Aldi Diaper Review: Are Little Journey Diapers Any Good?

Aldi diaper review : are little journey diapers any good.

Parents are looking for information on more store-brand diapers, so I’ve put together this Aldi diaper review to answer your questions!

Low-cost grocery store Aldi launched its Little Journey line of baby products in the summer of 2016. Although it’s been around for some time, parents like you want to know about the quality of Little Journey diapers, and for good reason. Diapers, along with formula, are expensive! Your baby will use thousands of diapers before potty training,  so every penny makes a difference!

Aldi diaper review summary

aldi diaper review - front of diaper

Overall, Aldi diapers are good for store brand diapers. They absorb well, fit well, and have wetness indicators. That is to say, they will work just fine for most children.

However, if your child is prone to diaper rash, diaper blowouts, or diaper leaks, I recommend investigating a name-brand or specialized diaper for your child’s needs

Little Journey diapers are less soft than name brand diapers like Huggies and Pampers. But the softness is similar to the softness of other store brand

Wetness Indicator

little journey diapers review

Aldi diapers do have a wetness indicator that’s visible on the front and back. Like many other diaper brands, it starts out yellow and turns blue when it gets wet. This feature is helpful for infants who need frequent diaper changes.

Waistband

aldi diaper review- waistband

Like most store-brand diapers, Little Journey diapers do not have an elastic waistband. This is usually fine for most babies, but if your baby has diaper blowouts, try a brand like Huggies or Costco to keep the mess contained!

Leg cuffs help keep the diaper snug against your baby’s thighs and prevent leaks. The leg cuffs on Aldi diapers are pretty sturdy. My daughter did not have any leaks out the legs even when wearing them overnight!

Aldi diaper review- Fit

little journey diapers review

Aldi diapers are very bulky! They are even longer than Huggies, which are sort of baggy to begin with! The Aldi diapers will hang down more between your child’s legs. This isn’t necessarily a problem, but is one of the downsides to a store brand diaper.

Check out this separate in-depth review of Target’s Up and Up Diapers !

Size up indicators

Little Journey diapers do not have size up indicators like other brands such as Target’s Up & Up, Pampers, and Huggies.

Size up indicators are a useful feature that let parents know when their baby is ready to move up a size. However, you can tell when to change diaper sizes without the indicators. Check if the diaper leaves red marks on your baby’s stomach, back, or legs. This means the diaper is too tight, and it’s time to change sizes. Or, if your baby’s diaper tends to leak, it may mean the diaper is too small and time to go up a size!

Diaper Tabs

little journey diapers review

Like some other store brand diapers, Aldi diaper tabs leave a lot to be desired. The only sticky-velcro part is the area between my two fingers, which is about a quarter of an inch wide!

That being said, I did not have any issues with my daughter pulling off the diaper, or the diaper falling off.

Aldi Diaper Review- Absorbance

Time for the fun science test! I mixed some green food coloring with water, and poured it into the diaper 1/4 cup (60 ml) at a time to see how much it would absorb!

little journey diapers review

After about four cups of water, the diaper stopped absorbing water quickly. It would puddle up on top of the diaper or in between the leg cuff and the diaper pad, and then soak up after a few seconds.

little journey diapers review

After 5 cups of water, the Little Journey diaper was full!

But what does that mean?

Aldi diapers are not particularly absorbent compared to other brands. I’ve tested a number of brands, like Target’s Up & Up diapers, and they hold much more water- 7 cups for a size 5! That’s 29% more.

That being said, does it really matter? Will your kid ever pee 5 cups worth before you change their diaper? Probably not. But if your kid pees a lot at night, you may want to use Aldi diapers during the day and another, more absorbent brand, at night.

Are Aldi diapers good?

Aldi diapers are as good as other store brand diapers, like Target and Walmart. They do not have all the features of Pampers or Huggies . But they work for many babies, and are cheaper than name brands.

Conclusions: Aldi diaper review

Aldi’s Little Journey diapers will work well for most babies. Similar to most store brand diapers, Aldi’s diapers are low cost but lack premium features like an elastic waistband, size up indicators, and extra absorbency.

If you are still on the fence after reading my Aldi diaper review, I recommend buying a small package of Aldi diapers, which are typically around $8-10. Use them during the day and see how they work for your child.

Aldi Diapers Review: Should You Try “Little Journey” Diapers?

Aldi’s “Little Journey” Diapers Review: Are They Worth It?

Can you really keep baby happy and healthy with cheap Aldi diapers?

Image of the Aldi Diapers

As mom’s we have all done it. Tried to save a few dollars by purchasing the store brand of something, only to take it home and find out that it sucks. Terribly . I remember one time I bought the generic Oreos because they were $2 cheaper a package. When I got home and my husband and daughter saw them, you would have thought that the world had ended. Nobody would eat them, and the next day my husband went and bought the real deal, full price and all.

On the other hand, every once in a while you discover a gem in the generic section. For example, our local grocery store has their store brand of barbeque sauce that is better than any other kind. AND it’s less than a dollar for a bottle. SCORE! When I first heard about generic Aldi’s diapers, I was thinking they would be more like the generic Oreos, but I was shocked to find out that they really are pretty decent diapers! There are a few issues with them, but nothing that the big brand diapers don’t have complaints of too.

Do Aldi Diapers Meet Your Diaper Needs?

Image of the Aldi Diapers

If you have babies, or children that used to be babies, you know the importance of a good diaper. They need to have no funky diaper smell to them, prevent leaks and rashes, stay dry through the night (if you are lucky enough to have a baby that sleeps through the night!), stay closed, and be cheap. Sounds impossible right? Well Aldi’s Little Journey diapers pretty much meet all of those standards, which is awesome.

If you don’t know what smell I am referring to, then you must not use Pampers diapers. It’s this cheap baby powder like smell that doesn’t remind you of a clean baby the way that actual baby powder does. I don’t notice the same smell from Huggies diapers or from the Little Journey diapers. And being pregnant right now, I smell EVERYTHING.

The Little Journey diapers do not have that smell to them that drives me crazy. They don’t really smell like anything at all, which is fantastic!

A diaper is made for keeping stuff inside, right? That is it’s one true purpose. So a diaper that leaks is a failure. Diapers can leak for many reasons. It can be too full, loose fitting at the top or around the legs. Little Journey diapers claim that they have 12 hours of no leaks. And is it true? Well, to be honest, I wouldn’t know because I don’t go 12 hours without changing a diaper. But they don’t leak during a normal day of diaper changes, including naps.

Many people complain that these diapers are too thin and that they have more of a plastic/papery feel to them than other diapers. I don’t think that there is really a problem with that as long as they work. For those babies that have leaks in the name brand diapers, you will probably still have a problem with leaks in these as well. If you are lucky like me though and don’t have a problem with leaks normally, then the Little Journey diapers are fully functional and impressive.

Diaper rashes. We’ve all had experience with them. There is nothing worse than changing a diaper on a little one with a rash. The Aldi’s diapers are infused with Vitamin E and Aloe to help protect the skin. However, because they are thinner, they don’t seem to pull the urine away from your baby’s bottom like other diapers. Also, they aren’t as soft as Pampers Swaddlers .

If you are using these diapers, I would just suggest changing your baby’s diaper pretty often. Also, if they already have a rash, I would definitely use a barrier rash cream with every diaper change and I would probably use something that does pull the pee away from the body, like Huggies or Pampers. (A little lesson from a nurse. Pee and poop have enzymes in them that break down skin. If they are left against the skin, you get a diaper rash. If the pee isn’t being pulled away from the skin and into the absorbent part of the diaper, then it is easier to get a rash in a shorter amount of time.)

Stay Dry Through the Night

I am very lucky to have a 19 month old that sleeps like a champ through the night, which is around 11 hours. Normally he wears Huggies through the night. Probably once or twice a week he does have some leakage around the diaper, but it is very minimal. There will only be a tiny amount on his pajamas, not even enough to have to change the sheets.

