Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 Fairway

Description.

Custom is no longer available for this product

The Extreme Game Improvement Hot Launch E523 Fairway Metal is designed to produce higher-flying shots with extreme accuracy that will transform your fairways into scoring clubs.

This 17-4 stainless-steel fairway features the patented Houdini Sole in conjunction with a super-shallow face, a slice-fighting offset design and heel weighting for added draw bias.

Houdini Sole Technology - The Houdini Sole includes an area of mass concentrated on the trailing edge of the sole of the clubhead, as well as a curved leading edge the face. This unique and patented design allows engineers to precisely position weight in the head for an ultra-low and deep CG, optimizing launch conditions and greatly improving stability.

Heel Weighted Slice-Fighting Offset Design - Offset designs are combined with a heel sole weight to provide the ultimate in slice fighting technology. The offset design of the E523 Fairway added with a heel sole weight   allows the face to square up at impact for straighter ball flight.

Diamond Face VFT - Diamond Face Variable Face Thickness technology is a breakthrough in face technology that features 39 different thick and thin diamond shapes or “mini-trampolines” behind the face. Diamond Face VFT produces a hotter face with faster ball speeds and better performance on off-center hits, as well as reduced spin.

Super Shallow Face Design - The super-shallow Cup Face designs in the Hot Launch E metals are designed for extreme playability and high-flying launch characteristics. These shallow faces produce higher launch angles and extreme ease of launch with extreme forgiveness.

Ultra-Light Premium Shafts - The E523 Fairway comes stock with an ultra-light UST Mamiya HL-SST graphite shaft that ranges from 49 to 65 grams depending on the flex. The UST Mamiya HL-SST shafts feature Stabilized Shaft Tech, a softer tip, and a mid-range flex. Stabilized Shaft Tech is an added cross weave that reduces ovaling for better stability during the loading and unloading of the shaft.

The E523 fairway features a houdini sole which reduces turf interaction and dramatically moves weight low and deep for extreme playability.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Fairway Wood Review – C & E Series

Tour edge hot launch 521 fairway wood.

Continuing our series of Hot Launch 521 reviews, we’re covering the new Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 fairway wood lineup. Just like the rest of the Hot Launch 521 lineup, the fairway woods are offered in two different options – the C series for the more competitive player and the E series for the player looking for extreme forgiveness. Packed with great technology and design concepts that just make the game easier, the Hot Launch 521 fairway woods are easily one of the best values in golf equipment.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Fairway Woods C 4

Standing over the Tour Edge Hot Launch C521 fairway wood, it’s difficult to believe it only costs $150! The C521 fairway wood has a midsize footprint with an excellent profile at address that holds up with any premium competition. Looking down at the crown you see a nice sparkle finish in an otherwise modest appearance. A new Tour Edge Logo as an alignment aid tops off what I believe to be the best looking club in the entire Hot Launch 521 lineup .

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Fairway Woods E 4

From address, it’s pretty easy to tell that the E521 fairway wood is an extreme game improvement (GI) fairway wood. The head is a touch rounder and there is significant offset which adds to the forgiveness. That offset, combined with the heel weight on the sole, make it easier for the face to square up at impact for straighter shots. AKA, take the slice almost completely out of the game. The face is also shallower but has a unique shape as a result of the Houdini Sole, which we’ll discuss throughout the review.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Fairway Wood E 5

How Does it Feel?

These are just a couple of $150 fairway woods, they can’t feel that great, right? Wrong ! The Tour Edge Hot Launch C521 specifically flat out feels incredible. Like the powerhouse EXS 220 fairway wood , the C521 fairway wood has Diamond Face in it which makes the face both forgiving and powerful. These diamonds behind the face act as mini trampolines help increase forgiveness and help the ball jump off faster. Add in the Power Channel on the sole and there’s more flex in the entire face contributing to the added forgiveness as well as speed. This all leads to a bigger sweet spot with precise feedback and an overall hot feel . Additionally, the stock Aldila Rogue is incredibly smooth with plenty of control.

Feel E521 6

Tour Edge went with a Fubuki HD stock shaft for the E521 fariway wood which has a smooth bend profile and easy action. The real magic, however, in the feel of this club is the Houdini Sole. The Houdini Sole delivers two major characteristics that contribute to the E521 fairway wood’s overall feel. First, the Houdini Sole positions the center of gravity (CG) lower and further back (23% and 6% respectively to be exact). While there is more impact in performance, this gives the club head an overall more balanced feel. Second, the Houdini Sole gives the E521 a fairly unique shape that reduces friction with the ground so the club cuts through the turf cleaner and more club face makes contact with the ball. As a result, you experience more ball speed and better feedback at impact.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Fairway Wood C 3

How Does it Sound?

