PENNSYLVANIA WINE TOURS - EASTERN PA WINE TOURS
Our president and owner Cathy was born and raised in the hills of eastern Pennsylvania wine country. As an adult, she moved to just outside of the Napa and Sonoma wine regions of California. This is where she gained her appreciation for wine and interest in the wine making process.
Cathy experienced her first wine tour in this region of California and brought the idea back as she explored the many wonderful wineries in eastern Pennsylvania. “I began meeting and developing friendships with the owners and managers which eventually resulted in Pennsylvania Wine Tours.”
At PaWineTours.com we are the go to source for hosting wine tours for groups in the quad regions of the North East PA wine trail, South East PA wine trail, South Central PA wine trail and North central PA wine trail. We are also knowledgeable about off trail and specialty wineries. Being centrally located in Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania allows us to offer tours in all regions of the state yet specifically in this quad region. We are close to the Pocono Mountains and the Lehigh Valley.
PA Wine Tours provides transportation and interesting regional winery information from our base in picturesque Jim Thorpe, PA. Hop onto one of our tours to explore some local Pennsylvania wineries without the worry of driving. Just sit back and enjoy the ride and the wine!
Our PENNSYLVANIA Wineries
Our mission is to plan and conduct private wine tours within these regions based upon a custom needs and desires wish list of each group while promoting locally made wine and support the wineries that make it. We offer VIP treatment that cannot be found anywhere else in Pennsylvania due to our relationships with many Pennsylvania wineries and PA vineyards on the Pennsylvania wine trails.
We continue to develop personal relationships with our wineries in the efforts of further developing our client’s experiences. We know the owners, we know the vintners and we know their wines. These relationships help to ensure a quality experience and a wide variety of wine options to suit everyone‘s taste!

North East, Pennsylvania And The Lake Erie Wine Trail
North East, Pennsylvania and the Lake Erie Wine Trail offer a fun weekend getaway for wine lovers. In fact, visitors from all around the world visit every year. Additionally, the locals are very welcoming and love to meet new friends.
North East is a tiny town on the shores on Lake Erie. It offers charming shops, historic bed and breakfasts, and Lake Erie vistas. However, the wineries are the main attraction.
You can visit this area any time. Naturally, the wineries are open all year. However, autumn is the peak season. From September to November, the concord grapes ripen to their peak. The fragrance fills the air and draws you in…to the nearest winery.
Most certainly, you don’t need to far to find a winery in North East! This Lake Erie Wine Trail town is home to ten different wineries.
The Lake Erie Wine Trail stretches along the shore of Lake Erie. The trail spans from just east of Erie, PA, to North East, PA and 90 miles to Buffalo, New York. Choose from a myriad of wineries as shown below.
Each September, the wine season peaks. Thus, North East hosts their annual Wine Festival. The festival showcases local wineries, musicians, and food vendors. Thousands of people converge to celebrate the harvest of the concord grape.
For in this town, the concord grape is the king of crops. The concord grape is a cool weather grape. It flourishes in the cool summer evenings. Furthermore, the gentle breezes come in from Lake Erie keeping a constant level of humidity. Therefore, the region produces the concord grape in abundance.
For this town, all of this is great news! This means that the wineries are thriving and the tourists are happy.
Tourists flock to North East to visit these wineries. The winery employees are gracious. The vintners are knowledgeable. The atmosphere is fun.
However, most tourists agree that the views are often the best part of their visit to the Lake Erie Wine Trail.
These wineries are set on bluffs, high along the shore of Lake Erie. Of course, you get panoramic views of the vineyards. However, you often get a bonus…a majestic view of Lake Erie.
Additionally, many of the wineries have natural settings including forests and streams. Of course, you are welcome to relax on the private deck and enjoy the views while you sip your wine.
On the other hand, you can enjoy the interiors of these wineries. In addition to gorgeous landscaping and scenic vistas, the interiors are rustic and charming. Often they combine an old world feel with pampered elegance.
Daily tastings and tours are available. Indeed, the tours are fun and informative. Also, the winemakers graciously answer any of your questions.