I would not suggest using the Aldi’s Little Journey diapers overnight because of the fact that they are thinner and they don’t pull the urine away as much. If the brand name diapers leak for me, then I don’t think that the Aldi’s brand would be any better. Also, I don’t like going that long not changing his diaper if the pee is just sitting against his skin.

Stay Closed

Picture this: Your baby is playing in the living room. You get up for a minute or two and came back to him diaper-less and poop in his hands. If you haven’t actually seen it in real life, it’s coming eventually. The Little Journey diapers do stay closed and they have a stretchable waist as well as side panels that stretch to close perfectly around your baby’s tummy. The sticky part is actually sticky and won’t open up when they are playing or running around.

Hint: If your baby is prone to taking their diaper off, keep underwear on over it and pants. I know if may sound like an obvious plan, but I had to learn that one the hard way.

Great Price

Diapers add up so very quickly. Especially is baby gets a rash or is eating and growing a lot, you may go through up to 10 diapers per day! So let’s do some quick diaper math. Let’s say you currently spend $0.25 cents per diaper and buy a pack of 104 big brand diapers. You use 9 diapers a day, so you are spending $2.25 a day . That adds up to roughly $67.50 a month . Then you go buy yourself a pack of 96 Aldi diapers and pay only $0.13 per diaper. For 9 diapers, your cost is $1.17 a day and $35.10 a month . In a year, that adds up to almost $389 in savings . If you have multiple children in diapers, saving that much is awesome!

Currently, I use Amazon and subscribe monthly to diapers. I have enough items that I subscribe to each month so that I can get a discount, plus it is delivered to my house and I don’t have to go anywhere to get them. I also don’t have to watch the sales for when they are cheaper. Even with the discount that I get, the Aldi’s diapers are half the price of Pampers and Huggies . Although the number of diapers that they sell in a package are less than other brands, the price per diaper is half the cost.

More About Aldi Diapers

Image of the Aldi Diapers

If you don’t know what Aldi’s is, you must live under a rock. Seriously . This grocery chain that originated in Germany has been in the United States since 1976 and has close to 2,000 stores nationwide. They have a no-frills shopping experience which includes no grocery bags, only a few people working, and require you to pay a refundable quarter in order to use a buggy. Their prices are amazing and they have many generic products, some good and some bad. But their generic diapers, called Little Journey diapers, are something to rave about.

The Little Journey diapers, just like the big brands ,come in sizes Newborn all the way up to size 6. They also have training pants size 3t to 4t. The regular packs vary in count from 23 to 50 per package depending on the size while the club packs range from 60 to 96 per package. The diapers seem similar to Luvs and Target’s Up and Up brand, although they are even cheaper.

The Least You Can Do is Try Them

Aldi’s has a fabulous return policy . If you buy the diapers and don’t like them, you can return them to the store. The store’s website says:

A replacement or refund will be offered for non-food ALDI find items, alcohol, national brands, or non-quality related issues.

(On a side not, who returns alcohol? I have tried their cheap wine there before and it should come with an individual packet of Tylenol for the headache it will cause the next morning.)

Overall Recommendation for Aldi Diapers

I like the Little Journey diapers for certain uses. I don’t think you should use them for the following:

  • Newborns (I would use the Pampers Swaddlers because they are softer and because their skin is so sensitive at that age)
  • Babies with sensitive skin or current rashes
  • Overnight (I would stick with a thicker diaper. They also make Huggies Overnights for babies that pee a lot.)

For diapers that work better in these situations, check out our best diaper article.

Aldi diapers are best for the following:

  • During the day when you change their diaper frequently
  • For babies with normal skin and no rash

Using big brand diapers and Aldi diapers might be a little inconvenient. But consider the savings if you use one brand name diaper overnight and then use Aldi diapers for daytime.

FAQ’s

How much do diapers cost.

Although the price range varies by brand and model (even by week) average cost for a diaper is $0.20 or 5 for a dollar. The bigger the diaper, the greater the per-diaper cost, of course. See the diaper cost calculator .

Are Aldi diapers hypoallergenic?

Yes, Aldi’s Little Journey diapers are hypoallergenic.

How many diapers will a newborn use?

On average, about 10 diapers per day, 70 per week, 300 per month.

How do you determine diaper fit?

First, check the weight ranges given on diaper packages and buy the size that most nearly matches your child’s weight (erring on the larger diaper if your child is on the margin). The installed diaper should rise to just below the umbilical cord or belly button. There should be some give in the elastic around the legs and waist; still the diaper should fit snugly to avoid leaks. If you see red marks around your child’s waist or legs, the diaper is almost certainly too small.

Are pull ups more absorbent than diapers?

No guarantees here, but they should be similar in absorbability, since they are made of the same materials. The primary difference is a more flexible fit around the waist, to allow your child to pull the diaper up and down for potty training.

What’s a good overnight diaper?

There are several good options, but Huggies OverNites, Pampers Pure, Pampers Baby Dry, and Pampers Overnight Swaddlers are three good name-brand options.

As pretty much everyone in the world knows, diapers are expensive. Even if you don’t have children, your parenting friends have probably casually mentioned this to you at least a thousand times over the course of conversations that have nothing to do with babies or finances. Unfortunately, they are also completely necessary. As tempting as it might be to tape a plastic bag to your child just to save a few bucks sometimes, that’s obviously not a logical (or hygienic) approach. (Can you imagine the looks on the faces of stunned parents as you whipped out a tape gun and plastic bag in the changing station of your local mall? Come to think of it, that could be a funny public skit idea…)

Of course, there are alternatives—the main one being cloth diapers—but those require higher upfront costs and ongoing maintenance (constant washing), not to mention the learning curve of figuring out which of the half-dozen different kinds of cloth diapers will work best for you. There’s a big reason disposables are the most popular kind of diaper on the market, and it’s the same reason most things become popular: convenience. People are lazy, and no one wants to deal with extra loads of laundry every couple of days. At least, I know I don’t.

It shouldn’t come as much of a shock that Aldi’s Little Journey line, which showed up in stores literally two months before we had our little guy back in 2016 (I swear they plan their product lines around us half the time!) offer some of the most “inexpensive” diapers on the market, even besting the prices of those in some membership clubs. But as we also know, price is only half of the equation: a good price just isn’t a good deal if a product sucks. So how well do Little Journey diapers perform? Let’s take a look!

"Animal" print design of Little Strides Baby Diapers, from Aldi

Just to reinforce parenting stereotypes, I’m pretty laid back when it comes to most aspects of parenting. My wife, on the other hand, is the polar opposite of me: This is the woman who refused to take our son ice skating at two years old because she was afraid he would fall too many times and hurt himself (actually, when you’re a kid, falling and sliding on the ice is the best part anyway, and I swear kids don’t feel pain when they’re having fun). She’s also the reason why I had to literally wait until she left the house to change his diaper for the first time when he was three months old, because she was afraid I would do it wrong. (Aww, her heart’s in the right place.) Needless to say, she’s also the type that has to make sure all of his clothes are carefully coordinated to match, down to the socks, any time we go out in public.

For these reasons, I just give her free rein to decide every aspect of the products she uses on our child, from wipes, to lotions, to shampoos and soaps—and of course, diapers are included in that bunch. Thanks to a baby shower, we had quite the stash of various name brand diapers to test out, and after going through those, she bought even more brands to try, attempting to find the perfect mix of performance and value. It probably wasn’t until some time after the six month mark that she even gave Little Journey diapers a try, hesitant that they would cause some kind of rash, or constant blowouts. As such, this review also blends her perspectives along with my own to give you a more accurate, thorough examination.

Let’s just say after she was finally willing to give them a shot, we haven’t gone back to using anything else (except for the odd “emergency situation” where they were out of stock, or whatever.)

