7 Incredible waterfalls, thrilling cliff jumps in Bali

We found a site with four thrilling cliff jumps in Bali, Indonesia, seven mesmerizing waterfalls, and an amazing rock slide. It’s unlike anything else we’ve seen on our travels.

Plunging into a cool, fresh, tropical waterfall pool is one of the most exhilarating experiences imaginable. As early retired, budget, slow travelers, finding these places is something of a hobby.  

Bali, Indonesia has some of the best waterfalls and jumping on the planet.

What makes these cliff jumps in Bali so unbelievable

By best waterfalls and cliff jumps, I mean a few things: 

• They are close to roads for easy access
• Admission costs are cheap – or free
• Paths and stairs are in decent condition
• The falls and pools themselves are well-tested and safe; deep splashdown areas, no submerged rocks, sandy bottoms
• Easy climbs to jump points

These qualifications are crucial. In our years of travel, we’ve visited a number of waterfalls that required long, hot hikes on difficult terrain, where the water flow is seasonal and swimming or jumping is limited because of poor natural features or dangerous conditions.

Of course, no one enjoys a waterfall that is overly developed either. Our recent visit to the Aling Aling waterfall area near the northern Bali town of Lovina struck the perfect balance.

Aling Aling is truly a natural ‘water park’

Aling Aling is an easy 15-minute drive up into the northern coastal foothills. There is a 125,000 rupiah admission fee ($8) to jump/swim. But you can walk down and view the waterfalls (and jumpers) without swimming for 20,000 rupiah ($1.25).

It is a spectacular place — and the best cliff jumping I’ve ever experienced!

There are a total of seven different waterfalls along a short stretch of the steep riverbed. One, 5, 10, and 15 meter cliff jumping spots are available. (That’s about 4, 16, 32, and 50 feet!) There is also a 10 meter-long, smooth, natural, rock ‘sliding board’. The place is a blast!

As part of the admission fee, we were assigned a local ‘personal guide’ who stayed with us and supervised and photographed (with our phone) the climbs, jumps and slides. We were even given new life vests (useful protection on the slide). Most valuable was his coaching and reassurance about the jump landing zones.

When leaping from a 20, 30, or 50-foot waterfall, you want to be assured of a wide, deep, unobstructed splashdown.  Woooohoooo!

As you can see from the photos and videos, Aling Aling is a beautiful and thrilling place to do cliff jumps in Bali. In addition, there are changing rooms, a few seating areas, snack food vendors, and paid secure parking.

You can also easily walk about 10 minutes upstream and view (no jumping) the majestic 100-foot high Aling Aling waterfall. Gorgeous!

In all, I think the Aling Aling experience is well worth the $8 fee. And while there are lots of places I haven’t been, I suspect very few offer the number and variety of thrills and views combined with the ease of access and safety that is present here.

Getting there

Grab isn’t common in this part of Bali, and there are no public buses. Scooter rentals or the infrequent cab could get you there. Our Airbnb host drove us up from Lovina.

The Aling Aling Waterfall | Bali Waterfall Jumping & Slide

During my time on Bali, I knew I wanted to explore some of the island’s best waterfalls. During my research though, there was one waterfall that stood out to me most – the Aling Aling Waterfall.

Are you looking to cliff jump from 16 feet? How about 33 feet? How about 50, yes 50 feet?! Or maybe you are looking for Bali’s best natural waterfall water slide?

Well, Aling Aling offers it all and this guide will go over everything you need to take part of a visit.

1) Aling Aling Background

While Aling Aling is the name of the main beautiful waterfall here, there are three other waterfalls right nearby where all the more adrenaline options take place.

Just note when someone says Aling Aling, it also includes the area where you will find these other activities.

Unlike some other waterfalls in the region, the walk from the parking lot to the waterfall area is pretty short, so do not worry too much about a long trek or anything like that.

• Waterfall Slide* : Kroya Waterfall
• 33 Feet / 10 Meter Jump Waterfall : Kembar Waterfall
• 50 Feet / 15 Meter Jump Waterfall : Pucuk Waterfall
• Location : Buleleng Regency (map down below)
• Ticket Cost : 20.000 IDR / $1.50 USD for visit OR 125.000 IDR / $9 USD to jump into the water

*Across from the Kroya natural waterfall slide, there is a 16 feet / 5 meter jump off of a platform for those that want to test out a shorter jump.

2) Where is Aling Aling Waterfall?

Aling Aling is located in the Buleleng Regency of Bali, which makes up a good portion of the north side of the island.

It is not too close by too many of the tourist spots like Ubud or Seminyak, making it a bit quieter of a destination to visit.

Below are some approximate driving times from some of the more popular places on the island:

• Munduk : 1 Hour
• Ubud : 2 Hours
• Canggu : 2 Hours
• Kuta : 2 Hours
• Seminyak : 2 Hours
• Uluwatu : 2.5 Hours

For the exact location of the entrance to the waterfalls, you will want to input “ Aling Aling Waterfall Reception ” into Google Maps.

This will take you right to the parking lot, where the short trek begins to the various waterfalls. I have also pinned the waterfalls in the map below, however the locations are just approximate on Google Maps.

3) How to Get to Aling Aling Waterfall

When it comes to visiting places in Bali there are three main options to choose from – a private driver, renting your own motorbike, or a group tour.

Private Driver

Hiring a driver for the day is a pretty common thing to do when visiting Bali. Prices for a full day driver are around $50 USD give or take. If you are traveling with others, splitting that cost among several people is a great way to stay on budget.

You can either go ahead and book a driver ahead of time through a trusted company or you can wait until you arrive and book a driver in Bali.

Motorbike Rental

Renting your own motorbike is the other main option here. I would only advise you doing so though if you are very comfortable driving one. Accidents happen all the time by inexperienced and even experienced drivers so do be cautious on the roads.

Depending on where you are coming from, you may be spending 4+ hours of driving in a day, so that is something you may want to consider as well.

Motorbikes are cheap though ranging from $5 – $10 USD (+gas) per day. So if you can handle the motorbike and want to save some cash then this option is for you.

