inaugural Soul2Soul tour in 2000 was the beginning of their very successful Soul2Soul franchise and that year’s top grossing and most successful U.S. tour.

A Soul2Soul tour stop in North Little Rock, Arkansas was canceled this week due to Hill being put on vocal rest. The concert was scheduled for tonight (Thurs, August 3rd) at the Verizon Arena. The venue states , “Under doctor’s advisement, Faith Hill has been put on two days of vocal rest and unfortunately, the Soul2Soul show in North Little Rock, AR at the Verizon Arena has been cancelled. Tim & Faith adore their fans and are sorry to disappoint them.”

The tour resumes tomorrow night and Saturday night at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Audra Day will be the opening act for both nights before a two week break and it resuming in Cleveland, Ohio on August 17th. Dates are set through October 27th in Brooklyn, New York.

McGraw and Hill are currently in the process of finishing their duet album, due out this year on Sony Music Entertainment. Earlier this year, the duo signed with the label as individual artists that includes multiple solo albums from each.

Tour Opening Act

«Something really crazy started to happen. I was opening up for every single country headliner imaginable. I was opening up for Brad Paisley, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw. Like, all these people that I'd always wanted to open up shows for. I was a nervous wreck. I rehearsed non-stop, over and over again. And I loved it. Those were some of my favorite times.» Taylor Swift

Rascal flatts: me and my gang tour (2006-2007).

«Rascal Flatts just had the perfect audience for me. I have so many young girls who are into my music and I was really wondering how it would be translated into a more traditional country audience. And it's just been unbelievable. It's really exciting to see that my music can apply to literally all walks of life.» Taylor Swift

George Strait's Tour (2007)

«It's crazy to think that a year ago, I was sitting in high school and now I'm on tour with George Strait. Playing for so many people a night, that's such an honor. The stage for his shows is really awesome 'cause there's four sides to it. So I get to work like four crowds every night. It's really, really exciting! When you're singing you can hear the echo of the people in the audience singing every single word with you and that was that big dream that I had for myself. It's happening.» Taylor Swift

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill: Soul2Soul II Tour (2007)

«Taylor proved that she has what it takes to be a real artist in country music and why her fans love her so. It was a thrill to have her on the 'Soul2Soul Tour.' She was professional, prepared, gracious, and most of all, gifted. The real deal.» Faith Hill

Brad Paisley: Bonfires & Amplifiers Tour (2008)

«Brad treats his opening acts like they're just on the same level as he is. I mean, he bought us presents and he'll come and talk to us. It's very cool to be on tour with somebody who's that down to earth. It's really a blessing to be on tour with somebody who just doesn't think that they're all that and who will just come to your bus and be like, 'Hey, how do you do today?'» Taylor Swift

Keith Urban: Escape Together World Tour (2009)

«She was a blast on the road. People have asked me, 'Could you sense that she was going to be who she became?' And I was like, 'I think everybody knew that.' You could see it clearly. She was playing way past where she was. She was way into the future. You could tell.» Keith Urban

(EXCLUSIVE, Premium Rates Apply) NASHVILLE, TN - APRIL 14: Musician Tim McGraw, singer Taylor Swift and singer Faith Hill seen backstage during the 2008 CMT Awards at Curb Event Center at Belmont University on April 14, 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Tim McGraw Knew Taylor Swift Was Destined for Greatness When They Toured Together in 2007

Tim McGraw saw a star in Taylor Swift.

After Taylor Swift first made a name for herself in country music with the song "Tim McGraw," the introductory hit's namesake and Faith Hill added Swift as an opener for select 2007 dates  on the couple's Soul2Soul II Tour.

As McGraw told Audacy 's Superstar Power Hour  host Katie Neal, he was certain then that the sky was the limit for Swift.

"Taylor was one of our opening acts. It was just her acoustic guitar," he said. "We spent a lot of time talking to her in the dressing room and stuff before and after the shows. Faith and I both said, 'This girl, she's going to be the biggest star in the world.' She's just so curious, which is a sign of great intelligence. We had no doubt she was headed to do big things."

Fittingly, it was Swift's The Red Tour in 2014 that surpassed McGraw and Hill's second Soul2Soul world tour as the highest-grossing country tour of all time.

A published author already, McGraw also discussed whether or not he's ready to write a memoir.

"It's something that's not on my radar," he said. "'Cause if you're going to do it, I think you've got to go completely all in. I think there's a lot of stuff that I wouldn't want to tell. I think if I did a memoir, it wouldn't be full and complete."

However, McGraw jokingly left the door open to someday pen his life story.

"Maybe down the road we'll see... When all the principals are dead, so I'm not getting any trouble. Protect the innocent and the guilty," he added.