Now that’s not to say they are her favorite diaper overall, or that they are even the “best diaper” on the market…and probably not by a long shot. She prefers the more “natural” brands, that “naturally” cost twice as much (or more!) than other disposables. You know, the ones with names and packaging that look like they’re trying too hard to convince you that they are worth the price increase, because piss and shit looks better in their diapers, or something. However, when cost is factored in, she finds that Little Journey offers the best balance between the two: blowouts and leaks are rare (and generally only happened when we needed to go up a size), they have never broken out his skin, and they can hold a lot (how can such a little person have so much waste?), arguably the three most important features of a diaper. Leaks have occurred a few times overnight, but not enough to where it’s any sort of ongoing problem (and could also be from user error, or extra liquid intake the night before), they are very stretchy and easy to put on (as most are) and seem to be comfortable for him, as he’s never complained or acted like they bother him. The light animal designs are also cute, and make them a little more “fun” than a plain diaper would be.

Interior of Little Journey Small Strides Baby Diapers showing off the leakguard

The only downside I can think of (aside from the occasional leakage) is that these don’t have the color-changing “wetness indicator” strips that other brands have (though maybe that’s why they’re cheaper?). My wife was disappointed to learn these were without, but has easily adapted to where she no longer misses it. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, it’s really kind of a pointless feature—how hard is it to tell if a diaper is full of piss or not?–but it can be nice to have in certain rushed situations and save you from wasting a diaper by changing one that doesn’t really need changed.

Onto the value: Aldi offers their diapers in two case sizes: soft packs, which surprisingly come in soft packs, and club size, which are larger and come in boxes. Curiously, club packs are only offered beginning with size 3 and up through 6, though I guess from their limited-inventory standpoint that makes some sense as babies seem to grow quicker in their early years (we had to give away several packs of newborn and size 1 diapers that we had received because he outgrew them so quickly). However, the price for all soft packs (with varying numbers of diapers in each) are $4.99 in our area, while the larger club packs offer almost three times as many for $10.99—even at size 6 where you only get 60 diapers per box, that works out to just $.18 per diaper! (Keep in mind that pricing varies by region, so your stores might be more or less expensive.)

If you’re a parent looking for ways to cut some costs–and unless you’re a rich prick, you should be–the whole Little Journey’s line offers up some great products for your little one, and at great prices to boot; their diapers are no exception. A reminder if you’re still a little hesitant about having your baby soil an unknown brand of diaper, remember that you really don’t have anything to lose thanks to Aldi’s money-back satisfaction guarantee!

Overall: 8.5/10 . They aren’t perfect (what is?) but Little Journey diapers provide the best balance of performance-to-value out of any brand that we’ve tried (and we’ve tried at least a dozen): Blowouts and leakage are rare, they’ve never broken out our baby’s skin, have cute little designs, are easy to put on and remove, and seem to be comfortable for him. They are missing the color-changing wetness indicator that many brands have, but despite being disappointed by that at first, we’ve learned to adapt to it and only miss it on rare occasions. They have two sizes available: soft packs, which are smaller, and club size boxes, with prices ranging from around $.10 per diaper, up to just $.23, offering incredible value compared to most other brands. If you don’t have time to clip coupons or hunt for deals, these are a great go-to option, provided you have an Aldi store near you. If they can win my wife’s seal of approval, then they will more than likely do the same for you!

Aldi Diapers Review: Are the Little Journey Diapers RIGHT for Your Baby’s Needs?

Mother putting diaper on baby

Are you wondering if Aldi diapers can provide your baby the comfort they need? These diapers are known to be affordable among baby products. But does that mean you’ll be sacrificing quality? In this article, we’ll be reviewing the Aldi’s Little Journey diapers and determine if it’s the right diapers for your baby and your wallet.

Are the Diapers Right for Your Baby’s Needs?

To determine whether these diapers are suitable for your baby, we’ll review how Aldi diapers handle specific scenarios, such as leaks and rashes. Also, we’ll go over other helpful features the diapers may offer, such as material quality and available sizes.

The diapers come with 12-hour leak protection through the absorbent layer, freeing you from worrying if your baby’s diaper will be leaking and bedwetting the mattress. This protection helps them sleep better at night and naps during road trips with its absorbent material. Also, it avoids the trouble of having to clean up mattress covers, car seats, Moses basket , and more with baby wipes.

Although the diapers offer leak protection, parents should still change their babies regularly. Fortunately, Aldi’s diapers also come with a wetness indicator. Parents can use Aldi diapers with confidence, knowing when it’s time to change their baby.

Little Journey Diapers have a hypoallergenic liner that contains Aloe and Vitamin E. These substances will keep your baby’s sensitive skin safe from developing any irritations or diaper rashes.

The covers of the diapers are very smooth and cloth-like, with big pores to make the diaper breathable. Additionally, your baby’s skin will not sweat under the diapers, preventing skin breakouts.

Night Time Use

The 12-hour leak protection and the hypoallergenic lining are great features that help your baby have a comfortable night’s sleep. Your baby may wake up because they’re hungry or they are a witching hour baby . However, you can get some peace of mind that they’re not complaining about their diaper.

Stay Closed

Parents know that different brands don’t create their diapers equally.  And, if a diaper can’t stay closed, new moms and dads regret their purchase and will look to invest their money elsewhere. Fortunately, the Aldi diapers don’t have this problem with fastening. The diapers have dual leg cuffs that prevent any leaks and keep the diapers firm on the baby.

Quality of Materials

These Little Journey Diapers are made of quality materials that keep the diapers comfortable and leakage-free. The material in the diaper’s innermost part remains dry all the time, even after usage.

The material makes the diaper comfortable to the baby because they will not feel any wetness. Furthermore, the fabric in the diaper’s outermost layer is breathable, which ensures there is a flow of air between the diaper and the baby’s skin.

Available Sizes

Like many name brand diapers, the Little Journey Baby Diapers also caters to babies of different weights and different size diapers. The sizes for these diapers are newborn size (up to 10 lbs.), size 1 (10 lbs. to 14 lbs.), size 2 (14 lbs. to 18 lbs.), and size 3 (18 lbs. to 28 lbs.).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do the diapers cost.

The Aldi Little Journey newborn diapers cost about 14 cents per diaper (at the time of research). Other diaper brands’ price per unit ranges between 60 to 80 cents. Therefore, the Aldi diaper is considerably inexpensive comparing to other diapers on the market.

Where Can I Buy Aldi Diapers?

Parents can purchase these diapers only at an Aldi store . Unlike many major store brand diapers, Aldi does not provide the feature to buy their diapers online.

Therefore, parents wanting to add these diapers to their newborn essentials list should keep this in mind. Or, parents can request family or friends that have an Aldi store nearby can ship a pack of diapers to them.

Are the Aldi Diapers Hypoallergenic?

Yes. The diapers have a hypoallergenic lining that contains aloe and Vitamin E. These substances help babies with sensitive skin avoid developing diaper rashes and irritation.

Are diapers from Aldi eco-friendly?

No, they are not. The diapers are not biodegradable nor recyclable. Thus, they are not necessarily environmentally friendly.

How Many Diapers Does a Newborn Normally Use?

A newborn typically uses between eight and twelve diapers per day. The Aldi diaper’s wetness indicator helps parents know when they should change their little one.

How to Know When to Go Up in Size

Every baby is different, and although they may be the same age, babies vary in weight and size. Parents can go a size up when the diapers fail to close up easily and seem too tight for the baby.

How Do the Diapers Compare to the Other Big Diaper Brand?

The Little Journey Diapers offer familiar features that can give parents confidence when making a purse. However, some differences distinguish it from the rest.

Similarities:

  • 12-hour leakage protection, which is helpful for the baby to stay dry at nighttime
  • Dual leg cuffs to act as leakage barriers.
  • Manufactured with soft material
  • It comes in various sizes, such as training pants 3T/4T

Differences:

  • These Aldi diapers fare the only ones that have a hypoallergenic lining of Vitamin E.
  • Although similar to a big brand (i.e., Huggies, Pampers), not all diapers have a wetness indicator, which the Aldi diaper has.
  • Aldi diapers are relatively inexpensive compared to other newborn diaper brands.