A third option here is to join a group tour. I am usually not too interested in these situations to join a group tour just because a private driver is basically the same cost.

If traveling with another person, then a private driver would certainly be cheaper. I will say though, if you are a solo traveler and looking to join in with some other like-minded travelers then a group tour is a good way to meet some people.

4) Where to Stay in Munduk

If you decide to spend a few days in Northern Bali exploring the beautiful jungle and waterfall region, I recommend staying in the town of Munduk. Here you will find a variety of different accommodation options at various price points.

You will be much more accessible to waterfalls such as Aling Aling as you will not need to drive hours just to reach it.

During my time in Munduk I was able to visit several waterfalls each day while those arriving from further out cities may only be able to visit 1 or 2 due to the longer driving times.

5) What to Bring on the Trek

Since there will be a bunch of water activities involved in your day at Aling Aling I would recommend bringing the following items:

Dry Bag : You will be getting pretty close to the waterfalls and your belongings can easily get wet. Bringing along a waterproof bag will protect your stuff from any potential water. » Take a look at this Earth Park Dry Bag to hold your belongings.

GoPro : Since you will be jumping and sliding off waterfalls, having a GoPro to capture the footage will be your best bet here.  Check out the GoPro Hero  for your travels.

Bathing Suit : Wearing something that can get wet will be a good idea either way as you will be heading into the water.

Quick Dry Towel : I always like to bring along a quick dry towel to dry off during days like this. Since you can jump into the water, it is always nice to get yourself dry before continuing the day. » This Rainleaf microfiber quick dry towel has been my go to when it comes to traveling.

Tips : Don’t forget to tip your local guide! They work hard and a few dollars can go a long way for them.

6) Aling Aling Waterfall Day Trip

After arriving at the parking lot and paying for your ticket (20.000 IDR just to visit the waterfalls or 125.000 IDR to actually go into the water and take part of the various adrenaline options), you will head down the pathway for about 10 minutes.

The more expensive ticket comes with a guide that will take you to the various waterfalls and help you navigate where and how to make your jumps/slides into the water.

A. Kroya Waterfall

Up first will be Kroya Waterfall. Here you will find two different activities to take part of – a 16 foot jump and a waterfall slide, both very fun to do and should be comfortable enough even for those who may be a bit hesitant for the taller jumps.

The 16 foot jump is located across from the actual waterfall. You wont be jumping off the waterfall for this one, rather there is a concrete platform across from the waterfall, making this a pretty easy entry to make.

It is a very scenic photo op too as you will have Kroya out in the background along with the motivational sign at the jumping point “Never Try, Never Know, Test Your Adrenaline, Light on Your Spirit”.

After jumping on into the water you can opt to make your way up the path on the left side of the waterfall. There is an easy path to follow, which your guide will take you through towards the top of Kroya.

Once on top of the waterfall, your guide will help you sit down and position you correctly so you can slide down the waterfall seamlessly. For this one it is also best to have a lifejacket on so you don’t hurt your back.

Once seated, just lay back, cross your arms and legs and head down Kroya Waterfall. My guide had mentioned that this is the only major waterfall to actually slide down in all of Bali so why not give it a shot!

B. Kembar Waterfall

Up next is the 33 foot high Kembar Waterfall. To get to Kembar you can either make the short walk across the rocks/path or you can take a very small waterfall slide from one pool to the next and walk from there.

We are now getting higher up so for those that are comfortable enough, it is time to make the second jump of the day. Here you will find a double waterfall with a gap in the middle of the two.

Right on top of the gap you will find a small concrete platform to leap off of. This makes things a bit easier for you as you don’t need to clear much as you jump into the water.

C. Pucuk Waterfall

After leaping off the 33 foot jump, its just a minute to the final jump of the day – a 50 foot plunge off of Pucuk Waterfall. Not only is this the highest of them all, but it did seem to me that you had to clear a bit more off the wall to land cleanly.

If you are confident enough to make the leap go for it! You will also find a bit of a concrete platform here to better position yourself when jumping off.

D. Aling Aling Waterfall

Now that you have gotten your adrenaline activities in for the day, it is time to head to the biggest waterfall of them all – Aling Aling Waterfall. The waterfall is just a quick 5 minute walk from the previous waterfall area.

At 115 feet tall you are not allowed to jump off of it. Aling Aling is actually known as a sacred place for locals and legend has it, this is where many Indonesians hid during the Dutch occupation of the country.

Feel free to enjoy the views from a far as you finish up a fun and exhilarating day exploring some of Bali’s best waterfalls.

Once all done with the Aling Aling area, you can either head on off to your next waterfall or attraction for the day, or make your way back to your hotel. If you have the time definitely check out Sekumpul Waterfall and Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, which are located not too far away.

Everyone has a bucket list, including me. And I seriously recommend putting this Aling-Aling Waterfall Tour on yours. Along with stops at Gitgit Waterfalls and Floating Temple, this is a fun-packed day tour that tick off four iconic Bali attractions in a day. You’re friends and family back home will gasp and applaud (but really they’re green with envy) and so will your Instagram followers.

Pickup starts at 7 AM from your villa or hotel. I advise having breakfast before you leave because it’s going to be a long day. You can change your itinerary on the day if you need to, but this is a solid itinerary that I’ve used myself many times before, and it gives you the opportunity to see  several of the best attractions  in Bali in a single day.

You can change out some attractions and add others, and I recommend you lean heavily on our driver’s experience. They know where the best routes through ricefields are, local places to eat and cafes, and how to keep on schedule when traffic gets heavy.

It’s a 180 km round trip , and the schedule will depend on how long you spend at Aling-Aling Waterfall swimming, cliff jumping and rock slides (usually around 1.5 hours but some spend up to 3 hours).

Aling-Aling Waterfall Adventure

Adventure time! Your driver will help you pay the entrance fee and hire a guide at a cost of IDR125k, which is relatively expensive for Bali waterfalls, but is fair as it covers your guide who will take you down to the foot of the falls and through the canyoning and cliff-jumping spots. Plus you get a bottle of water.

The other advantage of hiring a local guide is he can take photos of you for some great action shots. It takes around 5-10 minutes to walk from the car park to the foot of the falls.