Finally, you can enjoy tastings of concord grape wine after your tour. The vintners create wine masterpieces. Literally, there is something for every taste. The wineries produce wines from dry to sweet.
In addition, there are plentiful orchards in the area. Therefore, the wineries produce excellent peach, blackberry, and apple wines.
Also, you can pair your wines with cheese trays available for purchase at the local wineries. Naturally, the winery hosts are gracious in educating you on proper wine and cheese pairings. In fact, they love to give you advice.
In summary, if you are looking for a fun fall winery getaway…try North East, Pennsylvania and the Lake Erie Wine Trail. You’ll be glad you did!

Lake Erie Wine Country Series – Western Region
One of the top reasons to visit Barcelona Lakeside Bed & Breakfast is its strategic location in exactly the middle of Lake Erie Wine Country. Reviews from guests frequently comment on how much they enjoyed returning to the inn after a day of touring the wineries, relaxing on the porch or around the fire pit, watching our spectacular Lake Erie sunsets – all while enjoying their newly acquired bounty and the company of other guests.
This series on our regional approach to the Lake Erie Wine Country location wraps up with an area featuring the heaviest concentration of wineries in the region. Our Western Region is primarily in North East, PA, which begins about 15 miles from the inn. The approach this time is to begin with our four partners in our Lake Erie Wine Country Tours and then provide some highlights to the many wineries in this region.
Lake Erie Wine Country – Western Region
From East to West: approximately 25 miles
Arundel – “A dream come true” are the words of the owners of this lavishly restored late-19th century barn settled among vineyards and apple orchards. “Fruit-forward” or a hint of oak flavors can be found in their wines. In addition, as is becoming popular in our region, they are also making craft brews and are promising sparkling cider as soon as the apples are ripe. Summer concerts, Winemakers Dinners, and more, provide lots of reasons to visit these fine folks and their “all in the family” approach.
Lakeview Wine Cellars – Sam and Becky and their dog Cabernet are wonderful hosts to visitors of their winery with breathtaking views of Lake Erie and the surrounding countryside. Home winemakers for 30+ years, they turned their passion for making wine into an eco-friendly farm, with a tasting bar of all glass, covering shells, sand and stone from beaches all over the U.S. – from Florida to Hawaii. This estate winery produces wine aged in Pennsylvania white oak barrels that imparts the clean “oakey” flavor without any bitterness. Bring a picnic lunch and savor the scenery at this beautiful spot.
Courtyard – This amazing winery is all about branding. They offer two distinctly different tasting areas – La Courette, featuring both dry and semi-dry white and reds that fits right in with the Mediterranean inspired décor, and Barjo Bons, literally translated “crazy friends,” which features sweet and semi-sweet reds and whites under a fun neon sign that is frequently the back-drop for tasters’ “selfies.” Their barrel room is often the location for winemakers’ dinners and they have an abundance of items in their gift shop. This is a fun place to visit!
Presque Isle – Enjoy lunch at the Isle House café after enjoying some wine tasting inside the converted home. Doug takes a serious approach to viticulture and has experimented with over 200 European and hybrid grape varieties to see which ones would grow here along Lake Erie. The property is beautiful with picnic tables, a waterfall, and wooded creek. Appealing to a wide variety of palettes, there is something for everyone including port, sparkling and dessert wines. A “ must-stop” on anyone’s tour.
In addition to our four partner wineries there are nine other wineries to spend time in:
- The Mazza family that owns 5&20 mentioned in our Central Region also operates their main winery Mazza Vineyards, and South Shore Wine Company which boasts a beautiful and unique Civil War-era stone cellar.
- Arrowhead Winery at Mobilia Fruit Farm with a beautiful gift shop
- Heritage Wine Cellars with a focus on native American varietals
- Penn Shore Vineyards, one of the first wineries in Pennsylvania hosts Music in the Vineyards concert series during the summers
- Burch Farms and Blueberry Sky wineries that feature predominantly fruit wines – many for cooking
Book one of our Lake Erie Winery Tours –
$30 per couple includes complimentary tastings at up to four wineries, one complimentary bottle of wine at one of the wineries, a Write it Down© journal for keeping track of your tasting experiences, and a complimentary dessert at participating restaurants. Full retail value of over $60.