Aldi Diapers: Pros and Cons

  • The diapers protect against diaper rashes that can irritate the skin with the help of the hypoallergenic lining.
  • Little Journey diapers are very affordable compared to other diapers.
  • These Aldi diapers are not eco-friendly.
  • Parents can only purchase the Little Journey Diapers at an Aldi store. These diapers are not available to buy online.

Final Thoughts: Are Aldi Diapers Effective?

These Aldi baby diapers are effective and very affordable. If you’re a new mom, we highly recommend parents give them a try and see how it works for their baby. The price, skin protection, size variety, ability to stay closed, and material quality are worthwhile reasons to make it a parent’s choice.

Therefore, if you’re looking for soft diapers that will keep your baby comfortable and relaxed through the night, put a pause on Sam’s club pack diapers. The Aldi Little Journey diapers may be what your baby needs.

If your baby has sensitive skin, the breathable material ensures that the baby’s skin won’t become irritated, avoiding diaper rash breakouts and making it one of the best overnight diapers. Furthermore, although relatively inexpensive, these diapers do not sacrifice quality.

If you like the Little Journey line, give the Little Journey yogurt bites, Little Journey puffs, Little Journey baby wash, and Little Journey wipes a try. So, are the Little Journey diapers suitable for your baby’s needs?

If you haven’t been to Aldi yet, you probably should. The German grocery stores have taken the world by storm in the last few years, with brilliant value fruit, veg, and other groceries, as well as products you wouldn’t expect to find in a budget food store: home furnishings, garden accessories and baby clothes to name a few!

Everything you need to know about Aldi’s Little Journey Best Diapers

And talking of baby products, Aldi handily provides us with their very own range of award-winning baby diapers, named Little Journey . Given that Aldi prides itself on budget products, you might not expect great quality from their diapers, let alone any benefits for little ones with sensitive skin. But what’s the reality?

What are Aldi Diapers made from?

As I expected, it’s pretty tough to get hold of a full ingredients list for Aldi diapers online. But they do have a handy section on their site explaining some of their ingredients, the benefits, and, perhaps most importantly, letting us know which potentially harmful chemicals they’re free from.

  • Perfume and Latex Free
  • Free from Chlorine Bleaching

Aldi says that their Little Journey diapers feature a hypoallergenic liner with vitamin E and aloe and a soft cloth-like cover. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much it when it comes to their description of ingredients, which leads me to assume that a lot of the diaper is made up of plastics, which are potentially petroleum-based. It’s certainly unusual for a brand to use plant-based materials in their diapers and not shout about it from the rooftops… after all, why wouldn’t you?

So Aldi’s diapers are letting us down a bit with their lack of transparency, although this is an issue with many brands, even those who claim to be eco-friendly! On the other hand, Aldi is great at letting us know what isn’t in the diapers, which is just as important.  Aldi states that all of their diapers, baby wipes, and baby wash products are made without parabens, formaldehyde, and, my most-hated ingredient of all, phthalates. Stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before (you definitely have), but phthalates are number one on my arch-nemesis list when it comes to ingredients in diapers. Why? They’re proven to increase the risk of asthma and eczema in little ones and can even cause genital abnormalities in baby boys (1) . Frustratingly, the use of these chemicals isn’t regulated by the FDA, and you can even find them in some children’s toys. So it’s a great reassurance to know that Aldi stays well away!

Are Aldi Diapers eco-friendly?

I think it’s safe to say that Aldi’s diapers haven’t got any eco-credentials to boast. This isn’t surprising with a budget diaper, but it’s a shame that they don’t mention any kind of attempt to reduce their impact on the environment at all . A good comparison is with Amazon Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers , which, despite not being biodegradable, are made in a zero-waste facility; all waste produced is reused or recycled.

If Aldi diapers used any kind of plant-based materials like bamboo or chlorine-free wood pulp, I’m in no doubt that they’d highlight it! Unfortunately, without a full ingredients list, it’s safe to say that they’re no more eco-friendly than any other disposable diaper. Let’s just hope this changes in the future!

How well do Aldi Diapers work?

Despite the lack of transparency when it comes to ingredients used, Aldi diapers do boast quite a few fancy features of their Little Journey diapers. They state that they offer up to 12 hours of leakage protection, have dual leg cuffs to prevent leaking, and even feature a wetness indicator, to show you exactly when your little one needs to be changed.

Aldi’s diapers have a soft, cloth-like, breathable cover and feature a hypoallergenic liner enriched with vitamin E and aloe , so they are at least thinking about babies with sensitive skin and preventing diaper rash. They offer a handy comparison chart with similar brands like Luvs and Huggies, which seemingly shows Aldi diapers offering more bang for your buck when it comes to effectiveness.

We obviously have to take companies’ claims with a pinch of salt. Of course, they think they’re better than their rivals… but they have to let real users have the last say on that one.

Where can I buy Aldi Diapers?

Unsurprisingly, Aldi diapers can be bought in Aldi! Just in case it wasn’t obvious…

Unlike other brands, whose diapers are easily accessible both online and in-store, Aldi diapers can mainly be found in Aldi stores, and not on the company’s website . This certainly rules out customers who don’t have an Aldi near to them.

Having said that, if you do live relatively close to a store, you can use the awesome app Instacart to have your diapers and other groceries delivered straight to your door. Simply download it on your phone or tablet to get started! It’s super handy for busy parents and takes the stress right out of food shopping.

While Aldi diapers aren’t exactly the most convenient option unless you have a branch close to you, Aldi does offer excellent value on all of its products , so if you can get to a store, I definitely suggest checking it out! They have lovely fresh fruit and vegetables, and even offer organic produce at decent prices.

Plus, you always come across some kind of treasure you never knew you needed, which is what a lot of people love about the brand. Sewing kit? Pack of pillowcases? A pair of men’s hiking boots? You’ll probably find these in Aldi, and even if you weren’t shopping for a pack of pillowcases, you’ll end up buying them….

… if you’re anything like me, that is.

How much do they cost?

If there’s one thing I can’t criticize, it’s the cost. At around 14 cents* per diaper on average, it’s safe to say that Aldi Little Journey diapers are just about the cheapest on the market! If budget is a big deal, it’s certainly worth giving them a go, especially considering that some other brands which aren’t necessarily better quality can carry a price tag of up to 60-80 cents per diaper. That’s a massive saving!

* Prices were accurate at the time this article was published but may change over time.

What do the reviews say?

It’s not quite as easy to check the reviews of Aldi’s diapers as it is for those sold on Amazon or elsewhere online. Aldi’s website doesn’t provide a section for users to comment on their diapers, but I’ve luckily managed to find lots of comments on their effectiveness, from real users.

Again, as expected, reviews are pretty mixed when it comes to Aldi’s own brand diapers. Some parents say they hold up well compared to more expensive brands, while others say they prefer similar budget brands. There are a few comments discussing nappy rash with these diapers, so it’s worth being cautious if your little one does have sensitive skin.

Other users say that they’re really absorbent and great value for money and one mom said that she’s used Aldi diapers exclusively for all 3 of her children! A recommendation indeed.

As with all diapers, some brands will work brilliantly for your little one and other ones will fall short; every baby is different! But if you’re on a budget, these bank account-friendly diapers are worth trying!

Frequently Asked Questions About Aldi Diapers

1. are aldi diapers effective.

It’s harder to judge this as there aren’t many reviews available online. The comments I managed to find are pretty mixed, with some users saying they prefer other budget brands like Luvs , Parent’s Choice and Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers , and others saying they’re fantastic value for money.

Aldi certainly makes their diapers sound effective, with a promise of up to 12 hours of dryness, super absorbency, and hypoallergenic materials. With the price being so low, if sticking to a smaller budget is a priority for you, it might be worth giving them a go.

2. Are Aldi diapers hypoallergenic?

The problem with the term ‘hypoallergenic’ is that it isn’t regulated by the FDA , which means that, in theory, any brand could claim that their diapers are good for little ones with sensitive skin. Aldi says that their diapers have hypoallergenic inner layers with vitamin E and aloe, so, in theory, they should be good at preventing diaper rash.