There is no swimming in the actual Aling-Aling Waterfall itself, as it’s a holy place for the local Balinese. However, the big attraction is the  canyoning, waterslides and cliff jumping  in several downstream falls – the Kembar, Kroya, and Pucuk waterfalls.

There are several jumps of 5m, 10m and 15m which are definitely worth it for the fit adventurer. It’s around a 15-20 minute walk back up to the car park.

Gitgit Twin Waterfalls

Only 30 minutes away from Aling-Aling is Gigit Waterfall , so it would be a shame to come all this way and not see these majestic falls as well. I also have a Gitgit Waterfall Tour if you want to do these attractions but without the cliff-diving adventure of Aling-Aling.

It’s around 35m high surrounded by lush jungle and home to a local troop of monkeys that you might see drinking downstream or in the trees around the falls.

Stone gates are an important architectural tradition in Balinese culture. You will see them literally everywhere, from entranceways to villages, temples and places of cultural significance.

At the entrance to Handarah Golf Course are the famous Handarah Gates. This is a photographer’s dream location with the lush mountains making a stunning backdrop behind the huge stone gates that are an excellent example of Balinese architecture.

Ulun Danu Beratan – The Floating Temple

The Floating Temple, Pura Ulan Danu Beratan  in Balinese, is one of the iconic images of Bali. Located on the western shore of Lake Beratan in the mountains near Bedugul, its position in the lake can give the illusion of floating on the water.

This is where you can also grab a late lunch as there’s a cafe inside the temple complex. I also have another custom itinerary for a Danu Beratan Temple Tour that may suit you.

Very impressed with your website and all the excellent information. We have 5 days in Ubud and 8 days in Seminyak commencing in early April and want to plan some tours with you.

It looks like your drivers are based in the South but I assume we can opt for the Ubud tour etc and be picked up from Ubud.

Am I able to DM you with some thoughts to plan out 3 + tour days plus Airport transfers etc?

Hi Paul, yes, you can book any of the tours and be dropped off in Ubud, being mindful of the number of hours for most tours are 10 hours and some are 12 hours.

You can reply to this with any other questions, although I am not always only and complicated itinerary questions may not be able to be answered in my available free time.

A couple of questions on the Nusa Penida tours. We have a 17 and 14 year old and want to do the East & West tour. I see you have replied on another post that you would not recommend anyone under 15 going on the tour or have I miss read this? Both are excellent swimmers so have no issue with a beach pick up.

Is there an option just to snorkel with Manta’s rather than the 4 stops listed on the main itinerary if we just chose either the East or West tour – there are 4 of us?

Hi Paul, that sounds reasonable regarding your son. Snorkelling is only available combined with the West Tour because those are the attractions you pass on the way to Manta Bay.

With all/any of your waterfall tours, I was wondering how accessible they are for elderly people. Is it possible to custom create a tour that only goes to the waterfalls that are easy to access for people who are not as mobile? (Can walk, but fear falling on slippery rocks).

Hi Parya, I am very wary of recommending any waterfalls adventures to the elderly or those with mobility issues, because all waterfalls by definition involve water and stones, and are always going to have slippery sections in getting to them. Especially those in the north like Aling Aling. However, having said that I know that Suwat Waterfall is probably the easiest to access and can best be seen by hiring a private car and driver so you can customise your itinerary for the day.

Hi Melissa, I can see how that could be confusing, as I was allowing a booking to be made with just a deposit. Which means two currencies are being used, AUD$32.50 for the deposit and IDR 700k as the balance to be paid to the driver.

To make things easier I’ve just updated the booking form to charge the entire amount in one currency. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Eli, The price would be the same – you’re paying for the driver’s time and vehicle, which doesn’t change even if one person is travelling.

How much cash should we bring for 3 people going on this tour?

Hi Jack, It’s IDR125k each for access to Aling-Aling and you will need money for lunch, drinks, and other activities, entrance fees to Danu Beretan plus the money you need to pay for the driver.

Depending on what you eat and drink, I’d say IDR500k each should get you through the day.

The quickest way there is to turn right at the second set of shops, look out for the Happy Snapper Restaurant. You’ll then just follow the road until you come to a cross roads, turn right, and then you’ll see Devil’s Tears on your left hand side.

Devil’s Tears is a beautiful cliff jump spot. In the surf Nusa Lembongan picture you can see the pretty shallow waves hitting the cliff. Sunset here when it is small or no swell is always amazing, and they have these beautiful pools that form at the bottom of the cliffs where you can swim into. A ton of fun in general and relatively easy to get too as long as there isn’t a big swell in.

So Where To Stay Nusa Lembongan On Your Tour?

Where to stay Nusa Lembongan ?  There are many accommodation options to choose from, the main two areas where you will find more accommodation options are in Jungut Batu or Mushroom Bay. If you are looking for the best area to stay on Nusa Lembongan, we recommend staying in both of these areas as they are a short scooter ride away from each other and have local restaurants close by. If you would prefer to be near Dream beach or Tamarind beach your only option really is to stay in Coconut Beach at the far north end of Nusa Lembongan.

Nusa Lembongan is full of beautiful white sandy beaches and golden sands. You will be on an island so of course there will be coral reefs surrounding you, and the sea will have a transparent colour with lots of fish swimming around. There are no clouds to block the sun or the view, so you can always see where you are going from the top of a hill. Where to stay on Lembongan? The area around Jungut Batu beach, Mushroom Bay and Sandy Bay seem to be the most popular areas to stay in Nusa Lembongan.

The waterfall is approximately 35 meters tall and is surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque landscapes. What sets this waterfall apart from others in Bali is the fact that it is not just one waterfall, but a series of cascades and pools that are perfect for swimming and cliff jumping. It’s my favorite waterfall cliff jump in all of Bali!

ALING ALING WATERFALL: ULTIMATE GUIDE

In this blog post, I’ll share everything you need to know about Aling Aling Waterfall in Bali. It’s a great spot to visit on your own or on a guided tour with transport, so I’ll detail the best ways to get there and all of the options.

