  • Upper River Rafting

Our Most Popular Trip!

The longest trip on the Pigeon River – 1.5 miles longer than any other rafting adventure! Take an exciting 6.5 mile ride down class 3 and 4 rapids!

On our Upper River Trip, our certified guides will navigate your raft the entire trip, sharing their love of splashing through big waves, maneuvering around rocks, and enjoying the beauty of being in the great outdoors. Big waves, big drops and plenty of surfing will assure that you have the time of your life.

On your trip, you’ll get to run about 70 rapids ranging from class 1 to class 4. But, never fear, the Big Pigeon River is for the inexperienced and experienced paddlers. Don’t worry Mom, we’re gonna take good care of you and the kids.

How long will I spend on the river? Approx. 1.5 – 2 hours. Please note: Trip time may vary with water levels and natural conditions. Who can go on this trip? All rafters must be at least 8 years of age or weigh at least 70 pounds. Do I have to make a reservation? Strongly recommended!

Please note that scheduled whitewater-level releases begin Memorial Day weekend and end Labor Day weekend.  Before and after this period, water levels are dependent on natural conditions, are variable, and unpredictable.

Our guests love our guides, group getaways, pavilion. playground. food truck*., what our guests are saying.

We had a fantastic time very professional business our Guide was Justin! He was amazing, very knowledgeable, social and a joy to be around really made the trip fantastic thank you again Justin! We learned a lot and plan on coming again in the future!

My husband and I had the BEST time this weekend rafting the Upper Pigeon River in Tennessee. Benny, our raft guide, was awesome! He made sure everyone was comfortable, felt safe and had a blast! I can't say enough good things about the company. It's a top-notch organization and all of the employees are very knowledgeable and super friendly!

We had a great time on the Upper Pigeon White water Rafting trip! We had 7 of us, so we filled our own boat. Our guide, Karla (aka HR rep ;) ) was hilarious and energetic and made us feel confident in our abilities. We still felt safe with the safety equipment and the response from the other guides in other boats was amazing.

The rafting trip was excellent and our guide - Carla - was the best. We have done several white water rafting trips in various parts of the country but this one was among the top. Carla was hilarious, but always serious when it counted and was clearly in control of the raft throughout the trip, which created a calm for all of us in the raft.

TESTIMONIALS

upper pigeon river rafting trip from hartford

"We will be back!"

"We had a fantastic time! There are a lot of rafting companies in the area but Big Creek is definitely top of the line. They have a beautiful outpost and shower/bathroom building. Wayne, our guide, was fantastic and very engaging with us. Will definitely be back! If you are in the area this is the experience to have."

"Outstanding Experience"

"My 15-year old son, my sister, and our 14-year old cousin chose the Upper River rafting trip while the rest of our family went on the Lower trip. To say we were nervous is an understatement! None of us had ever rafted before, but after the safety briefing led by Fish, along with his jokes to loosen up the crowd, we felt much better. Our guide, Chewie, was outstanding! He's been rafting for 39 years and settled our nerves more with his knowledge of the river. This rafting experience was amazing and fun! If we're ever back in this are of TN, we'll definitely be going back to Big Creek Expeditions!!"

"Fantastic Experience"

"We had such a fantastic experience with Big Creek Expeditions! The check-in process at their outpost was incredibly easy and smooth. The shop has lots of merchandise to choose from and their restroom/changing building was very nice. Our guide was Jedi Mike, and he was awesome! If we are back in the area, we will definitely book through them again!"