Having said that, I’ve seen comments saying that users’ little ones have still experienced diaper rash, so I guess we can’t say for sure! It’s hoped that this term is soon regulated by the FDA, to offer transparency to parents about which brands are suitable and which aren’t!

3. How much do diapers cost at Aldi?

I don’t think I’ve come across a brand that’s as cheap as Aldi’s Little Journey diapers. At around 14 cents per diaper, you cannot complain about the price. With some diaper brands setting you back anything up to 80 cents per diaper, Little Journey diapers are clearly budget-friendly, although a lot of brands will have to charge more if they use plant-based materials and have many eco-credentials to boast about.

They’re comparable with similar budget brands like Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers , which average around 16 cents per diaper, although, I must say, Mama Bear diapers do have more going for them than Aldi’s equivalent. Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers are phthalate-free, chlorine-free, and reuse or recycle all waste from production!

4. How do you know when to go up a diaper size?

Diapers, of course, should fit snugly to prevent leaks, but offer enough wiggle room for baby to move around freely. If you find that diapers are leaving marks on baby’s skin from being too tight or they’re not able to move comfortably in their diaper, it might be time to go up a size. Of course, if leaks and blowouts then become a recurring problem, it might be time to rethink!

Some brands have well-known ‘issues’ with their sizing, as they’re not all identical, of course. Just because your little one fits snugly in a size 4 in one brand, doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be a size 4 in every other brand of diaper. Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a case of trial and error!

And you’ll know if there’s an error when you’re seeing leaks and explosions every day…

The joys of being a parent!

5. How do Aldi diapers compare with similar brands?

When comparing Aldi’s Little Journey diapers to similar budget brands, they hold up pretty well, but there are more environmentally-friendly choices out there.

little journey diapers review

I’m a big fan of Mama Bear’s Gentle Touch diapers , which is actually Amazon’s own brand. They’re incredibly budget-friendly at around 16 cents per diaper, and with the Amazon family program , they work out even cheaper. Their reviews are pretty good, they’re free from chlorine, which is incredibly damaging to the environment and even boasts eco-credentials . While they’re not biodegradable , they operate a zero-waste policy in terms of their production ; all waste will be reused or recycled! That’s not a bad deal at all for a diaper that costs 16 cents!

little journey diapers review

Parent’s Choice is another budget-friendly brand, this time from Walmart. So, naturally, it’s pretty easy to get your hands on this brand of diaper, both in-store and online. Having said that, we can’t be sure that Parent’s Choice diapers are free from phthalates, dyes, or lotions, which are potentially harmful to babies, and they probably also use chlorine bleaching. Like Aldi, Walmart is pretty hazy when it comes to their ingredients list, so while they’re great for lower budgets, they don’t hold up to Mama Bear’s standards.

Having reviewed many cheaper diapers now, it’s safe to say that Amazon’s Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers are winning the budget diaper race, with their lack of phthalates and eco-credentials, all at an amazing price!

The Good, The Bad, And The Bottom Line

Aldi diapers clearly aren’t the most effective or environmentally friendly, but when it comes to budget diapers, it might be worth giving them a go.

The bottom line

little journey diapers review

While Aldi’s Little Journey diapers certainly trump Walmart’s own brand Parent’s Choice – mainly because Aldi doesn’t use phthalates – I still prefer Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers . Aldi diapers have a lot going for them considering how incredibly cheap they are, including the addition of vitamin E and aloe, a wetness indicator, and leakage protection . But, when you consider that Mama Bear diapers have a zero-waste policy and they’re so easily accessible online, it’s hard for another budget brand to overtake them!

Aldi diapers are certainly not the worst out there (at least they’re phthalate-free!), but I’d still recommend Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers over Little Journey diapers if budget is a big deal. Having said that, I do enjoy my trips to Aldi for the super cheap and great quality fresh produce, and the excitement of finding products I definitely don’t need, but will buy anyway.

It’s probably best not to go if your willpower is as weak as mine…

Little Journey Diapers Pinterest

***UPDATE 05-04-18

Still going strong with the Little Journey brand! Little Cub is now in size 5 with cute little giraffes on them! I don’t know if they are a less popular size of diaper, or what is going on, but one time be got the last box of 5s, and last time we went shopping they were completely out! We had to get Parent’s Choice size 5 diapers , which aren’t much more per diaper, so not a bad alternative and cheap solution.

***UPDATE 11-17-17

We are still using Little Journey diapers for Little Cub. She is 15 months old and has been in size 4 for quite some time now. I did want to mention that the little yellow wetness indicator strip are only in diapers up to size 2. Although these bigger diapers don’t have the strip, they still hold up against a ton of wetness. Sometimes we wake up to find a wet bed, but this only happens every few months or less.

Hey mommies!

Today I am going to tell you about Aldi brand Little Journey diapers.  We decided to use this brand of diaper as a cheaper alternative, and maybe we just got lucky, but these diapers work pretty well with our baby. It was also really cool that Aldi was coming out with their Little Journey line of baby products right around the time my little cub was born, so we got pretty lucky all around!

Do these diapers hold up to leaks?

Let’s discuss!

The Off-Brand Diapers That Work (and Save a TON of Money)

Even though they are off-brand (i.e. an alternative to expensive Pampers, Luvs, or Huggies diapers), they can take a decent amount of wetness without leaking. They even has the yellow indicator strip that turns blue when wet, exactly the same as the name brand diapers do.

I know that diaper material and skin issues can be a big issue for some kids, but we haven’t had these issues. They do not affect my daughter’s skin at all.

These diapers seem to run just a little big in size compared to the Pampers they had us using in the hospital. While I do not see them to be quite as good of a product as name-brand diapers, these are a great and cheap alternative, as name-brand can be so expensive.

As the diaper sizes get bigger, the quantity of diapers per pack gets less, which kind of stinks, but this seems to be the norm with other brands of diapers as well.  It is also true that babies do need less and less diapers as time goes on, so I’m sure this evens out.

My Review of Aldi Little Journey Diapers

As long as your baby does not have too sensitive of skin, these diapers are a go! Even though these aren’t quite as good as name-brand and nighttime protection diapers, these are a good buy as a cheap, generic brand alternative for your baby. This is why I would give them 4.5/5 stars.

Save your money and go with the new diapers on the block. Don’t pay for the advertising of name-brands!

Parents Choice Diapers are also a great alternative that are only a little more expensive than Little Journeys

Along with testing in the Lab, we have a panel of consumer testers rate each diaper for softness in a blind comparison, and as part of Good Housekeeping's Best Parenting Awards , we send samples to real parents who are able to try the diapers with their babies and report back with valuable insight. In recent years, we've tested more than 25 different diapers from popular brands and have collected thousands of data points for analysis.

Keep reading to learn more about how we test diapers and for a helpful shopping guide, but first, here are our top-tested diaper picks.

Huggies Snug & Dry Baby Diapers

With the highest overall score in our tests, Huggies Snug & Dry diapers stood out for their superior absorbency and top-notch construction . When we assessed absorbency, the diapers quickly soaked up fluids from different angles (babies don’t pee in just one position!) The liquid stayed inside the diaper's core and the diaper didn't feel damp at the surface, which results in a more comfortable feel for your baby. Despite being some of the most absorbent diapers we tried, they were some of the lightest in our tests, so they aren't bulky and won't hold your baby back.

None of our test liquid leaked out of the diapers, and thanks to thoughtful details like a fitted elastic waistband and double elastic leg openings, our consumer testers agreed that these diapers were great at containing messes and preventing blowouts.

The diapers are covered in a Mickey Mouse print, which one tester noted was visible under lighter clothing, but other testers weren't concerned about the design. Huggies also offers other styles like its Overnites diapers for sleeping, Little Snugglers for infants and Little Swimmers for a trip to the pool, and they've all been top performers in our evaluations. Plus, Huggies' diapers are less expensive than others we've tested, proving you don't have to spend a fortune to get a high-quality diaper.