HOW TO GET TO ALING ALING WATERFALL

Aling Aling Waterfall is about 2-hours from Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, and Kuta. However, there are multiple options to get up there including an All-Inclusive Waterfall Tour that has pick-up from your hotel in a van and guides you to multiple waterfalls in one day. This specific tour also takes you to the famous Handara Gates.

Moped:  It costs about $5 USD to rent a moped each day and takes about 2-3 hours to drive to Aling Aling from Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta. It can be quite stressful driving if you are new to mopeds as there are far fewer rules on the road and overtaking slow trucks and cars is necessary unless you want to make the journey last an extra hour. Also it’s a long drive so expect a sore butt and take a jacket and beanie if you go early in the morning as you will be heading through the hills (always freezing).

Guided Tour: This All-Inclusive Waterfall Tour is actually one of the best ways to visit the epic waterfalls in the North of Bali. The tour picks you up from your hotel, takes you to Handara Gates on the way and then tours you through all of the different levels at the Aling Aling Waterfalls.

ALING ALING WATERFALL GUIDE COST

Once you arrive at the location I have pinned below or been following the many road signs, you will reach a small office building. If you are not on an organized tour you will buy your ticket here and get a guide for a fixed price. It is mandatory at this location and it isn’t a rip-off situation. It is actually some sections where you need a guide to tell you where to jump or where to get out etc.

Many times around Bali people try to force you to have a guide just to walk down some stairs and look at a waterfall but our guide was actually a legend and it wasn’t very expensive at all. The price of the guide per person was $12 USD.

The Aling Aling entrance fee just to view the waterfalls but not to swim and jump is only 10,000 rupiah or $1 USD. As I mentioned before it really comes down to safety. If you aren’t jumping and swimming you don’t need a guide but the guides are there to keep everyone safe. It’s their backyard and they know what is above and below the surface.

Don’t be the idiot who tries to sneak in for 10,000 and then jumps. They have made the rules clear and it’s a fixed rate for everyone so they aren’t ripping tourists off. If you do want to jump pay the fee and get the guide if not just watch others and save some cash.

MY EXPERIENCE AT ALING ALING WATERFALL

When we made our way down the steps with the guide I didn’t really know what to expect. I wasn’t stoked to have paid $12 to see a waterfall but what I didn’t know was that at the bottom of the stairs was much more than Aling Aling Waterfall!

It’s only a short walk and you are passing through vines and walls that appear to be weeping through the rocks as water trickles down. It’s a real jungle feel without having to venture off the beaten path, which is actually what a lot of people are looking for!

Aling Aling is a massive, booming fall of approximately 90 feet. This waterfall has special meaning to the locals of the area and is deemed sacred. For that reason alone there is no swimming in this waterfall, although it looks pretty savage. Underneath that pummeling, fall is not a place I would want to get stuck.

A short staircase leads down to a little deck. It’s super slipper and I almost took a huge tumble walking down during this photo!

KROYA WATERFALL

When people talk about this little collection of waterfalls, they often call it Aling Aling Waterfall. However, the other waterfalls aren’t actually called Aling Aling. The first jump of the day was at Kroya Waterfall. It’s nothing crazy, just a 5-meter jump off of a cement platform. Super fun and a great height for everyone!

The force of the falls tends to push you back toward the wall and it can get kind of scary. If you can’t swim really well, throw a lifejacket on just to make your life easier as it really does push you down a lot.

Once you jump at Kroya Waterfall, you swim across to the other side and climb up to the top of the falls. Now it’s time to trust your guide. Lay on your back, cross your arms and slide 10m down the waterfall! It’s almost vertical and has a huge impact when you land. It seemed pitch black and was actually a huge adrenaline rush!

KEMBAR WATERFALL

All of these waterfalls are literally a 10-second walk away from each other, all laid out in the same canyon. After your warm-up at Kroya Waterfall, it is time to make men of the boys. Next up is a 10m jump into the wrath of a double fall. This is what Kembar actually means: Double Falls.

Once again we trusted our guide with where to land. He’s done it hundreds of times so he was of great value and even helped us film some clips on our phones. We sent a few backflips at Kembar as you can see in the video!

You need to jump out quite far so I wouldn’t suggest a backflip here unless you are pretty confident about it. Here’s a photo and a video of me flipping at Kembar Waterfall.

PUCUK WATERFALL

If you survived Kroya and Kembar it is time to really test your bravery. Pucuk is approximately 15m and is a really solid-sized cliff jump. I wasn’t completely convinced about it but I sent a backflip here anyway and managed to land it! My friend Nic did too and I think he broke his rib haha!

He never got it x-rayed but he was in pain for a few weeks. He didn’t even land too bad just a bit of over-rotation. Moral of the story: Pucuk Waterfall is kind of high and there isn’t a huge margin for error.

I like aling aling waterfalls, Whether you want to swim, a jump, or just to view the waterfalls, I highly recommend this. You’ll get a personal guide who is patient and skilled in the art of slow mo videos to take pictures of you. There’s no pressure to do the high jumps ( even though I highly recommend it ) and they’ll provide you with safety equipment. The guys there do the jumps a lot, so know all the good tips. For the price you can’t go wrong! As the sign says “never try, never know”

When is the best time/month to travel bali.

What's awesome about Bali is that it's hot most of the time, making it a destination that can be travelled throughout the whole year. There are two main seasons in Bali: from April to September when it's hot and dry, and from October to March when it gets a little cooler and there's a higher chance of some rain. The tropical showers don't usually hang around for long; they pass through, cool you down, and then the sun comes back out! We run our small group tours in Bali all year round.

How many days in Bali is enough?

We suggest putting aside 2-3 weeks if you’re planning to travel to Bali for the first time alone. There is much to see and do, and you’ll need time to understand how things work as it can get a little tricky with all the different transport options. Our tour in Bali is just under 2 weeks and takes away all the hassles and worries of travelling alone. We’ll handle all the tough/boring stuff, giving you the freedom to enjoy each and every day to the fullest 🙌🏼

Do I need a visa to travel to Bali?

