Kiss, Def Leppard announce 2014 summer tour

Members of the rock band KISS: from left, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons , Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer pose in full makeup and costume before playing at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA. Photographed at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood in February.

Kiss and Def Leppard will team up this summer for a 42-city North American tour that will "deliver good news and excitement," says Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley.

The tour begins June 23 in West Valley City, Utah, and wraps up Aug. 31 in Woodlands, Texas. Tickets go on sale starting Friday.

The groups announced the tour Monday at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. The press conference was streamed live via the Live Nation website.

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott says he and Gene Simmons first discussed the idea of the two bands touring together when he and the Kiss bassist played some South American dates two years ago as part of a rock-and-roll all-stars tour. "It's finally happened, which is fantastic," Elliott says.

It'll be the first time the two bands have shared a bill, though Stanley says, "We've run into each other at festivals. It just seemed to be a natural fit." Stanley also noted that one of guitarist Phil Collen's pre-Def Leppard bands, Girl, opened for Kiss in the U.K. during the early '80s.

Kiss did a similar co-headlining tour with Motley Crue in 2012.

Kiss released its first albums, Kiss and Hotter Than Hell , 40 years ago, and the band will commemorate the anniversary with a slew of archival releases, including a 34-LP vinyl box set and a two-CD compilation called Kiss 40 . The group will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame April 10.

Def Leppard has been writing music for the group's next album. "We all camped out at my house last month and wrote songs, which you will hear none of this summer," Elliott says. Collen says he expects that album to come out in 2015.

Simmons says a dollar from each ticket sold on the tour will go to to the Wounded Warrior Project and other military non-profits. Those charitable partners include the USO, Hire a Hero, Project Resiliency/The Raven Drum Foundatio, and The Augusta Warrior Project. "Politicians fart through their mouth," Simmons says. "Only the military makes freedom possible."

Stanley adds that the group also plans to hire vets for its crew. "We try to find a couple of vets who want to go out and be part of the team," he says. "This is a chance for somebody to travel and be part of the Kiss Army."

Elliot says he doesn't see any rivalry developing between the groups while they're on tour. "It's two great bands that are going to be playing for the same amount of time," he says. "It's joint forces. I don't see it as competitive at all."

KISS And Def Leppard Setlist Summer 2014 + Concert Review #Kiss40Tour #DefLeppard

July 24, 2014 by Dawn McAlexander

If you are looking for a concert that is basically two for the price of one then check this out. KISS and Def Leppard are on tour for a few more months together this year with both bands doing long sets. Jay and I saw the concert in Charlotte this past weekend have the KISS and Def Leppard setlist for those of you who would like to know what you might expect to hear at a show on this tour. Keep in mind that they might change it up a little between shows, but this should give you a general idea.

Def Leppard went on stage first {after an opening act that none of us were familiar with}. They performed 14 songs and their set list was crammed full of songs that anyone who knows Def Leppard will know. For the most part, they performed them the way that you are used to hearing, so I loved that. You can sing along without worrying about Joe Elliott making too many changes that may or may not ruin it.

KISS went on stage last and performed 14 songs, as well. KISS is my husband’s favorite band and we have seen them in concert once before. My husband loved this concert because he knew all of the songs. However, if you are not a hardcore fan like he is, you might find that you don’t know many of the songs {perhaps less than half}. I found that a little discouraging, as I was hoping they would play songs like “Forever,” “Beth” and “Calling Dr. Love.” They did none of these. So here is the set list for you to judge for yourself as to whether you will like their half of the show.

KISS And Def Leppard Setlist: KISS

Psycho Circus Deuce Shout It Out Loud War Machine Hotter Than Hell I Love It Loud Lick It Up God Of Thunder Hide Your Heart Cold Gin Love Gun Black Diamond Detroit Rock City Rock And Roll All Night

What are your thoughts on the KISS and Def Leppard Setlist for Summer 2014? Do you love it just as it is? Is there anything that you would have liked to hear that they aren’t playing this year? Did you see them in a different city where the setlist was different?

Final Thoughts On The KISS And Def Leppard Setlist

All in all, I thought the concert was good. I thought both bands did better {performance-wise} in concerts that I had seen them in previously but I still can’t say that I have ever seen either of them do a bad show. I loved Def Leppard’s setlist. The only song I really would have liked to have heard that was not included is “Torn To Shreds,” but that was not a hit, so I understand it being left out. It’s just a personal fave. However, this was my 4th time seeing Def Leppard in concert and I have always been pleased when I have seen them live.

As far as KISS goes, for a celebration of their 40th anniversary and induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t do more of the hits that helped them reach these milestones. If you only know the really popular songs by KISS, I advise you to bone up on your KISS music knowledge before you see them in concert if you want to sing along. KISS is not all about the music, though. It’s about the entire experience. Having said that, the pyrotechnics are awesome and the band looks crazy cool on stage so it’s still worth paying for.

My tickets are here for @def_leppard & @KISSOnline , man I'm ready for July 19th, Charlotte N.C. pic.twitter.com/203RStXu35 — Wesley Hovis (@WesleyHovis) June 15, 2014

Kiss and Def Leppard Set to Announce ‘2014 Heroes’ Tour

Def Leppard and Kiss will join forces for a summer 2014 tour, in what is expected to be one of the year's biggest classic rock events of the year.

Updated 3/16: Kiss and Def Leppard will make a "major announcement" regarding what's being called the '2014 Heroes Tour' at 2PM ET on Monday, March 17. The proceedings will be streamed live at LiveNation.com . According to a press notice, the tour will "help change the lives of veterans and military families across America."

Asked by TicketsThere about possible dates with Kiss and Poison , Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell quipped: "I’d say you’d be half right there, but only half right and half wrong."

Poison's Bret Michaels mentioned a tour with Def Leppard while onstage last summer, according to the Kansas City Star ; the two bands previously appeared together in 2012. Poison bassist Bobby Dall then hinted at joint dates with Def Leppard and Kiss this summer during a February interview at NAMM. However last week drummer Rikki Rockett said Poison would not be touring this summer , while laying the blame on a bandmate he chose not to identify.

All of this will be sorted out very soon, Campbell says: "There will be an announcement of our tour imminently, we’re talking a matter of days. It has to be announced, because we’re almost at summertime."

Def Leppard did not mount a major tour last summer following its well-received 'Viva! Hysteria' residency in March and April at Las Vegas, playing only a handful of North American dates. The band will return to Vegas later in 2014, this time to focus on 'Pyromania.'

Campbell, who rose to fame with Dio before joining Def Leppard in the early '90s, did say that a tour into Europe seems unlikely this year - though he left open the possiblity after their next studio effort is complete. "Most likely if we get this record finished for next spring that would see us doing a world tour of sorts -- whatever that means nowadays."

Both bands have also made it possible for military personnel to have first crack at tickets with a special pre-sale starting Tuesday (March 18) at 10AM local time at Military.com .