Not only were these Little Journey diapers from Aldi the most affordable in our tests, coming in at less than half the cost of other popular styles, but they were also among our top performers. We were blown away by how quickly they soaked up fluids in our absorbency tests and were impressed by how dry the liner felt after being wetted repeatedly.

In a blind comparison test, these diapers earned high scores for softness, and one tester highlighted that her baby seemed comfortable when wearing them. When we evaluated the construction, we appreciated the lightweight design and elements like a wetness indicator so you know when it's time to change your baby. Double elastic leg openings also help to contain messes. Our testers said the diapers fit their babies snuggly around the waist and legs and shared that they experienced no leaks or blowout accidents.

These diapers are only available at Aldi and come in sizes 3 to 6, so they're more limited than other styles we evaluated, but you can opt for the brand's Tiny Bundles version to fit smaller sizes. In addition to its diapers, Aldi also carries high-quality Little Journey baby wipes at an incredible value.

Used by many hospitals for newborn babies, loved by GH analysts and favored by testers, these diapers are one of the most popular options on the market, and for good reason. In our Textiles Lab evaluations, the diapers were lighter than any other style we tested, and they received high scores for construction. We appreciated the helpful design elements like elastic stretch all the way around the waistband, front and back wetness indication and double elastic leg openings.

Ideal for newborns who are spending most of their time snuggling and sleeping, the diapers aced our pooling, strike-through and rewet absorbency tests , meaning the absorbent core is able to soak up tons of liquid in the same spot without leaking or feeling wet. Plus, there's an extra barrier at the back of the diaper to prevent blowouts. When we applied liquid at a 45-degree angle, we noted some runoff, which means a baby who is up and on the move could experience more leakage.

While most diapers start at newborn sizing, Swaddlers start at size 0 for premature babies and extend through size 7. It's important to note that the diapers have a powdery fragrance that some testers found strong, while other testers and analysts weren't bothered by the scent.

Co-founded by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard in 2019, Hello Bello is a diaper brand with celebrity-like status. The diapers live up to the hype and were one of the top-rated diapers during recent evaluations. Our testers appreciate that the diapers are fragrance-free with no harsh smells, and they especially love all of the colorful and fun print and pattern options. To access the majority of the prints including seasonal styles, you'll need to create a bundle of diapers and wipes on the brand's site, which means you're purchasing more at one time, but for a better value.

During our Textiles Lab tests, these diapers earned some of the highest scores for absorbency. When we poured fluid onto the diapers, they were able to quickly soak up and hold onto the fluid at the core, so the diapers still felt dry and comfortable on the surface. They especially stood out in our 45-degree angle tests with barely any liquid runoff, which is an indicator that the diapers won't leak when babies are on the move.

Because the diapers are covered in an all-over print and don't feature a brand name or label, some testers found it difficult to differentiate between the front and back during diaper changes. There's also no wetness indicator, so it's not as clear when the diapers are full and ready to be changed.

Millie Moon describes its Luxury Diapers as "feather soft," and our testers and GH experts agree. In a blind comparison, testers unanimously gave the diapers perfect scores for softness, earning these diapers the highest softness rating in our test . They shared comments like, "Woah! They're so soft and plush!" and, "They're the best combination of soft and smooth."

In our absorbency tests in the Textiles Lab, we were impressed by how much fluid these diapers were able to absorb and how quickly the fluid soaked into the diaper. Even after being filled with fluid and pressed by a weight, the surface of the diapers still felt dry. We also appreciated the front and back wetness indicator, fitted waistband and leak guards at the leg openings.

Because the diapers are so soft and padded, they were some of the heaviest diapers in our recent round of testing and have a bulkier look. Our testers appreciated the fuller coverage design, though, and found the diapers protected well against leaks and blowouts.

Made from bamboo pulp (not viscose) instead of the standard tree pulp, these diapers from Freestyle are the perfect pick for eco-conscious shoppers looking for a more sustainable option that isn't a reusable cloth style. The bamboo diapers performed just as well as other disposables in our Textiles Lab tests, earning high scores for construction, softness and absorbency and receiving rave reviews from our parent testers.

When we poured liquid onto the diapers from different angles to measure absorbency, the diapers were able to absorb the fluid quicker than others we tested, and they held onto the moisture without leaking or feeling wet. Our testers happily reported that they didn't experience leaks or blowouts, either. The diapers feature double elastic leg openings and elastic all the way around the waistband for a secure fit that testers loved. Plus, there's a wetness indicator on the front and back of the diapers so you know when your baby is ready to be changed. One caveat: the all-over print made it difficult for some testers to distinguish between the front and back of the diapers, which they found frustrating during diaper changes.

Know that if you order from Freestyle's website, you will have to create a bundle of six packs of diapers and four packs of wipes, which will be delivered to you monthly in a subscription model for $100, but you're always free to delay or cancel your subscription. If you prefer to shop for individual packs, Freestyle diapers are available at select grocers , including Whole Foods.

If you're looking to give your baby the best comfort and protection without any of the added stuff like fragrances or parabens, consider diapers from The Honest Company. Thousands of online reviewers say their babies wear these diapers with no adverse skin reactions. Our testers agreed, highlighting that the diapers were gentle on their babies' delicate skin without irritation.

In a blind comparison test for softness, these diapers beat out dozens of other diapers from popular brands, and they performed well in Textiles Lab evaluations. When we poured liquid on the diapers at a 45-degree angle, the diapers soaked it up quickly without major runoff, and the absorbent core held onto the liquid even after we applied weight to the surface. The only downside was the absorption rate was a bit slower and caused the liquid to pool when we poured it onto the diaper in a cupped position.

Each box comes with diapers in two adorable prints including baby animals, sweet fruits, pretty florals and simple geometrics. Our testers love the variety of options and appreciate features like the wetness indicator and the front and back barriers to stop blowouts.

How we test diapers

line break

At the Good Housekeeping Institute, we test baby care products of all kinds, including the best baby detergents , baby clothes and baby wipes and diapers. When we evaluate diapers, we review them in the Textiles Lab and share them with parents who can try the diapers out with their own children and provide real-user feedback. In recent years, we've tested more than 25 different styles and have collected thousands of data points for review. Here are some of the characteristics we consider when testing diapers:

a gh analyst inspecting the construction of a diaper

✔️ Construction: We visually assess each diaper, scoring its design features like elastic waistbands, front and back wetness indication, double elastic leg openings and extra absorbency layers. We also weigh the diapers and measure the length of the absorbent cores.

a gh analyst measuring pooling absorbency by releasing liquid onto a diaper in a bowl

✔️ Absorption: Because babies spend so much time in diapers, either lying down or crawling around, it's important that the diapers are able to absorb liquid quickly from different angles and hold onto the liquid without feeling wet. We conduct multiple absorbency tests on each diaper to ensure it will keep your baby dry and comfortable:

  • Pooling: During pooling tests, we clamp diapers in a cupped position in a steel bowl and place the bowl under a funnel that's positioned above the diaper. We fill the funnel with a set amount of liquid and then release the liquid onto the diaper, recording the amount of time it takes for the liquid to fully absorb into the diaper. We then repeat this process on the wet diaper and score our results.

a gh analyst placing a weight on a wet diaper to measure absorbency

  • Strikethrough and rewet: We lay the diapers flat and tape them onto a countertop. Then we place a pouring ring on the diaper, pour a set amount of liquid into it and record the time it takes for the liquid to be fully absorbed. After waiting 10 minutes, we place blotting paper on the wet diaper and lower a 10-pound weight onto it, leaving it to sit for two minutes. We then lift the weight and weigh the blotting paper to determine how much liquid it has absorbed. We repeat the process on the wet diapers and calculate a score for the diapers based on their absorbency time and their ability to hold onto the liquid when subject to pressure.

a gh analyst holding a metal tray at the bottom of a diaper that's mounted at a 45 degree angle during absorbency tests

  • 45-degree angle runoff: The diapers are mounted at the side of a sink at a 45-degree angle. We release a set amount of liquid onto the angled diaper, and any liquid that doesn't soak into the diaper's absorbent core runs off and is collected in a metal tray. We weigh the runoff, let the wet diaper sit for five minutes and then repeat the test. We score each diaper based on the amount of runoff liquid left behind.

a gh analyst is scoring the softness of each diaper

✔️ Softness: We stretch the diapers out on a countertop and tape them securely into place with the inside facing up and all labels or visible branding covered. We then invite GH analysts and testers to touch each diaper and rate it for softness in a blind comparison.