For most travellers, Bali is a very easy country to visit with a simple 'Visa on Arrival' process. There are over 40 countries eligible to travel to Bali through the VOA scheme, and the visa can be obtained on arrival for a small fee. Be sure to do your research as each country/passport can have different rules. It's your responsibility to ensure you've ticked all the necessary boxes to enter Bali hassle-free.

What injections/vaccinations do I need for Bali?

Similar to visas, we are not medical professionals and would hate to give you false or misleading information. We recommend you book an appointment with your doctor or local pharmacy to discuss your travel plans and what precautions you need to be aware of. They will provide up-to-date official guidance and will no doubt have your vaccination and immunisation history on file. Are group tours in Bali worth it? Why would I not just travel solo?

Travelling alone is a big commitment and often requires a significant amount of planning both before you set off and when you arrive. It can be nerve-racking and often very overwhelming. Joining a group trip can remove all those worries and leave you completely worry-free with everything planned for you from the moment you arrive. Our Bali group tours include an airport pickup upon arrival, comfortable hotel/guesthouse accommodation, transport between locations here in Bali, local activities and experiences, and a bunch of meals to get you started.

I am looking to come alone, do many people travel solo?

Yes, absolutely! Most people actually come alone, with there often being a few people travelling together either as friends or as a couple. Our trips are perfect for solo travellers as you'll make friends from the moment you arrive, and you'll have the confidence and security of doing it as a group.

How much money do you need for 2 weeks in Bali?

Once you've booked your flights, paid off your trip and got some solid travel insurance you'll be all set for that Bali adventure. We suggest bringing no less than £300/$400 but this should be the bare minimum. Some people can spend less but the average will be looking at around £400-500/$500-700 to cover shopping, drinks, extra meals and anything else you fancy treating yourself to... maybe a few massages!?

What should I book first, the flights or the tour?

Great question! We always suggest getting the trip locked in first before booking flights. This way, you won’t be left disappointed if the trip goes full and you’ve already booked your flights. There are usually plenty of flight tickets available, but with our trips, the spaces are limited and the trips fill up pretty fast. We suggest booking your trip first, followed by your flight, and then purchasing your travel insurance to cover all eventualities. It’s a good idea to get these three out of the way as soon as possible.

How far in advance do you recommend booking my trip to Bali?

The average traveller typically books their trip 3-4 months in advance, which usually means there are plenty of options when it comes to dates. If you decide to book last minute, be prepared for limited availability. If you have your heart set on a specific date or trip, you should consider placing a deposit right away.

13 Best Bali Swings: From Jungle, Rice Paddies to Waterfalls

Bali swings are famous because they offer a unique, relaxing experience in a beautiful setting. When you're swinging high, you'll get an unparalleled view of the Bali landscape, allowing you to relax in comfort while enjoying the breeze.

The average price to enjoy the Bali swing experience can go from 80,000 to 160,000 IDR, depending on the location. We'll provide the exact costs later on in this article. 

Most of these exciting contraptions are over 9 metres high off the ground! This is about the equivalent of 3 stories of an average building. Furthermore, many of these fun attractions are suitable for kids as long as there is adult supervision. Some places also have experiences ideal for couples who want to enjoy the view together.

Our favourites.

This swing theme park offers some of the most famous swings in Ubud. And they are just a 20-minute drive from Ubud centre. You can choose from several swings, ranging from 10 metres at the lowest to the highest at 78 metres off the ground. It's not scary since you'll be securely seated, but if you fear heights, go for the lowest one. You'll see this place's lush rainforest, waterfalls and rivers. 

This is the first park built in Bali to offer such experiences, and it is the only one with a waterfall view. We like that it is well-equipped and so easy to reach, most taxi drivers would know about it. 

Plus, if you want to take photos for Instagram but have yet to pack many clothes, don't worry. You can also rent long flowy dresses and other props to take pictures while you're there. The park also has plenty of other photo-worthy spots amidst the greenery. For instance, there are nine life-sized nests, and a heart-shaped platform, amongst other unique concepts.

The value of a Bali Swing booking (which includes going on the swings) is 500,000 IDR per person without transport. Add 70,000 IDR if you require 2-way transport from your hotel to the park. Alternatively, you can visit the park without going for the swings, although the price is not quoted on the website.

You can also customise the tour packages. Several tour packages offered include visits to other tourist attractions, such as nearby Ubud temples . All packages include a lunch buffet and drinks. We think it’s worth it to pay for a Bali Swing full package, as you can climb the swings as often as you like. The best time to go here is on a weekday as there are fewer people. Please also note that the maximum weight that these contraptions can handle is about 200 kilos. 

One of our top tips for this spot is to opt for the 2-way transport. This is because if you are to arrange your transport, you may be met by many touts along the way that will promote other theme parks. Your driver might also bring you to a different place despite your instructions. If you do arrange your transport - be firm about your intended destination.

Aloha Swing theme park has the best swings in Ubud if you want a place near other iconic tourist locations. For example, for those who wish to visit the iconic Arjuna Statue, it's only a 20-minute drive from here. The sculpture of Arjuna comes from an epic Hindu legend and is one of the must-see sights of Bali. This great location where you can experience a few things is one of the reasons we'll recommend people head to Aloha. 

The theme park is located in the Tegallalang area, overlooking a stunning view of rice paddies and the Ubud forest. There are five different swings available, and they are at various heights. The lowest at 10 metres off the ground, and the highest is 60 metres. 

Our favourite things about this theme park are its outstanding service and well-explained safety procedures. 

Moreover, the experience is reasonably affordable at 400,000 IDR per person without transport. The package also includes visiting the Bali swings, cute nests and a small butterfly park at the entrance. If there are two of you, take the 500,000 IDR package, which includes 2-way transport from your hotel to the park.

Additionally, if you're looking for a Bali Swing for couples, they have one that comfortably takes two persons if the couple does not exceed the weight limit. The company does not state a specific height or weight limit online, but it's best to enquire first before you book, especially if you're bringing children.

We recommend taking up their photography package when it's offered at the entrance. As we experienced, like many other reviewers, their staff know how to pose for the best angles. Be sure to also rent their beautiful flower crowns, dresses, and other props for your photo taking! When you're done, head to their coffee plantation nearby to sample some free coffee. The best time to go there is on a weekday.