For $150 you will NOT find a better sounding fairway wood than the Tour Edge Hot Launch C521. Diamond Face isn’t the only technology that the C521 inherited from the EXS 220 fairway wood. Tour Edge used acoustic ribbing inside the club head to optimize the sound and feel. Making good contact across the majority of the C521’s face gives you a nice and crisp “crack”.

While it may not acoustically impress as much as the C521, the E521 fairway wood still sounds good. Having a forgiving shallow face, the E521’s tone is a little more metallic and is little more “airy”. I’m not saying it sounds hollow by any means, but the sound is more of a “pop” than it is a “crack” . I want to be clear, it’s a perfectly acceptable sound from a forgiving fairway wood. Especially when you consider how well it performs.

Comp Chart

On-Course Performance

Let me start by saying that the data isn’t fully an apples to apples comparison. Our Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 club setups were built based on sets provided for a match to be played later. We had the C521 in a 17º 4 wood and the E521 in a 16º 3 wood for reviews. Regardless, the relative experiences with the two different clubs was distinguishable.

More competitive players will find the C521 fairway wood to be impressive. The CG is low and back in the head making the club easier to launch and spin a little more to keep it in the air longer. Remember, this fairway wood isn’t draw biased. Since it isn’t draw bias, it’s still easy to shape the ball both directions and hit some missiles with it. Once again, the C521 is a forgiving and incredibly strong performer that you can steal at a mere $150. It’s easily one of the easiest playing fairway woods I’ve ever hit .

Once again, it was the Hot Launch E521 fairway wood that really got my attention. Much like the E521 iron woods , the E521 fairway wood is an absolute cheat code . Getting the ball to launch in the air and stay straight was completely effortless. In my case, slicing the ball was completely out of the question from the offset design and the heel-biased sole weight. All my shots were nice carrying draws to the point I could barely get the ball to fade no matter how hard I tried. Think of who this club is geared for, though. The E521 fairway is built for the player that slices the ball and needs all the help they can get to eliminate that miss. It’s safe to say this one does just that!

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Fairway Wood E 7

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 Fairway Wood

Like the drivers , the Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 fairway woods delivered exactly as advertised. Both of these fairway woods are so good at what they do and only cost $150 brand new! The C521 fairway wood is easy to get flying with very strong delivery across the board. But again, the real story here is this E521 fairway wood. Holy cow…it’s just so easy to launch and keep in play. During our testing, it was almost as if you just had to keep your head down and swing away. The club will do the rest. If you’re a beginner, or just someone looking for as much help as possible hitting your fairway woods better, the E521 is the best answer on the market that I’ve personally seen. Even more so when you consider its ridiculous price point.

Gap between 4 iron and 3 wood

By RLTW83 July 31, 2016 in Member Reviews

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Right now I am having an issue with finding a reliable club for the distance in between my 4 iron and 3 wood.  I currently hit my 4 iron 215 yard and my 3 wood 260.  Obviously, there is quite a break in distance from my 4 iron to the my 3 wood.  I would prefer to stay with Callaway equipment, but if there is something better out there I am open to suggestions.  Again, I would appreciate anyone's help with a recommendation of what 3 hybrid or 3 iron I should purchase to alleviate that distance in my bag.

Respectfully,

Probably best to get a hybrid that gives you about a 15 yard distance gap between it and your 4 iron. A 19* or 20*hybrid should do the trick. Lots of good options out there including the M2 rescue, xr16, big Bertha and others

Curious @RLTW83, which 3 wood do you have? Ever tried 5 wood of same brand?

Few of us are currently testing out the Ping Crossover if you'd like to read up on it.

Hi RLTW83, that's a pretty interesting issue with your gapping. I've got pretty similar distances with those clubs myself - 4-iron is 210yd and 3 wood 250yd. I've been using a Callaway Apex 3 hybrid (20 degrees), which I can hit about 230yd. Personally, I'd consider your options - hybrid, fairway wood or driving iron - before making a decision about what club to put in your bag.

Talk to your local pro golfer as well, as they'd probably have a decent idea of what to do. I'd also consider trying a PING Crossover, as it's a pretty nice long iron addition to the bag as well. Thanks for reminding me BigTazz!!