Where the 50-year legacy began
Mazza Vineyards, nestled along the shores of Lake Erie, is the Mazza family’s flagship location. The winery was founded and built in 1972 by brothers Robert and Frank Mazza in a rustic, Mediterranean style serving as tribute to the family’s Italian roots.
Drawing inspiration, experience, and technique from a lineage of international winemakers hailing from Germany, Portugal, Argentina, and beyond, their clean, experimental New World approach to winemaking has resulted in a fascinating wine list that ranges from crisp and pristine to robust and fruit-forward.
Check out our visitor FAQ’s for more information prior to your visit!
While our wine list continues to evolve, there is a consistent collection of staples that we’ve continued to produce and perfect from our founding in 1972.

The successful growing climate for grapes earned Lehigh Valley the label “American Viticultural Area," catapulting the region’s wines and vineyards into the (wine) light. An AVA is a federally designated wine grape-growing region in the United States, providing an official appellation for the wine produced in a region. Think: Napa Valley or Willamette Valley, those are AVAs and Lehigh Valley is one of them! Established in 2008, the area covers over 230 planted acres and includes over 30 wineries.

Picture this: you're sitting outside with views of vineyards before you, a glass of wine in your hand and an Atlantic breeze in your hair. Sound ideal? With its cooler climate conditions, regional growers tend to specialize in French-American hybrid grape varieties such as Seyval, as well as sparkling wine, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. However, the number of vineyards are always growing and varieties expanding—today you can even find well-received Merlot and Cabs.
That means whether you’re a fan of red, white or sparkling, our list of recommendations for the best wineries in the Northeast will have something for everyone. Squeeze in a trip to one of these spots after an adventure glamping or settling into a nearby cozy cabin . A day with wine is never wasted.
An email you’ll actually love
Scenic wineries in the Northeast
1. Bridgehampton, NY: Channing Daughters Winery
Across the 28 acres of Bridgehampton, land that make up this destination, about 50 percent of grapes are sourced locally in an effort to produce about 14,000 cases of wine a year. All across the estate, expect to gaze in wonder at the artwork on display, made by owner Walter Channing. Our favorite: a 40-foot pencil that looks straight up to the sky. Sip wines by the glass or opt for a themed tasting to try a curated selection of the two dozen varieties grown onsite. Walk-ins are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, but reservations are encouraged (and open 14 days in advance).
2. Stroudsburg, PA: Mountain View Vineyard
In 2009, Randy and Linda Rice gave up their day jobs in teaching and pharmaceutical sales to set up their very own winery in the Pocono Mountains—a gamble that proved to be an excellent decision. It took years of toiling to have enough grapes to start their business. Over a decade later, the couple presides over a 100-acre farm with thousands of vines and scenic views for days. They moved into a new building in 2017 with a more expansive tasting room and wraparound porch, a perfect spot to take in vineyard views. The destination also happens to be a brewery and distillery—in case your taste buds are craving something beyond the delicious wine on offer.
3. Chadds Ford, PA: Penns Woods Winery
Gino Razzi left his home in Abruzzo, Italy to settle down in Delaware County, Pennsylvania back in 1962. After joining the Marines and going to college, he became a successful wine importer and, eventually, a crafty winemaker. In 2004, he purchased this particular winery and has been producing delicious bottles of award-winning sauvignon blanc, viognier, Moscato rose, pinot noir and other varietals from this location ever since. We suggest enjoying a glass (or three) while nibbling on a cheese tray and listening to live music on the beautiful property. Walk-ins are accepted but not guaranteed; reservations are highly encouraged for this popular spot.
4. Southold, NY: Sparkling Pointe
Earning 90+ scores for its wines from Wine Spectator , Sparkling Pointe produces some of the most praised wines within the North Fork of Long Island American Viticultural Area. The winery focuses on sustainably producing Méthode Champenoise sparkling wines exclusively through a pretty incredible processing system that yields 3,000 bottles per hour. The Grand Tasting House is fit for a celebration with bubbly—think crystal chandeliers, soaring ceilings and bright white fixtures. Other places to sip include the VIP Bubble Lounge and outdoor terrace overlooking the expansive lawn.