✔️ Consumer testing: We share the diapers with parents who try the diapers at home on their own babies of different ages and sizes. Our consumer testers rate characteristics like how well the diapers fit their children, how easy they are to put on and take off, how well the diapers protect against leaks and how soft the diapers feel. Testers also share if they would recommend the diapers to other parents and explain what they specifically like and dislike about the diapers.

What to look for when shopping for diapers

line break

When you're looking for a new pack of diapers to buy, here are some things to keep in mind:

✔️ Size: Diapers typically come in sizes 1 to 6, with some brands offering newborn or premature options (size 0) and others offering a larger size 7. It's important that you choose the right size diaper for your baby to prevent unnecessary irritation or leaks.

Diaper sizes are determined based on baby weight, not age, so while your baby is 6 months old and wearing a size three, another 6-month-old baby could be wearing a size four. Most diaper brands follow the same weight classes when distinguishing their sizes, but we recommend following each brand's size guide before buying to ensure that you're getting the best fit for your baby.

✔️ Special features: During our evaluations, we've found that diapers with special features can be helpful for containing messes and can even ease the changing process. Look for diapers with elastic on the front and back of the waistband, as well as double elastic leg openings for a secure fit to minimize leaks. Extra panels or "pockets" inside the diaper near the waistband can contain messes or blowouts, as well. We also appreciate wetness indicators on the front and back of the diapers which turn color when your baby's diaper is wet. Some diapers have stickers on the back that you can use once the diaper is soiled to securely seal it closed, prevent messes and minimize unwanted odors.

✔️ Materials: Most disposable diapers are made of wood pulp from trees and polymers that work together to keep your baby comfortable and dry. If you prefer something more sustainable, look for diapers made of bamboo pulp (not viscose) instead of wood pulp. For babies with sensitivities, check to see if your diapers are latex-free and fragrance-free.

We Love ALDI’s Little Journey Diapers

Sharing is caring!

ALDI’s Little Journey Diapers keep your baby clean and dry at a fraction of the cost of other diaper brands. Check out this full review of the entire Little Journeys Line!

Baby with Little Journey Diapers

This is a sponsored post on behalf of ALDI.

Our smallest kiddo seems to be the one that is most most particular. He likes what he likes, and if he doesn’t like something? Game over. It’s no surprise he’s like this. This is how our whole family is. We have our favorites when it comes to almost everything.

If you’re new to 4 Hats and Frugal, you may not know that we are ALDI fans. We shop there at least weekly, and proudly call ourselves an ALDI family.

When we were able to try the new Little Journey Diapers Line at ALDI , I have to admit, I was nervous. What if Baby Frugal didn’t like any of the line? From diapers to baby and toddler snacks, to bath care, there was potential for us to start saving even more on these items. But, only if our toddler boy enjoyed them.

Well, after giving them a go, we now have 5 reasons we love ALDI’s Little Journey Line . Toddler tested, toddler approved.

Little Journey Diapers Cover Lots of Bums

Besides the Little Journey diapers being great quality, they also have them in many sizes. From newborn to size 6, the diaper selection is vast and will cover kiddos of many sizes. Baby Frugal is up to size 4, and has no interest in potty training, so I’m always looking for diaper lines that have the bigger sizes.

He was also the smallest of all my babies, so seeing that that a newborn size is offered makes me jump for joy for other mamas that may have been in the same position I was in when Baby Frugal was born. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn Little Journey diapers won the Parent Tested Parent Approved award. I frequent that website to see what new and classic items are resonating with other parents, so this was cool to find out about.

A Variety of Toddler Snack Selections

Do you have a toddler that obsesses over one snack for months and months, then decides he doesn’t like that snack anymore and wants to try something new? Yeah, me too. One of my favorite things about ALDI is that they always have our staples available at their stores.

Because of that, I was afraid that they wouldn’t offer many toddler snack options in the new Little Journey line. Thankfully, that’s not the case. From cheddar cheese to veggie little munchers, to yogurt bites for kiddos ages 9 months and up, Baby Frugal will have lots of snack options.

young boy with little journey snack

Organic Food Options

I already mentioned snacks, but I have to make sure to share my favorite thing about this line: the organic foods! The organic baby food puree was a sight I loved seeing on the shelves of my local ALDI. We’re trying to incorporate more all natural and organic items into our groceries, but we are on a tight budget.

Being ALDI shoppers has allowed us an affordable way to do so. Plus, the squeezable option of these foods make me so happy. Baby Frugal is very stubborn independent, so the squeezable food purees allow him to eat like a “big boy.”

The Price Is Right

When purchasing the new Little Journey Line , ALDI shoppers will save up to 50%, compared to national brands. As someone who likes to have a deal right off the bat, without having to do parlor tricks or cut coupons, this is great. When I saw the pricing in my local ALDI, I realized that I didn’t have to keep searching for deals on baby items in other stores.

I could now get everything we usually get for Baby Frugal during our weekly ALDI trip.

5 Reasons We Love ALDI's Little Journey Line

One-Stop Shopping

Adding the new Little Journey Line to ALDI stores means that busy parents can now officially call ALDI their one-stop grocery store. Healthy food? Check. Snacks? Check. Award-winning diapers? Double check.

We can purchase premium products at prices up to 50% less than those at traditional grocery stores. Saving time and money; that sounds like music to a busy parent’s ears.

Have you tried the new Little Journey Line at ALDI? What is your favorite product, so far?

Aldi Diapers and So Much More – Aldi Little Journey Baby Products Review

Last Updated: January 22, 2021 By Paul Moyer

I can remember how excited I was when I first discovered Aldi diapers and wipes. I bought a pack of each to give them a try and was instantly hooked.

I have three children and have been through a ridiculous amount of baby products.  My youngest has finally gotten out of diapers and into nighttime training pants, and my middle child has crossed the landmark of no training pants at night.

As you can tell, I know baby products and have been down there with you in the trenches, and that is why when the full line of Aldi Little Journey baby products were released, I had to take note and check the quality and prices.

What’s With Aldi Little Journey Products

aldi baby products review

I have been shopping at Aldi in some capacity for more than 15 years, and they have been carrying diapers size 3-5, baby wash, and wipes for a long time.  What the Little Journey product line does is expand into all forms of typical grocery related baby products.

Now you can get diapers from size 1-6, wipes, formula, infant/toddler snacks, baby wash, and even training pants all in one convenient section of Aldi.  As with almost everything at Aldi, the prices are GREAT!!!

Pricing on Aldi Baby Products

A website dedicated to helping you with your finances HAS to have a section on how much this stuff costs. This is where the fun starts.

Aldi Diapers and Training Pants

As a person who has been obsessed with finding the best prices on diapers for the last eleven-plus years, I can tell you that the prices are the best you will find without using coupons stacked with sale prices.

Even with coupons stacked with sale prices you will find it difficult to beat the Aldi price on diapers.  The standard plastic-wrapped jumbo pack of diapers is $4.39.  The more cost-effective boxes of diapers are $12.09.  Yes, that is ridiculously cheap.

I wouldn’t recommend something I haven’t tried, so we bought a pack of the Little Journey diapers, and they are excellent.  My wife is pleased with them, and we think they compare very favorably with Huggies brand diapers.

Now let me be clear; my children are huge. My two year old was in the 94th percentile for weight and 80th percentile for height, so their chunky legs make it easier to form a seal with the diapers.

