Explore Athens

Quirky vibes. Southern charm.

Athenians like to describe Athens as a small town with big-city amenities. What they mean is no matter what your interests are, you can find people who share your passion. If you like art, Athens is home to Georgia’s state art museum , but it’s also home to galleries where you can volunteer and meet other artists. If you like sports, you can take in a football game at Sanford Stadium or join an adult soccer rec league. If you like music, you can check out big-name bands at the town’s storied music venues or find people to jam with on your back porch.

Arts and Culture

Athens is an artistic hotbed, from its world-renowned music scene, which spawned groups like R.E.M., Widespread Panic and the B-52s, to its multitude of offerings for those interested in visual art, crafts, theater, performance and much more. Catch a concert at one of several legendary music venues, enjoy art at local galleries, or nurture your creative side by taking a pottery class or showcasing your talents at the next open mic night.

The Outdoors Awaits

Located about an hour from hundreds of miles of trails nestled into the Blue Ridge Mountains and great kayaking and fishing, Athens is an ideal home base for those who want to spend their weekends in the wilderness. But there are plenty of places to get outside during the week, including more than 40 miles of natural surface, wooded hiking trails and a 4.5-mile mountain biking course. There’s also a 12-mile and growing network of paved multi-use trails connecting the park system to the university and downtown Athens.

Foodie Destination

Named one of the most Underrated Food Cities in the South by  USA Today , Athens’ food scene can satisfy whatever craving you have, including gourmet and homestyle barbecue, authentic international cuisine and modern twists on Southern classics. With plenty of places to visit in the walkable downtown as well as surrounding neighborhoods, you’ll have a tough time deciding on your new favorite spot.

Appealing and Eclectic

Athens is outstanding by many measures:

  • South’s Best College Town  (Southern Living, March 2022)
  • Coolest College Towns in America  (The Discoverer, 2021)
  • The Most Underrated Travel Destinations in the U.S.  (HuffPost, November 2021)

Georgia football spring game 2024: Schedule, What to Watch For

Georgia returns to the football field for the 2024 spring game. What should you be watching for?

  • Author: James Parks

Kirby Smart has helped turn Georgia into college football's budding dynasty after winning two straight national championships, but after the Bulldogs missed out on the College Football Playoff last year, he's looking to get back to an expanded postseason in search of a third title.

The first step on that long road starts this weekend at Sanford Stadium as Georgia returns to the football field to put a wrap on spring practices with the annual G-Day Game. Here's how, and what, you should be watching as things unfold at the scrimmage.

Georgia football spring game 2024 schedule

When: Sat., April 13 Time: 1 p.m. Eastern TV: SEC Network+

Related: Georgia Football Schedule 2024

Protecting Carson Beck

Georgia's quarterback returns after a very promising effort last year in which he passed for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. Now, the Bulldogs need to make some decisions on how to protect him, in particular at left guard and right tackle.

Smart has placed a heavy emphasis in building depth in the trenches this season, and the return of Xavier Truss and Tate Ratledge are key to the project. Micah Morris and Dylan Fairchild are in play at left guard, and both have played with the first team this spring.

Secondary changes

Georgia lost three starters in the defensive backfield, but notably return safety Malaki Starks and cornerback Daylen Everette. Five-star 2024 recruit Ellis Robinson will contend for snaps at corner, as will Daniel Harris and Julian Humphrey.

Free safety is a position battle to watch with several options to replace Javon Bullard. Dan Jackson, David Daniel-Sisavanh, and JaCorey Thomas bring more experience, but five-star prospect KJ Bolden can add some pressure, as could Alabama transfer Jake Pope.

Bulldogs' backfield

Last year's productive rushing tandem of Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards are gone, but Georgia scored a key transfer in former Florida back Trevor Etienne, a proven SEC talent who scored 14 times the last two years.

But the Bulldogs want to see depth behind him. Roderick Robinson ran for 2 scores and just under 200 total yards last season, and at 240 pounds can add some physicality to Georgia's ground game. Andrew Paul (1 TD last year) is another name to watch.

2024 Masters live stream, watch online: TV coverage, channel, Tiger Woods in Round 3, broadcast schedule

Watch every single shot from the biggest names in golf throughout round 3 at the 2024 masters.

tiger.jpg

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The third day of action at the 2024 Masters is going to be a significant one as Moving Day meets Augusta National with the leaderboard undoubtedly shifting ahead of the tournament's final 18 holes. Two days of pristine golf at the nation's best course remain with the best hoping to finish not just in the money but as high up the leaderboard as possible.

The grounds are filled to capacity with patrons, and they were undoubtedly keen to see how Tiger Woods continues to play after he created Masters history on Friday by making his 24th consecutive cut , a tournament record. Woods also hit 22 of 36 fairways through his first two rounds, his best such mark since 1999.

Though he was on the edge of contention entering Saturday, after shooting his highest nine-hole total in Masters history going 6 over on the first nine, Tiger is now firmly out of contention with some questioning whether he will finish 72 holes at all. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy -- after an extended session on the range Friday night -- shot one of the better rounds of Saturday's early wave. Neither he nor reigning Masters champion Jon Rahm are a threat to those atop the leaderboard.

Far more likely to find the winner's circle is Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 green jacket winner seeking to win his second in three years. Scheffler entered as an overwhelming favorite and sits +100 to win the tournament entering Saturday's third round. He is one of three men tied atop the leaderboard with Max Homa the author of Friday's best performance and Bryson DeChambeau holding steady looking for his second major championship and first since 2020. Who pulls ahead between that trio remains to be seen, but you can follow  2024 Masters leaderboard live updates throughout Round 3  right here and find out.

There is so much to pay attention to this week that it can be overwhelming at times. No worries: We have you covered. On Saturday alone, you can watch the entire first rounds from Woods, McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama and young sensation Ludvig Åberg.

CBS Sports is offering live coverage of the 2024 Masters from start to finish Saturday with our myriad of Masters Live streaming options along with our broadcast from 3-7 p.m. ET. Hit the links below to tune into the Featured Groups channel and watch complete rounds from some of the best golfers in the game, spend your day surveying Amen Corner or view all the action at Holes 15 & 16. Masters TV coverage does not begin until later in the day, so this is the absolute best place to watch the Masters live on Saturday.
