Accidental Damage Protection provides travelers with coverage for accidental damage to a rental property during their stay. Our damage protection insurance is offered through Generali Global Assistance must be purchased at least 24 hours before check-in.    Policy options

How to Start a Travel Insurance Claim

Your travel insurance claim is very important to us. Generali Global Assistance is committed to providing prompt, fair and equitable claims service. Claims must be submitted within one year after a covered loss, but should be submitted as soon as possible in order to expedite resolution.

1. Start a claim

Start your claim by visiting our eClaims portal and entering your policy number.

If you have questions, FAQs can be found at the eClaims portal.

Our Claims Department pledges the following to all insured travelers:

  • On receipt of your completed claims form, it will be assigned to a representative who will manage the file to resolution.
  • Claims are processed in a timely manner.
  • Phone calls are returned within one business day (most calls are returned on the same day they are received).

2. Provide supporting documentation

In addition to submitting your claim, we require supporting documentation in order to prove your loss. You will receive detailed instructions in the eClaims portal about what documents are required and how to upload documents directly to that site. Required documentation varies depending upon the type of claim you're filing and depending upon the event that resulted in your loss. 

We encourage you to provide as much supporting documentation as soon as possible once you file your claim. Doing so will minimize the need for your dedicated claims team member to contact you to request additional information at a later date and may expedite the resolution of your claim. 

3. Stay tuned

Once you've initiated your claim, your case will be assigned to a dedicated claims team member who will manage your claim from start to finish. Your dedicated claims team member will contact you if they have any questions or if any additional information is needed in order to finalize your claim.

Travel troubleshooter: insurance purchased through vrbo gets lost in the shuffle.

Q: I paid for a vacation rental on Paradise Island in the Bahamas through Vrbo. I also purchased trip cancellation through CSA Travel Protection on the Vrbo site and have confirmation of it.

Unfortunately, one of the members of my party is unable to travel for medical reasons. I called CSA to file a claim, but they have no record of my policy. A representative also told me they have been having problems with Vrbo confirming trip insurance and not sending the info to CSA. CSA said that I am not covered as far as they are concerned.

I reached out to Vrbo again. An agent told me to contact CSA. I even copied and pasted my insurance confirmation in the correspondence, but he wasn't interested. I also asked him for his badge number, but he said he wasn't allowed to provide it.

To resolve the problem, I would appreciate confirmation of a trip insurance policy so that I can take the necessary steps to obtain a refund. Can you help me, please?

A: If you paid for a travel insurance policy through Vrbo, you should have it. What Vrbo does — or doesn't — do with your money once it confirms the policy is not your problem.

Your correspondence with Vrbo clearly shows that you purchased an insurance policy. That turned out to be a smart move, because the policy covers an unexpected illness. Since a member of your party can't travel, you should get a full refund for your stay.

The paper trail is confusing, but it supports your position. Vrbo's system said, "The original purchase did not go through and was canceled." Yet, you received a confirmation. But Vrbo also says it initiated a retroactive purchase of the trip cancellation insurance for you. So, you should have been covered.

There's only one way you could have known that you didn't have insurance, and that is to monitor your credit card purchases carefully. If you're expecting a transaction, and it doesn't go through, you'll need to make inquiries. That's especially important with insurance — even if you get a confirmation.

I contacted Vrbo on your behalf. "This is a complex case," a Vrbo representative told me. "Our customer relations team has been looking into what happened with Mr. Maniar's booking and has been speaking with CSA to get more information. We are also providing Mr. Maniar with a full refund for the cost of his booking as a gesture of goodwill, and he will be contacted by our billing team for next steps." Vrbo refunded your stay.