Since all my kids are built this way until they hit age three, if you have a less girthy child, please share in the comments your experience so we can all know how these work on different baby body types.

My middle child just got to where she doesn’t need training pants at night, so we are done with that stage but the price is right for Little Journey training pants.  It is only $6.29 for a pack of training pants.

That is better than any other standard price you can find and better than what you get with coupons.  You can beat that price with a coupon/sale/money back kind of deal, but if you want to avoid the hassle, that is a VERY competitive price for training pants.

Aldi Little Journey Formula and Baby Food

As a father, I am fiercely pro-breastfeeding. My stance has little to do with nutrition and mostly to do with making me useless, especially in the middle of the night, in the activity of feeding our children.

My wife mostly breastfed our children, but used formula when needed for both our girls. That stuff is ridiculously expensive, so if you are able to breastfeed, it will save you a ton of money, and it burns about 500 calories a day, helping you get back in those awesome jeans you love.

Formula is probably the biggest win for parents in the Aldi Little Journey products. The 33 oz. generic that competes with Enfamil Gentlease powder is only $14.45.

If you do not know the prices, that is about 33% off what you pay for the Wal-Mart Brand and 67% off what you would pay for the Enfamil brand.  The same goes for the Similac Sensitive formula pricing.

While formula was a great deal, I didn’t find the baby food to be that special on pricing.  You can do just as well with baby food that is on sale and there are almost always coupons. It does make your life simpler to go pick stuff up at a great low price, and no worries of coupons.

aldi little journey baby food products

Aldi Little Journey Toddler Snacks

I decided to make this a separate category because they had a great selection of snacks for your toddlers. The prices are VERY competitive and beat Wal-Mart’s Parent’s Choice brand up and down the aisle.

The yogurt bites and puffs are about 10% off what you get on Wal-Mart brand, and the squeezable fruit comes in just below Wal-Mart generic pricing.

On any of these snack categories, the Little Journey products make Gerber look like they are ripping you off.  Overall you will save money with the new Aldi brand on their toddler snacking options.

Aldi Baby Wipes

I have been a big fan of the Aldi baby wipes for a long time. They don’t have too much scent to them, and they are a strong wipe without being harsh. We use them both for bottom cleanups and for wiping mouths with no complaints.

There are 72 wipes in a pack, and the three-pack bundle totals $4.19. The price puts Aldi right in the mix as one of the least expensive baby wipes but having better quality than the cheapest variety.

Summary Review of Aldi Little Journey Products

I can honestly say that when I saw the baby product section at Aldi, I had not been that excited since the introduction of the Target RedCard or when I first discovered ready to cook mail-order meals .

I am a big Aldi fan and, their prices are the primary reason that I have turned into an Aldiphile.  What makes almost as big of an appeal to me is that they only have one type of each product on the shelves.

So when I pop in to get a pack of diapers, because my little angel had something that upset her stomach, I walk to the baby area, find the one type of diapers in her size, I pick them up, pay for them and walk out.

There is no price comparison and spending brainpower figuring out which brand with which coupon gets the best deal. Aldi ahs only one brand and one price on everything in the store.  It might be the perfect shopping experience for anyone who hates grocery shopping.

Ha I feel the same way about being supportive of breast feeding… Less work for me at night ;). But yes it also saves a bunch of money too.

This is great to know about Aldi, thanks for sharing! We have a two year old and buy most of his diapers on Amazon with the subscribe and save. Sounds like Aldi will be able to easily best that price though so we’ll give them a try. Great news!

I LOVE the diapers!! my daughter went 9 hours (over night) without any leeks! this is the first time we got little journeys diapers and will be using them from now on! she normally leeks with the big name diapers im so happy i finally found something she can go all night in!!

January 19, 2018 at 4:41 pm

I tried the size 1 diapers on my daughter, and compared to the Parent’s Choice brand, they didn’t seem to stretch around her waist as far. She is kind of chunky, but was about average for weight. I thought they seemed a little less elastic, or maybe the tabs just didn’t extend as far. They worked well otherwise. The wipes worked great, and I liked that they were just as strong as the wipes I usually use. I’m not a fan of the super soft, thin ones.

Has anyone tried the Little Journey thermometer?

Thank you for sharing! My husband and I just got finished working on our monthly budget and saw just how much we are spending on wipes, diapers and formula. I breastfed my son up until last month and we are so excited we came across your site! Thank you for doing the work and thank you to all those who commented!!

Those of you who are still using Aldi diapers, could you tell me if these diapers have recently changed (in a bad way)? Some folks on another site said that their “new and improved” diapers are not nearly as good as the originals were…would like to verify this info before buying any myself. Any other info/recommendations regarding diaper brands would be appreciated too.

I currently and using Little Journey size 2 and they have been great. No leaks and no irritation. The 38 pk at my local Aldi are only $3.99! I love them thus far! I honestly and very picky and cringed at the thought of using “cheap generic” stuff on my newborn. I received some for my baby shower and am thankful that I tried them!

Little Journey Diapers Price VS Kirkland VS Pampers

Are aldi diapers a good deal.

When comparing the price per diaper of Little Journey, Kirkland, and Pampers, it is important to note that these are regular prices without sales , and prices may vary depending on location and time.

Pampers, which is a well-known and popular diaper brand, is priced higher than both Little Journey and Kirkland. I based on pricing for Pampers on the Pampers Baby Dry Diapers from Target in the largest box.

Pampers Baby Dry Diapers (the cheapest Pampers at Target) costs about $0.22 to $0.40 per diaper for newborns. In comparison, Little Journey costs about $0.11 to $0.19 per diaper or about half the price of the name brand . Kirkland is a bit cheaper than Pampers at about $0.18 to $0.34 per diaper, depending on the size. Again Aldi’s prices come out ahead pretty significantly .

It is worth noting that Costco did not list a Kirkland newborn size, which can make direct comparison of newborn diapers difficult.

Without any sales Aldi takes the award for cheapest diapers , at least compared to Kirkland from Costco and Pampers from Target. But I should point out that Target (and other retailers) frequently run sales and promotions like get a $15 gift card if you buy 2 packs of Pampers. Costco doesn’t seem to discount their Kirkland Diapers often in my experience but you may still run into a sale. I haven’t seen Aldi diapers on sale and don’t expect to anytime soon.

Aldi Diaper FAQs

Yes! But not all brands. Aldi sells their exclusive brand of Little Journey Diapers (some of the most affordable diapers out there) but does not carry Pampers, Huggies, or any other brands at this time.

Little Journey Diapers are sold exclusively in Aldi stores and are only available online through Instacart if you have a local Aldi store.

Aldi stocks diapers in a range of sizes, including Newborn, 1-2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. They also carry Boys or Girls Little Journey Training pants in 3T/4T and 4T/5T.

Yes, Little Journey Diapers are hypoallergenic and free of harsh chemicals, fragrances, and latex.

Yes, these diapers have a wetness indicator that changes color when it’s time for a diaper change.

Yes, Little Journey Diapers provide day and night protection.

Yes, Little Journey Diapers have a soft, cloth-like cover and enhanced softness that provides maximum comfort for your baby. Of course each baby is different and for some other brands may fit better or be more comfortable.

Little Journey Diapers are designed with all-around breathability and a hypoallergenic liner, which minimizes the risk of rashes or irritation. However, every baby’s skin is different, and some babies may still experience sensitivity to certain materials or ingredients.

Yes, Little Journey Diapers are an affordable option compared to other diaper brands, making them a popular choice for parents looking for quality diapers at a reasonable price.

I have not seen any discounts on diapers at Aldi and I don’t expect to anytime soon. They are still some of the cheapest diapers out there at the regular price.

Aldi's Little Journey Diapers do not have popular cartoons on them, are definitely less pillowy (though nearly as soft where it counts), and are 1/3 of the unit price compared to big brand names like Pampers or Huggies. 7. Little Journey Diapers Review

My Review of Aldi Little Journey Diapers. As long as your baby does not have too sensitive of skin, these diapers are a go!