Jungle Swing Bali, also known as Lotus Ubud Swing, is a small theme park in the Tegallalang area. It has lovely views of the rice paddies and a coffee plantation. For those who intend to visit the Arjuna statue, a tourist attraction, it's a mere 20-minute drive. 

Lotus Ubud Swing has four Bali Swings, starting from 5 metres at the lowest to 20 metres at the highest. While it does not offer an expansive view like Bali Swing, we thought the beautiful rice paddies were equally photogenic. Besides, it also has fewer crowds than the rest of the theme parks, so that's a win. 

Additionally, Jungle Swing Bali has installed an authentic Balinese gate complete with an entrance with a pond with stepping stones. This also offered us a unique photo experience. We loved drinking Coffee Luwak (civet coffee) at the theme park, so don’t forget to try it!

The park has packages priced at 420,000 IDR per person, which includes the swing experience. The above Lotus Ubud Swing price includes transportation if you stay in the Ubud area. While this place is one of the smaller parks, it's the best swing in Bali if you want photos without crowds. We suggest you go around 8.30 am to feel the breeze over the rice paddies and sample a cup of the Coffee Luwak brewed on site beforehand.

Tegallalang Rice Terrace Swing is situated amid palm trees and sits on a terraced hillside. The famous Bali Swing at Tegallalang Park is now closed, but you can head for Uma Ceking, a new complex south of the main walking path, also within the Tegallalang Rice Terrace park. 

The beautiful park, with several other Bali Swings, overlooks a panoramic 9-kilometre-long landscape of Bali rice fields . You can also travel and have meals at the park without going for the swing experience. Apart from the swings, there are also zip lines for the adventurous who want to experience the adrenaline rush of zipping in lush greenery. There is no information on height or weight limit.

Over here, you'll find four Bali Swings and nests where you can take photos. You can soar over the valley and take in the widest scenery on the hill's far side. However, note that the swings at Tegallalang use a harness, which can be evident in your photos. The price is 200,000 IDR per pax to take photos on the swings and in various nests. The entrance fee to the Tegallalang Rice Terrace is 15,000 IDR.

If you enter from the main entrance, you'll also find several short single Bali Swings and photographic spots, such as the famous 'Love Bali' sign. We recommend stopping at Tis an Ubud cafe near the top of the rice terraces. It's on the opposite end of Uma Ceking, so you'll need to keep walking north if you want to get there. It has a two-level infinity cafe pool and is a lovely place to relax. Have brunch if you get there early. 

Furthermore, the cafe has a small swing where you can take unlimited photos for 50,000 IDR. Overall, we like this place because it has something for everyone. So whether you're just here for brunch or want the Bali Swing experience, you can get it at Tis Cafe. 

We suggest you go there on a weekday when it is less crowded. As there are quite a few things to see and do here, you might want to prioritise it at the top of your list if you have only one day in Ubud . 

Tegallalang Rice Terrace Swing Raya Tegallalang, Tegallalang, Kec. Tegallalang, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80561, Indonesia

One of the most beautiful Bali Swings is the Alas Harum Swing. It's located 20 minutes away from Ubud Centre. If you love the thrill of flying high above, you'll like that its highest swing is 25 metres off the ground. That's about eight levels of a building. However, it's not for the faint-hearted! There's no maximum height and weight, but the company states that the minimum age is seven and the maximum is 70 on its website. 

Need a Bali swing for couples that's equally nerve-wracking? The park has one that's 20 metres off the ground. If extreme heights are not your favourite activity, go for the other swings about 15 metres off the ground. We also like the hulking gorilla nest carved within the rice paddies! 

What's unique about this place is that it's not just a theme park. It's also a coffee plantation with several activities apart from the Bali Swings. These activities include a sky bike where one can cycle along a zipline, which will excite parkour lovers. 

The park has several options. You can get a package of 250,000 IDR per person, giving you access to three swings and walking around Alas Harum eco-park. Or you can pay separately, but that might get expensive. For instance, the extreme Bali Swing ticket is priced at 200,000 IDR but does not include entrance tickets to the park. 

We recommend getting a package price because it offers no-queuing 'express' options. The park can get crowded over the weekends, so if you don't wish to wait, it's best to get a Bali Swing booking with everything included. 

Alas Harum Swing R aya Tegallalang, Tegallalang, Kec. Tegallalang, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80561, Indonesia

Bas De Atayana has built one of the most famous swings in Ubud, a heart-shaped swing especially for lovebirds. It is as romantic as it sounds. You sit on a bench with a heart-shaped arc over you as you soar over the various plantations. This is also the best Bali Swing for couples. It's also on the way to Mount Batur, so if you're planning to trek up the mountain, stop here for a break. 

Apart from that, it also has nine other Bali Swings that you can try. We loved the spectacular view from the top, but the coffee they sell makes this place stand out. The agro park consists of several plantations, mainly coffee, fruits, and spices. You can try their famous Kopi Luwak (civet coffee), which is brewed from scratch on-site, alongside other coffee flavours when you are there.

Additionally, you can visit the very civet cats that they used to make Kopi Luwak and feed them with fruits. This is an excellent activity if you’re interested in the civet coffee production process or love animals! If trying the local coffee is essential, you must head to Bas De Atayana. 

The best thing about this place is that it does not charge an entrance fee. Instead, you pay about 150,000 IDR to sit on the Bali swings. While they do not have costumes to rent or many nests where you can take photos, the free coffee makes up for it.

Compared to other parks, this spot has one of the best swings in Ubud if you’re looking for a less crowded area. Our tip is to head here after 2 pm when the sun is less bright, and you can take better photos.

This lovely swing theme park in Wanagiri is close to Munduk in northern Bali. The park offers a magnificent view of Lake Tambingan and Lake Buyan. But if you want the rush of being in the air, note that these Bali Swings do not move far. You will not go over the panoramic lakes but hover over them in the background. 