5. Peconic, NY: Lenz Winery
Peter & Deborah Carroll bought opened Lenz in 1988 when the Long Island wine community had less than 10 players. Now, that community has grown, yet this 70-acre estate is still one of the most memorable experiences in the area. Expect plenty of outdoor space and live music on certain nights, plus top-notch Merlots, Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons. You can even reserve a picnic table and bring your (leashed) dog along. The winery can get popular, especially on weekends, and reservations are encouraged.
6. Westport, MA: Westport Rivers Winery
At 80 acres, this is the largest vineyard in New England—with scenic views to match its expansive territory (it is New England, after all). Set along coastal Westport, this winery specializes in Vinifera grapes since the 1980s. Grab a glass while perusing the vineyard and then grab a seat on an Adirondack in the beautiful public area before heading to the on-site food truck for some delicious fare. No reservations are required as there is plenty of space—you can also feel free to bring your own chairs or blankets. To top off the visit, may we suggest trying the top-notch Methode Champenoise sparkling wine?
7. Haverhill, MA: Willow Spring Vineyards
This green facility is equipped with geothermal heating and cooling plus a photovoltaic system (read: solar panels). You'll likely notice the beautiful 18th-century barn while driving in the area and, upon entering the 25 acres of land, opt to enjoy some wine while sitting on the wrap-around deck or in front of the majestic hearth. You can sign up for a tasting or choose your own glass sourced from the two acres of vines on the property. Sit back, relax and revel in all that is this stunning winery.
8. Cutchogue, NY: Castello Di Borghese
Did you know that Long Island's East End microclimate is comparable to the Bordeaux region of France? It makes sense, then that the wines are top-notch. Before becoming Castello Di Borghese, this winery was first the site of Hargrave Vineyard, Long Island’s oldest vineyard that was founded in 1973 and opened up a new industry that's now expanded to 50+ vineyards. Philadelphia couple Ann Marie and Marco Borghese took over and changed the winery's name in 1999. Today, their children have taken over operations to continue the legacy. Make sure to visit for the perfect spot to settle down with a glass while taking in the luscious views.
9. Shelburne, VT: Shelburne Vineyard
Sit on the expansive patio of this Vermont winery, in operation for over two decades. The beautiful landscape—the mountains, rivers, lakes and valleys—inspires the flavors produced on site, including classic and modern wines. Opt for a self-guided tasting, sip wine by the glass or bottle or pair it all with fresh local produce. You can even visit the on-site tasting room.
10. Ringoes, NJ: Unionville Vineyards
Multiple vineyards make up this overall scenic property in New Jersey, also equipped with a tented patio overlooking four separate gardens and a landscape view of the Amwell Ridge Vineyard. You can book a tasting for up to four guests at a time to enjoy delicious wines by the glass, an experience you can also partake in while visiting the picnic grounds with Dibruno Brothers cheeses and salumi in hand (they're available for purchase on site). Walk-ins welcome.
11. Westminster, MD: Old Westminster Winery
The countryside at Carroll County is a welcome sight for sore eyes and it's most readily enjoyed at this local chic winery. The rotating seasonal wines and live music make the experience that much more enticing. Choose between the tasting room and the outdoor farm spaces while sipping on your wine of choice. We are partial to the Chardonnay but there are plenty of options to choose from. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
12. Dunham, Quebec City: Vignoble de l’Orpailleur
When talking about the Northeast and wines, we would be remiss not to include Quebec City’s Vignoble de l’Orpailleur, in operation since 1982. As one of the pioneers of Québec winemaking, the winery leaders have more than 40 years of experience navigating the marginal climate of the region to create 10 award-winning wines. You should try as many wines as possible but don't miss their signature bottle: L'Orpailleur Blanc, a blend of Vidal and Seyval grapes. Bonus points for a visit: The on-site restaurant, Le Tire-Bouchon, offers a country setting with a menu that pairs local produce and products with L'Orpailleur wines.