Doesn't Callaway have an Apex Utility club?

Yes, Callaway has the Apex UT (Utility Iron).

I had a similar issue earlier this year with distances.  I think you need to find what kind of club you hit best.  I had a 3H that I just couldn't hit consistently.  I replaced the 3H with a 5W and couldn't be happier.  I now it the 5W 225-235 and hit it reliably.  For me I found the 5W easier to hit, and easier to work both directions.  I would suggest going out and hitting a utility, hybrid and wood and see what works best for you.  Once you figure that out you can look at brands of clubs and what model.

It's really simple - get the 5 wood to the 3 wood and your gap is filled.

Impressive distances - you're longer than the average scratch player who hits it 255 with the driver.  Great job - what area of your game is your weakness?  I would target working on that once you fill the gap.

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

I got a strong 3 hybrid to fill that gap. 18.5 Adams pro idea. Hit it 235. Perfect gap fill. My yardage gap was the same as yours. I went and did a gap fitting at a local shop. I got a driving 4 iron and 3 hybrid. New gaping:

5 iron: 205

Driving 4 iron: 215-220

3 hybrid: 235

3 wood: 255-260

If you hit the 3 wood well, mother logically you should just go get the 5wood, I would check out eBay as well, and find a 3 hybrid at the same time, some courses you may want the lower flight of the hybrid, but others you may want to fly it higher with the 5 wood. You could also go with the less used 3 iron as well, there really are quite a few options to look at, I would look into all 3 and choose the best one for the day.

I love the 5-wood idea, I use a 5 wood and love it. Adams makes great fairway woods maybe look at their Tight-Lies line. They were a popular sell while I was at Golfsmith. Good luck!

I'll take your word for it. Ignoring the fact that Nike's going out of the golf club industry, there are only a handful of golf stores around Australia that actually stock them, and only 1 store within my general area.

My dad's a big Adam's player, as he's got the irons, wedges and putter from that particular brand.

I play Adams on my driver and hybrid, but the Tight Lies launches too high for me with no roll. I'm by no means as long as OP, but I would guess that with that much SS, the Tight Lies won't do him any good.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

:cobra-small:

I have very similar distances with my clubs. I have a 20* Callaway X2 Hot Pro hybrid, and a 23* Callaway Alpha 815 hybrid. I can't have both in my bag during a tournament so I generally keep the 20* in there.

One thing about this gap, though, is that with my length off the tee with either my driver or 3 metal, I don't use these clubs except for a specific hole on the course where I play, or only on a second shot on a long par 5 to set-up my approach. It's not a gap that is very important for me to worry about. I literally use either of these two clubs, MAYBE, once a month if I'm playing at various courses.

I gap my set from 3 wood (15 degree) to Hybrid (19 degree) before going into my 4-iron.  My yardages are 240 (FW), 220-225 (hybrid) and 205-210 (4-iron).  The hybrid I use is a Tour Edge Exotics CB Pro U.  I've tried a ton of different hybrids over the past few years and this is the longest and easiest to hit IMO.

If you're wanting to stick with Callaway I'd honestly go find an X2Hot hybo.  Those were my favorite that Callaway made.  Long, easy to hit and they looked really nice.  Not a fan of those they have out right now.

If you're open to other brands I'd look at the TEE hybrids (EX9 and CB Pro U), as well as Taylormade M2.

Why is there a problem if your total distance between 3w and 4i is 475 yards. You shouldn't have an issue.

I love my 3 wood and 4 iron but the 3 iron was hit or miss...either I hit it really well or really bad no middle ground.  And hybrids did not agree with me so I tried 5 woods but I was hitting them too far for the distance I was trying to cover...so my fitter suggested a 7 wood and i balked at first but after testing it and seeing the numbers it was an easy choice.  My 7 wood can get out to 225 if needed but a nice easy swing gets me the 210 to 215 I was looking for.  My buddies gave me crap until I striped it and stuck it to 10 feet from 220.

I know this is an old thread, but I'd also suggest a heavenwood. My 4 iron is my 200 club, and my 3 wood is my 230. Heavenwood fits in at the 210-220 range for me, and with the adjustability of being able to change the lofts, I'd be surprised if you didn't find something that fit the yardage you're looking for.

:1590477705_SunMountain:

I play the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo 3 and 5 woods (18° and 15°). The next club is the 4 iron for me too. If you like your Callaway 3w I'd check out the 5w.