We still enjoyed this park because it has several options for taking Instagram-worthy pictures. They have twelve single Bali Swings, the lowest at 3 metres and the highest at 77 metres. There is no information on height or weight limit. If you have a friend who is scared of heights, pick this place to go since you can choose from several different options. 

Furthermore, they have several exciting photo backdrops. For instance, there is a helicopter and a heart-shaped rock. The nearby lakes' breezy weather also makes for a lovely ambience away from the hot Bali sun.  

The Bali Swing price is 150,000 IDR per person, which includes unlimited swings. While there's no fee to enter the park, you might be asked to give a small donation. The donation goes to the village development. We recommend you go between 11-2 pm to get the best photos from the Bali Swings. Be sure to make time for travel as it takes two hours to get there from Kuta by car. 

Wanagiri Hidden Hills Swing Wanagiri, Jalan Raya Munduk, Pancasari, Kec. Sukasada, Kabupaten Buleleng, Bali, Indonesia

Zen Hideaway is a famous swing in Ubud located in Bongkasa. It is just 30 minutes if you drive northwest of Ubud Centre. However, it's hidden behind coconut trees, so you might miss it. The place is slightly inaccessible but provides lovely views of palm trees, a waterfall and Mount Agung. 

Its swing gives a genuinely breathtaking sight of the Ayung River. We recommend that you try the swing because of the view. But note that there is no safety harness. There is also no information on a height or weight limit. This Ubud Swing price is 300,000 IDR, and you need to sign a safety waiver that waives the management of all responsibility. The place is open only from 12-2 pm, so it's a first come, first serve situation. 

What we love about the place is that it's hidden from the crowds, and you can also stay there. Zen Hideaway is an estate with several properties you can book from Airbnb. It's one of the best places to stay in Ubud because of its open-concept. You'll have a 360-degree view of the forest, even from the bedroom. However, ensure you communicate clearly with the villa's owner before arriving, as the place can be hard to find.

Sidemen is in East Bali. Over here, only one swing is securely tied between two coconut trees. A few nests are scattered around in the middle of the forests. You will witness a picturesque view of the Ayung River, ricefields, hills, and Mount Agung. 

It's the best swing in Bali if you want a quiet, serene spot with fewer tourists. It's a one-hour drive from Ubud Centre, so only a few tourists head there. Besides, you can book a tour package to trek and cycle around the area. Bring your props along, as there's no rental of costumes at this place. The Bali swing price is 500,000 IDR, which includes a welcome drink, a cool towel and a lunch buffet.  

The place is owned by Sidemen Adventures, located in Sidemen Village. The village is well-known amongst the locals for producing palm toddy, also known as 'tuak'. We recommend buying palm wine here since it's the local produce.

Another thing you can buy is traditional dye weavings, known as songket and endek. The village is also famous for these hand-loomed dye weavings, with intricate motifs as designs. We loved shopping for these beautiful batik pieces after visiting the park. We think that weekdays are the best times to go.

Surya Bintang is about 40 minutes from Ubud Centre. The Bali Swings here offer beautiful views of the surrounding jungle, as well as the flowing rivers of Ubud. This is one place to go if you also want to try white-water rafting or quad bike racing (aka ATV biking). Rafting is excellent here as this spot is near the rapid waters of the Ayung River. It's an all-in-one adventure centre! 

There are three types of Bali Swings here that you can try. They start from the lowest height of 15 metres and go up to 80 metres off the ground. So it's perfect for those who want to chase the thrill of going over the Ayung River.  

What we like about this place is that it is one of the few places that offer an all-in-one combo. For instance, you can purchase a Bali Swing ticket, and the price includes rafting down the Ayung River and swing photos. The ticket is 1,465,000 IDR which might be slightly pricier than in other places. But it also includes lunch, drinks, shower amenities and even a 2-way transfer.

We recommend this place if you want to try extreme sports in Bali. Besides, the price also includes insurance. This takes a load off your mind if you need to check whether your travel insurance covers all these extreme sports activities. The only problem is that it's slightly further from the town centre. Therefore our tip is to look for homestay or Airbnb properties, so you're close to the adventure centre. We think that weekdays are the best times to visit the park.

Happy Swing park is located near the Ceking Rice Terraces and just six minutes from the Tegallalang area. They are a small, new adventure park with Bali Swings, so you will not get the usual crowds. However, there is a Bali Swing for couples, beautifully decorated with flowers. The view is equally impressive, even though the park is small. 

We recommend heading for this place to escape the tourist crowd. While it offers fewer options than other parks, there are several photo-worthy spots we like. There is, for instance, an all-white gate in the typical Balinese architecture style and a hot balloon anchored to the ground. In addition, several nests are scattered around the park. It costs 300,000 IDR for unlimited photographs. You can also rent dresses or other props there.

The best thing about this place is that it's relatively unknown now, so you will not get so many tourists in your photographs. It is so quiet on a weekday that we even saw a few digital nomads settling at its reception area to work. We recommend paying the staff to take your photos, as they know the best angles. Go before 11 am, when the sunlight lights up the valley with a gentle glow, for the best pictures.

Here's another outlet with Bali Swings, except that this is the Pioneer centre in Ubud. It's just one minute away from the original Bali Swing centre. The swing heights range from 10 metres all the way up to 78 metres above the ground. 

Why head there? The two Bali Swings here are on a cliffside, so it's an exhilarating experience. The view here is also no less pretty compared to the other centre, with coconut trees, the flowing Ayung River and a deep valley in the background. You can even catch a glimpse of the Tegenungan waterfall. We loved soaring over the beautiful landscape just to see the waterfall! 

The park is also quite expansive. For the price of 370,000 IDR, you can access a romantic Bali Swing for couples and two single ones. There are also two sky beds and several nests scattered around the park. The drawback is that you need at least two people to book a spot. 

Try white water rafting at this adventure centre or head to Tegenungan waterfall in an open-top Volkswagen. The experience of sitting on an old-school Volkswagen was unique! It only takes about 35 minutes to get to the waterfall via Volkswagen. Alongside the scenic drive, the guides will ensure you are having a blast throughout your ride. Indeed an experience we think all our readers can try if they have the time to spare.

