Chassis stabilization malfunction?

  • Add to quote

still under 100 miles... a couple of times when I switch off I see "Chassis Stabilization Malfunction, Drive Moderately, See service consultant" Googling reveals that BMWs have had this, with no clear diagnosis, maybe parking on a slope (I've noticed it on quite moderate slope), but potentially more serious problems with dynamic stability control systems. The error goes away next time I drive, so easy to ignore....

lawrothegreat

Not seen this. It doesn't sound terminal (i.e. an engine problem that you shouldn't drive on) but I'd probably give the dealer a call.

Land vehicle Vehicle Car Compact car Family car

I get the same message a few times a week, especially when i park up somewhere message always comes up. Took it to my dealer and showed them but like you they were clueless & said it was nothing to worry about

have you noticed if it's when you park on a slope?

Nope, happens on the flat

Folks Take it from a guy who had a car from new which had a tech failure - take it back and threaten them under the consumer law - they have to know what it is to say it's not a worry - which sounds stupid - so if they don't know what it is it's a worry - honestly regardless of wether the car is running fine or not if their is a genuine concern take it back tell them to find the problem and diagnose it - then fix it Or else you have no consumer rights on your side if time elapses and then you are stuck in the middle of nowhere Trust me

johnan

It will no doubt be fixable by a software upgrade as long as everyone who has the problem reports it and makes an issue of it. A dealer saying "they all do that", or "strange ", "but it is nothing to worry about", without knowing the details is not acceptable.

Pintie

Everything these boys are saying is correct. Take it back until it is fixed!

It *might* be a simple software fix, but it might also be a faulty sensor in that logic circuit. And unless the dealer knows the full ins and outs of the circuit (which I doubt by the sound of it) they have no idea if its a problem to be concerned about or not. Pester them, for sure.

JCinSyd

Thought I'd google it. Apparently it looks pretty common amongst the BMW vehicles too ...

Dealer called me now and wants car back for checks, will give me loaner... It seems to happen when I use handbrake when I come to final stop, as I'm not used to automatic and using 'park'. but will have to check that theory!

grayeul

So, if I read it correctly.... two people who posted here have seen the problem at least once. I've never noticed it or any adverse messages. But it is nice to have the Forum to post comments/questions on. Will be interested to hear how many others see this issue.

Sorry for bringing this thread back, but I just picked up my F56 Cooper (not S) Auto a week ago. So far theres 280mi on the clock and today after work when I hit the start/stop toggle the engine didn't start and I got the "Chassis Stabilization Warning: Drive Moderately" warning. I called Seattle MINI and the service tech just gave me the "keep an eye on it" answer, obviously very disatisfying for a new MINI owner. Was there any consensus on how to rectify this? I would put money on the table that this will be back in short order.

I just bought a 2016 MINI JCW and have had it for 1 1/2 months. My Chasis stabilization: drive moderately. Consult nearest service station warning came on as well. I was told to bring it back to the dealer as it likely needs "reset." or software upgrade. I live 300+ miles from the dealership...hoping it's an easy fix as I am not driving it until we bring it in. It doesn't sound like much of a serious deal though.

I had the Chassis Stabilization message come up intermittently last May 2015. Dealer found the ACSM (Crash Safety Control Module) to be at fault. It was replaced and hadn't had the message again since.

Hi there. Do you recall exactly which part the dealer replaced? Was it the airbag control module in the center console?

More often than not, unless this message is accompanied with an actual physical change in the car's driving, it's usually caused by software. I've had it pop up on mine (02/15 build) once when I first got it and haven't seen it since. Dealers usually know this as a software bug and unless it persists or comes with a change in driving dynamics, it's usually not worth wasting the time. What they'll usually do is just reprogram it first, but this is a time consuming process (3-4+ hours in the programming bay) and software updates can sometimes introduce more issues so they try and avoid them if they can.

Be advised I just had this happen to me, check engine light, ABS light, E Brake light, lost cruise control and shift advisory light, along with chassis stabilization warning. The cause two small (tiny) bolts that hold the rear wheel speed sensors on the rear swing arm. Both snapped at the same time? Unreal! Thank God I was at 49,750 miles and still within the mileage warentty.

AndriusJ

Had the same message several times. Dealer have checked and informed it was an error in level sensor readings. The fix was a software update at the dealer. Never had this message ever since.

WE have just developed this-just driving normally into a car park-stabilisation error, the immediately after , collision control failure-it's going in to the dealer tonight. No reason for it as far as I can see ie it was a normal day, flat ordinary drive, raining hard but that's all-everything else fine and car drives perfectly; we'll see!

Hi i have had same problem and service find out front left ABS sensor malfunction...

