I.) Answer the following questions.

1.) ‘After spending a leisurely Sunday at home, the very thought of returning to work on Monday is tiring.’ Do you agree? Have you ever felt so?

Answer: Yes, I agree with it. On weekends we have holidays in school and I spend my weekends playing games, going for shopping and having fun. But when Monday approaches near, I feel sometimes not to go to school and feel like spending time at home. I become lazy sometimes after spending many days of holidays.

2.) The last sentence of the first paragraph and the first sentence of the second paragraph appear to contradict each other. What could be the reason for the change in the decision?

Answer: From the first paragraph we come to know that the narrator was newly-wed and didn’t want to leave his wife and go back to work. He wanted to spend more time with her. But in the second paragraph we can see that he had to go because he could not extend his 6-month leave anymore. He also had work responsibility, so he decided to go.

3.) Why did the author get into debt? Think of some possible reasons.

Answer: Since the author had got married, he had more responsibility. He had already extended his leave. As the responsibilities increases, the expenditure also increases which might have lead the author go into debt.

4.) Why was the author reluctant to carry his own luggage? What would you do if you were in the author’s place?

Answer: The author was highly educated and had a white-collar job, so the thought of carrying his own luggage would mean people making fun of him. Another reason was that he was physically not so strong to carry the luggage because his education made him sit for hours spending time in studies which made him physically inactive. Had I been in author’s place, I would have carried my luggage

Answer: The author was a government officer and had earned respect in his village. He thought that if had carried the luggage, the people would laugh at him. His fear was imaginary because people like those who do their own work. In fact people would have appreciated his humble act.

6.) Choose one sentence from the story that best expresses the author’s false prestige. Support your answer with details from the story.

Answer: Somehow, I had the feeling that if I carried the luggage, my father and my people, in fact the whole world would laugh at me and I would be belittled- this sentence from the story shows the author’s false prestige. He was a government servant and this made him earn respect from the villagers. His parents were proud of him. But he felt that his act of carrying his own luggage would mean the people laughing at him. He though that it would bring shame to him. His this attitude shows that he had false prestige.

7.) What does the phrase ‘opposite directions’ in the last sentence suggest?

Answer: ’Opposite directions’ in the story has a great significance. When the author sat in the bus, he saw the road from which they had come. He could see that the road had pebble that hurt his father’s legs. The opposite directions suggest that the author led a luxurious life whereas his father took the road which was full of pain.

‘The Adverse Effects of Education’

It is a well-known quote that education has the power to change the world. It indeed is true. But education alone is responsible in shaping one’s personality. There are other factors that play important role.

When one is highly educated has spent maximum time in the studies, he/she becomes physically inactive. A person tends to be sitting at one place and lack physical strength. Also there are some educated people who are at the high status in their job, who don’t like to do even the smallest things. They feel like they are not meant for such small and trivial jobs. So they keep servants for carrying their laborious work. They feel that by doing such work, they are harming their prestige and image.

Nowadays, people who are highly educated feel that they have become modern and dresses the same way. It is no wrong in wearing fashionable clothes, but disrespecting own culture is. One should never forget where they have come from. One starts imitating the western culture and fashion and feel like their own culture is not so cool. Also there are some people who change their dressing when they get education, they feel like simplicity won’t suit their status. Their change in fashion make them feel like they are superior than others. One must always remember that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

We see some people around us who are highly educated but they are least interested in the family relationships. They get so busy in their work that they are not able give enough time to their family. Education makes them so self-centered that they only focus on themselves. They try to make other feel inferior. All they want is money and don’t feel the need to spend quality time with their families. This makes them hollow and there is lack of love and tenderness in their relationships.

Less Education makes one forget how to respect their elders. Respecting our elders is something that our culture has taught us and we should follow the same. But some people due to education, some people consider themselves above everyone else. They forget the elders and values given by them to us. They treat the elders in inferior manner and ignore them.

One of the most important negative impacts of education is that some people who are highly educated belittle those who are illiterate. They thinkthat they have achieved something greater than everyone else . No doubt highly educated people deserve respect but that does not mean those are not educated don’t deserve respect. After all we all are human beings and one should not judge anyone on the basis on o their education. Illiterate people too possess certain values that make them good human beings.

It is important to get education and become successful in life, but what is more important is the fact that one should strive to be a good human being. What is the use of education if it doesn’t make you treat others well? Education plays key role but it is our values that should be treasured.

1. What sounds do you hear on the road in the morning?

Ans. In the morning, we hear the sound of the birds, vegetable man, newspaper, boy’s bicycle and the talks of school man.

Ans. He is selling pea, cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, raddish, cucumber and potatoes.

3. Why is the road annoyed with the crow?

Ans. The road is annoyed with the crow because it is waking up the road again and again but the road is already wide awaken.

4. Talk about how you would cross the road.

Ans. We shall first step, then look towards our left, then right and then listen if any sound of the traffic could be heard and then will cross the road.

5. Use can and cannot alternatively in the following sentences.

Ans. (i) I can hear the sounds of cars.

(ii) I cannot hear the train whistle.

(iii) I can hear the wind blow.

(iv) I cannot hear the clock.

CBSE Class 10 Science  Question Paper 2024: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10 students appeared for their Science exam today. The exam was scheduled from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. However, question papers were distributed 15 minutes earlier to allow students to read the questions thoroughly and familiarize themselves with the content before officially starting the examination. We have provided here all sets of question paper for the CBSE Class 10 Science Exam 2024. Students can check various sets and analyse them for the comparative difficulty level. Answer keys for all sets can also be accessed from the links provided in this article. CBSE Class 10 Science  Exam Pattern 2024:

The CBSE Class 10 Science question paper included 39 questions for 80 marks. The time allowed to write the paper was 3 hours. All questions were compulsory with some questions having internal choices.

The paper was divided into five sections:

  • Section A consisted  of 20 MCQs carrying 1 mark each.
  • S ection B consisted of  6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each.
  • S ection C consisted  of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each.
  • Section D consisted  of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each.
  • Section E consisted of  3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-parts.