Our last recommendation for Bali Swings is at Nusa Penida island. You'll need to take a 30-minute ferry to cross over to this island, but it's worth the experience. There are several resorts that you can visit on the island. The swing itself is in the ocean. There is no information on height or weight limit.

Nusa Penida island is renowned for its white sandy beach and crystal clear blue water. Head to Diamond Beach at the island's east end to look for the swing. This is the only place where you'll get a gorgeous sea view. It's not very high, and you'll also see the green-topped rock formations as you hover above the sea.

We love this swing because it gives a gorgeous sea view. The Bali Swing ticket costs 200,000 IDR, and the staff will help you with the swing. Note that you do have to hike 20 minutes from the beach entrance to reach the place. The walk is guided by ropes in case it gets slippery. 

Apart from the Bali Swings, there is a small nest spot to take photos. Nusa Penida island has other seaside sports where tourists can have plenty of fun. Snorkelling, diving, or just lounging by the beach - it's a tranquil place to hang loose. The hotels and resorts might be pricier than elsewhere in Bali, but they're also more exclusive. If you can spare the expense, we recommend staying at Nusa Penida to pamper yourself.

And now, let's look at our top three favourite places! The first one is Bali Swing (the original one). It offers different kinds of Bali Swings and is effortless to find. So for that reason alone, it makes the most sense if you don't want to waste time looking for the place. For us, It's the best swing in Ubud. 

The second option is Zen Hideaway. While there are few options for Bali Swings, you can stay on-site. The idea of staying in a 150-year-old teak house and waking up to jungle views sounds like an enticing prospect! 

Our third choice is Sidemen. Sidemen is an all-in-one adventure centre to try other extreme sports besides the Bali Swings. Besides, the village has all sorts of local souvenirs, such as palm wine and textiles, making a lovely side diversion. So if you are looking for fun things to do in Ubud , Sidemen is a great place to head towards.

Tiger Woods still doing hard, painful work

Hopes Masters will jump-start once-a-month playing ambitions

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods laughed when asked about the prospect of joining Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson to hit the ceremonial first tee shot at the 88th Masters Tournament.

“No, I have not thought about being a starter here, no,” Woods said.

And yet is it also laughable to think that he could still win this week?

He doesn’t think so.

“If everything comes together, I think I can get one more,” said Woods, 48, who will be paired with Jason Day and Max Homa for the first two rounds at Augusta National. A silence came over the main interview room, and Woods, economical with his words as ever, laughed. “Do I need to describe that any more than that, or are we good?”

Where are we with Tiger Woods? Who is he these days? What is he capable of? It speaks to the dizzying, tilt-a-whirl landscape of professional golf that we have lost track of even him.

If everything comes together … That might be only the second or third biggest if in golf. He still gets out of bed every day intending to do the hard and painful work with his physical therapist. He loves the game too much to quit on it; "Golf is life," to paraphrase Dani Rojas from “Ted Lasso.”

And yet the 82-time PGA TOUR winner, including 15 majors, is a realist. He struggled in his last start, The Genesis Invitational, and withdrew with the flu after completing just 24 holes. More often, he is limited by inflammation and flare-ups that he can’t predict from one day to the next.

“Some days I just feel really good,” Woods said, “and other days, not so much.”

He played in his first Seminole Pro-Member with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh on March 4. (Woods is believed to be the first choice to be U.S. Ryder Cup captain at Bethpage Black next year.) Since then, the Tiger-trackers haven’t had much to work with, but Fred Couples filled up some notebooks after he, Woods and Justin Thomas played the front nine here under cloudy skies Tuesday.

“Can he win here?” said Couples, who himself is battling a bad back. “You know what, yeah. I just watched him play nine holes, and nine holes is only nine holes on a Tuesday, but he never mishits a shot. But the idea of making a (record 24th consecutive) cut, I think he would laugh at that because he's not here to – that's a huge record, but he's here to win. He's here to play really, really hard.

“From what I see – I don't ask him much,” Couples continued. “We always talk about Sam or Charlie (Woods’ children); very rarely, ‘How is your ankle?’ His ankle is bad. We know it. But it looks like he's here, he's going to walk 72 holes, and if he keeps playing like that, he'll be a factor.”

The fused right ankle, which Woods had fixed after withdrawing from last year’s Masters – he had just tied the all-time record with his 23rd straight made cut – doesn’t hurt, he said. Everything else does.

“Every shot that’s not on a tee box is a challenge,” he said of the hilly Augusta terrain.

The 40s are a fraught time for professional golfers, who aren’t yet eligible for PGA TOUR Champions and must rely on defiance, guile and grit as they strain for whatever it was that made them elite. Players of this vintage can surprise – think Kenny Perry, Vijay Singh and Steve Stricker. Think Woods, going off one last time like a long-abandoned firework at the 2019 Masters as he won a fifth green jacket.

More often, though, they get into broadcasting or just look for the nearest unlit exit.

Woods occupies some ill-defined middle ground. His 2019 Masters win was enough to make you believe in transcendence, or at least physical therapy. Injuries from his 2021 single-car accident, though, have limited his recent play. He has not gone four rounds in an official PGA TOUR event since the 2023 Genesis Invitational. At last year’s Masters he was stopped with plantar fasciitis and withdrew. He flew to New York to undergo ankle fusion surgery, which kept him out of PGA TOUR competition until the unofficial Hero World Challenge last December. By this point, we’d lost count of his comebacks.

Buoyed by his ability to get through four rounds at the Hero, where he finished near the bottom of the limited field, Woods stated that he hoped to play once a month in 2024.

That has not come to fruition.

“Well, I wasn't ready to play,” he said Tuesday, when asked about having missed the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, which he’s won eight times, and THE PLAYERS Championship, which he’s won twice. “My body wasn't ready. My game wasn't ready. And I thought that when I was at Hero, once a month would be a really nice rhythm. Hasn't worked out that way.

“But now we have major championships every month from here through July,” Woods continued. “So now the once-a-month hopefully kicks in.”

His body likes the heat, and Augusta is not expected to be as cold and miserable as last year. It’s a start.