Ours was fixed in 24 hours. They plugged it in diagnosed a faulty airbag\traction control\collision warning sensor unit ordered a fitted. Brilliant service from soper mini Lincoln!

Holden Vintage And Classic This is the only kit I know of that's readily available over here. It's 160 quid plus the VAT though. For the brake control you can tap the brake light circuit as Guessworks says, for the clutch control you can fit a second brake light switch assembly to the pedal box over the clutch pedal fairly simply by using an extra switch and bracket.

"Cruise Control Malfunction" message

  • Add to quote

Anyone else have/had this issue? 2014 328d purchased new with no issues at all until now. For a while now - just once a week or so, I would get a Cruise Control Malfunction error on the dash, and they car would disable lane-keep assist and blind spot assist as a result. Within about 15 seconds, it would correct itself and go back to normal. I had assumed that there were bugs on one of the cameras or something. Now, however, the error comes up every minute or so, corrects itself, goes off, then flashes the same error again and again. It's not a camera inclusion, as the car is clean. Another observation - when the error appears, the steering wheel buttons no longer function. It's not just the cruise control buttons, the audio volume will not work either. I'm about 2 hours from the nearest dealer, so I'm turning to you guys first to see if there's a fix... I found one comment out there on this same issue, but it was not very helpful. -- TIA

Can you share what the fix is? I have the same problem now. Wondering if the fix is covered under warranty.

Why I might think twice about buying another Mini...

  • Add to quote
  • No sunglasses holder? Really?
  • Adaptive cruise control is pretty much useless. This concern is even shared by my dealer's maintenance department. Gosh forbid I travel in the direction of the sun...drive in the rain...or, well, play music too loud (joking), the cruise control shouts at me, turns itself off, and does not allow me to re-activate it for several minutes. This is a joke, given my Ford that is two years older than my 2019 Mini Countryman and has adaptive cruise control that is ultra-reliable and flawless. Embarassing.
  • Apple CarPlay implementation SUCKS! We have a lot of screen real estate available, but Mini engineers choose to only allow us to use a little more than half of it for CarPlay. Sorry, Mini, I'm not interested in sharing the screen with a compass or other gimmicky and useless widget. It is 2021, and CarPlay has been around for quite some time now. What were/are you thinking?
  • Music is left playing after the vehicle is turned off. Who thought of this? Do you think I want those who are outside of my vehicle to hear the music I'm listening to whenever I get out of the car? Given the default behavior of the engine shutting off when the vehicle is stopped, havig the music turn off is the only indication that the car is actually turned off--other than some small indication in the tachometer. Maybe I'm missing a setting that allows me to turn this 'feature' off?
  • Mini Bluetooth app does not show messages received on the connected phone. If it did, I would not use Apple CarPlay. That being said, the Mini Spotify app is horrible...
  • The speed limits displayed in the HUD are usually inaccurate and can never be trusted. Yes, I know...we should never trust the indication...but doesn't this defeat the entire purpose? Additionally, my father's older jeep has a feature where the vehicle will alert him if he is traveling X km/hr faster than the speed limit. All we have is a static value that can be set. This is pathetic.
  • Inductive phone charger is way too small. Unless you have a small phone with no case, you can almost forget about using it.
  • Unconcealed storage under the arm rest is not cool. Inevitably we will store things that may be attractive to thieves...why make it so open?
  • After only 17,000 Kms, my tires are half worn. I've never in my life owned a vehicle with such horrid factory tires.

So nothing wrong with the way the car drives then?

TriMini

Have to admit I thought this was a comical attempt at sarcasm. Maybe I'm wrong but I think most Mini drivers buy one because Minis have "a particular set of skills"...most related to driving engagement/enjoyment. I get it, everyone's different, but I couldn't care less about any of the bullets you listed. I hope you find a car that meets your expectations.

NigelStap

Go buy a Tesla. Now that is good old fashioned British sarcasm...

must admit if i were buying any car and before buying it would of ensured i'm buying the car I want rather than think one size fits all lol,, all those things are distractions to the point the way a mini drives

CCroker

Throw all the googas awaynand drive it like a MINI. Googas don't add performance or make the car.

William Avrick

Sorry you are so unhappy; we have 2 Jcw 2021convertables and a new Sidewalk and we have had no problems at all. Perhaps it is time for you to get a new one. Best cars we ever had; I bet a new one will put a smile on your face; life is short why not be happy!

I've read a few posts about similar problems - but, not *exactly* this one. Cruise Control (CC) won't engage since I swapped the clutch master and slave cylinders. The rest of the steering wheel buttons seem to function without an issue. At any rate, it's about a $175 part and it's a pain to replace since you need to remove the air bag, but it can be done at home without any special tools or coding. If you get it done at the dealer expect it to run $500+. r/MINI.
